Hi Ed002. Hope you’re doing well.

With the January window soon to be approaching I was wondering whether Liverpool will be still looking to sign a CDM?

The glaring omission from Liverpools side is an out and out quality number 6.

Previously you’ve stated that Liverpool will likely look to other options compared to Palhinha. The interest in Trindade is also well documented, although looks difficult to complete.

What other options are Liverpool looking to in that role? There’s not a whole lot of CDM’s I know much about!

Thanks very much.

MonkeyMad

{Ed002's Note - Andre Trindade (DM) Recommended to Liverpool as Fabinho cover a couple of years ago. Arsenal have scouted the player and may well make a move prior to the January Window with Edu being praised as being more respectful than a representative of another club. Prior interest of Barcelona and Braga has gone.

Fulham are keen to take him if Bayern Munich return and they lose Palinha - but there is a catch for interested parties who have been told must be resolved. Fluminense only own 80% of his rights and that would need to be addressed. They will also seek perhaps €40M including add ons.

I would not rule out Napoli but they may be some way off meeting the transfer fee or indeed Manchester United who will need a Casemiro replacement. I am not aware of any agreement between Liverpool and Fluminense just yet but there is the possibility of completing the transfer for January although they will have competition. Fluminense have a replacement lined up.

Kalvin Phillips (DM) Do not rule out Manchester City letting Kalvin Phillips go in January. He has been offered around but Liverpool opted for another and will bolster their midfield with another preferred target if possible, but he remains on the list. Aston Villa or West Ham did not see any value at the asking price.

Newcastle may yet offer a wildcard option, perhaps an initial loan. Juventus offer an unlikely loan option but are concerned he won't settle away from England. Spurs may be tempted. I am not aware of Everton making any approach but if Onana were to be sold he may be a consideration.

Ezequiel Fernandez (DM) After losing out on Boca youngster Alan Varela, Benfica have turned to another Boca youngster, Ezequiel Fernandez, as a potential Florentino replacement - Fernandez is also interesting Milan and Liverpool who had him watched by an ex-PL player who is now a very high-end scout. Would be an option to Andre Trindade.

Joao Palhinha (DM/CM) Only moved 18 months ago and Fulham will not look to sell unless a huge offer is made and the player asks for a move. All interest except that of Bayern Munich, Arsenal and possibly Newcastle will have gone with the signing of a new contract although Manchester United and Liverpool have had a will respected ex PL and high-end independent scout watch the player on their behalf - although both have other targets. Fulham will still look to replacements as they fear the player could have his head turned by Bayern Munich or Arsenal, who see him as an option to Trindade, who Fulham are also keen on.

Arthur Vermeeren (CM/DM) Barcelona have offered the well liked Royal Antwerp youngster the opportunity to join their B side. Manchester United had a long history with Royal Antwerp but would face Work Permit issues in England and would have to pay over the odds, apply for an exception or wait until he gets a full cap. Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus have sent scouts.

Manu Kouadio Kone (CM/DM) Prior interest of Milan has gone. Newcastle did approach Borussia Muenchegladbach but they will resist a sale although Newcastle remain keen and the club have identified a replacement for Kone. RBL were keen to add Kone to replace Laimer but that interest, like the interest of Bayern Munich has gone. Juventus and Liverpool may have a continuing interest but I expect both to look elsewhere.

Khephren Thuram (DM/CM) Nice felt they were messed around by clubs in the summer and then the player picked up an injury. Interest of Spurs, Liverpool and, in particular, Juventus remains but Liverpool will likely focus on a preferred DM option but will turn back to him if unsuccessful.

Interest of Newcastle will likely fall away. If interest further grows his price will rise and the club would sell given the emergence of Alexis Beka Beka and an impressive youngster in Reda Belahyane. Nice do not want to sell and again a move to OLd Trafford will not be welcomed by the Nice supporters.

Real Madrid have him on a list of potential additions given they are facing midfield departures in the summer - and I would not rule them, or indeed Manchester City, out. Player wants PSG but they have no interest at this time - but his representative is pushing PSG as well as Real Madrid and will encourage the player to wait out the year and see what happens.

Assan Ouedraogo (CM/DM) Much is expected of the kiddie and Schalke will try and fend off interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich who want to take him at 18 in the summer and have both spoken with his club. Schalke has also said that they are aware that an "agent" representing the underage player has been approached by someone representing Liverpool and that they have written to the club asking for this to stop. That will discount Liverpool. Brighton and Milan have sent scouts.}

1.) 12 Dec 2023 10:47:37
Is Andre our preferred target?

{Ed002's Note - Yes but there is strong competition.}

2.) 12 Dec 2023 13:51:29
Ed002 do you see us signing anyone in January or do you think we will go with what we have till the summer.
When with Thiago and Matip both out of contract frees up wages with both on big wages or do you think we will try to improve now we do looks very short of a first class number 6 Endo for me is nowhere near good enough to start against the top sides in the premier league or Europe.

{Ed002's Note - I would not expect Liverpool to sign players just for the sake of it in January unless a specific targate, such as Andre Trindade, were available. And they need to be aware of quotas.}

3.) 12 Dec 2023 15:47:57
I think if there were any way to engineer a move for Thiago and bring in Andre that would make the most sense.

4.) 12 Dec 2023 20:24:49
I'm guessing with Matip out for the season they could unregister him to create a space.

5.) 12 Dec 2023 20:25:36
Lol strong competition if he wants to go elsewhere he isn’t what we want then. There are 3 clubs in the Prem atm Liverpool Man City and Arsenal anyone interested in joining any of the others is not what we need.

6.) 13 Dec 2023 11:59:28
If we want him and are willing to compete with others on price, then I am sure we will win the race. However, if we're looking to play games, his advisors may just push him elsewhere.

Strong rumours that Liverpool have bid for Caicedo.

Any of the Ed’s aware of this? It’s come as quite the shock as the amount would be upwards of £85mil but would go some way as to explaining why Chelsea outbid Liverpool for Lavia.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

(Not getting my hopes up)

MonkeyMad

{Ed002's Note - It would hardly explain Chelsea bidding for Lavia - their interest goes back way before Liverpool showed interest. If the club can sign Caicedo, it would be an excellent addition.}

02 Jun 2023 14:39:40
Just by way of update I thought I'd share some details from reliable journos atm with the most likely arrivals.

