Hi eds and all, is there a plan/ idea for Liverpool to actually make an approach to sign werner? Understand that we have supposedly acted inappropriately again but is there a plan from the club to make an effort to sign him?

Also I hear Karius is linked to a move to Wolves to replace the outgoing Ruddy is there anything in that rumor?

Stay safe and well all.

Cheers.

jkh1983

{Ed002's Note - The club would need to approach RBL in order to buy the player - obviously there is interest. There is also interest from elsewhere of course.

Loris Karius (G) Liverpool find him back on the doorstep and will need to find a solution - perhaps a reduced price and an early exit - CSKA and Hertha Berlin offer opportunities - does not wish to return to Turkey although there is interest from there. With Boeckx getting toward the end of his career and Roef's departure this summer already agreed Anderlecht would like him to challenge first choice Van Crombrugge. Wolves need cover, but Karius would not be first choice there - and regular playing time is what he will be after.}

appreciate your time bud stay safe wherever you are!

Junior Firpo price slashed apparently from the €50 mil quoted to LFC to closer to €25 mil

We probably never even asked about him but good player can play ahead of Robbo aswell as cover.

jkh1983

1.) 31 Jul 2019 05:50:10
Wow season sales is in.

2.) 31 Jul 2019 07:46:08
So we should pay €25m for a player to sit on the bench and get the odd game instead of Robertson? Pointless.

3.) 31 Jul 2019 08:06:02
Tbf, with how prices are these days that is probably within the limits of what you would expect to pay for a back up. Not that i think we should necessarily. Just that its not beyond the realms of possibility just based on the price alone.

4.) 31 Jul 2019 08:37:12
I like Larouci and Milner for LB cover. Firpo doesn't want to sit on the bench.

5.) 31 Jul 2019 09:02:14
Firpo is a very versatile player, so he can cover the wings and CB as well. However, as others have stated, I’d prefer it if the younger lads got an opportunity.

6.) 31 Jul 2019 09:45:10
Agree - let Larouci have a shot to grow into the backup role, and if Robbo is out for the big games Milner can cover in a pinch.

7.) 31 Jul 2019 10:57:42
As I said I don’t expect it johnnyr1970 chill!

As others have said he is more than capable of playing more than one position still if the price was as reported it’s a no brainer in this market.

8.) 31 Jul 2019 11:55:56
He cannot play CD - some believe he might be capable in that position but there is absolutely no evidence to believe this. If he were bought it would be for cover down the left side but we already have sufficient cover that wouldn't upset the applecart. He is quite an attacking player and if we were going to be losing AR then I would expect him to come in but as it is it will not happen.

9.) 31 Jul 2019 12:41:28
I doubt too many players are capable of playing left mid and centre back for us, even as cover!

10.) 31 Jul 2019 13:10:40
He can also cover RB, DM, CM, RW, ST and GK. heard he is also a manager coach.

11.) 31 Jul 2019 14:48:48
We shouldn't be buying cover, we should be buying players to compete for the starting spot.

12.) 31 Jul 2019 16:14:03
@Firmane. Gareth Barry springs to mind. He could play left mid and centre back.

13.) 31 Jul 2019 16:53:41
RedGravy he would be good competition for a place. If as per another post we sold Wilson for 25mil and brought in Firpo that would be good business in my eyes.

14.) 31 Jul 2019 18:22:44
Selling Wilson and buying Firpo as a like for like replacement is false equivalency, given that Wilson is a very attacking player and a goal threat, whereas Firpo presents no goal threat whatsoever. If we were selling Robertson then it would make sense to buy him, but sorry, if you’re suggesting that he’d be adequate back up to Salah or Manè, you’re very much mistaken.

15.) 31 Jul 2019 21:25:28
Wasn't it one of the Eds that said Firpo would not be joining as a back up and would only make sense as a Robertson replacement? That pretty much ended that line of thinking for me. Dropping the price doesn't really change those facts.

16.) 31 Jul 2019 21:36:31
I didn't suggest they where like for like!

17.) 31 Jul 2019 22:08:12
Going to Barcelona would be a backup also. I don’t believe all the suggestions every time a player is linked it would be a replacement for a first team player it’s a squad game has been for a long time we don’t only use 11 players.

18.) 01 Aug 2019 00:52:11
I think the realistic thing to consider is that even if he was available for transfer his own personal choice would prevent Liverpool being a possibility. Andy robbo is mid 20s and has proved that he's one of the best LBs in Europe over last 18 months.

