A mate of mine who lives in Germany has told me that we had scouts watching Karim Demerbay (spelling is probably wrong) of Hoffenheim very recently.

He is a Turkish-German lad who has turned out for Germany a few times. He's very technical and has wicked left footed free kicks. Not blessed with pace but can dribble well and a pretty powerful left foot.

I remember some of his indirect free kicks caused us problems (as well as our overly high line) in the Champions League play offs.

Not sure if this is a Lallana long term replacement being looked at if true, doubt it's to replace Coutinho but we'll see.

Kev I know exactly the guy your on about while he does stand out in his previous team I'm not sure he's what we need pal and I'm not sure how long he's been there would he have played there with Bobby?

2.) 09 Jan 2018 18:16:05
i Think we looked into him in the summer if I remember correctly but he lost his form from last season. Tbf he had a good season last year, nothing more and I’d say he is a) not what we need and b) not good enough.

Also i don’t think he will develop into a great player anytime soon and his stats (14 games, 2 goals, 1 assist) aren’t the best for a offensive midfielder.

3.) 09 Jan 2018 18:47:21
No worries guys.
Haven't seen enough of him personally, I'd be underwhelmed if we got him to tell the truth.
I could see he was quite technical and has good set pieces but after that, meh!
Would rather a more physically gifted player personally to fill a Central Midfielder role.

4.) 09 Jan 2018 17:30:27
'Not blessed with pace".
Forget it. Let's not even go there again.

Hey ed025, are you Joe Anderson in disguise? :-)

{Ed025's Note - no juicer, if i was then the blues would be in their new stadium now mate..

5.) 09 Jan 2018 19:04:40
Aren’t Everton linked with him now?

6.) 09 Jan 2018 20:08:38
Meant the alleged Barkley letter ed025, you were a touch upset about the transfer the other day. Everton have been had over there by the looks of it?

{Ed025's Note - i think its something and nothing juicer, joe seems to have a bee in his bonnet about it but i cant see what chelsea have done wrong mate..

Hope all are well on the site.

Been away a while so apologies if this was mentioned previously, but have to say a huge well done to Dejan Lovren on that goal saving tackle early in the match against Porto - he gets enough stick when he messes up, so he deserves credit where it is due.

That shot was definitely heading in, as Karius was gone off to his left.

Goes without saying, some of the goals the other night were sensational, it was such a great result - players like Ings, Chamberlain, Woodburn, Moreno and Klavan might well get a start in the 2nd leg hopefully.

Well done boys, it's not over yet of course but this gives a chance to rest a few important players.

I see we're linked to Sardar Azmoun again, strange one that.

OIrish Kev 1

1.) 19 Feb 2018 08:22:57
Agreed mate, fantastic block.

2.) 19 Feb 2018 09:23:14
Thought Lovren and Virgil looked good together all game. Fingers crossed they can build on that over the rest of the season. I'd be tempted to leave the full-back situation as is and maybe look to an upgrade for Matip in the Summer if someone becomes available. Other areas to upgrade for me would be Migs + a creative midfielder. Also, if Origi, Ings and Sturridge move on we need to be replacing with 1 or 2 new faces as cover for the Fab 3. Not suggesting any names for the new recruits, I'll trust Klopp for that detail.

3.) 19 Feb 2018 10:40:14
Agreed, Lovren and Van Dijk seem to forming a good partnership there. I hope Klopp doesn't rotate his centre defensive pairing too much and allow them to form a solid understanding.

Having said that, how does everyone feel about Klopp going to a back 3 near the end of games even when we are winning? I personally don't like as changing the system mid game causes more confusion IMO. Is it possibly to give Matip more game time?

4.) 19 Feb 2018 10:54:16
Personally I don’t want Ings going anywhere. I’d like to see him get some time in the pitch. He is a good finisher, let’s see if he can still cut it at the highest level.

5.) 19 Feb 2018 15:01:26
ComeonredMen, we already have Ings and Solanke for that if Studge and Origi do leave which is likely. You don't replace players who normally can't get a game cos that is how you assemble a bloated and unbalanced squad. What is needed now is for them to get a real chance and give them time to grow BUT I guess that is poison for some fans who want a striker gone cos he's not yet Harry Kane.

Origi scored 22 goals in two seasons as THIRD choice YET many got on his back, as if you will find a third choice striker with those types of stats in the PL. Spoiler alert: You won't. People have been getting on Solanke's back as well while forgetting that he's still a kid learning the game at the highest level while Ings needs a LOT of time to get back to his pre injury LFC days where he was scoring goals.

