Morning Gents
I've been told a new contract for Jones is due.
There is a lot of interest in him, and his agent has been talking with other clubs, but looks like he wishes to stay.
Cheers.
{Ed025's Note - nice one Robbo..
17 Mar 2026 08:42:57
Thanks, Robbo.
And, going purely on previous rumors posted on this site, I assume this would mean that a new manager is incoming...
17 Mar 2026 08:43:15
The worst news.
17 Mar 2026 08:52:15
Thanks for your updates, Robbo. Good squad player.
17 Mar 2026 09:10:26
@lfc1312, how is that the worst news? I think CJ is a brilliant squad player, he loves the club, always puts in a shift. I know it doesn't always come off, but he never stops trying. We need more players like him.
17 Mar 2026 09:22:59
Jlc, absolutely, mate. More of a when not if, a lot of changes this summer, im told.
17 Mar 2026 09:58:14
Thanks, Robbo.
Makes a lot of sense. Good versatile squad player, home-grown too.
I'm not his biggest fan, but a good one to tie down.
17 Mar 2026 10:09:27
Excellent news.
17 Mar 2026 10:10:15
CJ is a very good player, local, home grown, which is important for squad depth. We need more home grown players.
17 Mar 2026 10:22:50
I am in favour of keeping him. We need our Scouse in the team, or at least the first-team squad.
17 Mar 2026 10:25:34
I've been a supporter of Curtis for years. Not world class, but a really useful member of the squad. Always tries, doesn't hide, and is a local lad who speaks sensibly and coherently when interviewed. What players used to be called a 'great clubman'.
17 Mar 2026 10:36:32
Shouldn't be a squad player this year, should be in ahead of McAllister.
17 Mar 2026 10:57:50
Only good news is, he's British for the quota! Other than that, he's bang average for me. If he's happy to be a squad player, happy days.
17 Mar 2026 07:43:14
Hello all,
Richard Hughes will also leave LFC this summer along with Arne Slot.
Ta.
{Ed025's Note - cheers Carra, not before time imo mate..
17 Mar 2026 08:21:28
Great news, neither are up to the task. Does it look like Alonso, and any ideas on the dof position? Carra, any names touted?
17 Mar 2026 08:22:01
Exactly that, has been on the cards for a long time.
17 Mar 2026 08:22:05
Things are looking up....Here's to the future. 🤞
17 Mar 2026 08:23:55
Cheers, Carra.
17 Mar 2026 08:28:42
Too good to be true. I'll believe it when I see it.
They need to get moving, as we need a whole raft of players, with no management who's going to be starting talks.
17 Mar 2026 08:44:36
Carra, so does that mean Slot is safe until the summer?
Surely not.
17 Mar 2026 08:51:10
Not before time. In my view, there should be one leading contender to act as sporting director and set the direction of the club. His middle name is Norbert.
17 Mar 2026 08:51:36
Cheers, Carra, hoping we get the next appointments right.
17 Mar 2026 08:54:20
Summer?
17 Mar 2026 09:03:46
It makes sense. It was Hughes who called the shots on who we sold and bought last season. We need to go back to a manager/coach, not a head coach.
17 Mar 2026 09:36:19
I don't get why people are so into Klopp being our new DOF. Tbh I think he isn't suited to the role at all, or, at the very least, hasn't shown anything to suggest that he is. His choice of players to buy, such as Brandt, Keita, and Nunez, has also been questionable.
He has been our best manager I've seen in my lifetime, but I'd rather we go for DOFs who are also proven in their respective field. People like Txiki or Rangnick.
17 Mar 2026 09:41:20
Excellent news. Cheers, Carra. Hopefully we can get Gerrard in after Wednesday.
17 Mar 2026 09:54:41
This is not great news. There is no incentive for Hughes to sack Slot, then, so they both will continue till summer.
The damage by then could be irreparable for 2-3 seasons.
17 Mar 2026 10:10:37
Cafu, it'll be okay. The damage will last only as long as Slot is still here because, despite our poor performances, we still have an excellent squad.
17 Mar 2026 10:14:00
Great news ...
Fields will be doing back flips ...
Out of interest, anyone know if a replacement inbound .. or we going down the manager route? ...
17 Mar 2026 10:17:59
Very annoying, we have Hughes as a lame duck director after completely destroying our season. He then pushes off to a better paid job in Saudi. Where else can you get such rewards for being a failure?
Edwards should take a more direct role in LFC or move on too imo. This new model hasn't worked at all.
And the less said about Slot the better.
17 Mar 2026 10:21:24
I still think Edwards is an issue too. He is the one that should have pulled the pull on this s*** show many many months ago. I also believe that he is the catalyst that caused Klopp to leave.
