German football news outlet "kicker" reported that we are currently monitoring Benjamin Pavards contract situation as he is holding of signing a new contract with bayern.

His contract will end next summer. He usually plays CB for bayern but also plays as a RB for france, if im not mistaken.

If the rumours of players like Timber and Pavard (both RB/ CB) are true it suggests a full move in position for Trent. Either Trent goes fully into midfield (more likely I'd say) or perhaps he even goes over to play as an inverted left back like Cancelo did. I really like both Timber and Pavard by the way. Both extremely comfortable on the ball and good at defending in wide areas if they get dragged out.

Maybe because we've now messed up Amrabat and Ugarte for a DM signing, it's easier to just put Trent there. I saw that since he moved to the inverted role he's regained possession more than any other player in the league, so he's shown he has the ball winning prowess in midfield areas to do that DM job. It might now be seen as better value in the market to buy a good RB than a good DM.

It's all just rumours right now though so we'll have to wait and see if any of these links are substantiated. We're still being linked with a lot of CB's who can play LB too (Van de Ven being the latest) .

Interesting times. Does seem like we're not targeting like for like players. Goal scoring number 10's for midfield, more defensive minded full backs etc. A change in direction tactically possibly, but i hope we keep our high intensity however we line up in terms of shape!

Hi MK,

I’d just like to say that I value your insight into the game as a whole, you’re obviously a bit of a thinker and I always enjoy your posts.
So maybe you (and any others, of course) can help me clear my thinking. The simplest way to ask the question is…
On the Sly Sports team sheet next season, will it still be a 433 or will or be a 343 with a box midfield?
(Hopefully the gist of my question comes across…)

3.) 26 May 2023 20:20:05
Hard to know MancScouser. For the record I've got doubts the Timber and Pavard links are genuine so I'll base my reply on what I believe from Ed002, rather than the press. I'm not in the know on who we will sign or what the plans are for Trent but i think this new system has been too successful to drop/ change it. Sky are weird how they show formations by the way. So for example they show the Man City formatiom as 3-2-4-1. Rodri and Stones being the 2, Haaland being the 1 and i'm sure you can fill in the gaps for the back 3 and attacking 4. So i guess they might show ours in a similar way assuming we continue with Trent in a hybrid role. Only player I'm confident we'll sign is MacAllister. So Maybe something like: (3-2-4-1)

Alisson
Konate, Virgil, Robbo
Trent, Fabinho
Salah, Hendo, MacAllister, Diaz
Gakpo

I do also expect to see competition signed for Robbo, Fabinho and Hendo as well though with a more defensively minded LB/ CB, a more mobile CM/ DM and a RM/ AM who will score more goals. Ed002 as confirmed interest in lots of players that fit that criteria. We can also easily upgrade them with younger players who suit this system more. I can only guess who those players might be. With Schmadtke taking the DoF role i would not be surprised if a couple of the new signings came from the Bundesliga (which he'll know very well) . I definitely expect at least 1 of the new players to qualify as homegrown too.

Have you heard anything about Karim Konaté from Salzburg?

According to some news out of Austria (i think originally from an Nigerian news outlet) we are in for him.

He is the top goal scorer in the Austrian second division (17 Games, 14 Goals) and also played for the first team of Salzburg (5 Games, 1 Goal) . Seems to be a young promising prospect who just turned 18.

Crammie

{Ed002's Note - Karim Konate (F) RBS have loaned him to Liefering and are undecided if he will be ready to replace Sesko so he could be offered for sale or have another loan. It would be very difficult to obtain a Work Permit to play in England.}

According to Reports from Germany Liverpool have made a bid for Thorgen Hazard. It is rumoured that the bid is higher than the one from Dortmund (~40 mio €) and Gladbach is willing to sell him to Liverpool rather than Dortmund.

Hazard is keen on joining Dortmund though as they promised him more playing time.

Crammie

1.) 08 Apr 2019 12:38:25
How can we bid when the TW is not open mate? Not one that Ed’s has said we have interest in either.

2.) 08 Apr 2019 13:02:46
Not saying we have bid Virgil, but you can h8d outside a transfer window. You can agree everything. Wages, contract length, transfer fee etc. You just can't transfer registration until the w/ o do a opens. Either way, not sure I believe we've bid for him. But if we wanted to we could.

