Barca apparently also interested in Migs for around £12.5m according to Sly.

To replace Cillessen, who's heading out.

Besiktas still also interested.

Will be enlightening to see if Migs wants game time or bench trophies.

1.) 01 Aug 2018 01:57:53
Why does it have to be those options? I think its sad how we try to analyze athletes decisions these days.

2.) 01 Aug 2018 06:15:37
No one else seems to be in for Mignolet as a first choice. So I guess if he's going to No 2 somewhere, Barcelona is probably not a bad place to go - almost certain trophies, nice place to live, being reunited with ex-Liverpool teammates :-), etc.

3.) 01 Aug 2018 06:33:14
He will also get game time at Barcelona, he will play all the Copa Del Rey games and maybe even the champions league games. And as you say more than likely win trophies and live in a fantastic city. He won’t even make our bench next season so let’s just be happy for the guy and hope the move happens.

4.) 01 Aug 2018 07:16:12
Zed, not a huge fan of what you're implying there. Going to Barcelona, even as a back up, is a big deal and something to be proud of.

5.) 01 Aug 2018 07:24:38
I completely get where axed is coming from here guys. Word is that Migs wants out of lfc due to not being no1 - so how would going to Barcelona solve that?

And Putney it’s says a lot of a career highlight would be barely playing (if at all) for Barca.

He’s good enough to play for a mid table/ just below prem team. He’ll get good wages and actually play.

6.) 01 Aug 2018 07:34:13
Agreed 87.

7.) 01 Aug 2018 08:36:00
Just to clarify, Barcelona are a great team, but as 87 said, if Karius leaves, which I suspect he will, then Migs would be swapping our bench for Barca’s. Doesn’t make much sense.

He is good enough for other teams, especially more defensive ones, so if his complaint is lack of playing time, surely you’d expect to see him join one of those, either here or overseas, rather than warming Barca’s bench and getting the odd run out.

8.) 01 Aug 2018 08:37:30
Amazing how no one has mentioned money. Maybe he will get a big signing on fee and whopping weekly wages guaranteed for four or five years.

This could set him up for life to live in one of the most fantastic cities in the world. Doesn’t sound that bad to me. And maybe he’s happy to be second fiddle to achieve this.

Good luck to him - wish I had that type of luck!

9.) 01 Aug 2018 08:52:46
If he was going to a standard team to sit on the bench i would question it, but it IS Barcelona, not many people get the chance to play for them, so i wouldn't criticise him for going there.

10.) 01 Aug 2018 09:05:45
I think you’re all missing the point. It’s up to Mignolet where he chooses to go. If he decides to go to Barcelona that’s up to him and all you’re doing is second guessing his reasons why. He’ll have his own reason for going to the team he does (if he does leave), there’s no way we can know for sure what they are.

11.) 01 Aug 2018 09:08:19
I’m not criticising him if he goes to Barca. Just pointing out it’s contrary to his apparent unhappiness of being a bench player.

12.) 01 Aug 2018 09:28:07
I'm with 87Red here, also not criticising, but does appear odd if his aim is 1st team starts.

13.) 01 Aug 2018 13:26:55
I think ya'll are playing a bit to much couch psychologist. If you have a chance to go to Barca, then go. It's ok to change your mind when you have new information.

14.) 01 Aug 2018 14:07:55
Have to say, the abuse and lack of respect reserved for our keepers is the one thing that has made me uncomfortable about being a Liverpool supporter over the last few years.

The (Kop lead) jeering and ironic cheers that could be heard in Anfield when both Karius and Migs were struggling was nothing short of shameful. I hope to God that Alisson doesn't start off poorly for us because the pressure we put our own keepers under will only end up one way.

I wish Migs all the best wherever he goes. Like every other Red who wore the jersey with honesty and sincerity, I hope he only gets better and regains the form that made us buy him in the first place.

15.) 01 Aug 2018 17:27:08
If I was Mignolet I’d go to Barca. Might not play as much, but medals make up for that. Plus with the political situation in Turkey it’s hardly the safest place in the world.

