Rumours that we've accepted 25m bids from Brentford and Leverkeusen for SVB, up to player now to work out which he prefers, any truth Ed002?
{Ed002's Note - No currency? SvdB is pushing hard to get out of the club.}
1.) 21 Aug 2024 10:56:40
It looks like it might be 1 thing Hughes has got right. He stuck to his guns when people were saying that Sepp was being priced out of a move and PSV were offering half of what we wanted. Now it looks like 2 clubs are willing to pay above the £20m we were after.
It will be a shame to see him leave but it is hard to see where he would get any playing time in the first team. Good luck to him.
13 Aug 2024 14:00:09
Any legs in these Diaz to Citeh rumours today?
{Ed002's Note - I assume to make space for the arrrival of Mbappe?}
1.) 13 Aug 2024 14:13:39
No Ed he's already gone to Madrid.
2.) 13 Aug 2024 14:29:35
It's a swap between Diaz and Grealish.
3.) 13 Aug 2024 14:34:05
I suspect Ed was also teasing you.
4.) 13 Aug 2024 15:00:17
Given our left sided forward options, I would be in favour of Diaz to City in return for KDB and Rodri.
Anyone agree?
5.) 13 Aug 2024 15:15:36
Really Skezza ??.
07 Aug 2024 16:43:45
Hi Ed002, there was a lot of discussion at the start of the window on the Saudi's trying to get VVD and Salah, have they decided against moving for both or any of them or have you heard there's still interest? I think ypu said recently that the budgets had been agreed among the Saudi teams.
{Ed002's Note - They have agreed budgets and started shopping. They want to also add younger players. Diabetes and Auoar have been picked up already.}
1.) 07 Aug 2024 18:37:16
Wow already picked up diabetes young eh? that's a bummer ed?.
2.) 07 Aug 2024 18:38:47
I feel like getting Diabetes will be a mistake.
3.) 07 Aug 2024 18:39:43
Diabetes may not have been the best signing in my opinion.
4.) 07 Aug 2024 18:40:31
Must be all the rich food.
5.) 07 Aug 2024 18:47:26
I have diabetes type 1, and yes, I regret getting it immensely :D.
{Ed025's Note - im type 2 Westwood, too many Big Mc,s and larger and cakes and fry ups and chips, and sweets.. :)
6.) 07 Aug 2024 18:58:12
I feel they should target Emilliano Insulin. He’d be great alongside Diabetes.
{Ed025's Note - yeah MK, hes the type 2 do well.. :)
7.) 07 Aug 2024 19:09:24
I heard they got a sweet deal for diabetes.
8.) 07 Aug 2024 19:42:54
I’m a type one myself, I have my arm patch on. It’s a game changer.
9.) 07 Aug 2024 20:19:37
Ed2 sitting there just seething that no one let it go “fuken autocorrect”.
10.) 07 Aug 2024 20:52:57
Is that a Freudian slip there Ed025, Big Macs and larger ?.
{Ed025's Note - it was Otty, i had a bit of a brain fart there mate.. :)
11.) 07 Aug 2024 22:07:53
I enjoy all that to Ed025, so much so I basically have my pen as a permanent fixture like a drip ?.
02 Aug 2024 13:56:04
Any truth we are interested in Sportings Gyokeres? I know it's only one season in Portugal but his tally is very impressive with 43 goals and 15 assists in 50 appearances.
{Ed002's Note - Viktor Gyokeres (S) After only joining last summer Sporting have no interest in selling but fear a club could simply pay his €100M buy out clause in full and try to persuade him to move. Sporting fear Chelasea may do that and have avoided the subject during discussions over another player and a separate issue - and whilst Chelsea has a preferred option he is proving difficult to sign. He has attracted scouts representing Manchester United, Spurs and Arsenal with Arsenal seeing him as an option to Toney and can be seen as likely bidders - the issue will be if they are willing to pay the buy out clause in full and if they could nogotiate terms to avoid a single payment. They have been speaking with his agent. Spurs may offer a wildcard option but have a much preferred and more financially viable option they are actively progressing to effectively replace Kane which they failed to do last summer. Another wildcard would be Atletico Madrid. Sporting are looking to a new contract and an increase in his buy-out clause. Seemingly over his injury and just being eased back in to pre-season. I am not aware of any approach to Sporting by Liverpool.}
1.) 02 Aug 2024 14:13:37
Thanks Ed ?.
2.) 02 Aug 2024 19:24:36
Prefer to keep Darwin, which speaks volumes ?.
