Assuming we don't get a CL spot (still clinging on to that bit of hope), what forwards can we attract to Liverpool that will want to come. Assume we move on Balo and Borini so £20 million max!

The Irish Rover

{Ed002's Note - Obviously the finances don't work like that, but Liverpool still have a firm interest in Ings and Vietto - plus Origi will be arriving.}

1.) 25 Apr 2015 14:00:52
I agree. Maybe i should not have put a figure in as such. With your contacts/opinion would you suggest which would be the better fit for Liverpool. Cheers

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

2.) 25 Apr 2015 16:33:03
Ed do you no if Vietto will come or not without CL football?

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

3.) 26 Apr 2015 01:16:54
no need to assume rover , we will be lucky to get 5th spot , BR and the players are half way to the beach , and we have switched off , its going to be Ings , why ? , he costs less .

Ok, so we are 2 weeks to Christmas! Hard to believe i know but i want you all to spare a thought for other people maybe outside your family circle this Christmas.

Over here in Northern Ireland a local radio station (Cool fm) run a mission Christmas every year. Last year they had requests for 5000 gifts for kids of all ages and sex that would have had nothing to open on Christmas Day. An awful thought for any kid i'm sure you agree. This year they have requests for close to 7000 gifts. It tells me how many families are struggling these days and need a little bit of human kindness.

On doing a bit of research i can tell you that loads of other local radio stations run similar projects all over the UK. The Salvation Army also run a Christmas appeal.

So when you venture out to the town for a bit of seasonal cheer maybe you can spare a thought for those not so fortunate as ourselves. Boots do great 3 for 2 offers for older kids, Smyths toys also! That extra £20/30 will make a huge difference to some youngster this year. Please if you can, do your bit.

Thanks for reading.

The Irish Rover

{Ed001's Note - I will put this on all 3 main pages so it can be seen, great idea mate.}

1.) 11 Dec 2014 16:38:13
Nice one mate

2.) 11 Dec 2014 21:22:56
Who in gods name disagreed With this post ffs get a grip

3.) It's a great initiative and we have the same in Blackpool where the cash for kids charity runs mission christmas. We along with lots of local businesses act as drop of points for your extra gifts which are then delivered to main centres such as sainsburys in our area. All details on drop of points can be found on your local radio station.

All help is massively appreciated.

Cheers

4.) I normally disagree with most things you say on here Rover but spot on with this one.

5.) Hi it's Bauer media/cash4Kids in the UK. I spent some time with them last week sorting gifts to be sent to underprivileged children. Still time to donate
A premier league footballer turned up while we were there spending possibly 10 minutes doing f@@k all other than getting as much publicity as he could.

Top of the morning Ed02.

A question if you don't mind. When a transfer goes tits up as it has done recently (mentioning no names), Ayre seems to come in for a bit of stick/abuse. Some posters basically claim he is a poor negotiator and very slow in getting deals tied up. In your opinion, would this be a fair assessment? Or is he trying to do the best job he can under the financial constraints he is put under?

I remember a while back you mentioning Liverpool putting in bids way below the asking price therefore not even getting the other team to negotiate. Would they have been better of advised not to go for such players and save themselves from the embarrassment or is there always a chance, therefore worth a go so to speak?

Lastly, leading from the first 2 questions. If Chelsea had not have swooped for Salah would Liverpool have got their man for the price they offered (A third of the asking price?). I appreciate its a bit of a loaded question and I fully understand if you don't want to answer this bit.

The Irish Rover

{Ed002's Note - In my opinion the posters know nothing of the situation at all and as the new type of fan lives only in a blame culture, Mr Ayre becomes the target in such situations. These are the same people who want, Jones, Gerrard, Moses, Allen, Henderson, Johnson, Cissokho, Enrique, Sterling, Agger, Skrtel, Kirikou, Coates, etc., etc. out. There will be a process that decides what sort of money the club will be willing to pay for a player on a case-by-case basis. If an offer is only a third or so of what the selling club are looking for they would typically not be interested in any negotiations as it would be seen as futile. There will also be financial constraints that will need to be adhered to. Aside from interest from Newcastle there was also a bid made by another side for Salah - Liverpool would certainly not have gotten him for the amount they were offering. It was clear that they would have needed to go to Basel with a much improved offer.}

1.) Ed do you think not signing Salah was the right thing to do or not? I'm a fan, I care nothing about money, just want to see my club grow better and better. So please tell me in monetary terms, could not signing Salah deemed a success?

