Ed, is the rumor about FA going the way of US sports in term of introducing luxury tax to team that overspending true at all? Teams that overspending will get luxury tax imposed on them instead of point deduction/ relegations/ fine as a punishment. Or is it just rumor?

mfahmee2

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of such plans - any move from a level playing field would be more than difficult.}

1.) 04 Apr 2024 21:48:55
I would expect that's rubbish not a rumour. It should certainly be.

{Ed001's Note - why? If it is like the NBA it would be interesting as the luxury tax money gets shared between the teams who keep within limits.}

2.) 04 Apr 2024 22:09:01
Financial deterrents are worthless to the likes of Man City. Only the threat of a points reduction will change behaviors.

{Ed001's Note - people are missing the point, the regs are not meant to be deterrents. They are meant to be there to stop clubs getting into financial difficulty by spending beyond their means.}

3.) 04 Apr 2024 23:38:20
Money doesn’t necessarily guarantee success, only have to look at Chelsea rn and even Utd has spent close to a billion over the last few years. But I would worry that City could spend £1bn and just dominate given how well run they are. And the wealth tax even if it was 100% would just see the other clubs given £50m each in exchange no ed001? Doubt the extra £50m each would help other clubs to compete. Could potentially allow other clubs like Newcastle to spend massively so could allow owners who don’t mind investing money without return but I see it becoming a much more negative thing imo. Think it would see even worse inflationary price rises for players if sovereign wealth fund backed clubs are allowed to spend as much as they wish.

4.) 05 Apr 2024 00:01:58
Likes of city + Newcastle would just spend whatever they like and as much as they like and pay whatever tax they have to. Not near strict enough for me.

5.) 05 Apr 2024 00:03:14
I assume clubs in Europe would also have to adhere to eufas rules too, preventing huge over spending?

6.) 05 Apr 2024 05:48:39
The idea that it is a “level playing field” made me laugh. There is a case that has been dragging on for years because it is ‘difficult’, whilst other clubs seem to be treated to the abridged version of the process.

@Digger, that’s a bit harsh on Newcastle

@Ed01, I understand what you are saying about the rules being there to try and ensure clubs’ financial stability and spending prudence but might it not be better to redouble their efforts to try and weed out potential ne’er do wells prior to them being allowed to take control of the clubs?

{Ed001's Note - fully agree, that's what they should be focused on.}

7.) 05 Apr 2024 13:34:24
@Jaynwa. You can make a case that a points deduction is a financial deterrent by another name.

As an example, if Everton are given another points deduction next week then they run the real possibility of playing in the Championship next season and they may find it hard to get back out again. The points deduction could have a financial impact lasting for years.

8.) 05 Apr 2024 13:28:16
I think the plan is to introduce the luxury tax coupled with sporting sanctions to try and avoid the likes of City and Newcastle just paying the tax. There is also a rumoured salary anchor which I thought was quite interesting. Personally, I see the only way to stop it is by having a salary cap, if all clubs across Europe agreed it would instantly stop clubs getting into financial messes such as Barca. People talk about mismanagement and club owners, but players greed is as much to blame.

9.) 05 Apr 2024 14:16:49
I think it would be a terrible idea, spending as much as you want doesn't stop poorly run clubs from going under they'll overpay, pay a fine and then be in financial difficulty quicker. Rich clubs will just spend continuously and even if they're fined £100m (unlikely they'd even be fined this really) and then that's distributed to other clubs that's what £5m per team assuming all of it goes to other clubs? Hardly makes a dent.

10.) 05 Apr 2024 16:12:26
Until we sort out the corrupt people running the game nothing will change. Shoot me down for calling the pgmol, FA etc corrupt don’t care there is nothing else to describe them in my eyes.

{Ed002's Note - so who is paying them off? To do what?

11.) 05 Apr 2024 21:34:05
I’ve always wanted to watch a World Cup in the Emirates.

01 Sep 2023 16:10:15
Ed, is it true that Fulham still not giving the green light for Bayern to sign Palhinha yet and there's only one hour until the German transfer window close? And the Gravenberch deal still not completed because of this?

mfahmee2

{Ed002's Note - Fulham have had a problem brining in Palhinha's replacement and they have until 1800CET to agree the move to Bayern Munich - they can request to send the paperwork later.}

1.) 01 Sep 2023 16:25:45
That half an hour left right? If Fulham don't agree with Palhinha move, will this Gravenberch deal be off?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, half an hour. It should not be an issue.}

2.) 01 Sep 2023 17:05:49
So it is off between Palhinha to Bayern I heard. Would that mean Gravenberch is also off as Bayern can't sign his replacement?

