Any news on club planning to offer new contract to firmino? I hear he gets 60 odd. Anyone know when the contract is expiring?

PakRed

1.) 08 Jan 2018 10:15:36
No idea how true it is, but i read he gets a base salary of £68k a week, plus a £45k bonus per goal.

2.) 08 Jan 2018 10:18:12
I mentioned a few months back he wants to stay longer, not sure what’s happening now.

3.) 08 Jan 2018 10:28:39
Coutinho is a player we did not want to lose. Firmino is a player we cannot afford to lose. Keep this one happy at all costs I say.

4.) 08 Jan 2018 10:37:00
Christ! How must they manage on that pittance?

5.) 08 Jan 2018 10:55:34
My favorite player in the squad, even though I tend to swear in front of the TV when he misses some shots :D.

6.) 08 Jan 2018 11:15:31
Why would anyone ask that on the back of the FA investigation this week following the Derby?!?! I hardly think it’s priority number one right now!

7.) 08 Jan 2018 11:25:06
Its priority no. one right now to make sure your important players are tied down to a long term contract and are happy.

The investigation is just a formality. The real investigation should be how holgate did see red for that push.

8.) 08 Jan 2018 11:55:13
Fair enough PakRed. I can’t believe he wasn’t sent off or even get a yellow either, but subject to the outcome the dust would have to settle first before the thorny issue of a contract is approached.

{Ed002's Note - Firmino is contracted until 2020.}

9.) 08 Jan 2018 12:05:01
But in the end, how good is a long term contract. Both Suarez and Coutinho had been handed new improved and extended contracts multiple times. If a player wants out, he will eventually get on, one way or another. The only difference is that we can ask a higher price. I thinkbthe only way to avoid, or limit these enforcements, is to put in a sanctnificant sanction or fine for the player, if he mistreats his contract in a certain aspecs. But what "worldstar" would sign such deal, properly noone. Sometimes I would like football to have a draft system like in the NBA or NFL. Player prices and buyout clauses should be capped and priced by evaluation.

10.) 08 Jan 2018 12:53:20
I think these long terms contracts mean little regarding the player actually staying with the club, however, they do ensure the club gets top dollar when the player goes.

11.) 08 Jan 2018 13:27:05
Mk I think that was misinterpreted when he let mane score rather than tap it in, as he was due a bonus with his next goal!

12.) 08 Jan 2018 15:40:53
We should offer new terms asap for the player 2020 is not that far away.

Reports linking us with Charlie Taylor of Leeds. Is there any truths to this ed?

I read a little bit on him and he's a left back who can also play left wing. Is on the last year of his contract and has handed over a transfer request.

PakRed

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any approach from Liverpool but both West Brom and Middlesbrough have spoken with Leeds about Mr Taylor.}

1.) 26 Aug 2016 16:01:05
LFC are not signing a LB this window. Expect Balo and some of the squad players to move on before end of the window. Perhaps a holding midfielder/ deep lying midfielder is the only possibility of anything coming in.

Regards.

2.) 28 Aug 2016 02:43:55
I hear that Lucas leiva is a great holding mid. Should be pretty cheap too.

23 Oct 2014 09:00:07
Eds just read on metro that liverpool have lodged a 31.2 million bid for higuain? it doesn't say 'interested in' it says bid lodged, any truth to this?

PakRed

{Ed002's Note - They are teasing you. No offer has been made. Liverpool might well be one of the interested clubs if he is made available for sale.}

1.) Yes that is a bid odd, although i'm not sure if higuain is such a good idea as you hear that he is a very lazy player.

I think we need a player like lavezzi who can have similar effects as suarez in terms of work rate and inspiring others. I know he is not a very good finisher but people forget that suarez early in his pool career was all huff and puff and not great finishing, so maybe rodgers can help lavezzi with that

2.) JOURNALIST: BR, BR, how do you plan on helping your defense get back to any sort of form.

BR: I'll tell you how sir. MORE STRIKERS!

Mancity get an extra game in GW 25 and will now get a chance to play before us for every gw excluding one till the end of march. This is not good as playing first is always better.