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what the question means.}

2.) 26 Jan 2014 16:26:50
Wasn't our initial bid for Suarez something like £12.7 million? Only to be practically doubled within a week?
Ed02, any idea if this is true or am I making stuff up?

{Ed002's Note - I don't recall the numbers but it was something like that.}

3.) Krishna, you are asking a hypothetical question and only time will tell if Salah going to be the next Oscar or if he'll end up the next Torress .
The club (Our club) obviously thought he is very useful, that's why they initiated negotiation, the fact that they again failed to complete / close suggests there is a problem that the club need to address.

4.) Eds the question seems to ask whether the club are not prepared to negotiate due to their valuation on players being no where near the selling clubs or is it the fault of Ayre specifically as he is not skilled at negotiating? I hope most fans who use this site want to support the club and not spend their time slagging everyone off but u must understand these events become very public fails in the eyes of the fans and we want to understand why we lose out.

Cheers

{Ed002's Note - The fans work in a 100% blame culture and have been shown repeatedly to blame the owners and Mr Ayre for another transfer window where eight £40M players failed to arrive.}

5.) It's seems strange all the same that we spent close to 3 months scouting him, he was earmarked to be a starting XI player and yet we wouldn't spend £11mil to get him. Keep in mind we've recently spent £10mil on Borini, £7mil on Aspas and £7mil on Alberto all to warm the bench.£11mil for a starter doesn't seem that much.

6.) Ed, I think the Salah situation does emphasise a problem in the way we pursue players. I accept that we do not have the money that many of our rivals seem to have, but we proved last January that there is a way to do well in January. In that window we went early and we went fast and landed both Coutinho and Sturridge. The issue highlighted in the summer with Mkhitaryan and to a lesser extent Willian, and now with Salah is that we wait too long and then start too low, thereby giving other teams the chance to react. It is even worse in this instance, as Chelsea would probably not have bid for Salah if we had gone for him on Jan 1st, as they would not have had Mata money ( or need to replace him). The fact that nothing happened ahead of the visit of Henry and Werner means we wasted our best chance of stealing a march on the competition. That would seem to have really cost us. This is the best chance in ages to crack the top 4, but it required us to be ready on Jan 1st and then to go quick and hard to get the players that BR deemed to be the ones to improve the first XI. I am not saying it is down to Ian Ayre, but I think collectively the senior team made a big mistake in delaying and then starting too low on our primary January target. From the outside it looks like we are a little naive as to how the market works these days. We don't have the pulling power we used to, so we have to be far smarter in how we go to market, and right now we are just making ourselves look a little daft as we constantly get beaten to players. The biggest concern is that Luis Suarez must be looking at this and going "this is the problem, no one wants to come and join me here!" Do you not think we need to re-think our approach somewhat to ensure we can bring in players who can improve our First XI as opposed to just attracting a plethora of squad players?

{Ed002's Note - The delay in the summer was largely due to Suarez. Liverpool were not in the same ballpark as Basel in terms of price for Salah.}

7.) No disrespect eds just another opinion. I would say the md of a company is pretty good place to start when things are done badly. After all the book stops at the top! In an earlier reply you suggested we had a committee which arye was part of. Let's check his credentials for being on that committee. He had little experience of signing players and doig deals and knows nothing about football. How on earth is he any where near it? Dempsey fiasco was a joke now salah! If we had of signed Dempsey for peanuts I might add he would now be a valued squad player sometimes starter. We need a winger to push on for top four how is it not worth going in at 11 mil? The book stops at the top and yet again the team will just miss out. Same old problems "this time next year". What a shambles. A window when we need decisive action to kick us on for a real possibility of success the chance goes begging. Not just on salah but the whole window. Mata to utd Chelsea sign three. Our main rivals with big squad already put u to shame

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea did not sign three players to replace Mata. So with your erroneous cliché about the "book" stopping at the top, perhaps you should go after the owners who are at the top. A nice little hate campaign to force them out and get Sheikh Al Thani or Sulaiman Al Fahim in?}

8.) I would say all the comments on this thread are generally questions with some sarcasm, frustration and clear lack of understanding at what goes on at MD level in a prem club and especially at LFC so eds002 please try and respond constructively to the debate rather than giving people short shrift.

Are u clear what happened in the Salah deal?

