Does anyone know how ejaria is doing, how close is he to getting in the squad again. And is woodburn still too small to cut it?

Its a coming

1.) 30 Jan 2018 10:55:30
Ejaria is really impressing, as is Woodburn. They're the stand out players in the u23 team (along with the now injured Brewster) by far this season. They work off each other brilliantly as well in attacking midfield. Watch out for Adam Lewis though. Made his u23 debut a couple of days ago and much is expected of him over the next 6-18 months.

Ejaria really should be making the bench though. He turns 21 this year and we have more to gain from playing him for 10 minutes here and there, than from giving Milner those minutes. Woodburn isn't too small, he's just young. After the furore around his goal against Leeds, it is important we make sure he stays grounded. Last thing we want is another teenager who thinks he's a big time Charlie (ie, Sterling) .

{Ed001's Note - Milner gets on the bench because he can cover multiple positions, both in midfield and defence. Ejaria can't do that, so it then limits the options available if there are injuries.}

2.) 30 Jan 2018 13:51:42
Ejaria can cover DM, CM, AM and LM though Ed. No denying he can't play RB or LB like Milner can, but although Milner may be able to play in multiple positions, he can't play any of them (except maybe RM) to a Premier League standard.

Why not use Arnold off the bench in place of Milner? He can play every position Milner can play, and to a better standard. Yet for some reason, Klopp always turns to Milner 😣 Arnold even takes penalties and set pieces better than Milner does!

{Ed001's Note - not from what I have seen of him he can't. He does not look to have the ability to play anywhere but central midfield for me, well attacking mid.}

3.) 30 Jan 2018 14:15:46
That is definitely where he is best Ed. He looked a little bit lacking in terms of discipline when i saw him play a holding role. No more so than James Milner though! Looks like he's going on loan anyway so I hope he has a good 4 months at Sunderland!

10 Jan 2018 00:50:51
Im para phrasing here but danny murphy has basically said that keita is another jordan henderson and adds no creativity or power as he puts it to midfield.

I have limited experience of keita but from what i have seen he is nothing like henderson, my question really is what exactly will keita bring to the team and is murphy correct in his assessment.

Its a coming

1.) 10 Jan 2018 01:09:12
Danny Murphy is far from the brightest, to be honest. It is clear that he has never actually seen Keita play before because Henderson and Keita have very different styles.

Henderson is about breaking up play, pressing with regularity whether it is the 5th minute or 90th. He is also a decent passer of the ball, although I do agree that often his passes go backwards or sideways (Usually due to a lack of options but at times he does seem to hesitate on the ball and by then the chance to play the ball has gone. )

Keita is very capable on the ball, from what I have seen dribbling whether in tight spaces or open ones are his main strength. Keita is a difficult player to get off the ball, he can wriggle away from mounting pressure and use his pace to leave you in the dirt. He is hard working too, but from what I have seen his passing is lacking. He tends to play the short or simple pass, he never looks to play long passes or creative ones unless he has no other options, and, when he does, the pass is often overhit. I have watched a fair bit of German football and these are just a few things I have noticed. Keita is a very good player with the potential to be a main stay in the team for years to come. However, there are areas of his game he needs to work on and, with Klopp at the helm, I suspect you will see improvements over time.

Oh, also, as has become apparent this season, Keita seems to have lost his more competitive edge in matches. He does not resemble the man of last season who had a very serious case for being one of the top players in Germany. This year Keita looks disinterested, doesn't put a great deal of effort when tracking back to his position. I suspect this is because his head is already at Liverpool and he does not want to be in RBL. Not the best mentality but it is just my suspicion and not actual fact.

I hope this helps, I am lucky to watch a fair bit of German football and thought I would share my opinion on the two. As I said, Keita and Henderson are nothing alike and Danny Murphy needs to actually do his homework rather than spout absolute nonsense.

2.) 10 Jan 2018 01:17:24
Murphy is talking absolute bollocks. Keita will be the main "driver" of our midfield, picking up the ball from deep. He will be relied upon to be our main creative outlet from midfield whilst also contributing to defence, pressing of opposition etc. Keita is very very talented with an energy that perhaps can match that of Ngolo Kante. Ignore Murphy, he is the complete opposite to what Henderson has sadly become for us, Keita is a dynamo with the ability to play incisive one touch football or score from 30+ yards. Keita will be, and already is to some extent, special.