However Arsenal (h) Everton (A) Chelsea (h) in the space 8 days will be really tough and if they come away with wins in all of them then they will need some stopping.

PakRed

1.) 28 Jan 2019 10:10:00
I think MK made the point recently that while the timing of matches can be of significance in ordinary title run ins, where both teams will look to “manage” their relative positions ensuring they don’t drop more points over a weekend than their rivals, this season is unique - in that the both teams involved are exceptional - that they should not expect to have the privilege of dropping points at any stage while hoping to clinch the title. Therefore we should just ignore the table and Man City and aim to win all the remaining matches. CIty are capable of taking 45 points from their remaining 15 games. So we should aim to take at least 42.

2.) 28 Jan 2019 10:11:24
Really don't think it makes much of a difference though. Far more depends on how Klopp approaches each game and prepares the team with tactics, training and game-day lineup. But I can see how who plays first, worries fans and supporters, because it's something to worry about. 😉.

3.) 28 Jan 2019 10:23:24
we went through this a couple of days ago, just concentrate on winning our games. we do that and we're champions. City have far more pressure - they literally cannot afford to drop a single point whether they play before or after us!

4.) 28 Jan 2019 10:47:54
The pressure I feel is equally difficult for both teams. The pressure they are under to win knowing that if they slip up they then hand the ball over to us. Then equally if City win then the pressure then is on us to match there result. There are pros and cons for both going first or second.

5.) 28 Jan 2019 12:07:10
Hanif, you worded it so much better than I did but that's exactly what I was getting at. Spot on mate.

6.) 28 Jan 2019 12:22:41
The relaxed atmosphere I sense coming from Mel Wood, I really don't see it being an issue. Conversely, City will feel massive pressure to win games against Chelsea etc know ING we have home games against mid table teams.

7.) 28 Jan 2019 12:32:17
Our team should be focusing on their own next game, not citehs.

8.) 28 Jan 2019 16:06:14
Not sure their game against Everyone would be classed as tough.

9.) 28 Jan 2019 16:22:46
I think there is pressure on both teams but if you’re challenging for the big trophies then you need to manage that pressure.
It can work for you or against you but I think this Liverpool team performs better with the pressure on.
Remember us winning at home to PSG then going to Napoli with the pressure off and losing with a very limp performance. So we then smash Red Star at home and then away with the pressure off we lose with another limp performance.
With the pressure then on against Napoli at home, a great performance and should’ve been about 5-0.

10.) 28 Jan 2019 18:10:19
Willing to bet it's going to come down to us needing a point against Wolves on the last game of the season. Salah get's a straight red for diving (even though he didn't) . Down 1-0, Firmino get's fouled for a PK in injury time, Klopp subs himself in as a player and takes the PK, smashes it into the top right corner. Crowd goes wild, Klopp runs into the stands and downs a couple of pints with the fans, red carded for excessive celebration, final whistle blows and we all flood the site to ask the eds about random 100m plus players we'll be purchasing in the summer now that we've won the league.

{Ed025's Note - most of that is believable mate...except the bit where salah dived of course as that is so out of character.. :)

11.) 28 Jan 2019 19:05:01
Didn't we address this a couple of days ago? Either way OP, there are NO advantages or disadvantages by playing first. Proof? City have played lots of times before we did and that did not stop us from winning the games by playing after they did. We only lost 4 points (two draws vs Chelsea and Arsenal away) after City played first and we were still neck and neck with them. Hence, this is a non-advantage. It's just media nonsense trying to gt guys wound up and get more clicks.

This is only disadvantage if people think it is. If you are Klopp and the players, then this means nothing. People just believe in this nonsensical stuff cos they think it makes a diff and the media peddle that stuff as well. It does not, never has and never will.

It only makes a diff. if the manager and the players are NOT focused, prepared and fully concentrated on the game they have in front of them, all the things Klopp and the team have been doing since the season began. The media is going to beat this dead horse till the end. If people allow it to get to them then that is their choice.

