I am seeing lots of reports of a breakthrough in the Wirtz deal. Any truth or news on this?
1.) 04 Jun 2025 21:21:01
Seem to be reported by Lewis Steele, Daily Mail journo, who says he is hearing it from "two different sources" that the deal with Wirtz is 99% done and the deal with Leverkusen has had a breakthrough.
Our sources here - Carra, Akira and Thefields - all seem unanimous that its just a matter of when. Probably complicated by him being on Intl duty until the end of the week.
Sounds like it's going to happen, but Kerkez may be official first as he doesn't join up for international duty until Friday whereas Wirtz is already with the Germany squad.
The last paragraph is just my view, though.
2.) 04 Jun 2025 21:26:33
No messing this one up . My word, the grief Hughes was getting from the keyboard warriors shows how who's problem that was.
3.) 04 Jun 2025 23:58:29
There was another poster who supposedly has a connection to Wirtz family that said recently that deal with Leverkusen was already done and that the family (Wirtz' agents) are working on finalizing the deal.
4.) 05 Jun 2025 00:12:30
Ah yes, that was Sourkraut, IIRC.
5.) 05 Jun 2025 04:47:38
Vango -
So if we sign Wirtz and few others, does it mean Hughes, Edwards get a clean sheet for last year shortcomings?
Still can't understand Marma signing honestly. Leave alone Chiesa.
10M for TAA all forgotten when his actual value is
When team does good, we appreciate and when they perform bad, we criticize them.
Same logic applies to the transfer team. They are not above criticism just because they manage to get Wirtz deal done.
You don't have to repeatedly downgrade the supporters for calling out Hughes and trasnfer team as keyboard warriors.
We are all in the same boat.
Cheers.
6.) 05 Jun 2025 06:16:20
Sami - were there shortcomings last summer? Been reported that slot wanted to assess the squad before making any decisions, that strategy whether true or not worked out ok and many pundits have praised that approach when he could have ripped up the team to put his stamp on it.
As for TAA only leaving for 10m the failure to tie him to long contract or sell was not on their watch, it sounds like the club made numerous contract offers which he rejected so as to run contract down and leave on a free, yes they could have sold last summer if there was clear indication that he wouldn’t sign an extension but I’d say 10m for a month was good in circumstances
Mama - the club clearly didn’t see Kelleher as a full time Ali replacement and he wanted first team football so they purchased who they believe can be an Ali replacement when one was available (time will tell if that’s a wise move)
Chiesa, seemed like a good player at cheap price but he’s not been given a chance, slot says he will next season so we will see.
Zubamendi deal was all done only for player to change his mind - hardly the clubs fault.
The recruiting team and manager have had a year at the club now so have to deliver in this window. The “shortcomings” last summer have left them with a sizeable budget allowing the club to shell out nearly 200m on pursuit of Wirtz, Kirkez and Frimpong in opening week of window.
Let’s see what happens during the rest….
But can’t be too critical of the transfer business last year without knowing whether lack of activity was indeed a collective decision.
7.) 05 Jun 2025 07:19:48
????.
8.) 05 Jun 2025 07:21:15
Nutter - exactly
Sam - selected brilliant new manager (see Manu and Arsenal) / PL champions / about to sign some amazing players and there are “shortcomings” (let’s hope we don’t only finish second this year heh…)
9.) 05 Jun 2025 07:51:00
The deal was finished between the club earlier. He will come to Liverpool. I watched him last night. He was good in a poor team performance.
10.) 05 Jun 2025 08:25:40
Keyboard warriors is rather apt on this occasion.
Probably more politically correct than calling them "sing when you're winning" hypocrites which is also extremely apt.
They'll show it again when we drop our first points in the upcoming season.
11.) 05 Jun 2025 08:29:22
Thanks Sourkrout. Heard a lot of German media having a go at him. But this almost feels like Bayern led to discredit him due to turning them down.
12.) 05 Jun 2025 08:32:53
OP, as has been mentioned at the start of last year’s summer window the club and Slot, on numerous occasions made specific reference to wanting to assess the squad with a fresh set of eyes (the then new coaching set up) . Given the arrival of number 20 a few weeks ago it is fair to say that the planned assessment and resultant activity worked.