17 Mar 2026 10:27:45
Go and get Paul Mitchell as a Hughes replacement if we need one.
I would prefer "manager" over "Head Coach/Sporting Director".
17 Mar 2026 10:38:34
If the rumours are true that Xabi would want to be a manager, not a head coach, then perhaps the easiest solution for sporting director is an internal one, ie Julian Ward. This would give us continuity, especially as this is the important period for summer transfer planning.
17 Mar 2026 10:38:36
Apparently he's not sacked; he's agreed a nice deal with a Saudi club.
17 Mar 2026 11:00:34
Hughes has potentially been off since last November, when he was contacted about the move. Chelsea's sporting director was a backup. Perhaps that's why we didn't really delve into the market come January.
17 Mar 2026 03:36:03
Not in the know never claim to be. But was at work yesterday and had a meeting with my colleague in Saudi. He told me that Al-Hilal is being brought by their prince (one of) and will be making statement changes with priority being Salah. Also they are discussing with Hughes to take over the project.
Pretty sure I read some Hughes to Saudi rumours on here so just adds up. Maybe it has legs. Personally I doubt that Salah would want to go there. I think he might want to play under who ever the next manager is.
17 Mar 2026 06:08:53
I saw some Hughes/Al-Hilal rumours on Twitter recently too. Could be something in it?
16 Mar 2026 23:39:57
FSG are strongly considering allowing the Future Manager have full control over transfers. This would mean Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes would leave the club if they didn’t agree to it. This was sent to me from a friend who lives in Liverpool. Thought I’d share. Not sure how he knows. 🤷♂️
17 Mar 2026 00:19:44
Possibly because this season the manager didn't get who he wanted or the positions he wanted. I am sure two wingers and a CB were wanted, as well as not re-signing Salah. Decisions were out of his hands.
17 Mar 2026 06:52:06
That strikes me as being a very bad idea, since managers and football directors are operating with different time scales in mind - one is focussed on the present, and the other is focussed upon longer term squad planning. There just needs to be more synergy between the two levels in terms of priorities in the here and now, what the coach wants or needs, and how plans can be arranged or re-arranged in response to contingencies as they arise, which is something we have clearly lacked this year.
17 Mar 2026 10:35:27
Not re-signing Salah? So Salah forced them at gunpoint to give him a new contract? What an absolute joke of a comment.
16 Mar 2026 23:07:15
Any rumours you are seeing in regard to Hoeness are false. The club had him on a list to replace Klopp two years ago. That time has came and went.
I believe Xabi is the man and Slot's time at the club is up.
Support from within the club for Arne persisted until recent weeks. Now, the club feels as though UCL qualification is in serious jeopardy. An early knockout against Galatasaray will likely see an interim step in.
17 Mar 2026 00:21:37
As I said before, I reckon he's got the next two games. Regardless of results, he should be gone after Brighton.
17 Mar 2026 03:57:08
Didn't the club have Xabi on a list to replace Klopp two years ago?
17 Mar 2026 04:30:39
I maintain that he should have gone after the League Cup defeat to Crystal Palace. Throwing that game is unbecoming of a Liverpool manager and was the last straw for me.
17 Mar 2026 05:22:50
For me, the PSV humiliation at Anfield should have done it, but the gutless duo persisted and should be held accountable. In a reasonable world, someone should resign already.
16 Mar 2026 22:48:07
Reckon an announcement will be made tomo am, with Giovanni as coach for the Gala game.
17 Mar 2026 00:20:28
Isn't he part of the problem?!
17 Mar 2026 00:22:49
Why get rid of Slot if the coaches he uses are still here? Perhaps if the club allowed Heitinga to return and bin off Van Bronchorst, we could have been a bit better.
17 Mar 2026 08:00:23
Couldn't agree more. Just something I received via text, announcement first; then Gio in a follow-up text. Would have expected Gerrard.
17 Mar 2026 08:48:39
If Slot was going to be sacked it would have happened on Sunday after the Spurs farce. As it is, the senior management at the club are fiddling while Rome burns as there are no good reasons to continue Slot's tenure as head coach.
16 Mar 2026 22:31:29
Reports from Saudi that Hughes has all but agreed to join Al Hilal.
Looks like Slot and Hughes both going.
17 Mar 2026 01:12:21
All but agreed?
So, not agreed.
16 Mar 2026 22:11:30
Rumours coming out of Saudi that Richard Hughes is close to joining Al-Hilal as sporting director next summer.
Not an ITK, not my info, just sharing what I've seen.
That would be very interesting, considering everything we've been hearing about the backroom since he arrived.
16 Mar 2026 19:06:20
Apparently there is disagreement between Edwards, Hughes’s and few others as to who they want as our next manager: Xabi Alonso or Sebastian Hoeness.