Hi all. Looking for anyone to answer my query who has knowledge of injuries and recovery.

The Ox is looking good in first team training at the moment moving around swiftly. What kind of timeline would we be looking it (if all goes well) for him to be back in match day squad? - referring to the Dubai video.

PakRed

1.) 22 Jan 2019 08:16:03
Wouldn’t rush it, I’m sure we won’t see him in february.

2.) 22 Jan 2019 08:22:05
I’ve done my ACL I’ll never play again🙁. If anything I just wouldn’t rush it. Get everything right this season and hope for the best👍🏻.

3.) 22 Jan 2019 08:30:08
It is quite common for follow up injuries to occur like quad and hamstring after not having the intensity of full training and playing. But its just as common for none of this to occur. It does take time to get confidence in changing direction and not having the injury in the back of your mind all the time. Hence why the club are not rushing ox back. If he gets up to full fitness with no setbacks he should be available for selection. ACL injuries are one of the worst injuries to occur. And I forget the exact numbers, but after doing an ACL the chances of doing another goes up like 50%.

4.) 22 Jan 2019 08:37:21
i have faith in our medical team that he will only play when he is ready, whenever that may be.

i think there shouldn't be a set timeline per type of injury, with medical advances we know that different players recover at a different rate.

5.) 22 Jan 2019 09:10:09
I'd be happy if we only had to use him this season if we got caught really short in midfield - he'll be edit from having the full year off and getting in a full pre-season!

6.) 22 Jan 2019 09:12:15
Can he be the same player after recovering from the ACL. It would be very tough for him. His strength and speed are his assets. Both usually go with ACL. He should be given time but i donot think he can play like the same player. he will also have to see if he can play the same way he used to and make smart and sensible decisions and sacrifices for the longevity of his career. His type of player is the only missing thing in this team, Keita hasn't taken over and Ox would have just worked wonders in our current midfield.

7.) 22 Jan 2019 10:54:08
I think it was Ed002 that said he might have a cameo in the champs league final. Lol
I wouldn’t expect to see him this season, maybe a cameo but that’s it, even next season it’s going to take a while to get up to full match fitness.

8.) 22 Jan 2019 10:58:12
Gomez did his and he is still getting better. Everybody is different but it doesn’t mean the end.

9.) 22 Jan 2019 14:47:06
I have faith in Ox to bounce back and make us all proud.

10.) 22 Jan 2019 19:59:55
Blew out my knee tendon and broke my patella during NFL-type football game in 2011. Ain't been right since. Please, let Ox recover fully and not rush things. It will take a long time for him to become what he was before the injury. We cannot be selfish here, people. We have to want what is best for our Ox and if it means he does not play this season (even tho I want him to) then so be it.

{Ed0333's Note - I’m pretty sure you didn’t have world class surgeons, physios, Doctors and rehab while you did you’re knee mate. I had the same miniscus operation as Louis Suarez it took me 6 months to get back in the gym Suarez was plating in the World Cup 5 weeks later. From what I gather the Ox is ahead of schedule and will play this season so keep you’re fingers crossed fella he comes back stronger than ever.

11.) 22 Jan 2019 22:19:26
As above, I did my ligaments and it ended my military career. But Ox will have the best medical staff available looking after him unlike us normal folk. Yes ligaments can effect players pace and power, but this is usually more down to a mental aspect of fearing re-occurrence of injuries and subconscious body movements to compensate for perceived weaknesses.

There are plenty of examples of players being just fine after severe ligament injuries. Take Callum Wilson as a most recent example. Blokes in the form of his life.

12.) 23 Jan 2019 00:55:26
Hope he can he in 10 epl matchdays for the medal!

13.) 23 Jan 2019 03:28:10
Red wolf, doing your patella aswell would be horrible. I have seen professional athletes with bad patella injuries never recover properly. 2 different injuries, but together at the same time, I feel for you brother.

14.) 23 Jan 2019 19:47:47
Ed0333, you're right about that, lol. Many thanks for your kind words, AussieMark. I still have issues with it and now my other knee is starting to give way as well. Lord help me.