As for the CB', people should stop singling out the CB's for criticism cos every man and his dog knows that it is not how great your CB's are individually BUT how they form a great partnership where they know each other's moves, tendencies, strengths and weaknesses in a way that they compliment each other. Lovren/ VVD would make a good partnership esp. with a GK like Karius who they trust and know will always communicate effectively with them.

6.) 19 Feb 2018 16:42:35
Just on the note of Karius communicating with his CB pairing - did you not see him 'save' VVD's head in the game against Porto? It was well funny.

Summer window is going to be very interesting.
Less time to get in who you want and prices possibly still remaining higher like they've been since the Neymar-PSG transfer.

So it's almost a case of should we wait to see who fires off first and some clubs praying the market drops back down a bit lower again or they won't be able to afford many/ any decent players.

It's almost reminding me of one of those "pyramid schemes" from a few years ago - whoever gets the ball rolling earlier might stand to win more and the last to move loses out at the end - think Salah with us last summer - we got him pretty early and his price must have quadrupled (at least) in less than 12 months.

Top 4 is even more vital than ever now I feel.

1.) 10 Feb 2018 12:03:44
WE CAN AGREE ALL DEALS NOW. Just not register deals until window is open. Why be so reactive. Start being proactive. We already have naby, now go and get a deal sorted for whoever else we want in principle.

2.) 10 Feb 2018 22:46:52
How many deals are agreed before the window? Like, I know it happens but feel like its pretty rare especially for "star" players so to speak.

{Ed002's Note - Talks go on all of the time.}

3.) 10 Feb 2018 23:13:51
Ed2, aware that talks are going on. But how often are there agreements reached outside the window between clubs?

{Ed002's Note - it is fairly common.}

08 Feb 2018 10:46:14
Not to turn the page into something else, but I hope all of you on here will join me in wishing the best to James Bolger's family who are now going through repeated torture for the umpteenth time now and their historic case is clearly not being taken seriously at all by the decision makers in the justice system in the UK.

It's 25 years ago on the 12th of this month and I hope and pray that the next 25 can be as peaceful as possible for his poor family.

RIP James kid!

OIrish Kev 1

{Ed001's Note - well said mate. It could easily have been my little cousin who was the same age and in the strand at the same time as this happened.}

1.) 08 Feb 2018 11:14:05
Yeah well said Kev, bloody hell mate been reading about it again recently, that poor family, I mean word's can't even describe it. Rip kidda.

2.) 08 Feb 2018 12:16:52
Yeah Salah, you're absolutely right - words just cannot describe this injustice, I'm heartbroken for the family.

With any luck, they'll get their justice real soon.

3.) 08 Feb 2018 12:27:58
Yeah apparently though we need to lay off John venables as he still has room to change.

Even though he's on his second child image offence.

Rip James. Never forgotten.

4.) 08 Feb 2018 14:09:14
Poor parents. I can't even imagine what they are feeling and have felt for the last 25 years. They've had to deal with that pain, longer than I've been alive. It's non-comprehendible.

I hope they get justice, in whatever form it comes in.

RIP.

5.) 08 Feb 2018 15:37:43
I don't understand how two human beings at that age even know how to take a life and to get the sentence they did because of there age is a disgrace. Take a life you lose your life and should still be locked up now so the family wouldn't have to go through what they are right now.

6.) 08 Feb 2018 16:14:26
They almost where if not for a stupid decision from a judge.

Read there interviews. RT was not a child. He took a rose to the scene before being arrested and actually brought it up as his reasoning for why he was innocent "why would i take a rose to James if I killed him". A ten year old please.

7.) 09 Feb 2018 11:07:57
That's chilling stuff, when you consider that they were scouting for a while for the right target that day in the shopping center!

I'm truly, truly horrified reading yesterday and today's news on this again.

The authorities involved have been nothing short of a disgrace with this from day one and again now yesterday.
James' poor family must be distraught each time this pops up due to this one sick individual.

He CLEARLY has not changed and will for sure keep on re-offending along these same lines.

Will it take another child's death to have the authorities open their eyes to that?! It looks like it and that will happen with him if given half a chance, the evidence of a future, sick and similar crime is all there in his latest offence - it's sickness beyond words!

Anyway, I hope James' family get their full justice some day real soon, god love them!

8.) 09 Feb 2018 11:48:29
I read Paul's Brittons book on this - he readily admits he kept the worst parts of the crime out of the book but what little he had to say was sickening. Poor James Bulger's parents must have suffered through the years- and it can't be an easier for them when they hear that Venables keeps getting busted in relation to sexual exploitation of children.

9.) 10 Feb 2018 14:41:17
The wife told me what they did, probably not everything as I had to stop her.

I thought I had a pretty strong stomach for things like that, but what she told me turned me inside out and upside down.

It's not hard to find recent images of the re-offender online, he's one sick individual and if you live near Liverpool/ Manchester, my advice is to find and take a good, long look at these images and remember what he looks like.