{Ed002's Note - Try not to be an idiot - I am perfectly clear what happened with Salah.}

9.) I didn't say Chelsea signed three to replace mata. I said many sign mata and Chelsea have also bought players. If we are to compete over a season with rivals such as these then we should be getting things done. Low balling for players highlights weakness at magement level not ownership! Ian arye is at the top of management and has a large portion of responsibility. Are you suggesting he doesn't? Our owners have spent millions already there the last in line. The management/ arye have responsibility for putting that money to good use and sign players not mess around until other clubs beat us to the chase.

10.) Why are you arguing with the eds you just come off looking like a pelican. If you don't like there opinion don't come to the site, no one is forcing you to.

11.) Rather than blame us for being too slow isn't it obvious that Chelsea let us, Spurs or another team do the negotiating, agree a fee and then they come in over the top and offer more at the last minute?
That is Chelsea's strategy. You can't blame the management at Pool or other teams for that!

{Ed002's Note - You clearly don't understand how any of this works.}

12.) Let's just stick to the point.We have a great chance of breaking back into the top 4, but we all see we need some help in doing this.Salah, who we scouted and apparently negotiated with Basel for didn't happen.Most of us would of liked to see him in a red shirt, and felt much better about our chance's if he had arrived.But as Chelsea got him for £11m, we are none to happy as to who and why We didn't get him.So we play the blame game, and Ayre is first on the list.

13.) 27 Jan 2014 18:12:38
Absolutely spot on niceaction

10 Jan 2014 21:59:42
Ed02. Have Napoli put a bid in for Agger. Has Agger turned it down? Thanks.

The Irish Rover

{Ed002's Note - I suspect that he will stay to the summer.}

02 Sep 2013 22:03:19
Excuse my ignorance, but did Borini go on loan or not? Was the deal completed? Cheers. {Ed001's Note - yes, he is at Sunderland for the season.}

The Irish Rover

1.) Good luck Borini, work your socks off and come back a better player. YNWA

2.) Think this was a bad move by Liverpool however, with the amount of abuse the lad was getting of his own fans it might be the best thing for him in the long run. You plastic fans ripping into a player who had about a month of actual football uninjured hang your heads in shame, some of the people who support us are an embarrassment. {Ed001's Note - that is the reason he was sent out on loan, too many boo boys on his back.}

3.) I like borini I think he works hard. Hopefully he does well and comes back

4.) If so then it might be very shrewd management, no point him staying here just to have his confidence destroyed.

5.) Borini makes some great runs - He is a very clever footballer who creates space for others.

He will get goals too - maybe not loads but he is a good finisher. Shame he has gone out on loan.

Shame all the fans who didn't see BR as the answer take their frustrations out on a young player who spent most of last season injured - Thought LFC fans were better than that!

6.) Football is all about different opinions. If everyone had the same we wouldn't have forums like this. I don't accept someone being given a 'plastic' or 'boo boy' tag just because they don't rate a particular player. When we pay £725 for a season ticket, and i'm in my 29th year as a season ticket holder, then we hold the right have an opinion even if its not popular. I'll always support the men in Red, through wind and rain. But I'm not so blinkered that I will claim greatness in every player. Borini, in my opinion, wasn't isn't and never will be, of the quality our team deserves. Of course, I wish him well and hope he is a success at Sunderland.

So Sean Cox makes a return to Anfield this weekend. Now that is a reason to put in a top performance. I'm sure the fans will give him a great reception. 👍.

The Irish Rover

1.) 07 Nov 2019 16:46:40
Well said mate, I wish him all the best.

2.) 07 Nov 2019 18:55:54
Excellent news made up for him.

3.) 07 Nov 2019 19:20:08
Awesome stuff. I hope he gets a rousing reception when/ if his name is announced. That will just give the crowd even more impetus to give the City players hell on the pitch. For those going to the game, make Anfield as partisan as it was vs Barca. Each time City have the ball, boo the life out of them. Make it loud when we attack and louder when they have the ball (or was it vice-versa) . Come on, You Redmen!

4.) 08 Nov 2019 09:40:37
He’ll get a real special welcome.

5.) 08 Nov 2019 22:49:59
Made me smile when I heard he will be at anfield. Such a horrible situation he's faced but so warming to see the love he's received from the whole club, klopp, players, fans all keeping him in our thoughts throughout the last 18 months of his battle. The special relationship forged between LFC and Sean Cox has shown the beatiful side of football at a time where the modern game is growing uglier by the day.

I really hope he has a special day and feels the genuine love from every red man women and child within anfield.

I would love to dedicate todays win to Berg and his family. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean a great deal but I hope he knows how much we are thinking of him. So as much I'm not really fussed on the thumbs up (or down), I hope that we can all press that button to show how much we care and in the times of need we are truely one big family.

