Evening Gents

Seen a few posts about Liverpool being interested in Signing Gordon from Newcastle.

Safe to say.

It's not happening.

Interest in him has long gone.

Cheers.

Talk of Barca signing him now.

0

27 May 2026 18:54:05
That's some good news at least!

1

27 May 2026 19:10:00
Cheers Robbo, for some good news today.

Thank the gods!

Ben Jacobs reporting that Barca have agreed a deal with Newcastle and medical to be booked in...phew!

0

27 May 2026 19:27:47
Where did Barca get 70m from? Thought they were skint.

27 May 2026 18:10:17
Any interest in Bowen Ed's? Possibly not too dear and cover that forward position

Hi Carra, have you any updates please?

2

27 May 2026 16:46:10
I wish this wasn’t the case folks but only sharing what Matt Smith from TNT and LFC TV DMED me unprompted this lunchtime!

Only makes a modicum of sense if Slot, Edwards and Hughes are the fall guys to dismantle Klop’s legend and all leave together next summer if FSG wand the dream Enrique or more plausibly Naggelsman!?

I think Edwards’s ego burnt bridges for Alonso, ie head coach at Liverpool compared to manager at Chelsea! Alas we are where we are! At least we got Champions League!

1

27 May 2026 17:21:52
I'll gladly suffer Doctor Robotnik for another year if Enrique's essentially en route. Not for Nagelsmann.

7

27 May 2026 17:32:42
Better hope we end up with Enrique to make it worth the wasted year and a half it will cost us.

If Slot is staying then why wasn't he backed in January to save the season?

Now he's staying for a season, even though he won't be Liverpool manager next year, and no guarantee Enrique will come to us, and we could've got Alonso in.

Wasting a year and a half of lives over Edward's ego is incredible.

Shambles of a club from the very top.

11

27 May 2026 17:42:32
Edwards' power play has left him intoxicated. Maybe now he realises how essential a great manager is, instead of a yes man who turns into a no man.

Hughes and Slot are a pair of blaggers.

5

27 May 2026 17:45:39
I wasn't told about Enrique, Nagglesman or even Spanish Pep (fantasy football), but sticking with Slot for another year at most, only makes sense if FSG have someone big like Jurgen or Carlo were attainable when Rodgers left!

I am probably giving FSG too much credit, but it's a theory! Lol.

0

27 May 2026 17:42:31
Nagelsmann? No thanks. Weapons grade bellend him.

7

27 May 2026 17:51:30
Firstly, I think Enrique is happy where he is, and secondly, why would you want a manager who can have his head turned when he is successful and happy? Does not bode well, really, does it?

2

27 May 2026 17:51:33
I thought Edwards and Hughes were off this summer?

If that's the case, why are we waiting for Enrique?

We prob won't get CL football next season if Slot is still in charge.

4

27 May 2026 17:54:24
Pass on Nagelsmann.

2

27 May 2026 18:05:44
Enrique will not be joining LFC. "if" the club sticks with Slot, and it's still an if. It's not because Enrique is coming in a year. Don't do it yourselves.

4

27 May 2026 18:26:26
And what if Slot ends up winning the league or the CL... do we then still get rid for Enrique?

We didn't want an interim because "what if he does well, we can't be letting go of a manager who did well...", and here we are apparently waiting for the proverbial hen to come to roost in a year... whatever.

0

27 May 2026 18:29:45
Mid table in October fighting over Graham Potter with Nottingham Forest.

2

27 May 2026 18:33:11
Can't believe it - I'm agreeing with Florian!

We can all dream for Enrique - but don't fool yourselves into thinking this is part of some bigger plan from Hughes & Edwards.

What will they care next year when their contracts are up?

It does, unfortunately, seem Slot will be in the dugout next season - how long for? I guess that depends on the results.

1

27 May 2026 15:26:13
Hi all,

Do we know of any concrete interest in a holding midfielder? I've seen the Wharton rumour doing the rounds.

Cheers.

0

27 May 2026 16:00:53
Wharton isn't a holding midfielder, tbh, pal. He is not a ball winner/tackler, more of a playmaker.

5

27 May 2026 16:01:04
He's not a holding midfielder. He's a Mac replacement. The only thing Alexis is holding is his calf, prone on the grass like a rural tart.

12

27 May 2026 16:16:39
You asked for the news and you got the weather lol.

5

27 May 2026 16:18:47
We have a little issue in midfield. Grav and Dom are very good, and we will want them part of the group for the bones of the next decade. But neither is an elite ball winner, nor is a deep-lying playmaker/architect.

