Hi all
It has been a while since I posted, but I am hearing Sarah is coming in as head chef in the players' kitchen. She is going to revolutionise the nutrition and only serve Basque menu.
Ta
Man of Todd
31 May 2026 19:16:02
Surely she'll be serving Salad too.
31 May 2026 19:18:32
As long as Gakpo isn't responsible for adding the seasoning. He'll receive the shaker from Sarah, cut in around the assistant chef, and miss the bowl high and right.
31 May 2026 19:30:26
Pintxos by Sarah. The players will have gout by October.

Is letting players leave on a free a problem for Liverpool or a general change in club football? I can’t remember a time in history where we’ve let so many go for free and I don’t really understand.
The notable names over roughly the last 4–5 years are:
* Roberto Firmino
* James Milner
* Naby Keita
* Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
* Divock Origi
* Georginio Wijnaldum
* Emre Can
* Adam Lallana
* Joel Matip
* Thiago Alcantara
* Adrian
* Trent Alexander-Arnold (8m)
* Mohamed Salah
* Andrew Robertson
* Ibrahima Konate.
{Ed001's Note - we always used to let players leave on a free as a thank you for their service.}
31 May 2026 19:09:00
There's less than a handful of players on that list that you would have got more than £10m for, and most considerably less. Then you've got to weigh up keeping them for that final season or selling them for a small amount.
Konate sounds like he may have jerked us around, Trent, by all accounts, wouldn't confirm if he would sign or not, and fans wouldn't have been happy if we sold him early, Robbo gets whatever he wants, and Salah still had a year on his deal, so plans obviously changed at some point during the season.
Don't think we're terrible by losing the players on that list for very little.
31 May 2026 19:09:47
Ed, not sure whether that is applied to Trent.
31 May 2026 19:19:36
Trent and Konate are the outliers, as they were at their peak years. I think once a player is in their 30s, and has given their all, it's decent to let them go on a free. And it's madness to put them on huge wages. Virgil is the exception, but renewing Mo's deal was a catastrophic decision.
I think City are equally generous when it comes to players leaving on a free. It might also have something to do with the fact that we and City have the biggest wage bills, which means most clubs cannot afford to buy our players.
31 May 2026 19:22:46
Rugby, if a couple of million here or there is nothing, I'm not sure why the club are putting prices up or attempting to. They could bridge that gap by actually getting fees for some of these players. Not all, but certainly some.
31 May 2026 19:30:38
Resigning Mo wasn't catastrophic. The tactics that made him and the rest of the "League Champions" look crap were.
31 May 2026 18:22:57
Carra, does sacking slot affect transfer targets?
31 May 2026 18:13:20
“Sadness “ my a—!! It’s been a year negotiating with Liverpool and if you're that happy to be here then you wouldn’t allow bonuses to get in the way.
I personally think this is another player making a stupid mistake.
But Cest la vie mate !!!

Does anyone else find the narrative from the media about Slot bizarre?
Most journalists and talking heads seem to be spreading the narrative that Slot was harshly sacked and the toxic Liverpool fans forced the club's hand. Some are adding the additional narrative that the toxic dressing room added to the pressure on Slot.
I'm sorry but if both the players and fans want Slot gone, maybe the problem is... Slot? Who exactly are you aiming to please by keeping him? Why were the media hell-bent that Slot kept his job?
It became really weird how they were determined to not see the issues with Slot. Slot had a perfect first sixth months. Performances began to deteriorate in the January and they have been consistently awful for 15 months.
In hindsight, Slot clearly rode the way of a new manager bounce in an opportune season before there was a reversion to his actual level.
The lack of fitness, intensity, pressing and defensive organisation, the tactics, the slow build-up play, the way every player in the squad bar Szoboszlai has regressed, the poor man-management, the team selections and substitutions, the lack of youth integration. These are problems all directly attributable to Slot.
At what point were they seriously expecting us to improve? Is the media full of undercover United fans or are they actually that obtuse?
31 May 2026 19:13:21
There's this thing called club propaganda.
31 May 2026 19:17:27
Babbity, here's the lesson to learn here: Don't believe anything you read nor hear from the media in these situations. They (journalists) are either being told what to say, which is not necessarily the truth. Or they try to put their spin on things and then start hedging when the "bomba" they put out starts to be on shaky ground.
Example: The same people who were telling us that Slot was staying for sure and how we should all see things his way (unmitigated circumstances and all that) are now the same people, literally 2 days afterwards, spilling all the tea about how the club was worried about how Slot was not training the team to get full fitness, even being concerned as to why Slot went to Ibiza to celebrate the title win with the season not even being over. The whole lot, including the way the team was playing to finish the title season. I kid you not.
I present to you: David Lynch.
At the end of the day, relax, stay calm and just watch what happens.
31 May 2026 19:21:22
Don't fret, they probably don't want to harp on about their darlings being beaten in Champions League last night.
31 May 2026 19:22:50
Slot made no attempt to change course. If he did, it was the most unapparent attempt in the history of unapparentness. We all expected that he would come in and slow things down, dominate games, and win 1-0. We didn't expect Klopp heavy-metal, etc. Slot did this to himself. The only bizarre thing in this situation is that he wasn't sacked last November.
31 May 2026 19:28:53
These journalists are shills. They toe the line with everything, and then have the audacity to call fans toxic for rightly calling out the manager. What makes me laugh is they want to charge people on many occasions to support their propaganda. You'd have to be mad to pay it.
31 May 2026 19:40:32
They are just upset because they have all been reporting that he is staying and now have egg on their faces.
31 May 2026 20:07:17
Journalists are paid by clicks, controversy creates clicks, gaslighting the fans saying it was Salah, Jones, the fans that got him sacked = controversy which = clicks...