3.) 10 Jan 2018 01:34:27
He is the engine that drives the machine much like Kante.

4.) 10 Jan 2018 01:58:10
Are u serius lad? U listen to that AH? He's worse than Trump

U can find analysis of Keita's game on Youtube. There's one worth watching. After reading and watching several analysis I can conclude that he's the player we are missing in our midfield. He has a great engine, can carry the ball, likes to dribble and waltz through the midfield and if there's no better option he continues and attacks the defence, makes space for a shot and usually ends up scoring from the edge of the box. It doesn't work everytime as u can imagine.

He uses his dribbling quality and speed to that (little bit like Mane but better in terms of dribbling) . The other thing he does frequently is through balls, he always tries them and more often than not succeeds (prefers short passes so can't judge him on long passes) . He also intercepts very well as he has the ability to read the plays and also uses his speed to do that. Tackles when needed but can be reckless at times (like Dele Ali) . Not sure if I can judge his defensive work like getting back in time during opposition attacks, defending set pieces, following instructions.

Anyway, he's not a CDM neither an AM. He's really box to box with creativity, assists and goals in him. So, he's exactly the player we are missing in midfield as Can, Henderson and Gini aren't good enough or have zero creativity against EUROLINES/

Hope that helps.

5.) 10 Jan 2018 03:09:20
Danny never was the brightest.

6.) 10 Jan 2018 03:22:10
The only assessment here to be made is of Danny Murphy's mental state. Even a YouTube highlight reel will show Keita is nothing like Henderson in style of play. Keita is pacy, energetic and drives the ball from midfield to attack in no time at all. He is everything Hendo should have been.

7.) 10 Jan 2018 03:28:05
Murphy is a pundit who used to play football but has little to no knowledge of the game as a whole and who is paid to make statements that stir debate - take his guff with a pinch of salt.

8.) 10 Jan 2018 08:43:14
Thanks lads, i suspected he was sprouting for click bait. I too think keita can be something special with the right guidance. Not quite a gerrard replacement but gerrardesque in terms of box to box ability. Hopefully he regains his drive when he joins in the summer.

9.) 10 Jan 2018 08:48:26
I'm not an expert on football. I don't know how anywhere near as much as most people. But one thing I can tell you for certain - Danny Murphy as a pundit is a waste of oxygen, a man who spouts pseudo-controversial nonsense because he knows it will get him and his publications mentions and that he has absolutely nothing of greater value to add.

10.) 10 Jan 2018 09:16:10
My God listen to you all. He had an opinion and its the wrong one, but he's a good pundit, is actually very sharp and knowledgable, and had a cracking career here, we cluld definitely do with him now as he's twice the player can is. Show a little respect.

11.) 10 Jan 2018 09:58:05
Murphy clearly doesn’t watch any football outside of the premier league.

12.) 10 Jan 2018 11:08:08
"Keita isn't as creative as Mascherano"
"Keita is like Henderson"
"Liverpool need a 20+ goal striker" (ignores Salah's 17 goal tally)

He has lost the plot.

13.) 10 Jan 2018 11:10:16
ChampMan it's not just one bad opinion but three, and they are all baffling.

14.) 10 Jan 2018 12:25:25
From what I've seen which is admittedly limited, he's been nothing special to watch, being rather badly disciplined and hasn't shone in their team. That is purely what i've seen of the 5 or 6 games I've tuned into.

Is he actually as good as everyone on here seems to think? Honest question as I haven't watched him week in week out. Anyone on here watch the Bundesliga regularly?

15.) 10 Jan 2018 15:01:04
DeanW, I can gurantee you that Keita is special. He is much better than our current midfield options. Keita had the likes of Barca, Arsenal, Bayern all interested in his signature. Whilst this season he has been rash and not quite hit the performances of last year (which was a very high bar anyway) he is still young, cleanly doesn't want to be at Leipzig (which is not an excuse) and to be honest still has put in some great games this season. In short, I wouldn't worry.

{Ed025's Note - hes quality mate..

16.) 10 Jan 2018 15:29:23
Nice! Thanks for the reply tsteen!