The Irish Rover

1.) 01 Sep 2019 08:40:17
A big thumbs up to you Rover. YNWA Berg.

2.) 01 Sep 2019 09:30:58
Thanks you everyone logan would love that 👍 🌟.

23 Aug 2019 21:58:26
When do Everton start their transition period? 🙈🙈🙈.

The Irish Rover

1.) 23 Aug 2019 22:37:29
Let’s make sure we take care of business before we start having a laugh.

{Ed025's Note - nah, lets laugh at them first para.. :)

2.) 23 Aug 2019 22:48:38
must say ed0025 your favourite player had a terrible game today . Gomes gave the ball away with every pass . Credit to Villa though they look tough to beat at home.

{Ed025's Note - gomez stank the house out roy and schneiderlin and siggy were no better, when your midfield play like that you dont deserve to win any game mate, villa were the better side and deserved their win..

3.) 23 Aug 2019 22:56:47
It was a pretty poor showing by Everton Ed and really the team from last season. Gomes hardly passed to a team mate, the 2 centre backs got bullied and Walcott couldn't score furniture.

{Ed025's Note - its hard to argue with that irish, really poor show by us mate..

4.) 24 Aug 2019 00:14:31
Shows you where Everton sit in the world interest when their match this morning in the worlds most popular league isn't a top story online.

25 - there is still time mate. 👌👌.

{Ed025's Note - they need to pull their socks up though faith, very disappointing mate..

5.) 24 Aug 2019 01:42:42
Ed25, I see that your boy Ritchie is already getting his diving style well-patented for this season, already and we are just 3 games in.

{Ed025's Note - players get schooled in it red wolf and things wont change until they make the punishments harsher, it happens every week and at every club...even yours..

6.) 24 Aug 2019 02:02:43
Bad day at the office Ed025 mate🤔.

{Ed025's Note - terrible day barry, very poor showing by us mate especially in midfield where we showed no commitment or skill, its up to silve now to get a grip of these overpaid prima donnas..

7.) 24 Aug 2019 07:33:53
I thought this was a Liverpool site? Let's talk about the reds not some mickey mouse team.

{Ed025's Note - how insular of you jeff, its not all about liverpool you know mate and maybe thats why you have the reputation that you have..

8.) 24 Aug 2019 08:14:15
You’re making me nervous ed25 😂.

{Ed025's Note - take no notice of me para, we will win one shortly and i will be telling everyone how we will be threatening the top 4 mate.. :)

9.) 24 Aug 2019 09:30:44
Everton have spent some money now and on paper look good. Surely questions have to start to be asked about the manager soon? Fair play he did well with teams battling relegation but so did Big Sam and no club wanting success would touch him with a barge pole.

10.) 24 Aug 2019 10:05:52
Silva out, Moyes in! 😆.

11.) 24 Aug 2019 09:54:14
Ed25, there are no serial divers at LFC, sorry. Salah only did it once or twice and hasn't done it for the past 6 months cos Klopp has spoken to him about it and asked him to stop, per Ed02. We shall see if he stops completely BUT for now, he is not a serial diver. Can't say the same for your useless Richarlison. That's neither here nor there, mate.

Your lot vs Aston Villa was dire from start to finish and your Andre Gomez (who is only better than Fab on the planet where Neverton fans exist) was so bad, it was frightening BUT don't worry, you're on the up and up and are about to make the top 4 soon. Is next milenium a good forecast for when that will happen?

{Ed025's Note - you are full of it as per usual redwolf, i have no qualms about telly you how bad everton were last night, they were awful but unlike you i will not be making any apologies for them because i tell the truth, you on the other hand make excuses for liverpool when they are poor or even worse blame the ref, pep guardiola or any man and his dog to fulfill your agenda..

12.) 24 Aug 2019 10:02:03
Ed025 think it just shows how competitive the best of the rest is going to be. I think it's going to be a season where most teams can beat each other with the exception of Newcastle who I think will be cut a drift quickly.

{Ed025's Note - its going to be hard for us all WYred because yourselves, city and possibly spurs are miles ahead ability wise, its basically a gaggle of the rest of us fighting it out for 4th spot, but saying that if we perform like we did last night we may well be slugging it out with the newcastles of this world mate..

