Ed02 should we expect any other incomings or is Chiesa it?

Hi Ed02,

Just wondered as a few weeks have gone by if you’ve changed your view on who you think Liverpool may try to acquire. I know Ederson was one of your tips. We know there’s interest in Gordon also.

Thanks
Hessle Red.

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed002's Note - Atalanta have told another interested side that they do not wish to sell Ederson. I have explained about interest repeatedly.}

Hi Ed02

Thanks as ever for all the updates, always appreciated by me. May I ask who your top three picks for realistic signings for Liverpool would be this summer.

Thanks
Hessle Red.

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed002's Note - An interesting question. Perhaps:
Alex McCarthy (G) Out of contract at Southampton in the summer and accepts he will not be first choice any longer. Bournemouth, Newcastle and Liverpool have both considered him, with Liverpool having prior interest and likely needing two goalkeepers this summer - unless they opt to promote Vitezslav Jaros, then they only need a third choice.

Willian Pacho (CB) Eintracht Frankfurt have told Real Madrid the left footed CB is not for sale. Liverpool and Arsenal have sent scouts and I suspect Liverpool will look to an offer.

Teun Koopmeiners (DM/CM) Atalanta are reluctant to sell but his agent wants the player to be playing regularly in the Champions League with Newcastle, Juventus and Napoli having declared interest. Interest of Milan shifted to Tijjani Reijnders so they can be discounted. Liverpool offer a good option for the player but will be reluctant to meet the asking price - but they are very keen. Approaches were been made to Arsenal, Manchester United, Spurs and Chelsea although none have spoken with Atalanta and all have other targets for now but cannot be discounted. Brighton and Aston Villa interest has gone. Juventus has a creative solution and will push for a summer move knowing that the player wants Juventus move. Marseille have walked away due to the quoted cost although a change of ownership could see a huge shift for them. Atalanta are seeking €60M if pressed to sell and feeling is Liverpool or Juventus will win out.}

Thanks Ed002, I'd be pretty happy with them, as long as there was also a Salah/ Diaz replacement should they leave! Sounds like the club are looking in the right places which is good news even if we don't pull off the signing of these exact players.

McCarthy would be a decent enough replacement for Adrian as 3rd choice.

Koopmeiners would be a superb signing. One of the best midfielders in Europe in my opinion. Can play CB, DM, CM and AM. Such a versatile player with virtually no glaring weaknesses. Reminds me of Rice and Rodri.

Pacho mainly plays left side of a back 3 but Slot's Feyenoord team does become a back 3 when one of the full backs inverts into midfield. Definitely a good player and maybe could see him lining up as a left back but then in practice effectively being in a back 3 with Virgil and Quansah.

{Ed002's Note - We been through the options for Salah. If Luiz were to depart then perhaps:

Mohamed Amoura (S/LW/AM) Versatile Algerian who Lille see as a Jonathan David replacement. Liverpool have sent scouts and if Luis Diaz departs he will be seen as a good option to replace him. Marseille and Wolfsburg have also spoken with Union Saint Gilloise. Scouts have been sent by West Ham and Newcastle. A wildcard might be Brighton.
Omar Marmoush (S/W) Eintracht Frankfurt have no intention of selling the player who only joined last summer. His agent says there is interest from Newcastle, Spurs and possibly still Brentford. Apparently noted by Liverpool scouts when watching another player.
Maximilian Beier (S/F/W) Opted for a contract extension at Hoffenheim over a move to Brentford after a loan at Hannover. Everton, Liverpool and Luton have sent scouts to watch the player. May be available in the summer.}

2.) 16 May 2024 12:51:12
McCarthy makes sense as a 3rd choice and doesn’t waste a non HG space. can't see us getting any more joy out of Frankfurt than Madrid did. Seems like a waste of time asking. Not massively convinced Koopmeiners is the answer as I think we need a specialist at number 6 not a versatile midfielder as that feels like the compromise of playing Henderson there. The only caveat is that he’s played there under Slot, and managed similar defensive stats as Rodri and Rice, albeit in a weaker league. So I’ll keep an open mind.,

3.) 16 May 2024 13:14:04
Ed002 in relation to Koopmeiners do you think he is too similar to what we already have as he has always struck me as a very similar player to Mac Allister? Feels like the need is still to replace Fabinho with that sort of midfielder as the other with the exception of Endo, all feel a lot more capable in the more forward areas.