24 Apr 2017 10:54:08
With the papers now saying real will target coutinho to replace modric how likely are we to keep hold of him this summer especially with Barcelona also waiting in the wings.

I doubt he will stay especially if we miss out on top 4 which is a real possibility if the players do not wake up and smell the opportunity in front of them. They should be super focussed and switched on at this stage of the season considering the prize at the end of it.

No doubt you are all as frustrated as me at the result yesterday but realistically what could klopp have done about it. Aside from those that started who else could he have brought in aside from the kids.

The only thing i could queation is If either of our centre backs were not 100% he maybe should have considered Gomez instead of playing injured defenders. But if you go out on the field you are able to play to even that's not an excuse.

Its a coming

1.) 24 Apr 2017 12:39:15
The 'papers' and you clearly haven't seen Modric or Real play for some time. He hasn't played as an attacking midfielder or a winger, the two areas Coutinho plays, since 2010. If Real want him, he'd be replacing James Rodriguez, Bale or Isco - not Modric.

2.) 24 Apr 2017 15:20:16
Well if they are selling and modric and replacing him with coutinho then maybe there happy with casmerio and kross in the centre and will add a new number 10.

Or thag coutinho could play alsongside one of them like everyone on here has suggested. (Playing in our cm)

{Ed002's Note - People need to get out of the mindset of like-for-like replacements.}

Quick question, is Carvalho expected to come straight into the first team squad and what will be his best or likely position. I don't expect him as a youngster to have the same impact as diaz but are there high expectations in the long term?

Its a coming

1.) 06 Jun 2022 11:09:28
Could be a new Bobby or take one of the No.8 spots! He'll be getting game time, a good player.

2.) 06 Jun 2022 12:12:46
I do wonder if there's a slight tweak this season and we move to see something closer to a 4231 as opposed to 433. Having one of the three assigned a little more to attack and 2 6s. In which case I could easily see Carvalho in the 10 or backup to Diaz on the left. Or he could play an 8 too perhaps. Can't wait to see him in a Liverpool shirt. He s an exciting player but it's a big step up. I'm hoping he adapts quickly but I'm prepared to give him time. We definitely have one of the best young players in England on our hands here. Hopefully Elliott is ready to kick back into gear this season also after his bad injury. And please guys, don't give up on Jones just yet. I'm disappointed in his season too this year but he has so much talent. There's a real star there. More patience needed. Just because it's taking more time than we like doesn't mean he doesn't get there.

3.) 06 Jun 2022 12:20:10
Seems like a versatile player - could play left side 8, left forward or even a false 9 position.

If we do sign a more traditional no9 this summer then I'd like us to evolve to a 4231 formation and have Bobby, Elliot and Carvalho vie for a no10 position and challenge them to chip in with some goals and assists.

The change in system might not suit Salah as it may force him wider than he'd like to be but we do need change.

4.) 06 Jun 2022 12:39:55
I do expect him to come straight into the first team SQUAD and then probably get a few chances in the first half of the season - a bit live Harvey did at the start of last season.

Interested to see where he will play - I reckon, to start off with, Klopp may try him both in midfield and attack (mix it up a little) to see where he eventually settles. A bit like Stevie at the start of his career.

5.) 06 Jun 2022 13:17:04
Agree with zed, probably some trial and error to find his most effective position. Don't see the couts comparison but hope he can fulfil his potential. Its why I think may not replace mane, who I think diaz was brought in to cover and we will bring in a versatile defensive mid to cover for fab. Elliot will likely have more minutes in midfield next season too with players like ox going etc.

6.) 06 Jun 2022 15:12:25
First team squad, for sure. Not more than that that ir at least not immediately.

7.) 06 Jun 2022 17:51:35
Why do we need change Pelican?

8.) 06 Jun 2022 23:46:42
Flash - because we are becoming more predictable.

9.) 07 Jun 2022 10:23:53
Every season there is talk of a change in formation lol and Klopp trots out the same formation with slight tweaks. This season it was incorporating Trent more centrally (to our detriment sometimes imo) . Next season it could be just that Carvalho brings the skill set that can get us back to playing that Bobby type of #9 role from years ago. Who knows, but what seems less likely is that Klopp will up end the system.