Wish I could do more to help, it's unbelievable the way he has been protected after re-offending so many times - his old Lawyer from the 90's has even said anonymity was wasted on him.

07 Feb 2018 13:46:16
Who is/ was the best Goalkeeper you've ever seen?

Dasayev for me in the 80's was incredible - Schmeichel of course was excellent but there was something that stood out about Dasayev for me, I can't quite put my finger on it.

Incredible agility and shot stopper, his kicking - well that was not so good but the back pass rule only came in around 1991/ 92 and he was on the way out at that stage, luckily for him.

Cheers.

OIrish Kev 1

1.) 07 Feb 2018 14:19:07
Hate to say it but Schmeichel whilst at Man U was best keeper I have ever seen in my time watching football
the closest thing I have to seen to him was Cech before the head injury
Again pains me to say it but De gea is top top class nowadays
but overall I would say Buffon for his length of time at the top.

2.) 07 Feb 2018 14:41:51
Good choices John.

Buffon was and still is top class.
Some saves he made defied physics almost at times.

I'd have added Seaman to that list too only for his weakness with lobs.
His positioning was questionable on a few occasions which led to long range lobs beating him in a few big games, not least against Zaragoza I think it was with Nayim lobbing him in the last seconds of a European final to win the game.

3.) 07 Feb 2018 14:51:10
Iker Casillas or Gianlugi Buffon for me, I grew up watching them play. I was only 4 years old when Schmeichel left United so I can't say I seen much of him other than clips on TV so I couldn't call him the best. I remember admiring Dida at Ac Milan as well.

4.) 07 Feb 2018 14:59:44
Has to be Schmichael and Buffon because I can't choose between them. And a special mention to Packie Bonner for Euro 88 and Italia 90😁.

5.) 07 Feb 2018 15:25:33
Pat Jennings off course! 😆.

6.) 07 Feb 2018 15:33:47
Casillas is a terrible keeper, Buffon on the other hand is one of the greatest ever.

7.) 07 Feb 2018 15:36:06
Casillas is the most overrated goal keeper ever.

Buffon ze best.

8.) 07 Feb 2018 15:50:46
Schmeichael and Buffon are the two standouts in my mind. Both very different styles, Buffon more flamboyant whereas Schmeichael probably an archetypical 'old school' keeper. if I had to choose I would say Schmeichael probably just edges it as, despite his large frame, he was very agile and able to make some truly gravity-defying saves. I'd also say he commanded his area slightly more. Be happy with either in my team though, both absolutely world class.

9.) 07 Feb 2018 15:58:40
Buffon for me was/ is the best I’ve ever seen. Two out of left field that I always rated were Angelo peruzzi and Gregory coupet. That’s my top 3. If Schmeichel wasn’t a manc he probably would have made it in 😀.

10.) 07 Feb 2018 16:55:40
Seen is Buffon but a game changer was Neuer as he has redefined goalkeeping with the rushing out sweeper keeper role, albeit goalkeepers have to be excellent with their feet also.

All time however -

Lev Yashin!

11.) 07 Feb 2018 17:52:20
Easy, gigi Buffon. Around 2 decades of utter class. Shame he never won the champions league though.

12.) 07 Feb 2018 17:55:39
What about Neville Shouthall? Thought he was pretty reliable in his day. And I know it's the Liverpool page so please don't go to town on me lol.

{Ed001's Note - he would get my vote mate.}

13.) 07 Feb 2018 18:09:31
Now how did I forget about Neville Southall excellent keeper. Good cause I can get rid of Schmichael.

14.) 07 Feb 2018 18:51:23
I think Zubizarretta was very good, he made goalkeeping look easy, he read the game well so he rarely made flashy saves, I miss that kind of goalkeeper.

15.) 07 Feb 2018 19:02:46
Buffon, hands down. I watched his debut in 1996 vs the Milan team and the legendary George Weah in his prime. He kept a clean sheet and the first choice, the injured Lucca Bucci, never got his place back. The rest is history.

{Ed001's Note - the reason I would never opt for Buffon is because he never got to improve after his early days due to the back problem that has plagued his career. It is a miracle he has managed to play at the top level, let alone so long. I just don't see him being able to perform the miracles Southall did for many years. Some of his Wales' performances were just out of this world. Buffon has always played in a team that protected him and made it easier for him, Southall spent most of his career having to singlehandedly keep scores down. And any keeper that can win the man of the match award despite his team losing 7-1 deserves respect.}

16.) 07 Feb 2018 22:27:27
Spot on, ED01. I remember Southall singled handedly winning Everton the FA Cup in 1995. Now that was a performance. I just liked Buffon cos I followed his career from jump and he grew a lot faster than many thought even tho, I agree with you that he played in very good teams. Even that Parma team he played on had the likes of Chiesa, Crespo, Fuser, Boghossian and the excellent Fabio Carnavaro as well as the solid Lillian Thuram.