In a way, despite his OOP flaws, Wharton is what we need. But so is an Anderson, a Caciedo-type.

Wirtz has to be in the 10.

6

27 May 2026 16:32:19
If we are to believe the links, Wharton and L. Camara are the midfield duo we want.

M. Sangare seems to be an alternative to L. Camara.

Reports of Hughes in Monaco today. Are L. Camara and M. Akhilouche on the agenda perhaps?

4

27 May 2026 16:33:08
Like to see Ederson come in and play w Dom and Wirtz. Grav will be an expensive sub. I'd move one of him and Macca on, don't care which. If we could get Wharton and Ederson, I'd move them both on.

Wharton is tidy on the ball and can pass, but won't help our defensive issues. We need a proper 6 or we'll continue to struggle defensively.

1

27 May 2026 16:49:50
Ederson to Manu.

3

27 May 2026 16:50:21
FPF, I really hope so. That would be quite the double signing. Especially if we can still go and get Barcola or Diomande as well. I'm not daring to dream for another summer like the last one, though. It was so unlike us to throw over £400m about like pocket change.

2

27 May 2026 16:54:06
Grav has already shown he can be a more than capable CDM if he's told to sit there. The issue, as it has been all year, is that he isn't being told to.

7

27 May 2026 17:07:56
£200m odd net MK. 😆😉

0

27 May 2026 17:09:31
WW, Grav is a decent 6 and, for me, our poorest 8. Lazy, weak in the tackle and weak overall, especially for such a big unit. He ups his game physically and accepts he's a 6 or move him on.

1

27 May 2026 17:33:08
We need something as the midfield is full of gaps, and although the defence hasn't been the best, they've been left exposed all season. In fairness to Virgil, he must look at the new left and right back positions and shake his head. We're a two-man defence, but whether tactical or having the legs, the midfield have forgotten to help out properly.

1

27 May 2026 18:17:34
As I have said on here before, every single one of our midfielders is improved playing alongside a proper physical, mobile, defensive minded, holding midfielder.
Add to that our full back and centre halves. It is an absolute no trainer.
Team balance over everything else.

0

27 May 2026 18:20:41
Lid, Two man? Virgil and who else? 🤣🤣

1

27 May 2026 19:13:25
The Clid. There's nothing wrong with Kerkez or Bradley. Frimpong, yes.

1

27 May 2026 13:53:50.
Tinfoil hat on but my friend who is named after a Doctor Who actor has confirmed Arne Slot is staying next season subject to results! Feyenoord Assistant is joining!

He also said big summer ahead! I am not sure if he means it terms Slot, Hughes and Edwards or big spend! Hopefully both!

3

27 May 2026 14:44:58
Couldn't care less how much we spend if Slot is the manager.

23

27 May 2026 14:55:24
Subject to results? What results? Like, if he drops points across the pre-season tour of America, he's getting the sack?

Season's over. There are no more results to judge.

The "brain trust" has clearly decided to back the manager.

We've all got to accept it and find a way to get behind it.

Up The Reds.

8

27 May 2026 14:55:54
Understanding how pay offs work will help shed light on this situation.
1 full year left to go, or mid season after another set of failed promises, makes a difference on how much would have to be given out, although by then Iraola is out of reach, leaving Hoeness or Enrique.

5

27 May 2026 14:57:58
My guess is Sylvester McCoy or K9.

7

27 May 2026 15:07:07
With Slot in charge, we'd lose money on account of being out of all competitions by the new year. Just sack him now and get Iraola.

8

27 May 2026 15:21:50
Transfers won't matter if Slot stays, and I believe he will. FSG and Edwards did not attend the last match, and Slot did not have a post-season speech. It showed the board had already made the hard call, and they knew it was not welcomed among the fans. Plus, the decision of changing back room staff for Slot, just like Rogers 2.0.

That's why they are trying to avoid interaction, and will keep dragging until the new season starts. In the meanwhile, they will try winning the fans back by being active on transfers market with non-stop PR about wingers will solve Slot's team.

5

27 May 2026 15:22:26
@HisNameIsDiogo, As this news is subject to results, can I ask, is your friend actually Dr Who, and when you called him, was he sat in his Tardis 5 weeks into the season?

2

27 May 2026 15:27:31
I don't think manager pay offs are his entire wage until the end of the contract these days. They are mostly negotiated when the contract is first signed and have a set fee (ie they could be 6 months or a specific amount).