{Ed002's Note - TK is a very versatile MF player and would be an excellent addition.}

4.) 16 May 2024 13:58:21
Legend Ed002 ??.

5.) 16 May 2024 14:19:47
My worry with McCarthy is he's 2nd choice to Bazunu who, although he still has a high ceiling and is only 22, has regressed since bursting onto the scene in his teens and is an inferior keeper to Kelleher imo.

{Ed002's Note - McCarthy would be replacing Adrian not CK.}

6.) 16 May 2024 14:24:28
Open mind? You’re getting soft VV! ?.

7.) 16 May 2024 15:34:39
I like Pacho, and i like having left footed players on the left side of the pitch. Ed's do you have any concerns over Pacho's duel success rate? Saw Sam Maguire mention this a few backs, and checking bundelsiga stats he's at 14th in the league for duals won. Our very own Sepp is 4th. With how often we're beaten with balls over the top with our high line, would this not be a red flag?

{Ed001's Note - stats like that are bollox, they mean nothing. Jose Enrique had the best stats in the Premier League on duel successes but that was because he was always in the wrong place. It is a waste of time looking at one individual stat and trying to draw a conclusion from it.}

8.) 16 May 2024 15:59:09
Does Pacho have any relationship to what the club think of Konate? The mood in the media has really grown sour on Konate, but he really only had a tough month. Seems rash to jump to the conclusion that he isn't good enough. He was stellar previously.

{Ed002's Note - No, it is unrelated.}

9.) 16 May 2024 16:08:05
Ed02, many thanks and certainly interesting choices for sure. Let’s see what happens!

10.) 16 May 2024 19:08:08
Thanks, Ed02! Appreciate the info as always.

11.) 16 May 2024 21:27:45
Only getting around to reading this now. Thanks so much for the info Ed002. Class as always.

04 Apr 2024 12:27:58
Hi Ed02,

Thanks for your posts recently on the potential new manager topic. Are you able to briefly summarise the key targets Liverpool are looking at for the summer. Just the key positions I imagine we are looking at - CB, LB, RW and possibly DM?

Thanks
Hessle Red.

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed002's Note - Right now it is difficult as the targets have been identified by Hunter, Klopp and Fallows and that could make it tough for any new manager/coach joining. Amorim plays a different formation to Klopp so he would have his own ideas about CBs as an example. We now that Nagelsmann has expressed concern that the transfer approach at Liverpool may not suit him - so he would perhaps need some convincing.

Need to sort out the GK situation, add a CB to replace Matip (do you go for an up and coming Dean Huijsen or pay a huge fee for Inacio?), sort out a contract for Alexander Arnold and look to replace Salah who is still likely to leave. They need to make up their minds about adding either an out and out DM (like Andre Trindade) or a more versatile CM/DM player (like Thuram or Morten Frendrup).}

1.) 04 Apr 2024 13:36:24
He ED02,

Is there any situation Salah stays for a further season? Or has that boat sailed?

Is Amorim in your view (won’t hold you to it) the most likely successor to Klopp?

Also why has TAAs contract been allowed to run down so much? I get Steve McManaman and Micky Owen vibes….

{Ed002's Note - Salah could potentially run his contract down but I think that unlikely.

Ruben Amorim seems the most likely but there is interest in him from elsewhere.

I don't know why a contract offer is yet to be made.}

2.) 04 Apr 2024 14:19:16
This is probably putting two and two together, but with Bradley excelling and showing he has what it takes to be a top class right back, maybe they’re considering cashing in and using the money for the incoming manager to spend.

3.) 04 Apr 2024 14:38:36
Thanks Ed2, appreciate all the info as always.

I think Amorim would be my preferred choice but let’s see what happens in the next couple of months.

Hessle Red.

4.) 04 Apr 2024 14:46:40
Hi Ed002, I've seen you mention a few times that we're looking for either a CDM or a versatile CDM/ CM, and I just wanted to see if you personally think we actually need an extra player there? Because I feel like our midfield is pretty stacked at the moment.