3.) 01 Sep 2023 17:27:30
Do Bayern really need to replace Gravenberchs mins from last season?
He barely kicked a ball.

4.) 01 Sep 2023 17:28:35
If the Gravenberch deal takes a knock because of this, why not just got for Palhinha!

5.) 01 Sep 2023 17:29:48
Gravenberch deal will be off as transfer was contingent on Bayern getting Palhinha in. Could Liverpool turn to Fulham as an alternative.

6.) 01 Sep 2023 17:29:28
Ed002 - sorry to ask. Looks like Grav should be confirmed tonight regardless of Fulham and Bayern not agreeing to let Paulinho go. Are Liverpool working on anyone else? A defender be nice or Salah replacement if we unfortunately agree to a ridiculous high offer.

{Ed002's Note - Not that Ian aware.}

7.) 01 Sep 2023 17:40:53
I'd of been on palhinha 1st. but obviously they won't let him leave as they can't get the player they want now. Too late.

{Ed002's Note - A lesson learned.}

8.) 01 Sep 2023 17:41:29
Whos Ian.

9.) 01 Sep 2023 17:43:03
Gravenberch deal done and not reliant on Paulina.

10.) 01 Sep 2023 17:44:33
Don’t know where everyone is getting it’s off everyone’s who is reporting on it had said the Fulham lads got nothing to do with Graveberch leaving.

11.) 01 Sep 2023 17:50:16
We never learn though ed. I'd be offering Jones and cash for him. Worth a try. He's too good for fulham.

12.) 01 Sep 2023 17:56:18
Liverpool have been interested in Gravenberch since his Ajax days. So now they’ve got him and he’s only recently turned 20.
I wonder will we see a return for Andre in Jan?

13.) 01 Sep 2023 18:54:48
Gravenberch paid for his own plane ticket so would be very cross.

14.) 01 Sep 2023 18:55:37
Welcome to Liverpool Ryan Gravenberch.

15.) 01 Sep 2023 19:54:57
I really wouldve liked us to go for Palhinha . Could see him really making a difference.

16.) 01 Sep 2023 18:04:40
Possibly not now we’ve got Gravenberch. Ed02 what are your thoughts on the red’s transfer window and the players we’ve got.

{Ed002's Note - Gravenberch is a great addition and Dominik Szoboszlai is a very good player, but very, very expensive. Alexis Mac Allister Is a fine player for the price. Wataru Endo is a bit of an oddity for me but is a cheap option for DM. I think CB should have been addressed. The club will do OK.}

17.) 01 Sep 2023 21:22:42
@Burrows Ian aware is a spell check error of Ian Ayre, he's been working behind the scenes this window. Lol.

18.) 01 Sep 2023 21:32:54
Thanks Ed02, I totally agree on CB, I see it as an error not pushing for a LCB.

11 Aug 2023 01:40:57
So Caicedo to Liv is really happening Ed? Will it break the British transfer record?

mfahmee2

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have made an offer above what Chelsea were prepared to pay. They also offer a sell on clause.}

1.) 11 Aug 2023 09:32:15
Sell on clause as in if we sell Caicedo in the future, Brighton will get some of the money?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

10 Aug 2023 11:21:29
Do you know if we have bid for Caicedo Ed?

mfahmee2

{Ed002's Note - I am aware that someone has said that Liverpool have made an offer but at this time all I know is that whilst Liverpool would be interested in the player, I am not aware of any approach to Brighton.}

1.) 10 Aug 2023 12:10:03
Do Liv have the capability to make this kind of signing Ed? In other word, can Liv afford spending close to 100M for a player?

{Ed002's Note - I really do not want to get in to the finances.}

2.) 10 Aug 2023 12:19:00
Fair enough Ed. Do you know if the player have any preferences? Read that he prefer a move to Chelsea.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea as Liverpool has not been an option.}

07 Jun 2023 11:48:18
Ed, do you know what kind of fee are Liv paying for MacAllister? Seen all kind of different reports about the fee. Some saying its 60M, some saying its 45M~50M, Romano saying its 35M. can't believe its 35M honestly.

mfahmee2

{Ed002's Note - The fee will be shown on the TMS after the 14th.}

1.) 07 Jun 2023 14:44:00
Get ready ed2 for the same question to be asked everyday till it’s announced
I feel a lot of RTFP.

