Trent is no Legend Hoody. He was a good player for us but did he really do enough to be called a legend?
Legends are Shankly, Paisley, Dalglish, Klopp and on the playing side Hansen, Dalglish, Rush, Gerrard, St John, Liddle, Hunt, Callaghan.
Trent doesn’t even come close to any of those legends and there’s at least another 50 players I could mention that deserve legend status before I even think about Trent.
He was a good, home grown player. Nothing more. If he’d stayed for his entire career and been one of our highest appearance makers then we could possibly talk. As it is we’ll all have forgotten about him in 6 months time.
I’ve nearly forgotten about him already.

There are very few legends in the world, if any at all in football. Off the top of my head there is Druss the Legend and Legend of the Overfiend.
And maybe be Achilles but he was terrible at back-heeling ….

The bar for being a legend is higher than just winning trophies with us, no matter how instrumental you were. Being a legend reflects your personal conduct with the club as much as it reflects your achievements. Trent was on the way to being a legend until his hollow antics got in the way. If went to Madrid with grace and dignity then it'd be a different story.

I agree that TAA is a eg end and we all know what is at the top of a leg end - that is what he is (and always has been) for me. I honestly believe that Liverpool won't miss him and that he will be back in the Premier League within a couple of seasons!

I've been watching the Reds since the 1950s and been a season ticket holder since 1963 and I can assure you that there have been at least 2 right backs who are far better players than TAA
1 Chris Lawler the silent night. 61 goals from right back and all from open play
2. Phil Neal 8 league titles and 41 goals from right back. Also he played over 350 consecutive league games games.
These guys are legends. TAA compares with Steve Nicol and Rob Jones.

Exactly. How can the club sanction new 4-6 year contracts for virtually half the team with Klopp unhappy (and the club would know it if he was)? If anything, it can even indicate he will extend his own deal. It's a huge risk re-signing all these players and having a new manager come in and wanting players of his own choice.

Players will sign contracts for the club not always the manager, he probably isn't 100% happy, he does miracles on a tiny budget and hardly gets backing when delivering, he has hinted before about lack of money but it's ok FSG saved us.

Some of that just sounds like paranoid babble. Like it or not, City were found not guilty. LFC/ FSG are trying to run a business in line with the FFP restrictions and by trying not to spend significantly more than their income, which is eminently sensible.

A question for ed1 and 2 if I may. With the recent failings of this breakaway league do you still think that something will change in football? Personally I think something had to give with the rising transfer fees, agents fees and players wages all becoming silly. For me that's where things need to change first and then probably fifa/ eufa and the fa need to change and become a little more translucent on their dealings. Money is ruining football and I can only see it getting worse. I'd be interested to hear your views on how to improve it and if you actually think it will improve or get worse.

I wonder if the higher end players may look to run down their contracts so that moves are still possible. Clubs are still looking for top end money that doesn't seem to be available.

All running down contracts will do is move the money into agent fees and higher wages. What needs to happen first is that it should be made compulsory that a player pays their agent fees. I honestly think this solves a lot of problems as it means the player has a much stronger vested interest in who their agent is and when the agent goes in asking for 30 mill on the side the player either pays it or tells their agent to go f themselves.
It would stop at least one aspect where the clubs are literally being held to ransom in some of these deals to get them over the line.

it was just about security of income that's all. Look at the impact dropping out of top 4 has on clubs and the time and money it takes to catch back up.
It's just about money and when money is available wages, fees and transfers go up. Not sure how it works any other way.
The number of games needs to be addressed or this will come up again in another format.

Ed02, I noticed on here that you mentioned on here Newcastle were interested in Grenier(spelling?). After watching Lyon play on a few occasions he and lacazette have impressed me. Have any other teams showed interest in these players and would they be players that would interest Liverpool?

Anyone else at a loss how Elliot doesn't feature more? The last two games once he comes on the football improves. He offers more than jones in my opinion, what he lacks in speed he makes up with quick thinking.

Elliot, Endo and Chiesa all did well last night but I wouldn't be surprised to see all of them back on the bench on Sat for Ipswich.
It wouldn't come as a great shock either if Nunez also doesn't start.

Why do we have to put someone down to lift someone up? I love Elliott, but he and Jones offer very different skill sets. I would trust Jones to keep the ball at any position in the pitch. His ball retention is elite. While he can be slow to release the ball sometimes, as yesterday's assist showed he does have it in his locker. Elliot is more of a creative fulcrum, the only true around the box creator we have in our squad. If not for the injury, he probably would have gotten into Slot's plans earlier, but I have full faith that over time he will. Especially against low blocks, his quality can be the differentiator.

He’s done well in his last couple of sub appearances to be fair. In games when we need a goal and the opposition are camped in, he’s a good impact sub. He was bullied off the ball in our penalty area last night too though and it’s little things like that he has to work on to play more regularly in my opinion. Bernardo Silva and Mo Salah are prime examples of how smaller players can still be immensely strong if they work on it. I really loved his attitude after the game though. Could tell that he was well aware that he needs to improve to break into the team and I respect that. Humble guy.

He was injured for 3 months, and Slot is very cautious about working players back towards full fitness and form. He and Chiesa will feature more.
Rushing rusty players back too soon last season really hurt us.

He's made more impact as a substitute, hence the super-sub tag he's been trying to shrug off. Tends to fade in games, and needs to build his consistency. Hasn't helped that he's played multiple roles like a jack-of-all trades kind of a player, which backfires sometimes for younger, inexperienced players trying to find their place in a team. Also, hence had a long-term injury after making a good imprsession in pre-season, and has had to bid his time as the team became rather settled by the time his injury cleared up.
But he's such a positive kid and if he keeps his head down, could become a Liverpool great, because he's a fan born outside of Merseyside but has embraced all things Liverpool.

I want Elliot to get more minutes like the rest but i think the narrative is being twisted slightly.
Elliot did get injured quite early but he played 7 minutes out of a possible 270 and since he's been back he's been deemed fit enough to play 90 mins in the cup games but its said was being nursed back and only played 46 league mins in 10 league games that came either side of those cup ones.

In possession Elliott is great. Out of possession he’s too weak in the tackle and gets bullied too easily.
If he started every week teams would just target him and we’d be very easy to get through. Our system relies on winning duels and Elliott is very weak in that area which is probably why he doesn’t start games.
He’s great lad though and a brilliant player to come on when we are trying to break teams down late in the game.

I wonder if he offers a more offensive role which Slot prefers to use when teams are tired out later in games whereas Jones offers a bit more in defensive areas earlier in matches. It’s squad game these days as we all know, Harvey may work better against tired legs.

Banning loans would only work if we adopted a system like Spain where you having lower league second teams. Kids only develop playing competitive football and playing in the reserves isn’t competitive enough.
{Ed001's Note - or they could just do what used to happen, before big clubs hoarded them, and join lower league clubs. Those clubs can then make money off developing and selling them on and make themselves more competitive.}

Ed please don’t take this the wrong way but if I remember correctly you didn’t want us to sign mane? I know it was his temperament you had concerns of and it’s you don’t think Gordon is good enough but look how mane turned out.

But I never once said he wasn't good enough, Gordon, on the other hand is simply not very good. He runs fast, falls over a lot and wastes possession a lot. He is not the kind of player suited to the way Slot tried to play.}
