I knew of curaçao the drink but not the country.
14 Jun 2026 23:35:14
I've been there.
15 Jun 2026 00:07:23
I've been there too, Scouse. That stuff gives you a raging hangover.
15 Jun 2026 00:28:41
Never heard of them, this World Cup's a complete and utter joke. Empty stadiums, £1000 tickets, Mickey Mouse teams nobody's ever heard of and 4 quarters for "mandatory hydration breaks". As if professional athletes can't go more than 20 minutes without a drink. Whatever did we do before? Pretty sure the last time a player died of dehydration was never.
14 Jun 2026 21:34:17
Anyone else chuckling listening to Ally McCoist say how slow the Dutch are moving it around, that he wants Gakpo to go around and take the player on. Has he not watched Liverpool all season?
14 Jun 2026 22:18:46
I'm chucking listening to McCoist, can't stand him.
14 Jun 2026 22:27:45
Actually, I'm watching the second half right now, and Gakpo is doing exactly what McCoist is saying he should do, and getting a lot more joy, something he did not do in the first half, let alone all of last season.
In fact, Cody nearly scored a minute ago (66th min), where he cooked his man inside and outside. Just saying.
14 Jun 2026 21:44:09
Yes.All Dutch people are bad.Have to say in my lifetime Holland have played far superior football to England at major tournaments with fabulous players. And managers.
14 Jun 2026 22:40:19
Flo who said all Dutch people are bad? Seen that Oli and I watched his highlights from previous tournaments and wondered where the Gakpo we brought is. Always was a good player.
15 Jun 2026 00:50:39
Whatever, Keegan. Gakpo will be fine. Last season is over. We have a new manager. Everything will be dandy. My God.
15 Jun 2026 01:53:39
Not one person said Dutch people are bad. I was pointing out the lack of knowledge from the commentary team about this season gone. Get a grip, thinking everyone's slagging off the club, the players or former manager.
14 Jun 2026 18:55:26
New rules for next season:
• Longer off the pitch after treatment
Players who have received on-field treatment must now remain off the pitch for at least one minute (increased from 30 seconds).
• 5-second restarts
A five-second countdown applies to deliberate delays. Exceeding the limit on a throw-in transfers possession to the opponent; delaying a goal-kick results in an opposition corner.
• 10-second substitutions
Substituted players have 10 seconds to leave the field. If breached, the incoming substitute is frozen out and cannot enter until the first natural stoppage after one minute has passed.
• VAR for second yellows
VAR can now overturn second yellow cards, but it cannot give them.
There will be new areas of focus for referees, most notably around hair-pulling.
• A red card will be issued when there is a clear and deliberate action to pull an opponent's hair with excessive force and/or brutality.
• A yellow card will be issued if the action is deemed to be without excessive force and/or brutality.
• Challenges on goalkeepers will be penalised where an attacking player makes a clear action with no intent to play or challenge for the ball, which results in contact that impacts the ability of the goalkeeper to play or challenge for the ball.
14 Jun 2026 22:06:00
I like the rules to reduce time wasting, especially now we have Iraola. Used to be horrible watching teams try to kill our momentum under Klopp. Didn't happen much against Slot, mainly because we never really had momentum. 🤣
14 Jun 2026 22:28:36
Indeed, Kopite. Momentum, what's that?
14 Jun 2026 23:37:56
Load of cack if they're still allowed to hold and pull players to ground whilst in the box.
14 Jun 2026 18:18:33
Wirtz running this game proves Slot was a fraud. Unlucky for some like Florian.
14 Jun 2026 18:44:45
Grow up.
14 Jun 2026 18:50:20
I'm watching him and he's playing the same as he did for us. I would hardly say he's running the game.
14 Jun 2026 19:36:09
Against the mighty Curacao.
14 Jun 2026 19:42:23
😂 Is he? Against the mighty Curacao. 👏⚽️☺✌
14 Jun 2026 19:57:00
Wirtz is playing well and did so in his last game too. Personally think he is better on the left with a bit of license to roam, I know people want him in the 10 position but he just hasn't looked convincing there. Wirtz on left with a pacey RW would work a treat with a solid 3 behind in midfield.