Jodi alba for Barcelona and Marcelo for Madrid have been mainstays for their clubs for the last 5 years at least, Madrid have shown with mendy signing they want to freshen up that role, jorda alba has shown recently he's not so special as a full back.

Firpo is a young Spanish LB who I'm sure wants that Barcelona or Madrid transfer. Why would he sign for Liverpool who have Robertson probably the most nailed on first choice LB for his club in the world and sadio mane also on the left wing.

He's not world class yet by any means but he's young and if he has any desire to become a great player Liverpool would be arguably the worst choice of club for him to join.

19.) 01 Aug 2019 08:05:12
So you are suggesting the player should fear competition? Any player worth there salt should thrive on competition not shy away from it. Alba for the record has a long time left in the game.

09 Jul 2019 10:37:37
Interesting that Lewis wasnt part of the selection for the training sessions of late, do the Eds know if he will be loaned out for the season to gain some competitive experience? Cheers for the work as always.

jkh1983

{Ed001's Note - that is the idea.}

1.) 09 Jul 2019 12:25:27
have any clubs shown any interest?

2.) 10 Jul 2019 09:49:10
He has now joined up with the senior squad along with 8 other academy players. Really looking forward to seeing some of them in action.

11 Aug 2017 00:27:10
Move for Luan tonight / tomorrow.

jkh1983

1.) 11 Aug 2017 01:11:18
He's the only player I've ever watched on YouTube who doesn't look very good! Perhaps he'll be a world beater!

2.) 11 Aug 2017 01:40:46
should be looking to improve the back 4 imo. probably the worst of the top 6 clubs maybe more.

3.) 11 Aug 2017 07:40:15
Canada_red I don't think our defence is that bad. There is quality there. Just too many mistakes.
Look at Leicester when they won the league, absolutely solid at the back, individually they aren't Worldies.

How much of the problem is klopp and the way we play leaving us exsposed so often?

4.) 11 Aug 2017 08:04:08
Our defence struggles massively from set pieces, individual errors and rash decision making. The majority of the games we lost last season we dominated and then conceded with the opposition scoring with very limited possession or chances, whilst we huffed and puffed at the other end. This problem stems back before Klopp and personally I think until we change the personnel who have been playing there it will likely continue.

5.) 11 Aug 2017 08:17:28
Ourdefence is shocking at set pieces an a team like man United will expose us this season due to the height in their squad.

6.) 11 Aug 2017 08:41:49
To be honest, I've only seen him on the odd occasion, he looks more suited to Italian league or Spanish league football. Great touch, good football brain but seems slow moving and lazy to me. Might be worth a go if reasonably priced. Has anyone heard anything more concrete on this?

7.) 11 Aug 2017 08:43:23
Whilst I would agree that our system often leaves the defence exposed, some of the individual errors have just been inexcusable. Klopp can't gameplan for mindlessness.

8.) 11 Aug 2017 08:54:22
No question that's been an issue Barrmun and think the team is very aware. towards the latter part of last season we saw Klopp take a far more balanced approach which paid dividends in defence. What it doesn't fully explain however is why we're so poor at defending set pieces, how terrified we are of pace, and how weak we were in the air at times.

Think this year will be better and hopefully Matip stays fit, but still some question to be answered over how quickly Andy settles, whether TAA can grow into a starting role (Clyne is part of the problem IMO) and if we have any injuries at CB how Gomez can step up to provide cover.

That's a lot of reliance on three young players even if very talented. would like to see at least one more top quality defender brought in.

9.) 11 Aug 2017 09:05:16
Agree with ings watched him on you tube and it was lowlights not high lights, can't see how he is the next Ronaldinho more like Ronald Mcdonald.

10.) 11 Aug 2017 09:33:52
Are we in for another Brazilian to appease Coutinho. Anyone know if their childhood friends. After all we've just lost Lucas who was close to him.

11.) 11 Aug 2017 01:20:57
Doesn't he have 3rd party ownership? wouldn't that cause a whole lot of messing around as I think it is against the rules over here. Do the Eds know if the option would be there to buy out the 3rd party owner to? I won't ask about cost because I know you don't like to talk money but it has to be quite expensive.

{Ed002's Note - Yes it would have to be resolved before any transfer to England - Inter has been trying to find a solution.}

12.) 11 Aug 2017 09:52:01
BBC South American football correspondent reckons Luan is very very good footballer. Make of that what you want.

