Some noises about a David Otorbi of Valencia. 19 year old Spanish winger. Never heard of him, don't know anything about him. Anybody know anything?

Seen we're linked with a Justin Ellis in January. Just done the usual and jumped on YouTube to have a look at him.
Albeit the clips are his best bits and MLS his decision making and eye for a pass look excellent.
He's only 19 though so not sure if this is a first team squad buy or u23s. Anyway thought I'd share for those that haven't seen the links.
24 Oct 2026 11:23:54
Contract expires in the summer. American International at 19.Low risk. Our youth signings over the last couple of years have been elite in Leoni, Brughmanns, Ndukwe, Rio, Trey and Pecsi so I'm confident in any young players we're bringing in at the moment. You could even add Jaquet to that list.
23 Oct 2026 15:08:38
If Frimpong does indeed move on in January then is there RBS we are actively looking at. Reed was mentioned before from Feyenoord and is a Liverpool fan. We surely need a starting RB with Bradley as backup.
23 Oct 2026 16:01:21
Difficult to predict what we'll do at RB. Are we sure Frimpong will be on the move in January?
Purely guesswork but I think they will try their best to get Daniel Banjaqui from Benfica, who is considered the best emerging RB talent around. But Benfica will likely engineer an auction for the summer now he is on the radar of every top club in Europe. Can Pedro Marques leverage his relationship with him and maybe we could do a Jacquet type deal for him where he signs in Jan but joins in the summer?
Otherwise we have been following Givairo Read, Martim Fernandes, Michael Kayode, Tomas Araujo and a name that recently popped up was Ismaelo Ganiou from Lens. There was a loose link to the Barcelona kid, Hector Forte, who signed for Real Sociedad in the summer. Not sure how reliable that was. Reckon the Wesley and Vanderson links probably went with Richard Hughes.
Banjaqui, although young, would be my #1 target at RB. He has the physical attributes of Kayode but is also really good going forward, with a decent left peg. After that, it would depend on whether you go with Ganiou or T. Araujo who are more Timber types of RB that can play RCB too, Martim who is more of a technical player with a great passing range that can invert into midfield like Trent or Read who is more of a Bradley type of RB.
23 Oct 2026 18:31:16
Kayode please. PREM PROVEN. Recent starter for Italia with some great performances. not just defense but offensively Upward trajectory. Future backline of Jacquet, Leoni, Kayode and _____ would be top tier.
23 Oct 2026 21:34:26
Never ever will Frimpong be sold in Jan.
24 Oct 2026 03:31:55
@OP, there's a lad at Real Madrid who has, apparently, a magician's wand of a right foot. He's reputedly a fluent English speaker .
24 Oct 2026 07:54:11
WDW now he has ditched his Instagram girlfriend he no longer has no one nagging about being in pretty places for posting pictures.
23 Oct 2026 13:28:56
Hi all,
As I previously mentioned back last summer, Liverpool are deep admirers of Felix Nmecha. Sky Germany has today reported that we have recently been in contact - which is true, but he is not a priority target.
Liverpool want Lamine Camara and Alex Scott and are laying the groundwork for a potential double swoop.
23 Oct 2026 13:37:51
Really hope we can pull of the signing of both Scott and Camara, they'd upgrade our midfield instantly. Those 2 with Kayode would sure up our midfield and strengthen our defence.
23 Oct 2026 13:41:49
Cheers, VG.
Getting both would surely mean both Macca and Gravy's futures are in doubt.
23 Oct 2026 13:43:43
Cheers vg, would definitely boost our midfield.
23 Oct 2026 13:47:34
Macca free agent then. Simeone will be very very keen for him.
23 Oct 2026 13:55:13
Cheers for the info VG.
Would the potential signings be for next Summer or is there a chance one or both might happen in January?
{Ed666's Note - I think Camara will happen in January personally
23 Oct 2026 13:59:45
I would absolutely entertain the possibility of Scott in January although the top
London clubs are very much in the picture.
{Ed666's Note - I heard he was Chelsea bound?
23 Oct 2026 14:00:19
I think Macca's contract runs through to 2028 so I'd assume he'd be sold in summer. Grav and Endo both should be moving on in summer, with Macca likely to move on too. If we get Scott, Camara and Nyoni replacing them, I'd be very happy.
23 Oct 2026 14:29:42
We shouldn't be selling MF's to get some in. We are short of quality in that area. We should be letting the ones that aren't good enough go and ADDING to the ones that are.
23 Oct 2026 15:20:42
We require midfielders in January. Especially Camara. And a RB. A proper one.
23 Oct 2026 16:57:56
I would not get into a bidding war for Alex Scott which Bournemouth obviously trying to do. he is out of contract in 18 months. and its clear he won't be signing a new one. 80 or 100 M seems excessive if he had 3 or 4 years left. should go nowhere near it for that money.
Liking camara and definitely hope that's happening in January. and have to think about RB in January too.
I hope Grav returns to the player we had when we won the league in that 6 position. If he does not want to do that or keeps going on a run about i would look to move him on. although Mac has improved no end this season I still think he will move on. hand shake, thanks for the efforts. and all the best.
23 Oct 2026 17:24:11
With 18months left it will be up to the player. Bournemouth can try start a bidding war all they want but they'll have no choice but to strike a deal with the players preferred choice. Personally can't see anyone going above £65-70m max.
23 Oct 2026 18:12:04
May end up releasing Endo amd/or Chiesa to create space as we're currently at the limit of overseas signings.
23 Oct 2026 18:19:15
It would be madness to sell Macca now given the form he's in.
{Ed666's Note - I’d sell him if it meant we were getting Scott/Camara.
23 Oct 2026 14:41:29
Ed666 he could be Chelsea bound, but AFAIK it's not a foregone conclusion. I fancy us to give it a good go in January based off what I'm hearing.