16.) 01 Aug 2018 22:29:58
Dudek did the same at Madrid. Had a decent career for them playing second fiddle. No shame in it imho.

17.) 02 Aug 2018 10:00:27
The other thing you have to remember is that there’s the chance of playing alongside some of the best players in the world and in Messi one of the greatest players to have graced the game, who would not want an opportunity for that. Also maybe the Barcelona fans might not give him grief constantly and with a different goalkeeping coach he may actually improve. Most Liverpool fans don’t want him at the club then bitch and moan when it looks like a move may happen. Best of luck to him I say.

Sheyi Ojo is linked with moves to either Nottingham Forest or Reading, according to The Echo. Forest apparently interested in a £10m purchase, Reading interested in a loan.

The source of the story (Googling it and looking for the oldest news article) seems to be The S*n so not sure on accuracy. For obvious reasons, I didn't click through to the original story.

Chiravella also appears to be linked with Forest, although The Echo says they are unlikely to move now they have Colback on loan again for the season.

Both of them are 21, both have been highly thought of, and both are of an age where they should be getting starts in the first team (at least for cup games) if they have a longer term future at the club.

I wonder if other, younger, players have overtaken them in the pecking order and therefore a move (even permanent) is probably best for their careers?

1.) 25 Jul 2018 09:53:53
Yeah Chirivella in particular is never realistically gong to break into the team, so may as well get him a good move and a few bob for our troubles. I like Ojo as a player and think he's got potential but needs to find consistency and won't get the game time at Liverpool. Really now with Shaqiri there is little room for Ojo, especially considering we've got Camacho and Adekanye coming through and of course Wilson out on loan. I'd take 10 million pounds for Ojo in a heartbeat. Pity I don't own him, though.

2.) 25 Jul 2018 12:16:02
I’d snap their hands off for 10m.

3.) 25 Jul 2018 12:43:22
Annoying when you start reading a story and halfway through you see that rag is the original source.

I just instantly stop reading it and couldn't be bothered what the rest says.

4.) 25 Jul 2018 14:13:20
Agreed Irish I once saw a homeless man sitting on a copy of the sun, I immediately took it off him and binned it! Before I replaced it with the daily mirror.

5.) 25 Jul 2018 14:34:15
To be fair, Irish, I did try to reference it as soon as possible!

18 Jul 2018 16:06:51
Sky Italia (reported via Sky Sports) now saying the whole deal has been agreed with Alisson and Roma, including transfer fee/ payments, and a 5 year contract with Alisson.

He is due to fly to Liverpool in the next day or so for a medical which is the last O/ S thing.

Watch out for ACL twitches ;-)

Hailstones, this is going to happen, I suggest you tell your lady that you will be moving out!

1.) 18 Jul 2018 16:16:01
The two most dreaded words in the English language - Liverpool Medical!

2.) 18 Jul 2018 16:27:00
I'm getting Loic Remy flashbacks.

3.) 18 Jul 2018 16:27:17

4.) 18 Jul 2018 16:36:38
Hailstones remember. dibs😆.

5.) 18 Jul 2018 16:42:38
As hailstones originally offered his house and wife on my post I think it’s only fair I spend a week in it, (his wife I mean) 😉.

6.) 18 Jul 2018 17:24:25
1985mikey hats off to your comment👏👏.

7.) 18 Jul 2018 17:08:05
Not confirmed by club or the Ed’s so I would cool your engines.

8.) 18 Jul 2018 17:49:30
Turn on your telly bobby, about to jump on a plane to the Pool! No Ed confirmation needed. Now onto Nabil.

9.) 18 Jul 2018 17:49:57
I doubt there will be any problems from here on in. Medical and Bob is your uncle.

Like Ed002 said, not many clubs that are willing to agree on the fee we have for Alisson.

All roads lead to Anfield.

10.) 18 Jul 2018 17:52:35
Get a grip man only lfc know what's happening. Appears sky got this spot on.

11.) 18 Jul 2018 18:16:49
Can’t believe you went there Mikey haha.

12.) 18 Jul 2018 18:21:36
Hailstones I take it you have a pair of slippers rather than pack my own need the room in my bag for the gear your missus has requested, kinky girl.

