First of all just want to say thoughts are with Tom Lockyer the Luton captain. Hope he recovers well and his team mates are not to badly affected by what was witnessed.

Secondly, City have dropped more points, we win on Mo Salah hat trick day tomorrow and that's us 6 clear with dame games played and them off to play extra games half way around the world. Not discounting Arsenal or a massively impressive Villa but I feel we beat those two home and away if we play our best . A good win tomorrow and again next weekend and we have to start thinking this could be another title win ing season. You can keep your one game at a time stuff to yourselves, I'm going gto believe and keep saying it out loud every week.

If all goes well in our favour against Utd Arsenal Burnley and the ev do us a favour we could be 12 clear before we play Newcastle on the 1st . I think we need that kind of gap to them to be honest as I fully expect them to come with a 10 game winning streak .

But all that means nothing if we don’t punish their slip up tomorrow by beating Utd

Come on the red men.

2.) 16 Dec 2023 18:03:25
Massive game tomorrow. Must win game.

3.) 16 Dec 2023 18:32:39
We will win.

4.) 16 Dec 2023 19:26:23
Bit ridiculous to think we can just “beat Villa away” that’s silly talk. They win every game at home and away isn’t our strong point.

5.) 16 Dec 2023 22:07:14
One game at a time eh lads?

6.) 17 Dec 2023 00:39:29
Boom, love this.

7.) 17 Dec 2023 08:53:03
The best tactic is to focus on the next game and putting in a performance that will get us the three points. Then do the same again for the next game and so on until we reach the end of the season. If we carry on doing what we have done in the first half of the season, it’s likely we will be in with a shout. as I say, one step at a time and taking 3 points off Seven and his travelling circus.

With Big H not perhaps Shaw not playing I won’t be laughing as much as I was last season, where they actually looked like Laurel and Hardy a couple of times, getting in each other’s way, but I honestly think we are capable of putting seven past them again.

10 Dec 2023 17:17:30
Hahaha, Peter Drury has just said to Gary Neville " next week at this time is Liverpool v United ". Neville made a groaning noise, Dury replied " Will you be calling in sick " . Ha, suck an improvement on Martin Tyler.

Kimuraking.th1

1.) 10 Dec 2023 18:34:42
Hey, let's not count our chicks before they are hatched but that said, making Gary Neville look like the clown that he is whenever LFC v Utd discussions come up is nothing to sneeze at.

As for Peter Drury? Quite, simply GOAAT-ed.

2.) 10 Dec 2023 19:07:15
At the start of the season, GN said Klopp would happily swap our midfield for theirs
That’s why Klopp is a title winning manager and GN is a football pundit whose most iconic game as a manager is a 7-0 hammering by the opposition

As for the commentators, Peter Drury is really awesome regardless of who plays, he speaks football poetry, is humorous and makes the match experience a positive one, whereas MT can make you feel bread even after watching your team score a screamer.

3.) 10 Dec 2023 19:15:29
I wish they could do something with AI and have barry davies commentate on modern games. That would be good.

4.) 10 Dec 2023 20:21:26
I agree with you about Barry Davies, madman. He always said it as it was, an absolute legend and probably the best ever football commentator.

5.) 10 Dec 2023 20:48:02
*madmax.

6.) 10 Dec 2023 21:06:32
"At the start of the season, GN said Klopp would happily swap our midfield for theirs".

Sgnwa, you see this right here, is why I do not nor will ever pay any attention to anyone who uses quotes from "Voice of the people" (yeah, what that football? ) to support any point he/ she has to make. If Gary Neveille is who you need to quote to support the point you're trying to make then, you've already lost the argument, in my book.

7.) 10 Dec 2023 21:48:34
Olired, he was commenting on the original post where Neville was mentioned. Geez.

8.) 10 Dec 2023 22:01:54
OliRed you are the most opiniatted poster on this forum.
Bore off and let people have their say/ opinion
You’re not a scouser are you, that much is obvious!

9.) 10 Dec 2023 23:05:41
Well said shughes you'd think that he owns the site. As for Martin Tyler he would be saying an in form Maguire will be hard for Liverpool to break down, could never stand the man.

10.) 11 Dec 2023 00:34:42
Thatguy
Mind u, Maguire was player of the month in Nov!