The amount may change depending on where the team sits in the league (let's say we were outside of the CL places or in the bottom 3).

4

27 May 2026 15:30:03
@RichieRed, Slot getting backed in terms of staff and players, so if there is not significant improvement, FSG will clean house, similar to Red Sox in May!

0

27 May 2026 15:37:14
@HisNameIsDiogo, So basically a repeat of the Rodgers situation then. Klopp was available back then - this time all the better candidates are available now, so should history continue to repeat itself & Slot is gone by October, I'm not sure where the club would turn for a viable candidate.

6

27 May 2026 15:37:37
Why back a manager who is not going to last? Whose vision is this, cause Slot has no style, and you can't buy style.

11

27 May 2026 17:13:38
"Arne Slot is staying next season subject to results."

I mean, is that not all managers pretty much every season?

5

27 May 2026 13:20:09
Joyce reporting we joined the race for Gordon.

Diddly out.

15

27 May 2026 13:54:09
Tanks for the info, but I hope not.

13

27 May 2026 14:05:38
I'd rather have Gordon Blank.

3

27 May 2026 14:09:18
I hope too.

0

27 May 2026 14:10:51
Too expensive, not good enough, we'd have to be clinically insane to deal with Newcastle after the Isak debacle.

13

27 May 2026 14:13:05
Rather have Noel Gordon... that'll put us at a crossroads.

8

27 May 2026 14:15:18
I hope someone ties our legs together. Not worth half the money quoted, would rather give Rio the minutes and get our English quota from the academy.

6

27 May 2026 14:16:46
Gordon is bang average at best.

5

27 May 2026 14:25:56
Warra quiff tho!

0

27 May 2026 14:57:51
Exactly the type of player we need in attack. He'll press, he'll run, he'll track back, he'll run in behind, he'll basically do what Diaz used to. And that's one key component of our attack that we've missed this season.

He might be bang average according to some, on the ball, fair. But off the ball, he's exactly what we need. And he already has a previous connection with Isak.
Ticks more boxes than not.

12

27 May 2026 14:59:21
Do you think Gordon goes into the hairdressers and asks for a Lady Di cut from the early 80s?

4

27 May 2026 15:04:39
Are we joining the race for Ederson as well?

0

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - is that to replace Alisson? ;-)

3

27 May 2026 15:22:58
We need British players, but not overpriced average ones.

2

27 May 2026 16:02:49
Just to clarify, Sadio, so as he works hard off the ball, this is ok and he gets a pass for being useless on the ball with zero end product?

1

27 May 2026 16:04:00
Hayley from Corrie with the Lady Di 1984 cut.

2

27 May 2026 16:08:29
Gordon would be quality for us. He can dribble, run in behind, press and track back. Would get his share of goals and assists too. As an added bonus, he knows Isak's game. All the babies who don't like Owen because he went to Man Utd won't accept Gordon because he played for Everton.

Grow up! As for Rio, if you think we can win the big trophies with him being a regular starter, they are deluded. Rio has got great potential, but he is not ready for that. He needs to compete for the place with a more experienced player.

2

27 May 2026 16:05:26
Think he might mean the Midfielder Eds.?

0

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - it was a joke.}

5

27 May 2026 16:59:50
With Slot in charge, Gordon from Thomas the Tank Engine would be more useful.

1

27 May 2026 17:15:36
I mean I'm all for it personally.

It will give Macca and Gordon two years to practice together before the 2028 Olympic synchronised diving.

Go for gold Reds.

2

27 May 2026 17:19:00
Be Kind, who said anything about giving anyone a free pass. Re-read what I actually wrote, and not what you think I wrote.

Question for you, would he have done any worse than our current first choice LW, Gakpo?

2

27 May 2026 17:24:22
Zero end product, yet scored the same as our own world class Ekitike this season.....
Yeah, he's not the best, but let's not just make up blanket statements to suit a narrative. Gordon is no Mane, but those days are gone. He has plenty of positives that this team could do with right now, not that I think it will happen regardless.

3

27 May 2026 17:35:39
It's always been on the cards - a gentleman's agreement so to speak. Boss signing, in my opinion, as we're lacking plums in that midfield and someone who isn't hesitant in putting the foot in.

1

27 May 2026 18:17:27
He'd probably be better than Macca in midfield Ed1.

We so desperately need MF enforcements.