{Ed666's Note - Got ya mate, thanks for the context. I heard Camara was coming to us and Chelsea were getting Scott. I hope your right tho mate because I think Scott and Camara would really transform our midfield exponentially
23 Oct 2026 17:42:12
I asked Ed666 the other day about Camara coming in Jan, he thought so, so that's a good indication were going to go for him. Fingers crossed we get him!
Thanks Ed666 for your answer mate.
{Ed666's Note - Love your username mate. I’m
Old enough to remember him play!
23 Oct 2026 18:35:16
I listened to Bournemouth owner today who said that they are working very hard to keep Scott but it will be no surprise if he ends up at Chelsea.
24 Oct 2026 06:47:43
Where does Gilberto Mora fit in?
24 Oct 2026 08:00:16
It was reported probably Twitter, that camara wants to join and turned down Chelsea and that we would buy him in January.
24 Oct 2026 10:01:32
Macca should not be going anywhere, he is a different player with Iraola in charge.
Unless i'm mistaken Mac Allister is much better and different player when Dom Szob isn't playing in the team.
Dom is still a great player but Szob, Wirtz and Mac Allister midfield doesn't work, Gravenberch sell him or replace endo on the bench.
24 Oct 2026 11:48:29
Once everyone's fit, + Scott / Camara, we must be running close to the PLs most expensive squad ever assembled.
24 Oct 2026 12:37:08
Surely City would still blow us away. Their CB's alone cost not far off a quarter of a billion. Thats without their £300m plus revamp of their midfield this summer. Like us, City bring in good money from sales though whereas Arsenal who again I would imagine have a more expensive squad than us are crap when it comes to selling players.
22 Oct 2026 10:31:04
If a choice between a 24 year old Quansah or a 28 year old Araujo next summer who would people go for?
22 Oct 2026 10:36:24
Araujo obviously.
22 Oct 2026 10:36:50
Araujo. Quansah is just not very good.
22 Oct 2026 10:58:46
Arajou 100%, its not even close.
22 Oct 2026 11:03:14
Definitely Araujo right now. I don't think Quansah is as bad as some posters have made out. However, in Jacquet we already have a CB who is 3 years younger and looks more assured than Jarrell, and if Leoni at 19 can get back to the level he showed in the 1 game he played then he has also pushed past Quansah in terms of ability and assurance.
Therefore, I think having a CB in his prime in Araujo, with 2 very promising younger ones who are also first 11 ready in Jacquet and Leoni, with Nudkwe and Ndiaye a few years younger is a really good mix.
Obviously another variable is whether VVD extends, and also injuries (esp if they are long term) so I wouldn't completely rule out us going in for Jarrell in the summer (when his buyback clause is a little lower), but if it was a straight choice between Quansah and Araujo, Araujo wins hands down right now.
22 Oct 2026 11:16:11
Araujo for sure. Really liked what he has brought to the team and when VVD does leave, it's good to have a more experienced head like him at the back who was Barcelonas captain. Our defensive lineup would be very young otherwise.
22 Oct 2026 11:28:04
Obviously a lot of things come into play. Whether Araujo wants to return to Barca, whether we sign a starting right (although both Araujo and Quansah have played nearly all their games at RB this season. Whether Virg signs on because if he does don't think either play at CB in our best 11. Quansahs homegrown and club trained which would be a big plus for him. Age would have to be a consideration too. The quoted £ 47m fee would be a lot for our club to pay for a likely back up.
Not really something we do. Whereas Quansah would still be a couple of years from even starting to come into his prime. Lets face it people have been planning Virg's replacement on here since well before he turned 30😂. Wouldnt say its would be as clear cut a call as some think. Araujo would probably get the nod right now but we are building a young squad under Iraola he brings young players on massively.
22 Oct 2026 11:55:44
Araujo. The only argument for Quansah is he is English and we need more English players in the squad, but based on ability and suitability to AI tactics it is easialy Araujo. Quansah is too laissez-faire in his approach.
22 Oct 2026 12:00:09
Araujo all day. Once Virgil moves on our back line will be mainly young kids with no senior leadership. Experienced player, captained a massive club. Ideal to take over a leadership role in the defence.
22 Oct 2026 12:03:52
If a straight choice, Araujo for the simple fact he's more aggressive that Quansah. Big Ron is hungry and full of heart. We like that!
Our future CB pool is looking strong with Jacquet, Leoni, Ndukwe and Ndiaye. Jacquet seems to be extremely mature for his age and very vocal on the pitch already. Apart from Jacquet, all three of the others will qualify as home grown if they make the step up as hoped.
Keeping Virg for at least one more year and taking the option on Big Ron would do the job for managing the transition period, experience-wise. There will be plenty of buyers for Big Ron later if we want to move him on later.
If you do choose to go back into the market for a CB, then you would probably be looking for a left footer that can also do a bit of LB.
Vuskovic at Brighton has been super impressive and the big clubs will be clamouring for him in the summer. But, we are so well stocked in this department already.
22 Oct 2026 12:20:30
With Ndukwe returning from loan next year, having met the work permit requirements, the question is moot, as the club were more than impressed with his ability. The question is about Araujo and whether we think Barcelona's buy-out clause price after the loan is worth it.
IMHO, he has been quite the revelation. Much will depend on what Conor is like when he returns from his awful injury, as I think Frimpong will be moved on.
{Ed666's Note - I don’t think we sign Ronnie for the money quoted if we do sign him we’ll renegotiate
22 Oct 2026 12:22:43
No expert on this FPF but would Ndiaye not be the only one that would be homegrown? Leoni was already 18 when we signed him and Ndukwe's loan breaks his homegrown qualification I think. Agree on Vuskovic though, top player.
22 Oct 2026 12:34:35
FPF and FM, Ndiaye will be HG, and Leoni will too as he will turn 21 during his 3rd season with us. Both would qualify as U21 for a couple more years.
