I hate to say it but one of the reasons we are so slow is we are missing Trent in transition. His crossing was a huge part of our attacks and he used to find Salah every time and switched play so many times in a game that helped us out
It certainly doesn't mean we should be playing like we are but it's a definite miss in our game as we have no one near his range.
We have missed those 10-12 assists and link up.
03 Apr 2026 08:28:03
There are loads of reasons, that is just one small one.
No consistency at all in that position this season has not helped.
Massive drop off in the form of Salah, Konate, Mac and Gakpo.
Having to play one of our best players at RB.
Unfit squad.
Ekitike is running on fumes as we've not had any decent alternative #9 options.
Slot is bald. Etc.
03 Apr 2026 09:01:20
We also miss Diaz's marauding runs, I liked his directness, but agree Trent was our quarterback, capable of 50 - 60 yard passes to a red shirt.
03 Apr 2026 09:02:16
It's no coincidence there have been a massive drop off in multiple players' performances.
I wonder what could be the common denominator?
03 Apr 2026 09:33:35
A massive part of our game is gone. Trent was a liability in defence, but his switches to Gakpo were a big part of why Cody was so effective last year. He's been missed more than I wanted to admit, but I still don't excuse the current form. This squad has no excuses to not be challenging on all fronts with the right tactical set up.
03 Apr 2026 09:36:25
Trent wanted to play for Real Madrid, it's not like we cashed in against his will. People have asked if they would take him back. The lad has no intention of playing in red.
Mo has been the biggest loss for us this season. He has been spectacular for so long, we became over reliant, and our record signing goal machine has been injured all season.
03 Apr 2026 10:01:39
Players come and go, that's football. It's up to Slot to sort that out, but so far he has failed.
02 Apr 2026 22:38:24
Tensions have been mounting around Alessandro Bastoni at Inter Milan, with the club's defensive mainstay now reportedly considering a move away.
Tuttosport.
03 Apr 2026 00:09:36.
Does anyone know whether Bastoni is really that good? I don't recall where I've heard it (maybe it was here), but apparently he's decent, but not excellent.
Outside of the Euros and the Champions League, I can't really say I've watched Bastoni much.
I know he was woeful in the Champions League final, but the rest of the team were that night too. In the Champions League against us this season, barring that pull on Wirtz for the penalty, he was okay, but nothing that stood out to me.
03 Apr 2026 00:33:40
He's good but honestly VVD is still a league above. Even with the age gap.
03 Apr 2026 04:23:49
Ooooh tensions!!!!
03 Apr 2026 07:34:14
Isn't he the player that said he'd only consider moving to Barcelona?
03 Apr 2026 07:37:04
I haven't watched him myself, but if I remember correctly, Ed001, who I mostly think to be a decent judge of players ability, said that he is a good defender but has regressed a lot in recently.
03 Apr 2026 10:45:56
Bastoni is an average player, no better than what we have. Looks ok in the Italian league, but I think he would struggle in the EPL.
YNWA
02 Apr 2026 21:31:08
Slot. Is. Gone. In. The. Summer.
Xabi will replace him. That's it. Forget about anything any journo says. There's been no power struggle, it's been cordial. He doesn't want to be in England and we want Xabi while he's available.
02 Apr 2026 22:43:01
Fingers crossed.
I'm sick of Slot's boring no clue 'low block' excuses week after week.
02 Apr 2026 22:55:49
Nice and concise. Cheers, Victor.
03 Apr 2026 00:20:19
I don't understand the logic behind keeping Slot till the end of the season. If he doesn't want to be here himself, what motivation does he have to improve our results. He knows he's gone and will probably get the Ajax job. Doing poorly with us for the remainder of the season has no consequences for him, but is a disaster for us.
03 Apr 2026 06:12:52
Viktor, can you stop sitting on the fence please and just give us an answer one way or another?...
I really hope you're right but I'm not holding my breath.
03 Apr 2026 07:07:54
I assume the logic is if Xabi came in and lost to PSG and City, the keyboard warriors would be out in force for his head. Slot needs the whole season to try and put it right, which he most probably won't.
03 Apr 2026 07:39:10
I agree with El Nino. Yes, you would like to think people would be professional and do their best, but let's be honest, 99% will not put their all into a thing when they know there are no consequences.