2.) 07 Jun 2023 15:11:47
I can't imagine 35M is true. Given Fabrizio's history, it's a strategic lie thrown out there to drive attention to his social media accounts.

3.) 07 Jun 2023 15:45:01
Mate a headline and put that rtp before posting lol.

10 Mar 2024 06:01:11
Ed1, you have any idea whether Konate would be available or not? If not, would you put Quansah or Gomez at CB?

mfahmee2

{Ed001's Note - last I heard he was expected to be fit. If not it would be Quansah for me. I would want the centre backs to stay as a pairing throughout but Robbo and Bradley are unlikely to last 90 min so we need Gomez as cover at full back or even to start at full back.}

1.) 10 Mar 2024 06:39:49
Will you watch the match Ed? Me personally, I don't watch when we play the likes of City or other rivals. Might be a bit superstitious, but I would rather wake up tomorrow and knowing the result than being anxious watching the game itself. If we win, I will watch the replay, and if not I won't be bother about it.

{Ed001's Note - yes I will watch, I don't like to miss them.}

2.) 10 Mar 2024 08:22:55
I think Bradley looked a leggy, so with have to go

Khelleher
Gomez
Van Dyjk
Robertson
McAllister
Endo
Szoboszlai (but could be Elliot)
Salah
Nunez
Diaz.

3.) 10 Mar 2024 08:44:01
Take on Citeh with only 10 players from the off. I like your confidence.

4.) 10 Mar 2024 09:35:22
Missed Konate.

5.) 10 Mar 2024 10:15:48
Nice save, Jones Red. Has this happened in real time that you forgot to add Konate, would you have run onto the pitch and stopped the game? And if you did that, pretty sure Darren England would have said, "Can't stop the game. I can't do it". LOL!

6.) 10 Mar 2024 14:16:19
No Konate in todays match day squad.

08 Mar 2024 09:49:42
Ed1, how much do you know about this Richard Hughes guy? It seems like he is the favourite for the SD position if Edwards do coming back.

mfahmee2

{Ed001's Note - not much sorry. He is highly regarded in his field but that is all I know of him outside of his playing career.}

1.) 08 Mar 2024 10:11:33
What about Edwards coming back Ed but not as SD? Do you think that is a good idea? You're not his biggest fan when he was SD before. There's probably pros and cons if he do come back. Pros probably him knowing the club structure and personnel inside out. Cons probably him already having his own company, so not fully focused on the club I would think.

{Ed001's Note - I don't want him back, we saw last season what his dealings did for us and how much better off we were after he went this summer. Keep him well away.}

2.) 08 Mar 2024 11:54:39
You know anything about this Ed? Seems like its starting to pick up the pace with multiple journalist reporting that he is in talk with FSG to come back to the club. Few months back most journalist were reporting that he was not interested in coming back at all. What kind of position that FSG willing to give to him for him to consider coming back?

3.) 08 Mar 2024 15:35:32
Mfahmee2, I read that he will be part of the setup to employ the new DOF and of course, the new manager. His is not coming back to be the DOF again if any of this is true.

{Ed002's Note - Remarkably I have been explaining that for weeks to you.}

4.) 08 Mar 2024 17:54:23
Unremarkably, some of us wait for the club to announce things officially.

5.) 08 Mar 2024 11:54:39

Few months back most journalist were reporting that he was not interested in coming back at all. What kind of position that FSG willing to give to him for him to consider coming back?

{Ed001's Note - Ed002 has explained it over and over, he is just consulting over the appointment of an SD.}

6.) 08 Mar 2024 18:20:50
Ed02 remarkably, I did not see where you have been explaining this personally since I have never commented on this topic cos I just learned about Edwards having renewed talks with FSG 2 days ago.

That being said, I do appreciate you confirming this cos I take what I read outside of the info you Ed's give us with a tiny grain of salt. Cheers, man.

7.) 08 Mar 2024 23:02:32
Interestingly Ed1, Richard Hughes is the one responsible in signing the likes of Solanke, Ibe and Brad Smith from us when Edwards was our SD. Is that down to him or Eddie Howe as Bournemouth manager at that time?