In CDM we have Endo and a returning Baj to compete for a place, with Macca already proving he can provide very strong cover if needed. Then James McConnell has looked a good prospect whenever he's played and I don't think Tyler Morton would worry me if he played a few games there, even if I imagine he may well want more playing time and leave on loan/ permanently.

Then for CM we have Macca, Szoboszlai, Jones, Gravenberch, Elliott and Clark. This is all before we even start the debate about potentially moving Trent into midfield, whether that be as a CDM/ CM (it's CM for me! ) .

So that's 8 bona fide 1st team players and 3 young players on the cusp of being 1st team to cover what is likely 3 positions. I know there was a bit of overlap between the two positions and maybe the new manager will see some of these players differently (Szobo for example as more of an attacker), but I don't really see the need to add anyone unless one or two of the 1st team players get sold (which I can't see happening) and/ or a lot of the young ones go out on loan. So I'd be interested to hear your thoughts if that's okay!

{Ed002's Note - I think it is a valid point but the club has continued to look to add in that position and have been continuing to scout players in both positions.}

5.) 04 Apr 2024 15:18:17
There is no world where I see us looking to "Cash in" on Trent. The only way I can see this is if he refuses a new contract. Trent must be kept if at all possible.

6.) 04 Apr 2024 15:56:20
Or maybe trent and the club have just decided to wait till a very important season is over to sort it out.

7.) 04 Apr 2024 15:59:31
I’ve said it before I think szoboslai is more suited to replace salah than most . And if Amorim comes in and goes 343 he would need to be wide right as Bradley/ trent are tailor made for the right wing back roles
A double pivot of bajetic and macallister does on paper at least have all the earmarks of such a good pairing .

I’m so relaxed about the next man in the door and who we buy because I genuinely believe we have a really close to complete squad that could be together as a group for another 3/ 4 years without any serious surgery like we had to do on the midfield this summer hopefully that will never happen again and all areas are refreshed as and when needed and not left til they fall off a cliff like last season .

8.) 04 Apr 2024 16:09:11
Timmer, great points. I think you're bang on with what you're saying and how you are looking at the squad.

I think focus in the transfer market will be on the backline and possibly GK. GK is dependent on Kelleher, as I really hope he stays on as the heir to Alisson but I understand if he's getting impatient and wants to be the main man somewhere next year. He's an outstanding keeper and should be leading a CL caliber squad somewhere.

The defense is dependent on the manager. There's definitely some urgency to getting the manager sorted ASAP as that uncertainty is holding up our ability to do smart business in the transfer market. Should that search get delayed, we'll be in a tough spot. It's hard to sell an uncertain situation to a new player who should be protective of their career. I do think there's a need for a left sided CB who can also play in a back 3. I also think there's a need for a guy who can play as a left sided wing back.

Midfield looks really good. The attack also looks good. I think any business is dependent on a surprise departure. I'm not convinced Salah is going to leave. Every year we hear of rumblings, but he's still playing at such a high level, not sure I see him wanting to walk away from the CL yet. I don't think the timing is right for Saudi. Perhaps summer of 2025, but honestly, who knows with him.

9.) 04 Apr 2024 16:12:30
Dhfc, agree on Szoboszlai. He flourishes further forward for Hungary.

Also worth noting that Amorim normally has one of the back 3 step out into the midfield at times, and Bajcetic originally came to us as a young CB I believe, so he could even be tailor made for that particular role? I think ever since Bradley's rise, we've been destined to eventually see a Trent/ Macca midfield at some point, so Bajcetic might need to find another niche if he wants to be a regular starter as in Trent and Macca you have 2 absolutely elite level distributors of the ball.

Our squad is so rich with young talent that it's extremely malleable for the next manager to put his stamp on it without having to go crazy in the market.

10.) 04 Apr 2024 16:55:03
@mk
The club is in great shape going forward .
Been watching more and more youth football and I really don’t think it will be long until Jayden danns joins the conversations as he is a real stand out in his age group

He reminds me of Harry Kane the way he plays . Just brilliant holding the ball up and with his back to goal but deadly in front of goal .

11.) 04 Apr 2024 16:59:33
Hard to guess when we don't know who'll be the manager, what formation they'll play and who'll move on. Who would you bring in personally Ed? let's say one defender one midfielder one forward.