16 Mar 2026 19:23:39
Xabi, please. One of our own, young, wants to play fast-flowing, energetic football.
16 Mar 2026 19:24:56
Plus, Edwards and Hughes should be following Slot out the door. Bring Klopp back as DoF, Xabi as manager, and Stevie as assistant to learn his trade.
16 Mar 2026 19:39:41
Ultimately, the decision is down to Billy Hogan, and he wants Alonso.
He wanted him before Slot.
16 Mar 2026 19:46:30
If that's true, then it tells me that it's not going to be Alonso coming in the summer.
After all these months of shocking form & performances, they can't even decide their next manager in what could well be the most defining appointment since Klopp took over!
Clown show.
16 Mar 2026 19:46:59
Let's hope Billy gets his way and soon.
16 Mar 2026 19:51:12
Either will do.
16 Mar 2026 19:53:16
Got to be honest ... would be happy with either.
Mmmmh, wonder if we wait too long XA ends up at City ... There was some talk about that happening a few weeks back.
16 Mar 2026 19:58:58
I thought Pep was staying for another season.
16 Mar 2026 20:00:45
Edwards, Hughes and Slot need to go. It's a collective failure.
Hulk Hogan can go as well. Kane. Xpac. And Rakishi.
And that's the bottom line, coz LFC8 said so!
16 Mar 2026 20:01:01
Doesn't take much to get the panic going, does it, lads. 😁
16 Mar 2026 20:28:52
You're probably right, Florian, but even you must admit it's an absolute s*** show from top to bottom at the moment!
The total lack of accountability is bringing the club down, mate.
16 Mar 2026 20:55:50
Probably, but then probably not. For all we know, Alonso or whoever the club want is already more r less signed up nd sorted for next season. They're not gonna come out publicly, are they? It only takes for someone who's probably just buzzing off everyone to put up a post and people go into meltdown. 😆
16 Mar 2026 20:57:23
I know a lot of Liverpool fans are caught up in this romantic fantasy of Alonso coming home and reigniting this "deep bond" between him and Liverpool (the same man who has already turned down the chance to manage Liverpool at least once btw).
But, looking at this from a purely footballing perspective, Hoeness would be a superb choice and, in reality, a better fit for the club than Alonso.
I'd also throw Nagelsmann's name into that mix too. Both play a brand of football much closer to the style Liverpool fans want/expect.
16 Mar 2026 21:06:02
Edwards should stay. I get the impression that he's the progressive leaner, and some continuity is essential. The problem is on the football decision making side; Hughes has no place at our club. He has failed, and failure requires dismissal in this game.
The sooner, the better, because some swift rethinking and redirecting needs doing asap in preparation for day 1 of preseason. If it sounds like I have written this season off, maybe.
16 Mar 2026 21:18:10
I think people on here have a fantasy version of what Alonso's style is. He and Arne would agree on a lot, I'm afraid. Is he a better man manager? Maybe, but Xabi is also reserved/stoic. Is he a better tactician? The head to heads vs Slot say no, but who knows.
16 Mar 2026 21:20:02
I don't know if any of this is true.
However, it should not be a committee decision.
Whose job is going to be on the line if the next manager fails? There needs to be clear lines of accountability. If Hughes is accountable, he makes the call.
Too many cooks, I'm afraid.
16 Mar 2026 21:38:57
I'd get Ian Rush in as CEO, Jason McAteer as his deputy, and appoint Steve Nicol as defensive coach. Yep, I think we'd be good to go then.
16 Mar 2026 22:07:30
I'd get Nana Moon as conditioning coach, Keith Moon as set piece coach, Daphne Moon as assistant coach and the whole of Button Moon as tactical pain advisors. Done deal. Ring the bell. Here we go!
16 Mar 2026 22:17:57
A selection of great minds there, Rome.
16 Mar 2026 22:30:03
I want what's best for "my" club, Florian. I'm contacting all 3 of them at the earliest opportunity. Our current state cannot and must not carry on.
16 Mar 2026 22:45:58
Sebastian Hoeness?
I'd take Bob Holness right now.
16 Mar 2026 22:54:05
I'll have a p please, Bob.
16 Mar 2026 21:28:50
Edwards and Hughes don't get to make that call anyway. If we don't make CL I don't expect either of them to be there come September anyway.
Viva - A progressive learner? He's 46 years old and been with the club for nearly 15 years, if he hasn't learned everything he needs to know by now he's definitely the wrong man for the job.
17 Mar 2026 06:12:49
@Bazzinga, Wow that would be the perfect setup!
17 Mar 2026 10:42:30
I don't see Edwards getting the chop.