Shame, but it is what it is. Let's just hope we can pull off a cup win and scrape top 5.
03 Apr 2026 09:04:40
Thanks, VG.
Appreciate the feedback.
Let's just hope that XA is "still available" when he actually makes a move.
Surely, we couldn't allow another Semenyo and Guehi situation, right?
02 Apr 2026 19:29:03
More rumours breaking that Slot has won the power struggle with Hughes and will have greater influence on players released and signed.
He never wanted Salah's contract renewed and has won the battle in getting Salah released at the end of the season.
Fringpom was allegedly signed as Salah's replacement and Slot wanted to sign fullbacks who could inverted and also cover multiple positions.
Have no idea if these rumours are true, just passing on what I have heard.
Personally I would prefer Alonso and the system he used at Beyern Leverkusen. Salah being released and our recent purge on centre halves could also point at this.
02 Apr 2026 20:11:29
Purge on centre halves? We still have bare minimum for a 4 let alone a 5 at the back.
02 Apr 2026 20:47:22
I'm not accepting any decisions have been made yet, but thanks for the rumours.
02 Apr 2026 20:51:29
We have signed 5 CB's in the past 12 months.
02 Apr 2026 21:04:58
A purge would be getting rid. A splurge would be signing some.
02 Apr 2026 21:14:23
Sounds like a load of nonsense, to be honest. Not sure what power struggle you could possibly win when your job's on a knife edge. Mo had a record season last year, best of his career. No manager in their right mind would let him walk.
He's leaving of his own accord, it's been clear for most of the season that he's very unhappy. If he was being forced out, he'd hardly agree to tear up the contract, as I'm sure he'd be looking at a considerable payout.
02 Apr 2026 22:29:56
All RTFP.
02 Apr 2026 22:42:56
Slot never wanted him to have a contract renewal and now he is off! Read into that what you want.
02 Apr 2026 22:44:17
Why even read or think or believe this rubbish is in any form accurate, nor will come to pass! It is total garbage. Just even think about it... Slot being left in charge? How in the name of God does anyone, let alone those making such decisions, come up with the conclusion that this is the way forward??? Ignore the total rubbish by Joyce and fellow AS supporters. Ignore the what ifs and buts of winning some cup competitions this season, and forget his winning title 20. That's yesterday's news, and now irrelevant. He's past tense. He's out. And thank God for that. LFC will move on in May and they'll be God Damn Right to do so.
A disastrous season overseen by disastrous decisions made solely by a disastrous manager or whatever his title may be. Good riddance. Let the season play out and let there be no further what ifs about it. He's regressed the club back 10 years. I couldn't care less about him nor his entourage. I'll say no more about it myself until the end of the season. The rest of you who find any redeeming attributes about him currently can argue it further amongst yourselves, but it'll be for nothing. We'll have a decent manager come May and I'll be behind XA 100 pc from then onward.
03 Apr 2026 02:03:32
Molby, Mo had 57 goals & assists in all competitions last season. There's not a manager in this world or the next who wouldn't give him a renewal.
Imagine Slot walking in and recommending to Hughes & Edwards that the best forward in the league, who just had the season of his life and led the team to a 20th title win, should be let walk on a free! Give us a half ounce of whatever you're smoking, will you, it must be top notch!
03 Apr 2026 04:42:48
Who really knows, but my assessment is that the fullbacks we bought weren't suited for how Slot plays.
The transfer activity on the wings, again, wasn't conducive to bringing in the skillset we want on the wings.
I wouldn't have extended Mo either.
Would have celebrated his contributions last season and then moved on. Very hindsight now, of course, but this outcome was always a possibility. And, worse still, all we've got out of it is, actually, nothing.
03 Apr 2026 09:07:44
"Slot wanted to sign fullbacks who could be inverted and also cover multiple positions."
Since we already have a MF who can play RB, we just need a ST who can play CB, a GK who can play DM, and a LW who can play RM.
The fullbacks will then cover everywhere else when needed!
03 Apr 2026 09:29:24
How many centre backs that are ready to start; VVD at the end of his career, Konate still up in the air, Gomez can't stay fit, Leoni still an unknown, Jacquet the only one I'd say.
03 Apr 2026 09:48:11
What Chewy said.
This guy has no idea what he's talking about.