14 Jun 2026 20:13:39
Good to see fans support our player and not run him down because of the opposition.
YNWA.
14 Jun 2026 20:34:26
I'm certainly not running him down, SR, I'm merely saying he pretty much performed the way he did for most of the season, in my opinion.
14 Jun 2026 20:43:46
It's strange, no matter what the situation, we can always bring it back to us last season and Slot.
I was a true Slot outer from November, but he has gone now, so I think all players should start from a clean sheet.
I was totally shocked how bad Frimpong was last season, but for me he is a new signing this season.
Slot has gone, so if the same players are as bad as last season, then we can say it was not Slot but the players.
So let's hope all our players playing in the World Cup play well and come back full of confidence.
14 Jun 2026 20:56:05
Rome, not sure what you're watching re: Wirtz compared to last season in this game. None of what Germany is doing now as in, quick ball movement, pace on the flanks, overlaps from fullbacks, keeping the oppo. penned in (Curacao be damned), incisive passing, movement ahead of the ball carrier, etc., was NOT what Slot deployed in his system last season, esp. where the players aren't even allowed to run, let alone dare try to execute any of the above.
So if all the above is the case (which it is), then, where in the football did you get the idea that Wirtz was just "playing the same way he was playing with us last season"? Slot's system last season did NOT involve a damn thing that Germany actually does with Wirtz in the team, quite frankly. Please, do tell. I'm curious.
14 Jun 2026 20:58:07
In a free role off the left, you say? But some people want to waste 80m on Barcola to play Wirtz in the 10 with Szoboszlai in the pivot, smh.
Clear as day, the best balance to our team is Wirtz on the left, and Szobo in a midfield 3 with Grav / Jones and a proper DM with them.
14 Jun 2026 21:03:57
Run a game? Couldn't run a bath.
14 Jun 2026 21:05:50
They're a really poor team, so not a match to judge a player on. In the prem, power and pace in wide players is useful, he's a clever player but doesn't possess much of either. He looks more suited to playing more centrally as a 10.
14 Jun 2026 21:08:34
I stand by what I say, Oli. He had some decent games for us and he had a decent game this afternoon. We're not discussing how Germany played, I've no interest. I'm saying he didn't run the show. I'd hope he performs better for us next season.
14 Jun 2026 21:50:02
Thought he was really good today for the 1st half hour. The assist today was what's good about him. Don't forget, WD40, that I am actually an LFC fan and want him to succeed. But if you're over the moon with his whole display today, fine. Me personally, I thought he drifted out of it as the game went on. He needs to do better.
14 Jun 2026 22:38:31
"We are not discussing how Germany played".
Rome, you're not making any sense here. You literally compared the way Wirtz played today in a game (for Germany at the WC) with the way he played for us last season. Suddenly, we are not talking about the way Germany played?
Also, I never said he ran the show vs Curacao in my post either so again, not sure what you are talking about here, once again. Either way, I'll think leave it here because you seem very confused.
14 Jun 2026 23:18:18
Typical Slot apologists out in defence with nothing to actually defend; if they were clutching at straws before, I have no idea what they're grasping onto now. He was rubbish, he's gone, get over it. Wirtz has essentially maintained a high level of performance for Germany despite looking poor whilst at Liverpool, same goes for most of our international players. It absolutely does highlight Slot's shortcomings, no doubt about it. I wouldn't bring it up as a talking point myself because he's long gone in my mind, but the apologists really need to get over it. People will continue to make these sort of comments now and then, just like Rodgers or Hodgson; however, past their due date they may seem, they are correct. No need to get 'butthurt'.
Wirtz does not play well from the LW. We know this for a fact: it doesn't suit him at all, he has precisely none of the attributes you need for a player in that position. He plays best as a left sided 10, he will play well as a 10 under a proper manager.
14 Jun 2026 23:18:53
Oli, not for the first time you're pi**ing me off. All I'm saying is regards to how Wirtz played as an individual. Once again, I couldn't care less how Germany played.