{Ed001's Note - they were the reason Howe gave up handling recruitment. So the blame has to rest at his feet. He admitted that himself.}

08 Jan 2024 05:16:49
Ed1, I can see why you rate Bradley highly. Kid came in and didn't put foot wrong last night. Didn't look lost last night against a good side. Now hoping he can play from the start. Now that Endo is on Asian Cup and if he can play like he play last night, maybe your idea of him at RB and Trent at DM can be test to see if it works.

mfahmee2

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed, as I think that is the way to move us forward as a team. There are not many ways this team can be improved, but I do think that is one of those few ways.}

1.) 08 Jan 2024 08:57:07
Totally agree at the very least it will give us more options
Up the pool.

2.) 08 Jan 2024 09:00:10
I thought he was really good, Martinelli stopped running at him like he was doing with Trent, I thought Young Clarke did well too. awesome result second half was superb. YNWA.

3.) 08 Jan 2024 09:44:39
Ed01 called it, at the time I asked him about Bradley. He said Bradley is a special player and tho he did well last night, what impressed me most was his ability on the ball. To me, we got a good one here, guys. Hopefully he can stay fit and push on.

4.) 08 Jan 2024 10:34:58
In all the excitement over TAA possibly moving to midfield and Bradley coming in to RB, we're forgetting about a certain Calvin Ramsay who's on loan at Preston North End. What do we do with him? The RB position suddenly looks overloaded, as I don't expect Gomez to be back at CB (with the emergence of Quansah and the CB purchase everyone is clamoring for) .

But if Klopp buys no one during this window, then I guess we're fine. Because he's turned Gomez into a jack-of-all-trades as backup for the 4 defensive positions. And based on last night, we looked good as a back 3 when in possession. A back 3 of Konate, VVD and Gomez looks solid on paper.

21 Dec 2023 20:04:42
I personally think in the UTD match, they were able to go through our midfield easily because Endo was taken off. That left no one that wanted to stay back and do the dirty work that Endo did.

Also, we got no one that is close to the level of Fabinho at his peak now as a DM.

mfahmee2

1.) 21 Dec 2023 20:24:01
I wholeheartedly endorse your last point. Prime Fabinho was Out Outstanding.

2.) 21 Dec 2023 20:48:30
Endo played the full game against Utd ?.

3.) 21 Dec 2023 22:23:44
by taken off, do you mean Klopp said to Endo he could take the rest of the game off but stay on the field so he has the best seat in the house?
point invalidated.
move on.

4.) 22 Dec 2023 03:15:37
@mfah If Endo changed into someone else during the match would that make him an Endomorph?

Sorry, couldn’t help it again.

5.) 22 Dec 2023 10:16:42
No, they got through the midfield so easily because Gomez came on and we moved away from the tried and tested inverted fullback system and reverted to this high, wide fullback rubbish.

Probably Lijnder’s fault if you ask me ;)

10 Dec 2023 06:06:39
Ed1, I honestly didn't realise how much Konate likes to use his hand to grab the opponents until i read your match report against Fulham. is this only started this season?

Another thing Ed1, it also seems that he is a little bit aggresive on trying to win the ball back. Is this the coaches instruction or that is what he used to do? When it is in the opposition half, its ok I think. But if it is in our half, you basically just give the opponent free kick and chance to score a goal.

mfahmee2

{Ed001's Note - it is the way he is and always has been.}

1.) 10 Dec 2023 06:54:54
perhaps he needs to train with holding eggs in his hands so that he can kick this habit and develop better positioning, timing, tackling and use other legal means to defend otherwise he will cost us a few FKs and Pens.

Thinking back, didn't Henchoz used to do this a lot and got away with it?

2.) 10 Dec 2023 08:41:38
Reminds me of the time we had the same issue with Skrtel and his pulling shirts during corners. I was always worried we'd give away a penalty that way. The man never learned and never stopped doing it.

3.) 10 Dec 2023 20:03:50
I do agree that Konate is a bit rash and aggressive, but he is still very young and I expect him to mature and become a top top player.

No poaching agreement as in if Amorim become new manager, Liv will not go after Sporting players? That's a shame because I thought Inacio would be a good addition to Liv team and perhaps Van Dijk long term replacement.

mfahmee2

{Ed002's Note - It is not uncommon and Liverpool have previously upset Sporting.