Midfield.

Alexis Mac Allister - Ed002 and reliable journos are consistently reporting that the player has no issues with the terms etc. Issue is the fee. Difference here is the media believe the fee will be less than £60.5mil and won't be an issue. Wait and see but this one will likely be concluded shortly.

Khephren Thuram - Ed002 has stated that Liverpool are very interested. Interest confirmed by two of the most reliable journalists in France (and Fabrizio) who claim Khephren would like to join, stress negotiations could take time as Nice don't want to sell. Neil Jones says to keep an eye and that Liverpool are very interested.

Kouadio (Manu) Kone - Fabrizio and swathes of reliable German reporters claim that this deal could be completed quickly. Kone would have no issue on joining and suggestions are Monchengladbach are in a bit of a pickle and will need funds (sacked their manager as I'm writing this) . Suggestions from Germany state Schmadtke's son is set to take on a sporting role within the club too. Reported fee is EUR35-40mil. Ed002 has confirmed interest.

Gravenberch - Reliable Liverpool journos and German media claim he's a top target. Has gone quiet of late. Ed002 claims Bayern don't want to sell.

Lavia - Reported interest from Neil Jones. No real news other than this. Will be leaving Southampton.

Mount - Was seemingly our first choice to join although I think Chelsea's asking price coupled with his preference of joining Man United means he will end up there. Shame. He's a great player.

Defenders

Goncalo Inacio - Clear first choice. Currently nothing in the media suggesting anything is imminent but Portuguese outlets claim Liverpool are intersted. Ed002 has repeatedly said this is the case.

Micky Van De Ven - First links in the media came this week. Reliable Wolfsburg paper (who broke the Schmadtke news) claim Liverpool are looking to sign him. Recently come out that he is a Liverpool fan and said he dreams of playing at Anfield. Has legs it seems.

Jurrien Timber - Name-dropped by The Athletic and Liverpool journos. Could be a target and it would make sense given he is a versatile player who can play as a fullback.

Not sure there's anything else.

MonkeyMad

1.) 02 Jun 2023 15:07:27
I agree with you in regards to Mount, I think he will be a good signing for whoever he does too (looking likely Utd) and I was surprised the amount of fans who don’t want him, even before it came out Utd are front runners.

2.) 02 Jun 2023 15:19:45
My take on things.

MacAllister seems all but done, but that doesn't mean it could take a turn sideways still. It does seem Liverpool are very interested in landing one of Kone or Thuram too. There's a lot going on here, and I believe Kone prefers Chelsea but they'd have to make room for him. It doesn't seem there was ever anything of substance to Gravenberch, besides conversations between Klopp and his dad. Lavia seems possible, but not first choice. That price is high for what he is at the moment. Mount seems destined for United. Something seems off with him too. He's had a lot of drama surrounding him lately, and I don't care for how he's handled his exit at Chelsea. Excellent player, but I'm unsure about his character.

As for the defenders, maybe Timber gets some legs, but these 3 in particular all seem unlikely. I think we go for someone, just someone else not on this list. Sporting is p. ed at Liverpool right now over tapping up incidents, van de Ven is rumored to have signed a deal that just hasn't been registered yet, and Timber doesn't seem like a good fit since we already have Konate. He isn't going to want to go somewhere to sit.

3.) 02 Jun 2023 15:48:33
Have to disagree on Mason Mount. Glad he is too expensive for us and glad his preference is United.

4.) 02 Jun 2023 16:25:09
Agreed alonso. also glad he won't be coming here. Sure 1 of the eds said its kone or thuram, not both. Hope its both myself with mcalistair. Think we need 3.
Hoping for a new cb but never really seen any mentioned play.

5.) 02 Jun 2023 16:37:25
I know we had previous interest in Lindstrom at Frankfurt, but have seen he's closely linked to Leipzig to be at the point where they actively bidding on him. Seems like LFC are out of the picture at this point.

6.) 02 Jun 2023 16:38:45
Would love both Kone and Thuram as they are the legs we need for our midfield but perhaps it is an either or situation as the Ed has previously stated. What are people preference between the two as they seem quiet similar? Again would love both but not sure where they would fit, even with departures we would still have hendo, Thiago, bacjetic, Fabinho, jones and Elliott although I do consider Elliott to be more of a Salah back up than CM, even discounting Elliott that's 8 midfielders for 3 spots.

7.) 02 Jun 2023 17:05:27
I'd be inclined to get both and make fabinho available personally. The drop off from this season is a massive concern. I know he and his mrs have had a child but that's no excuse for the drop off. He's on the decline unfortunately and may need a move for himself also. A midfield of thuram kone mcalistair adding in trent hendo baj thiago and Jones if he stays also. is a serious upgrade now ox and keita have finally gone.

8.) 02 Jun 2023 17:18:52
Magico, same here mate. I hope it’s both Kone and Thuram. Both players have come through the France youths teams together since the age of 13 and know each other well. Signing both would also allow Mac Allister to play further up the pitch in almost a free role, which would suit his game. Plus both would allow us to play a more intense tempo game. We will see what happens though.

9.) 02 Jun 2023 17:50:18
Magico stay clear of personal life comments, being 'no excuse' for poor performance. Keep it to the information we see not presume. Also, any father who prioritises their kid over career has my full backing.

10.) 02 Jun 2023 18:04:04
I agree on would be great to get both but I’d prefer It
If we got Thiago off the books .
I love Thiago he is just a joy to watch his abilities with a football are unreal but he’s a luxury player and we aren’t good enough to accommodate that . We need legs and mobility and 30+ games a season out of a player so for me I would get rid of thiago over fabinho just for the reasons above .

11.) 02 Jun 2023 19:21:59
Say what I want thanks. love fabinho but that season was dreadful from him and should be seriously looked at. baj could take his place for me.

12.) 02 Jun 2023 19:34:32
Completely agree Magico bud he's been well below par and id take both players if it means a stronger squad with legs.

13.) 02 Jun 2023 21:56:31
@OP, appreciate the update. Good summary and nice to have it all in the one spot.