31 May 2026 18:09:02
Just been stood behind Ken in the chippy getting his Sunday tea.
He was talking with another guy (he mentioned he flies a helicopter) and they were chatting about the next Liverpool manager.
From what I overheard - Edwards thinks he can do the job himself from behind his PC by utilising spreadsheets and AI, to be fuelled by the tea lady loading him up with caffeine on a regular basis.
31 May 2026 19:18:25
AI in football is me done with football. Don't even use that crap at my own job.
31 May 2026 19:53:47
So I new manager is Chat Gbt.
31 May 2026 18:06:53
Well I for one would live Liverpool to throw the kitchen sink at Enrique. All other teams have their managers in so have to try our best to test Enrique’s resolve.
This would also mean end of Hughes and possibly Edwards at the club as Enrique would want most of that control.
I hope this happens.
31 May 2026 19:10:22
I mean, he'd be a complete fool, but I agree with you 😂
It would probably take a lot. Something that would look like
•Make him the best paid manager in Europe.
•Give him a monster transfer budget.
•50% off in the LFC Store.
•Windows cleaned off the Formby dude.
•1 free trip round Knowsley Safari Park (including monkey zone) driven by Rome1977 on the back of his moped.
31 May 2026 19:19:37
It's over, Cafu. Iraola is the new manager now. Get behind the guy and move on.
31 May 2026 19:26:15
Do I need to buy a moped, LFC8?
31 May 2026 19:48:19
If you need to buy a moped for us to get Enrique, you bloody well buy a moped, Rome!
31 May 2026 19:55:29
Now you've put it that way, Zed, I'm just off to Mopeds "R" Us.
31 May 2026 18:19:42
Ed1 is the club not concerned that they are losing players on a free more and more as each season progresses? Seems we are just letting players leave Willy nilly!
{Ed001's Note - yes but what is the alternative? They can't pay them what they want, so if the player is just greedy, they will leave.}
31 May 2026 18:57:16
If that's the case with Ibou then good riddance. It's not as if the club wouldn't have been offering him very very good money. If he'd rather leave for a few grand more, it says a lot about what he's about.
31 May 2026 19:14:55
Like essentially every single footballer.
31 May 2026 19:20:55
And you can't make players sign contracts they don't want to sign, either.
It's called a negotiation process for a reason.
31 May 2026 17:33:51
Konate officially gone on a free now, I see.
Weekend keeps on getting better n better!
31 May 2026 18:02:42
Awful last season but under a different coach he could've regained his past form, an international player leaving on a free.
I maybe don't understand what's happening behind the scenes but seems a loss to me.
{Ed001's Note - his past form was poor as well.}
31 May 2026 18:10:06
Agree, Clee
The amount of money we've let walk out of the door is criminal.
31 May 2026 18:18:14
How do you propose we keep any player who doesn't agree to a contract extension?
Open to ideas.....
31 May 2026 18:27:49
Sell him a year before for a fee.
31 May 2026 18:28:32
Deal with it one way or another before it gets to the final year of a contract.
Buy players who we need - to allow us to sit players on the bench or leave out of the squad altogether until they sign, or transfer out.
31 May 2026 18:34:20
Thank God, an awful player.
31 May 2026 18:36:55
If he doesn't agree to a contract, then surely you sell him for whatever you can get a year or 2 before.
31 May 2026 18:43:16
Not if he doesn't want to leave.
31 May 2026 18:58:55
Yes, Rome,
Follow up question to Clee, SirBob and Livered:
How do you propose we sell a player who doesn't want to leave?
Open to all ideas.
31 May 2026 19:02:17
Problem is, these players want to go to the iconic clubs. Clubs, though, who don't always want to commit to wages and a transfer fee. So you can say sell them with a year left, but they'll just refuse to go. Ibou, I would bet, will end up at a top club, because they are getting him for nowt.
But I betcha the same team wouldn't have been interested last year when they'd have had to give us 30 or 40m. Players have no problem at all pissing all over their current club. Trent should have thought us all that.
31 May 2026 19:03:52
Lawrenson, Hansen, Virgil, Hyppia, Yates, Smith, Hughes. That's the level we need to be looking at. Maybe one day we add the names Leoni and Jaquet. We will never be adding Konate.
31 May 2026 19:04:18
No international player is going to risk sitting on their backside out of the team.
You either:
A) sign
B) train and don't play
C) transfer out.
31 May 2026 19:04:20
I expect if he wasn't being played and knew he'd miss out on a World Cup call out he'd want to leave. However, we didn't really have the cover to do that, so the point is moot. He was an important part of our league win, so maybe worth it. Sadly this season has been a calamity and we can do better. Bye, Ibouuuuuu.
31 May 2026 19:17:35
I don't have the answers, Ron, but I also don't recall too many top teams letting first team international players leave on a free for the second season running.
31 May 2026 19:21:04
That's not a realistic ultimatum, Sir Bob.
Players have the power, clubs just have to suck it up, and some clubs (Madrid) let player's representatives know that they're interested in signing them when their contract expires.
Look at Isak, forced a move even though Newcastle did not want to sell. Players have the power.
31 May 2026 19:22:38
Skrtl; Babb; Wright; Paletta; Piechnik; Coates; Davies; Ilori; Kyrigiakos; Kabak; Whitbread; Traore; Sakho..... Need I go on.
We can look all day at players of high calibre. If they don't want to come to us (there are some very entitled 'fans' on here) or we can't pay their fee/wages. What do we, or any other club, do?
31 May 2026 19:59:50
Ron, you can't force a player to leave a year before their contract ends. I agree.
However, if an offer had been made for Konate last summer (and I'm not saying that was the case) they should have weighed up the situation (that he is very replaceable) and taken the money.
