Hi Eds, If in worst case we hypothetically lose all or any of the 3 players on everyone's lips.
won't we have to sign biggish name replacements on big wages to compete? I can't imagine that would be easy as we'd need RB cover, a top CB, and a prolific winger. Plus any gaps we have already to fill, LB, midfield player, probably nunez replacement.
Wouldn't this blow us out financially to try and manage this in one Transfer window.

DeanW

{Ed001's Note - it would certainly make things difficult, if the club is to remain competitive in the short term.}

1.) 05 Dec 2024 10:41:15
Feels like we have an insane 12-14 players and then so much risk beyond that.
Almost feels like its the end of the era for this squad after this season, lot of players maybe getting to the end of their careers, and some players that haven't maybe delivered.
We could do with a coutinho leaving for 100 mill again.

2.) 05 Dec 2024 11:29:31
If we lose all 3, we'll be forced into at least a year of transition, fighting for a top 4 place. And then if the recruitment is not perfect, it could be more than one year of transition.

The reality is Trent, Virgil, Mo and Alisson are cheat codes. These kinds of players do not play for your club often, especially not in the same era.

3.) 05 Dec 2024 11:38:59
Gomez, Trent, Salah and VVD were the only players on the pitch last night who have won either the league or champions league with us. The era is over, a new one has started. I'm very positive about it.

4.) 05 Dec 2024 12:27:18
And Robbo mate.

5.) 05 Dec 2024 13:55:45
Dslatt, stay positive, man. I love it.

01 Dec 2024 20:31:44
Man that gave me vibes of the 5-1 against City a few years ago, with some better finishing we could have been 3 up in the first 15 mins.
Decent performance overall, can't believe city stuck with their high line so long, one pump and salah was away on 4 or 5 occassions!

Arsenal with their full squad back look scary, l they seem to walk these games

Hoping for a west ham upset. We'll have to drop some points at some point, and they seem to have an easy run of games.

DeanW

1.) 30 Nov 2024 18:02:27
Lol, everybody meets everybody twice. West ham are utter trash, remember we beat them 5-1 with a 2nd team? No?

2.) 30 Nov 2024 18:35:45
Win tomorrow and we’re 8 points clear again.

Ball is in Slot and the players court.

3.) 30 Nov 2024 18:44:06
Let the insecurity begin!

4.) 30 Nov 2024 19:02:04
Arsenal are a good side, very good in fact. But their weakness is squad depth in key positions which has already been proven this season.

We will also be tested with konate now out until Jan but hopefully Gomez can be relied on.

A long way to go with plenty of twists and turns to come. However everyone would prefer to be in our position and first task is get the job done tomorrow.

5.) 30 Nov 2024 19:06:20
Arsenal went 4-0 up but honestly West Ham just stood off them and allowed them to do what they liked.

We’d have been 8-0 up in the same scenario.

We wouldn’t have conceded 2 goals either.

Arsenal are not scary at all they are Stoke mark 2 they rely heavily on set pieces. What is scary is how strong they are when blocking people at set pieces yet they fall over at the slightest touch anywhere else on the pitch.

The Premier League would be a worse place if they won it. They’re a horrible team.

6.) 30 Nov 2024 19:10:32
Yeah fiskes, hence why i said they have an easy run of games and west ham upset. Arsenal won't drop many points now odegard is back. We have some tough games.

7.) 30 Nov 2024 19:28:17
BP, they are a horrible watch which seems mad when a team has scored 5. For me they are the athletico of the prem but it works for them.

8.) 30 Nov 2024 19:41:12
9 points clear if we win.

9.) 30 Nov 2024 19:45:03
A team that regularly scores 3-5 isn't really an athletico park the bus team
For sure their team is unlikeable though.

{Ed025's Note - i must say i think you are being very harsh on Arsenal guys, i think they are a good watch actually and i want them to win things because they are a massive club with great history..

10.) 30 Nov 2024 19:47:05
Liss indeed mate. My maths was off.