14.) 02 Jun 2023 22:32:17
Dhfc. I'm not against letting fab and thiago go to be fair. its time. They slow the midfield right down and allow opposing players to get 10 men back in defence against our attack I'm afraid. New legs are needed for sure.

15.) 02 Jun 2023 23:52:24
Would love to see Thurman Kobe Mac alister in. Keep Thiago what a player yes he’s a luxury but when he has players who can do the majority of running like hendo fabinho 2 years ago he’s a cut above. This season has been a tale of decline in too many midfielders we’ve missed gini since he left too. Front line looks strong great young players just need some athleticism in cm. And probably a cb. Don’t rate konate he’s too clumsy. He’s decent but for me is a rotation player.

16.) 03 Jun 2023 03:41:46
No matter how great mount is with his injury record i would rather not have him here.

17.) 03 Jun 2023 10:34:12
I agree Magico we need legs and if we end up with Fab and Elliot/ Hendo having to play together we will have learned nothing.

18.) 03 Jun 2023 10:53:32
Diagree on Fabinho. He has dropped off, but the majority of the team has this season.

I see the games where he is caught out and it is often where his CM partners are not as defensively astute or cover as much ground. That leads to him covering more ground than he can and he gets caught out of position and has to make lots of dodgy tackles.

Then watch him with Henderson alongside him again, and possibly Thiago, and suddenly he is a commanding DM again.

Essentially, if Fab has legs around him he can perform, without that he looks average at best.

That is my opinion anyway.
VVD's performances this season have been no better than Fab's, and that is also linked as he has been exposed more due to Fab.

Honestly, that missing couple of midfielders has hurt the whole team.

Hi Ed002, Neil Jones (highly respected journo) has provided the first reliable links to Khephren Thuram and said that the club are interested in the player, he also brought up Mac Allister and Mount (which we obviously already know of) . Interestingly he also stated we would be interested in Colwill, Jurrien Timber and Aguerd.

I’ve got 3 questions:

1) is there any development on the Thuram front? I know you previously stated he was in discussions with another team, have Liverpool thrown their hat in the ring?

2) Levi Colwill, will Chelsea sanction a move to LFC or is he considered not for sale?

3) Aguerd, are you aware of any interest in him? He’s looked a good player for West Ham.

Thanks very much as always!

MonkeyMad

{Ed002's Note - Firstly I am sorry my explaining Liverpool interest in Thurman over recent months was not reliable in your eyes. As I have said, repeatedly, Liverpool are interested but there are ongoing discussions with another side. Chelsea would not block a player moving to Liverpool - but Liverpool have not spoken to Chelsea about him. Liverpool have shown no interest in Aguerd.}

1.) 23 May 2023 19:16:13
Hi Ed002,

Your contribution is greatly appreciated, I was not accusing your information of being dishonest or unreliable! I meant reliable outside of this page, unless you’re a journalist of course. In which, yes I called you unreliable.

Thanks for the information!

2.) 23 May 2023 20:04:39
Aguerd is quite injury prone i think. And Colwill has struggled to break into Brighton's side as a regular. Timber is the best of those 3 CB options in my opinion. He's played nearly 4000 minutes of football this season. Would be very happy with those 2 or 3 midfielders too. We're spoilt on here with Ed002 giving us info months in advance of the journalists!

3.) 23 May 2023 21:30:17
Ed02 is fantastic, and I for one appreciate all the updates. Thank you and please keep doing what you do, you are really valued.

4.) 23 May 2023 22:09:49
Ed002 I trust your info as well as taking the pi22 out of ed25. Hey he's an easy target. But I don't get why anyone would go onto a free forum and just go "Well I've heard different so there"

5.) 23 May 2023 23:42:50
He hasn’t said I’ve heard different so there? He’s read some information from a journalist and from what I can gather is asking ed2 if there’s any truth in it.

6.) 24 May 2023 00:23:52
Agreed Pegleg, my reading was that the OP had read something that meant there might be an update and asked a perfectly reasonable question.

7.) 24 May 2023 02:24:45
Fair do's fellas. My misreading. No offence meant Monkey.

8.) 24 May 2023 08:07:17
I read about interest in Thuram in January. i came on to this site to see what Ed02 was writing about him and he confirmed we had asked about the player. So I can confirm Ed O2 has stated for months we had targeted the player.

9.) 24 May 2023 08:11:49
Agreed. he was simply asking a question having read some info from a journo. Nothing to take offence at.

10.) 24 May 2023 08:40:38
Instead of ed2 answering all the questions? Why don’t posters help out especially those on everyday try to answer them?
Just so Ed 2 isn’t repeating his answers tbh.

11.) 24 May 2023 09:11:15
@Wishy, January is a fair while ago mate, it’s fair to suppose that things might change over the course of 5 months. Not a biggie though.

12.) 24 May 2023 09:12:54
The echo blood red podcast in January mentioned Thuram and Koopmeiners as potential midfielders we are looking at, these 2 are 2 players Neil Jones as come out as potential signings this summer. Its old news. Ed02 said on both players at the time, Koopmeiners interest but will not be leaving
in January. Thuram interest but other clubs are interested.
If you see a name linked to us just submit it above and I am certain you will see Ed 02 has either confirmed or squashed it.
Just look at the above Koopmeiners, "Will not be leaving in the January window. Correct.

15 May 2023 15:37:59
Hi Ed002, hope all is well.

I've been reading through various reports about midfield players.

It seems Mac Allister is of interest to Liverpool and Chelsea (well documented) . You say also a bid is expected.

Mount is in contract talks with Chelsea and Poch could convince him to renew. If he doesn't I expect him to also join.

As for others the two seem to be Gravenberch and Ugarte.

1) Gravenberch: from reports today it looks like Bayern are set to sign Edson Alvarez from Ajax. With him potentially arriving and Laimer coming through the door do we think that Bayern would let Gravenberch leave? Is the player also interested in a move to LFC?

2) Ugarte is a strange one. Loads of reliable Portuguese media stated Liverpool were very interested. It went quiet and then reports of tapping up and Sporting potentially reporting Liverpool to UEFA came up. I saw your note on the European page regarding this also. I believe this case because Klopp then interestingly specifically mentioned 'tapping up' in his pre Leicester press conference and subsequently Liverpool briefed Journo, Neil Jones, then said Liverpool weren't interested. Is there a chance a deal still gets done on that? Or are Sporting very miffed and no longer considering negotiating with Liverpool at all?