3.) 02 Aug 2024 19:49:27
Tbh it’s a link that makes no sense as Nunes deserves a chance to be the spearhead of the attack, Slot has seemed to go for a mobile big lad up front and maybe he can get a tune out of Nunez.
4.) 02 Aug 2024 20:14:14
Nunez so far-good against lesser teams, but generally goes missing when it really matters.
Can technique and consistency be entrained, i wonder.
5.) 02 Aug 2024 20:53:19
How about focus on what he has and get the best out of that rather than the things he doesn’t, Vango. He could be a Drogba style menace with his pace and physicality.
6.) 02 Aug 2024 20:40:22
God this is an old one from years ago resurfacing. He’s too slow and not good enough for a top tier premier league team going for the title.
7.) 02 Aug 2024 22:17:56
How did he do at Coventry?
8.) 02 Aug 2024 23:00:23
Nunez has had a year and a half - how long does he get to prove he is worth a spot in the team? If Jota could stay fit our best front three, imo, are Gakpo on the left Jota in the middle (for want of anybody better) and Salah on the right.
9.) 02 Aug 2024 23:29:11
Nunez has a question mark against him for sure but what we can't question is that he's an absolute menace and causes defences lots of problems, can't question his desire and effort, can't question his tracking back if he loses the ball, can't questions the opportunites he gets himslef into, the question is his composure in front of goal, and I do wonder that he tries too hard because of his desire to do well and there fore snatches at stuff, like you say against big teams, in big games, etc If he can just get that composure with the 50% of his chances that he misses (IMO due to trying and wanting too hard which you can't fault) his goals return would be pretty impressive, its not too bad as it is to be fair to him if he can tweak that then I think we'll see a real high scoring goal scorer to go with the rest of him. (same with his off sides just a bit too eager to get ahead of his marker/ defencive line because of his desire) if slot and co can teach hims the ice cool compsure side of a good striker then I think he will be quality.
10.) 02 Aug 2024 23:43:15
“If Jota could stay fit”
He can’t and doesn’t, so he shouldn’t be first choice as you can’t rely on an injury prone player, as Thiago, Ox, Matip, Keita have proven.
11.) 03 Aug 2024 01:46:19
Funnily enough @Victor, that’s why I wrote ‘for want of anyone better’.
IF, dirty big IF, Jota could stay fit he would be my first choice striker from the current squad. However, as I’ve said two or three times on here recently, neither Jota or Nunez, is convincing as a centre forward for a PL and CL winning side.
If I was the coach of Liverpool FC which (unlike some people on here) I realise I’m not, I’d be focussing on a genuine goal scoring centre forward as a priority.
We scored a lot of goals last season but they were shared around a number of players. Whilst that is not a bad thing in itself I think a CF like Rushy, or God or prime Torres or Suarez that frighten the sh#t out of opposition defences is what we want.
Not only would they scores loads of goals themselves but they would make a lot more spaces (and chances) for others to build on last season’s goal tally - imho, that’s what will improve us and give us an even better chance for the PL and CL.
12.) 03 Aug 2024 01:49:54
Nunez playing as a 9 running in behind from central positions or out wide to get on the end of chances will be an absolute pest this season, best believe. If he has space to attack and can play off instinct he is a devastating player. People suggesting we should replace him with gyokeres don’t know what they’re talking about, as an overall player Nunez is much more developed.
13.) 03 Aug 2024 07:53:29
Hunkered is not the answer, I’m not saying he isn’t decent, but he is not what we need at the price.
I would however jump at the chance to take Alvarez from City for the reported £60-70m
That lad is quality.
14.) 03 Aug 2024 08:49:04
I like Nunez and this will be his third season at the club. I really hope this is his breakout season when it comes to goals.
He seems to make the hard chances look easy and the easy ones sometimes comical.
I’m also a big fan of Jota and whilst I agree his injury issues are a real concern his finishing is pretty clinical but the best ability is availability.
Nunez despite being far more available than Jota has 3 more PL goals than him in the last 2 seasons but then Jota again the downside of Jota is he’s played half the league minutes Darwin has in that time.
So it backs up what most people are saying there.
14 Jul 2024 15:29:16
Being reported in the last hour that van der Berg has asked Edwards and Hughes to lower his price tag so he can get a move away from LFC.
1.) 14 Jul 2024 15:52:57
Well that would disappoint Victor for sure. Ed02 said this long back and the man is an absolute legend on transfers. The lad wants out!