02 Apr 2026 15:05:55
Doing the rounds on Twitter that Konate has just signed a new deal.
Big fan of this forum too, been following for many years.
Cheers,
02 Apr 2026 15:55:05
Oh no.
02 Apr 2026 17:16:59
No doubt he'll be on £300k-a-week with Hughes.
02 Apr 2026 17:18:01
Personally, I'm glad if that's the case. Selling him would leave us with too much to do in the summer window.
02 Apr 2026 17:32:06
I agree - hope this is true. We need something stable to start the season.
02 Apr 2026 17:34:52
I'm with you, PB (albeit marginal). As long as we are not paying him £300k+, which he reportedly wanted a while back, then I think it provides some stability and allows players like Leoni and Jacquet time to establish themselves and provide competition.
Replacing Salah, Macca, Robbo, possibly Gakpo (or at least rejuvenating him), belatedly Diaz too, gives us plenty to be getting along with.
Even if Konate re-signs, I would be keen on a flexible RB/CB, like Geertruida or others, to both provide competition and squad depth, so we don't have Dom playing RB!
02 Apr 2026 17:35:08
I don't think we would want to sign him if he played for someone else. Far too inconsistent, if he can sort that out then great.
02 Apr 2026 17:49:32
Get a utility defender and a DM and we can cover Ibou's inconsistency and help him out. Even Hansen would struggle without a midfield shield.
02 Apr 2026 19:13:21
For the amount of supposed change that'll happen over the summer, might be best to keep him so we have stability.
02 Apr 2026 19:18:22
Hopefully we've signed him to protect his transfer fee. If he plays the same way next year, we can move him on.
{Ed025's Note - or maybe just give him away for nothing Strom...because hes been a good servant.. :)
02 Apr 2026 19:46:36
Real Madrid just dodged a bullet there !!!
02 Apr 2026 20:06:06
Can't see PSG, Real Madrid wanting him after the season he has had. Still, I think it would be good if we got him resigned for a few years, at least gives us bit of time to sort out other areas and for Leoni + Jacquet to bed into team.
02 Apr 2026 20:16:35
Please remember that his Dad was ill and then passed away this season. If that doesn't affect your consistency, nothing will. Give the guy a break, stop using consistency this season as a stick to beat him with, and if it's true that he has signed, support him fully and let's see how he performs next season.
02 Apr 2026 20:36:53
I do remember Stoneage, inconsistency has always been an issue with him. Nobody is beating anyone with a stick, just saying it how it is. He is entering his prime years and, to repeat myself, if he can become more consistent with his performances then great.
02 Apr 2026 21:36:32
Ed025, well we do seem to give our players away for nothing don't we, We must have a ton of money hiding behind John Henrys sofa or in Tom Werners ice cream van 😀
{Ed025's Note - it baffling Strom, you have sold players who were not very good players for big money and got rid of superstars for nothing mate..
02 Apr 2026 22:51:07
Well imo that's a horrendous decision if correct. He's rubbish. Sluggish. Rash and unreliable. A total liability. A top team requires top CBs who instill and promote confidence throughout the whole team. He never has nor never will be one of those.
Let him away on a free and we'll be the better for it. If we want to win the big ones, he's certainly not going to contribute further. Overrated. Overpaid. Terrible defender. Out Out Out.
02 Apr 2026 23:55:43
Ed025. Madness i agree
03 Apr 2026 07:08:18
If konate left for free the same posters on here who are saying he is rubbish would be having a go at him, sorry but barring few in here who post good analysis and have a good understanding of how football works the rest of u would moan even if we signed the next Bobby Moore, toxic people in here and no wonder u hardly see any replies from the Eds
02 Apr 2026 15:04:21
For those still asking about Slot here is your virtual fridge magnet -
25 Mar 2026 13:03:41
I keep getting asked the same thing over and over and over about Slot.
Bookmark this, stick it on your fridge this is my information and that is final.
Slot was told months ago his position at Liverpool was virtually done.
His family arrangements haven't helped, discussions over a termination went amicable and Slot was happy to work on until the summer.
Edwards spoke to Fabregas in Como, nothing came of it.
Luis Enrqique's agent spoke with Liverpool, very difficult as he's invested into the project at PSG. Would love to manage LFC in the future.
Talks with Gerrard went positive regarding a interim role, club decided to stick with Slot. Gerrard is there if FSG change their minds.