Your ‘shortcomings’ are more to do with your pre-conceptions / expectations of what you thought should happen all of which had nothing to do with what the club repeatedly stated what it was actually going to do.
Of course Slot has now separated the wheat from the chaff and is actively seeking to strengthen the squad based on a year’s practical experience gained at the club with the original squad he inherited.
13.) 05 Jun 2025 08:35:51
Cheers Sourkrout, your updates have been appreciated.
Nutter, spot on.
14.) 05 Jun 2025 08:56:36
I don't know if any of these posts have been aimed at me. I was not having a go at Hughes or being a 'keyboard warrior' I was just asking if there was any news because media (social or otherwise) have given so many different 'truths' about the Wirtz situation and I tend to trust this group more than any other.
If you look at my previous posts I have been somebody who has defended Hughes and FSG.
Again if these were not aimed at me then I apologize and please ignore the above. ?.
15.) 05 Jun 2025 09:28:01
There’s no bigger or more knowledgeable fan than me and I agree with nutter. Spot on - coming from me that’s a complement!
16.) 05 Jun 2025 10:08:41
Let’s see if this deal goes through, until I see players wearing the shirt at the table signing it’s all wishful thinking.
17.) 05 Jun 2025 10:33:48
What about pictured in the panini sticker album?
18.) 05 Jun 2025 10:35:47
Wishful thinking is fanciful speculation with no basis in fact or likelihood of realisation. This is quite different from that, so that is an unfortunate use of words.
And whatever shortcomings we supposedly had in the transfer market, we won the league comfortably. So I'm not sure what the complaining is about. If chiesa comes good for us this season or gets sold for more than we paid for him, what will you have to say then?
I'm not a champion of Hughes or anything, I think we can't properly assess his work until the end of this window. But all this whining is pretty incomprehensible.
19.) 05 Jun 2025 10:43:04
It’s the same with me @Klopp4pm, I have absolutely no confidence in any skilled human doing the job they are paid for whatsoever. I spend my days just waiting for them to fail.
20.) 05 Jun 2025 11:38:40
I hope we go for number 21 this season and CL of course
What I would like the team to be is a squad of game changers when your losing and not a case of just fresh legs coming on.
21.) 05 Jun 2025 09:41:59
Thank you Sourkrout for the update.
22.) 05 Jun 2025 09:46:38
SA… Don’t think the digs were aimed at you mate. There were a few tedious, very vocal Hughes / FSG downcryers, who would pipe up with negativity when ever a rumour was floated relating to a player who’s profile they believed was out of our glorious clubs reach. Thankfully, heard less from the more tiresome ones recently.
23.) 05 Jun 2025 11:58:00
I’ve never got the criticism of Hughes. It seems there’s way too many fans getting ideas way above their station.
Surely it makes absolutely no difference who does what behind the scenes as long as we are winning? It seems that everyone gets way too involved in finances, transfers, back room staff recruitment etc instead of just enjoying the fact that we just won the league!
Football is all about winning and we are doing that so why are we even getting involved in anything else?
24.) 05 Jun 2025 13:21:41
Surely the Mamrdashvili signing makes sense now that Kelleher has gone?
I think the club was waiting on Davey's review of Wirtz' performance last night before finalising the transfer.
About the bickering between the keyboard worriers and us superfans:
It's a banter forum. We can banter and wind up each other and follow the same team, can't we?
We are not all the same because of our team. We will clash, call each other names and say 'I told you so' the same as I can have a few pints and agree with things a United fan will say.
I will probably be doing both later!
You have been warned, Salah ??.
27 May 2025 09:03:23
Any news on Wirtz deal?
1.) 27 May 2025 09:14:13
I'm sure it's still being worked on behind the scenes, but you're unlikely to see an announcement whilst the incident yesterday is still so fresh. It would be a PR disaster for the club to announce a signing so soon after what happened. The clubs active focus will be on supporting the Police and the community for the next few days I would imagine.