I didn't say that you said Wirtz ran the show. I said that, regards to the original post, WD40, who did say that.
And for the record, I'm not confused.
14 Jun 2026 23:20:52
Florian was once again on the periphery for the majority of the game today. Why do people feel this huge need to justify his performances. I can only go by what I see in a red shirt, and from what I see he's a decent player, nothing more. Hopefully he proves me wrong. So far he's not a Zola or Silva, he's a Luis Garcia or Benton.
15 Jun 2026 00:20:39
"He's a Luis Garcia or Benton" 🤣 Now I understand why you thought Slot was a good manager.
15 Jun 2026 00:56:51
Andoni will get a tune out of him.
14 Jun 2026 18:02:41
3 players in German line up this evening that we should buy.
Brown is a superb left back.
Schlotterbeck is best left footed CB in Europe.
Nmecha is perfect CDM and is home grown.
Hopefully we see Stiller later on and a few goals for Wirtz.
14 Jun 2026 18:22:44
Nmecha is not a CDM.
14 Jun 2026 18:43:56
Utd linked with Nmecha.
14 Jun 2026 18:51:41
It's Curacao. Let's see how they perform against the better sides.
14 Jun 2026 19:01:02
I'm Curacao. Wirtz will play.
We can't blame Slot if he doesn't perform, though.
14 Jun 2026 19:59:36
Erm, Rigsby, we can blame Slot. We have a talented squad and Slot did Jack rabbit slim to get anything from most of the squad.
14 Jun 2026 22:59:47
Frozen, it's over, bud. Let it go.
14 Jun 2026 17:39:01
Apparently Lille want £60m for Bouaddi. Arsenal already bid £50m and are battling it out with PSG. Arsenal have been talking to him since 2025. Don't think we have a chance unless we go straight to Lille with £60m and promise him a starting position.
14 Jun 2026 13:06:37
Apologies if someone already posted about this, but there was a lovely moment a couple of months ago where Sean Cox presented Mo Salah with his local GAA club jersey with Mo’s name on it and YNWA written in Irish. Sean is a massive LFC fan who was brutally assaulted before a Liverpool-Roma CL match a few years ago.
He received severe brain injuries and has been in a wheelchair ever since. Absolutely awful. The club have been v good to Sean and his family since the attack. You’ll find a video of Sean meeting Mo if you google it. Best wishes to Sean and his family.
14 Jun 2026 13:36:04
Yes the Man City scumbag players mocked his life changing injuries
14 Jun 2026 13:56:51
Jurgen and the whole LFC family have been a huge support to Sean since the attack.
14 Jun 2026 14:05:31
WD-40, yeah I remember that now... terrible that.. they were also singing, never the victims, led by a Mr Stirling....
14 Jun 2026 14:14:23
And that Robby, is why I will forever refer to Sterling as vermin.
14 Jun 2026 15:32:10
No fan should go to a football match and not come home or experience this.
Humanity is in a sad state of affairs.
14 Jun 2026 15:39:21
Yeah it was well posted on here at the time Pim. Unique username, just a pity about the county. 😁
14 Jun 2026 15:43:54
You're outnumbered by Meath men on here, Bazza! Hon the royalers!
14 Jun 2026 15:58:22
Go on the Wee County...
14 Jun 2026 15:29:30
Mr. Guntattoo is such a massive cubt. I hope he's forever miserable. Twunt.
14 Jun 2026 16:27:47
Missed the Man City scumbags mocking this, did anything come from this? It's absolutely abhorrent if true
14 Jun 2026 17:08:34
Oh, you'd be surprised how many are on the site from the Wee County. 😉
14 Jun 2026 17:43:18
Couldn't resist that username, Barry. It was in your honour. 😂 But had to represent the royal county, even though my dad is a Louth man. There does be some slagging in our house. 😂 Good to know I'm not alone, Traore!
14 Jun 2026 18:26:29
I'll go with that PIM. 🫡
14 Jun 2026 18:26:19
It is true if it was lies the ED'S wouldn't have allowed my comment.