It's only Ndukwe who won't qualify as HG due to the necessity for him to have an overseas loan this season as a result of not getting a WP.
22 Oct 2026 12:38:43
Ron, Quansah is not good at all.
22 Oct 2026 12:42:17
Zeddicus👍.
22 Oct 2026 13:39:13
Ndukwe would have 2 years with us where he doesn't have to be registered in our 25-man squad, as he would still meet the under-21 requirement. His situation would only become a problem in the 29/30 season.
22 Oct 2026 14:10:45
Ah yes, the loan will break Iffy's HG qualification. Good call, Zed.
22 Oct 2026 14:30:50
With Gomez and possibly virg leaving end of the season ndukwe coming back i'm sure ndukwe can cover Gomez (and then some ) i would expect Liverpool to target a right back (Kayode would be incredible) but links to project players like Daniel banjaqui have popped up.
Frimpong could be sacrificed if Bradley comes back and can stay fit ( if not I think theirs a possibility of both frimpong and Bradley both being sold ) and new starting right back and left back being targeted.
{Ed666's Note - I really hope we don’t pin our hopes on Bradley being our right back nothing he has done suggests to me he’s capable of making that position his. A fantastic understudy for sure but he’s no Marcus Babbel or Steve Finnan
22 Oct 2026 15:43:11
I like Araujo, he has big game experience and know how, can cover two positions and appears pretty robust injury-wise, not something we can attribute to Gomez, Bradley or Frimpong - it's an under rated quality in the modern game.
That said he's on big wages and wrong side of 27 so i think unlikely.
22 Oct 2026 16:15:39
Thats not even a debate.
22 Oct 2026 18:30:43
And yet it wouldn't surprise me if they went for Quansah at all Chewy. Personally at this moment in time I wouldn't sign either.
22 Oct 2026 20:00:53
I think Araujo is much better suited, and far more experienced, but I don't see the cub parting with £50m for him, though I think he'd be well worth it if he keeps up this form. Hopefully he has a stellar season and the club takes the option.
I heard the Quansah buyback is something like £80m, if that's true it's a hard pass. That would arguably be the worst bit of business we've done since Andy Caroll. Essentially paying Leverkusen £50m to take him on loan.
22 Oct 2026 21:05:38
Definitely attempt to sign Big Ron at a lower price. And sign a right back, move on Frimpong even at a loss. The guy is the worst LFC fullback I've seen since Paul Konchesky. I still think Kerkez will come good.
22 Oct 2026 20:43:23
I agree Ed I've seen nothing from Bradley but I think it's more to do with the lad not being able to put a run of games together. I think the talent is their he just can't showcase it and before you know it he will be in his mid 20s I don't think Liverpool will wait too much longer to fix what has become a problem position.
I agree as an understudy but for me we need to find a starting right and left full back in the next few windows as well as a few midfielders and possibly a keeper.
{Ed666's Note - I disagree mate I don’t think the talent is there to be Liverpool FC’s starting right back. Time may prove me wrong and I hope it does because he seems like a very grounded and decent person
22 Oct 2026 22:07:36
Quansah's buyback clause drops to €65m in 2027, Chewy. €80m was in 2026. If he turns into a decent CB as he ages, that is a good price, but I haven't seen it yet.
So it's a question of Araujo at 28 for €55m or Quansah at 24 for €65m.
I'd still stick with Araujo if he continues to impress and avoids injury issues - he'll still have 5-7 years at the top level left in him at that age (again, injuries notwithstanding)
{Ed666's Note - I can say with confidence we won’t pay €55 miilion for Ronald. If the player wants to sign for us and we want him we’d be fools not to renegotiate.
22 Oct 2026 23:12:08
Araujo, for me, without a doubt. After he scored that goal with the header, he jumped over the railing and into the stands. Right into the middle of 3 women standing there cheering, for the customary hugs.
Impeccable split-second decision-making. We need more of that in our play. 😉😂.
22 Oct 2026 23:36:47
Fair point Ed0666, happy with us renegotiating for a lower fee, especially as I have a bit more faith in our current corporate team than I did in the STC. I wouldn't want to lose him as I think/hope he can develop back into a £100m+ defender given more time with us and AI.
{Ed666's Note - I’d want to see him play as centre back a lot more before I would sanction a transfer. Hes played mainly as right back
23 Oct 2026 03:19:35
It's likely Joe and possible Virgil will leave next summer. I'd keep Araujo for his experience and because he is 'up for it'. It's not that often these days that a player celebrates with the fans like he did when he scored on Tuesday. Quansah had his chance at Liverpool and he fluffed it.
23 Oct 2026 07:21:27
I'll go with the manager 😛 but if it was my decision it would be Araujo. Personally I wouldn't blink at the already agreed price. He's worth that money in today's market, especially with the Euro taking a dip vs the pound. Convert the money now 😉.
23 Oct 2026 08:17:09
Dozens of comments and everyone is talking about Centre Backs. Do you guys realize Quansah has played as all of his six league games this season at RB for Leverkusen? And plays there for England as well?
I will not claim to have watched him a ton at Leverkusen, but he was already a good passer at Liverpool. Looking at his Leverkusen stats that seems to continue in regards to his progressive passing. And he has a highly surprising crossing accuracy across his time at Leverkusen, too. So in terms of playing out from the back he is much better than Araujo.
Quansah could be our ideal solution at RB. Whenever Bradley is fit, he can cover/rotate at Centre Back. But if we're honest, Bradley will probably have recurring injury issues throughout his carreer. So RB would be Quansahs main position. It would also allow us to get in a more offensively minded LB like Seys to rotate with Kerkez.
Quansah could be ideal for Szobo in the double pivot, too. He'd be much more comfortable inverting into DM and covering for Dom (or Gravenberch if he starts there) when he ventures forward.