3.) 08 Apr 2019 14:22:08
if we can't be linked with Insigne, Depay and the like because it will mean that one of our front 3 will have to be sold. coupled with the fact that we ARE looking for an AM/ LM, why can't we bid for a player like T. Hazard?

Eintlik . . . we can a team that's competing for the title bid for?

4.) 08 Apr 2019 14:48:14
Ed do we have any interest in Thorgen Hazard please?

{Ed002's Note - I will try and explain the situation regarding Thorgan Hazard as best I can. Borussia Dortmund agreed before Christmas that they would take Thorgan Hazard for next season as he can play both as an AM and a LW and they have players in those positions they wish to move on. What they did not realise at the time was Andre Schurrle would be returning from his loan a year early. So they need to move AS on and have offered him to a couple of sides - one of which is Borussia Moenchengladbach - as part of the deal for Hazard. Right now the clubs have not agreed any price and nothing will be confirmed until they do. I am not aware of any offer for Hazard from Liverpool and he, again, would not move to sit on the bench at Anfield.}

5.) 08 Apr 2019 14:51:32
I think Hazard would be a good fit as a rotational Player. I would see he is a upgrade to Shaquiri and could be used as either rotation for our wings or with OX in the offensive midfield.

However i don't think there is much to it. He seems pretty much set on dortmund and in this case he has more power over his future than his Club as he has just one more year left on his contract and Gladbach has and wants to sell him as they need the money.

6.) 08 Apr 2019 15:56:53
Thank you Ed for clearing that up. Crammie he won’t move to be a rotation player mate as explained by Ed.

7.) 08 Apr 2019 18:04:35
60 games, three or four attackers will leave. Plenty of games to go around for another attacker.

8.) 08 Apr 2019 18:38:16
Little Naby I agree what your saying mate but the trouble we have is improving the back ups we already have. Origi and Brewster will be scorching chances next year along with Shaqiri who can all cover the front 3. Unless one of our starting front 3 leave then we shouldn’t expect to much other than squad padding and back up players.

9.) 08 Apr 2019 20:23:28
Is it attackers we have missed this season? I don’t get it maybe we have missed someone in midfield to pull the strings but don’t think it’s our front three that need an addition. Origi has come on end of this season him
And Brewster should be fine to cover us. Would rather us spend the money in areas we need to strengthen lb/ lm rb/ cb maybe another midfielder if one leaves.

10.) 09 Apr 2019 19:56:05
Virgil, Madrid agreed to sign Eder Militao in March, with him signing on July 1st, so it's very possible to agree to a transfer outside of the window.

11.) 13 Apr 2019 11:56:37
Watched Hazard play a tonne for Munchengladbach last season and this season nad IMO, he is not all that. He has flashes of brilliance and all that BUT too inconsistent. In fact a week or so back, his manager pulled him from the game in the.31st minute due to severely poor play. That's all you need to know, right there. There are other wingers/ wide forwards we can get BUT Thorgan Hazard to me, would be a waste of money.

01 Jun 2018 08:24:33
Apperently we are in for Bernard from Shakhtar.

Free Transfer, 25 yo, Left Winger/ Attacking Midfielder. Could be a decent addition and would strengthen our bench.

Crammie

1.) 01 Jun 2018 08:51:40
was about to post this. he has not exactly lit up the Ukrainian league though but for a free transfer is a decent option.
on the other hand he is a player we were interested in the BR era, don't know if we should go back to that.

2.) 01 Jun 2018 09:50:01
He’s done well in the Ukraine, pacey and tricky but very small which would worry me in the prem. I could see him going to China for mega wages.

{Ed002's Note - You don't think he is today's "done deal" for Liverpool then?

3.) 01 Jun 2018 09:56:15
Surely that's Dembele, Ed002, or was that yesterday?

{Ed002's Note - Dembele was confirmed as a "done deal" last evening. Obviously Fekir the day befor that.}

4.) 01 Jun 2018 10:16:30
Wow these transfer thingies move fast. So, if we're going to sign a player every day until the window shuts, how many will that be? I suppose a lot will have to be swap deals so we don't end up with a squad of 100 senior players.