13.) 24 Aug 2019 10:25:43
Hilarious team, truly. Serves you and your lot right for throwing games against our rivals every time.
But seriously, Everton need to stop hoovering up the garbage from the bigger teams and focus on scouting players that come really improve them. Even I could see that Walcott, Gomes, Mina et al were awful players, and Everton should have steered well clear. This tactic did not work for Sunderland with O’Shea, Brown and the like, and it won’t work for Everton.

14.) 24 Aug 2019 10:27:18
just tryna make u feel better 25. truth be told, well imo anyways, everton are average and will be up and down all season.

{Ed025's Note - you could well be right faith, its the everton way im afraid mate they build you up only to knock you down when you least expect it..

15.) 24 Aug 2019 11:07:51
Some risky comments getting made on here the day of a big game against a dangerous arsenal attack, and a ropey looking Liverpool defence! If we give up the chances we did against Norwich at home, it’ll be a high scoring game!

16.) 24 Aug 2019 11:13:28
Everton will be a force at home but way punching below their spendings in away games I don't know why they are getting an easy ride in the media, as the money they have spent they should be challenging for top 4.

17.) 24 Aug 2019 11:09:17
Not a chance ed025, Newcastle are in a league of their own imo. All teams will have bumps in the road that’s fighting for the European places but there will be more good days then bad mate.

Should be a cracking season just hoping city prove to be human to make it interesting,

{Ed025's Note - its about keeping players fit for liverpool WYred, the reds first 11 is just as strong as city,s but they have a lot more depth imo mate..

18.) 24 Aug 2019 20:01:53
the most worrying thing about that game for me was how bad gomes was and your manager still didn't sub him. He should've been the first player off! It's one thing having 4 strikers and a winger on the pitch but it's another thing to be able to pass the ball to them rather than the opposition. I know the only option was probably Davies but on that showing I'd of had the lad who did the headers with salah before the super cup final on over gomes.

19.) 24 Aug 2019 12:22:54
Ed25, chill out with the name-calling. Just makes you look small and weak and besides, It's just banter, man. Triggered much? Either way, not arsed about All the other stuff you posted in your rant cos none of it is true.

Don't care what City win or how much the Cry-Baby-In Chief at City whines like a baby when things don't go his way. We are in his head and he can't shake us off so I'll take that any day. Also, if a ref makes a mistake, I have the right to say it BUT in your thinking, I'm making excuses. You are aware that certain things are not a binary choice, right?

Either way, Your lot have spent over 300m in the past three summers for the dross we are still watching before all that money was spent. Good luck with all that, mate. As for the diving. I maintain what I said. Salah dived once or twice and has not dived since. Read it and weep, bro. Peace!

{Ed025's Note - i dont name call or rant redwolf, i am just an educator who is trying to help you with your problems of persecution and obsession with pep guardiola and everton my friend...your welcome..

20.) 24 Aug 2019 13:05:36
25, serious question and banter aside - what are your expectations for this season?

{Ed025's Note - that will change from week to week faith, i start every season thinking we will win the league then after every defeat think we will be relegated...but we will probably finish in mid table mate..

21.) 24 Aug 2019 13:29:24
Poor Ed25, cut him some slack people, we can't all be perfect can we? ;) . Lol Ed mate I watched bits of the game last night and as already stated, Everton was dire, still though, you'll keep up, that's a plus, right? :) .

On a serious note I see Everton doing well this season, I really do. It's only very early on in the season, let's not go barmy taking the pi*a just yet, yet ;) .

{Ed025's Note - its a fairground ride for us blues salah one minute we are up and the next minute down, i tend to keep my expectations pretty low mate as i have been here before..

22.) 24 Aug 2019 15:27:22
What agenda, Ed25? Salah has not dived since the Palace game near 7 months ago. Richarlison is still diving till this day (or yesterday) . I spoke facts, my friend. All the other "agenda" stuff you ranted about is just white noise cos you never addressed the issues I actually posted. All you did is deflect with "stuff" that I could not even be arsed about.

Also, you calling me names just means you actually had NO rebuttal to the stuff I actually posted. But don't worry, my friend. Don't need to be a genius to tell me that Everton were dross vs Villa as even a blind man could see that. As for City, we'll deal with them when we get to play them. You just figure out how to help your boy Silva keep a job after spending near 150m for the rubbish your lot is still serving up. Peace and Love, my friend.

{Ed025's Note - players dont dive when things are going well redwolf its a symptom of frustration, things are going well for mo at the moment as he is scoring goals and liverpool are winning, there will come a time within the season where things are not going so well though....then im sure he will revert to type..

