Hi EDs. Appreciate your insights and replies which keeps this site interesting to read. Do you know the latest regarding Pavard? Seems like the focus has shifted to Lavia and other midfield targets. As much as we need to fill the gap left behind by Hendo and Fab, I believe we still need RB to cover for Trent as he could well play a bigger midfield role this season.

DAPred

{Ed002's Note - Benjamin Pavard (CB/RB) Chelsea see Pavard as a direct replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta but with a RB already purchased for the summer they have another priority, although Pavard remains an option. The interest of Manchester United will likely not be of interest to the player who won't want to be in playing exclusively as a RB - and I am not sure they can fix that. Inter failed with an offer in January but will return in the summer but are having to be careful over funds. Milan have had ongoing issues but can likely now be discounted. Manchester City may offer Kyle Walker as part of a deal - they are very keen but Bayern may want to keep the transfers separate . If Liverpool are seriously interested I can only assume it is via the new Sporting Director, and right now they are not involved in any discussions with Bayer Munich. A wildcard option might be Juventus - don't lose sight of them. Bayern are open to a new contract and Thomas Tuchel will not want to be looking for a replacement. For now, expect a new contract to now be rejected and clubs to continue negotiations.}

1.) 28 Jul 2023 10:28:11
Thanks ED002 for the latest update. Appreciate it as usual. I do hope Liverpool will not make the mistake they did last season where they spent on attackers when the midfield was the main problem area. This time around, we're putting all the focus on midfielders which seems right but we should not forget about our defense.

2.) 28 Jul 2023 11:58:13
Bradley is good enough with Trent and Gomez able to cover if he's injured. We need a lcb if we are sticking with the system and possibly move tsimikas on.

09 Aug 2017 03:13:50
Hi Eds, there are currently 2 contrasting reports out there. One saying that Coutinho is close to signing the deal with Barcelona and that Liverpool have accepted their bid. Another report is saying that we are resisting his sale and only a forced moved from Coutinho will see it happening as Klopp and the board would want to keep him. Obviously someone is reporting bullcrap here. Do you know which one is the real deal?

DAPred

{Ed001's Note - we rejected their initial bid, no deal is agreed yet.}

1.) 09 Aug 2017 05:32:54
But they're expected to come back. we also would like to keep him, but if Coutinho forces the move we may be prepared to sell at the right price as we're unlikely to force him to stay against his will.

Geez is it so hard to keep up ;)

2.) 09 Aug 2017 06:43:33
The Spanish and Brazilian journalists are saying Coutinho deal is agreed while the English journalists insists Liverpool won't sell or haven't even held any meetings with Barcelona.

We will see in the coming days who was right.

3.) 09 Aug 2017 07:52:52
The Spanish and Brazilian media are just posting rubbish to get their fans and Barcelona fans wound up. According to Guillem Balague via Twitter, no deal has been agreed by LFC and he stated that our stance has not changed.

Per the Echo, Barcelona did not meet with our officials to do a deal and no new bid has been made and no bid has been accepted. Klopp and FSG are standing firm.

On the contrary per German outlet Bild, Barcelona officials went to Germany yesterday to do a deal for Dembele of BVB but Dortmund want reportedly 150m euros hence, almost 3/ 4 of the Neymar money. Sky Sports have daid the exact same things. This is the situation as it stands.

4.) 09 Aug 2017 13:45:52
There are also reports that Coutinho is feigning injury and has not got a back injury and is not willing to train with the club. It's all nonsense with each journalist trying to guess the breaking story to look like the knew what was happening. kind of like half on here when they were claiming to be itk in Keita and gave us numerous dates he was going to join. Some even changed their usernames 🙈🙈.

01 Aug 2017 02:48:34
Hi EDs, it is being reported that Inter made a 35mil bid for Mane. Not sure how true but I reckon it is fake news as 35mil for Mane is a joke in today's market. It would be a waste of everybody's time if it was true. They might have better luck bidding 35mil for Sakho :)

DAPred

{Ed001's Note - it is nonsense, why would a team bid less than we paid for him? Unless it means pounds not euros, in which case they work in euros, so it is clearly nonsense anyway. Just ignore it, the player is not available for sale.}

1.) 01 Aug 2017 04:40:53
Cannot believe Inter's cheek (if a bid has been made in the first place) . Or the media is just being incompetent as always.