Thanks very much!

MonkeyMad

{Ed002's Note - There is interest from elsewhere in MacAllister and a bid will soon arrive from another club.
Mount has not agreed a new contract and unless he does he will be sold. Liverpool have declared an interest.
Bayern are not looking to sell Gravenburch.
Sporting do not want to do business with Liverpool.}

1.) 15 May 2023 15:56:11
Surely the buy out clause will negate that.

{Ed002's Note - It is not as simple as that.}

2.) 15 May 2023 15:57:04
Were reports the other day that Sporting were unhappy with Liverpool for approaching Ugarte/ his agent mid season - wonder if that has anything to do with it.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the tapping up.}

3.) 15 May 2023 19:27:08
We’ve been tapping up again? ?‍♂️ like that’s a joke how can Klopp/ the club not learn from past mistakes. Scandalous if this has cost us a top player.

4.) 16 May 2023 08:15:31
Bmena he probably feels he has to try and get the prices down, he does work with FSG after all.

5.) 16 May 2023 09:43:03
Reeks of dysfunction and will end up costing more than saving us.

I wonder if/ how Schmadtke intends to deal with this practise.

Enjoyed the football on show this weekend. I thought Liverpool's performance and result against Bournemouth (the in-form team in the league) was impressive to say the least.

I was nervous for all the away games against Forest, Brentford and Bournemouth however this team keeps proving me wrong. 7/ 9 points at some of the hardest places to go this season and realistically, if not for some excellent goal line defending and goalkeeping, it would be 9/ 9!

Everton (A) is always going to be a tough game however this team has the players and ability to win that game. I think win the next two league games and we are in an excellent spot for the run in.

Also for those who think City are anywhere near it and can put a winning run together, the Arsenal result was a stark reminder at just how poor they are when a team turns up the intensity. They've been miles off it all season and have conceded 4 or more a few times. Liverpool need to go to the Etihad and hold that attitude, they will struggle if you don't give them the respect of prior City teams.

The title race is quite evidently a two horse affair. Liverpool vs Arsenal. Arsenal are a great team and have proven they won't back down easily, the hope is that their lacklustre attack will cost them again at some point. For Liverpool they just need to take it a game at a time, we are evidently the best team in the league so we just need to continue to perform like it. I have no doubt Arne and the boys won't rest on their laurels and will attack the rest of the season.

Let's back the lads all the way to the finish and, hopefully, watch Virgil lift our 20th league title at the end of the season (along with one or two others) .

MonkeyMad

1.) 03 Feb 2025 17:54:55
Winning at Everton and having that 9 point cushion will demoralise arsenal no matter what the that's on sky say. 9 points with 14 games left means we need 11 wins. 10 if you consider our superior GD and 9 if one of them wins is against arsenal at anfield.

But rarely do Liverpool ever do things the easy way.

2.) 03 Feb 2025 18:06:45
Unfortunately can’t see us winning at Everton, Cheslea, Villa and city.

3.) 03 Feb 2025 18:46:23
Everton are flying 3/ 3 wins, another very tough game!
But nobody is going to gift us this title, we’re going to have to go to goodison and beat them.

4.) 03 Feb 2025 18:55:16
i can't see u being a liverpool fan. None of those teams have a chance if we play close to our best.

5.) 03 Feb 2025 18:58:40
“Arsenal are a ‘great’ team”? Ahahahahaha.

6.) 03 Feb 2025 19:40:23
To say none of those teams have a chance is ridiculous. Most of our victories have been by tight margins and some games could have gone either way. Rarely have we blown any teams away to say with confidence those teams don’t have a chance. I can see Arsenal winning most of their remaining games which means we need to carry on playing at 100%, pray for no injuries to key players, and hope we can still win those games where the margins are tight which will be most of them.

7.) 03 Feb 2025 19:56:57
did you read the full sentence? if we are close to our best it said! If we are, not many teams can match us. And i disagree about tight margins. We have fully deserved 95% of our wins so far this season.

8.) 03 Feb 2025 20:18:34
Thing is Kohli, people assume if we loose a game Arsenal will simply win the game they play. That won't happen every time we drop points. They have to better our result week on week for many game to come. That is not easy when younare chasing.

9.) 03 Feb 2025 20:26:48
City adding a DM will make them a much tougher team to play than the one we just saw vs Arsenal.

10.) 03 Feb 2025 20:33:23
Arsenal will drop points in the next 14. They've had 8 draws already this season and need to get about 2.5 points per game from now on.

11.) 03 Feb 2025 20:42:39
You don’t get it Bummy. Arsenal have an easier run ahead. I stand by my opinion. We are in 4 competitions and one Gravenberch for all those.

12.) 03 Feb 2025 20:52:32
another harry account i see, Arsenal certainly doesn't have an easier run whatsoever imo, they have to play most of the same teams we play.

13.) 03 Feb 2025 20:53:31
Ruben Dias and Doku are back for that game too Brummy so its going to be a different line-up from city for sure, but if we're on it we can beat them.

14.) 04 Feb 2025 01:38:02
Kurt we also have Newcastle a couple days later. Really crucial week imo. If we take 4 points from those two I would be happy provided we win all the games until then.

15.) 04 Feb 2025 07:36:55
@Virat, saying Arsenal having an easier run in (with 14 games to play) is based on your opinion that everything you are capable of imaging will actually happen. Have many of the last 14 games for the entire division did you predict correctly? If it was 100% I wonder you aren’t an interweb sensation. As I say. If it was a simplistic tallying up of who has the better players we’d have all made millions at the bookies.

16.) 04 Feb 2025 08:16:54
When we won the league in 2020 it was very easy. If memory serves we were 19 points ahead when the league was stopped for Covid.

09 Jan 2025 21:04:21
Paul Joyce saying we are set to try and sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia if he becomes available in January. Ornstein has also said the same.

Seems a bizarre move in the sense we definitely do not need another left winger HOWEVER I think it could prove to be good business. Diaz is constantly flirting with Barcelona and isn’t quite as dynamic as he once was on the wing, Nunez is also probably off - it makes sense long term.