2.) 14 Jul 2024 16:30:46
Why would we lower his price that we have set. He is a very good player by all accounts and we have a contract with the player for another 2 years so If no one wants to pay what we are asking then he stays and sees out his contract it’s as simple as that!
3.) 14 Jul 2024 16:50:05
The value of good young players with one season (or less) behind them is set by a ridiculous market, and the money within the game, not by Sepp VBD.
4.) 14 Jul 2024 17:16:34
It’s basically the same story from a few weeks back just resurfacing as there’s nothing much for journos to write other than linking us to dross like Rabiot.
5.) 14 Jul 2024 17:20:00
If he wants to go that much, just let him go. Get in touch with his agent and work something out.
6.) 14 Jul 2024 17:57:30
Yes. Exactly the same story being written all over again.
7.) 14 Jul 2024 18:36:08
The way we currently play is not for every CB. Very few are suitable for defending half a pitch between two. It might change with Slot slightly but i was at a couple of games at anfield and could not believe the sheer volume of space covered between VVD and Konate. i've only seen Sepp on Youtube. Looks a decent prsopect but not sure he fits our style. Looks more of a third defender like Gomez atm and in a back 3 im sure Sepp would definitely find his feet. But if our usual system where TAA wonders around and Robbo is keen to serve his natural instints and go forward then not sure Sepp would thrive. Happy to be proved wrong but in our current system i think the all rounders like VVD Konate and Quansah are better suited i. e. huge, mobile, good in the air, good at duels in open space, ball playing etc. Big step up for Sepp but if he's fine with 4th choice then he's a good backup but doubt he's fine with that. At this moment id put Gomez ahead of Sepp.
8.) 14 Jul 2024 18:44:59
What victor said.
9.) 14 Jul 2024 22:45:43
Being reported that the club has set a price of 22 Million on Van den Berg. For someone who has no experience in the EPL, I thought the price was a bit high. Maybe Van den Berg is expecting an 8 million price like has been placed on Phillips?
In any case VDB has a contract that still has 2 years, and he's being paid the wages he is obligated to receive. So stop talking to the Press and sending agents to complain everywhere. Just buckle down and excel in training, so somebody is impressed enough to pay that 22 Million. No problem at all if you want to go. End of.
10.) 14 Jul 2024 23:55:33
Sepp is a better player than Phillips, Nat went on loan to Bunesliga 2,couldnt get a game for celtic. Meanwhile CB's on loan at Southampton last year are going for 20 mill, its certainly a fair price for Sepp!
11.) 15 Jul 2024 00:25:59
I don't get the furore around this lad, he's obviously not good enough for us, best for all involved that he finds a home somewhere else at his level.
12.) 15 Jul 2024 08:27:58
He qualifies as a homegrown player for us, so if he was to be sold the price would have a premium amount placed upon it.
13.) 15 Jul 2024 10:11:03
He has experience in the Bundesliga tho ArAy and highly thought of too. I mean you don’t get much these days for €22 million. I think it’s reasonable enough if you ask me.
14.) 15 Jul 2024 11:13:39
Irish, I have no real issue with VDB being worth 22 million. But then Phillips is worth more than 8 million consequently, and that Turkish club offered only 4 million. Phillips and Williams saved our neck that year when we had the CB crisis. He has enough EPL experience to be worth more than 8 million, I would say.

Another great display by Grav for NL, long may his dazzling start to the season continue. VVD also excellent but let down by DE Ligt.
1.) 11 Sep 2024 03:45:01
I didn't see any of it mate but to see he got an assist is nice to see. This lad is living the dream at the minute, good for him and long may it continue.
Good to see Trent got an assist as well.
2.) 11 Sep 2024 08:06:31
Englands second goal was all because of a perfectly weighted ball from Trent also. Won’t go down as an assist, it was the assist for the assist though! Trent played well.
3.) 11 Sep 2024 10:03:47
Everyone should watch Garavenberch's assist to Simons, it was a great one!
4.) 11 Sep 2024 10:51:31
Great to see Grav is getting some international recognition from his LFC performances this season.
Not such good news for Elliot though who its just been confirmed could be out until end of Oct / Nov time with a fractured foot.
5.) 11 Sep 2024 19:11:49
Grav is playing with confidence across the board. Long may it continue.
01 Sep 2024 22:39:45
Ed001, will you have time to complete a Utd -LFC match review?
{Ed001's Note - yes mate.}
1.) 01 Sep 2024 23:31:23
Take your time Ed, really looking forward to this one.
2.) 01 Sep 2024 23:34:27
Great, Look forward to it and enjoying that win for as long as possible.
