How would people feel about Tierney as a signing for the defence?

In our new system, the LB effectively plays like Tierney does for Scotland, and he's never put a foot wrong for Scotland.

I know he's not had the greatest injury record, but he's a talented player and probably available for a decent price.

Rugby Parker

{Ed001's Note - no point he can't and won't stay fit and he takes time to get his form back after each injury.}

1.) 06 Aug 2023 02:14:25
Awful referee and hates us anyway. No thanks.

2.) 07 Aug 2023 08:04:40
Wow, now that went down like a lead balloon.

Just read that Alexis Mac Allister has a brother called Kevin who plays in Argentina.

I think we should sign him too. Not only would it help Alexis settle, but he'd already have his own song, "You'll Never Walk (Home) Alone"!

Rugby Parker

1.) 08 Jun 2023 13:45:45
We (Ireland) missed the boat on Alexis. Perhaps the name Alexis threw us off the scent of his irishness but there's no excuse to miss out on a guy called Kevin Mac Allaister. FAI should sign him up for next game and cap him immediately.

I will google him now to see if he s any good.

2.) 08 Jun 2023 16:34:39
I've heard he's very cunning and a bit of a trickster Davey, very hard to catch and he goes missing on away trips.

{Ed025's Note - love it Top G..

3.) 08 Jun 2023 20:38:04
We already signed his older brother Gary.

4.) 08 Jun 2023 22:12:59
He's a Mac not a Mc @ Davey. SFA should have been after him.

5.) 09 Jun 2023 00:30:34
Wasn’t Kevin supposed to be on the plane to the with Alexis and his dad?

Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on here, but congratulations to Luton for getting promotion, I love a proper underdog being in the PL, they've done brilliantly, and it will be fun seeing the big time Charlie's playing at Kenilworth next season.

Rugby Parker

1.) 28 May 2023 10:09:10
Definitely away tickets people want to try and get.

2.) 28 May 2023 10:55:28
Unbelievable! I'd give Luton a massive swerve! I'd rate it as the worst place I've ever been.

3.) 28 May 2023 11:08:35
one of our bogey teams back in the day.

4.) 28 May 2023 11:32:37
Marty, that for me would be Birmingham ?.

5.) 28 May 2023 11:49:25
Ha ha MK. tbf that is a very close second. Luton is a massive hole.

6.) 28 May 2023 12:00:18
Pinched this. Too funny not to share.

Excited to see Var work at Luton next season.

On field referee walking into the living room of one of the houses on Kenilworth road and rewinding the incident on sky plus.

7.) 28 May 2023 12:33:17
Saw that JK too funny lol.

8.) 28 May 2023 14:02:29
If you’ve never seen Luton away stand, take a look ?
The fact you have to enter through basically somebody’s front door. Then proceed through their back garden to enter the stadium is full on fantastic.

9.) 28 May 2023 15:44:57
I drive past the Luton stadium on a regular basis - sh*thole.
I remember driving past it the morning after Xabi's "own half of the pitch goal" back in 2005/ 6 and it was just the same hovel then.
Congratulations to them, it'll be interesting to see if they manage to stay up.

10.) 28 May 2023 16:33:26
Birmingham is relatively a paradise compared to Luton.
Its only redeeming feature is a rather excellent chippy called the wigmore.

11.) 28 May 2023 19:51:45
I was up at Birmingham's ground late last year, it's an urban paradise compared to Luton.
Luton is just a massive Poundland.

12.) 28 May 2023 19:55:24
Went to Luton away in the eighties and it was horrible. Nothing has changed,

13.) 28 May 2023 20:53:45
JK23 - ???.

14.) 28 May 2023 20:56:01
Congrats to Luton, ideed. Not sure I have seen them play in the PL since they went down decades ago.

15.) 28 May 2023 20:59:34
TBF Luton needed this and I think they will be a bit like Wimbledon back in the day, so I suspect Brentford West Ham Fulham and the other London based teams will not be looking forward to visiting the Ken, I know we had trouble beating them on that astroturf, could be replacing Everton mind you is Goodison any better than the Ken.

16.) 28 May 2023 21:14:14
Just read an article that suggests that they would not be allowed to play in the Premier League as of now. Due to stadium inadequacies and safety issues, lighting inadequacies and insufficient place and infrastructure for broadcasting equipment required. So they basically have 3 months to bring their stadium up to standard. Or share somebody else's.

17.) 28 May 2023 22:39:29
I think they are going to use MK Don's stadium.