11.) 30 Nov 2024 20:09:13
Don’t worry. When those Champions League knock out stages come along the imposter syndrome will kick in and they’ll revert to type.

12.) 30 Nov 2024 20:12:08
Ed25 I’ve never had a problem with Arsenal and the invincibles team was one of my favourite teams of any opposition team.

This team though. My god they are horrible and frustrating to watch. I can’t fathom how refs don’t give free kick against them at every set piece. Then they are all falling over and staying down like there’s a sniper in the crowd. Arteta is a very unlikeable character and his team are a very good representation of him.

{Ed025's Note - i dont like the simulation side of them either BP but it seems all teams practice the dark arts these days mate (see MacAllister), for me they are a proper club and i prefer them to the likes of the plastic clubs like Chelsea or City, i happen to like their supporters as well...they are a good bunch..

13.) 30 Nov 2024 22:29:36
Another 5 goals away from home, and you call us stoke city. Who hurt you, beckers?

14.) 30 Nov 2024 22:37:16
Good job we have a 8 point head start on them. They will drop points, so will we. Think it will all hinge on the upcoming Xmas period. If we are still 8/ 9 points clear at the end of it then we will go onto win it.

15.) 30 Nov 2024 22:59:42
If we don't win the league Arsenal are the only other realistic club I'd like to see win it.
Odegard is key for them.

16.) 30 Nov 2024 23:13:44
Nobody hurt me SirWenger I’m just not a fan of a team that plays for set pieces and then plays set pieces like an American Football play. There’s blocks, there’s grabs and there’s a wide receiver, usually Gabriel.

Even today you might have scored 5 but the first was direct from a set piece, you won a penalty from a set piece and you had another penalty after Saka was clipped, landed on the same foot and threw himself to the floor acting like he was injured.

The second goal was well worked and shows what Arsenal can do if they stop falling over for 5 minutes or putting it into the channels to win corners.

The first season you finished 2nd you played some good stuff and I was supporting you to win the title but something has happened at Arsenal and Arteta has you playing for every set piece you can get. He obviously thinks that’s the way to win but it’s not nice to watch.

I like Arsenal as a club and I like most Arsenal fans that I know (I live in North London so I know a few) but as a team you’ve become a frustrating watch.

17.) 01 Dec 2024 00:34:00
To be fair Ed25, if Arsenal deserved it they’d be top of the league. Everyone has injuries., so I don’t see that as an excuse. I used to really like Arsenal from Bertie Mee through to Wenger. They always tried to play football and their fans had a sense of humour. But since Arteta took over the culture (from an outsiders point of view) seems to have changed. Not a fan of the apparent entitlement Arteta displays - it seems out of proportion with the 2 FA Cups he’s won which is not much for the money they’ve spent.

{Ed025's Note - im not making injuries as an excuse WDW i see it as a failing on their part because the squad depth is not very strong, as has been shown if they lose key players they are bang average and thats what will let them down i feel, i dont mind Arteta myself even though he can be a bit moody at times but they do play good football and are a proper football club so i do wish them well mate..

18.) 01 Dec 2024 14:20:03
If ever a team wanted their manager sacked west ham are that team.

23 Nov 2024 19:25:29
Seeing City get spanked, you just know they are going to pull a worldie peformance against us next weekend.

DeanW

1.) 23 Nov 2024 19:46:42
Was thinking the same. but we could be 11 points ahead of them. let's hope!

2.) 23 Nov 2024 20:00:28
Must win game tomorrow and go from there. hopefully they turn up thinking they need to win it which should make it a wonderful game to watch.

Let’s win tomorrow and hopefully we give the team a proper Anfield welcome next week. We have to see this as a huge opportunity to put some daylight between us and city and Anfield will play a big factor in it.

3.) 23 Nov 2024 20:03:05
City are resetting after winning 4 titles in a row and selling half a dozen players. Their rebuilding is on the corner. Let’s not fall for it. Zubemendi / Ricci in January plus a defender and a cover to Haaland.