2.) 01 Aug 2017 06:02:25
Ah so this is what it feels like to be a Southampton fan during the transfer window 😉.

3.) 01 Aug 2017 07:06:53
Media see a team struggling to recruit and there best player linked elsewhere and jump on the band wagon as if we are a sinking ship.

Inter haven't even got champions league have they. The competition everyone wants to play in.

4.) 01 Aug 2017 07:40:52
Leeee that's a good question. We've been told for years that the top players didn't come to us because they wanted to play in the CL. This window however doesn't back that statement up.

5.) 01 Aug 2017 08:23:04
Jayden how hasn't it backed that up.? Salah, Van Dijk, Keita are all in that top bracket of players and want to or are playing for us. its other reasons we haven't got them all. i think macca said even Mendy was willing to come to us. the clubs dealings is the major issue this window and other bad past dealings effecting our chance of getting Sessegnon from Fulham, not the players themselves wanting to play for us.

6.) 01 Aug 2017 10:35:48
But yet salah is the only one that's signed.

7.) 01 Aug 2017 12:45:46
If we finish top four this year ( or win it which I'm optimistic about ) maybe higher than 4th. I think any players reluctant to talk with us will change tune. Could be seen, by outsiders, as a one off this year. Any player joining a top English team is taking a bit of a gamble in terms of champions league these days.

8.) 01 Aug 2017 13:15:28
It is, perhaps, the worst transfer article I've ever seen a paper come up with. At least make it £50m or something even remotely believable (I'm not valuing him at that price before I get a ton of abuse) . As Ed said, why would a club bid less/ equal to what we paid?! He had a superb season last year. It's either invented from thin air or inter are worse than us at negotiations.

9.) 01 Aug 2017 16:30:31
Smurf out of the 3 players you named we've signed 1 of them. Good point that mate.

10.) 01 Aug 2017 23:08:28
U obviously didn't understand wat im saying mate. its not about the players wanting to join us cos all of them have been willing to. its other reasons why the others haven't joined.

11.) 04 Aug 2017 04:48:51
Its from the Express basically the 90minsdotcom of the newspaper world. If they told me grass was green I wouldn't believe them.

16 Apr 2015 08:27:32
hi Eds, I read that Arsenal are also interested to sign Milner. I'm sure they will have the upper hand if it is true as they are almost guaranteed a CL spot. Any truth in the rumour?

DAPred

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest from them.}

1.) 16 Apr 2015 09:23:36
No one else showing real intetest at this stage then ed? I think he would be a good addition if we can get him, do you?

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City were looking for James Milner to agree a new contract but they accepted that he won't. There is interest from Valencia (although I think they have now moved on), Roma (with rekindled interest), Inter and from Liverpool - his wage demands might be an issue.}

24 Aug 2023 03:38:54
Since the start of the transfer window, the main focus was on midfielders. Even more so after we lost Fab and Hendo. Although I'm pleased to see that we've signed Mac and Dom early, I feel that we've wasted too much time to get our business done early. I hope we don't forget to strengthen our backline because as is, either our current crop of players need to step up or we're screwed. We've seen that as much we said we'll learn from mistakes, but things are pretty much the same. We still get caught out and our tactics are pretty much the same. I'm not saying a new defender will fix our problems instantly, but I do feel we need a RB cover for Trent.

So Eds, do you think we still have time to get a defender in?

DAPred

1.) 24 Aug 2023 05:58:07
I think Bradley and Gomez are the cover for RB. If we’re going to a proper back 3 we’ll need a LCB but I hope we just stick with a back 4 and play Robbo/ Tsimikas as I think they’re both great.

2.) 24 Aug 2023 08:34:29
We have a very able squad.

Not the deepest but one of the best in quality.

Like in all walks of life practice makes perfect, lack of practice can reveal temporary cracks.

There is nothing in football that compares to competitive “practice” I. e. real game time.