5.) 01 Jun 2018 10:22:51
Thanks Ed002, that's some squad we're building!

{Ed002's Note - And don't forget that the fat kid from Bolton has already confirmed Lemar.}

6.) 01 Jun 2018 10:36:57
Talk about keeping the deals under the radar, that we're not even confirming players we've already signed, multiple times!
😂😂😂😂.

7.) 01 Jun 2018 11:38:58
Ed002- No, I think he will end up in China.

{Ed002's Note - That is an option but there are a couple of interested clubs.}

8.) 01 Jun 2018 12:04:36
My wife works in Bolton, poor thing, so I’ve asked her to keep an eye open for the fat kid and ask him about the transfers! Unfortunately 10 minutes in, she has said there are too many to choose from with that description, so alas no news from him!

9.) 01 Jun 2018 13:50:25
Ask her to look for a fat kid in Bolton obsessed with Liverp-oh, wait.

09 Apr 2018 12:29:29
Juve Boss Marotta said that there will be a decision in terms of Cans Transfer in the next 10 days.

I thought he canceld all contract talks till summer. Is that just Juves Deadline because they need to plan ahead or is it just something he said to create pressure on Can?

Crammie

1.) 09 Apr 2018 14:50:49
I belive both, as Juve and not only them but the clubs overall needs to plan ahead, and Can needs some pressure as he really is holding them and us aswell.

2.) 09 Apr 2018 16:10:26
Can could well have kicked his last ball in an LFC shirt.

3.) 09 Apr 2018 18:22:40
If he if he doesn't want to stay an commit get rid in my opinion no one is bigger than the club.

4.) 09 Apr 2018 20:19:33
It’s not about him committing. He knows he’s falling down the pecking order with Keita arriving.
If Lallana has remained fit, Can would have played a lot less this season.
You can’t question his commitment.
He gives his all.
It’s a shame he just hasn’t pushed on.

5.) 09 Apr 2018 21:39:32
Truth hurts - If he doesn’t want to stay then he will leave, we have no say in the matter.

6.) 10 Apr 2018 10:57:56
I don't see the point of getting all twisted and upset because Can is almost certain to be leaving. During the course of his stay with us he has been used as utility defender and midfielder and for most of the games acquitted himself well, we signed a promising kid and should just be happy for the man he has become playing here. Cans'professionalism has not Been called into question once and he has not disrupted the team in the same way as others who have left. I say good luck to Can and wish him well in whatever club he chooses as long as he never plays well against us.

7.) 10 Apr 2018 18:11:33
He hardly plays well against anyone else so Sod's law says he'll be awesome against us.

8.) 10 Apr 2018 18:19:00
Why would he make decision whilst we are still in Europe? If he was fit he would start tonight. We have a chance even slim of winning it, why would he cut his own throat. if he says he's going klopp would lose the trust of his other midfielders if he got a game in the final wouldn't he.

9.) 11 Apr 2018 11:08:47
flidby - I'd have to disagree there actually. I think his commitment is a major part of the problem - he gives his all in the big games but he's one of the worst in the squad for switching off and taking it easy against the so called smaller teams, and I can count at least 5 times he's avoided a hard challenge or a tactical foul that ended up costing us badly. I could not say with confidence that he gives his all - I think he's been saving himself to try and catch someones eye this year.

Can update: He had an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung which is a newspaper here in germany.

"I know that my abillitys are sufficient enough for me to play for a top team. For me the most important thing is to be an important part of a team and that the team will win titles as it is the best rewards for playing well. Bundesliga? Sure, why not but it has lost quality over the last few years. I enjoy playing in the prem as it suits my playstlye quiet well but i don't want to rule out other leagues as well. The La liga is very appealing. Same goes for the bundesliga, which is very tactical and also the Serie A and Ligue 1 cought up over the last few years. I don't want to rule out anything because i don't know what i will do in the Summer. "

He goes on talking about his life as a footballer and about his parents which is a good read but im not bothered trying to translate it (as my translation above is dodgie enough)

Looks like he is keeping his options open but i get the feeling that he made up his mind about not renewing his contract.