As for OR, I really don’t know what I said that upset you, but hey, it’s Monday, a new week ahead and hope you are a happier person now.

11.) 11 Dec 2023 06:45:40
Is this site only for scousers? ? I'm not defending Olired or anybody for that matter, he's well capable of doing it himself. Just wondering what the criteria is over here to be participating on the site.

12.) 11 Dec 2023 10:03:18
To Sgynwa and others, you may have misinterpreted my point. When I quoted what Sgynwa said about Neville saying he thinks Klopp would choose Utd's midfield over his, that part is what I was referring to and making fun of Neville's comment on our midfield.

I was not making fun or going after Sgynwa or anyone at all BUT I can see why people thought that. Trust me, why would I go after someone for making fun of Gary Neville for making such a ridiculous comment about our midfield and manager? Come on, guys.

13.) 11 Dec 2023 10:15:54
Shughes55 on your comment, you are right that Im not a scouser (even though, I would love to hang out with them) . So here is where you get into trouble by not having a filter and spouting nonsense hence, outing yourself.

Now I need you to go, check with the Ed's and confirm to me what the criteria is for joining this forum and speaking one's mind (disagree or not) cos I did not see an "Only For Scousers" pop up when I joined over a decade ago. I'll wait.

You call me opinionated as if that's a bad thing. Or are ONLY scousers allowed to be opinionated and non-scousers need to pipe down and speak their minds with the volume turned down, according to you? I await your response with great pleasure.

14.) 11 Dec 2023 10:15:55
Yeah probably is misinterpretation
As I re read your message I believe I understood what you meant

I’m cool and I’m glad u r too
Let’s move on and continue supporting Liverpool, making fun of GN and hope it doesn’t jinx us!

15.) 11 Dec 2023 10:39:34
'You’re not a scouser are you'.

Mate come on, the majority of the site probably aren't. What's that got to do with anything?

16.) 11 Dec 2023 11:34:15
No harm, my guy @Sgynwa. I knew from jump that your response meant no harm and that it was I who did not speak clearly enuff. All good, man. Let's keep the positivity going and hopefully, we get a good result come next Sun.

@Salah, clearly the poster disagrees and until he clarifies his position on this topic, I will take it as him thinking and wanting this forum to be "For Scousers Only". It is up to him to either clarify? Or double down. That's on him and ONLY on him moving forward.

17.) 11 Dec 2023 13:16:44
I thought we were all Scousers, regardless of where we're from!

Inverness Scouser here.

18.) 11 Dec 2023 17:26:12
Do we get badges now if we tick certain boxes?

So if I was born in Liverpool do I get a special badge after my name? Sweet, tick.

If you've been to anfield x amount of times do I get another badge? Even sweeter, tick again.

Given that I was in attendance for “that” Barcelona game do I get the honour of having a special origi badge? Ed033 make it happen pal.

19.) 11 Dec 2023 21:37:20
@Oli - Kenneth Wolstenholme was the best commentator in my lifetime ‘“There’s some people on the pitch, they think it’s all over …. It is now”. THE classic comment in any football match.

20.) 11 Dec 2023 22:03:44
@ArAy a passionate dislike of United and Chelsea and a detached amusement were Everton are concerned.

21.) 12 Dec 2023 10:48:10
WDW, so it seems I'm probably more scouse than you since aside from the criteria you mentioned, I actually want Everton to do very well (but not at our expense), and have a passionate dislike of ManCity due to the means they've used to achieve their results in the past decade. Just want the city of Liverpool to do better. ??.

09 Dec 2023 16:36:56
Cant wait for next Sunday, sorry Mo Salah hat trick day. United being stuffed at home to Bournemouth. They are so bad how are they not in the bottom 3.

Kimuraking.th1

1.) 09 Dec 2023 16:49:31
Also Fernandes has gotten himself suspended now so there is literally no possibility they beat us.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke I suppose.

2.) 09 Dec 2023 17:03:18
I disagree. It’s a tough game against the old enemy who will be up for a fight.

3.) 09 Dec 2023 17:16:52
Course They can beat us, probably play better without him in team.

4.) 09 Dec 2023 17:16:52
I wouldn't be getting too cocky, we need to play better than last 2 games.