{Ed002's Note - Simply for me, Dean Huijsen offers up a reasonably priced option with significant potential, but free agent Tosin Adarabioyo offersan interesting option - but mauny clubs are looking to hom. Archie Gray has huge potential but is perhapes being over hyped, maybe Liverpool should look to Ezequiel Fernandez but there is interest from elsewhere. As a forward goes we have to look at Salah moving on and Pedro Neto will be on the minds of many. Donyell Malen may be an option but for me perhaps a fight for Marcus Edwards.

12.) 05 Apr 2024 08:29:30
Ed002 I must say, I do not like the sound of any of those suggestions.

13.) 05 Apr 2024 12:25:08
I wonder why Mo is ready to leave, does he feel his powers are waning and that its time to make the most of the Saudi cash, and to preserve his knees?
Perhaps he doesn't want to be rotated.

At least Edwards would work a sizeable fee for him with contract remaining.

14.) 05 Apr 2024 13:00:52
Florian Wirtz for me all day.

15.) 05 Apr 2024 17:17:23
@centrepoint, I think it's more a case of Mo being on the downslope and making sure LFC maximize his value to be able to reinforced the team for the long term. It's all business - by low, sell high and all that.

31 Mar 2024 08:52:24
Hi Ed02

Do you believe the new Liverpool manager will be one of Amorim or Nagelsmann?

Are there any other names we should be aware of that the club are looking at in your view?

Thank you
Hessle Red.

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed002's Note - I would not entirely rule out de Zerbi but there is serious interest from elsewhere. Amorim may take exception the way transfers are being planned at Liverpool.}

1.) 31 Mar 2024 10:45:29
Hello ed2 hope u well. your info spot on as usual. are u at liberty to explain about the way transfers are being planned at lfc?

{Ed002's Note - The problem is that Klopp continues to be involved in the planning.}

2.) 31 Mar 2024 10:45:38
Hi Ed002. Exception to the way transfers are being planned meaning the recruitment process and how much power he would have with new players coming in or that they’re already being planned and he may know of who they want to come in and he wouldn’t necessarily want those players already identified?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, any new coach will look at the players at the club and look to make some changes to suit their needs - Amorim, as an example, plays a different formation.}

3.) 31 Mar 2024 11:27:39
Happy Easter ed002! I hope the Easter Bunny was kind to you this morning ?
In what respect would Amorim take exception to the transfers?
Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed002's Note - Any new coach will want to be involved in the decision process surrounding players departing and players being added. Amorim plays with three CBs and would adopt that approach at Liverpool and that would require a change. Liverpool are still progressing with the Klopp, Fallows and Hunter targets that have been identified. This is always a consideration when taking on a new manager or head coach.}

4.) 31 Mar 2024 11:46:32
Following on that topic ed2 as regards new contracts for players, and by that im thinking of trent, salah and vvd. big players who entering last year of contract, is lfc waiting on appointing new manager before starting talks with the players? Bascially to see if new manager wants them or not. Or are they proceeding regardless of new manager.

{Ed002's Note - They are not waiting on the appointment of a new manager before dealing with contracts. I still expect Salah to be replaced and depart in the summer. Alexander Arnold will likely stay regardless of interest in him. van Dijk will be 33 by the start of next season and there will need to be plans put in place to eventually replace him.

5.) 31 Mar 2024 12:00:02
Thanks Ed002.

6.) 31 Mar 2024 12:33:25
Thanks as always ed002.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

7.) 31 Mar 2024 13:52:26
Cheers ed2.

Great result - confidence must by sky high at the moment. I am worried about fatigue and injuries setting in with so many games. Is really like to see us totally focus now on PL and CL.

HessleRedTom1980

1.) 01 Dec 2024 21:13:56
I think the thing is Hessle that all teams have to play a lot of games so all teams will get injuries and burnout at different stages of the season.

I’m confident though that we could get results with whoever is in the team.

We are all bricking it in case VVD or Mo or Gravenberch get injured but in reality if it came down to Gomez and Quasah at CB we’d still get results. If we had to play Diaz, Gakpo and Nunez up top we’d still get results. If we had to play Endo or MacAllister as a 6 we’d still get results.

We wouldn’t be as good and we might drop the odd few points here and there but we’d still be too good for most other teams in the league.