He’s an absolutely excellent player so would be some coup. Let’s hope it comes to fruition!

MonkeyMad

1.) 09 Jan 2025 22:38:10
Would love us to sign him, a great player to watch and a lot of potential to become better. Could be that Nunez is off to Saudi, and more than likely Doak which would pay for a majority of the fee. Would really like Tchouameni to come in, we desperately need numbers in midfield for second half of season and he can cover CB also.

If another midfielder does arrive I’d say Endo is gone in this window and possibly Moerton.

2.) 09 Jan 2025 22:44:16
Sounds a bit like Chiesa in that it’s an opportunistic signing rather than what we need. Terrific player but the one position we definitely don’t need. Surely another attacker would have to move on for this to make any sense.

3.) 09 Jan 2025 22:47:26
It'll our shambolic transfer committee until February to do the paperwork with a name like that.

4.) 09 Jan 2025 22:52:38
I suspect we want a forward who can genuinely cover RW for Salah, not like how Diaz, Gakpo and Jota can "cover" RW. It looks like Chiesa and Elliott will leave and it's pointless having a direct understudy for Salah as he would never get enough game time.

5.) 09 Jan 2025 22:59:05
Could be, Frode.
The key words that I read were 'if he becomes available'.
It doesn't mean very much. I reckon Napoli will want the PSG cash.

6.) 09 Jan 2025 23:02:47
Joyce said "Liverpool are monitoring the situation of the Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and may decide to act if he looks to leave this month. " [@_pauljoyce].

7.) 10 Jan 2025 00:05:57
Cornering the market on Goalkeepers and right footed left wingers.

8.) 10 Jan 2025 00:08:50
Excellent. Another top LW. Hopefully we get Nico Williams too. Then the squad will be complete.

9.) 10 Jan 2025 00:36:17
You have any info if this is true or not Ed? If we pull this off, does that make 3 straight January window that we go and buy a LW if I'm not mistaken? And in between that period, not a single CB or LB has been brought in when we desperately need at least one in. I'm not really fond of this "opportunistic" signing way of work.

{Ed001's Note - Kvaradona has always been of interest, just never available.}

10.) 10 Jan 2025 01:20:09
Did I miss something? Is Elliott leaving?

11.) 10 Jan 2025 02:17:57
Napoli are first in serie a at the moment. They will not sell their best player right now. This is just smokescreen for something else or just something to calm the fans down.

12.) 10 Jan 2025 05:04:17
You're a fan Ed? Seems like the hype quite down a bit after that one Napoli winning Serie A season. Would be dissapointing if this is an indication that a new deal can't be agreed with Salah.

{Ed001's Note - Kvaradona is an excellent player.}

13.) 10 Jan 2025 05:29:13
Another transfer window and another example of people not understanding how PR works.

14.) 10 Jan 2025 07:27:49
Brilliant player I'd take him I'm a heartbeat. Played central for Georgia in euros the couple of games I seen them play.
Pretty sure he would be a diaz replacement, think diaz is always edging to play in Spain for barca.

15.) 10 Jan 2025 08:00:44
In fairness I was also monitoring the situation when Megan Fox left her last boyfriend.

In the end I decided it wasn’t opportunistic enough and kept my powder dry.

I’m still deciding on whether to offer the wife a new contract as she’s into her 30’s and despite still being at her peak I know her best days are behind her.

But Like Liverpool though I’ve also been having performance related issues since Christmas and I don’t last very long on top ?.

16.) 10 Jan 2025 08:36:29
I hope it’s a smokescreen for Cunha.
He’s my number 1 signing for Jan.

Wouldn’t bother too much with non-Premier league players in Jan, takes too long to adapt.

17.) 10 Jan 2025 08:46:51
Could be we sell Nunez and have Salah Chiesa for one position and Gakpo left but if needed Kvaratskhelia, Diaz who can also play central as well as Jota. Can also change positions through games. Would be a hell of an attack.

18.) 10 Jan 2025 10:34:52
Kvaradona is a decent player Ed and looks like he can play any of the forward slots but is he really what we need at the minute?

{Ed001's Note - no, but I am sure it is a good piece of leverage in contract talks with Salah.}

19.) 10 Jan 2025 10:58:29
Diaz, Nunez and Jota's time at LFC could be coming to a close soon reading between the lines.
People have said Diaz will not sign a new contract and would look to run his contract down to get a final move to Spain, in which case surely he will be sold sooner rather than later.

Kvaradona sets a new standard and can compete with any of the front 3, plus in the ten, but has he already chosen to head off to the sunday league over in Paris in search of coin and a fancy dan life?

Im all for gathering a possee of world class Georgians.

20.) 10 Jan 2025 11:22:16
I don’t think we can afford to sign someone like Kvar without selling a few, so I’m not sure how you can conduct business as passively as it’s being described.

We just watch and wait and then act. Surely you’ve got to have the conviction to clear the decks and move for your targets, in the confidence you can pay what’s required to get them. I appreciate they’ve got to be available, but surely you find out the price and do what it takes.

21.) 10 Jan 2025 12:03:28
Exactly, MonkeyMad. I don't get the proposed move either except a couple of forwards are let go this Jan, which I doubt. Wait and see.

09 Jan 2025 16:12:10
Hoping Liverpool make a midfield signing this window, but it feels very unlikely.

I think we've been struggling of late, especially defensively which has been disappointing to see.

Virgil is in imperious form however those around him not so. With Quansah going down yesterday through illness and Szoboszlai out also with illness perhaps a few members of the squad are suffering with this? They certainly haven't looked as energetic the past few games.

Contracts should be the first priority however I think the squad needs some fairly heavy investment in the coming window with LB, CB, CM and arguably ST (if Nunez is sold) all being areas that need to improve in the squad.

I would go for:

LB - Milos Kerkez, Alphonso Davies (although looks likely off to Madrid or an extension at Bayern) or perhaps more of a CB like Jorrel Hato of Ajax.

CB - Lukeba or Zabarnyi of Bournemouth.

CM - Zubmiendi or Carlos Baleba of Brighton who looks excellent

ST - Isak (obviously not affordable) or Jonathan David who is available on a free

Fingers crossed one of those positions gets covered in January.