05 Oct 2020 08:33:39
Every Liverpool player who took part in that game needs to be reminded what sort of club they represent. Quite frankly some would never wear the shirt again if it was up to me so thankfully its not because we would have ended up playing a mix of the U21 team and those that were not involved in the debacle against Everton just to make a point. I bet they would put up a better fight against an average villa funking side.

Its a coming

{Ed025's Note - you have not turned into a bad side overnight IAC, it was a one off and should be treated as such, there will be a reaction against everton you can mark my words mate..

1.) 05 Oct 2020 08:51:25
Yeah, thankfully you aren't and will never be a football manager.

2.) 05 Oct 2020 09:32:20
Klopp is PISSED of, man. And we all know what we are like when we are pissed off.

3.) 05 Oct 2020 10:41:10
You are right ed, its just really embarrassing, but more importantly how are you doing fella?

{Ed025's Note - i have just come through coronavius IAC but am well now mate, how are you doing my friend?

4.) 05 Oct 2020 11:34:09
Haha Salah, sadly you are right, I will never be a fm lol. Ed I'm really pleased to hear you have come through CV and hopefully relatively unscathed, could not do without you on this site.

Well apart from the psychological effects of the game last night lol I'm truly thankful to be healthy and able to support my family, with my dad currently in hospital it brings a lot of things into perspective. Usually Lfc brings some respite to the harsh realities of life and in the main i can't really complain too much about them. Hopefully as you say, it was just a bad day at the office.

{Ed025's Note - cheers mate, i think it was..

18 Sep 2020 19:56:42
Funny how things and perspectives can change so quickly. I bet no one is worrying about missing out on werner now. Thiago alone would have sated my appetite for a quality addition this window but jota is the cream on top of the cherry on top of the triple layer chocolate cake.

All this activity must also mean the club has made progress on selling fringe players, interesting to see who stays and who goes.

Its a coming

1.) 18 Sep 2020 20:25:40
I think it's funny how people were getting their knickers is a twist with weeks still left in the transfer window. Fans have no patience these days and want everything instantly, its embarrassing the amount of moaning that goes on from people that support the best team in the country.

2.) 18 Sep 2020 20:57:40
My knickers were twisted now they are fitting like a glove!

3.) 18 Sep 2020 21:45:02
In spite of what FSG have done, some will still never be patient cos they are too busy getting distracted by what other teams are doing w/ o ever thinking of why other teams approach their own recruitment. I bet you next season, this will happen again even if we win the league.

4.) 18 Sep 2020 22:46:04
Too b honest meister it would be nice for the transfer window too be closed it's a distraction, but you can't help being excited .
Lallana has left we have replaced him with thiago
Shaq doesn't play replaced by jota .
Quality left back needed we got tsimikas.
It was needed as the manager has thought also .

14 Sep 2020 16:52:09
I have to say I'm surprised by the response to the last game, I came on expecting people to say what a great game and advert for football.

Yes mistakes were made but I regard these first few games in the same light at pre season games where we are still working on shape and building up match fitness.

I enjoyed the way the boys played with freedom and a smile on their face and I enjoyed Leeds who made it a proper game. At no point did I think we would lose, i always felt we had another gear if required. Obviously we will have to tighten up, but I'm sure they will analyse and fix the issues.

Its a coming

1.) 14 Sep 2020 17:06:24
Some people don't know how to enjoy a good game of football.

2.) 14 Sep 2020 17:12:20
I was just pleased to see Salah looking so sharp so early in the season. Who ever Chelsea put on him next week will not be looking forward to it.

3.) 14 Sep 2020 17:16:45
I felt confident until the last equaliser. After that it could've gone either way. But tbf, fabhino made a massive difference when he came on. Really limited Leeds opportunities.

There were good signs though. I think the front 3 looked dynamic and dangerous.

Everyone predicted a tough game but we're surprised when it turned out to be just that.

Only one thing matters - 3 points.

4.) 14 Sep 2020 17:42:37
If we can beat Chelsea at the bridge, it’s arguably the 2nd/ 3rd toughest game of the season done. and 6 points on the board before City even kick a ball. Get that pressure on early.

5.) 14 Sep 2020 18:12:16
I thought Jones and Fab made a massive difference.

6.) 17 Sep 2020 07:50:18
Spot on, OP and Robbie. Did I enjoy the game? A bit BUT not too much for obvious reasons. I knew it would be a great test for us cos Leeds are as advertized and Klopp himself knew that and said so in his pre-match and post match comments.