3.) 02 Sep 2024 03:42:00
Hi Ed1- can you cover these points in detail?
1. Szoboszlai free flowing role
2. Andy Rob restrained runs (believe it was tactical)
3. Ali world class performance
4. Grav silky runs from deep, it helps to have another to clean up
5. Konate - clean and Tidy act
6. Are they playing with more freedom?
{Ed001's Note - I will try mate.}
4.) 02 Sep 2024 07:23:40
I would add one touch football inside the box giving the keeper no time to set.
30 Aug 2024 14:09:21
Seems to be one of the quietest summer transfer windows for everyone in quite a while, only Utd seem to be throwing the cash about. Clubs must be really thinking about the FFP or whatever it's called now.
1.) 30 Aug 2024 14:32:08
Yeah was said earlier mate that last season there were 2 x over 100 mill signings and this window Solanke to Spurs is highest fee for 55 mill.
In fairness money in football was spiralling out of control so it’s not a bad thing.
2.) 30 Aug 2024 14:36:26
Ermm what about chelsea!
3.) 30 Aug 2024 14:41:00
Really?
Aston Villa : 7 new players
Brigton: 8 new players
Chelsea: 10 new players
Tottenham: 6 new players
Newcastle: 5 new players
Tottenham: 5 new players
West ham: 8 new players
Wolves: 6 new players
Bournemouth: 7 new players
Brentford: 4 new players
C. Palace: 4 new players
Everton: 5 new players
Fulham: 5 new players
Ipswich: 12 new players!
Leicester: 8 new players
Nottingham: 8 new players
Southampton: 11 new players
Man City: 2 new players (facing 115 charges though)
Arsenal: 2 new players (maybe one more today)
Liverpool: 1 player + 1 for next season
seems to me that everybody has been extremely active in the transfer market apart from last year's top 3!
4.) 30 Aug 2024 14:53:54
Giorgi Marmadashvili, Alvin Ayman, Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa. 1 for now, 3 for the future. It's underwhelming but people thought the same the summer before we won the league in 2020!
5.) 30 Aug 2024 16:18:51
Difference then MK, was that we’d just won the European Cup for the sixth time, we’d finished a point behind city and were in ascendancy, additionally, we had probably the best defensive midfielder around at the time. None of those things are true for us right now, we finished way off the top and completely fell apart in the league, we were battered in the UEFA cup by Atalanta, we’re certainly not in any way in ascendancy and we don’t have a top class defensive midfielder anywhere in the squad. So comparing 2019/ 2020 with this season is false equivalence.
6.) 30 Aug 2024 16:34:14
We didn’t finish on 97points last season or win the CL MK, it’s a bit different from 2020, that comparison is getting very boring very quickly. I think the club have sat on their hands (and wallet) - 1 signing for the team? Can and should be doing better, especially when it’s clear they have identified areas that need strengthening (central midfield and central defence) . Can’t fail to back the manager then expect miracles - no other team with title aspirations does.
7.) 30 Aug 2024 17:09:19
Liverpool were 19 points behind City in the 22/ 23 season. They fell apart in the tail end of last season finishing 8 points off the top. You don’t call that ascendancy?
8.) 30 Aug 2024 17:34:29
You have to remember MK the only way to possibly improve is to sign a bag full of players. Surely you knew that?
Also you should sign a defensive midfielder when you don’t intend to play with one. And obviously you need another centre back when you already have 4 first team centre backs.
We had some bad games at the back end of last season after leading the way for the first 30 games. That means we are finished and only signings will possibly help. A new manager, new ideas, fresh impetus won’t happen because we haven’t signed a DM we won’t use or a 5th choice centre back.
It’s common sense mate.
9.) 30 Aug 2024 17:46:43
I think Hughes using the word opportunistic in his first interview and subsequent follow through of that approach shows what I've suspected all along. A distinct lack of plan for this transfer window. Any results we get this year will have nothing to do with Hughes.
Contracts are the next chance to prove himself.
And being opportunistic is not going to get you to the top of pile. Most likely will lead to a decline as eventually your luck runs out. There needs to be detailed plan how to build the squad to be at the top. So far I'm highly unimpressed with Hughes.
10.) 30 Aug 2024 19:33:00
Opportunistic should not be mentioned when talking about our transfer recruitment. Hughes is out of his depth for me. Opportunistic give me strength.
11.) 30 Aug 2024 20:00:59
Nearly all my favourite posters are on this thread so better to ask here than anywhere else:
With what we have now are we going to have a better or worse season than last year?