23.) 25 Aug 2019 17:19:29
No prob, Ed. Just so you know: There are indeed players who dive regardless of whether things are going well or not like Kane, Zaha or Vardy so I disagree with that assessment. Also, we were under pressure to win games from Jan. and got some draws and STILL, Salah never dived so again, your assessment is OFF by a mile. So much for your ability to educate me on things cos clearly, you lack the fortitude to achieve such a feat, lol.

Like I said, we shall see if Salah starts diving again and if he does, I will be the first one to point it out. Peace and Love.

24.) 26 Aug 2019 07:56:10
haha just like any fan then 25!

{Ed025's Note - absolutely faith mate..

17 Aug 2019 19:23:57
Love VAR 🤪.

The Irish Rover

1.) 17 Aug 2019 19:28:16
Looks like it's going to be a very interesting season, to say the least.

2.) 17 Aug 2019 19:30:41
I cannot believe that. 2 shots, 2 goals and a last minute goal (that looked a perfectly good goal) ruled out by VAR. Unbelievable.

{Ed047's Note - you’d hate to be on the end of that VAR decision, didn’t make a single difference to where the ball was going and it hit both players arms. 🤷‍♂️

3.) 17 Aug 2019 19:31:56
What must it do to a team when they all celebrate convinced they score and next minute bang! No goal, must be draining an also angry, this a whole new era of football, all about the drama!

4.) 17 Aug 2019 19:32:09
I wouldn’t be happy if we were denied a winner like that though. I know the rules have changed regarding a handball that leads to a goal but that was extremely harsh on City. I’m sure this will happen to us at some point this season though. What is it they say? These decisions even themselves out over the course of the season.

5.) 17 Aug 2019 19:33:25
Listen, there’s no doubt that we’ll be on the wrong end of a VAR from our point of view at some point this season. I posted a couple of weeks ago that it has the potential to really shake things up, those points won and lost through wrong decisions are, in the main, going to dry up. It’s a game changer for sure and will have a decisive role in who wins the league, in my opinion. Some strange things though, I thought that was a definitely pen for city in the 1st half when the Tottenham defender had his arms round the city players neck, I thought that was the sort of thing that would be overturned to be honest.

6.) 17 Aug 2019 19:42:38
My heart pump pi$$ for them. It will be like penos, they even out over a season, except VAR isn't a weak ref.

7.) 17 Aug 2019 19:49:03
I like it. Hope that the stadium gets some clarity about what is happening.

8.) 17 Aug 2019 19:56:16
Off course, I'm only joking! I hate VAR, its crap. You're celebrating, hugging the coach, doing your wee dance, then some clown 3 miles away gives no goal for an accidental handball. For me, it ruins the game.

I guess you will have to wait when score, to see if Walter Mitty down the road can see a reason not to give it, before you go running buck daft around the pitch, celebrating.

9.) 17 Aug 2019 19:57:09
They were levels above Spurs but hey that's football. Fair play to Spuds though they had a go and got a point, more than most do.

10.) 17 Aug 2019 20:13:51
I thought it was no goal weather the handball was accidental or not? If so it was the correct call.

11.) 17 Aug 2019 20:20:34
Polecat VAR is just as error prone as any ref. If that was disallowed for hand ball then surely we should of had a pen last week or the Chelsea pen should never have been given. It’s this clear and obvious mistake rule that allows VAR to be just as error prone if you ask me. Was that hand ball clear and obvious today? Was it **** but VAR still overruled the ref. I thought VAR would take away the banter between fans ( ie the ref done you a favour ) but it’s just as controversial as ever.

12.) 17 Aug 2019 20:07:31
Agreed Ed047. I'd be fuming if I was Pep. Not only for the the disallowed goal, you can maybe except that, but Lamela blatantly wrestled Rodri to the ground in the box with box arms around his neck. If that last minute goal is ruled out by VAR, surely VAR must step in and say that's a penalty. But hey, I'm a Liverpool fan and every point that City drop, I'm happy, so I'm not complaining.

{Ed047's Note - I agree mate and I’m happy that both dropped points too, a win win for us both! 😂

13.) 17 Aug 2019 20:13:25
I thought it hit a Tottenham arm first but was watching on a dodgy stream Ed047 so didn’t mention it in my original reply in case I was wrong. Definitely wouldn’t be happy if that happened for Liverpool.

{Ed047's Note - 100% I wouldn’t be happy mate, have you tried hesgoal, they have HD streams on there. I use it for the 3pm games.