We have a commanding lead we should enjoy it. A lot has to go very wrong with us and very right with others for us to be caught. It’s nowhere near over yet and there will be many twists and turns but I’m confident we can see this through.

13 Jul 2024 18:56:32
Can I ask a question for us all. As we got CL qualification for this season, why aren’t we thinking big in terms of players acquisition. Some names mentioned are rather underwhelming. Hopefully there will be some positive surprises to come.

HessleRedTom1980

1.) 13 Jul 2024 19:34:40
Absolutely with you. I have said it in the past that the players we are linked for the CB position are mostly tier 2 Players. The scary part is we not even in for any DM players. At the best some general interest and nothing concrete towards a bid.
Man I miss those days when we signed VVD, Alli and Fabinho. 3 world class established players.

2.) 13 Jul 2024 21:03:00
So much obsession over transfers. Do people need reminding that Bradley was brought into our academy, Quansah with us from a young age, Trent, Jones, Elliot etc. Do people not remember getting Mane, Robbo etc from lower teams.

Thinking big about players, what does that mean? I'd rather we scouted top players, regardless of how 'big' they're perceived.

I think we all need to be calm and just wait and see. Let Slot understand what he needs first. We'll be competitive. I have no doubt.

3.) 13 Jul 2024 21:08:05
1. Slot hasn't had chance to try and utilise players in his system yet. Players you might call duds now might be world beaters in a different system.

2. One of the worst times to buy players is after a major national tournament as it inflates prices.

3. Finally the owners might want to see where slot manages to finish before committing funds to the job, especially given how much we spent last year. We are not a club who can endlessly spend.

4.) 13 Jul 2024 21:15:41
Here we go…. Didn’t take long ?.

5.) 13 Jul 2024 21:16:19
Funded by selling a prize asset at the time. Sacrificing a star to improve the team. The owners have a model that they work too and that won’t change. So who you suggest we sell to fund these buys?

6.) 13 Jul 2024 22:42:15
Diaz, Tsimikas, Carvalho, Jones could all be sold IMO. Palace the way for some younger player coming through and a couple of good signings. Only need 2/ 3 players of the right fit to the new system and we will compete.

7.) 13 Jul 2024 22:45:05
Add Kelleher to that. All would bring in decent fees, then a little dip into the war chest.

8.) 13 Jul 2024 23:16:32
VVD was signed from Southampton.
Becker and Salah from Roma
Firmino from hoffenheim.

9.) 13 Jul 2024 23:42:33
Om pretty sure the club only want to look at useless players and if we don’t hear otherwise in the media then that is true.

10.) 14 Jul 2024 00:05:11
I wouldn't give this post the time of day. Fans obsessed with transfers like it's a computer game. Real fans love a good coach. A coach who wants to coach what's he got first before making any decisions.
I love a signing but preferably when it's the Liverpool way. Quietly, so no one knows
I don't care for a big name, just someone with a heart and a brain but right now let's see how much he can improve and give confidnece to players.

11.) 14 Jul 2024 04:00:13
Yeah. Perhaps one angle that we can look at, that it is a positive thing for the coach to properly assessed all the current players first, instead of buying for the sake of buying.

Honestly, I'm just like most of other fans; I always look forward to transfer windows, hoping for new players in. I easily get excited of new signings too. I remembered back then how excited I was when we signed Downing and Borini, and even Yesil.

12.) 14 Jul 2024 07:58:30
Here we go… the site veterans “you’re not a real fan” “it’s only July” and “we shouldn’t give these posts the time of day”. We’ve won one title in over thirty years, it’s a valid critique and unless we make some “quality” signings that actually improve the first 11 we’ll struggle to make the top four.

13.) 14 Jul 2024 08:09:25
We have a big squad of players if you include those returning from loan and those youth players who stepped up last year!

{Ed025's Note - but if you stand still KC you will be left behind mate, im not talking about loads of massive signings, i talking about one or two players who will freshen things up and possibly change the dynamic, i think it gives everyone a lift..

14.) 14 Jul 2024 08:30:06
I love transfer season and I love an old fashioned rumour, but at the end of the day everyone can speculate as much as they want but only those within the club know who, when or even if we are going to buy players.

The press are going speculate who they think we are interested in, but if they are not much of an improvement or the fee or wages are too much it's not going to happen.

