Sky Sports saying that they have looked into the Mahrez story and have been told (suggested by sources at the club? ) that Liverpool are not interested in Mahrez, there has been no contact between Liverpool and Leicester and that Leicester would want more than the c£50m reported for him.

It goes on to say that we are looking for an attacking midfielder this window, just not Mahrez.

Maybe laying that story to rest for now?

Still interested if we can find someone to inject some magic who is no CL cup tied.

1.) 07 Jan 2018 03:28:45
Or maybe they (Sky News) read what Ed002 has been saying all along?

2.) 07 Jan 2018 04:51:58
If we went for Mahrez he wouldn't be cheap at all. I think his contract runs until 2020 and Leicester turned down some big bids from Roma in the summer.

I hope the club has a clear plan of who they are going for to replace Pipco. It would be unforgivable if they sold him without a contingency plan in place.

Red Sandman.

3.) 07 Jan 2018 07:28:11
More like sky started the rumours for people to put bets on.

4.) 07 Jan 2018 08:04:39
What has ed2 been saying Noski?

5.) 07 Jan 2018 09:01:57
I think it was RTFP.

6.) 07 Jan 2018 09:23:19
Lol, I like the fact that sky sports have looked into the story and said it’s all made up! Maybe they should do likewise with their own breaking stories before worrying about what others have said!

7.) 07 Jan 2018 10:09:26
So the long goodbye is over,
He’s got his transfer and we’ve got a very good price,
Yes I was not a big fan of his, when push come to shove he went missing in
Far too many games, mainly CUP FINALS, if it’s presumes your ‘WORLD CLASS’
You can’t go missing in big games, you should be making the difference, he probably
Thinks he’s better than he is. also if LFC want to stop all there presumed best players being cherry picked by the big teams they need to start competing and winning trophies, if FSG can’t do it they need to step for aside for somebody with deeper pockets and more ambition, but first and foremost we need to be competing and WINNING trophies or this scenario will happen again with SALAH, MANE etc.

8.) 07 Jan 2018 11:36:22
Good point Deano, they've hit their bets target so can now quash the story 😉😂.

9.) 07 Jan 2018 17:11:50
Exactly Sandman, all the people suggesting he would be a cheap alternative are deluded. Leicester will ask more from us than Roma etc because we’re in the same league and have just got a massive fee for Couts.

10.) 07 Jan 2018 17:30:08
U mean like the way we said Coutinho is not for sale? Good news then.

Anyone know about the Ings rumours? Apparently teams (lower EPL and high Championship) are looking to take Ings on loan in January.

What is his current injury situation? According to Physio Room he's not injured, so I'm guessing he's trying to play his way back to match fitness in the U23s?

Is the club looking for a loan for him in the second part of the season to help with match fitness for 2018/ 19, or is he no longer seen as part of first team plans?

Any info would be very welcome as I really rate Danny and feel so sorry for the lad with his terrible luck with injuries at really bad times!

Zeddicus

1.) 26 Oct 2017 19:04:01
He probably needs a loan away to play some first team football, he’s barely played for 2 seasons due to injury. Look at how long it took Radamel Falcao to get back to form following a similar injury.

2.) 26 Oct 2017 19:11:35
I really like the player so if he goes I hope he has a brilliant second half of season and gets in good condition for next season.

3.) 26 Oct 2017 20:21:05
Would do well at Norwich with a brilliant little player like Maddison behind him.

4.) 26 Oct 2017 23:28:21
Lower EPL? Everton are desperate for a striker and he wouldn't even have to move house ;)

18 Jul 2017 23:08:42
I understand Kevin Stewart is set to sign for Hull, not sure if on loan or permanent.

Could be part of Robertson deal?

Source is just an American golfer I met playing an online golf game who is a massive Hull fan! So definitely not ITK but an old fashioned rumour!

Anyone know anything about this?

Zeddicus

1.) 18 Jul 2017 23:44:12
Hahaha Zed, that's a first mate lol.

2.) 18 Jul 2017 23:47:53
Was your source Donald Trump? If so, he is a terrible liar.

3.) 19 Jul 2017 07:50:29
Surely tiger isn't a fan of the tigers?

4.) 19 Jul 2017 08:02:33
Seems to be true. Paul Joyce said the same on twitter. Fee rising to 8 million pounds APPARENTLY. Seems like a good deal to me if it's true.

5.) 19 Jul 2017 08:32:20
Good move for Stewart considering he will be first choice at Hull. However if the lad had wanted to stay, I would have kept him to provide cover for Hendo and Can if he was willing to be a squad player.

6.) 19 Jul 2017 09:30:03
IB, I'm with Harry that if this goes through, Keita is coming to us.

With a suspected first choice midfield 3 of Hendo/ Navy Keith then Couts, we already have Can as backup, as well as Milner and Grujic. TAA can also play there as can others from the u23s.