Some of the guys being named regularly as “not good enough” are IMO. They are no different to the pilot needing flying hours the surgeon needing surgery hours the accountant needing to compile a few balance sheets etc.

I’m not going to name them as it is pretty much all those that the so call fans are so quick to scoff at yet applaud next minute (or vice versa) .

They’d go to a Brighton, a Fulham, a Palace, ply their trade and, ultimately, be likley wrek in week out starters. These are teams that are exceeding expectations even when they lose what might have been considered “their best players”.

They don’t all have as good in their first 11 in all positions as we actually have in squad.

Klopp and Liverpool know this and so would be quite right to ignore all of the noise from fans about needing signings and go about it as they are.

I prefer to say I’d “like” a couple more signings - but wouldn’t we always want that if it is likely to improve depth and cover etc? And wouldn’t Klopp too?!

If we do or we don’t in this next week sign a player or 2 please realise that what we have is one that can compete at the top it is the tactical usage of what we now have that we should leave to a very able management team. We should get behind our squad every one of them!

YNWA.

3.) 24 Aug 2023 08:34:41
I don't think we are signing a defender this season. If that was the case Tsmiskas and Robertosn to a good deal would have been sold by now. The hybrid system doesn't facilitate the need of a full back. Its no rocket science.

4.) 24 Aug 2023 09:15:41
Tsimikas needs to go I think. Nothing against him and I actually think he’s a good player but with our non HG players at near max I think we need to trim where we can. Tsimikas would fetch a good price for a backup player. It would be great if he had a FB that could cover both sides for when Trent and Robertson are out. Gomez can do it and perhaps Bradley as well.

5.) 24 Aug 2023 10:10:24
We still have 8 days before we can fully judge the window. However, it is safe to say, it is not going according to plan.

We're definitely short of a defensive midfielder and a centreback. There's no way of dressing that up.

6.) 24 Aug 2023 10:35:19
DAPred, We are covered at RB with Bradley and Gomez. At CB? I don't know if that is going to happen but I hope it does happen. Another mid and a CB would be a very good window for me as it takes care of all the needs we had going into the window. Hopefully, this will happen.

7.) 24 Aug 2023 10:42:42
@FPF, we have Endo, Baj, Macca, Thiago and TAA who can play DM. What you are saying (and I agree with you) is that we don’t have a DM with the ‘x’ factor. I suspect the DM will be Andre in January. I think we’ll sign Gravenberch will be signed in this window to add depth to the squad.

I’m hoping that the CB, if we sign one, is Hincapie - left footed, left sided defender, young and seemingly bags of potential. Not sure I’ll get my wish though.

8.) 24 Aug 2023 11:03:29
WDW, we need to win duels and make interceptions in midfield. It's as simple as that. I don't care who does it but they need to have the physical ability to just get on with and win those duels and make those interceptions.

On Hincapie, I think reports have said they will consider an "immoral" offer. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.

I find it interesting that if we are fully committed to this new system then why did we sit back and watch Gvardiol, Ndicka, Van Der Ven and Lukeba go elsewhere and nor make an attempt to sign Inacio? Or maybe we are not actually 100% committed to this system?

Hincapie and Theate could still fit the bill but they might be very difficult deals to do at this late stage.

If we intend to go back to 4 at the back, then you'd probably make a case for a RCB.

9.) 24 Aug 2023 11:45:12
WDW, the Gravenberch "fuss" at Bayern is all about his not getting enough playing time there. In essence being a squad player. So I don't see him coming to us unless he is offered assurances and guarantees about playing time. And if the club offered him such, it would be a grave mistake, in my opinion. I'm not convinced he's the "midfield destroyer" we need. More of a floating "No.8". And I wouldn't bring him in to back up Mac Allister and Szoboszlai either with Elliott, Jones and Thiago around.

10.) 24 Aug 2023 11:46:44
Maybe we could write them a rude letter. That might get the job done lol.

11.) 24 Aug 2023 12:26:57
We have quite a few players who can play Dm but we also have quite a few players who can play Centre back be it right or left.

I think the key is having players that can play it to a certain standard.