{Ed0333's Note - at least I’m right about something 🤣

City's game against Arsenal and Chelsea are so important for us. It shows there strength that we will sit here an predict that they are favourites to win both but boy could we use a favour from the London boys. Im hoping with the fixture pile up and intensity required they might drop points in those back to back fixtures.

We have tough fixtures to contend with too during that time. Leicester have shown us they can beat top team and vardy always seems to score against us.

West ham away is difficult too. They've got a very decent team.

Excited and nervous for the gameweeks ahead.

PakRed

1.) 21 Jan 2019 09:57:48
Pakred, If we do our jobs, we won't need a favout from them. If you have not noticed, we have been going along nicely w/ o paying attention to City nor what they do and as soon as we went top by 1 point after the B'mouth win, City played Chelsea later and lost and they have been behind us ever since. They are the ones who blinked first, not us. The favor won't matter if we don't do our jobs first cos that is what you can control. Do I want a fav. from Arsenal and Chelsea? I mean, is gambling legal in Las Vegas? Of course, I do BUT it ain't going to matter if we don't take care of our business first. Also, the reason we are where we are is cos our boys are ALWAYS focused on the game in front of them and not bothered about anything else. Let them worry about us cos for them right now, any slip up from them (coupled with a simultaneous LFC win) could be the end of the road for them. Let them deal with that fear and pressure.

2.) 21 Jan 2019 10:09:34
We have to do our thing get them points, it will put pressure on city and they might drop points against one of Chelsea or Arsenal. Then we have one hand firmly on the title. But we have to continue doing our thing - be least bothered with what city have got.

3.) 21 Jan 2019 12:44:07
The defensive display on Saturday is more of a worry let’s hope it was a one off and we start getting clean sheets again.

4.) 21 Jan 2019 12:49:28
PakRed. I’m with you on this one. I’ll let the actual team focus on Liverpool only and the one game at a time mentality but as a fan I’m so desperate to win the Premier League I’ve become a nervous wreck this year despite the team being so solid (except for Palace game)

Man City have Arsenal and Chelsea to play before we play Man Utd (which takes us both to only having 2 big 6 teams left) . If we can get to Utd game with a 7 point cushion it just means we can play (and I can watch) with no pressure against them knowing that even if we lost we can still afford to lose another game (or draw two) .

When we lost the City game it didn’t impact my belief we will win the league as we still had a cushion.

Regardless of what players and management say I’m sure some of the players have some of my paranoia and nervousness in their blood. It’s just the way some people are.

5.) 21 Jan 2019 15:08:33
g1dgo, you are projecting your own way of thinking of others. You do not know nor are you sure that some of the players or managers are feeling or not feeling the way you do so let's end with that type of projection. I am as desperate to win the PL as anyone else out there BUT if you allow that to cripple you then that is a personal decision you made and nothing more.

For me, I am fully aware that LFC can have a season of a lifetime and still lose the PL. if you don't think that can happen then again, you made that choice not to believe it. Klopp has mentioned this a lot of times. If you allow history to wear you down, you will NEVER be able to take not even a step. into the future. I propose you employ Klopp's mantra as in: One game at a time and as long as we have some type of cushion after every week over City, it is one step closer to the promise land.

Listen, What we are trying to do is unprecedented: Wresting the title from the so called "Best team the PL has ever seen" (I don't believe that, really) . You think that's going to be easy? We are picking up points, winning games with 3/ 4 of our back line out. The obstacles in front of us are enormous YET here we are. Klopp is up for the fight and so am I and many others. Are you? Peace and Love, my friend.

6.) 21 Jan 2019 18:49:13
Might not be the best first 11 ever seen in the PL but certainly has to be considered as the strongest ever squad, their 2nd string team could probably win the title too.

7.) 21 Jan 2019 23:13:29
Red Wolf. I do believe. I just like having a cushion!

17 Jan 2019 08:25:28
Its correct that people seem to forget how good Couthinio was for us. He gave it his all when he was with us.