4.) 23 Nov 2024 20:33:40
What 6 players have they sold ?.

5.) 23 Nov 2024 20:36:40
Bet they're glad Pep signed for 2 x more years after that S**t show. I have a feeling its going south and he should have left as a legend. No pressure on next weekend :)

6.) 23 Nov 2024 20:41:16
For me that city team is falling apart at the seams, still some quality players but a few ageing badly and some of the younger ones aren't at the same level as before.

7.) 23 Nov 2024 20:59:28
Let’s have it right it’s not like they haven’t got the money to buy a new team .

8.) 23 Nov 2024 21:04:17
They will buy their way out of trouble xx.

9.) 23 Nov 2024 21:05:27
We'll do them. Something bad is going on over there at the min, I was thinking they'd probably come back with a win today which they desperately needed but they got beat like that? yeah we'll smash them. Not worried about it at all.

10.) 23 Nov 2024 21:19:25
Damn that Singha beer went to my head. Kisses!?

11.) 23 Nov 2024 21:35:34
But Arsenal won!

12.) 23 Nov 2024 21:57:48
Wonder if Pep has a 14 day cooling off period in his new contract.

13.) 23 Nov 2024 22:11:28
Spurs would’ve been thinking the same. Playing City away after an international break when they’d lost 4 in a row before?

You’d be expecting City to be right up for it and to take you to the cleaners. But the same old problems showed up again.

They are still decent on the ball but when you win it back they are so open. You just have to run straight at them and they fold.

Spurs could’ve scored with every attack, City’s defending was absolutely woeful.

They’ll be coming to Anfield hoping for a draw.

14.) 23 Nov 2024 22:17:39
You seem determined to kill the buzz @Lee. Are you really sure you are on the right forum.

City have the same squad as last year apart from buying the youngster with potential.

They couldn’t reasonably be expected to shell out the regular millions when they are finally having to account for their past activities.

KDB is finished at the top level.
Foden’s form has dropped off a cliff.
The troll who lives under the bridge isn’t quite so devastating when he doesn’t get the service but, most of all, Rodri is out injured for the season.
Rodri not being there exposes the average players at the back, which hasn’t been helped by the defensive injuries they’ve had / have.
Everyone can see the animal is wounded so teams are actually giving it a go against them. Spurs aren’t that good but they made City look eminently beatable.

15.) 23 Nov 2024 23:14:31
City are going through what we did after attempt to lift the 4 trophies they look like it has caught up with them no disrespect to spurs who were outstanding.

16.) 23 Nov 2024 22:49:38
@MJJ, City aren’t resetting - they are basically the same squad as last year, they signed one player over the summer - now there’s a surprise given the 100’s of charges they are trying to wheedle their way out of- and he’s basically a promising kid.

The difference is KDB is finished at the top level and Rodri is out for the season.

The service to the creature that lives under the bridge is suffering and the best shield for the average defence they have has gone.

They are vulnerable and the word has got out and teams are - for the first time in years - having a go at them.

Funny thing is Spurs aren’t that good. City are just average. It would be interesting to know what percentage of games they lose or draw when Rodri isn’t there.

From our perspective, and as ever, our match is the most important game of the season, although given the obvious boost of going 8 points clear if we win it is probably even more important than usual.

17.) 23 Nov 2024 22:52:50
Pep left a mess behind him when he left barcelona. Same with munich. I wonder has he stayed too long at city and the players have had enough of him.

18.) 23 Nov 2024 23:24:49
In fairness us being top of the league at Christmas isn’t an uncommon theme.

Let’s just hope we are still top in May.

19.) 24 Nov 2024 00:00:35
Is the service to Haaland suffering WWW3? He had some decent chances today. Chances that Nunez would be crucified for missing.

They look nervous because they know that if they lose the ball they could concede.

They start playing too safe, lose the ball and the defence just run away from the player in possession. How many times did Spurs players just run in a straight line and get into goal scoring positions?

City just look woeful without the ball which is feeding into all aspects of their play.