Crammie

1.) 21 Mar 2018 07:31:08
Really not bothered to be honest. He's so hot and cold, a bit like Gini. The question is, is he the type of midfielder that would help us win the league? That's the question I ask of any potential new signing. Keita? Hopefully. Hendo? debatable but I'm a fan. Ox? time will tell. Can? I doubt it. Consistency is his problem and as stupid as it may sound, I'd gamble on Grujic over him.

{Ed001's Note - why Grujic? I do not see anything in Grujic to suggest he is any good at all.}

2.) 21 Mar 2018 07:57:51
My feelings are he will go to City. I have said it for months now and with his agent saying waiting until summer (when he can sign for premiership teams! ) Will be disappointed but as the Eds say that's football.

3.) 21 Mar 2018 08:08:20
I still believe he will stay in the Premier League. He's undecided but (if the translation is accurate) he's open to La liga more than the Bundesliga or Serie A. I think his first choice is Real Madrid but he will end up in ManC. In the end, the $ always wins out, and ManC pay very well.

4.) 21 Mar 2018 08:13:52
I think it is a blessing in disguise that we would go and we will go for someone else that is more a more complete holding midfielder.

He's good on this day but we really need someone better. And also I do not think Keita is the alternate. He would be one of the advanced midfield players in the 4-3-3, has never been a holding / sitting player and would also be wasted as a holding player.

5.) 21 Mar 2018 08:28:08
If we had to play Man City with Can in their midfield i don't see our players quaking in their footy boots.

6.) 21 Mar 2018 08:28:35
Can, Grujic and Lallana are goners in my opinion. Can wants too many promises, Grujic needs too much game time, and Lallana talks too much and has as many red cards for the u23's in the last 15 months as he has managed goals + assists for the first team.

Milner I think Klopp will want to keep, but I expect James himself to want to move on.

In terms of replacing Can? I'm certain that will be Naby Keita who will step straight into the starting XI in his place.

Replacing Grujic would be pointless as he never plays anyway.

Replacing Lallana is a little bit harder to call as we've shown interest in lots of players. I have faith in Ed002's input though and he implies Ceballos is a genuine option.

If Milner was to leave as well and Klopp can't convince him to stay as back up, then I think we might move for someone like Demirbay. I trust Ed001's judgement though and he doesn't think both Milner and Lallana will leave in one window.

I do still think that Klopp will go back in for Lemar to replace Coutinho though. In my opinion, he'll be what modern fans call the "marquee" signing. I know others would prefer Jorginho but I can't see it. There is a long standing interest in Lemar and as we saw with VVD and Keita, Klopp would rather wait and get his first choice, than just move on.

If our midfield was Keita, Ceballos, Henderson, Gini and Milner with Ox and Lemar able to play in midfield or wide in the front 3, I think we'd have some serious stopping power in midfield!

7.) 21 Mar 2018 09:17:34
MK I think Ed002 has said we can forget Lemar at the moment. I’d take draxler and Keita. It’d be a bonus to get another ball playing midfielder tho too.

8.) 21 Mar 2018 09:28:29
Lemar won't happen. Too expensive and has not lived up to his billing this season. Draxler makes sense as he would be cheaper and can play LW plus LCM as we have seen at PSG this season. We also need another mid along with Keita. Jorginho is the best fit imo as he could play with Hendo and Keita in a midfield 3 or with Keita and OX/ Draxler. My 3rd signing would be a RB to allow Gomez to move to CB. And convince Ward to continue as Karius's competition after Migs leaves.

9.) 21 Mar 2018 09:38:08
Why keep Milner? Coz he is a top model and runs around a lot? Really? That logic would have kept Zabaleta at City. Can we just come off from this “ Sentiments “. the players don’t care a damn about our club, why are we feeling for them?
Milner, Lallana, Solanke, Origi, Can, Grujic all should be out of the door! These players are Joe Allen level! We aren’t any midtable anymore! So why keep midtable players! Free up the space and wages, Get some money back and Buy Top proven players. We need to jump from 3rd to 1st.
Can someone tell me why we signed Solanke? We don’t play with a CF. Why buy one? He can’t play in our system just like Origi and Sturridge ( doesn’t matter how good they are )

What do you see in Cabellos MK? Saw a couple games ( coz he doesn’t even get inot their first eleven ) I saw a player similar to Lallana. All show offs and nothing more! Oh yes he starts from deep. Did he do well against the Levente and the relegation fodder? lol that’s not good enough to play in the PL.