Remember the game away to stoke in 16/ 17 season when he was not fit and left behind by Klopp but he drove him self to stoke, asked klopp to put him on the bench came on at half time when we were 1-0 down and score and assisted for us to win the game.

So let's respect what he has also done for the club. He got an opportunity to go for his dream he left and we got a lot of money. He could have stalled signing his contract like them arsenal boys but he signed a new contract a year or so before leaving i think.

PakRed

1.) 17 Jan 2019 08:38:50
I think you’re looking at it with a bit of rose tint mate.

He went on strike, went public of his desire to leave and faked injuries - not cool

However, it seems a lot of the time in football people hold grudges and take things a bit personally.

For me, what he did was bang out of order. But if he publically apologised and said how he regretted his actions etc, it would be forgotten for me.

Everyone makes errors of judgement or does things they wished they hadn’t. And everyone deserves a second chance.

2.) 17 Jan 2019 08:49:41
I think behind the season he had told the club he wanted to leave if Barcelona came. He must have signed a new contract with no buy out clause in good faith.

We got a lot of money for him and we benefited for that. He didn't go to a rival english club.

And like the example I gave he gave all for the club when he was around.

Much better than what the like of Torres did to us.

{Ed001's Note - how did we get a lot of money for him? We still haven't received anything like the £100m the papers talk about. I wish people would actually find out the truth before claiming others are ignorant.

He signed nothing in good faith, the reason for no buy out clause was purely because they are not legally binding in English football.}

3.) 17 Jan 2019 08:55:59
Why is still a discussion? He is gone, move on. Who cares whether he does well at Barcelona or not? He got the move he wanted, we got the money for our summer spending spree and have a better squad now. He is never coming back to LFC, so he can have his second chance elsewhere.

{Ed001's Note - we didn't get the money from his sale! It does not work like that.}

4.) 17 Jan 2019 09:34:17
Is it not correct though Ed that although we didn’t get all of the money upfront we can spend based on the certainty of the instalments being paid in future?
Surely they can’t say as he’s not good enough they aren’t going to pay the agreed amount?

{Ed001's Note - of course you can't spend when it is based on appearances etc. We won't get them if he is sold, which looks likely. You can't base a financial decision on what might come in unless you are Peter Ridsdale.}

5.) 17 Jan 2019 09:45:14
i fully understand coutinho's situation. i am an software Developer and i am Happy at where i am until Google called. now i have my mind set to Work at Google. that is just simply a dream move which i guess similar to coutinho's situation.

6.) 17 Jan 2019 09:49:15
And that's why Southampton made such a great deal (for them) when they sold us VVD. They knew Klopp wanted him at all costs, and simply sat there until they got what they wanted and all upfront. I guess in time we will feel it was a great deal for us too, going by VVD's performances. I know it's not the norm, but still the best way to do business.

7.) 17 Jan 2019 10:02:25
The best part of the coutinho deal was the extra 100 million clause if barcelona try to sign anyone else.

It might keep salah and mane at liverpool this summer. Both looked to have eyes on barcelona. let's hope madrid don't come a knocking.

8.) 17 Jan 2019 10:20:55
Excuse my ignorance Eds. But question, surely there is safe guards in such a deal? As what then would stop a team buying player x for £30m + £30m based on appearances etc. Then 1 season later selling him on for £50m. Thus player x never reaching required appearances. And them making a Easy £20m profit and never paying any of the add ons they negotiated! The way football is run now as a business I just can't see selling teams not putting in some sort of clause if player x is sold, within a certain time frame that wouldn't allow him required time to ever reach 50 appearances, for argument sake. Or there would be nothing stopping teams from doing this to turn a quick profit. Hope that makes sense and not to silly a question. Great site btw.