Nothing I saw was a surprise regarding Leeds. Could we have played better? I don't really know cos our defence alone looked out of synch with TAA having NO preseason at all and with Hendo having no preseason either due to injury, the midfield was out of whack as well. Apart from Salah on an individual level, the performance was disjointed for the most part.

Having said that, I liked that we created chances, shut Leeds down to one shot on target in the second half and piled on the pressure near the end and forced a winning goal. That is why I am happy with the game cos our winning/ fighting mentality has not changed one bit.

10 Jul 2019 10:03:52
I have a genuine question for ed 25, i was watching a documentary on YouTube which oddly claimed pele was overated because he scored a large proportion of his goals in exhibition matches and apparently there were no decent defenders in his time. He odly went on to say he was instrumental in changing the game and was the grandfather of football?

Anyway, do you agree with that assertion? and as an aside, he also mentioned there were no red and yellow cards up until the late sixties. So how were bad challenges and clear penalties etc punished?

If pele was playing for years without that protection doesn't that make his achievements that much more impressive and NOT overated?

I was going to ask ed01 and feel free to answer if you want but I realised ed25 was 150yrs old so more appropriate 😀.

Its a coming

{Ed025's Note - pele was the best player ever of that there is no doubt, players were booked and sent off without any cards shown bookings being the players name put in a book by the ref, but rash challenges were just part and parcel of the game and players like tommy smith and jimmy case used to basically assault opponents without much retribution, i am quite old IAC but still a babe magnet in woolton mate.. :)

1.) 11 Jul 2019 09:40:21
I was 10 years old in 66 and it was the first time I saw Pele. He already had the tag as the best player in the world aged 26. He certainly looked good to me however GOAT is subjective. I have seen some amazing players over the years and Cruyff stood out to me for a long time until I watched Ronaldinho then Messi. Dalglish also stood out as did Frank Worthington and Stan Bowles. George Best, Tefilio Cubicles, George Hadji, Michel Platini, Roberto Baggio, Kaka, Figo, Zidane. Most of the above could be named GOAT. Best Premier League player Ryan Giggs. Best Liverpool Premier league player? Stevie G. of course.

2.) 11 Jul 2019 13:40:02
You should look up an Argentinian bloke who played in the 80s, Langland. His name was Diego something or other. I reckon he might pip Frank Worthington on your list of Top Players That Are Nearly As Good As Maradona.

3.) 11 Jul 2019 11:08:31
Thanks ed, much appreciated, I'm sure you are quite the catch down at the retirement village. 😂.

{Ed025's Note - were talking trendy bars not the local derby and joan club IAC.. :)

{Ed0666's Note - I just don’t see why all the hate for him mate. I don’t think playing Couts off the bench or in the FA cup, dead rubbers in champions league, caraboa cup etc would be a problem? I know he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I loved him and wouldn’t mind seeing him back for a season. Under klopp he’d work hard this time round.

I guess the bowen interest is due to our issue with home grown players, Hoppe is lacking experience for me and one for the future. Has good composure in front of goal but have not watched him extensively so don't know how much he contributes in transition and build up.

Out of that group Sarr would be my choice, has that x factor, even though he looks raw at times he is effective. But we shall see, I still think Jota will step up next season and ed01s favourite kiddie could also have a big breakout season if he doesn't go out on loan again.

Spot on grino and his legs have been going for a couple of seasons now, his electric pace that gave him that advantage one on one has gone now. He has adapted obviously but its time to rebuild now and I put Salah in the same category although I would keep him for another season whether or not he signs an extension, as his goals could make the difference for us next season. No animosity towards either of them though, they are employees who have decided to move on, no problem with that at all.

Many tines over, we have seen players step up and take responsibility when a big name leaves and I expect the same in this situation from the likes of Diaz and to some extent the youngsters like Elliot and Cavalho to make a claim for his spot in the team.

Tbf he never was mr personality but I would tip stevie to be a much better manager than lippy Frank all day long. Klopp mentored him well and he is showing great promise so far.

Frank maybe got his big chance too early at Chelsea so stepping down to Everton might be just the job for him. 😉 sorry ed25, you know I love ya.