12.) 24 Aug 2023 12:52:06
Jk did we not learn about taking from Peter to pay Paul a few seasons back when we wouldn’t purchase a cb?

13.) 24 Aug 2023 12:54:26
FPF. What a load of crap lad. You writing off endo before he’s played a full game for us but you would also be happy with van der ven who wasn’t even heard of until smadtke got us linked to him. Why would you give him a chance but not endo? From his little cameo and from what has been said about him your not prepared to give him time. I give up.

14.) 24 Aug 2023 13:06:40
Jay I agree and that was actually my point even though I’ve probably not articulated it.

WDW correctly pointed out that we have players who can play Dm and I’ve just added we also have plenty of players who can play CB but all offer a different level of ability in there.

For us to challenge at the very top then you need the best quality in the spine of the team. I think we have a squad that is capable of challenging top 4 but not the title.

15.) 24 Aug 2023 13:27:36
scouse john - when did I write off Endo or claim that I would be happy with VDV?

I will support any player we sign.

Doesn't change the fact that recruitment has been shambolic for 6 windows now or that we're short of a defensive midfielder and a centreback.

As for Schmadtke, a temporary hire asked to come out of retirement to fill a role that has been open for 6 months prior. You get what you plan/ don't plan for.

16.) 24 Aug 2023 15:23:11
@FPF, I don't get it. You agree we have Endo and Baj who can play DM yet in a previous post say, we are short of a DM. So do you want a "rd DM to come in esp. with Endo signed for 4 years and Baj needing to play games as well? How can you say you want to give Endo and Baj a chance yet say we are short a DM? Pls, make that make sense. Im only using your logic here.

@MetroRed, I fully agree with all you have said. Even tho we sign the two players that we need at CB and in midfield, many would still say they would like a couple more. Happens all the time and nothing wrong with that either. Allow the club to do it's work and then, see what happens cos at the end of the day, these signings have to perform regardless of who they are.

17.) 24 Aug 2023 15:33:42
FPF I shouldn’t of said your talking crap ( even tho you are) it’s rude, I’m sorry. Your saying we are short of a dm when we just signed one. We can only play 1 if we’d of got caicedo instead would we still need another? Baj has now got to be the back up or what’s the point? And if we really need mac/ Jones / Trent can cover. My vdv point was you be prepared to take him ( a unknown, as is endo) but not need a back up for him. Enjoy your weekend lad.

18.) 24 Aug 2023 15:43:22
Sorry by "rd, I meant 3rd.

19.) 24 Aug 2023 16:06:48
Guys, we are short of a DM. Even the club thinks so as it's still trying to sign Cheick Doucoure. Don't argue with me, call Jurgen. :)

I have said my piece about having any kind of dependency on young Bajcetic on here many times. He needs time to grow into his body.

20.) 24 Aug 2023 16:35:52
@FPF, that may be true that we are in for Doucoure ut that does not mean we are short a DM, IMO. There is nothing wrong with being in for a DM right now while having a senior DM like Endo in the door. Things are not that simple nor are they that binary.

It could mean that we are trying to do a deal for Doucoure but if Palace are going to try to screw us with the price (cos they don't need to sell), we can walk away knowing we have Endo and Baj already in the squad so no need to get all desperate and take our time with Andre still being a real option in January. That's the way I see it.

08 Aug 2019 14:35:42
I guess there's only outs and no more incoming players. Hopefully our players will remain fit, in form and have no suspensions to deal with. Let's Go!

DAPred

1.) 08 Aug 2019 15:03:35
We should be OK in terms of suspension as we've finished top for Fair Play in every full season under Klopp. I am concerned if we were to run into long term injuries to either TAA or Robertson, but I'm also optimistic about the youngsters we have ready to fill the void, we won't really know if they're ready until we give them a go. Can't wait for tomorrow!

2.) 08 Aug 2019 15:33:16
Fabinho will get a few.

06 Apr 2018 02:56:19
IMO, ideally I would want a really stable core of players and if we can reach a stage where we just need to upgrade 1 or 2 players every transfer window, that will be the best.