It may also mean that the Ox is coming, but even without him we have plenty of cover.

If it has helped sweeten the Robertson deal, all the better as we have very little cover at LB!

I would rather give Grujic, for example, more chances as I believe he has much better potential than Kevin Stewart, who imo was very solid when he came in, but nothing special.

7.) 19 Jul 2017 09:31:27
Good move for him, not good enough for a team wanting to challenge for cups and titles. At 23 you should be established, not making 10 apps a season.

8.) 19 Jul 2017 10:47:58
Zeddicus, Stewart's a CDM while Keita plays further up the pitch. Signing keita was never going to hamper Stewart's role in the team, it is Can that was in his way.

9.) 19 Jul 2017 11:21:45
IB, only if Klopp wants to cover off every possible midfield role, which is unlikely as his teams will play certain ways. If it was Rafa, I'd have no doubt that a CDM leaving would be replaced by a CDM arriving, as that's the way he played.

I'm looking at our midfield positions as a whole:

Playing 4-3-3, the front 3 are likely to be Salah and Mane with Firmino through the middle. Alternatives to the front 3 include Studge, Origi, Ings. Solanke. I'd be interested to see where the width comes from if/ when Mane and Salah are unavailable as we seem to be selling Markovic, and giving loan moves to Ojo and Kent?

The middle 3 will likely be a first choice of Hendo, Keita (or alternative that we haven't heard about yet? ) and Couts. Alternatives will therefore be Grujic, Can, Wiji, Lallana, Milner, TAA, possibly Ox?

If we are playing a 4-4-2 diamond as we did at the end of 2016-17, then I'd expect Hendo or Keita at the base, Mane and Salah providing width and Couts at the apex, with 2 out of our 5 striking options up front.

Hi Eds,

The Echo (I know! ) has reported we have received a number of enquiries for Sakho. Other than Crystal Palace, which other clubs have made enquiries, that you are aware of?

Thanks

Z.

Zeddicus

{Ed002's Note - Stoke certainly are interested and his agent spoke with many other sides including Spurs and Lille.}

1.) 08 Jul 2017 19:46:29
Liver_La, I think that's just a load of gentlemans ear muffs from the echo.

2.) 08 Jul 2017 20:35:17
Thanks Ed002. Much as I disagree with his attitude, I still rate him as a player, so hope he gets sold overseas rather than risk a MoM performance against us!

3.) 09 Jul 2017 08:07:20
Terrible player. No idea where this supposed 30 mil price tag has come from.

A player we should want to go up against in the prem. Our attackers would run rings around him.

07 Jul 2017 09:50:54
Question for Ed002, hopefully to put the Keita 'release clause' (or whatever it is called) to be.

Been reported widely that Keita can leave for £48m next summer. Some of the posters here have taken that to mean 'lets leave him this season and buy him next season for £48m'.

However, Ed002, I'm sure you said that the relevant clause is nothing to do with Liverpool.

Does that mean its only relevant to certain clubs i. e. German clubs only, or Bayern Munich only etc?

Like I said, trying to stop people barking up the wrong tree with this one, as many seem to think we can save money and waltz in next year and get the player.

Thanks

Z.

Zeddicus

{Ed002's Note - If it is a "release clause" it can only be enacted by a club in the same legal jurisdiction that the contract was written in. People still use the term "buy out" clauses which are clearly very rare.

Perhaps a reminder about transfer related clauses would be apt. This is a horribly complex area not least because they are written under individual national laws. They cause a great deal of misunderstanding with football supporters and the media alike.

The "buy out" clause is legally binding between a club and a player. The "buy out" is effectively what it says - a means for the player to buy himself out of the contract. As an example, if a player wishes to buy himself out of a contract, he pays the applicable FA (on behalf of the club) the amount of the "buy out" clause effectively becoming a free agent. The problem is that in most cases a player would need to obtain that money from the buying club - and this is fraught with issues regarding "tapping up" and, of course, taxation (as it can be seen as income for the player and would therefore be subject to income tax). There was a test case about the taxation issue in Spain about four years ago. So "buy out" clauses are very rare.

A "release clause" is far more common in that it gives a figure that the club would accept for the sale of a player to another club - but it is not legally binding except where both parties are in the same country (for the sake of argument I should say that Spain and Portugal count as the same country as do England and Wales) for legal purposes. These are normally unreasonably high figures (Messi at Barcelona for example) introduced to act as a deterrent for hostile bids - and even then the club could easily block a move. However, if a club does agree to match a release clause then the selling club would be obliged to ask the player if he is interested - there is no obligation on the player to make a move. For interested clubs outside of the country the selling club may use it as a guide but are under obligation to accept a bid.