13.) 11 Aug 2017 10:31:03
@mrShankly - Tim Vickery is a highly regarded journalist and I myself have read a number of articles by him. It is not a guarantee that Luan is a good player - but Vickery is definitely somebody whose opinion carries some weight: he is certainly a better writer as well as a more knowledgable journalist than most at the BBC.

14.) 11 Aug 2017 10:48:46
so a BBC correspondent reckons he's a good footballer. Gerrard houllier reckoned bruno cheyrou was a world beater need i say more.

15.) 11 Aug 2017 11:13:26
I told a number of people how average Luan is and got mocked. funny how all of a sudden people are thinking the same. He is not good enough for our squad full stop. Kent, solanke, lallana sturridge are all brilliant back ups and better players. I don't believe for a second that klopp is interested in Luan. In more positive news I am absolutely delighted with FSG's statement on coutinho. They deserve some praise after so many 'fans' have called for their head on here.

16.) 11 Aug 2017 12:35:05
Luan is average, at best.

17.) 11 Aug 2017 13:15:59
So Redsteve, Josh and BingoRed how much have you seen of Luan? Have you watched him regularly over the course of a season (or seasons in Vickery's case)? Or have you browsed a few youtube videos and drawn conclusions from them? Tim Vickery is based in Brazil and a regular commentator on the Brazilian league, it's players, etc etc but your opinions somehow carry more weight? I have no idea about the quality of Luan but I know whose opinion I value more on the player.

Sakho to Palace.

jkh1983

1.) 31 Jan 2017 01:04:46
Unless they are not willing to pay the £20m and maybe Sakho might have to take a pay cut.

2.) 31 Jan 2017 19:38:18
Big Fat Sam will hate to give Liverpool anything moneywise so i reckon he'll hol out till late for the loan option.

3.) 31 Jan 2017 22:49:44
£2m loan fee until end of season and Palace will pay all of his wages, as reported on BT Sport a few minutes ago.

21 Jan 2020 16:53:19
If Nobby can't stay fit the next time he returns to the squad I would sell in the summer. Sometimes we have to cut our losses.

Curtis Jones will be ready to step into that rotational role.

jkh1983

1.) 21 Jan 2020 17:23:42
I like that idea, I love the player when fit but its a reoccurring theme with injuries if persistent sell him get havertz or neves.

2.) 21 Jan 2020 17:55:40
Day and night difference between Jones and Keita, skill and experience wise. Jones is two seasons away from being skilled and experienced enough to be able to contribute to a team playing at such a high level, week in and week out. Players like TAA come along only once in a while. Wrong to assume every academy product can be the same.

3.) 21 Jan 2020 18:59:10
I think if we were to try and integrate another younger player into the team then Keita's place would be ideal. Let's be honest, Keita hasn't played that much and even less full games, so it wouldn't be as if Jones would be exposed to 2 games a week continuously. The problem might be if we had a load of midfield injuries and he had to play more regularly. Midfield is a harder position to be thrown into the deep end than say full back but I like what Jones has done so far.

4.) 21 Jan 2020 19:22:08
I would argue Jones is better than Naby.
It's hard to judge because Jones hasn't played in the first team with obviously better players around him. If he had Fabinho protecting him, Salah and Mane making world class runs for his passes. Linking with Bobby. Behind you is Virgil. Trent n Robbo whipping the ball perfectly at you all game. Wij/ Hendo dominating midfield. It's hard to see how he couldn't be better than naby who has Only shown glimpses.

5.) 21 Jan 2020 19:49:43
Jones is better than Naby, on which planet? What has Jones done? Hasn't even played one pl game yet.
We will get 112 points.
Win the league v Everton or City
We will do the treble (or win 5 trophies) .

People - this is why we sometimes get a bad press as fans, stay humble, grounded, don't get ahead of yourselfs, just enjoy it. I don't care if we win the league with 85 or 100 points, it won't mean any less.

Calm down, calm down ha.

6.) 21 Jan 2020 20:03:19
Jones to take the Naby role in the squad would be fine and he’s not two seasons away he’s ready to be a squad player now. It’s not like nobby plays much is it!

7.) 21 Jan 2020 20:24:06
I like Jones but you lot are talking madness. Keita has played much better than Jones in midfield this season. Yes he's been injured a lot but he can get past it. Look at lallana. Was injured for pretty much 2 years, on and off. And now is doing well when called upon. I said he would have a part to play and that goal vs utd proved me right. Keita is only young and will get past this and we will have a brilliant player. Look how good he was playing before the injury. Goals, assists, tackles.

