Been busy for a few days so haven't checked site much. Did a quick search for Wanyama after seeing some links, but can't find anything from Ed001 and 002 specifically ruling out any interest. Please tell me the links are crap.

Burkeyboy

{Ed001's Note - I do not know of any interest in him from us at all. No idea where the links come from, but it sounds like manufactured crap because he once played for Southampton.}

1.) 21 Feb 2018 07:28:44
I would be extremely happy if we could bring him in. He will do a great job covering the back 4.None of the players we have right now is a defencive midfielder and from what i 've heard and read mostly neither is Keita (I 've seen very little of him to form an oppinion) . In any case it is a position that needs strengthening in the summer.

{Ed001's Note - but he is awful at the role, he is constantly caught out of position and it terrible on the ball. He is just a big, powerful lump with none of the mental attributes required to be a top level player. You need more than pace and power to be good at the role of defensive midfielder, positioning is the most important part of the job and he has not got a clue about it.}

2.) 21 Feb 2018 07:54:47
Who would be your preference Ed001 for defencive midfielder? I remember the Southampton Wanyama who was really dominant. Has he declined that much?

{Ed001's Note - he was crap there too, I don't know what you are remembering at all. He uses pace and power to make up for his own mistakes but it does not always work. He is just an average player who has risen too high for his limited talents. Southampton and Spurs have an extra body alongside him to provide cover for those lapses in concentration he has numerous times a game, so they can get away with him being asleep, we don't.

I do wonder why I bother answering questions like this as I have said already on a number of threads who my preferences are. Is there much point me constantly repeating them only to get asked the same question the following day?}

3.) 21 Feb 2018 08:32:19
Ndidi!

stevie started the rumours about wanyama. and actually it's quite funny when you think about it. A+ for idnteifying we need to solidfy the midfield and then he gets an F for saying we need to bring in a big powerful midfielder like wanyama to do that.

4.) 21 Feb 2018 10:30:24
Very worrying for Gerrard's credentials as a future first team manager 🤔

Ed001 didn't actually say Ndidi by the way. For years he wanted Gary Medel and more recently he has suggested Nampalys Mendy as his preferred choice. He's playing well in Nice to be fair.

Ndidi is a player he's said he likes though, along with Obiang and Doucoure. It wasn't his suggestion though.

I still think Demirbay might be the "powerhouse" midfield signing though. He seems to be regarded as an attacking player by most on here, but he is actually very similar to Doucoure. He is fast and powerful which does allow him to break forward from deep to score and create goals, but he actually averages 2 tackles a game for Hoffenheim which is comparable to an out and out holding midfielder. He's over 6 foot, very aggressive, and can play the holding role, box to box, or the No.10.

He's very versatile, and brings much needed steel to the midfield. Most importantly, he is a player we are actually interested in though. Don't forget Keita too who is also very aggressive and contributes a lot defensively. Not many teams would want to face a trio of Keita, Henderson and Demirbay! That is a lot of pace and power, combined with high quality on the ball. Wanyama unfortunately lacks the quality side of things!

5.) 21 Feb 2018 11:20:34
For all wanyamas bad points.

Having someone 6ft, strong, uninterested in wandering up field and will just plonk his was between the two cbs for me is just what we need. It will allow keita, Hendo and the 3 amigos to run riot whilst having someone help us keep our defensive shape.

Also if he is relatively cheap it could be a wise move for a few seasons, maybe focus the rest of our budget on cb and qingback needs.

6.) 21 Feb 2018 12:17:36
his bad points are the very reason to steer clear, as van morrrison would say keep mediocrity at bay.

7.) 21 Feb 2018 13:07:49
Unbelievable people thinking plonking Wanyama in front of defence will improve the midfield. This is not under 10’s football.

8.) 21 Feb 2018 13:31:12
Not good but still managed that screamer against us lol. I don't think he's that bad but he is not good enough for us, especially in a defensive position.

9.) 21 Feb 2018 13:32:53
I've watched Wanyama start twice recently, against Newport County and Rochdale and he was woeful in both games against quite terrible opposition.

There is a reason why Dembele (an excellent player) and Dier (a distinctly average player) are ahead of him in the Spurs team. He is poor. He runs around a lot and is quite strong, and every now and then he hits s thunderbolt of a shot which everyone go "ooooo".

I hope we steer well clear. (if we are even interested at all. which I doubt)

15 May 2016 09:01:45
Hey Ed001. Any chance Ings could be on the bench? I know he's only just returned to training, just wondering.
Also, so happy for Suarez. I know he couldn't wait to move on, but he gave his all when wearing the shirt.

Burkeyboy

{Ed001's Note - they were hoping he would be fit to take at least some part in the game. I don't know, nor will I ask as the club a long time ago asked me not to give out team details prior to matches, whether that is still happening. I want the club to succeed first and foremost, so, as they said it was giving an advantage to the opposition, I am happy to steer clear of team sheets etc. Sorry, I know it is not ideal for the sites, but the club is more important to me.}

1.) 15 May 2016 10:12:13
Well done 001.