17.) 08 Feb 2018 01:42:56
ROGERIO CENI.

At least he was the best on fifa 2005.

05 Feb 2018 10:00:52
I saw someone saying how pundits said Lamela was definitely fouled on some analysis after the game and the poster was angry about that.

What we need to keep in mind is who these individual pundits are, what they did in their career in these situations themselves i. e. Thierry Henry is a pundit for Sly, if there's a contentious handball incident in the future that he has to analyse, how can we take him seriously doing so when he himself famously intentionally did so in a very big international match a few years back, then sat on the pitch with the team he cheated - may as well ask Maradonna for his opinion.

Diving and other cheating tactics has become part of the game over the last 15 years or so (especially), it is the authorities' fault for not stamping it out at the time - I remember it was even brought into an official FIFA video game when I was a kid, talk about glamourising it FIFA, well done there lads?!

Cheating needs to be stamped out, Gerrard used to annoy me to my deepest roots diving for pens a few years ago - he was one of the worst, the law makers need to either make this a completely non-contact sport or crack down on all diving cheaters.

OIrish Kev 1

1.) 05 Feb 2018 10:12:05
Even though I think both pens were dives Souness and Carragher thought they were both fouls.
There's no conspiracy against Liverpool.

2.) 05 Feb 2018 10:33:36
Don't think there's a conspiracy at all lol.
It was just awful assistant refereeing in my opinion as he couldn't have been 100% clear.

3.) 05 Feb 2018 11:05:42
Flidby, no one is saying that and to my mind, Souness and Carra (who rarely has anything good to say about Klopp, mind you) cannot say they were dives YET say they were fouls. Both cannot be correct at the same time. The first pen is not even worth the time as it was offside based on Law 11 (page 22) of the offside law.

On the second, the ref saw it and waved it away as play acting until the linesman (who missed a blatant Lamela offside prior) convinced him of seeing from 25 yards away, what the ref did not see from 10 yards out. We got robbed by two clueless clowns who let the game get away from them and don't even know the offside rule and had to ask Eriksen if Lovren touched the ball. Yeah, that happened. If you have to do that as a ref then, you need to be sacked as a PL ref.

4.) 05 Feb 2018 15:37:45
Worse the the 2 clowns on the pitch was the so called refereeing expert dermot Gallagher, who agreed and indeed praised them on their work. Considering he had all replays of the incidents before commenting!

5.) 05 Feb 2018 16:14:09
I seem to remember when it came out in the FIFA game is was essentially a trap - when someone broke into the code they realised it had something ridiculous like a 99.99% chance of getting a yellow card for it. Similarly there was a foul button, but it was a trap - you got called up for it basically every time. It seemed like a promotion of the tactic but the reality was it was meant to be a 'crime doesn't pay' type message. Sadly it didn't really work because no-one remembered the 1000 times you were carded for it, you remember the glorious moment you win the CL final when it worked.

6.) 05 Feb 2018 19:20:25
seems to me that the pundits on Sly Sports have a certain agenda, and they would prefer that Liverpool were not top dogs, we just have to prove them wrong .

7.) 07 Feb 2018 01:17:26
Happy - I hope you aren't implying that another part of the media empire owned by the owner of the S*n might have some invested interests in LFC having a quieter voice in British sports.

I guess we'll see if he comes in the Summer.
I liked the look of him in the play offs but didn't see him as quite good enough for us.

I've been wrong many times before, might be wrong about him now but regardless, I'll support him if he wears our colours.
Cheers all!

A few of those guys around still sadly Mikey yeah.
Also see the most recent Sevilla manager's profile/ backstory, although he still denies it to this day (can't remember his name, sorry, he was in charge until around November/ December 2017).

MK, Thanks for searching that out for me, much appreciated mate - top man as always!

Adam, no worries mate, I still don't see this happening, probably not even in the summer, he's not a bad player but not necessarily good enough for what we would be hoping for.
Reminds me of Lallana personally but not as good.

Adam,
I did mention this back in early January mate, if you use the search function and search for Demerbay (had the wrong spelling at the time, apologies about that), the whole conversation should come up mate.

87red,

Arguably one of the silliest digs or comment I have seen on here or any other forum in my near on 40 years.

You are just having a sly dig at the guy, get a life mate, or at least explain your comment instead of it just being left dead at "how on earth are you qualified to talk about the greatest era of defenders that ever lived when if memory serves right you're about 23 years old".

Idiotic!

OIrish Kev 1