18.) 29 May 2023 11:42:18
Bit rude about Luton and Birmingham when Liverpool is just as bad if not worse in some parts.

19.) 28 May 2023 19:51:45

I'm going to call it right now (based on absolutely no inside information) that we're going to sign Sander Berge tomorrow, and it'll be a decent transfer. Comes in with a chance to cement a place in an unsettled/ out of form midfield, relatively low fee, and at 24, if he doesn't push on, we'd get a decent fee for him a couple of years down the line.

Feel free to discuss, although let's try and not immediately descend into player and club bashing, keep it well thought out and civil please.

Thanks to Ed's in advance of transfer deadline day madness!

Rugby Parker

1.) 31 Jan 2023 03:49:32
I don’t think we are signing anyone, seems like the club has decided to limp on as it is and accepted this season is already a write off.

2.) 31 Jan 2023 04:14:12
He is the midfield equivalent of Lampard to management.
Injury prone too, so your probably right, the season continues to get worse.

3.) 31 Jan 2023 05:27:57
good don't sign anyone. work with the players we have and those coming back from injury.

4.) 31 Jan 2023 06:27:59
On a plus note a lot of our current crop of players form and performances can’t get any worse. Yes it can continue but it can’t get worse.
I envisage the rest of this season being just as frustrating with a few false Dawn Performances and also some more poor results and performances.

For me though signing a player like Berge isn’t going to change anything. Just like the other last min panic buys Arthur, Kabak, Carroll, Davies and Caulker etc didn’t.

5.) 31 Jan 2023 06:51:00
Shughes what defines injury prone? Because I believe he missed 1 game of football this year but has been ever present for Sheffield, last year I believe he missed 13 games but played 34 so he’s able to average 30-40 games a season I don’t call that injury prone, I’m all for saying a player isn’t good enough etc but to lump him as injury prone is unfair.

I think he’ll go to newcastle tbh for around 30 million.

6.) 31 Jan 2023 08:28:07
The last thing we need is more poor players that we can’t shift on. Berge isn’t good enough. Might aswell keep Arthur while we’re at it.

7.) 31 Jan 2023 08:28:50
Even ox played 29 games last season. so u can take a guess abt the number 34.

8.) 31 Jan 2023 08:29:36
Even if he’s not injury prone that will change once he signs for us!

9.) 31 Jan 2023 08:29:47
Deadline day madness?
Non stop whinging and moaning more like. 16 hours of hand wringing, knicker wetting and multiple predictions of the club's demise and eventual total doom.

10.) 31 Jan 2023 09:47:27
Not being able to get any worse is a plus note, JK23? ?
I don't think Carroll was a last minute panic buy. He was a bad buy, though.

11.) 31 Jan 2023 10:09:13
Rigsby didn’t we go in for Carroll last minute with the Torres money?

12.) 31 Jan 2023 13:51:47
You tell me, JK.
We signed him on the last day, I think, but does that make him a last minute panic buy?

13.) 31 Jan 2023 14:47:12
Perhaps we really wanted him for 30 days but decided to wait until the 31st as we didn’t have a locker for him in the changing room ??‍♂️.

I suppose breaking your transfer record (I think it was might be wrong) with only a few hours to go in a 31 day window will be seen by some as shrewd business and by others as panic.

14.) 31 Jan 2023 15:49:37
So you don't know that he was a last minute panic buy, JK23?
Ok, mate; I didn't think you did.

15.) 31 Jan 2023 16:37:00
Rigsby I can’t really read your tone in the last comment.

I can’t tell if you’re trying to engage in general conversation or just generally being a prick.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know about that, but Carroll was 100% a last-minute panic buy as we had been rejected in bids for about 20 other strikers. He was literally the last hope of a forward in the January window. He was still injured from falling off a bar stool drunk when we signed him for heaven's sake! That shows how desperate we were to get someone in with Torres wanting out.}

16.) 31 Jan 2023 19:00:02
I'll have to take your word for that, Ed001.
Who else did we bid for, btw?

JK23, you were being a prick with your explanation of Carroll of being a last minute panic buy. I reciprocated. That's cleared my tone up for you and Ed001 has answered the question I asked you so we're ok, now.

{Ed001's Note - loads of players mate, I can't remember all of them, Ola Toivonen was one. The Spanish striker that ended up at Spurs a bit later, I forget his name. Basically we went after every big lump of a striker that was out there. Ashley demanded 35m up front, which is why we made Chelsea pay the full whack for Torres in one go.}

16 Jun 2021 10:36:30
Just for a bit of fun, and because I just thought of it after mentioning the potential Jamie Vardy movie, who would you get to play the Liverpool players of our PL-winning season in a Hollywood movie?