Hoeness is very well regarded and could be considered. I would think as a second option to Alonso. Would jump at the chance to manage LFC.
Xabi Alonso though is and always has been the main candidate, wants the job and will most likely get it this summer.
If Slot wins a Champions League does it change things? This is a two way street and Slot seems happy to go back home. I personally don't see that changing things but you never know.
The conclusion - Slot leaves this summer. Xabi Alonso joins LFC.
Ta.
Carra.
02 Apr 2026 15:22:39
Sassy, I like it.
02 Apr 2026 16:27:55
Oh, how fabulous!!
02 Apr 2026 16:41:04
Cheers for the info, Carra. I think many fans are simply disgusted he's been allowed to continue, he's dismantled this season and left a bitter taste. The club are playing a dangerous game allowing him to continue as if we miss out on CL, we're set back further.
02 Apr 2026 17:26:15
Are people aware this is a copy and paste from a Carra post a week ago? Just checking, as replies suggest they haven't spotted this isn't an original or new info?
02 Apr 2026 18:44:43
I don't think people read like they used to.
02 Apr 2026 19:06:49
I don't think people are red like they used to.
02 Apr 2026 19:33:49
I clearly wasn't, unfortunately. I thought April Fools was done.
02 Apr 2026 20:17:18
If Ornstein and Joyce are saying Slot is going nowhere and being backed, even suggesting he could be given more power over ins and outs, Salah just the start, Slot won that power battle, Slot will still be in the dugout next season. Put that on your fridge.
02 Apr 2026 20:50:53
I choose to believe Carra. Not a doubt in my mind that Slot will be replaced this summer. Of course, the Ornsteins of the world will report that Slot is safe, because that is the narrative FSG want right now. I believe it will be spun into a family matter for Slot to leave.
02 Apr 2026 21:56:59
For what it's worth, I think Arne is gone in May, but I don't agree about this being the narrative that needs to be put out. They could just say nothing at all, as everyone expects him to be gone anyway.
03 Apr 2026 08:44:49
The power over ins and outs should always be with the Coach/ Manager. Moving back to that doesn't keep Slot in a job, Hughes left this squad weak for this season by not getting the centre back and quick wide man Slot was promised.
Alonso or another won't come in if they don't have the say on who to move on.
Fans have a part to play as well. Let's get behind the team and start believing again. We have important games coming up that I want us to win. Some want us to fail because they dislike Slot.
I don't like our approach in most games this season, and I think that Arne has not always helped himself with the fans, but if he wins us a trophy and gets us in the Champions League next season, then he surely has the right to decide his future.
With 1 year left on his deal and no extension on the table, he will surely have offers from elsewhere. If at the start of his contract we were told he will win the Premier League, every fan would have been happy.
Do I want him to sign a new 4 year deal? S***. No. But he should be given the right to see out his contract, thanked and moved on, or decide I don't feel the love here and look to move on in the summer.
Let's get behind the team and try and win the Magnificent Seven. Let's hope Isak can shoot us all the way to being Champions of Europe.
Let's get behind the team and believe in every game.
{Ed025's Note - how dare you blame the fans!!, give these supporters something to shout about and they will back you to the hilt mate, show some passion and some guts and that you are moving forward and the crowd will back you all the way..
02 Apr 2026 10:10:14
How accurate is Paul Joyce as he's said this morning fsg fully back slot to turn things around after a difficult season. Make of that what you want.
02 Apr 2026 10:21:19
Well, this is concerning, to say the least.
02 Apr 2026 10:30:04
September 2015, Paul Joyce wrote FSG predicted a slow start to the season and will continue to back Brendan Rodgers.
He was sacked a month later.
02 Apr 2026 10:32:05
I guess if they believe he will secure top 5 and get to the CL final, then fair enough he may well earn another season. But if he fails on either of those two points, and Xabi is willing to come in, their stance would change?
02 Apr 2026 10:33:38
Honestly, I thought he was gone pending a Champions League win at this stage.
It seems he might not need that.
I would think he certainly needs Champions League football next season to save his job.
So where I'm at right now.
Champions League: definitely keeps his job.
No Champions League football next season: definitely gets sacked.
The in between, I'm not sure, but my gut is telling me he goes at the end of the season and we have a new manager next season.