5.) 09 Dec 2023 17:17:56
Won’t underestimate them, but let’s face it. Amrabat is a shocking player and they’ve got the worst keeper in the league. Seven Hag is getting sacked after Sunday.

6.) 09 Dec 2023 17:27:10
And to think the amount of people wanted us to sign amrabat.

7.) 09 Dec 2023 17:39:33
LFC8 - This current United team would shirk a fight with a spider that had 7 of its legs cut off, much less one with Liverpool at Anfield. A worse Liverpool team beat a better Man U team 7-0 in this fixture last season.

I'm sure Klopp will prepare the lads well, and will tell them to be professional and not underestimate them etc. etc., but the only way I can see them getting a result against us is if ten Hag is sacked between now and the game. And their players have to look like they care so the media will blame their former manager and not them.

8.) 09 Dec 2023 18:43:19
We have played poorly the last two games and managed to get away with it.

United have enough going forward to cause us issues if we give them the chance.

If you think ETH is going to allow another result like last year, especially after today’s embarrassment then you are naive.

9.) 09 Dec 2023 18:46:54
United are god awful but need to treat this game with respect. We’ve been poor the last few games and will need to play better on Saturday.

10.) 09 Dec 2023 19:02:10
Scouse John, I couldn’t understand the clamour for Amrabat, to call him a very ordinary player would be over doing it. If we get shots on target next weekend, we’ll score and it’ll be a bloodbath. Their keeper is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. He makes Karius look like Alisson.

11.) 09 Dec 2023 21:20:48
Bruno not playing is a bad thing. He’s the most overrated player I’ve ever seen and the reason United are so bad is because they rate him so highly and build their team around him.

They might actually have players on the pitch that care and are willing to put a shift in without that charlatan dragging them down.

We’ll have to be on our game because this game could be one that the minnows from Manchester actually turn up.

12.) 10 Dec 2023 01:08:57
I’d expect them to turn up. We are there biggest rivals. There will be uproar if they don’t.

13.) 10 Dec 2023 02:04:46
I’ve got tickets for the game next week and whilst confident I’m also very nervous.

As they say football is a funny old game.

14.) 10 Dec 2023 06:52:12
Bruno getting himself booked so he doesn't have to play against us. classic ?.

15.) 10 Dec 2023 10:15:06
life has a way of kicking people in the nuts when they are to arrogant and cocky. Surely you guys know that right?

16.) 10 Dec 2023 09:58:44
@Beckers, seriously? The spine of the team is woeful. Onana, Maguire, McTominey (in Bruno’s absence, which is such a shame) and Martial.

They are playing without spirit and their collective heads drop when they go behind. If we don’t win it’s definitely in the points lost category.

09 Dec 2023 14:35:06
Elliott is a baller, wonderful goal. Still hope Palace go down they play awful negative football. However they should have won that. Never two yellows for Ayew, the standard. of reffing in this league is dross. It really really is.

Kimuraking.th1

{Ed025's Note - you are still getting your pay back for the spurs game KK, i dont know how long it will last mate but make the most of it..

1.) 09 Dec 2023 14:47:00
Kimuraking. th1, how were the two yellows on Ayew not yellow? He was booked first for dissent and stopping the resumption of play. The second one was a blatant foul by stopping a clear counter attack. Dissent and stopping a clear counter attack are bookable offences so please, enlighten me on how either of those decisions are not yellow cards? Seriously, Im curious.

@Ed25, I fully agree with you on that cos tho 21 points from losing positions is impressive while at the same time, it is a very dangerous and deceptive stat cos well, it is completely unsustainable. I get it, I'll take the points BUT nobody is pulling the wool over my eyes. We need to improve away from home vs the bottom half and fast.

2.) 09 Dec 2023 14:48:19
It was a poor performance from us again but we worked hard, had abit of luck and klopp made the right substitutions. We really need baj in or a proper 6 in January. Palace we're always going to be tough away. Great result. Elliot i hope this helps him to propel.

3.) 09 Dec 2023 14:42:11
Not sure how 25 they took the game back 2m for that pen when it would have been 2 seconds to give us that goal v spuds, rules are a disgrace and need sorting out massively.

{Ed025's Note - im with you danny the standard of refereeing is pathetic mate..

