Was it Jorg schmadtke who advised FSG to go after Slot? There were reports of it back in summer of 23” when they were discussing potential successors. Just curious as to who was behind the mastermind decision that it was.

Murfo90

1.) 09 Nov 2024 17:47:47
It was ed2.

2.) 09 Nov 2024 18:30:43
I don’t think Ed02 advises the club @Aoe. Ed02 was saying Arne was very good and that it would be wise of Liverpool to hire him but it was somebody else who would have had the club’s ear.

3.) 09 Nov 2024 19:48:05
LFC's internal information and modeling systems advised whoever went after Slot.

4.) 09 Nov 2024 19:52:58
It definitely wasn’t ed002 because ed002 denied the advisor was a rodeo clown.

5.) 09 Nov 2024 20:39:09
Salahaoe I think that joke went right over WDW’s head mate.

6.) 10 Nov 2024 00:16:17
No bother sid19. My humour is an aquired taste. He is spot on that ed2 did mention slot long before anyone was linked. So bonus points for the info wdw. Now ron keague’s theory on rodeo clowns doesn’t sit with me at all. Its exactly what an advisor would say.

7.) 10 Nov 2024 01:12:26
It did - to be fair it was very early Sunday morning where I am and I was trying to baby sit two granddaughters who were having a sleepover (aged 4 and 6).

8.) 10 Nov 2024 08:56:48
Sounds like the perfect morning mate.

9.) 10 Nov 2024 11:19:26
I'm amazed you found the energy to post WDW. I have 2 grandsons of very similar ages and a few hours with them leaves me needing a holiday. Absolutely relentless high octane stuff, borderline hyperactivity. Being in 2 places at once is a minimum requirement in coping with their demands.

10.) 10 Nov 2024 13:02:54
It was me who advised us to go after Arne, right ed01?!

{Ed001's Note - er no.}

11.) 11 Nov 2024 16:50:48
I think it was John W. Henry who made the final decision to hire Arne Slot after reviewing tons of data amongst other attributes such as personality, experience etc.

Henry is very, very analytical. It was what was influential whittling it down to 2 candidates last time: Jurgen Klopp or Carlo Ancelotti.

12.) 13 Nov 2024 20:07:07
Sorry lad's BUT I'm the No1 advisor at the club?.

{Ed025's Note - i wouldn,t doubt that for one minute Barry mate..

13.) 13 Nov 2024 20:33:28
Thank you Ed025 hope you're all good? I really can't see Coote coming back from this. A referee is always meant to be impartial no matter what. Unfortunately nowadays IMO there isn't a decent ref out there. There was a ref in the 80's whom I thought was brilliant I must find his name and post it here Ed025 and see if you remember him.

{Ed025's Note - the standard is very poor Barry, i hope you and the family are well mate..

14.) 13 Nov 2024 20:49:09
Family all good thank God Billy. I remember Ray Lewis and Joe Worrel mate as decent refs.

{Ed025's Note - there have been a few good ones over the years Barry but the standard has really gone down the pan over the last few years mate, for me it coincided with the introduction of VAR and the referees using it as a crutch as any mistakes will be overturned at Stockley Park...supposedly..

15.) 13 Nov 2024 21:35:40
100% agree mate either VAR or just plain old refereeing the standard for both is shocking.

02 Oct 2024 08:52:30
Eds do you know of any strikers we have a genuine interest in? Not completely convinced in the ones we have at the club right now in terms of injuries/ inconsistencies.

Murfo90

{Ed002's Note - No, and it is not the priority.}

1.) 02 Oct 2024 11:30:34
We have every rival looking enviously on our front 6 and the firepower we have and we're here asking for more. It's so weird.

As Macca highlighted in the presser yesterday, we now have a coach who is working on patterns of play. Let the man work and see how this benefits the forwards even more.

2.) 02 Oct 2024 13:21:51
Cheers ed, not sure how it’s a weird question as we don’t have 6 strikers and I wasn’t asking asking after left or right wingers, just specifically strikers.

3.) 02 Oct 2024 15:28:16
It’s not weird Murfo, it’s a valid question and I agree that Nunez will continue to frustrate the fan base with his inconsistency and Salah I believe will move to the KSA next summer.
Immediately you think there are definitely 2 places to fill imminently and I would be surprised if the club was not looking at the likes of Sesko, or Simons and a Salah replacement, I believe Ed002 said the club are actively seeking a Salah replacement. I still think there are 4-5 signings to come in the next two windows.