There is then the becoming popular "termination clause" which is binding between the player and the club and if met would see an offer from anywhere accepted and the player given the opportunity to make a call on a move. This overcomes the issues associated with "buy out" clauses as the money would be paid by one club to another.}

1.) 07 Jul 2017 12:42:08
Thanks for taking the time to write such a comprehensive summary, really helps me with understanding the various options.

So, if as reported, Keita has a "release clause" then its irrelevant to us buying him next year, except as a guide for the price. As we are not a German club, we could offer the amount of the "release clause" (say £48m for arguments sake as that's what's been reported) and RBL could still say no. However, a German club (Bayern, for instance) could offer the £48m and, as long as Keita is amenable to the move, RBL would HAVE to sell him for that amount.

As its a release clause being reported, rather than a termination clause, then we have no better chance of getting RBL to agree to sell Keita next year than this year.

{Ed002's Note - If he has a release clause, in broad terms yes. However, it certainly would not be in Pounds nor would any offer from Liverpool.

RBL met with an English side over another player yesterday and I understand that the first thing they stressed was that the club should not contact the player in any way or form - they haven't - but they were adamant that they should get their point across.

I suspect the Keita issue will drag on.}

2.) 07 Jul 2017 12:46:53
good and interesting reading that ed002 thanks for you input
Up the pool.

3.) 07 Jul 2017 13:02:37
Nice one Ed's. That clears up a lot of confusion.

4.) 07 Jul 2017 13:13:17
I am copying your Reply Ed02 and should be pasting into various groups ( with your consent ) as people around the globe are throwing random speculations on these clauses!

5.) 07 Jul 2017 14:06:24
Eds are you with me in thinking that Liverpool are wasting there time chasing Keita when you have made it clear they have no thoughts on selling him what so ever. You just said it will likely drag on and on so I don't see why we are wasting our time when we could be chasing a differant player?

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing to stop them putting abid in - but if they are keen an embarrisingly low one would likely be shrugged at. They could persist and perhaps be reported to FIFA?}

6.) 07 Jul 2017 14:11:49
Hi Ed, are RBL open to selling that other player to the other English club, or is it another case of show me a eye watering offer and we will consider? Just thinking that if they do that would probably be even less likely that they would part with many more (if any)?

{Ed002's Note - Perhps but it is unrelated.}

7.) 07 Jul 2017 14:32:13
Responses like that is what makes this site so great thanks ed.

8.) 07 Jul 2017 14:52:39
Utterly superb and comprehensive response ed. Thank you.

9.) 07 Jul 2017 16:13:06
Cheers for reply ed. Knowing most of our bids for other players it will be embarrasingly low. Walk away I say.

10.) 07 Jul 2017 16:45:04
Just read back what you said ed. If we persist we could be reported to FIFA! what a shambles. Am I alone in thinking we need to walk away, why waste so much time on a player they won't sell. Ridiculous beyond words!

11.) 07 Jul 2017 22:51:45
Eds, brilliant explanation thanks . but what exactly is the point of a release clause? If the club doesn't want to sell then why would they include one? I understand if it's used as a deterrent but we see time and time again that clubs including LFC go in with bids under that anyway.

12.) 07 Jul 2017 21:22:58
Your a genius ed2.

No idea where this post will go, Eds, but I've just read one of the messages on the Just Giving page from a chap called MELVYN HERBERT. He mentions that he's had CLL lukaemia for a while. My dad has had it for 25-30 years and, if he's interested, I'd like to make contact with him. My mum and dad have researched a lot on what helps and hinders CLL and I'd be happy to share their findings with Melvyn if they are any help to him managing the disease.

Thanks Benny, there's so many lifestyle changes that can help manage so many diseases or conditions. Loved reading the vegan chat yesterday!

09 Jan 2018 08:48:16
Perhaps the reason we have kept hold of Migs is that he is a secret playmaker and has just been waiting for Couts to leave before Klopp moves him to the No 10 position?

Stranger things have happened.

Not many, mind.

1.) 09 Jan 2018 09:37:18
Or maybe Karius and Ward aren't good enough.

08 Jan 2018 16:58:55
A question mainly for the Eds here.

You guys have been running this site (and its predecessor) for 15 years + now, and have no doubt been involved in the game for longer than that.

Of all of the now bountiful media outlets, which ones have consistently been most reliable when it comes to suggesting transfers about to happen, and which are the worst?

I could have an relatively accurate stab at the worst, but would rather hear your views!

Also, if you have any examples of the best or worst transfers reported as 'done' over the years, that would be good for a laugh too!