{Ed001's Note - it has to be done. The club are my first love after all!}

2.) 15 May 2016 10:21:50
Are team sheets/ news banned now? I hope so for the same reasons Ed01. The people it benefits most are the opposition.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, I just have no involvement in them.}

3.) 15 May 2016 10:32:10
I hope your wife to be isn't reading, ed. Lol.

{Ed001's Note - she knows mate.}

4.) 15 May 2016 12:17:01
I'd say Ed most of us here aren't to bothered about team sheets. It's who's coming and going that we are more interested in.

{Ed001's Note - it does make a huge difference to traffic if you can post them up, so it only applies for those here now, rather than those we could attract.}

5.) 15 May 2016 13:13:00
Thanks for doing that ed, that's completely the right thing to do! Come on reds let's get top 5 and build for next year.

15 Jan 2015 00:02:54
A week ago someone mentioned aussie keeper Matt Ryan. I see a couple of papers are suggesting we're interested. Heard anything Eds?
From the little I've seen he looks a decent keeper with good distribution and is quite vocal. Pulled off a blinding save last week in their first group game of the Asian cup, ball looked destined for the top corner.

Burkeyboy

{Ed001's Note - from what I have been told there has been an enquiry from us, that has been leaked to try and bring others who are interested out of the woodwork.}

1.) 15 Jan 2015 07:48:00
Ed001 - a leak from Ryan's management or from Bruges?

{Ed001's Note - Bruges, they are looking for more money.}

2.) 15 Jan 2015 08:23:01
Seen him in a few games now. Not sure if he is the real thing YET, as he seems to loose his head (Like Grobelaar), but the kids got a big talent for sure

3.) Thanks Ed001. Presumed that would be the case, but just wanted to check.

4.) 15 Jan 2015 09:22:31
This bloke is 5ft11 just as well puttin Warwick Davis between the sticks

5.) 15 Jan 2015 17:21:20
Completely agree, far too short for the premier league. We are the worst in Europe when it comes to scouting and transfersz

13 Aug 2013 06:40:34
Eds, I assume the ESPN rumour is of their usual reliability, surely we wouldn't pay 35mil for Willian? {Ed002's Note - They will be running with a story that is from elsewhere. As I have said, I am not aware of any interest in Willian from Liverpool at this time.}

Burkeyboy

1.) In our dreams

2.) If you look at his goal return its far from good and there are better options out there for half the price being mentioned.

Iker Muniain
Shaqiri
Salvio
Erik Lamela
Konoplyanka

3.) 13 Aug 2013 10:27:31
I saw him playing in the CL last season and he was spectacular, however £35m is way too much. £20-23m would be fair, I'm sure he'd shine at Liverpool and partnering up with Coutinho wouldn't hurt. Adding Willian, a solid CB and LB and it just might persuade Suarez that we'll be a top 4 team this season. {Ed002's Note - A bid of just under €40M has already been rejected.}

4.) Was that €40M bid before or after the Anzhi situation developed? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - It was 10 days ago when Anzhi were already looking to start to restructure their wage budget. It is also irrelevant to what they are asking for, although as we get closer to the window closing they will possibly be accepting less. There is interest in Willian from elsewhere and a prospective deal might just include a player or two on loan for the 2014-2015 season - and a lower cash sale.}

5.) Was that 40m offer from Man City Ed? {Ed002's Note - It was less than €40M and it was from Manchester City. It seems they have since dropped their interest - at least for now - after it was rejected.}

6.) We are aiming too high, we are not a big club anymore. Nobody of any stature/class wants to play for LFC.

7.) 40 million for a striker whos scored 40 goals in 274 appearances hardly seems worth it mind you a majority of his goals came from the ukrainian league which people were already concerned about when we were interested in Micky and he scored 25 goals whilst Willian scored 2 in his league 1 in the domestic cup and 4 in europe I really don't think he'd be worth it.

8.) 13 Aug 2013 17:10:37
Ed02 do you think there is any possibility Liverpool go for him or is he out of our reach? {Ed002's Note - I can't say - but it would cost a great deal of money.}

9.) 13 Aug 2013 17:42:08
We already have Coutinho.

10.) The Times Tony Barrett who so far has been fairly on the ball, is saying we have moved for him now.

11.) 13 Aug 2013 22:58:52
Ben smith and tony barrett say we are interested

I know the players are busy boys, but just watched a video of the players getting off the coach about to fly out to the game and only a few stopped for autographs. The crowd wasn't huge, would have taken them 60 seconds. There were a few exceptions. Moreno was generous with his time. Hendo and Lallana did stop briefly as did Mane, but probably the one player who stood out was Firmino. Why am I not surprised? So, so glad he's signed an extension, absolutely top guy.

Burkeyboy

1.) 02 May 2018 08:29:02
Did he look st the people while he was signing autographs though 😂.

2.) 02 May 2018 14:33:30
ha, the no look signing again .