{Ed025's Note - im with you MK, and rightfully so..
2.) 27 May 2025 09:21:22
I agree sorry I wasn't trying to be insensitive. I am sickened by what happened yesterday wishing everyone well.
3.) 27 May 2025 10:32:53
We know you are SA. Take care mate.
4.) 27 May 2025 11:13:13
I think it would be bad PR to announce anything. There’s more important things than this. Focus should be on the aftermath of what happened right now and supporting those who were victim to the horrible events.
5.) 27 May 2025 11:24:40
Well said @Victor, horrible, horrible thing to have happened. Now’s the time to support and help those who need it most.
6.) 27 May 2025 11:42:13
SA, you're good mate. It didn't come off as insensitive at all. At the end of the day, this is a rumours site and the world keeps turning no matter what happens. Sometimes the worst thing you can do when there's been a tragedy is focus only on the darkness as, from my experience at least, I still wanted to see some light in the world when I have suffered personal loss in the past. You find yourself crying out for a normal conversation when you're actually in the thick of it.
That being said, I still think the club will tread carefully in the immediate aftermath. They've already cancelled some internal staff parties.
7.) 27 May 2025 11:58:12
Signings and celebrations can wait. The LFC community from around the world must stand, once again, with those affected. YNWA.
8.) 27 May 2025 14:19:34
Has the man said or declared anything? Do we know why he did it? Probably too soon to know given the investigation is ongoing. I'm just very curious to know what it requires to want to hurt so many people at once, wilfully. ?.
9.) 27 May 2025 15:08:25
@ArAy
From the news footage I've seen it looked like initially he was trying to drive through calmly. It also looked as though his vehicle was being hit by a couple of people. I expect the behaviour of a small number of people in the crowd had an influence on what happened next. We don't know if the driver has mental problems or a significant health condition and perhaps might have felt threatened. But because we haven't seen the full picture, hard as it might be, I think we need to be patient and calm and reserve judgement until all the facts are heard.
The only important thing at the moment is to wish anyone involved in the incident well and hope they recover quickly.
10.) 27 May 2025 15:45:18
53 year old from West Derby, Liverpool, and tests proved he was intoxicated with drink and drugs.
I hope this rat is given the most severe sentence and more so, I hope all those injured and affected make a full recovery.
God bless you all.
11.) 27 May 2025 15:51:13
Thanks MancalledHorse. I haven't seen any video of it because I wanted to purposely stay away from it. With God's grace there have been no fatalities, and we're all thankfull for that. I guess we wait and see. Time tells everything. ??.
12.) 27 May 2025 16:19:42
It's even harder to stay calm after you hear that the driver is being charged with a drug driving offense, however, again we don't know the full details so please don't speculate as to what that is. It doesn't particularly sound like it but that could be medical condition related.
He has not been charged with any drink offense so I don't know where you got that from @shughes
Anyway, some good news reported on the BBC that those still in hospital are recovering well .
"Fifty people were hospitalised and 11 of these patients remain in hospital - all are in a stable condition and "appear to be recovering well", authorities add"
13.) 27 May 2025 19:22:49
It is still going to happen. Don’t worry much.
14.) 27 May 2025 20:01:59
Hope everyone is coping after yesterday, such a horrific event after an incredible day of celebrations. Puts things into perspective and makes things bigger than football.
15.) 27 May 2025 21:33:44
Only for the Grace of God we could have been looking at many, many fatalities from yesterday's celebrations, the young reds girl supporter was trapped under the vehicle with three other reds supporters when fellow reds supporters thankfully brought the vehicle to a halt, they were all released by the fire brigade lifting the vehicle eventually.
There can be no justification whatsoever or defence offered for the driver, even if he had medical or physical problems if so he should not have even had a driving licence or a legal vehicle to drive, even "Hell is to good for Him".
YNWA 97.
16.) 28 May 2025 08:20:27
Whispers that he was seen leaving Hooters on the afternoon of the incident, your right though he has not been charged with drink offences my mistake, and the Hooters thing is not proven.