14 Jun 2026 18:41:54
The rat who done it, never got long enough, should be rotting inside a cell
14 Jun 2026 21:08:57
Bit of luck the judge that sentences Sterling will be a Red.
14 Jun 2026 10:02:51
Bringing Nunez back on a free is a no brainer for me especially considering Ekitike's injury and Isak's injury record.
Surely the higher ups are thinking same.
To think he is still only 26 years. I really hope we get the deal done.
14 Jun 2026 10:51:01
It's ironic you use the term "no brainer" in us trying to get Nunez back.
14 Jun 2026 11:31:47
Great idea until he's through on goal, if he makes it that far without being called offside.
I loved his energy, but as part of a Frankenstein style hybrid, combined with Mo Salah.
14 Jun 2026 11:48:01
It's a no brainer if the attackers we want to go for are out of reach and Nunez would accept wages that make sense for us.
14 Jun 2026 11:54:01
He just didn't suit Slot's style at all, but neither did a lot of the players, tbf.
2 year deal with an understanding that his deal will not be renewed and will be allowed to leave on another free agent.
Unless he does the impossible.
I'd be all for it as well. Miss his energy in the team, we all know he's not the best finisher, but my God he never lacked effort.
14 Jun 2026 11:55:13
I agree, but I doubt very much Edwards does. Hopefully he gets the P45 sooner rather than later.
14 Jun 2026 12:02:52
He's been released from a Saudi club and was only in the league squad for 6 months.
The club are allowed 10 foreign players so clearly they saw him as their 11th best foreign player and are willing to take a 50 mill hit on him.
If he does join, I hope he proves me wrong.
14 Jun 2026 12:19:50
I would love him back. His energy and enthusiasm would be welcome. Not to mention his availability. He's a physical freak in that sense.
Finishing and final action can also improve with age. So, I don't think that part of his game is a complete write off.
I am sure Forlan and Cavani got better at converting with age.
Sometimes you just need a mad man in your squad.
I totally get why many wouldn't want him back though. I guess I am a sucker for a bit of South American mayhem.
14 Jun 2026 12:36:30
What's it got to do with Edwards? I thought Hughes did the signings.
14 Jun 2026 12:50:30
Darwin has his strengths, and he certainly scored some screamers, but I do believe some memories are clouded to think he was a pressing monster. Bobby, Suarez, Torres and Diego could arguably be described as pressing monsters and Darwin now and again chased lost causes and speed and got passed around.
Looking at running stats for his LFC career they are similar to Isaks at Newcastle and Ekitike last season.
It's almost like people believe Darwin was pressing and turning over possession numerous times a game. His actual successful presses were pretty low.
14 Jun 2026 12:51:38
Surely there's other players on a free who can't score?
14 Jun 2026 13:07:54
Good point, well made, Irish.
14 Jun 2026 13:09:30
Totally agree JK23, I really wish people would stop wanting players to come back after they leave it's getting ridiculous now.
A player who failed in the Saudi league and now want him back like he was a great player, he was sold for a reason and that was because he was poor.
14 Jun 2026 13:18:17
Darwin should be looking to join a team where he gets game time. As soon as Ekitike and Isak are fit, he'll be on the bench or out of the squad.
I'd take him back, but I don't think it's in his interests.
14 Jun 2026 13:21:46
Re pressing - he does press. You don't have to make loads of turnovers to be a good presser.
For two of Darwin's three seasons, (22/23 & 24/25), we didn't press at all.
In Klopp's second to last season, the midfield couldn't provide the platform for the press, as the legs had collectively fallen off.
In Slot's first season, he went with a plus one at the back, hollowing out our press entirely.
The season we did press (23/24 - Klopp's final season), he probably should have scored 35 goals instead of the 18 he did score (in addition to 13 assists), given the chances he missed. That is a fair criticism.
14 Jun 2026 13:51:06
So Darwin did press and the evidence for that was in 2 of the 3 seasons he and the team didn't press at all.
Are you a politician, mate?
14 Jun 2026 14:27:41
You can't press effectively if the system isn't set up. You just end up looking like a headless chicken running for no reason, i.e., hollow.
14 Jun 2026 15:21:35
Fly sold, mate. I've done a 180.