Unless it's obvious (Tom Selleck playing Alisson with matching 'tache, for example), I want an explanation of your choices! Since we're in fantasy land, you can use any actor from any point in their career, not just what they're like currently.

I was too eager to get this posted to think of my own, so I shall respond later!

Rugby Parker

1.) 16 Jun 2021 11:09:34
Not sure about our players but I would have Kyle Chandler to play Mauricio Pochettino. Not sure how he'd be in a film about Liverpool or Vardy though.

2.) 16 Jun 2021 11:54:01
Charlie Hunnam to play Jordan Henderson. Both are from the north east and look quite a bit like one another.

3.) 16 Jun 2021 12:06:53
Pharell williams to play gini.
Nish kumar to play salah.
Ryan reynolds to play hendo.

4.) 16 Jun 2021 12:28:03
Sloth out of the Goonies to play Wayne Rooney.
Bongo film star Ben Dover to play John Terry
Disgraced television personality Rolf Harris to play Karim Benzema.

5.) 16 Jun 2021 12:44:37
Clint Eastwood to play Virgil coz they are both so cool.

6.) 16 Jun 2021 13:01:53
Alisson - Pedro Pascal
Alexander-Arnold - Anthony Mackie
Matip - Will Smith
Van Dijk - Dwayne Johnson
Robertson - James McAvoy
Fabinho - Samuel L Jackson (shouting tackled you mother …. )
Henderson - Chris Evans
Wijnaldum - Kevin Hart
Salah - Rami Malek
Firmino - Antonio Banderas
Mané - Eddie Murphy

Klopp - Stephen Merchant.

7.) 16 Jun 2021 13:48:37

Alonso just won Leverkusen's 1st ever league title at the first time of asking and has not lost a game all season - AND it's his first full season managing a senior team. There is absolutely no way you can compare that to someone like Amorim, who is in his 2nd senior management role, has previously won the league with his team, and could bow out with a league and cup double.

Alonso made the right decision for him at the time, and I completely understand why. He also came out and said "I'm staying", whereas Amorim has said "I don't want to discuss it right now".

From a comment I read previously from Ed002, it sounded like he was implying Southampton were looking for £50m either in total or with "achievable" add-ons. Perhaps the disagreement in price relates to the structure of payment and triggers of add-ons, so not quite as straightforward as "we're bidding below the asking price" - although given our history, that wouldn't surprise me either.

I fear a tongue-lashing from Ed002, so apologies if I picked that up wrong!

Rugby Parker

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have not offered anywhere near a figure Southampton consider acceptable.}

I love this! Mean Machine is a great film, I remember going to the cinema to watch it. I'm also a big fan of the remake of The Longest Yard, although I admit I haven't seen the original.

Monk used to be great daytime tele during my baked student days!

Seems like some people only want to support a club if they are one of the richest in the world. Makes you wonder why clubs like Scunthorpe have any fans at all.

Got to say I'm surprised, he really stood out in the league, thought he could have got games for a championship side at least. He must like the theme park there, there's not much else to do in Aberdeen!

Depends how you look at it ArAy. If a United fan tried to gloat about beating us this season, it's going to be pretty easy for us to put them in their place again by pointing out how helter skelter and ultimately disappointing their season has been.

If we take the lead and laugh at them for being a riot, then they can say "we're at our worst and still beat you".

I know what situation I'd prefer for my team though!

Best LB since I've been supporting Liverpool since the mid 90s, up there with the best LBs in the premier League era, plays a captain's role on the field, and a fellow Scot to boot! I love robbo, and there's plenty of life in him yet!

Oli, what will you do if it is Naglesmann that gets the job? You've never struck me as someone who would not support a manager of the club while they're in place, but you've pretty strongly nailed your colours to the mast as far as JN goes.

I also don't think you're the type to say "I told you so" if it goes wrong, so just wondering how you react if he gets the job.

For what it's worth, I actually said I wanted Amorim over Alonso (if Alonso turns out as good as everyone thinks he will be, we can perhaps get him at a later date, but replacing klopp with 18 months of management behind you is HUGE pressure, and I wouldn't want him failing and then never coming back) . Amorim seems highly rated, has really turned around a Sporting team who were dire before he took the job, and if it goes tits up after a year or 2, THEN we'll go pinch Alonso from Real Madrid. :)