Goncalo Inacio (CB) Watched by scouts from a number of PL sides, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United, with each declaring an interest. Sporting will not be keen to do business with Liverpool although the club could potentially arrange to pay his full Release Clause in a single payment and force the situation if the player is interested - and that seems a strong possibility. The other sides to declare an interest are Newcastle and PSG, but PSG have a plan over another player but it is looking unlikely he will join - so Inacio might become the focus. Real Madrid offer a wildcard option. Sporting would rather not sell and are looking to a further new contract and an increased release clause. Newcastle have held talks with Sporting in order to be able to speak directly to the player and to understand if there is flexibility in the payment schedule – but there isn't. Arsenal interest would have departed with the signing of Timber although it has returned with the injury to Timber and impending departures. They are actively seeking talks with Sporting. The player has also been offered to Chelsea by his agent when discussing another player, but they have preferred options for a long-term Silva replacement although do have an interest in Inacio's CB partner Diomande. Arsenal have made a tentative offer that has been rejected. The player's agent has also said that Inacio is open to a move to Manchester United and they may push depending on departures.}

Is the CB list that Liv looking at has change with the appointment of Richard Hughes Ed? Or is it still the same as few months ago?

{Ed002's Note - He doesn't start until June so it will remain the Klopp, Fallows, Hunter list.}

Ed, would Liv be willing to pay for his termination clause? Or would Sporting be willing to negotiate his termination clause? I assume negotiation with Sporting is out of the way for Liv.

mfahmee2

{Ed002's Note - If Liverpool wish to sign him they will need to pay the termination clauses of him and his staff in full and in a single payment - they know that - and it will be the case for any manager/coach who is currently employed. Nagelsmann would not require any termination clause to be paid.}

What about Lenny Yoro Ed1? Seems like a lot of top clubs is looking to add him into their squad. Must be highly rated to be look at by many high end clubs.

Curious Ed1, who out there that you think can be a replacement for VVD in the future? I know you are a fan of both Saliba and Gvardiol, but both are never going to happen. Someone that maybe realistic option for Liv?

mfahmee2

{Ed001's Note - with the changes coming to PSR, it might well have to be someone from the academy. Quansah has a good chance of being the long term replacement. Other than that, I don't really see any outstanding youngsters ready to step up. Lots of good ones out there, but none that look to be next level at the moment.}

Great review as usual Ed1. Its concerning that both players and Klopp himself look mentally and physically exhausted. And at the worst possible moment in the season. I do agree that the return of injured players suddenly making us a worse team than when most of our players are out injured. Its baffling really. I got really mad when Trent come in and go straight to the middle when out wide is where we needed him. Its like early season when he keep drifting inside and we struggling to beat teams.

mfahmee2

{Ed001's Note - it is what Trent has been trained and instructed to do, but it makes little sense to me when the way to beat compact defences is to use the width and draw them out or hit the byline and cross from there where they are as likely to knock the ball into the goal as an attacker.}

Ed1, everything look awful last night. Wrong lineup, awful tactics, awful atmosphere from the fans, awful defending and again awful finishing from our forward line. Everything just went wrong yesterday. Probably the worst game under Klopp that I have ever experienced. To be honest, I'm worried with the way we are finishing our season.

mfahmee2

{Ed001's Note - it does seem to be petering out.}

Ed1, why do you think for the past few matches we are struggling to close out games? That's two time against UTD where we should have win comfortably, but instead we lose and draw those two matches. Also our records against the big 6 sides this season are really poor.

mfahmee2

{Ed001's Note - it has always been a problem under Klopp, probably because of the speed we attack at leaves players rushing things.}

Ed1, its interesting if that come true. We can finally see what Klopp can do when he got everything going for him. He can have all the resources to get the players he wants, a squad with all the best young players in the world, no 115 charges team to go against. And compared to when at Liv, he can finally get the referee on his side. Its also interesting to see how he will get along with Perez, both with big personality.

Ed1, its been confirm by Alonso himself that he is staying at Leverkusen. There's nothing the club can do if the preferred option doesn't want to leave his club. My fear is that we will end up with De Zerbi and I read somewhere that Richard Hughes is big fan of him. I personally don't think his personality suits our club to be honest. He speaks too much if something doesn't go his way, be it the players or transfers.

mfahmee2

{Ed001's Note - I know that, why are you telling me this? And if it is De Zerbi then anyone involved in appointing him should be immediately dismissed as clueless.}