And it doesn't even have to be Araujo OR Quansah. In theory you could get both and use Araujo in succession planning for the time after VVD at CB. Loan out one of Ndukwe or Leoni for as long as VVD is still here and let him gain experience. The one more ready is 4th choice instead of Gomez.
23 Oct 2026 08:33:04
Sorry for the double post, maybe one can be deleted. First time post and didn't see it at first so posted again.
To add a bit more than that one line, how about this squad for next season:
GK: Alisson, Brughmanns, Woodman
LB: Kerkez, Seys
LCB: VVD, Leoni
RCB: Jacquet, Araujo
RB: Quansah, Bradley
CDM: Mac Allister, Camara, Gravenberch, Nyoni
AM: Wirtz, Szoboszlai
LW: Barcola, Munoz
RW: Ngumoha, Minteh
ST: Isak, Ektiké
Could even be below 100m net spend if you sell some academy players on top of the likes of Gakpo, Mamardashvili and Frimpong.
23 Oct 2026 09:11:18
In fairness WDW when Araujo was the age Quansah was leaving LFC he hadn't played a lot of first team games outside Uruguay at all. What was Quansah, 22 when he left us? Young in fairness for a CB trying to come through the ranks at one of Europes biggest clubs.
Seems to have done well in Germany, Tuchel seems to like him too. If he doesn't end up back at us I'd say an Arsenal or a Chelsea will sign him up.
23 Oct 2026 13:24:47
Gomez and VVds contracts are up in the summer so there's a world we may need 2 new CBs.
Leoni is pretty much an unknown quantity at the min. We don't really know what he's like or how he we will recover.
So Araujo AND Quansah could be a possibility. I believe the buy out clauses for the 2 of them will be around £100mil combined.
23 Oct 2026 07:50:41
Ed666, there's also the issue of salary. He's on 205k per week now. If he joins permanently he will want at least his old Barca salary (250k per week) back, if not more to 300k. We already have 4-5 players at that salary level and the first or second highest salary payroll, in the league. (All thanks to your favorite 3 clowns).
{Ed666's Note - I was under the impression we’re paying his full salary mate? Either way I still don’t think we sign him for 55 million. Like I said he needs to play regularly as a centre back for us to pay top money and I just don’t see us pay good money for a limited auxiliary right back. Saying that I just love the guys attitude and so glad to see he’s apparently enjoying his football annd his time ant the club after his mental health struggles. Heartwarming!
23 Oct 2026 14:14:36
Ed666, it was reported when he joined, that he had accepted a salary cut to join us. The man seriously wanted out of the situation he was in. LFC is paying the reduced salary in full.
It'd be a shame to to let him go, but I can see the financial limitations and his "auxiliary" status being serious constraints. I just love players, like him, who join and hit the ground running (Ekitike, Jacquet, Munoz too). None of that "poor boy is in a new country" nonsense.
{Ed666's Note - So good to see someone who has mental health issues with a smile on their face mate..when he went into the crowd to celebrate it was so heartwarming. I hope he turns out a baller for us. Ballague was quoted as saying we were paying his full wages?
23 Oct 2026 15:28:12
I said the same re Araujo's buy option a few weeks ago, Ed666, but got slated for it. We just aren't paying that much for a 28-year old, no matter how good he is this season.
It was yet another horrific negotiation by Hughes to rush the transfer through. The buy option will be somebody else's problem next year. There simply is no incentive to trigger a clause that high.
{Ed666's Note - Agreed mate
21 Oct 2026 16:30:27
Hi all,
Zero truth to the rumours of Trent returning to Liverpool. Iraola wants runners, Trent is not that.
If you're pro Trent, which I'm not FTR, don't get your hopes up.
21 Oct 2026 16:54:32
I could have told you that, Victor.
Never believe it for one second.
21 Oct 2026 17:13:00
Yeah I mean it is common sense but you'd be surprised.
21 Oct 2026 17:23:50
Id like him to come back, but didn't think it was on the cards. I am sure trent can run mind.
21 Oct 2026 17:54:31
Cheers vg.
21 Oct 2026 19:57:24
In fairness VG, your track record is good. So hope it's another one you've got right.
21 Oct 2026 20:51:21
Brilliant news.
21 Oct 2026 20:50:15
Any info on January targets VG.
Lots of names being linked hard to tell what's a genuine link and just made up click bait these days.
21 Oct 2026 21:24:40
Anyone else show their age and have to Google what FTR meant!
{Ed666's Note - like I’m gonna admit to that
21 Oct 2026 22:44:25
I feel Trent can add amazing creativity to this team, we have strong runners & can stretch any defense very easily. I know his move has been bitter, totally get the sentiment but he is still a great creative player, would be an asset if he comes back. He will also have a point to prove that adds another incentive.
21 Oct 2026 23:12:45
Not for me. Taking away everything that happened when he left, I would still pass on TAA.
We have enough luxury players in the team, what we are missing is the graft, energy and discipline to balance the squad out.
Trent brings non of these. I was sick of his strolling around the pitch long before he left.
Tbh, I'm very happy with Araujo at RB. Hope we make this loan move a permanent deal.
22 Oct 2026 05:06:21
Like Nathan Jones, he's been gone too long.
Once you leave the Premier League for a decent duration it's very difficult to come back.
At his age, getting back to the pace of the Premier League would be too much.
We need someone who is almost peaking, not someone a few years past it.
22 Oct 2026 06:21:39
I agree with 6 gold; too many luxury players. If we got rid of Isak I think he'd make a lot of sense, but Isak is already a luxury player that doesn't contribute to the system and either can't or won't put in the hard work Iraolas style needs.
Not to mention that Isak just isn't making the runs in behind that Trent would be able to pick out with early crosses. There's just no sense having those two in a team trying to play the way Iraola wants.