13.) 18 Jul 2018 18:50:17
Hahahaha she is waiting at the front door with domanatrix gear on with the front door keys in her teeth lads, honest!

14.) 18 Jul 2018 18:53:16

Lmao hailstones xD
Now the 2nd house and mistress is up for grabs? Damn haha.

18 Jul 2018 11:09:16
Just reading on t'internet that, according to Matteo De Santis who works for La Stampa, a fee has been agreed between Liverpool and Roma for Mr Becker - €65m + €10m in bonuses - so pretty much the figure Roma wanted.

Its being reported on the Echo (sorry! ) site in their live stream of the day's activities.

1.) 18 Jul 2018 11:22:26
SKY Sources in Italy: The €75m deal of Alisson Becker to #LFC is near completion. [DiMarzio].

2.) 18 Jul 2018 11:50:29
Melissa Reddy confirming it.

3.) 18 Jul 2018 12:36:13
Fee has been agreed lads! Wow.

08 Jun 2018 17:56:41
Jon Flanagan, alongside Emre Can, confirmed as leaving this summer upon expiry of his contract.

On the one hand a shame, I remember having high hopes for the Scouse Cafu following is wonder goal!

On the other hand, what a seemingly horrible human being.

Nevertheless, thanks for the memories Jon and good luck.

1.) 08 Jun 2018 18:23:05
Just what went wrong with Flanagan? Few seasons ago he was dynamite. Gets an injury and never seen again.

2.) 08 Jun 2018 18:49:01
He beat a girl and was found guilty. Should have terminated his contract that very moment.

3.) 08 Jun 2018 19:01:33
That was a recent thing - he disappeared off the radar well before the incident.

4.) 08 Jun 2018 19:19:40
Injuries mainly, Salah. And less attacking than Klopp likes in his full backs. Plus the criminal thing more recently.

5.) 08 Jun 2018 19:25:12
Exactly my thoughts too Harry.

6.) 08 Jun 2018 20:32:52
He was lucky to come into the team when things got better, so he got all the hype. never was good enough. Hard work was the only thing he had, and that can only get you so far.

I caught an interesting and frustrating debate on 5Live last night just before the Everton-Watford game focusing on the Phil Foden news and whether its better for him to go on loan and gain more minutes or stay at City and train with superb players and coaches, but get less minutes.

Fantastic insights by guest Nedum Onouha who was in a similar situation in the early/ mid 00s when he made his debut for City aged 17.

What was frustrating was that one of the commentators was adamant that Foden should go on loan to get minutes, whereas Nedum and the other presenter were trying to put forward the balance of the experience Foden could gain learning from Silva and De Bruyne on the training field and also working under Guardiola day in day out.

For me, I really think it comes down to the players. Kane, for example, benefited from time on loan. Also, there's a real threat of burnout if kids play too much. I fear a little for Trent, although trust Klopp and his team to manage him correctly.

Look at people like Judas and God. Both had played over 50 competitive games at the highest level before the age of 20, and both suffered later in their careers with injuries. Flip side is someone like Milner. He's played 30+ games a season since 2003-04 when he was 17/ 18. Not really had significant injury absence.

I'd be interested in other views on both keep/ integrate (with less playing time) vs send on loan for more playing time, especially with regard to our emerging youngsters. And also does anyone else fear for burnout in our current first team youngsters like TAA and Joe? Remember, we've got another starlet in Brewster yet to come.

{Ed001's Note - burnout was not the issue with either God or Owen. It was lifestyle. They both spent too little time on their recovery after games, that is why they picked up injuries and those injuries are what cut short their career.}

1.) 11 Dec 2018 16:18:29
To be honest, you can try and make an educated guess at what is best for them, but it really is all down to the players themselves. If they do enough on the training pitch then they will get picked. If they take on board enough from their loans or from training with the first team, they will get picked. There are pro’s and cons to both. If you work hard enough for it you will get it. I mean look at Ibe; tipped for greatness, had the benefit of going out on loan and having a shot with the first team, and none of it got him anywhere. I do think Foden is a special case though, its hard to think of a more unsympathetic club to youth players, he needs to go to somewhere in mid-table and show what he can do i think.