02 Apr 2026 10:34:33
The club will always publicly back the manager until they release them from their duties.
Paul Joyce is and always has been a mouth piece from the club, he isn't as intertwined as he used to be, but the club pushes things to him when they want to.
02 Apr 2026 10:35:57
They will back him whilst we still have a chance of winning something. They're hardly going to say at this point that his position is under threat etc.
02 Apr 2026 10:42:24
The title of his article is "Will Liverpool's owners stand by Arne Slot this summer?" The most committal thing he seems to say is "FSG remain steadfastly behind Slot and want him to emerge from the turbulence," but that could just mean that they haven't sacked him because they want him to finish the season strong before making changes in the summer.
You can read into it as much as you like, but at the end of the day, he is a journalist, and he is sitting firmly on the fence, and writing in such a way that you can interpret his words either way, and he can never be proven wrong whether or not Slot stays or goes.
02 Apr 2026 10:43:56
A coincidence that it comes a day after the Simon Hughes article, which basically described the uncertainty behind the scenes at the club.
I wouldn't be surprised if part of Joyce's article was briefed to counter that and give Slot some air cover for these next set of fixtures.
The way I look at it, only a Slot contract extension would indicate he's staying beyond the summer.
There's no sign of that, so everything else is just trying to control the narrative by the club's PR people.
If Slot had intended to stay, it might have been nice for him to take in some of the local community activities & events and witness the Legends game last week. But, no. He's back home in the Netherlands.
02 Apr 2026 10:49:05
This is standard PR. They're hardly going to turn around and say he's gone unless we finish in top 4/5, win Champions League & FA Cup.
02 Apr 2026 10:56:33
Would usually think it's a piece to save face from the club with the never ending scrutiny Slot is under, however, the section pretty much ruling out Xabi Alonso completely suggests it has more legs to it, or it's readying fans for when Alonso isn't the man they go for, and more than likely get a yes man to follow whatever Edwards/Hughes wants to do at the club.
02 Apr 2026 11:04:17
Joyce can be fairly reliable but he will produce PR driven pieces. That's what this looks like, if I had a penny for every article that came out just weeks before a manager was sacked claiming he had the full backing of the club, I'd be a very wealthy man.
02 Apr 2026 11:27:43
His word is usually taken as gospel, or was. No one, including on here predicted the Jacquet signing or the Mo announcement, so the club seem to be keeping things in house. Suppose if he's saying something you want to hear, he's ultra reliable, not so much if he's delivering bad news.
02 Apr 2026 11:46:34
I think club sounded out XA. Obviously we want to finish the best we can and therefore the club have to back the manager. They can't exactly go about saying yeah you are done after the season.
So both Joyce and Pearce are at it as club's mouthpiece to calm down waters.
02 Apr 2026 11:50:00
I am under the impression that Slot will see out his contract, which means another season.
02 Apr 2026 12:19:23
Think we should all check our fridge magnets ...
Been discussed so many times ...
Slot is here til summer, then he is not ... no way he starts next season at the helm of LFC ...
2 more months ... 8 weeks ... that's how much longer we still have to wait.
02 Apr 2026 12:27:18
He'll be aiming to win us the Europa League next season if he remains as manager.
02 Apr 2026 12:28:42
I believe the real ITKs and rely on common sense. There's not one hope in the world that he is the manager of LFC next season. Zero.
02 Apr 2026 12:55:34
Europa? We'd be lucky to make the Conference looking at our last three league results.
02 Apr 2026 13:01:16
Going through Joyce or Orstein is like the board indirectly given Slot the vote of confidence. And we all know what happens after a board gives that.
02 Apr 2026 13:12:05
Slot's gone as soon as Xabi's ready to come in.
02 Apr 2026 14:18:49
"If he loses the next game he's gone." 😂
02 Apr 2026 14:34:46
I think Slot will go due to fan pressure, but I don't think Alonso will replace him.
02 Apr 2026 14:38:39
He's as accurate as the owners want him to be.
No decisions have been made yet, so the owners will back the manager.
02 Apr 2026 22:49:06
I want him gone today! We shouldn't even give him til the end of the season. He won the league with Klopp's team and he rode the wave, until he started to turn us s**** from the turn of the year.
This season we have been worse than that of Woy Hodgson era!