As much as we're doing good so far, the team is far from flawless. I would assume that there will be a couple of ins and outs and tinkering to take place. Ultimately, I hope with our CL progression and hopefully being in the top 4 again will help us get the players we want and need.

Most of the players that are rumoured to leave such as Migs, Moreno, Ward or Lovren/ Matip does not bother me one bit. I would have hoped that Can will stay but I'm resigned to the fact that he has probably played his last game for the club. The important thing is to get upgraded replacements. So far Klopp's transfers have been pretty spot on. So, he has my vote of confidence.

Again, just because we got so far in the CL and we're doing quite well in the Prem League this season does not really show that we have enough depth in the squad. We were lucky that Coutinho's sale did not backfire and we've been able to deal with injuries so far. But with the injury list growing, hopefully the owners will see that we need some more reinforcements in the summer.

17 Aug 2017 03:44:22
Hi EDs, Barca's General Manager is openly saying that Coutinho is 'close' to signing but FSG and Klopp has insisted that he is not for sale. If we are really not interested to accept any bid from Barca, couldn't we report Barcelona for unsettling our player with such comments?

DAPred

{Ed001's Note - unsettling our player? You really have not kept up with the situation, it is Couts that wanted to go to them. They have not needed to unsettle him as his agent has made sure to tout him to the Catalans at every opportunity, as it is the move Couts wants. We are just posturing to get the best deal.}

1.) 17 Aug 2017 05:43:15
Surely it's just a matter of time now and Barca's results against Real might make them more desperate to get the deal done asap. I understand the lure of playing for them but this could be one of their weakest teams for a while it might not turn out to be the dream move he hopes. I do wish him all the best let's hope we be very unliverpool like and spend the money wisely on top quality in positions we need.

2.) 17 Aug 2017 05:57:27
Coutinho will be going and we knew this a couple of seasons ago.

Barcelona will up the bid and he will be off, then the money will be used on van dijk and keita.

3.) 17 Aug 2017 06:03:03
I agree with you I think Barcelona are in a transitional phase, their best players over the last 5 years are all approaching 30 or older and they are not bringing through the same young players they used to. Unfortunately for him he'll be joining them at the wrong time.

{Ed001's Note - his choice to do so at the end of the day, but I do agree and I have to wonder why his advisors are not telling him the same thing.}

4.) 17 Aug 2017 06:32:18
Both Barcelona and Coutinho are about to make a massive mistake in my opinion.

5.) 17 Aug 2017 06:58:47
Having watched the game ed, I don't want Rakatic. He is all the things you said he is, slow and passive to say the least. Shows how poor they are as they had him and Gomes both off the surplus list playing. Woukd rather just the money.

{Ed001's Note - I do wonder what happened to him, he is not that old that it should have affected him yet.}

6.) 17 Aug 2017 07:29:08
He's staying at LFC 👍.

7.) 17 Aug 2017 07:29:18
To be fair to Rakitic, he's had to do the running for five extra players for three years now, so it's no wonder his legs have gone.

8.) 17 Aug 2017 07:35:14
I can't understand why anyone would want Rakitic in the deal. Would be a really bad deal. He just doesn't look like he has the legs to play in top flight competition.

9.) 17 Aug 2017 08:02:29
I agree about rakitic. Looked ineffective but so did all there players. Even messi and suarez had little effect. On the other hand how good were madrid! Luka Modric is such a classy player. One of the best for me.

10.) 17 Aug 2017 08:11:29
Is this possibly why neymar jumped ship ed, because he realised they were on the decline or was that purely about money?

{Ed001's Note - that was 100% about money.}

11.) 17 Aug 2017 08:29:34
Didn't need to watch yesterday's game to know that Rakitic is crap. He has been crap for a few seasons now and players like him, Gomez, Turan, Vidal (dross players), Masche, Pique, Alba (all over the hill) are the reasons why Barcelona will be seeing RM's dust this season and the next few to come. As for Cou, Ed has said we are just trying to get the best deal and Cou has poisoned the waters here and he will have too own that part of this saga.

12.) 17 Aug 2017 08:35:35
Ok i see, and with agents fees etc it must have turned out to be too good to resist especially with them all having problems with the tax man at Barcelona lol. Thanks ed.