14.) 17 Aug 2019 20:26:50
On a side not where was VAR when De. Bruyne went down and replays showed there was absolutely no contact. Can’t remember which Tottenham player made the challenge but I know he received a yellow card.

15.) 17 Aug 2019 20:28:32
VAR was not the issue, the new rule this season states, any goal scored via a handball (including accidental) will be disallowed. The referee and VAR are blameless for Citys disallowed goal.

{Ed047's Note - true mate but it’s must be so frustrating when it literally has no bearing on the goal, not one Spurs player complained.

16.) 17 Aug 2019 20:55:35
Scootinio. It has been stated that VAR will have absolutely no say in yellow cards.

17.) 17 Aug 2019 20:58:19
100% the goal should have been disallowed, but City should have had a penalty earlier in the game. I don't mind VAR, but I dislike how there doesn't seem to be a consistent standard with its usage.

18.) 17 Aug 2019 21:08:55
Didn’t know that EpicPotato. Thanks for enlightening me. VAR the and the new hand ball rules are only going to make this season more controversial. Plus the new rule you can receive the ball in the penalty box from a goal kick seems to be overused don’t you think. I watched the Arsenal game and they seemed to do it every goal kick even though it got them into trouble. It seems teams are doing it just because they can at the moment.

19.) 17 Aug 2019 21:22:25
I think a lot more is being made of it than is necessary to be honest. It's just that is disallowed a last minute goal for the current champions which makes it a hot topic.

Seriously, how many goals are scored where an attacking player handles the ball? Not many. Also, I have to admit, if Laporte hadn't have handballed it, it wouldn't have changed direction into Jesus' path, so by the letter of the law, it's the right decision. I I just think we are overestimating how many times that particular scenario will happen over the season.

20.) 17 Aug 2019 20:58:10
Ed047 I’ve got a kodi box and it was some Croatian channel. To be fair it was great for the Liverpool game apart from the commentator sounded like a foreign Alan Hansen. It seemed to go a bit nuts during the City game though.

{Ed047's Note - I had one a few years back and it was hopeless, hesgoal has all British commentary and so far has the best picture, I did use bein for a while and used to laugh at the crazy commentary on there! 😂

21.) 17 Aug 2019 22:17:16
Hesgoal is usually my go to, today for the Liverpool match though it was terrible, almost unwatchable. Hopefully just a one off or my internet playing up.

22.) 17 Aug 2019 23:24:58
I used to use the Kodi free channels. I remember watching LFC Vs QPR (yes it was a while ago) and I watched the first half on a Kazakhstani channel and at half time tried to find some English commentary.

I found and American stream. About 5 minutes into the second half I heard "That was amazing play from Daniel Sturridge in the offensive zone". I then switched back to the Kazkhastani channel.

23.) 18 Aug 2019 00:16:58
Swings and roundabouts, im sure other teams us included will have decisions like that against us that season. City can moan all they want but we all play by the same rules. Came off a hand, they changed the rules that handball if its accidental or not is handball and to disallow it? Pretty sure that's it, so ref got it spot on. can't argue with that. Not the biggest fan of VAR but it helps fair play. For example If someone beats city by a point this season, they can look back and think VAR actually got the decision right and I know it was not intentional by the city player but by the new rules technically cheating stopped them winning the league.

Nice to see spurs give it ago, hopefully this season more teams start attacking city and not just bending over for them.

going to be a exciting season i think :-)

24.) 18 Aug 2019 02:44:23
Seems a common theme that VAR is only adding more controversy but it really isn't. That was harsh on man city but it's the official handball rule that has hurt them not VAR. That disallowing of the goal was actually 100% the correct decision according the rulebook, in that scenario VAR was not to blame at all. We will soon adjust to this new rule as it actually cuts out any sort of dispute, . The handball ruling was always a controversial grey area whereas now it's more clear what is the wrong or right call. It went against city today but another day it will go for them.

I like the addition of var as it only improves the percentage of correct calls being made and a fair result for every team.

25.) 18 Aug 2019 11:26:21
Epic Potato your comment about the American commentary made me laugh. I’m a bit strange as if the commentary is foreign I still have the volume up. Not sure why.

26.) 22 Aug 2019 10:00:06
not one spurs player saw it came off his arm. ya can't tell me we wouldn't be spewing if we conceded a goal like that under the old rules. I mean what is an "intentional" handball other than one like suarez for uruguay vs ghana?