22 Oct 2026 07:37:26
Well put Ron. I do like Trent but your assessment is on the money.
22 Oct 2026 12:11:47
If he was 25, then a path to redemption would be worthy of consideration.
But at 28, not for me. I think someone said a couple of years ago that he has the minutes in his legs of a 35 year old.
No doubt about it, he was a unicorn. We have been so lucky to have witnessed the passing ranges of Stevie G, Xabi, Molby and Trent at LFC. Passes that were often more satisfying than the goals they made.
22 Oct 2026 15:24:09
The Trent conundrum is a non issue. He suited Klopp's way of playing fantastically. If he is what Iraola needs, the club may be interested. If he returns and is a success, anyone with a brain cell will overlook the questionable nature of his departure.
22 Oct 2026 15:45:08
He'll end up at Tottenham worse case scenario, Chelsea best case - big wages which Liverpool won't pay so it'll be a money club who can afford the risk.
22 Oct 2026 16:16:18
Media pushes this nonsense story every chance they get.
22 Oct 2026 16:17:20
The lad thought he'd get the fame of Bellingham and the brand deals of Beckham. Maybe he'll be learning German next.
23 Oct 2026 03:22:53
I looked up FDR by mistake and learnt all about an American President 😳.

Syndication for Bhatia/Bezos Consortium has begun across various channels, initially through family and friends and now progressing into selling on private banks. Expect them to take majority of Liverpool after this fund raise closes.
Will try to get more information and numbers if needed on the actual fund raise.
23 Oct 2026 11:31:06
Maybe the 19 year old Ndukwe?
lol kidding.
seriously tho, Ndukwe will come back next season and be ready to compete in the first team squad.
VVD to sign on. then we have a group of Jacquet, VVD, Leoni and Ndukwe. Very young group.
I'd go for Araujo on for his experience. essentially he'd take Gomez's role as the versatile defender.
{Ed025's Note - how do you work out that Gomez is versatile Faith? He’s never bloody fit..
20 Oct 2026 19:43:48
Hi all,
Virgil is in progressive talks with the club over a potential deal renewal. Iraola has made it clear he does not want to the let the skipper depart at the end of the season. However, nothing is guaranteed at the moment.
I lean towards an extension, personally.
20 Oct 2026 19:50:48
For me, our greatest-ever defender and an incredible professional who still has plenty left at the top level.
I really hope he stays for another two years or more and helps oversee the next generation coming through to eventually replace him.
20 Oct 2026 20:05:41
At the time of reading this, VVD has just had a mare!
20 Oct 2026 20:21:19
Red it was not a great header but if you watch it again it is not that far from Alisson's starting position but he moves towards Virgil something he would not have seen.
And fatspanishwaiter he is not better than Hansen.
20 Oct 2026 21:04:35
Disagree grino, vvd is better than Hansen mind you, Alan is 71.
20 Oct 2026 21:47:31
I would very much like VVD to move on. He is no longer good enough. He is not a good captain and his mistakes are costing us nearly every week.
20 Oct 2026 21:49:56
As much I hate to say it, VVD is done. He's all over the place at the back and Jacquet has been making him look good, not the other way around.
20 Oct 2026 22:09:04
Move over Kirkez, Wirtz and Barcola, the cross hairs are now aimed at one of the club's best CB's. One mistake and . BOOM, you're dead.
As I said last week, I don't have the UEFA Pro Licence and tend to focus on enjoying the match. I have to say I enjoyed it again and I reckon Araujo is on his way to becoming a little bit of a legend already (has someone on loan ever had their own song).
I believe that most of the people on the planet make a number of mistakes every day, especially me. Fortunately, I'm not under a microscope and I don't have forums dedicated in searching for faults I have or may have. We've lost one of eleven games and we end up talking about getting rid of the club captain who is still one of the best CBs in world football. If he wants to stay we should be honoured and proud to have him.
Anyway, bring on Brighton 👍.
20 Oct 2026 22:36:34
I haven't liked VVD's performances for a number of years. I actually think Barcola has done great since joining. No issues with Kerkez, and I think everyone would agree that Wirtz has been poor for last 18 months.
I like to watch and enjoy the matches but it is hard when your club captain is so lazy and laid back at the back. He doesn't seem to run anymore and he has not been playing well. It is not a case of moving cross hairs. My opinion is he is not the player he used to be and not a very good captain. Your opinion is different than mine, and that is fine.
20 Oct 2026 23:47:20
Yeah, as you say @inbeta, it's about opinions and there's a really good cross section going on here - long may it continue!
Just got myself all hot and bothered that we won an entertaining match and the first thing I saw when I came onto the board was a thread about getting rid of someone.
Anyway, like I say, bring on Brighton - should be a good test.
20 Oct 2026 23:52:10
I'm curious as to why people say VVD is not a good captain given that 90% of what a captain does is behind the scenes and no one sees it.
{Ed666's Note - I disagree that 90% of captaincy is off the pitch. In my humble opinion he’s not the best captain on the pitch..He hasn’t got enough oomph
20 Oct 2026 23:58:46
VVD has been outstanding.
It's absolutely fair to say his best days are behind him though, mistakes are becoming more regular and his does not react well to a mistake either.
Maybe one year extension but if I'm honest I quite like the idea of Zabaryni joining the reds.
{Ed666's Note - I would give him till the end of the season and give him the send off Bobby, Mane and salah didn’t get.
20 Oct 2026 23:58:47
I'll judge our defenders when they are given real support from the middle of the park, as they're exposed every game.
{Ed666's Note - I agree and Camara will change the dynamic of that midfield
21 Oct 2026 00:12:36
I would not be against VVD signing for another year, despite his brain fart tonight. I think a way to judge how important he is to the team, would be to stick him on the sidelines (providing Leoni and Nduwke are available) for a few games and see if we're better with or without.