You've just described a player who can score 35 goals a season in the toughest league in the world and was only let down by the system one season and the midfield the other.
Crazy to think he's being let go on a free.
14 Jun 2026 15:54:13
Rome1977!, Hughes negotiates the deals, but Edwards has final say on all transfers.
14 Jun 2026 17:46:48
Fair enough, Chewy.
14 Jun 2026 18:51:20
Klopp and Slot both dropped him, so why not let Iraola do the same if he's free and will accept a relatively modest salary?
He's not good enough for us and a free transfer and low wages won't change that.
14 Jun 2026 19:01:15
We can't let Mo Salah walk on a free and sign Darwin Nunez on a free in the same window.
14 Jun 2026 21:18:03
I love him. I'd have him back, shouldn't have been sold. Half of you lot was making excuses for Slot in his first season regarding players saying he didn't trust them? Look what happened when he got players he trusted.
This season our game looks like it's changing to wingers and a striker he may well do better. One thing's for sure, he will do better than Isak.
14 Jun 2026 22:33:53
Of course he would, John.
14 Jun 2026 09:59:07
I know the WC just started but it seems the European leagues are being showed up here.
The past 15 years we have seen players with ego's, ref standards drop, over hyped players and agents contaminating club and country coaches/managers how many games their clients must. Like how hell is Igor Thiago picked over Pedro? How in the hell is Hendo, Fab and Casimeroto name a few picked for the WC. Even Ronaldo and Messi. Like what the hell. Please don't tell me "leadership". That concept doesn't make them run faster or play better. Today's football is not about football.
It's about records, endorsements and image rights. Rather include them on an advisory basis and not for the pitch. There are so many hidden gems bursting at the seams cyring out to be discovered.
European football needs a reset with the players diving, wasting time and dark arts, it has regressed. Take Gabriel for instance, he looked like a kid against Morocco because PGMOL was not there to shieled him. And that's just to name a few.
The 70's Brazil squad will thrash this current squad.
Game is overcoached.
14 Jun 2026 11:34:23
100%. Agree on all of this. Used to love watching Brazil, but now there's nothing like the great teams.
14 Jun 2026 12:07:45
I do agree on Gabriel. I was interested to watch him purely because he plays in a team with 5 CBs who sit very deep most of the time and go back to front very directly. He has loads of protection both from the tactics and personnel at Arsenal, and the woeful refereeing that allows him to get away with blatant cheating.
I suspected that once he plays in a team where he has to play higher and will allow the CBs to get isolated, he would struggle. I was right. He has neither the positional sense nor the pace to cope in that system.
He's a tackler rather than a defender, similar to Romero at Spuds. If the team are deep and tight he will throw himself into things and it looks flashy. As soon as he's asked to track a run or position himself correctly when isolated against a forward he's found wanting. And the diving is just plain embarrassing.
I guess you have to give Arteta credit for setting up in a system that protects him and Saliba and encouraging the diving under minimal contact. It has won them the league after all.
14 Jun 2026 13:14:36
To be fair to Igor Thiago, the man did score 22 goals in the Premier League last season, making him the second top scorer.
14 Jun 2026 13:20:52
I think it would be a tough game between this Brazil side and the one from the 70s.
The 70s side might sneak it, but some of them will struggle to keep up with the pace at their age, and others will be dead by now, so will likely have to play with fewer than 11 on the pitch.
14 Jun 2026 14:07:10
I was thinking the same thing about Brazil...
Could this be the worst Brazil team ever?
Midfield of Casemiro, Bruno G and Paqueta really doesn't strike any sort of fear into anyone.
14 Jun 2026 17:48:28
Brazil 78 and the last few Brazil teams have been garbage. There's no samba spirit to them anymore.
14 Jun 2026 18:44:55
Brazil in the 70s was like the Harlem Globetrotters, now Fabinho is in the middle of the park. He was finished when he left Liverpool, now still gets a game for Brazil.
14 Jun 2026 19:02:36
Brazil 82 - a magical team. Since then it's been more results over aesthetics.
Damn shame.