Needless to say, even if the c@nt had been drink and drugs free he has demonstrated a clear disregard for all of the injured people, and anyone in the vicinity, he should be punished appropriately, and like I said the first time around, I just hope all injured people fully recover and are helped with his mental scars too. I was unfortunate enough to witness Hillsborough and was saved on the day but the scars are still with me, the guys affected on Monday will be the same.
28 Aug 2024 08:33:39
Seeing rumours Chiesa is holding out for Barcelona.
27 Apr 2024 11:40:01
Hi, I see some people mention Ed002 opinion on Slot and I have searched but cannot find anything. Just wondered what the Eds thought about the appointment?
I am quite excited to see the new era start, I have loved the Klopp reign, but he does look like he is ready to leave.
{Ed002's Note - I said he would have been my pick and he is a very good coach and good guy. It should work out well.}
1.) 27 Apr 2024 11:56:36
If he’s good enough for ed2 he’s good enough for me.
2.) 27 Apr 2024 12:02:02
The only worry I have is this league is unforgiving the spot light and pressure if he doesn't start well will be intense, everyone outside of liverpool will be looking for anything negative to throw at him and in reality he will need time to adjust.
3.) 27 Apr 2024 11:48:00
Ok brilliant thanks for answering Ed002, much appreciated. Hope you are well.
{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}
4.) 27 Apr 2024 12:10:30
I think the management know what they are doing in selecting slot. Managers get paid well to put up with the pressure I’m sure he will be fine. We have an excellent squad who need new ideas, I think people will be in for a surprise at what slot brings.
5.) 27 Apr 2024 12:28:24
The good thing is that Slot will have time over the summer to bed in and get his ideas. He’ll also have time as well.
6.) 27 Apr 2024 12:56:41
He needs players and I’m not sure fsg will provide what he needs.
7.) 27 Apr 2024 16:16:26
he should get money = we had over £100m for Caicedo and Lavia and we will save wages from the constantly injured players like Matip and Thiago and selling the prima donna.
{Ed002's Note - You need to stay away from the money.}
8.) 27 Apr 2024 17:52:15
Ed002-
On what do you base your preference for Slot?
What evidence do you have that he is a good guy and coach?
{Ed002's Note - I have met him and found him affable and he has done well coaching.}
9.) 27 Apr 2024 18:31:00
I don’t understand where the ideas around our budgets are coming from.
We pay huge wages to Salah, Alisson, Virgil.
Macca and Darwin are probably on a lot.
Talk of £100m burning a hole in FSG’s pocket seems weird to me.
10.) 27 Apr 2024 17:03:49
Either Ed1 or Ed2, do you think Slot will take us back to high intensity high press football or will we further morph into another Guardiola knock-off?
{Ed001's Note - probably a bit of both.}
11.) 27 Apr 2024 20:23:15
@Babbity
He likes to be high pressure when out of possession but with the ball he prefers to build play through midfield passing and generate chances via cut backs from the wings, based on what I saw the other day which was admittedly only 7 games.
This is just my view but it's a successful system but it is not much fun to warch, like guardiola there is little to no room for spontaneity and everything stems from drilling patterns of play into players.
He's far closer to pep than he is to klopp.
12.) 27 Apr 2024 23:10:32
@Ron, it’s the difference between, we can potentially fund a £ 100m signing versus we have £100 m funds to spend. People can either tell the difference or they can’t.
13.) 28 Apr 2024 08:47:46
A recommendation from Ed002 will do for me.
I hope he receives all the backing he needs - and stays true to how he wants his teams to play.
14.) 28 Apr 2024 09:10:09
Sorry if this has been addressed Ed002, but I was wondering if Slot will have an “input” on players?
I think you’ve said in the past that Fallows identifies players from a scouting perspective.
It’s clear in the past Klopp had a reasonable input into picking targets. Eg picking Nunez.
It seems Slot will not have as much of a say but considering he will have his own style of football he wants the squad to play, will he be able to give his views on which players in the squad are a good/ bad fit for his system?