0

27 May 2026 18:23:56
Fair enough Eds, sorry.went over my head.not for the first time!

0

27 May 2026 13:06:49
Hi all,

There is interest in Konate from Saudi Arabia. However, I am under the belief that he will sign a new deal in the coming weeks. Intermediaries handling the transition of a certain defensive arrival this summer have been led to believe that a deal is very close.

16

27 May 2026 13:51:22
Hope not, he's about as agile as an aircraft carrier!

8

27 May 2026 13:54:39
Tanks for the info.

4

27 May 2026 13:59:53
Really hope Saudi do us a favour once again!

4

27 May 2026 14:00:19
Cheers, Victor.

Not too fussed if Konate were to leave, to be honest. I'm more interested in this "certain defensive arrival". Are we talking centre-back or full-back? Is the player currently in England or abroad?

Blink once for centre-back, twice for full-back. Cough if he's already in England.

4

27 May 2026 14:13:00
RbeLFC, he's a donkey of a thing on a good day, could do something unhinged at any moment. He reminds me of that game Buckaroo.

5

27 May 2026 14:45:53
Buckaroo is the perfect description, Chewy. You've nailed it baby!

2

27 May 2026 14:59:35
@Alonso1786

The player is Jacquet!

1

27 May 2026 15:45:04
Everyone talking s*** on Konate, and I don't blame you, I have done it plenty myself, but I think there's a top player in him, he just lacks it a little mentally. I think proper competition for his place might just be what he needs to really lock in and take his game on to a much higher level.
At least I hope, anyway.

2

27 May 2026 16:03:23
And a steady RB alongside him, Cumber.

1

27 May 2026 16:06:12
He's now 26, not 22. The pity party is over.

1

27 May 2026 16:23:09
No, he lacks mentality! He's a liability, loves putting his arms around attackers and pulling em down! Let him go instead of giving him stupid money (which we are doing lately. 🤔). Not too worried about cb, got 🤞 2 as new cbs coming in, Kenny Jacquet and Leoni! Other areas need sorting first.

2

27 May 2026 17:41:20
Shankly, you don't get to call me 'baby' this early in the relationship, darling.

0

27 May 2026 08:21:22
Morning Gents.

Nothing can be ever 100% in terms of football transfers.

But.

Liverpool will sign Barcola this summer.

99.99%.

I've been told they're going all in on him.

Cheers.

56

27 May 2026 08:41:17
Cheers, Robbo.

0

27 May 2026 08:42:02
I'm slightly underwhelmed if true.

32

27 May 2026 08:53:00
Does that rule out Diomande or possibly in addition to?

Cheers.

8

27 May 2026 08:55:40
Cheers for info, Robbo. I'm gonna hazard a guess that 99% of us are more interested in who's going to be managing our squad at this stage.

He would be a great addition to our side and a massive upgrade on Gakpo.

Him and Diomande would be class.

I just worry about our lack of energy, fitness, and general rubbish play whilst Kojak is still here. 😞

18

27 May 2026 09:01:10
Taking the hand-me-downs of a more successful club for a large fee because they need to make room for the player who has chosen them over us. Feels like a United signing.

21

27 May 2026 09:01:38
Diomande is also a target, definitely.

39

27 May 2026 09:02:23
Nice one, Robbo.

3

27 May 2026 09:05:24
This is good if we bought someone on the other wing like Diomande. We also need a defensive midfielder, and with Wharton.

That would be our front line and midfield sorted.

Get in another right back and another versatile centre back.

We should then sell.

Gomez
Mc Alister
Endo
Jones
Elliott
Gakpo
Chiesa.

3

27 May 2026 09:08:42
Barcola left, Isak central and possibly Diomande right, with a floating Wirtz behind, would be a very fluid attack. Some might say PSG-like?

Would mean at least one midfield being more positionally disciplined and maybe a less adventurous rb?

15

27 May 2026 09:10:01
Cheers, Robbo.

1

27 May 2026 09:15:21
Very good player. When we were first linked, I honestly didn't even believe it, because it's so rare that we poach a top talent from another European giant.

I'm not sure what has caused the discontent for Barcola at PSG; possibly being rotated with Doue the last 6 months? If he comes to Liverpool, he will be a star player though, so hopefully that will be enough to convince him.

Barcola is also someone who will press for us. In fact, he ranked in the top 10% for players in Ligue 1 for possession won in the final 3rd per 90 (as per FotMob).

Most importantly, though, he scores and creates goals.

Fingers crossed this happens. He has far more pedigree than Diomande at a much higher level (Champions League finals etc). Diomande probably has the greater potential, though, given he's only 19, but the Bundesliga seems to be throwing out a few pups in recent years, so I'm not too disappointed if we prioritise Barcola instead. Barcola is still only 23 himself, of course.