They have to give a standard which they did. Now we know what it is and it is objective. any arm contact contributing to a goal is ruled out. sounds fair to me.

So Maxlfc

Based on your statement that you would stick with our backups. I assume that you think Liverpool will do better than City in the 3 domestic trophies and Cl, or at least 3 out of 4?

The Irish Rover

1.) 13 Aug 2019 16:55:48
Irish, I cannot predict that we will do better in all competitions than City. I do believe that Klopp will go for a team with majority of backups for the FA and League Cups with the likes of Brewster, Hoever, Elliot and Larouci getting chances so not sure how we will fair in the the Cups. Then there is also the World Club Cup. Lots of games to come this season.

What I can say is that a team selection from Adrian, Hoever, Matip (if Gomez is going to be first choice going forward) Lovren, Larouci, Milner, Elliot, Shaqiri, Ox, Origi, Brewster, Keita and Lallana surely is capable of a good run in the cup competitions?

With the amount of games ahead this season our 1st team starters will not be able to play every minute of every game. That is for sure.

We definitely not going to win every trophy either this season. It has never been done and do not expect us to.

I cannot see City doing the League and Cup treble again this season either.

All eyes will be on the League for Klopp this season. That is the trophy I want us to win and if we can somehow, by chance add the FA and League Cup, World Club Cup and CL trophies then it will be a bonus.

I guess it comes down to ones expectations.

I will doing a seperate post on why I would stick with our backups.

2.) 13 Aug 2019 17:07:20
The thing with the cups is the draw plays a huge part. Last season we got Chelsea and Wolves. If we have the luck of the draw on our side for a couple of rounds in both cups this season then that could make a world of difference. I’m guessing we are in pot 1 for the CL draw as well?

3.) 13 Aug 2019 17:17:41
Thanks for the reply Max.
I have to say that it does seem a bit strange to me that you aren't more confident on Liverpool having a more successful season given what you have said about our squad. I would have expected you to be more bullish in your response if I'm honest, a bit like sitting on the fence.

Maybe, even tho you think we have a squad equal if not better than City's that it might come down to man management? You don't think Pep is a better coach than Klopp do you?

Surely if we do have the better coach, as I think we do, then it should be a given that we do better than City? Maybe you could think of a reason we shouldn't? Cheers.

4.) 13 Aug 2019 17:51:49
Irish, just refresh my mind, what did I say about our squad? I am missing the part where I have said we have a squad equal or better than City's.

You see, it is not me sitting on the fence or putting words into others mouths.

So for that reason I hope you enjoyed reading my reply.

5.) 13 Aug 2019 17:54:31
I don't think, and never have thought, that feeling a totally new starting 11 is a good idea. Players should be rested when they need it, and replacements should come in when required. In my opinion, fielding 7 out of 11 starters 3 games in a row in a rotational way is far more likely to get results than fielding a completely new, cold 11 in any game. Players who haven't played need time to get up to speed in a game, and they need players who are up to speed beside them to cover for them. That's how I'd like to see the busy periods handled if we're going to compete on all fronts.

6.) 13 Aug 2019 18:41:36
"Based on the above, which set backups would everyone prefer? I will stick with our set of backups thanks :-) "

From yesterday's post Max, as per my original post Max. You don't need Johnnyr's glasses?

7.) 13 Aug 2019 19:27:40
You have lost me Irish. What did I say about our squad?

8.) 14 Aug 2019 06:24:49
Max, you’ve been cornered here, you’d lose a lot less face to just admit your statement about our squad depth being better than city’s was a tad ambitious.

Liverpool should loan him out at the very least. The club wanted to sell Wilson and Kent. They didn't sell either but only Wilson gets to go out on loan? Seems weird to me, makes no sense to keep him.

Calf injuries can by dodgy enough. You think it's fine until you maybe sprint or put your boot thru the ball. I'm hoping he has felt a strain which might only be a few weeks, but he did seem to be hobbling pretty bad which, to me would indicate something worse 🙄.

Well if he is to miss any games then now is the time. A 2 week international break and an away game to Palace and home to Brighton. Without disrespecting both these teams we could have a lot harder games for Salah to miss, if he is to miss any. Maybe the international break will be enough?

I have to say I have never heard Liverpool fans boo the team at a match or even on TV, never mind how difficult it has been in the past.

I also felt quite sorry for Xhaka the other day. He might not be the greatest player but its the manager who picks him and thinks he's good enough. Booing your own players isn't going to help, yet Xhaka gets criticised for his reaction, which is quite normal in my opinion.