{Ed002's Note - Neither Sesko or Simons have been considered as options.}

4.) 02 Oct 2024 19:24:20
The glaring hole is DM/ CM. We're well covered everywhere else.

It will be interesting to see if Nyoni and Morton get game time but I'm still expecting a new arrival in January.

5.) 02 Oct 2024 23:29:58
I'd like us to sign Jhon Duran if it doesn't work out with Nunez this season. I agree we need another Dm option but I don't have a suggestion for that role unless Zubimendi has a change of heart. I read somewhere that Bajcetic had been fined and dropped for Salzburgs champions league game for missing training sessions. If true then he's looking less and less likely to be what we hoped he would.

6.) 03 Oct 2024 01:22:11
We’ve conceded 3 goals in 9 games, that’s 1 goal in every 4 and a half hours again not PL and CL opposition. With Slot setting the team up slightly different to Klopp we seem to want more ‘complete’ midfielders, so I’m not sure about the out and out DCM requirement. On the rare occasions we might need one we have Endo as our primary ‘go to’ nan with Baj, presumably, coming back next season. I don’t see the sense in spending £50m+ on someone who might play less than a third of our games. I’d say we want a complete CM rather than a DCM.

7.) 02 Oct 2024 21:29:28
Eds, rather than asking about updates on progress in contract negotiations of VVD/ TAA/ MS, have you any insight into the level of apprehension inside the club that they will not re-sign? Is there a level of acceptance that they will not, and the club have plans in place for that eventuality?

{Ed002's Note - The club have players they are considering if any were to run their contracts down and leave and will continue to look at others.}

8.) 03 Oct 2024 09:41:12
Red-Will-is-1, I read that he was fined for coming late to training due to him misplacing his boots, not that he missed training totally. It's also unclear if him dropping to the bench for their CL game is tactical or due to discipline issues. He still played about 15mins in the second-half of the game though so I'm guessing that it was more tactical. Nonetheless, this issue of punctuality has been an issue, even when he was with us, so it may be a cause of concern.

9.) 03 Oct 2024 10:48:06
I just don't see Nunez coming good. For all of his moments of brilliance, there are far more breakdowns of play or misses.
You can't teach intelligence and patience.
The writing is on the wall for Nunez IMO.

10.) 03 Oct 2024 15:46:40
Duran would be a very good signing I remember being linked to him loads when he was still playing in the usa. Mbeumo I think is the most Liverpool style forward I’ve seen in a long time I’d pay big money for him.

11.) 03 Oct 2024 20:15:28
Hello Vango, nicely stated as ye can lead a horse to water but ye can't make it drink it sadly. One solution could be what Sir Bob said to Rush when he first started in the first team and could not score for love nor money in his first six games, like a fish out of water!

Sir Bob could see that Rushie would lay it off inside the penalty box, so he took Rushie aside and said to him "if ye inside the penalty box, and you don't know what to do with the ball, just stick it in the back of the net, and we will discuss ye options after the game" in other words shoot on sight and don't think about it, just do it naturally, and the rest was history!

I read all soccer autobiographies and got all the above from going to the Library, this was in Sir Bobs and Rushies.

Do you know how Rushie played the offside rule? it was very, very simple he said in his book "if I could see the defenders number on his shirt, and he could not see my number nine shirt, I knew I was in business! as simply the centre half would be in front of him i. e. crosses etc, when I could not see the defenders number on his shirt, but he could see mine I was probably offside! I get castigated for relaying autobiographies, but the football knowledge and football acumen is so, so true and always will be in any era.

12.) 05 Oct 2024 09:23:24
You can teach players to time their runs, it just needs repetition to reinforce the message.

27 Jun 2024 16:43:26
Looking for any update on players the Ed’s see as realistic transfer targets for us. I know you will have covered it and I’m happy to search if you could give me the right prompt. bored of all the paper gossip, just looking for solid info on who we’re actually likely to go for. Cheers Ed’s for all the work you do, must get stressful this time of year so much appreciated.

Murfo90

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any changes to what I have previously said.}

24 Apr 2024 18:18:35
Are we interested in either Bowen or Gimenez?

Murfo90

1.) 24 Apr 2024 22:13:13
I think we’re interested in anyone who could hit a bulls backside with a banjo at the moment.