2.) 11 Dec 2018 17:04:49
They need to play in matches against players who are more experienced. Look at Jayden Sancho - what an example that lad is 👍.

3.) 11 Dec 2018 17:49:58
Fair enough Ed001, didn't know that about them. I guess you just have to look towards CR7 (or indeed JM7!) to see players who have been playing at the highest level since their teens and yet still competing against and bettering kids into their 30s.

{Ed001's Note - I think Mane and Keita will be the same, when Keita joined Salzburg, Mane used to take him to the gym after training. Players who have longer careers tend to be like that, such as Milner, working harder than the rest.}

06 Dec 2018 07:58:56
One thing not to forget is that we have a 62 hour turnaround between 2 away games that are around 300 miles apart.

Much as I'd love to win at a canter on Saturday, Bournemouth are no pushovers and I'd be happy with any win - 0-1, 1-2 whatever.

I must admit I was shocked at the team selection and very worried when we went 1-0 down, but it makes sense now. We may not yet have the best squad (no prizes for guessing who has! ) but we have to trust them and Klopp to be able to grind out results and leave us still in the mix come January.

1.) 06 Dec 2018 08:01:57
My shout for best squad goes to. Arsenal. Sorry couldn't help myself.

2.) 06 Dec 2018 08:07:04
True Zed, I've been confident about most fixtures this season but there's something about Bournemouth and they do concern me, I believe we'll win but I, like you would be happy with a simple 1-0. Arsenal and Utd only just beat them by 2-1 last month, infact from what I had read both Utd and Arsenal were very lucky to get the wins. Bournemouth aren't a bad team and I'm hoping we can start with a stronger team on Saturday, get an early goal or two and put it to bed early on.

3.) 06 Dec 2018 08:14:13
😂😂 they must have a crap manager then Walter as the ‘best squad’ is some 10 points after the lead after 15 games!

4.) 06 Dec 2018 08:15:43
Your obsessed with them sure your not a fan.

5.) 06 Dec 2018 08:28:21
Dont know why you just don't support Arsenal then. Like I said the other day, I wouldn't swap a single player for one of theirs and I think you suggested Ozil, who hasn't been near their squad for the past 3 games for reasons unknown. Every one of your posts now is just putting the team down without being constructive as to why you feel that way - negative, and very boring.

6.) 06 Dec 2018 08:33:00
We can do that easily if u just score 3/ 4 salah!

7.) 06 Dec 2018 08:43:39
Can people seriously not tell that Walter was joking? Wow.

8.) 06 Dec 2018 09:53:17
I hope we get the job done as early as possible then we can kill the game and save some legs for napoli on tuesday.

9.) 06 Dec 2018 10:53:43
Well it walked like a joke, swam like a joke and quacked like a joke, but it was Walter who said it so who can be sure? I liked it anyway.

10.) 06 Dec 2018 13:15:31
How many times can you repeat the same joke, to the same people, before it's no longer a joke and becomes a pain in the gluteal muscles?

11.) 06 Dec 2018 13:43:33
I still get a kick out of it, I won't deny it. Plus, while Walter's been around, we've reached the CL final and kept up with City in the league. long may it continue!

12.) 06 Dec 2018 13:59:27
I thought klopp selection was genius. Burnley were all keyed up to batter salah, Bobby and mane but in stead had to deal with the subtle genius of sturridge and shaqiri. Who BTW is fast becoming one of my favourite players.

13.) 06 Dec 2018 19:21:15
Spot on, Robbiesline. You are one of the very few who picked that up. Klopp may have wanted to wear Burnley down with the pace, movement and physicality of Origi, Shaq, Studge and Keita in the first hour and then depending on how the game was panning out, he sends on Salah and Bobbie to tear them a new one cos they would be physically knackered. Can't say if this is what Klopp did BUT you can't rule it out.

{Ed002's Note - You are joking right?}

24 Nov 2018 18:47:12
Wowsers! Chelsea are getting a pasting!

1.) 24 Nov 2018 19:03:07
Someone better get in touch with Harry and make sure he’s OK with his team getting battered like this.