{Ed002's Note - Slot's role, assuming it is the same as offered to and rejected by Amorim, will be as Head Coach and whilst he will be consulted over signings he will initially be presented with the list of tagets Fallows, Hunter and Klopp have settled on. You can expect some changes to the list, but it will remain largey what we know now. As you say, Nunez was very much a Klopp signing Keith and perhaps we will see the same with Slot. Certainly Slot will have an input.}
15.) 28 Apr 2024 10:36:38
An affable Dutch person!? We may have found the needle in the haystack! Promising
#sarcasm ?.
16.) 28 Apr 2024 15:19:39
I see the 'Ten Haag in disguise' have started and the well he never played in the premier league so he won't succeed.
I like how people are giving Slot a chance before judging.
Nobody knows how he's going to do.
17.) 28 Apr 2024 18:53:44
Name me a premier league winning manager who played in the premier league.
18.) 28 Apr 2024 19:23:10
@Ron Keague. my thoughts exactly.
31 Aug 2023 17:12:02
Do LFC have alternative's in mind if Gravenbach falls through? As it seems LFC are waiting on BM, and BM are waiting on Fulham and Fulham are looking for someone. Its like buying a house in a chain it seems.
{Ed002's Note - Sure but the decision needs to be made soon.}
1.) 31 Aug 2023 17:31:24
Yeah but a chain normally go's on for weeks. not 2 days before completion date.
2.) 31 Aug 2023 17:38:34
A chain would normally be months not weeks Magico. Luckily we are dealing in football player transfers that can happen in hours.
Plenty of time to get it done.
3.) 31 Aug 2023 18:43:26
Who's the alternative eds? Also, are we actually speaking to any defenders? Cheers.
{Ed002's Note - I have explained about the options.}
4.) 31 Aug 2023 18:52:29
But are we actually talking to defenders who we have time and a realistic chance of signing?
{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of Liverpool talking with individual defenders. The process is to speak with clubs.}
5.) 31 Aug 2023 18:55:48
Ha ha! Ok, clubs?! Cheers.
6.) 31 Aug 2023 19:06:50
Being reported Gravenberch €40m agreed medical here we go from Romano. As always believe when he walks through the door.
7.) 31 Aug 2023 19:19:48
Yeah, until his agent tells him to hold on.
8.) 31 Aug 2023 20:34:30
I hear Todd Boely’s private jet has intercepted Gravenberch’s flight and is currently towing it to west London.

31 May 2025 16:54:44
Sorry to be a pain, I know everyone is saying the Wirtz deal is going to happen but it just feels the longer it goes on the more likely it won't happen. It just feels like the lavia deal again.
It doesn't help all the crap in the media but what is the truth? From what I have read they have turned down our latest offer. Is this true or does nobody know anything and it's all speculation at the moment?
1.) 31 May 2025 17:11:37
Because LFC don't broadcast what they are doing in the market everything is just speculation and nothing more. No one knows anything except the parties involved.
2.) 31 May 2025 17:21:37
Go outside and go for a nice walk mate. YNWA.
3.) 31 May 2025 17:24:30
Just have to keep plugging away at the deal.
On one hand I think Leverkusen would want to reject the first few bids anyway for such a player. Their fans are attached to this player. Can't be seen to give up easily. Also, players like this don't grow on trees. They'll want the maximum they can get and rightfully so.
I do not have any ill will towards Leverkusen in this deal. They have a right to be paid a fair whack.
We just have to be patient and keep the fingers crossed that a deal can be worked that works for all parties.
4.) 31 May 2025 17:33:20
As hard as it is we just have to stay patient. I haven't seen anything from any of the usual reliable sources about the offer getting rejected. If it does get rejected I can see us still improving the offer. Fingers crossed it gets over the line within the next week.
5.) 31 May 2025 17:34:04
He's a luxury none of us were expecting to happen let alone choose us over Bayern. From what I've read it's the add-ons that are to be sorted with the initial 105-109m agreed.
6.) 31 May 2025 17:36:14
I’ve seen report that he’s flying in this weekend for medical.
7.) 31 May 2025 17:39:38
The window isn't officially open. Relax.