Thought it might break the cycle of "what about x, y or z" (although I hear 'z' is very close to a move and would solve all of our problems! )

Zeddicus

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea. I obviously have no dealings with any of the media outlets but clubs do build relationships with certain journalists and that will vary club-by-club. For many regional clubs the local press might be the best shot. The nationals will often simply duplicate stories found elsewhere, and many of the mainland European sports papers are simply trading idle gossip. Papers in some countries will always link the wealthy English sides. The press agencies like The AP and others will tend to deal only in fact and avoid all conjecture. I am afraid I am not the best to ask about what is being reported.}

1.) 08 Jan 2018 17:10:00
No problem, Ed002, thanks for the answer, some great nuggets there. If Ed001's around, I'd love his view too :)

{Ed001's Note - I honestly can't think of any good media outlets any more. You need to more look at individual writers I think, and that would be beyond me as doing these sites gives me very little time to read anyone else's on a regular basis.

Most people seem to rely on SSN but they report such 'gems' as Babel flying around London on deadline day, which was total nonsense and even Babel makes jokes about the 'Babelcopter' on deadline days. Sadly the media has turned into a parody of itself.}

2.) 08 Jan 2018 17:21:26
Thanks for that as well Ed001. Although its nice to get the nibbles from the likes of the tabloid press (here and abroad - nice chance to test Google Translate, when reading the Express! ), Sly or BBC seem the least prone to gaffs on reporting, although, as well as the Babel-copter, BBC reported a done deal for VVD in the summer!

{Ed001's Note - I least trust Sly personally, they are the worst of the lot and seem to only exist now to stir up a betting market for Slybet.}

3.) 08 Jan 2018 18:04:25
This is why I no longer buy a newspaper or read them kind of websites, the majority of stuff is made up just to get views/ paper buys.

4.) 08 Jan 2018 18:56:20
This is why I no longer care for the media and their pathetic pundits who push an agenda.

07 Jan 2018 18:22:39
Wow, nice 3rd round of the cup, a few upsets which is always nice (as long as it's not us! ) .

Newport beat Leeds.

Coventry beat Stoke (not that long ago that Stoke beating Coventry would've been an upset! ) .

Forest beat Arsenal.

And the biggest upset of all, Everton scored a goal!

2.) 07 Jan 2018 19:13:44
the third round is always a banana skin job, would not be surprised is the FA gave us a tough one in the fourth round .

3.) 07 Jan 2018 19:34:36
Yeah they hate us the FA 😡.

4.) 07 Jan 2018 19:50:35
Love the last part there, Zed. Everton scoring a goal at Anfield is about all they can aim for now as clearly, scoring two goals is out of this world and them winning at Anfield, no longer factors into the equation so they don't even aim for that anymore.

07 Jan 2018 00:11:13
Just a hunch (no itk or anything like that) but I have a suspicion we may see Julian Brandt joining before the end of the window. Of the linked names, at the right quality according to most, he's one who is eligible to play in the CL knockout phases, and we know that Klopp is a fan. He could also be a Salah replacement (as Ed002 would point out 😂) if he were to be attracted by Real Madrid in the future.

Anyone share this feeling, or is it just a dodgy kabab that's causing it?! 😭.

Totally agree with you Les. I still rate him very, very highly and think that him, with Keita and Ox in midfield could be moulded by Klopp into a great midfield. Reminds me so much of Gerrard.

Such a shame we will likely never get him as Levy will demand a price far beyond what his (albeit currently mis-managed) performances suggest. I doubt we will ever get a player from Spurs as Levy is always pricing them for the super-rich clubs, and fair play to him, he's doing best by his club. Only chance with Spurs players, imo, would be to get them cheaper than market value in the last few months of a contract (or at the end) like Aldereweild, for example!

To be fair, Shreyan, Hicks and Gillett, sheisters thou they undeniably are, didn't take over the club until 2007.

David Moores is the one you want to look at for not building on 2005. He was only interested in extracting the maximum value for himself from any potential sale.

For me, Johncrow, there are a few disappointments.

The biggest one was the 1988 FA Cup Final. To think that we were 2 goals away from being the first team to do the double in 3/ 4 seasons (still can't stand Michael Thomas either! ) is just maddening!

The first final I watched was Hysel, and that was sad in a whole different way : (

Finally, the biggest swings of emotion in a cup final, well that's jointly held by FA Cup 86, FA Cup 06 and Instanbul! The latter two will be well covered by others, but in 86, I was 10, and SOOO cross with Brucie for letting in Linekar's shot that I started stabbing his Panini sticker with a pin! Alls well that ends well, though!

Playing well tends to change peoples opinions of a player, Razor. Klavan played well as mentioned above which made us appreciate him. Kinda like Lucas and Hendo to name a couple of other recent examples (not saying Klavan is in that class, but you get my point? ) .

One player I never changed my opinion on was El Hadj Diouf. I still think the same about him now as when I first saw him in a Liverpool shirt.

He may struggle with movement off the ball (and on the ball for that matter) given he sadly passed away 8 months ago.

Even if he was alive, his filming commitments for Family Guy would've compromised his availability for training and matches.