{Ed001's Note - and his dad likes to get paid.}

13.) 17 Aug 2017 08:49:03
Agree 110% BingoRed. The only thing that concerns me is that we may well get close to 150 million euros, but then how do you spend that with about a week of the transfer window to go? The sensible thing would have been to do what Everton did, make the purchases that you want to make, then if you know that you are going to sell the family silver, at least you won't get mugged by all and sundry because they know you have a wallet full of cash. Every team that we then approach for players will try and rinse us if they know we are cash rich because of Coutinho. I wonder if anyone at the club has any acumen at all.

14.) 17 Aug 2017 09:38:21
"Just posturing to get the best deal". Sounds quite final ed😂🤔.

15.) 17 Aug 2017 11:18:43
Dennis, you may be correct there. The way it will be is that when Cou is finally sold, other teams will stick us for every penny of that Cou cash and we will be worse for it as we may have to overpay to get our targets, which is the worst scenario possible.

11 Aug 2017 16:34:08
Seems like the transfer request is true. Gutted that he is forcing a move away from Liverpool. I guess when clubs like Barca/ Real come knocking, it'll surely unsettle players. Just wonder why Coutinho signed a new contract without a release clause if he was looking to engineer a move away from Anfield?

As a fan, I'm utterly disappointed and I'm sure it will impact the team but we'll just have to soldier on. We've been trough this when Torres, Suarez and Sterling left. It'll take time to rebuild but there's nothing much we can do about it.

DAPred

1.) 11 Aug 2017 16:50:21
He signed it because of an increase in wages and a signing on bonus. Same thing Suarez did. It's kind of ridiculous to give such a reward to a player and then 5 months later they hand in a TR. Part of me wants to sell him and be rid, part of me doesn't want him to put the shirt on again. And part of me wants to keep him and forget all this happened in 2 months.

Based on the feedback given, it does seem like Mbappe may not have many options if he refuses to budge on his wage demands and bonuses. I know Mbappe is a very good footballer but for teams to go all out to sign him at a very high cost, it could be financial suicide if his move does not work out well. To me, that is too big a risk for a club like Liverpool. As much as we'd love to see him wearing our jersey and playing for our club, it just doesn't seem feasible under our current owners. If he ain't coming, I hope we can kill off this rumour and focus on more realistic players.

If Lavia changes his mind and wants to go to Chelsea, it is entirely up to him. Not sour grapes, but if he goes to Chelsea, he might find it more difficult to get minutes compared to Liverpool. We need a DM more than Chelsea, so if he wants to play, the choice is obvious.

As far as I know, there's more than 2 DMs in the world. Just because they had successful seasons does not automatically mean that they will be an instant hit. Sometimes the weight of their price tag can put unnecessary pressure on them to perform, especially for Caicedo. We've seen that with Pogba, Hazard, Maguire and others where they can't justify their hefty price tag.

When was the last time you heard football players are not motivated by money? Even our beloved Salah asked for more money when he signed his contract extension. But there's a difference between wanting to be paid fairly in the market vs signing with any club that's willing to pay the most.

Thanks ED002 for the latest update. Appreciate it as usual. I do hope Liverpool will not make the mistake they did last season where they spent on attackers when the midfield was the main problem area. This time around, we're putting all the focus on midfielders which seems right but we should not forget about our defense.

It is easy to criticize him and call him a man with no morals but he's almost at the end of his playing career and this move could be his last chance to get a big pay. If Liverpool offered him 500k/ week I'm sure he'll choose to stay but the reality is the wage difference is too huge to ignore. Also, he's just doing his job as a footballer and he's not causing any harm to anyone. If you look at it another way, we'll have to let him leave on a free soon anyway. Why not let him go when we can still get something out of it.

Thanks for the reply Ed001, so in that case we can bury all the Pulisic and Aubameyang rumours. Not like we were going to sign him anyway :)

{Ed001's Note - he wouldn't sign Aubameyang anyway, he is a problem to deal with that Klopp simply would not want. You know he missed a Champions League game this season because he was out on the lash in Milan instead don't you?}