2.) 24 Apr 2024 23:18:52
Bowen is too old. Edwards won’t sign off on that one.

3.) 25 Apr 2024 10:12:11
He’s 27 - you think a number makes a person too old - that’s (one of) your issues. There’s no indication that the club want to sign Bowen but to ascribe your opinion as the motive for Edwards doing anything is inaccurate, at best.

07 Apr 2024 13:39:18
Seen a few links to Real Madrid players I. e Rodrygo, Valverde but was wondering are we interested in either of these players or is it just rumour? Also with mbappe going to real who will they look to offload and do you know if were interested? Cheers guys.

Murfo90

{Ed002's Note - Rodrygo Goes (RW/S) Real Madrid have no interest in selling but PSG did ask for him as part of a deal for Mbappe before he let his contract run down. Many Liverpool fans think there is some sort of pre-contract to join them, but of course there isn't. He agreed a new contract at Real Madrid and won't be moving anytime soon unless something like €120M offer is made or he could perhaps be offered to Liverpool in an exchange for Alexander Arnold. There will always be interest in him and with Mbappe arriving he may need to make his way back to the RW position - although the wide positions are areas where Real Madrid want more depth.

Real Madrid have other players they are looking to sell.}

1.) 10 Apr 2024 18:23:37
What about Valverde?

Tell you what, since 002 sadly passed and left this site. there ain’t half been some riff raff getting away with idiotic comments on here. Would’ve been putting them right in there place and i don’t half miss that.

Murfo90

1.) 14 Dec 2024 21:20:49
We all miss Ed2. I personally don't think it's that bad what people have said.

2.) 14 Dec 2024 21:55:19
Fair enough, but I didn’t realize we were using your compass for moral navigation.

3.) 15 Dec 2024 06:15:52
Should we use your’s @Murfo and stop the ‘riff raff’ making ‘idiotic’ comments?

4.) 15 Dec 2024 06:37:23
Murfo the forum is usually pretty open and if a comment bugs you, the Ed's allow good natured debate and disagreement.

5.) 15 Dec 2024 11:58:08
@West Derby Wanderer3, I never claimed my compass was flawless, but it seems to do a decent job of distinguishing constructive input from outright nonsense. Judging by your reaction, though, it seems I might have touched a nerve—perhaps you’re feeling a bit protective of the riff raff? Either way, if we’re all fine letting that slide, fair enough, but let’s not pretend it adds much to the so-called ‘good-natured debate’.

6.) 15 Dec 2024 20:20:29
Not at all @Murfo, everybody is entitled to an opinion. I was amused by the irony of your initial two posts. Generally speaking, there aren’t many issues of morality that arise when discussing if the LB fouled a player inside or outside the penalty area, for instance.

7.) 15 Dec 2024 20:40:55
Thank you so much for allowing me to have an opinion, truly, your graciousness knows no bounds. However, if you read what I actually said, you'd see it wasn’t about morality—it was about the decline in the quality of discussion, which I suppose might hit closer to home for some. You’ve spent more words trying to sound smug than actually making a point, so if there’s irony here, it’s that you’re proving mine better than I ever could.

8.) 16 Dec 2024 00:11:03
You’re welcome @Murfo. Of course just because you have an opinion doesn’t mean it’s actually worth anything.

I’m surprised that someone talking about another person’s ‘moral navigation’ (whatever that’s supposed to mean) then says it’s not a conversation about morality - to me that sounds like someone trying desperately hard to backtrack on what they said.

Anyway, as it’s pantomime season I’ll start “Oh yes you did”. ???.

9.) 16 Dec 2024 10:07:34
Ah, the pantomime reference—very fitting, given your fondness for theatrics. Unfortunately, while the audience may enjoy the show, it doesn’t make the performance any less shallow.

To clarify, my point about 'moral navigation' was sarcasm—though it’s telling you latched onto it so eagerly, perhaps because nuance isn’t your strong suit. As for the value of opinions, that’s usually judged by their substance, not their volume—a lesson I’d encourage you to consider next time you’re tempted to parade smugness as insight.

But since you’re so determined to have the last word, I’ll graciously step aside and let you bask in your own self-satisfaction.