4.) 09 Dec 2023 15:43:56
Danny88232, I'm with you but apparently by the rules, the pen was being checked and since the check took that long to complete, they had to bring it back as that is the protocol. Now we can argue on how far back the play has to go to bring it back or let it go and I have no idea about any of that but according to whatI just learnt, that is the protocol.

The difference here is that on the Diaz situation, they said "Check complete" stupidly and as soon as that was done, the FIFA protocol (nonsense, IMO) says you can't bring it back. I disagree with that rubbish, as you may know but that is the protocol in this instance.

5.) 09 Dec 2023 16:19:54
But Oli there is no protocol if the VAR has miscommunicated their decision to the ref and the ref had carried on after giving the incorrect decision. Common sense should take over in this instance and the game should be stopped and the correct decision given.

The protocol is a red herring mate if they’d stopped the game to give Diaz’s goal they would not have gone against any protocols and they would’ve got the right decision.

The fact that they can check a pen for 2 minutes before stopping the game just proves it can be done.

6.) 09 Dec 2023 16:28:13
Joel ward should have also been sent off for hacking Jones down before the Salah goal if mk misses that's a penalty and a red and the quansah penalty was soft. We need a CB January konate was his rash self and Gomez only plays well at right back.

7.) 09 Dec 2023 16:39:36
I think we are getting away with it a bit at the moment. However sometimes you need the breaks and the rub of the green. Key for me is to buy a real number 6, and replace Matip.

8.) 09 Dec 2023 16:51:50
I think the thing Oli is the game is gone daft. He should at least have got one warning. There has to be some common sense to keep 11 on the pitch. In the second one there was a decent enough attempt to get the ball. And there surely can be a warning there.

Don't get me wrong I was happy for the red as it wasn't happening for us today but i d be off my head if a Liverpool got a red card for that.

{Ed001's Note - why should he have got a warning? It is an automatic booking according to the rules. I would be going off my head at a Liverpool player if he made a challenge like that knowing he was already on a booking.}

9.) 09 Dec 2023 16:57:02
Not a second yellow for me. We rode our luck and Harvey pulled us out of the ship.
The performances are worrying, but the results are perfect ???.

10.) 09 Dec 2023 17:05:31
I don't get all the talk over the 2nd yellow, he stops the counter with a tactical foul that's a clear yellow.

If anything I thought the first yellow was much more harsh as the ref could've spoken to him and asked him to get out of the way before booking him.

11.) 09 Dec 2023 17:11:55
Yeah ward was lucky mo scored as they would have been down to 9 imo . Ref wasn’t the best but I think the var or re refs we should call them where trying their best to influence the game in some way . All being said think we got away with 1 their today as we didn’t look like scoring until we had the man advantage which was on the harsh side . Both cards are debatable imo but I think the palace players where throwing themselves around a bit and flying in to tackles and play was allowed to go on at times when their was clear fouls committed. So I’m made up he was sent as he dived to win a free kick in the corner off gakpo and I don’t like that so sod him I’m made up he was sent.

12.) 09 Dec 2023 17:10:29
It's the rules I have a problem with Ed. I prefer what I would call a common sense approach. For me I think it's crazy that Ayew gets a red card for that.

If that's the case Arnold should have 100% been sent off against Newcastle. Another decision I would have been against.

I just don't think everything should be black and white. I think there's a grey approach. I get people will differ from me on this but for me its better than all the Reds and penalties we see these days. It's ruining games. I get that you can't leave a team tactical foul away but there were defenders back. Stern talking to in my opinion then a red on anything else.

Of course I always respect your opinion. And I get the problems with game management refereeing too. I just hate all the reds nowadays and I find them very harsh sometimes.

{Ed001's Note - I understand what you are saying and I would have no problem if you could trust referees to use common sense. But you can't. So you have to have it black and white or the morons in black make a mockery of things.}

13.) 09 Dec 2023 17:20:35
If that’s the case why didn’t jota get a warning?

14.) 09 Dec 2023 17:28:11
But regardless of mo. scored shouldn't he still be sent off and the goal awarded for hacking down Jones recklessly? I'm not sure on the rules but pretty sure he could be.