We should be targeting players who are above 25.

Jorginho ( Coz he could pass a thread through the needle with absolute ease ) None in the PL would come even close on what he does! His range of passing is just Wow! 85% of the goals scored by Insigne - Mertens - Callegon have come from his passes!

Allan ( What we expected one day Wijnaldum would become )

Kovacic ( He needs chances and only chances, He is inside top 5 dribblers in the league, excellent close control in tight spaces, work like a donkey on the pitch with brilliant range of passing)

Leon Bailey ( What a season, its turning for him. What a winger, He would bench Sadie Mane at Liverpool )

Werner ( There is your answer to Firmino )

I don’t think we could afford all those! But these are the players that could help us to win the PL title.

10.) 21 Mar 2018 10:38:21
Lol trust you to bring up Kovacic Harry haha! - I agree with most of your post but I believe Cabellos could be a decent addition, just because he doesn't get into the starting 11 doesn't mean he's not good enough. Assensio isn't getting the game time he deserves either and look how incredible the lad is.

11.) 21 Mar 2018 10:56:27
Haha harry and kovacic love continue.
i am pretty sure we won't get any of the players you listed. but its a great wishlist.

12.) 21 Mar 2018 11:37:17
I know Lemar is seemingly off the radar at the moment, but everyone thought VVD was a lost cause too. We wouldn't need to be scouting Lemar because the fans have seen enough to suggest signing him already. I've just got a hunch it will happen.

I still Don't know why you include 19/ 20 year old Solanke in that list Harry. He is a young player who needs supporting and game time. A Premier League loan move might be a good idea? It has helped Abraham to develop. You can't disregard a player who was nominated as one of the top 25 young players in Europe, as "Joe Allen level".

As for Milner, I agree. I would sell him personally. However Klopp likes him a lot. He must be close to the most appearances under Klopp? When he doesn't start he is usually the go to substitute. I think he will want to leave for regular football. Just no guarantee Klopp will want him out the door.

I Don't really understand your issues with Ceballos. He was caught in a tug of war match between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Unfortunately Zidane doesn't seem to rate him, and he has seemingly burned his bridges with Barcelona by turning them down initially. He is still only 22 I think, and has a lot of class and composure. He is also a hard working player which is a minimum requirement in Klopp's system. He does need to add more end product to his game, but that is where Klopp and his coaches come in.

Jorginho is a pipe dream mate. Just because we have watched him doesn't mean he is a likely signing. He has said he wants to stay at Napoli and even if he didn't Napoli are unreasonable at times. Allan is of no interest and also plays for Napoli.

Kovacic is another player who is of no interest. You suggesting him also proves the hypocrisy in your argument. You say we shouldn't sign Ceballos because he cannot get in Real Madrids starting XI, and then put forward an alternative option in Kovacic who has failed to cement a place in the side over a fair longer period of time.

Bailey would certainly not bench Mane. Mane is a far superior player currently, and they are very different. Bailey is far more like Salah, than he is like Mane. Mane presses better, and is far more creative. He'd be good competition though.

Werner is a solid striker and another who would be good competition. I'm not sure what answer you think he is to Firmino? I wasn't aware of any question marks regarding Firmino. Some still regard him as our best player.

All your suggestions are good players mate, and the only things I really disagree on is Bailey being better than Mane, Ceballos being a bad player, and Solanke being a bad player. I just think you are getting a touch hung up on your personal favourites coming to Liverpool, and it is causing you to dismiss alternative options out of hand.

13.) 21 Mar 2018 11:47:56
This is how I see it. So we will have Ox, Hendo and Naby as starters next season.
Wihnaldum will rotate. Maybe Ejaria or Grujic could come back. Ejaria seems closer to be honest.
If Milner and Lallana go then I think they need replacing.

14.) 21 Mar 2018 12:13:06
The scouts have already seen enough*

No idea why I wrote fans 😂.