20.) 24 Nov 2024 01:59:17
More in general than today @BP. Although I do take the point that he had some chances today.

21.) 24 Nov 2024 02:46:50
Making excuses already, they are currently a mess, winners take advantage when the opposition are in turmoil. Stop making excuses, they are a mess and we should win, if we don't its on us.

22.) 24 Nov 2024 05:57:52
Just to add WWW. that promising kid was bought from within the "City Group" - which adds fuel to the fire that they are in serious trouble with these charges. There is more going on behind the scenes than we know.

So nice that they are going through this "crisis". couldn't happen to a nicer club!

23.) 24 Nov 2024 08:11:16
Just to add to my comment above.

Great to see City lose again though and it’s definitely advantage us.

Ball is in our court today. Bring on Southampton. The way the play and when comparing the two teams we couldn’t ask for a better opposition first game back in this current climate.

24.) 24 Nov 2024 09:14:55
WD3 is right, they’re missing Rhodri. I also agree KdB is not the same player, his still has the technical skill, but his legs have gone.

We’ll just take it one game at a time, any sort of lead is irrelevant at this stage.

25.) 24 Nov 2024 11:20:32
It’d be a fun time to to chat to Noel and Liam.

29 Sep 2024 18:36:58
Ed001

Do you think its difficult to cultivate a killer instinct in forwards in modern football?

We have players like salah who are wingers who are expected to bag goals, we don't have the big frontmen of old (though i suppose clinical players like haaland could fit that profile) .

Point being, you have players like salah/ diaz being judged on their goals but most of the time i feel the anger from selfish decision making, either you should be targeting assists or goalscoring, but we seem to almost expect both nowadays!

DeanW

{Ed001's Note - it is not that it is difficult to cultivate it, it is that modern head coaches want players to play a certain way.}

1.) 29 Sep 2024 21:33:48
I feel like you need to be at Haaland, Kane level of goal scoring to be that kind if player.

2.) 30 Sep 2024 05:03:18
Kane was, is, for ever shall be a glorified goal hanger. The overly self confident creature that lives under a bridge is also one dimensional and is achieving the amount of goals he scores by virtue of the team he plays in.

3.) 30 Sep 2024 08:02:05
I took two players to a pro club and the coach told me they are looking for lads at 15-16 to be around 6ft and can run 100 meters in 10.5 seconds and it doesn't matter if they are not great footballers they will teach them the skills.

My answer to him was that is an Olympic sprinter your looking for. Haaland fits that bill, mum sprinter dad footballer.

4.) 30 Sep 2024 12:26:34
Sorry WDW but that is nonsense about Kane. His link-up play for a striker is pretty good although his pressing isn't great. Sometimes you have to give credit where credit's due and I would say Kane has been consistently in the top 3 number 9s for the last decade.

Mbwell77, I would think he's being picked as he's our only fit striker, his only competion are Diaz and Gakpo who both are better on the wing.
Other than that he's only got Djota and the youngsters. and Djota is more often injured than not.
Personally I think you might as well just play a youngster for 30 mins to see how they do.

Cheers Ed001, don't know how you keep young players grounded when they get so overhyped from such a young age!

Any thoughts on whether Bajc will return from his loan? anyone watched him to see how he's doing.
Or is he likely to be a sale next summer?

DeanW

{Ed001's Note - he is improving from the little I have seen - I see a highlights reel after each performance. Not a foolproof way to judge him, but he is looking to be more involved and playing better football as the season goes on. Still needs to buck up his attitude though.}

This season? gomez has played less the 3 full games (give or take)? most of which has been cover at fullback? (I think)

He's emergency CB at best.

Ed001 any LB's on your radar for next year?

DeanW

{Ed001's Note - I would like to see Beck given a chance, and Chambers was impressing massively before his injury. There are none really out there, unless we are going back to the old left-back style - in which case the likes of Kerkez would be decent, but I fail to see that they are that much better than Beck to make it worthwhile spending money on one.}