It doesn't mean Jones doesn't get a look in, but don't lose faith in naby yet.

8.) 21 Jan 2020 22:53:39
Amazing what one goal does! Was it yourself who said rossiter was the next gerrard?

9.) 22 Jan 2020 01:05:23
Mark I don’t think anyone is seriously expecting us to get 112 points or go unbeaten but it’s possible so it has to be the target. This is a freak season with the form we’ve shown we may never get a better chance.

I’m torn between going all out for that or going for the champions league. Seriously.
I just think we’ll have other chances to win the CL but we will never be in this position in the league ever again so we should try to make it extra special.
Both would be even better though ;-)

10.) 22 Jan 2020 01:39:28
Ridiculous to undermine keita and also overhype Jones to that extent. Keita has played in 49 games over 18 months since he joined, Jones has only a handful of cup appearances so how can you justify that Jones would be the better option. He's only 18 and yes he's shining in the reserves but prenier league and champions league games week in week out is too much to think he's ready yet, let him develop instead of handing him the pressure of replacing a 50 million midfielder who's played at the top of bundesliga for a few years and is obviously talented enough to play his way into our starting 11. It's like when people blindly thought Jordan ibe could replace the quality of sterling despite not having proved anything.

1 poster alluded to Jones finding it easier with all the top teammates he'd have around him but what about how he finds it coming up against likes of kante and other top midfields that he is yet to have played against. Give the lad time he's not ready yet and he doesn't need to be relied upon and thus weakening our side.

11.) 22 Jan 2020 08:47:10
Keita would have started against United had he been fit. Selling a player of his calibre isn’t what Liverpool do. Look at Lallana. He has been massive when called upon this season (when fit) . Keita in my opinion should not be sold.

The club has money to afford players time off. Whether Klopp signs another player to compete is another story.

However what do I know? The club will make the right decision i am sure but I’m a big fan of Keita and would be sad to see him go.

Now as for Shaqiri. He can be sold due to his performances on the field not compensating enough for his injury record.

12.) 22 Jan 2020 08:52:28
I’m glad somebody said it markop. Enjoy the ride but stay classy San Diego.

13.) 22 Jan 2020 10:04:02
I hate all this Keita bashing. Stevie G was riddled with injuries in his first couple of years, what would’ve happened if we’d sold him because we had Jay Spearing coming through?
Give Naby time to get fit, settled and get a proper run in the side. We have a worldy there it’s only a matter of time until he shows it.

{Ed002's Note - It has not just been a case of getting fit - it was a mistake buying him and the money could well have been better spent.}

14.) 22 Jan 2020 10:04:08
Its very true that we haven't seen Jones with the better first team players alongside him, but i tell you one person who has and that's Klopp. He sees it every day in training and there must be a reason why Jones isn't getting into the starting line ups and squads when Naby does. That is not me saying he won't be good enough in the future but Klopps selections are proving he's not quite good enough yet.

15.) 22 Jan 2020 10:42:42
Seriously Lads it far from Keita bashing and to reference Lallana as an example is also crazy considering Lallana has only been a squad player at best.

Facts of the matter are Keita was purchased for a lot of money, has shown to have a poor attitude when it comes to learning the language (although has improved lately) in order to satisfy work permit demands.

On top of that how many of these 49 apperances have been a full match? He is never fit and if you have a £50 million pound player taking a good wage out of the club that has been far from reliable since he arrived is something that needs reviewing and I fully expect the club to do just that although Klopp may be tempted to give him another season to see if he can reach his undoubted potential if and it is an if, he can stay fit and do what is required to stay with the club.

In terms of Jones, yes he is young, yes he has only played a few games. That does not detract from his obvious talent, he is a local lad and it never hurts to have them in the squad, if he is to occupy the role of Keita and play 1 game in 5 or more I really don't see the issue. The young lads will only develop and grow as a player given the chance and thankfully Klopp is of that thinking also.

{Ed001's Note - I agree 100%. Keita's attitude has been the big issue with him, he should have learnt the language and made an effort to fit in first and foremost. So a lot of the criticism he has brought upon himself.

As for Jones, he deserves a squad place, he deserves the chance to get games and develop. It might even be the wake-up call Keita needs if Jones gets the nod over him because he is making more of an effort.}

16.) 22 Jan 2020 10:33:12
Ed002 quick one if you don't mind please. In regards to your reply to Beckers Pecker. Is that your opinion that Naby is a mistake buy or is that a shared opinion from within the club?