{Ed001's Note - or like Wolves did with Afobe and buying him then selling him a few days later you mean?}

9.) 17 Jan 2019 10:25:04
That can’t be right though can it Ed? Surely we have a minimum amount that they have to give us regardless of appearances, goals etc. so we know that we are definitely getting X amount over say 5 years. Otherwise it’s a no brainer for them as we are taking all of the risk.
They can just say ‘we’ll sign him for £50mil but if he’s no good we’ll just sell him and not have to pay any more’. That would be a ridiculous way for us to do business.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the structure of the finances for the sale of Coutinho previously. You need to move on from this as it is simply causing a lot of confusion.}

10.) 17 Jan 2019 11:09:44
Want I really wanted to comment on was would you have him back?

And I highlighted a story based on which I would say yes I would not mind having him back if situation develops that way.

11.) 17 Jan 2019 11:27:39
tbh you complain about him going on strike etc. but VVD did it to Southampton did he not? works both ways I for one was upset that Couts left but we have progressed much better as a team without him so good luck to him at Barcelona hopefully it works out you'll all be clapping him in 10 years time when he comes to play at a charity event like Suarez and Torres did last year.

12.) 17 Jan 2019 11:36:48
ED002 very kindly laid out the full structure of the Coutinho deal. You can find it by searching with time stamp “31 Dec 2018 15:27:14”.

By looking at the structure most fans will realise how complex transfer deals can be, with portions which are fixed and portions which are contingents on player appearances or team performance. Also note the agent and other third party fees which are due based on their own terms.

All of this outlines the futility of predicting an unwinding of the deal to bring Couts back without having full insight of the clubs current financial position and future projection, access to legal advice and all parties around the table.

I’d love to see Coutinho challenge Mane, Keita and Shaqiri for a spot in the team but with the eye watering numbers involved I hope the club doesn’t jeapordise its future by stocking overpaid players for rotation. If the club can afford him, I’d be delighted!

13.) 17 Jan 2019 11:52:54
So worst case after deduction towards inter and vasco we will still end up getting 110-120 mil i guess.

{Ed001's Note - you mean best case.}

14.) 17 Jan 2019 12:23:33
Well 120 mil is confirmed with just a timing issue.

Solidarity payment to inter = (120*2.5%) *3= 7.5

Solidarity payment to vasco = (120*2.5%) *3= 7.5

5 guaranteed for 25 games

10 guaranteed for knockout stages (group 5 knock out 5)

Grand worst case total = 120-15+15= 120

I know its not as simple as this but just as an approximation for us fans.

{Ed001's Note - has he made those appearances?}

15.) 17 Jan 2019 14:08:57
Money aside, do you not think he will stay and fight ed? If it’s his dream move like he thought, how can you give up so quickly. Even if you are not in favour, put in the shifts in training. I think he should be aiming for a midfield spot, Busquets rakitic Arthur etc, can’t offer what he can.

{Ed001's Note - or maybe he has realised the grass is not so green.}

16.) 17 Jan 2019 13:19:21
My source is only Wiki (apologies! ) but upto 13 Jan 19, Pipco had made 47 appearances for Barcelona - 35 in the league, 5 in the cup, 6 in Europe and 1 'other'.

According to Ed002's great breakdown, we get the next €5m when he reaches 50 "first class appearances". Not sure what the 'Other' is above, but he's 3-4 appearances away from that payment being triggered.

As PakRed has said above, €120m is guaranteed, with the first €48m already having been paid, €24m due this month, €24m due in June and the remaining €24m due in June 20.

We've already been paid the first €5m of €20m appearance related payments (for 25 appearances) with the next €5m arguably imminent (if he's not sold) .

We've already got the first €5m of the €20m related to Champions League performance (when Barcelona qualified for the 2018-19 UCL) and I would think another €5m is pretty much guaranteed as it is dependent on Barcelona qualifying for the UCL group stages in 2019-20 which is pretty nailed on they will do. The remaining €10m is dependent on Barcelona winning it in each year, which they won't do because we will :)

So, if we assume that he leaves before hitting 75 or 100 appearances for Barca, then we have:

€120m fixed, €10m from appearances (if he reaches 50) and €10m from Barcelona qualifying for the UCL Group stages in 2018-19 and 2019-20 so €140m. Of this we owe Vasco and Inter a total of 5% which is €7m so netting €133m, albeit over time.