2.) 24 Nov 2018 19:09:01
Walter will have a stiffy over the thought of Arsenal catching them now 🤥.

3.) 24 Nov 2018 19:11:19
Chelsea have been embarrassing. Luiz is a liability.

4.) 24 Nov 2018 19:25:01
We beat Spurs, Spurs have beaten Chelsea. We now just need teams to step up and beat City.

5.) 24 Nov 2018 19:46:25
Actually I would ask those preferring Kepa over Alisson to have a good, close look at those 3 goals he let in today. It was said he hasn't been tested or been put under pressure. Well, it happened today.

6.) 24 Nov 2018 20:37:54
Arsenal i feel are going to start grinding out some results.

7.) 24 Nov 2018 21:05:22
Give it up Negative mate. There is no way Arsenal are finishing 2nd this season. They have improved but 2nd is way off for them.

8.) 24 Nov 2018 21:51:03
Eds2 with Harry doing really well in the jungle do you see him taking over from sarri if he doesn't make top four?

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure I understand.}

9.) 24 Nov 2018 22:07:01
When alli plays seems spurs do better, I also think son should start he's a great player, rather both were playing for us.

10.) 24 Nov 2018 22:16:20
ArAy1969, I have been saying that Kepa had not been tested nor put under pressure and we saw what he is like when that happens. That second goal beggars belief, really. What on earth was he doing or looking at?

As for Luiz, I always knew he was an accident waiting to happen and he has been making mistakes all season long BUT I guess, no one in the media cared to check in on them.

24 Nov 2018 18:46:12
Wish I'd had a flutter on 0-3 and Salah and Bobby to score, as I predicted at the start of the game! Only didn't pick TAA to score the 3rd (I thought Salah would get a brace) .

Oh well, looking forward to the watching the highlights later 👍

P. s. can't take all the credit for the prediction, I got a call from Mr Sturridge earlier 😂😂.

Lerchy, I think the issue with Ake (as shown in last week's game) is that he is more a midfielder than a defender. And we have plenty of those.

On the Robbo back up question, we have Juanma (21/ 22), Adam Lewis (19) and Tony Gallacher (19) who have all had good reviews over the last few months.

Are none of them ready to step up and provide some competition/ backup for Robbo, especially Juanma who has been talked about quite a bit since he joined 2 years ago? Would love to hear from the Eds or anyone who manages to get to Reserve games.

IMO it would make sense to take a cash deal for him in Jan, as at least that puts some money in the coffers.

If it’s just a loan, I’d rather keep him. Injury to Studge and he’s our next go to after Firmino. At least he had the experience.

Next season, I see Brewster challenging Studge’s place, but I don’t think he’s going to be fit and firing this season.

Firmane, its also got a lot to do with age. A lot of people on this site are in their early 30s, 20s or younger so in their time its been players like Torres, Suarez, maybe Owen and Fowler.

I'm in my 40s so although I din't get to see the best of Kenny (he was retiring/ taking up the player manager role when I started following) I still remember how fantastic Rush was! However, even for me in my dotage, the memories fade a bit over time!

I know some of the Eds were waxing lyrical about Elisha Scott vs Dixie Dean, but that's a little before my time!

Thanks for that Tris, from the parts of the game I saw, I can't disagree with anything. Interesting point on Robbo, his passing has improved so much that the bar has been raised considerably. His vision in seeing Firmino on the edge of the box for his header was brilliant. Most wing backs would've gone for the percentage ball into the middle, where there were 3 or so red shirts but also around 5-6 Napoli players, rather than spotting Bobby charging in and unmarked.

I really like your points system, so much simpler to follow and much better than the "6s all round with the odd 7" you see in the papers. I'll try the same for the Man Utd review and see if I can do it justice!

{Ed001's Note - I am sure you can. I have never liked the usual paper way of doing it because it always seems so arbitrary. Usually the reporters are so busy writing their match reports they are barely watching the game anyway, so it is guesswork.}

Just for Berg, the figures are cumulative.

Both teams who qualify for the final get €15m, the winner also gets €4m on top.