MonkeyMad

1.) 09 Jan 2025 16:22:21
How about Harvey plus cash for Baleba .

2.) 09 Jan 2025 16:39:09
Monkey mate, Jonathan David has not only said he wouldn’t want to join us, he’s spoken about us as a club in pejorative terms. I’d not want the lad anywhere near us, although that’s fairly academic given he’s ruled himself out.

3.) 09 Jan 2025 16:41:08
The club identified a CM was required in the summer so there is money to spend but I just don’t see any signings this window.

4.) 09 Jan 2025 17:34:19
Can’t see Liverpool spending £300m in January ?.

5.) 09 Jan 2025 17:54:50
Really wouldn’t want Harvey to leave but could understand it - I think he is and will be a top top player - if he goes to a team and gets regular minutes he will be absolutely quality and one I would always be like I’m gutted he left!

6.) 09 Jan 2025 18:23:49
If Harvey does leave there can always be buy back clause or 1st refusal and so on. Doubt we'll let him go? that would crazy imo.

7.) 09 Jan 2025 18:32:06
I don't know why Harvey hasn't gotten more minutes.

8.) 09 Jan 2025 18:49:19
ViktorVaughan, the guy is not even that good and IMO, he stayed at Lille way too long to the point of regressing, IMO.

9.) 09 Jan 2025 20:04:10
boston red sox paid $103 million for a "Pitcher" as they used to say in the Navy, "are you a Pitcher or a Catcher" am definitely a "Pitcher" must be plenty of "Catchers" on here Sailor! I'ii hold yours if you hold mine springs to mind! more tea vicar.

They also gave an 11 year contract worth $331 million dollars (circa £268 million) to one player, he must be a "Catcher", Trent said he will accept the same offer "ONLY" and "ONLY" if they throw in a free Christmas Hamper, and free easter eggs as well.

Looks like LFC are "bank rolling" the red sox baseball team, rumour has it baseball players don't like Unions, because they can't stand the strikes! they will be alright here as strikers were at a premium last night "bum bum" (thats for the Catchers! ) .

{Ed001's Note - the two have nothing to do with each other. Red Sox funds itself and nothing goes out from LFC towards them.}

10.) 09 Jan 2025 20:19:47
I don’t know if he regressed, 19 league goals last season and 24 the year before that is hardly regressive. But I’m hoping whichever fool gets him ends up with another Nicolas Pepe.

11.) 09 Jan 2025 23:10:15
Weird comments made by David.

03 Nov 2024 10:18:37
Haven’t been coming on this site as often of late but absolutely bemused at the negativity surrounding yesterdays result.

Liverpool were extremely poor first half admittedly but turned it round excellently in the second half. I was sat in the Kop watching and, whilst people are questioning whether the fans are buying into the new style of football, I think it was answered yesterday. The atmosphere was rocking and Anfield was at its absolute best for large portions of that second half in particular.

I think the need for the result was exacerbated by the results in the other games too, Anfield played its part and the players must have felt it. Once City went two down that info was being shouted around and the noise levels cranked up a few levels.

I feel, personally, very optimistic for the team under Slot. They seem to react well to playing poorly and have the ability to turn games around. That Brighton team are absolutely no mugs, so for me after being 1-0 down it’s a fantastic result on a weekend where our rivals are dropping points.

Be optimistic lads! We support a fantastic football team that have a fantastic new coach and a huge wealth of talent. My only gripe is the contract situation (offer Mo Salah anything he fancies and the keys to Anfield) .

MonkeyMad

1.) 03 Nov 2024 10:33:33
At the end of the day the table and record books only remember the results and we’re currently winning games and are top of the league.

In this day and age dropping any points can be catastrophic to trying to win this league.

Last season after 10 games we were 4th which sounds like a big drop off to where we are now but we were on 23 points and this season 25.

Of course I’d love to see us play attractive football all game and it’s not like we are parking the bus and nicking goals.

We’ve had an amazing start to the season and there’s a long long way to go. This time last year Spurs were sat top on 26 points.

2 massive games coming up now with Leverkusen and Villa. With Arsenal and City dropping points yesterday I think the Villa game next week is a huge one and another 3 points there would be great.

2.) 03 Nov 2024 10:33:57
Couldn't agree more Monkey. It's well documented that players are being pushed to the limits so there will be times when you need to grind results.

The first marker pundits mention is 10 games and we are top with no one looking dominant. 3 points is all that matters and long may it continue.

I think people forget that in the title winning season we were often below standards but we kept getting results. Fingers crossed we follow a similar path this season with Arsenal and city's struggles continuing.

3.) 03 Nov 2024 10:36:37
I don’t think anyone is questioning the new style or Slot. The manager has had an amazing start to his what will hopefully be a long, fruitful reign at the club.

4.) 03 Nov 2024 10:42:07
What's this, a sensible post? ?.

5.) 03 Nov 2024 10:44:34
Tbf I thought it was the best the crowd has been in a longtime against a so called smaller team. Reminded me of Klopp early days - need much more of that if the team are going to win the prem this year.

6.) 03 Nov 2024 11:19:36
Crowd was bang on second half ??
with the performance, I think Brighton just did their homework and targeted Mac in midfield. Second half Slot whipped 2 of them off and went more direct down the sides, we also put some tackles in and kicked them back a bit instead of being bullied and deserved to win.

7.) 03 Nov 2024 11:33:59
We were top of the table last season with I think 2 months To go? We came undone because the results papered up very poor performances. It's happening again. I do no like our style of play. Detested how we played the last 2 seasons under klopp and it's much of the same but slower. We seem like a reactive team than pro active now. We also do not score goals from build up play. It's very much counter attacking football were we look threatening. The slow "controlled" style of play is horrible and does not get the best out of this team IMO. slots tactically doing good but I'm just not a fan of this. Brighton looked soo good yesterday for large parts because they play better football ad a team.

8.) 03 Nov 2024 11:56:15
Agreed mizer, don't like this type of football myself. Need to get 2 players in Jan definitely. Needed 2 last January also. Need to get Harvey back in soon. Replacement for when robbo can wait till end of season. Need a creative spark in middle.
Need to start high tempo fast moving football. Been a problem all last season, and even slower this time.
You can't expect fans to raise the roof when we start so slow and laboured.
Results business I understand, but football is more about entertainment for most of us.