15.) 09 Dec 2023 21:38:36
The thing that wound me up listening to the commentary is that they were saying Ayew’s second yellow was ridiculous yet Gomez and Diaz both got booked for less and they said nothing!

Ed1 is spot on, in a game where decisions are under the spotlight like never before the refs are like rabbits caught in the headlights so you have to make it black and white or they’ll cock it up.

We all want consistency and that means a tactical foul that stops a promising attack is a yellow card. Unless your name is Rodri then you’re allowed.

The first yellow was very soft but again the rules state that if you make a move to block the ball it’s a yellow. It’s black and white. He stuck his leg out to stop the free kick being taken so he got booked.

Saying that I do think they need to take a look at the rules because all these red cards are ruining the game. It went in our favour today but we’ve had more than our fair share of games this season when it hasn’t.

{Ed025's Note - i can only remember 1 BP and that was the spurs game, the rest of the time its been payback from the PGMOL to make up for their massive mistake, it could actually win you the league mate, and i can live with that if we stay up..

16.) 09 Dec 2023 22:15:56
Davey - he didn't get a red card for that second challenge. He got a second yellow card.

Also Ayew was given a warning ages before. it was the first yellow card.

17.) 09 Dec 2023 23:02:34
Totally agree Mizer, for me the only strange thing about the game was that Palace didn’t just roll over when we showed up. Same with Sheffield, City and Fulham - you’d think that they’d know that we have a right to the three points just because we show up.

07 Dec 2023 13:05:26
We will be top at Christmas. I believe we beat Palace on Saturday, then win again on the 17th ( happy Mo Salah hat trick day to everyone for then), and beat Arsenal the 23rd. They will drop points before they come to Anfield I can see it coming .

Kimuraking.th1

1.) 07 Dec 2023 14:19:38
I think we’ve been top at Xmas 4-5 times now and only ever won the PL once from that position.

What I’m saying is it will be great to be top but if we are or aren’t it means very little as there will be 18 league games still to play.

2.) 07 Dec 2023 14:32:52
its a good problem to have, 1 game at a time if we get through this busy schedule top or a couple points off we are in for one hell of a finish to the season!

3.) 07 Dec 2023 15:45:09
I don't think we will get 9 points from the next 3 games. A 12:30 kick off, a Man U game after an away European trip and Arsenal after a tough cup quarter final. I suspect we will draw at least one but what is important is that we will be in the hunt at Christmas which after last season is almost miraculous!
What will be more interesting will be to see where City are at Christmas. Already down to 4th and heading off to the Club World Cup. Even if they win their 2 matches before heading off they could find themselves 6th by the time they travel to Everton on the 27th. Very interesting to see if they can claw it back from there!

4.) 07 Dec 2023 16:22:46
The way I figure it, 91 points will win the league this year.

So in essence that's 19 wins to go.

That's right. The train is taking off again.

All Aboard!

5.) 07 Dec 2023 17:22:50
Absolutely anything can happen between now and then, so one game at a time is best way to look at it. For me I think it’s going to be one of the best title fights in years with all three in the mix.

{Ed025's Note - so your ruling Everton out then?..

6.) 07 Dec 2023 17:23:39
One game at a time, people. No need to overthink it. Even Klopp said that he cannot think any further than that and with Matip out for the season, he muwt be having sleepless nights and prolly has no way of what will happen tomorrow, or in the Palace game, let alone being top by Christmas which to me, is of no relevance at all.

{Ed025's Note - i see having Matip out for the season as a plus Oli..

7.) 07 Dec 2023 18:14:22
Yep one game at a time. Arsenal have a full week to prepare for us we have a midweek cup game. They'll be fresh and raring to go.

8.) 07 Dec 2023 18:25:26
It’ll be very interesting if we’re still in the hunt for the title when that Champions League heats up properly and they’re all forced to play their best teams 3 times a week and we can rotate.