02 Dec 2024 10:47:46
Really hope we get some news on these contracts before the transfer window. once that window opens and all 3 become able to speak with other clubs, this site and every media outlet is going to be putting out story after story of who there agents are talking with, every one looking to grab an interview with all 3 of them, I don’t care for media gossip but this rubbish filters into the fan base and would be a shame for anything to derail a season like we’re having right now.

Murfo90

28 Nov 2024 09:32:29
Connor Bradley, take a bow son. Had mbappe the best player in the world in your back pocket at 21. Some under study. absolute dog. That slide tackle early on to show him who’s boss. Unreal performance!

Murfo90

1.) 28 Nov 2024 12:07:39
Made up for the lad. That tackle will be a memory for the ages.

He was absolutely everywhere! Gerrard-esque.

2.) 28 Nov 2024 12:15:03
Is Mbappe really the best player in the world though? He has been a phenom for France and scored goals for fun in a farmers league but i have thought for years he is a little overhyped. He doesn't take games by the scruff of the neck in the way that Messi, Modric or Gerrard have done. He has the ability to dribble at pace but, aside from that he's always seemed a little one dimensional to me.
Definitely a top, top player but best in the world? Im not so sure.

3.) 28 Nov 2024 15:36:17
I’d have to agree, I don’t personally think he's the best player in the world, goes missing in big games and is over hyped IMO but the way the media hypes the lad up for Conor to have him in his pocket all night is a big deal and the kid needs the recognition he deserves. The post was less about mbappe and more about Connor, specially when this lad is understudy to our main RB in the team and the one being made out to be the best RB in the world. Again the media hype players up but doesn’t mean they are the best in the world.

4.) 28 Nov 2024 16:24:23
Well I think he probably would be if he helped his team out on the defensive end, it’s pretty hard to say who could legitimately be labelled as the best player in the world when Messi passes the mantle, for a while Bellingham definitely looked the part his last season for Dortmund and last year, I have to say that Madrid missing kroos is like city missing rodri though, in my eyes he’s probably the single biggest reason why Madrid aren’t the same team this year, he might not have been ‘the best player in the world’ per se but probably the most influential and important facilitator that there was the last few years. If you ask me who I think the best player in the world though, I’d have to say salah ?.

5.) 28 Nov 2024 17:28:47
The guy scored a hat trick in a world cup final to be fair.

6.) 28 Nov 2024 22:42:05
Conor Bradley is the best player in the world. No question ?.

7.) 28 Nov 2024 22:52:47
It really depends on how much you value international football - which is pretty defensive, with knackered players playing with strangers. He’s been superb at breaking down those defences.

At club level, he’s pretty untested. The true greats of old excelled at both at club and international level - Zidane, Pele, Pirlo, Maradona etc.
But these days international football feels like exhibition football.
I think he’s on a par with Michael Owen in his younger days.

26 Nov 2024 10:58:41
Hughes doesn’t deal with contracts - RTFP.

Murfo90

1.) 26 Nov 2024 12:58:29
Doesn’t that mean that neither did Edwards when he was Director of Football?

2.) 26 Nov 2024 14:39:20
You would think so JK.

Ultimately, IMO if Trent does leave, it doesn’t diminish the love and dedication he’s shown Liverpool throughout his time at the club. Football is a business, and while emotions play a huge part, the nature of the sport means players are often faced with real decisions. The real question is how the fans will remember him and how he’s contributed to the legacy of the club, something that can’t be erased by a transfer. It's a move that many players would consider. Wish the lad well if he does leave but I’d absolutely love us to get him signed to a 5 year deal and give him the armband once Virgil leaves. We can all dream, just hope he takes the advice Jurgen gave to Coutinho and fully embodies the words of the great Bill Shankley “Liverpool was made for me, and I was made for Liverpool. ”.

Virg and Salah have to be extended for at least 2 years for this team to keep fighting at the top IMO. Both exceptional, rarely injured, I’ve seen worse players play later than 34years old in both positions. The fitness, professionalism and ridiculous talent of both of these players is apparent. Van dijk is 33 and Salah is 32. Notable mentions in their positions in the prem: at centre back Branislav Ivanović, John Terry, Jagielka, Toby Alderweireld, Tiago Silva all played until 34 or older. Forwards : Ronaldo, vardy, giggs, drogba, zlatan. I’d argue both Virg and Salah are better than all if not most of these. Point is this, you don’t get rid of players of this stature from a business point of view, you keep them amongst the squad and offer them new terms on shorter contracts.