9.) 03 Nov 2024 12:16:44
The only sensible post on this entire thread is from @Mizer. No sugar coating, no buttering, absolutely bang on the money. Ljinders took dog abuse for playing this dross style.

10.) 03 Nov 2024 12:21:25
I don't think it is just us to be honest. The whole league is obsessed with DeZerbiBall at the moment. For a guy who didn't win anything and wasn't here long, he's certainly made an impression on PL coaches.

Hopefully the league moves out of this phase sooner rather than later. It's pretty boring at the moment.

11.) 03 Nov 2024 12:45:37
Sorry but I love this style of footy, controlled and then pow fast as lightening. Yes it hasn't been as evident in the past couple of games but that's been against good quality sides and we are only 10 league games into Slots reign. Players are still getting use to it. His style has not been fully implemented yet either.

12.) 03 Nov 2024 12:50:07
"Are you not entertained? " ?

The sense of self entitlement is strong from the fans of a team top of the League, second in the CL and through to the quarter finals of the League Cup. (Read that in your best Yoda voice, please) .

13.) 03 Nov 2024 12:54:02
Agree with the lads above, yes its about results but watching it is turgid in the main, Im happy to see when/ if Slot gets any of his own signings in but at the moment its really hard to watch at times,
Top of the league and whining I know lol but Im hoping we don't get found out soon.

14.) 03 Nov 2024 13:01:40
Agreed JK. Next two games and then an international break will give a chance for the injured players to recover fitness and a few that are carrying niggles . Wins against Leverkusen and Villa would put us in a fantastic position in both competitions.

15.) 03 Nov 2024 13:06:26
Slots post match presser was a good listen.

He seems like an extremely driven individual who will keep pushing the players until they meet his standards.

Doesn’t seem scared to make the tough calls either.

16.) 03 Nov 2024 12:55:51
Need to start high tempo fast moving footbal

You might want a new manager then,
Slots style is well documented. It’s a possession based 1000 pass completion style.

17.) 03 Nov 2024 13:14:01
The controlled or Measured is here to stay and many of us like it.

Those who don't like it are still kind of looking for heavy metal which is passe noww. It has run its course and not sustainable in long term as proved here.

This style is an evolution and here to stay for sometime and we need this control to win titles.

Yesterday was super slow and slot himself said everyone who started needed to be benched based on first 45 mins. Good that he speaks honestly as he sees it.

18.) 03 Nov 2024 14:42:08
I don’t like it don't think I ever will.

19.) 03 Nov 2024 16:06:07
Couldn't agree more about the atmosphere, Monkey. I was in the Kenny stand, yesterday, and it was easily the best atmosphere of the season. In fact Slot said that himself. Need to create the same hostile atmosphere on Tuesday.

20.) 03 Nov 2024 16:51:15
Football fans are never happy.

21.) 03 Nov 2024 17:23:09
I think there are people on here, chespool, who don't actually support us.

22.) 03 Nov 2024 17:44:30
Didn’t slot say we won’t see the best of his football till after November?

23.) 03 Nov 2024 17:49:07
Rome you there next sat for the Villa game?

24.) 03 Nov 2024 18:42:52
I'm not JK. I'm there on Tuesday but I'm giving Villa a miss. I've a ticket for Madrid and hopefully City.

You at the Villa game?

25.) 03 Nov 2024 18:50:21
Get a grip will yis, were top of the league with a team still only getting used to the manager. Scary that we are only going to get better.

26.) 03 Nov 2024 20:24:03
We're a work in progress. Still a lot of room to grow and for the manager to get better used to his system and demands. We can't really do that effectively with how thick and fast games are coming right now.

Last night, I knew we weren't going to winthe game by outplaying Brighton cos that wasn't going to happen. I told myself that if we were going to win the game, we were going to have to up the tempo, take some risks and out work them. Ironically, Slot said the exact same thing in his post match.

At the end of the day with both City and Arsenal losing (which is kinda knew they would), it was imperative that we et the points and we did at least to keep the momentum going.

On to Leverkusen and hopefully, a HUGE reception for our boy.

27.) 03 Nov 2024 21:50:52
Rome the opposite mate. There for villa but couldn’t get Leverkusen or Real Madrid tickets.

28.) 03 Nov 2024 22:10:12
Rome yes mate at the Villa game.

Not been able to get any CL tickets as I was on holiday for the first CL home game so I wasn’t able to bid and now they go to previous CL attendees first.

Wanted to know everyone’s thoughts on Luis Diaz this season. Especially Ed001.

Since his injury it generally looked like he was struggling (his offensive contribution took a complete nosedive) . Of late however he has looked pretty good, popping up with goals and assists and generally running his socks off whilst constantly probing in attack.

He doesn’t look quite what he was when he first joined (he looked like a genuine world beater), but do we think he is the right choice at LW for the foreseeable future? He’s only 27 and has a fair few years left in him.

My general concern is that he seems to have lost his explosive burst of speed which made him so difficult to defend, similar to Mane when he lost his explosiveness towards the latter stages of his Liverpool career. Perhaps it was just a complete knock of confidence, it took VVD almost 2 full seasons to get over his knee injury it seemed.

Cheers!

MonkeyMad

{Ed001's Note - it is difficult to say what the future will hold for him once Klopp goes. The new man might want a totally different approach from his wide players. He is coming back to something approaching his best and there are always options to replace him which means he can't let his standards slip. I see no reason to replace him when we have the long term future of VVD and Salah to consider. I like that he and his family have become a part of the club and that can be a spur to his performances for the long term.}

1.) 06 Mar 2024 07:38:39
Just wish he would cross more.

2.) 06 Mar 2024 08:41:09
Hasn’t reached his full potential yet and will only get better if you ask me. I think he’s a great player for how we play.

3.) 06 Mar 2024 09:20:41
He’s an essential part of the team and squad. He gives something different than all of the other forwards. People get hung up on his goal return and compare him to Mane but we play a different way now with a proper number 9 instead of the false 9 with the wide forwards inverting.

We really missed Diaz last season because we had no press from the left forward position. His work off the ball is just as important as his work on it.