I hope, as it looks like, Slot is looking at the players within the club first before forking out money and whatever system this is for as he admitted his system is fluid.

{Ed025's Note - i agree that buying just for the sake of it is a mistake SA but you do need to upgrade some players i think, its alright saying let Slot assess what he has first but it can get to the point where all the top choices have gone by then, now i know the Euro,s and Copa America have not helped things and maybe things are happening behind the scenes, but i think it would give everyone a lift if there was a declaration by the club that things are happening mate, just my view of course..

15.) 14 Jul 2024 08:36:52
@Farmer, Klopp was a great coach but he won nothing before we signed VVD, Alli and Fabinho. Good coach or bad coach, we finished some 20 points behind city and if your ambition is to win the league, then you need new additions.

16.) 14 Jul 2024 08:38:52
So we're somehow evaluating how the season will pan out based on the quality of the players that are mentioned in rumours?
It's amazing what effect the transfer window has on some folks.

17.) 14 Jul 2024 08:39:26
Anyone thought that slot might want to get a feel for the players before he dips into the market?

{Ed025's Note - absolutely Pegleg, the problem is that all the desired players may have been snapped up by then mate..

18.) 14 Jul 2024 08:46:43
The following, when we signed them, weren’t arguably CL players:

Wijnaldum
Mane
Henderson
Firmino
Robertson

5/ 11 starters

I’ll trust the club to see potential in players and then develop them into winners.

19.) 14 Jul 2024 09:20:26
Can see both sides of this, obviously Slot will want to see what he already has it his disposal but EVERY club usually needs a couple of signings each summer to keep improving their squads. there's no right or wrong on this one, each fan just wants what they think is right for the club. Personally i think we need 1 or 2 signings of the quality to go into the first 11 and while i understand fans call for patience the other way of looking at it is that this time last year the likes of Alexis and Dom were already well in the door. And sometimes when we try to be a bit clever leaving it late we end up with Melo's, Kabaks and Davies. Hopefully the club have it all under hand.

20.) 14 Jul 2024 09:21:58
So Diaz and Joe Gomez doesn’t make into “Slot would like assess the players” camp ?????.
Slot is a head coach he has a very minimal input into the transfer, it’s Hughes and Edwards who are running the club ????. People actually think the club is waiting for Slot to give a go ?????
Honestly how much does Slot know about Antony Gordon? ????.

21.) 14 Jul 2024 09:32:02
VDB, Morton, Danns there's 3 new signings.

22.) 14 Jul 2024 09:33:08
FIFA managers out moaning. We have Signed the players they want even though ed2 has stated we are looking, it’s always fsg are skint and other clubs have signed players etc etc.

23.) 14 Jul 2024 09:55:15
I understand where you’re coming from. We couldn’t reach the Europa League final with these players and a better manager.
So you’d assume we’re going to strengthen the team now we’re in the Champions League.

24.) 14 Jul 2024 10:29:08
I am pretty sure we bid £110m for Caicedo last year and didn’t spend it on anyone else, so we don’t need to sell to buy.

I would like Slot to see who he has at his disposal but like Ed25 said, our target pool may be limited if we wait too long. A tricky situation that I am sure the management team are aware of.

The team we had was not strong enough to win the league last season. It wasn’t strong enough to cope with Europe either. It competed but is that really the limit of our ambition? Or do we want to win?

I do not think we can win with the current squad. If fortune favours us, we could get close but luck with injuries is not something we should rely on for starters. So I don’t expect us to be overly fortunate. Apart from VAR, because as the whole world knows, we never get any VAR decisions against us.

Exciting times ahead. I am going to sit back and watch this season pan out without getting too emotive in pre/ post match assessment and just come here for banter.

Now I have a wedding to go to, apparently this Sarah isn’t too bad ….

25.) 14 Jul 2024 08:53:18
I agree with you Ed025, the Euro's and Copa have not helped, but they never do when big tournaments happen. Take into account a new manager and that is going to cause extra issues.

I also agree we do need a couple of signings, I just wonder if its going to be out of the blue players, nobody knew about.

{Ed025's Note - it could well be SA, i would expect they would be doing something behind the scenes mate but it would be good for the supporters if they had a bit more information i suppose mate..