9.) 07 Dec 2023 21:51:44
really one game at a time

by form, we should win CP easily, but its an away game and our away form hasn't been great, we had little rest from the previous game, and its not a ground we always found easy, so hoping we can do our jobs

Man utd now has a small club mentality, so they may give us a surprise and turn up to fight, but ETH's away record against top half sides is abysmal, so hoping for a 7-0

our last EL game is a dead rubber, if not for maintaining so level of integrity to the game, i did play a full u21 side! or anyone needing a game for fitness, but i know it won't happen

the EFL cup game against WH is trickier. its at home, we can win it and be 3 matches away from a trophy, but next game is Arsenal with a full week's rest. will a heavily rotated team be able to do a job? well, if we are 4-0 at HT against Utd, maybe we could rest our big guns and still have enough in the tank for this without over asserting

after Arsenal, we still have Burnley away and Newcastle in quick succession. both are very winnable games, but we did be tired by then.

All in all, one game at a time, and i did take a 1-0 for all these games if it means maximum points

as for Arsenal, let's see how they deal with a buoyant AV, a solid but inconsistent Brighton and WH, and Fulham away

I would say the table on 3 Jan would be more telling than Christmas and who knows how Man city will react but i did be interested to see their game against Everton - how much the crowd will be on their backs, how tired they may be after coming back from CWC

it's a hell of a season to watch.

10.) 07 Dec 2023 21:53:43
“I saw Davey’s post, now I’m a believer”.

19 wins to go - let’s start with Palace.

11.) 08 Dec 2023 06:04:17
If Aston Villa get a result against Arsenal this weekend (and on current form, they're fully capable of it), it's definitely game on for the season. Only one third of the way through, I know, but it'll go a long way in making believers out of the players and fans.

12.) 07 Dec 2023 23:42:35
How so, Ed25?

{Ed025's Note - I was being a bit pedantic there oli. I just don’t rate him mate..

So many trolls in the comments on this thread. Go back to the United or City pages where you came from. How is it a mess? Liverpool were told MC wanted to join, they bid, he changed his mind, not their issue. RL was not valued at 50 mil by the club but due to MC changing his mind they have had to pay more to get a player to fill the DM position. If he goes to Chelsea so be it. We will get two more in before the window shuts.

Macallister, Borella and Gravenbirch. I think that's the three we will end up with and I'm very very happy with that combination.

In all fairness if we got The King and JR doing the match commentary it would be far better than Martin Tyler's expressionless droning.
His disdain for the club isn't even hidden in his commented now, but thars a whole other post.

Thom43, RR is far from a yes man. Hence why he didn't get on at United . He put noses out of joint by telling the club exactly what was wrong and how it needed to be fixed . I think he is exactly what Liverpool need right now.

I am waiting for the enviable, unfortunate amd vile backlash Jude will get if he decides to go else where or Liverpools low ball bid is not accepted. The usual disgusting Twitter racists will be out no doubt. Along with people on here saying he's not worth the money, typical overpriced English player blah blah blah. he's worth every penny of what ever is asked, he's phenomenal.

Chelsea are a classic case of money not bringing success. They have a raft of decent, but not title winning players which they have payed far far to much for. They are all on mega money and long contracts so selling them in is going to be difficult. They will not care about the loses, but other teams simply will not pay the wages they are on now so those players may not want to leave. Its a little odd that the owner there did not bring a quote unquote. propper football man in to over see things. he's been heavily involved in transfers from. wjat i've read, not sure if that's true or not, but just payed what ever for the above average but no better players they have purchased. The young lad from Saints a prime example, thick end of 60 mil for an unproven 19 year old is insane money. They are a shambles and I cannot see Poch being there much longer. Infact do not be surprised if buy Janurary he's at United.

Until Pep is in the refs ear at half time. Then all of a sudden hand balls and fouls are all of a sudden not being noticed. Smart old same old.

I don't think a replay is possible, surely awarding Liverpool the point that goal gets them and exsponging the loss to a draw is though? Spurs don't deserve to loose out it wasnt their fault so they shouldn't get those 2 points taken. It will be the first game in history that a point was earned for one side and three for the other, but this is the first tie in history VAR have messed up like this .

I think if Everton get beaten by Sheffield United next week that's Dyche done as manager of the club. You can't play 4 games, not win any including losing to a Wolves team who are odds on to go down after a disasterous summer, loosing all thier best players, not recruiting any decent replacements and having your manager walking out. Then loose to another team who are odds on to go down. They really need ot dog a result out next week.

{Ed025's Note - quite a few agree with you KK, but they are the ones that married the first girl the kissed mate, those with experience know how hard the Everton job is and i personally hope we give him time..