He is destroying the club more and more each week.
01 Apr 2026 20:26:51
Any truth in Madrid wanting Ekitike? He has been probably our best player outside Dom this season. Be crazy to let him go.
01 Apr 2026 21:02:47
It's April Fools... don't listen to any of it.
01 Apr 2026 21:13:17
Links well and seems to get along with Mbappe. Wouldn't surprise me.
01 Apr 2026 22:21:20
About as likely as Homer turning vegetarian.
Not to say RM will knock in the future.
Diddly out.
02 Apr 2026 08:09:05
They'd have to pay money for him, so very unlikely.
02 Apr 2026 09:07:02
Not an April Fool, and not really surprising given how well Hugo has settled and performed.
The key distinction from the OP's post is that just because RM want Hugo (as I would imagine would many top clubs in Europe) that doesn't mean we will sell him.
02 Apr 2026 10:43:11
Zed, but I thought we were Madrid's feeder club!
01 Apr 2026 05:07:49
Hey, I maybe in the wrong here but been informed the Vvd is also looking for a move! No idea if club will let him go for free or what, but rumours are a couple of Saudi clubs want to open talks with him and have asked us for go ahead.
01 Apr 2026 07:30:14
Doubt he'll be leaving for free.
01 Apr 2026 08:41:38
Happy for his time with us to come to an end, fantastic defender, up there with Hansen (and for me Sami in that bracket as well).
But I passionately believe that we need a total overhaul of leadership and he is part of that group.
A token fee would be acceptable and it would be great to watch him pick up a trophy or two on the continent somewhere.
01 Apr 2026 09:02:36
Van Dijk is still the best defender around, but, in my opinion, the new manager could do worse than reassign the captaincy. He is one of the senior players, but, damn it, he is no leader of men.
Letting him go completely would not be a good idea, as no one out there is better, let alone players we could buy.
01 Apr 2026 09:13:19
I think he'll go next summer when his contract runs out.
01 Apr 2026 09:49:45
Check what the date is. 😂
01 Apr 2026 12:18:48
Agree, Lowe, he's definitely not a good captain.
01 Apr 2026 14:00:27
He isn't moving next season.
01 Apr 2026 14:48:44
First I saw of this was a TeamTalk article a couple of weeks ago claiming Saudi was planning a triple-raid for Mo, Virgil & Ali. The rumours have since been recycled on social media and referenced in a couple of outer articles over the last 2 weeks. TeamTalk are generally a low tier second hand source, more concerned with site traffic and not known for publishing breaking stories.
Nobody major has picked up on the claims since, which should tell you all you need to know. I believe the same rumours about Virgil started around this time last year as well. I've no doubt Saudi are interested, but claims Virgil is actively looking for a move are pure speculation at the moment, unless one of the ITK's has any solid info, which I'm sure they would have shared by now.

He got at least another season in him... he's still our best defender by far... but I think next season n that's it for him at Liverpool.

Every year people fall for the April Fools post!

I know VVD has not had his best season but is it his time to be slagged off?
I have posted on how VVD has not performed to his best but the man has not stopped playing since his bad injury.
As for not being a great captain, you could not be further from the truth; he is a leader and he cannot be at fault if players go out of form.
You don't have to scream and shout to be a captain, you just need the respect of your team mates and opposition players.
YNWA.

@Albeyred, Exactly. All the players describe him as a leader. How he sets the standards. Maybe he is not as vocal as Hendo, but Hendo also had Milly and others to back him up. It's the duty of the whole leadership group to drive the team forward. At least he takes initiative and speaks to the media irrespective of how it is going.

Gents - It's April Fools.

I love it: "he's not a good captain" based on zero insight or observation, despite him being a focal point and a rock on the pitch.

Frode, he's had some woeful performances this year, far from being a rock, mate, and he's not captain material, at least not the type of captain we need. Whenever something goes wrong, that's his fault, he just turns around, throws his hands in the air and whinges at the closest person to him, looking for someone to blame.
He's not lighting a fire under anyone out there, he's just not an inspiring leader. I love him, he has been unbelievable for us, one of the best CB's to ever do it, but he's not the captain we need right now.

April 2 will not come too soon.

Yep, moving to Walton.

Just garbage. VVD will continue to be LFC captain next season.