{Ed002's Note - I would imagine that most in the club fail to see the transfer as much more than a self-inflicted wound.}

17.) 23 Jan 2020 08:06:43
I still like shaqiri. Anyone who scores a bicycle kick against utd is in my good books.

18.) 23 Jan 2020 08:12:22
I'd hate him playing for a rival.

06 Aug 2019 17:22:42
Taiwo Awoniyi has joined Mainz for the season.

jkh1983

1.) 06 Aug 2019 18:07:29
That's fourteen permanent departures and nine loan moves so far this summer. Harry Wilson should be announced to-morrow, Ryan Kent may well join Leeds Utd on Thursday or Friday (permanent) .

I suspect that there will be a number of loans to overseas clubs up to the end of August.

2.) 06 Aug 2019 18:13:48
Hopefully at Mainz Awoniyi will get decent playing time and get some Nigeria call-ups. His association with Liverpool will come to nothing otherwise.

3.) 06 Aug 2019 18:32:56
It was surprising given his form that he wasn’t called up, and also surprising its taken this long to announce.

Haven’t seen him in any photos at Melwood where has he been for 4 months!

jkh1983

21 Sep 2017 10:49:09
Hope everyone is well. Stayed away for a while to let the transfer window postings to die off hopefully have now.

I personally believe Moreno has really stepped up his game still has a way to go to improve his defensive game but it is much much better than it has been. In terms of what he offers going forward there is no doubts on that front the boy can play. Anyone who still finds time to slag the player off is obviously media led and not really watching the player perform.

In terms of the defence TAA had his first wobble last match which is to be expected of such a young player and will learn more from his bad games than he will his good. Still don't miss clyne.

Personally I would start Gomez and matip as first choice cbs for the next 10 games together now see how it goes let them form a partnership.

Think everyone in front of the defence has been top notch so far and the results will come if we can organise the back line we will be a real force.

PS anyone seen ed25 recently sure he thought his lot where going to be something special this season. never mind Ed normal service resumed.

jkh1983

1.) 21 Sep 2017 12:04:31
what r u talking about? did u by mistake wrote this in the second week of Pl when we defeated arsenal.

2.) 21 Sep 2017 12:37:36
I thought it was a great post jkh and i agree with you on nearly every point. I don't think the midfield has been great though. Hendo, Gini and Can have all struggled but i feel as though it is because they're too similar. They needed Lallana or Coutinho alongside them.

That point aside, great assessment in my opinion. I'd do exactly what you said regarding the defence.

3.) 21 Sep 2017 13:30:57
Spot on, JKH BUT three midfield needs some work tho. They need to havde defined roles for each player cos Lallana is out and that is messing things up right now cos the other 3 are too similar so Can can hold and either Wiji can be the B2B with Cou in the no. 10. The roles should be defined that way so every man knows his job. Defensively, We need a partnership for a sustained period, regardless of who it is so we can get some rhythm going cos the constant changing does not help with communication and rhythm cos each time, it seems the one CB does not know what the other CB will do. See Burnley goal.

4.) 21 Sep 2017 14:27:49
Sorry jkh, I'm not sure which games you've been watching, but our midfield has been anything but top notch - especially defensively. They're far too unorganized and our defence way too often pays for price for that.

Agree about Moreno though, and I too believe it is time to form a stone solid partnership at the back four and especially between our centre backs - whether it be Gomez/ Matip, Lovren/ Matip or Lovren/ Gomez. Something in that manner definitely needs to happen soon.

5.) 22 Sep 2017 11:55:54
Yeah agree the mid 3 lacks a little balance but this I put down to not having Coutinho or Lallana to call upon at the start of the season.

Crazy Horse if you can look past the result and what I was saying for the players/ roles that have performed you may have understood the post.

Berg you are correct the monies will be recovered but i noted a between the lines comment that some may have missed, self employed that either pay none or minimal tax will be levied on the same rate as employed once this ends.

That will be an area that a lot will be recovered from. Not to suggest all employed won't be expected to pay more as they will but the above will be the first area explored for recovery.

To clarify Drogie any club can sign a player now but they cannot register them until the window re opens as with HZ he would not arrive at chelsea till the end of the season.

We could set up deals now for any player should we wish in readiness for the opening of the window.