{Ed666's Note - we have to let him go at the end of the season for a few reasons. Give him a royal send off and long live the king the king is dead
21 Oct 2026 02:52:56
He absolutely deserves a new deal, and the club should be trying to keep him. However, the captaincy needs to go elsewhere - Virgil remains a fantastic player but he simply doesn't have the aggression to be the captain. The issue, however, is that no one else in the squad does, either - definitely not Szoboszlai or MacAllister, and forget the other recent purchases. The only ones I'd consider would be Alisson or Endo, the latter of which doesn't play, while the former wouldn't be the right choice due to his position (Alisson is an inspirational player but he isn't Oliver Kahn yelling at everyone within a mile radius).
You need to remember that the captain is the only player allowed to communicate with the referee now, and having a headstrong, mean leader is more important than ever.
21 Oct 2026 04:50:32
If he is happy to get less game time then one more season makes sense. But we can't develop a new CB partnership with him playing almost every minute of every game!
21 Oct 2026 06:55:50
Yip.
Cant wait for the next player to make a mistake so that the knives are out for them as well.
21 Oct 2026 06:56:08
Who else in our squad then Lowe, has that aggression you talk of? For me every time Virgil makes a mistake now we are going to have people saying it's time to go. Still so important for me.
21 Oct 2026 07:05:21
Extend for another year. he's still one of the best cbs on the planet. We have young centre backs in the squad and virgil is the best player to have around while they develop.
21 Oct 2026 07:05:21
Virgil has not been playing well? Since when? He has been uniformly great pretty much every game except for the mistake and bizarre decision not to sprint towards the goal after that header. He has looked comfortable and assured leaving a lot of responsibility to Jacquet.
21 Oct 2026 07:38:02
Would rather move him on, he's a poor captain and he will want to be first choice in the team, I'd rather start bringing on the young cbs that we have squirrelled away, been a unbelievable player but he's still no where near Hansen.
21 Oct 2026 07:45:47
Virgil doesn't need to shout and gesticulate. He has aura.
He deserves more years at the club. Who cares about FSG or Bezos money? Virgil has earned it.
And with the newer financial rules allowing greater owner equity contributions, there's more scope for owners to put their own money in without the same FFP constraints. So let's not start pleading poverty.
21 Oct 2026 07:51:55
None, Florian. This has been my biggest gripe with the squad for ages - they're all pals who get on well with one another, but they don't hold each responsible enough when someone is having an absolute stinker or has started the game asleep, which is partly what explains our consistently poor starts, in my opinion.
The squad, aside from in central midfield, is stacked with talent, but it is missing intimidating and responsible leaders that demand and inspire more from everyone, including the referees who cheat us out of games.
21 Oct 2026 08:25:46
Looking forward to see what Leoni can bring to the table, who knows.
Virg is one of my all time favourite players and wouldn't mind if he extended but to say he's still elite level is arguable, i think he has waned in his age but still one of the best out there.
I would love to see him sharing a lot of his minutes next season with younger and faster defenders, give him a break and he can save that energy and power for pivotal games.
21 Oct 2026 08:43:43
Please don't be going on about this Aura "gen Z" rubbish. Aura doesn't know how to play the offside trap and Aura doesn't know how to build from the back etc. Aura is just meaningless nonsense.
As far as people saying 90% of what a good captain does is off the pitch. As far as I can see all he does is high five people coming into training. Hendo was a much better captain.
I think Bulk makes a good point though, and the only way to judge it is to watch the team play without him in it and see how they get on. I think he is still a great player, but he just looks miles off it these days and we concede so many silly soft goals. But Him and Allison should be screaming at the midfield. That doesn't seem to happen. The midfield is a completely different story. I'll save that for another day.
21 Oct 2026 08:46:15
Although his level has dropped there's probably only half a dozen better CBs than VVD in the Premier League, and they'd cost big money. Depending on the thoughts about Leoni or other CB options in reserve it's probably better to keep Virg for one more season if we can.
He's also the type of guy to keep around the club once he's finished playing, he's a great.
21 Oct 2026 08:53:46
In my humble opinion, we are witnessing the inevitable decline of a once great player. VVD's current performances are not of the standard that they were a couple of years ago, and the decline will only become more rapid.
It's time to recognise the need to turn the page and start a new chapter.
21 Oct 2026 09:28:36
#Cough Salah #Cough . it is less than a week ago that we were all saying we shouldn't have let Salah go. Is history going to repeat itself?
Just because somebody isn't the absolute best in his position in the world anymore isn't necessarily, in itself, a reason to show them the door. Let's see how the season pans out and see what AI thinks / wants.
21 Oct 2026 09:32:45
What half a dozen are better than Virgil clear view?
21 Oct 2026 10:48:27
VVD - starts for every football team on the planet - some of you lot need to put the pipe down an go speak to FRANK.
21 Oct 2026 12:32:58
We are all entitled to our opinion, Crazy Horse.
Just because others don't hold your view, doesn't make them wrong.
So being told to "pipe down" isn't going to change my opinion, nor will it stop airing my personal views on this platform.
21 Oct 2026 13:20:03
Wouldn't think there's a half a dozen better CB's in the league than Virg. Saliba is, wouldn't be near Virg's prime but 35 year old Virg Saliba is better. Then there's a couple of maybes like Gabriel and Jaquet.
Honestly honestly don't think anyone else enters the equation. Special mention to Vuskovic as well actually, but like Jaquet it's very early to be making a call that they are better than the great man.
21 Oct 2026 13:29:22
Don't feed the trolls.
Great news, VG. Virg is still the best around and is worthy of another year at least.
21 Oct 2026 13:56:40
lol, are we still calling someone that is not a sheep following the herd a "troll". Flip, we must have went back in time. Thought I was in 2015 when I read the "don't feed the trolls" post.