8.) 31 May 2025 18:35:56
The window is just for registration.
Deals can happen at any time. (Frimpong)
9.) 31 May 2025 18:42:05
It sounds more like the feeling is agreed but the payment schedule is the sticking point. That's easier to get sorted so I imagine Leverkusen would be OK with him coming for a medical between international games.
10.) 31 May 2025 19:48:07
I think he's sold on the move, we won't back out, just minor details to sort out, like payment structure or player in exchange. Relax, this one is definitely happening.
11.) 01 Jun 2025 04:34:53
100m+ deals always take weeks. Grealish to Man City took months. Bale to Madrid took months. More money to negotiate = more details to agree upon. He isn't some product you buy off the shelf at a store.
24 May 2025 06:57:41
Not really a rumour, but just been on a dog walk and my thoughts went to LFC as they tend to do.
A couple of days ago I saw a post on Twitter saying Liverpool looking to sign Firminio 2.0, I didn't really take any notice as it's twitter, but I was thinking maybe that's the plan for Wirtz, as a false nine.
My other thought was I also saw some things about Szob playing as a 8 or 6 (is international coach) is the plan to use Szob further back and even as cover for Grav
Also the Kerkez news has gone quiet, are we still in for him?
21 Apr 2025 13:51:28
I am struggling to understand the salt from fans and pundits on us winning the league, is it jealousy, the fact nobody predicted this, that loads expected either a drop off, transition or Slot being sacked, that other clubs spent money and we didn't.
Especially it seems from Arsenal fans, they think they should have had a right to win the league.
Just find it really odd, we all play 38 games, we are play eleven v eleven (at least to start) . Very odd.
1.) 21 Apr 2025 14:05:15
Honestly, I think a lot of the noise comes more from the media than from genuine fans. Most of the supporters I know, regardless of who they follow - including plenty of Arsenal fans, acknowledge that we’ve absolutely earned this title. The bitterness and spin often stem from media narratives and the echo chambers of social media. There’s always going to be jealousy when expectations are shattered, especially when a club defies the odds without the spending power others rely on. That kind of success challenges the status quo and not everyone takes it well.
2.) 21 Apr 2025 14:41:15
I think the more bizarre thing is people saying Salah isn't a top 10 pl player of all time and Virgil isn't even a top 10 center half, what an utter joke.
3.) 21 Apr 2025 15:46:22
The “pundits” who all said Liverpool would be lucky to be top 3 are being proven wrong. Nothing more nothing less.
4.) 21 Apr 2025 16:03:18
Aye Patrik, Salah is joint 5th on the all time premier league goal scorers list and nothing, VVD is one of the best defenders the league has seen and nothing - like the Scholes debate too fs. Amazing how many now think he's the greatest midfielder ever to play in the league
His team won loads, that's the argument people put forward or that Zidane said this or Iniesta said that - Maldini said VVD is probably the best he has seen but hey they ignore that and still put Vidic higher
My argument is if you look at the individual awards, as voted by coaches, players etc, Scholes is nowhere near Lampard or Gerrard - team of the year, player of the month, players player of the year, Bslon D'Or etc, at his absolute best his fellow players and coaches thought others were simply better, surely they are and were more qualified to answer that question then than we are now?
5.) 21 Apr 2025 19:23:18
@Salah as much as I love seen the salty tears of the rival fans as well as the pathetic media backtracking from the media, I fully agree that in the main, PL fans really don't care and actually give us the credit we deserve.
Now I will say that the media pundit class backtracking and making absolute bell-ends of themselves all season long with their anti- LFC narrative du jour is absolte gold-dust for me.
17 Jun 2025 18:28:59
I loved Bjournebye, even if it's just for the cross to Ruddock in the 3-3 vs Man United. He had a wand of a cross.
Rob Jones played left wing back when Mcateer played at Right wing back.
Aurelio was brilliant. I liked Riise what a striker of the ball, but always felt he was an accident waiting to happen.
14 Jun 2025 19:51:03
Remember Salah is also away for what could be a month, missing quite a few games.