18

27 May 2026 09:20:50
Nice one, Robbo. Return of the Red Arrows, hopefully. @threeps, bang on!

1

27 May 2026 09:21:17
Nice one, Robbo. Cheers.

1

27 May 2026 09:39:19
Not thrilled about this at all.

7

27 May 2026 09:45:04
I actually have a friend who lives in around Paris, and he said the talk around PSG is they are moving heavy to get in Alvarez. They also like Diomande, but I do wonder if we push for Barcola is that a sign Diomande prefers a move to France.

We need a direct runner and pace in wide areas. Barcola is just unfortunate that the PSG team is stacked in wide areas. He is a supreme talent. Realistically, we should be going for both him and Diomande, and I wouldn't fully be shocked if that is the case.

But it also depends on the financials. We might end up getting Barcola in and going for someone in the price bracket below as our second option, someone like Toure at Hoffenheim, or I know they do like Diomande's team mate Nusa. He could be a cheaper option on the other side to compete with Rio.

Ken.

2

27 May 2026 09:56:04
Diomande to PSG doesn't make sense to me? He can play both flanks, but his performances are discernibly better playing on the right, which is where Kvara is.

2

27 May 2026 10:02:09
Top lad, Robbo. Hope both come in, and if they don't, then it's not because this info isn't correct today. Things change all the time.

3

27 May 2026 10:06:01
2 shoes... Kojak, 😂 who loves ya baby.

5

27 May 2026 10:28:22
Thank you, Robbo.

So you're trying to recruit both Barcola, Diomande?

Iraola is linking with Milan. How is our coach going?

0

27 May 2026 10:48:28
I would be really happy if this happens.

Always liked the look of him, he's a constant threat and a pressing beast.

He's just unfortunate that he's competing with (imo) the best winger in the world on one side and an absolute diamond of a wonderkid on the other.

Could be a potent Diaz if managed correctly.

2

27 May 2026 11:12:19
Told you months ago.

1

27 May 2026 11:41:45
I can't say I've seen Barca that much, but I have to say, I don't get the fuss about him. I think there are better options.

2

27 May 2026 11:53:04
None of these links feel balanced.
I love Barcola as an attacker, absolutely not keen on him going the other way.
Dame with Diomande.
So, whilst it's all very bang flashy (like signing Isak, Hugo and Flo), unless we sign Ngolo Kante twice for central midfield, a forward line of Isak, BB, Diomande & Flo has absolutely zero pressing. What this ensures is Slot is going to continue with his high possession/low press football that was such an unqualified failure this year.

You can't have two midfielders in a defence that has Frimpong/Kerkez as options. Their only value is going forward.

This also leaves a massive question mark over Doms role. He's an 8. Not a six or a ten. He doesn't work in a double pivot so what gives?

3

27 May 2026 12:14:52
Lightweight for my liking, but deserves a fair crack of the whip if he comes in.

2

27 May 2026 12:29:33
If we get Barcola, maybe PSG will replace him with Diomande. Between the two I'd prefer Diomande.

1

27 May 2026 13:06:44
I would say Barcola is much more proven than Diomande.

I think he'd be a big improvement on what we have at the moment on the wing, which is very little.

5

27 May 2026 13:15:14
NK, a traffic cone with a wig on is better than Gakkers, and the empty space the Mo used to occupy defo needs filling, and Fede definitely isn’t it.

But two very quick wingers will not unleash Isak to be the player he was at Newcastle.

We don’t have Tonali, Guimares and Joelinton.

1

27 May 2026 13:55:51
Tanks for the info.

0

27 May 2026 13:54:07
Pleeeeeasse why can't Slot get out of our club.

2

27 May 2026 14:12:55
Barcola be great.

However, there's a lot of business that needs done elsewhere.

MacA, Jones and Endo potentially leaving.
Remaining senior midfield options for the 2 positions are Grav and Szobo.
Clearly that's not enough and adding Wharton alone won't suffice either.

And that's before we come onto the right sided attacking options, and the fact that Isak can't play every min of every game.

I haven't even mentioned defence.

PSG are happy to bin off Barcola for Diomande, it says as much as I need to know.

If Barcola comes in, surely Gakpo goes out. We already have Rio as backup, while Wirtz and Isak can play there too. If that's the position, then it's an upgrade.

Barcola is currently better than Diomande.
Fact.