Next time I will agree with whatever you say to keep you happy. I would hate to be called a troll.
21 Oct 2026 14:36:13
inbeta - I didn't name you :)
21 Oct 2026 16:50:22
Good to hear Iraola would like to keep VVD.
Good job that he makes the decisions on who plays and not some people on here.
Is he as good as in his peak? No, not for me. But if we had a final tomorrow, I'm bloody well starting him. He's still our best defender (regardless of if he made some mistakes last night).
Jacquet has also said he's looking forward to learning off VVD and that was part of the reason he joined. We have him and Leoni as young centre halves coming through and you have to understand that these players need a senior figure like VVD in the squad to learn from.
He had a bad first half last night but second half VVD was up pressing very high on the Villarreal attackers and that is exactly what Iraola has asked him to do — he is clearly essential to how Iraola wants to play.
Iraola will continue to play him. As I say luckily he picks the team sheet and not some people on here who honestly don't have a clue.
21 Oct 2026 10:37:55
If we could keep VVD and move the armband with no friction that would be my first choice. But it's so rare and difficult to keep a past captain in a dressing room and maintain harmony. (Hyypia to Stevie is the only exception i can think of). Agree with Ed666 - there's no on pitch oomph to him and it's not in his nature - he is the epitomy of calmness, which is great when you're pumping out wins.
But last year, and this, we need someone to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and pick up the intensity when we're in tight spots. I've never seen Virgil do that.
{Ed666's Note - hypothetically speaking if Virgil stayed another season and was willing to give up the captaincy who would you give it to? I don’t see any stand out performers? Slob maybe??
21 Oct 2026 14:34:26
I'm surprised at you FlyPelicanFly.
I don't think "Trolls" is an appropriate label for those who have a differing opinion to you.
Just out of interest, Ed666 disagrees with your point of view on VVD wanting to "give him a good send off at the end of the season."
Would you categorise Ed666 as a "Troll" too?
{Ed666's Note - I only Troll Ed’s 001 in our editors WhatsApp group. It gives me unbridled joy and it’s the reason I wake up for in the morning
21 Oct 2026 18:04:39
Posting that Virg is finished, is a crap captain and should be moved on is nothing short of gaslighting this site. Sorry if that offends the bridge dwellers.
As for Szobo being a captain. He'll have to get in the team first.
21 Oct 2026 18:52:56
Ed666, Leoni would be a stand out, he looked really good before the injuries. I do agree if our back 4 had better cover in front it would make it easier for VVD.
Do you think Camara will be at Liverpool in January matey? Ta.
{Ed666's Note - I truly believe Camara will be a Liverpool player in January. I’m not laying any hopes on Leoni it’s a gnarly injury he’s coming back from and if he’s not the same player as before than that’s understandable
21 Oct 2026 19:49:33
@FPF
I didn't.
Throwing insults around doesn't help your cause.
22 Oct 2026 06:20:17
Ed666 - absolutley I'd keep him if he was happy and it wasn't going to upset a dressing room balance. But I also don't think he'd be good with being a bit part player (unless he did it whilst getting his badges).
I think it's more likely he goes to an Ajax or a Como and winds down there. And yes, Dom all day long as Captain, got the drive for it and takes others with him.
{Ed666's Note - Ajax would be a good shout didn’t think of them but I was thinking he might want to get a couple of years of good weather in LA or Miami and make some decoy money coupled with a fabulous lifestyle. I honestly think we should cut the unbiblical cord and move on. In the British Isles he’s the best there ever was and the best there ever will be, apart from maybe Hansen but he’s gonna be a lot older next season and I don’t want him to tarnish his legacy.
22 Oct 2026 11:01:57
@ Clay - I didn't tell anyone to "pipe down" I posted CLEARLY that people suggesting VVD is a busted flush should "put the pipe down" and speak to FRANK (it's a reference to an old TV campaign)
As stated you are entitled to an opinion and I respect it in the same way I respect your ability to read - both terrible.
22 Oct 2026 12:28:18
@ Crazy Horse.
My bad.
I've never seen the ad.
I would have apologised for the misunderstanding, but on correctly reading the unnecessary personal insult about my opinion and ability to read, I'll leave it there.
23 Oct 2026 12:52:08
If he is to go at the end of the season, we should wind him down and see if Leoni/Araujo can effectively pair up with Jacquet, it's a hell of a lot of pressure to have just Jacquet as the most senior CB of the pairing (if Araujo isn't being sought after)
20 Oct 2026 10:00:38
BBC recycling 'TAA assessing future' rumours and linking him to the club again. If it were to happen what welcome could he expect?
20 Oct 2026 10:21:59
The BBC aren't recycling anything, they just report on the daily rumours what other outlets are saying and they reference the source.
In this case the TAA rumour comes from Team talk so make of that what you will.
20 Oct 2026 10:24:12
If he where to return I've no doubt if he knuckled down and played well 90% of fans would forgive and forget. He would no. doubt be big help to us at rb, Frimpong has been very poor and Bradley injuries are a killer.
He would have to up his work rate, don't think any walking about will be tolerated this time.
Can't see it happening due to the fee Madrid would look for.
20 Oct 2026 10:25:28
Mixed reaction is the best I could put it. I don't agree with how he went about things but I also understand he is definitely a tarnished name here in Liverpool probably has to do near enough the impossible to gain any love again from the fans.
20 Oct 2026 10:40:59
Forgive and forget what @Digger? He's just a bloke doing a job who wanted a new Jon and new life experiences, The ones who can never forgive being jilted by their first true love will never forgive him.
20 Oct 2026 10:42:03
We could use his passing skills in attack, but i feel better with Araujo in defense. Up to Iraola to decide if he needs those offensive skills.
Personally, i wouldn't take him back. He strung the fans along for about 2 years. Even though it's his prerogative to decide where his future is once the contract is over. He misses and wants to come home? Join Everton. Or any other EPL team. Let's see if he still gets the free pass on his defense that we kept giving him.