The only way we should look to replace him is if he wants to leave. Otherwise just leave him where he is.

4.) 06 Mar 2024 10:23:44
Diaz can still improve his game esp. his end product creatively-speaking, just like Gakpo and all our forwards can in diff. areas. Apart from that, He is a threat and a pain to play against and he never stops coming at you. No issues with him, personally.

5.) 06 Mar 2024 11:42:07
I love Diaz, you can't fault his work rate and the effort he puts in. I do feel sometimes he can be a little frustrating when not picking the right pass or maybe when he should be taking a shot on a little earlier but tbh, with what he's been through this season it's not really surprising he has off days. He scores and assists well. I'd like to see him play on the right as and when Mo decides to leave and then play Jota or Gakpo on the right with Nunez through the middle.

6.) 06 Mar 2024 11:50:09
*Sorry, I meant play Jota/ Gakpo on the left.

7.) 06 Mar 2024 14:54:35
FOr me Lucho just doesn't have the football brain. He dosen't get himself into the right spot for that breaking ball or pull back. I love his energy and effort but he should be more switched on.

I'm not sure about the rhetoric of linking the club with good players to appease the fans. Liverpool had a £100mil+ bid accepted last year for Caicedo. Was that all a ruse involving Chelsea and Brighton?!

Zubimendi is the top target and is someone Liverpool are actively pursuing, from the reports it seems we are in discussions with his agent etc (not just any reports too, the most reliable in sporting journalism) . Ater a summer of reports only being released weeks after events (Endo rejected bid, Carvalho rejected bid and the news around Antony Gordon with deals involving both Gomez and Quansah) it would surprise me if the club let this information get out if they weren't somewhat confident.

I think it has a high chance of not happening too might I add, Zubimendi has rejected Barcelona, Arsenal and Bayern Munich and recently committed his future to Real Socieldad. The release clause would likely not be the sticking point as displayed with Szoboszlai last season (more expensive) but Zubimendi has spent his whole life there - think of it similar to if Trent was to leave Liverpool.

Fingers crossed anyway, quality player and a great age.

William Pacho has been mentioned by Fabrizio and other top tier journos, including Ed002, that one seems almost nailed on.

Interested who the fella of Spanish descent is. Guess we will wait and see, as it’s only potential perhaps it’s not as advanced as Pacho?

Great rumour though, hopefully you can clarify on the Spaniard!

Not to claim I know Duran or anything like that, but I had an interesting conversation with an employee of Villa (not going to narrow it down! ) in a pub about the young Colombian.

Effectively I got told he’s a bit immature and has let the money and attention get to his head. He described it as a kid on £50-100k a week, too much money for someone who’s far too young and immature to be receiving it. No specific and didn’t dig him out as such but heavily alluded that he’s got a fair bit of maturing and growing up to do and can be a bit of a problem child in training etc.

Nothing else to add really. It supports what everyone else has said about him. Maybe he will kick on - let’s see!

I genuinely think both would be the ideal situation here.

Kone is far more defensive minded than Thuram, that being said he's a far better dribbler than Thuram. His passes are generally much safer and more risk adverse than Thuram too, making me think he would be better suited to a deeper role. Currently in Gladbach he doesn't play as a sole holding DM, he is often seen breaking the line and driving forward upfield.

Thuram is an all rounder. I think he'd be a great B2B player. He has the athleticism to get around the pitch and has a far more nuanced attacking ability than Kone. He, too, is a very good ball carrier (largely owed to good technical ability and size, 6'4, which means he's very hard to dislodge) .

Out of them both, if stuck for choice, Thuram would be the obvious choice. He has been consistently excellent for Nice this season and has made it into the Ligue 1 team of the season, coming off the back of a good season prior. Extremely versatile too, he could easily be a success playing as a lone 6, as he has done in previous seasons. Kone is a better defender per say but lacks the all around game of Thuram. He's also not as athletic, I wouldn't say he's slow but he certainly lacks the pace of Thuram (although both are excellent at covering ground) .

I don't think it would have to be 'either or' as they are similar in some aspects but have played in completely different set ups and operate in different positions.

My preference though would be that of Thuram and then test Southamptons resolve for Lavia. I think that would be an excellent window (in terms of recruiting midfielders) .

I think Mac Allister is a great signing. He's not the fastest but he's a very intelligent footballer.

In the last year, since moving into a deeper role, he's been excellent in the defensive aspects of the game too. Versatile player also which helps a lot.

On the ball is where he's really impressive. Excellent at keeping possession, can beat a man in the dribble and good with the passes.

Looking forward to watching him with us. He has all the tools to be a great player. My only slight concern is a relative lack of pace, however this shouldn't be an issue with the right players around him (as shown in Brighton's current set up with a mobile midfielder in Caicedo next to him) .

I'm not sure this is entirely accurate. The most reliable journalists out there (including Liverpool briefed journos) have consistently been saying that AT-LEAST two midfielders are arriving with the majority stating Liverpool are looking for a minimum of three midfielders. They've also stated AT-LEAST one defensive incoming with a possibility for more.

Fabrizio has been on the money of late with Liverpool and has stated he expects three midfielders, one CB and potentially a fullback.

Paul Joyce has stated a minimum of two midfielders with Klopp further looking at defensive signings.

The most reliable French Journo for L'equipe has stated a minimum of three midfielders.

I think for the first time in a fair few years we might be in for a very busy transfer window. Let's see. Just have faith in the recruitment team. They have a very good hit rate in general (apart from last summer) and I expect that to continue.

I think we should keep Nunez. He's undoubtedly raw, as proven by his performances all season, but I think he will turn into a star.

His physical attributes alone are a standout and he often gets into good positions. His return is also promising averaging a goal involvement every 120 minutes or so.

He's a player that relies on confidence hugely and there's no doubt that's been lacking slightly this season. It's a case of sticking with him and ensuring we support him, at Benfica he was hit or miss in his first season and then absolutely exploded in his second. I think he himself has eluded to this. With a pre-season under his belt and all of the talent around him I'm absolutely sure he will thrive and become hugely important for us.

What he needs however is the fans to get behind him. There's no doubt he's working hard in training and on the pitch he gives it his all. That's all you can ask for really!