Or, in other words, is Slot going to get a better tune out of the team than Klopp did last year?
12.) 30 Aug 2024 20:11:52
Liverpool won the league in 19/ 20 because they signed the most expensive keeper, CB and DM ever in the 18 months before. Not because we signed a few kids in 2019 summer. Our success has been as bought as anyones and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that but we need to do it again.
13.) 30 Aug 2024 22:07:26
Slot will take us to third this season. Personally I feel that the 3 that people believe we need to renew contracts have served their time at LFC and should go at end of the season.
14.) 30 Aug 2024 22:24:36
Good question Delvecs. Chiesa makes the forward options better. There were key areas in my opinion we could have improved. I'm a big believer that we are missing a cm/ DM to challenge the top guns.
Squad is pretty much the same. Slot is being asked to outperform Klopp this season. I think there was room to improve on last season but I can also see areas where it can go wrong this season.
And of course the three expiring contracts is a massive massive issue for the season after this.
This season should be ok. 3rd place for us I think.
The season after this could be the decline unless we sort at least one or two of those contracts. I think Salah is gone which will be a massive hole in itself to fill. If we have to do Van Dijk and Arnold at the same time with a DOF who waits for opportunities and bargains, then we are well and truly . No there's no better way to put it, ****ed!
15.) 30 Aug 2024 23:39:07
I like the guy but slot won’t outperform jurgen with this team. Everyone seems confident we will finish third we only 2 games in let’s see how he handles the media when we lose a few on the bounce.
28 Aug 2024 12:42:29
Will Kelleher also be able to leave on a free next summer if not sold now? Is the plan to have him as our second choice keeper this season and let him run down his contract or has he a longer contract than what I've read?
He'd hardly sign another contract knowing we have a new keeper signed for next season.
1.) 28 Aug 2024 13:12:42
Fairly certain we would have signed him to a fairly long contract over the last year or 2, given his progression. Haven't heard anywhere that he'll be out of contract this season.
2.) 28 Aug 2024 13:13:46
His deal runs to 2026.
3.) 28 Aug 2024 13:21:41
If owners are happy for players to leave on frees than we must be in a great financial place and it’s their call.
Still think from a playing perspective it would be a huge mistake to leave Salah and Vvd leave on frees mind.
When Bobby, Matip, Thiago (frees) and Hendo and Fab left it was pretty evident their playing days were coming to an end as LFC starters but Mo and Vvd are still currently first names on the team sheet.
If club are happy to lose 50-100mill on selling fees this next 12 months then surely losing 20-40 mill in new contacts for the pair instead would be less of a loss.
Hopefully both sign new contracts though and are here for another couple of seasons because both don’t look like age is catching up with them.
Yes we can’t force them to sign and if that’s the case then it is what it is but the last dialogue from Vvd was he hadn’t been offered a contract so we only have his word and club haven’t replied any different.
Looking at both of their stats and not their ages both are still producing phenomenal numbers.
4.) 28 Aug 2024 13:23:37
McG., transfermarkt has it as contract expiring in June 2026. If you go by that then he has two more seasons to go.
5.) 28 Aug 2024 15:45:46
FISK and ArAy, ok lads, I had read it was summer 2025 when his contract expired so good to know he'll not be leaving on a free next summer, cheers lads ?.
6.) 29 Aug 2024 00:21:21
@Mcg - apologies, it was me who thought / wrote CK’s contract was up in 2025. My mistake.

27 Aug 2024 20:47:01
Kubo seems to be our Bellingham for 2025.
26 Aug 2024 00:54:04
Sancho to Chelski and Sterling to Utd maybe.
13 Aug 2024 15:15:36
Really Skezza ??.
01 Sep 2024 23:34:27
Great, Look forward to it and enjoying that win for as long as possible.
01 Sep 2024 21:35:57
Really nasty post that Becker, so aggressive, maybe you need to calm down and remember everyone is entitled to their opinion even if it doesn't agree with yours. But wanting to shove fellow LFC fans words down their throat truly is one of worst things I've read on here in a long time.
01 Sep 2024 19:02:57
Well at the moment it is his last season as he has no new contract.
01 Sep 2024 15:22:10
You did all bite.
31 Aug 2024 04:30:24
Slot never coached in the Premier League, maybe he'll change his tactics accordingly.
{Ed001's Note - he may well do, but he hasn't yet, so buying a player just in case he changes tactics at some unspecified point in the future would be a bit stupid.}