20 Oct 2026 11:26:52
I'd take him on a free as a replacement for ping pong, but only if Madrid paid his wages.
20 Oct 2026 11:01:10
He'll be 29 next season and already looks rinsed. The rat can stay in Madrid, we should look forward not backwards. Particularly to a player (and family) who showed nothing but contempt for the club.
20 Oct 2026 11:09:18
He'd be welcomed back, as soon as he lands one on Iasks noggin all will be forgiven. can't rely on online influencer Jeremy Pingpong and Bradley who's made of wet soggy bog rolls. A World Class attacking fullback would be welcome. Anyone that makes our team better.
20 Oct 2026 12:17:18
29 at the start of next season. Cant see it. Think he would struggle back in this league and he's picked up injuries over the last coupla years which he never did at his peak. Quality player but he made his choice.
20 Oct 2026 12:07:09
I bet the rat is already learning to speak English.
Grrrrr.
{Ed025's Note - i know he never left on the best of terms Rigsby but thats just the life of a professional footballer with advisors mate, i get you dont like the fella but to be fair to him he has just had 2x 4G pitches built in Toxteth for the local community and he pays for the maintainance as well i believe, i met him once at the Whitechapel project for the homeless in Liverpool where he was making up bundles and he came across as a really nice guy, i was never his biggest fan as a footballer but i think hes a very good human being, how he left was a bit unsavoury but dont always judge a book by its cover i would suggest..
20 Oct 2026 12:33:59
There isn't a single player at Liverpool who can pass the ball like Trent, some of them can't pass it 5 yards. No one comes close to his crossing either.
And has anyone seen the state of the corners and free kicks lately?
I'm assuming it's not happening but i'd 100% have him back.
20 Oct 2026 13:15:43
He wanted to try new pastures, so had he announced it earlier he still would have been vilified. Damned if he did and damned if he didn't. I'd have him back at the right price.
20 Oct 2026 13:39:35
Everything about that move was done is such poor taste for me. From the silence of the player, lack of fee to the whole smirky attitude of him and his family. Realise people will disagree but that's just me.
Special player for us but for me his relationship with the club is over. Think money in that position could be better spent elsewhere because let's face it Trent is going to want big wages.
20 Oct 2026 13:41:28
I was disappointed in a few things in him the season he left, wdw but no doubt a wonderful footballer for us in the main.
Never been jolted so wouldn't know 😝.
20 Oct 2026 15:43:50
Ed025, I was joking because TAA can already speak English and he was villified for learning Spanish.
I liked him as a player & had no problem with him leaving us to play elsewhere; especially another country.
And, besides, I don't agree with dehumanising players. There will always be some I don't like but they are just doing a job and playing a game.
Sorry for the confusion, mate 😉.
{Ed025's Note - its not a problem Rigsby and you make a very good point about dehumanising players without actually realizing the bigger picture, of course it hurts when a player leaves for such a small fee (especially a local lad) but it is what it is i suppose mate..
20 Oct 2026 16:04:00
Can we stop using childish nicknames for our players, like Ping Pong and Gravy.
It's a bit disrespectful.
20 Oct 2026 16:55:56
Don't want him anywhere near the club. Forget how he left remember how he downed tools v Utd.
20 Oct 2026 17:54:49
Love to have him back, Kinda what YNWA is all about.
But his brother though . Yea that's a bit tough.
20 Oct 2026 18:38:27
Never want to see his face anywhere near our club again, as already said, he strung us along for a good while pretending he didn't know what to do regarding a new contract, fluent Spanish on his first Madrid interview said all that was needed, he's a rat and can lay in the dirty bed he made, no club needs that kind of clown and I believe he influenced konate to do exactly the same, wasn't as bad as a scouser doing it, obviously, he's in the same category as Owen now, not wanted by the majority.
Glad your career is on the rocks, grass is not always greener in the other side is it Roland.
20 Oct 2026 19:36:19
😀😀 you say you've never been jolted @Digger? I'm shocked!
20 Oct 2026 19:07:13
Well said ed25.
20 Oct 2026 23:33:04
He was great for us. I defended him countless times against other fans. Would of been a legend, same as Coutnho. But both forced there exit abd will never be remember other than in passing
Id not take him back because of age, fee and wages.
Calling him a rat is a bit much in my opinion.
I also find ping pong a bit crude and mean. But Gravy? that's the best part of the roast, silly it's a compliment??
21 Oct 2026 07:38:29
Personally I don't see players who see out their contracts as having "forced a move".
Players like Isak have forced moves, but not players who play out their contracts.
I don't think Trent strung anyone along. Owen strung by us along, he was always about to sign a new contract but his agent was on holiday or his agent ran out of credit on his mobile or his agent lost his favourite pen or his agents dog ate the contract.
Trent never indicated he intended to sign a new contract, he just kept quiet.
21 Oct 2026 09:36:28
Notwithstanding the fact he's a rat in the same way that Owen is, why would any right minded person acting sensibly waste money on a defensively incompetent, injury prone, one paced right back? He's finished as a top class player. Madrid purportedly want £50m for him.
That's where the conversation should end. He can sit and rot on the Madrid bench for all I care. It's what he deserves, how's that Balon D'or working out? Childhood dream to sit on the Madrid bench collecting splinters yeah? As for the virtue signalling and pearl clutching, get a grip.
21 Oct 2026 12:28:57
Steady @Vik, you are starting to sound a bit bitter. "He can sit and rot . for all I care" I guess it's hard breaking up.
21 Oct 2026 16:56:33
WDW, the French always say that, "Love stories always end badly".
Vik may be suffering the same effects.
23 Oct 2026 08:47:03
Visions of VV's bedroom being like the one in Ace Ventura.
"Laces out!".