26.) 14 Jul 2024 09:44:13
I agree with everything you’ve said on this thread ed25. I’d be looking to move some of the older fans favourite players on aswell while they’re still worth money.

{Ed025's Note - yeah Pegleg it looks like the transition from Klopp to Slot may not be as easy as some may think mate, he has a very good squad to pick from of course but it does need a few tweaks here and there i feel, and there are the issues of players who are coming to the end of their contracts to be addressed..

27.) 14 Jul 2024 11:50:28
Man city - haven't signed anyone of note yet.

Arsenal - haven't signed anyone of note yet.

Spurs - signed an 18 year old who may or may not be a starter.

Man utd - haven't signed anyone of note yet.

Chelsea - signed a few players, none of whom improve the starting 11 in my opinion.

Newcastle - signed a back up goalie

Aston villa - potentially signing a replacement for their best midfielder who they had to sell.

Everton - tee hee hee!

I could perhaps understand the furore if we were lagging behind everyone else, but the market is very slow at the moment, probably due to international tournaments and the fact it's only the middle of July.

Dunno if this makes me a "real" fan or not, but regardless of who comes in, I still support the club as much as I did before the window opened!

{Ed025's Note - City and Arsenal are not playing catch up though RP, the others are not a threat to the top 3...except possibly Everton mate.. :)

28.) 14 Jul 2024 12:17:38
Walkon, those “three signings” won’t win us anything significant.

29.) 14 Jul 2024 13:01:20
Arsenal are not playing catch up?
They must be happy with any trophyless season, then.
And I'm sure City would like to catch up to Notts Forest, say, in the number of European Cups won, too.

30.) 14 Jul 2024 13:06:48
Man city - Dani Olmo / Concrete interests in Bruno Guimaraes
Arsenal - Ricardo Calafiori / Ivan Tony
Spurs - Who cares?
UTD - they have completed 2 already.
Liverpool - Antony Gordon, Interest / Monitoring players / Let Slot assess the players.

31.) 14 Jul 2024 13:24:29
Frode that's impossible to say unless they are given a chance.

32.) 14 Jul 2024 14:39:57
Harry, that's all misinformation. Man City has not signed Olmo and Arsenal have signed neither Calafiori nor Toney. And last I checked, Utd have not signed anyone so I'm not sure what transfers they have completed already. The fact is, the other clubs are all in similar positions to us, with no one making any significant movement yet, despite what the rumours are suggesting.

33.) 14 Jul 2024 14:54:27
Not signing a player isn’t the same as not trying to sign a player.

So to make the assertion that “we’re not signing big players” because we haven’t bought one yet, is frankly stupid and dumb.

34.) 14 Jul 2024 14:26:44
I get we want to improve ed, my point was that the transfer market is pretty slow in general at the moment, we're not exactly lagging behind.

Harry, just mentioning players the media have linked to other teams just proves my point, they haven't signed any of them. Who are the 2 world beaters utd have signed?

35.) 14 Jul 2024 16:03:48
If City really were intending on buying Guimaraes, Newcastle wouldn't have had to offer Gordon to us and start shopping Isak around to interested takers, would they? They were banking on City doing exactly that, and they didn't, so spreading fake news to disparage your team might not be the wisest course of action here.

36.) 14 Jul 2024 16:26:46
Also I'm not really sure that it can be said that we weren't good enough to win the Europa. While one might legitimately suggest that we were beginning to run out of gas, I feel like we approached the games against Atalanta in completely the wrong way, the team looked shellshocked playing against Gasperini's man marking across the pitch, as though they didn't prepare for it in the slightest. We didn't lose that game because we lack personnel, rather something went terribly wrong with our preparation and coaching for the game, as well as Klopp's (usually astute) in-game management across two legs. Also, we actually played well in the opening exchanges of the first leg and Elliott especially was causing them problems, demonstrating just how we can get through the man marking through movement. Bad finishing did let us down when chances presented themselves, so in that regard you can put some of the blame on the players, because Scamacca certainly didn't miss on the other end.

37.) 15 Jul 2024 04:31:07
Seriously does nobody want to see if slot can improve players we already have before buying new players?

Let's be honest apart from Mac almost everyone had underwhelming seasons last year so it would be wise to let slot have a go with what we have and use this season as a year to see what works in his system and what doesn't. Then plan properly for next season.