15.) 21 Mar 2018 12:21:48
Salah

Madrid could afford, we simply couldn’t and shouldn’t. Stop buying players who doesn’t get into our starting eleven even when someone is injured. We have done that mistakes enough in the past why we always end up discussing about Lallana’s and Milner’s.
Madrid might buy Neymar and bench him! Let’s not compare that logic.
Target players who will push our current first eleven. Simple math to improve the squad!

Cabellos is simply a myth that is fooling people just like Grujic! Not good enough! It’s as simple as that! He need regular game why he is insisting for a move, Sorry we aren’t training ground for those! He wouldn’t lace the boots of Jorginho!

After two consecutive CL appearnences we should be talking about top 3 players!

If you have no choices then give youngsters a chance!

16.) 21 Mar 2018 13:09:07
Bailey would bench Mane? Come on this absolute love of every single player who isn't ours is getting embarrassing now, at what point do we just call trolling trolling and be done with it?

17.) 21 Mar 2018 15:59:45
Ron I thought we are trying to challenge for the title? The midfield you mention won't even get top 4 next season. We need to aim a lot higher.

18.) 21 Mar 2018 20:24:13
Spot on, MK. Bailey (who I rate) to bench Mane? Typical "he must be better cos he does not play for LFC" syndrome that has engulfed many on this forum Bailey is not in Mane's league (he will have to do a LOT to be anywhere near Manes competition, MK), end of story. Also, mentioning random names like Kovacic (seems that man crush is still on from 2014) Allan or Callejon of Napoli is just tedious stuff to read as we are interested in none of them. And Werner the answer to Firmino? Now, that just takes the biscuit.

Does that statement take into account that Werner (who I watch a lot with RBL this season) is now a bench warmer at RBL? He is a good player BUT a Bobbie is NOT. Bobbie is THE glue that holds our system together, something Werner is not even tho, they play a version of the high press that resembles ours in many respects. The random names from random clubs is just tiresome, at this point.

IF and i don't really believe in it but IF we manage to sign Lemar, VVD, OX and keep Coutinho im expecting at least one title this year. I really rate Klopp and know him since he coached Mainz but if your spending this big you should get something out of it.

With the players named we have a squad that is as good as Utd, Chelsea and City and we can't hide behind the excuse from last year that our team is the weekest out of the top 6.

Baku's preferred position is RB but he can also play RW and CM. Looks to me like a (with further development) Milner-type of player.

There has been a lot of rumours of him leaving Wolfsburg in the past but i don't really see him coming to Liverpool. For what i have heard, he is more like to be Leipzig bound.

According to german media (Bild Sport) Liverpool made contact with his management this week. Could possibly also include his father as its reported that he is the one overseeing Gravenberchs carrer.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have already been reported once for contacting the family of players this season - it is illegal. They need to learn their lesson. Why can the club not act responsibly?}

Reports suggest his wage demants are at 20mio a year. don't think we have that kind of money to pay for a CB.

It won't be for Hervertz. Brandt has a release clause this summer of 25 mio € so its more likely to be him.

If i remember correctly Leverkusen want around 100 mio for Havertz and according to reports hell end up at Bayern in 2020.

Good pace, good skills, not the best finishing and has problems keeping his cool. He gets carded for stupid challenges too much.

He was one the most exciting players last year in the Bundesliga for me and was a crucial part of Frankfurts success (Won the dfb cup against bayern and scored a goal as well) .

He would be a decent addition as a back up for 20-25mil (which is reportedly his asking price) .

I played in the youth Bundesliga and for a Bundesliga reserve team but no connections Liverpool related.

Im normally just posting stuff when it’s Bundesliga related as i just know where to look for reliable infos and British media get stuff wrong when it comes do Bundesliga players most of the time. :D.

Just to bring a bit more heat in your story. ;)

Rummenigge said that they will listen to offers [. ] especially the midfield is very crowded.

MK - Neuer isn't world class anymore. There are a lot of people here in germany that think he is overrated and if it weren't for the bayern defence (which is basically the germany defence) he would look far worse. Even Ullreich looked decent this year and he is on par with Karius.

Courtois wants to back to Madrid because his family still lives there. Its not just spain, its madrid (either clubs) he wants to go to.

He isn't a bad keeper by any means but isn't world class either. a good buy for 25mil € but not really an upgrade to Karius.