I have a couple of questions (probably for Ed002) if I may, just to help our understanding of football finances:

1) Regarding the €120m which is fixed, when would Liverpool be able to book that as revenue in their books for FFP purposes? Is it at point of sale, or at point of receipt of the monies?

2) Also regarding the €120m, are the payment dates adhered to even if the player subsequently is sold by the club? I presume they are even if he leaves, rather than the remaining amount being payable immediately (I seem to remember that we were still paying for players that we had subsequently sold some time earlier)

3) Regarding the UCL related payments, if the player leaves the club beforehand, but they still qualify for/ win the competition, are the payments still due or are they only relevant whilst he is at the club?

Thank you!

Z.

{Ed002's Note - (1) This is not simple as the club borrowed against the income. (2) Yes, typically that is how it works but there is the caveat we spoke of previously if they are to buy another player from Liverpool which would see them paid up. (3) Only whilst he is with the club - people have been court out by not making that clear before (e.g. Liverpool).}

I think it's easy for us to criticise Coutinho as, for any of us to play for Liverpool would be a dream come true. It's different though for South Americans. Their Holy Grail, or at least the majority of them, is to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona. So, while I certainly don't like what he did or how he went about it, I can to some extent understand why he did it. If he didn't take the chance then he might never get another one.

Thanks Ed002, appreciate it.

Can we just pay barcelona what they have paid and get him?

20.) 17 Jan 2019 18:28:55
VakPa, why would we pay them the best part of €80m (roughly what we've received so far) to have a player back who doesn't have a natural position in our shape of team, other than the Shaqiri role in a 4-2-3-1, which Shaq is playing quite nicely himself thank you? In a 4-3-3 he doesn't fit in the middle 3, so he'd have to take Salah or Mane's place. Which would you pick to bench for him? Passing by Pulisic proved to me that a) Mane or Salah are not likely to move any time soon (thankfully) and b) the club is not prepared to pay c€70m for someone to have in rotation. Pipco would cost at least 10-20% more (if not more than that) .

Also, why would he want to come back to us when he's not guaranteed a starting position? His dream was to play for Barcelona and he's on the bench there quite often. If he moves away from his dream club, I would imagine he would want to move to a club where he was a guaranteed starter.

Gomez looks like he will miss only one more game and be back for the one of 30th. So We will have gomez, fabhino, milner and rafa camacho to cover at rb.

No need to panic.

Hoping Arnold can be back for the bayern game. His pace will be crucial against an ageing bayern team.

Plenty of cover and options. Lovren might be back by then also.

2.) 16 Jan 2019 08:51:56
Hasn't Gomez recorded the fastest speed of any LFC player this season so far? If Gomez is covering right back against Bayern I don't think speed will be a problem.

3.) 16 Jan 2019 11:58:04
I'm amazed that Gomez and VVD have clocked faster times than Salah and Mane, this season, but it is what it is. Even Robertson and TAA have been clocked faster. Appearances can be deceiving. 😉.

Thanks for the info, OP. With the "hair on fire" posts out here, you would thing our injured players won't be back till next season.

Maybe against the smaller more stubborn teams we need to play shaqiri in stead of third misfielder.

We will click, there were moments in the past 2 and a half season with klopp where we would not click as an attacking team and lost or drew games. I think we were 9th after that second int break last season.

This season the defense is supporting when we aren't scoring 3-4 goals. The goals will come im not worried.

Xabi its probably best to judge him once he has a consistent run of games under his belt. I think he can be good for us if he gets game time.

The real question is who do you prefer is the squad striker, origi or Ings? its looking like wolfsburg will not retain his services next season.

We need to get ideally a CB a GK and CDM this summer. Worst case we need to get a CB and CDM.

Origi would be marketable for teams outside the top 3 leagues, francce or portugal?

Sad about sturridge and all that potential. he's on 120 too apparently and no one will be willing to pay that.

He could also end up pulling a van persie and be injury free next two years and bang the goals in.

Never a fan of Johnson as defender. Could score goals and some spectacular ones hence probably people thought he was good.