People are so impatient.

So fellow reds who are your realistic picks for Liverpool to buy this summer.

HessleRedTom1980

1.) 10 Jul 2024 20:04:46
Simao. You heard it here first.

2.) 10 Jul 2024 20:35:28
Taxi driver told me he took Quaresma's agent round to Slot's house this morning. Expect the announcement tomorrow.

3.) 10 Jul 2024 20:36:08
Caicedo for £120 mill.

4.) 10 Jul 2024 20:53:32
Lavia is better. And worth easily 75 million now.

5.) 10 Jul 2024 23:45:25
Konoplyanka. What a baller, he is. Or was.

6.) 11 Jul 2024 01:23:45
Gaston Ramirez, future star.

7.) 11 Jul 2024 08:02:14
Any of the following.
Bozo Texino
Snoogy Doogy
Spodo Komodo
Rol Farris.

Really impressed with Slot’s first interview and his general demeanour. Spot on. Anyone else agree? Got me quite excited for what his tenure will look like.

HessleRedTom1980

1.) 20 Jun 2024 14:10:40
Yes it’s a very interesting interview especially to know he has watched some training sessions from last season. Hoping that he is able to utilise the squad, develop players and find a few new players to meet the needs of his style of play. Hoping we start well which will no doubt help!

2.) 20 Jun 2024 16:21:50
Yes, I do. I wish him all the best and hope he succeeds. I like him.

3.) 20 Jun 2024 17:41:18
Absolutely. He seemed to mention Manchester City and Pep Guardiola a lot. Which I liked. He’s here to try and take the Crown, I’m all for that.

4.) 20 Jun 2024 21:32:59
Yep, said all the right things, looks bright and fresh and eager to get started.

Reminded me a lot of Ronnie Moran - hopefully his tenure will be as successful as Ronnie's season in charge :)

25 May 2024 07:24:40
Happy Saturday everyone.

Quick question; who do we think will make a breakthrough from the academy next season. Anyone know anything about the talent at U-18 level? Ed’s?

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed001's Note - does Beck count? If so I will say him. If it is ones that haven't played for the first team yet, maybe Morrison.}

1.) 25 May 2024 08:02:06
Have you heard anything about Figueroa, Ed? He seems to know where the goal is and the press were complimentary about him when he signed the professional contract a little while back.

{Ed001's Note - only about him being the son of the former player, I have not seen him play yet.}

2.) 25 May 2024 08:24:08
Trey Nyoni and Trent Kone-Doherty both looked exceptional at u18 and u21 level this year. Trey plays CM/ AM and Trent plays LW/ RW.

Doubt we’ll see them as regulars but certainly could see them in cup games or making the bench if we have injuries again.

3.) 25 May 2024 09:43:55
I would quite like to see Danns get more time on the pitch this season. Really looked bright and had a great eye for goal.

4.) 25 May 2024 10:34:26
Agree with MK, both Nyoni and Trent Doherty look top notch at that level, infact nyoni who only turns 17 this summer only played a few games b4 he was bumped upto the u21s. morrison does look good also, as does Pinnington.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel with Hughes. A really bad move from the club. I do worry with him being in charge of transfer negotiations, as from the outside he doesn’t exactly seem very good at it.

If players leave there’s an opportunity to find other stars. Though I hope Trent, VVD and Salah stay for at least one more year. Would give the club more time to plan and for people like Hughes to get their act together.

The mistakes made were not being quick off the blocks in buying a high quality DM and CB as well as not resolving contracts of three of our best players. I’d describe it as bordering on negligence, and Hughes has not come out of the window looking good at all. I hope we vastly improve how we do things in January and next summer in particular.

I think in more recent seasons he mellowed a little in terms of his answers as he could be cutting and take comments not meant personally as personal. Respected his knowledge and the info he gave us on a regular basis. A proper one-off.

It’s interesting really, I think Klopp was a lot of heart, determination and passion, but not ruthless enough. I think Slot is much more of a thinker and more ruthless. He will make changes and doesn’t look like he has favourites who keep playing despite delivering little. I think Klopp’s weaknesses held us back in the latter years of his time with us, too loyal and didn’t refresh the real quick enough.