3.) 03 May 2018 12:18:35
Wasn't there a directive from the club that wanted the lads to stop giving autographs, something about them autographs going straight on Ebay?

26 Apr 2018 06:05:55
With only 3 recognised senior mids fit, which option would you go for:

1. Use TAA to rest mids when CL qualification assured. (4 points needed out of 3 games)
2. Change formation from 4-3-3 to a 4-2-3-1
3. Stick with same 3 mids for rest of the season (should be 5 games)
4. Use Woodburn, Herbie Kane, Curtis Jones.
5. Other.

Burkeyboy

1.) 26 Apr 2018 06:25:49
We could play Emre Can?

2.) 26 Apr 2018 07:12:18
We’ll still him alongside Lallana and Ox in our cripples 11 Mrplums.

3.) 26 Apr 2018 07:32:30
TAA might need a rest too don't you think? He has been running his backside off at RB and just chucking him in midfield to rest others may not make sence. It could cause him to get injured and that wouldn't be great right now either. I say take each prem game as it comes and if any players need resting then make the decision there and then.

4.) 26 Apr 2018 08:01:27
Use a combination of your options 1 and 4 for the Stoke game. Use the starting 3 for both Roma and Chelsea. Back to options 1 and 4 for the Brighton game.

5.) 26 Apr 2018 08:45:53
Just play the strongest team who are match fit in every game we play?

People always seem to forget that these guys train far harder than they play. If your training sessions aren't harder than your games, you are not being coached or worked correctly.

A professional boxer could probably go for 15-18 rounds of they had to. Mo Farah used to run the 10k and 5k back to back, with practice runs in between. Tennis players play a far more physically gruelling sport in generally higher temperatures every 2 or 3 days.

The only real concern should be an impact injury, such as the one Ox sustained. Where do you draw the line though? Aguero got injured in a car crash! So do we ban players from cars in the build up to the final?

Spurs players got ruined by a dodgy lasagne! You can't live in fear. These guys could just as easily get injured in training. Dean Ashton's career was ended by Shaun Wright-Phillips in a training session.

Paisley's skin would crawl at the very thought of the next game not being the most important in the world.

If we get an injury, we find a way to cope. We rested Ox against West Brom, and he still ended up out for the season in an innocuous challenge. So it clearly doesn't help much, if at all to rest players. Matip got injured whilst he was being rotated. Ings did he knee ligaments in 2015 during training. Lallana got season ending injury after a handful of sub appearances.

It is the luck of the draw. I am getting tired of seeing footballers so pampered and bubble wrapped. I want to hammer Stoke, Chelsea and Brighton. Whether we need to or not.

Sorry for the rant. I'm sure it will go down like a lead balloon, but hey-hoh; This site is here for us to express our mad opinion!

6.) 26 Apr 2018 09:22:42
Not to mention there is ample time between games now.

7.) 26 Apr 2018 09:50:03
Exactly Southern Red! 5 games in the next 30 days. It's not like the Christmas period where you have 5 games in 12 days on dodgy pitches in cold weather.

The conditions and rest periods are perfectly fine. Salah will want to play every game to break the record. Firmino will want to make it 30 goals for the season. Mane will have his eyes on scoring 20. Milner and Wijnaldum are fit enough to play every week anyway.

My only real concerns are Henderson and Lovren who seem to naturally struggle with playing twice in quick succession. So just rest them against Stoke and go full strength aside from that. I'm sure Ben Woodburn and Joe Gomez could handle Stoke City!

8.) 26 Apr 2018 09:52:33
Very well said MK.

9.) 26 Apr 2018 10:11:51
Great post MK one of the best I've seen here for a while! As much as we'd all like to wrap them up in cotton wool there's no guarantee they won't drop a bottle of aftershave on their foot (canizares i believe before the world cup a few years ago) or something strange like that. Klopp knows if someone desperately needs a rest but we must still try secure top 4 as imagine the disaster that would bring (if we don't win the champs league)

These boys are professional and will want to play every game. particularly Mo as he targets the records!

It's also not to be underestimated that this time around unlike the city games we have Tuesday - saturday - wednesday rather than for the quarters it was wednesday-saturday-tuesday. so effectively an extra 2 days between, not much but definitely should help.

3 points against stoke sat is a must, go finish the job against roma on Wednesday and let us dream! Come on you redmen!

10.) 26 Apr 2018 11:16:35
Sorry MK but i don't understand your logic. Do you think there is more, or less, chance of Firmino or Salah being fit for the Roma game if they play versus Stoke?
Sure they have the physical attributes to play three games in 8 days but the probability of injuries increases so why not play Solanke or Ings this weekend? Excluding them vs Stoke isn't just about preseving their energy. Stoke are a bunch of thugs on a good day so give our other strikers an opportunity.

11.) 26 Apr 2018 11:29:19
I don't think option 3 is realistic as Henderson's fitness means it really is important he rests. I know some people want the strongest possible side out there every game but Henderson is very important and, whilst we are still in the CL, he needs preserving. Using TAA is OK but I am unconvinced by either Clyne or Gomez at right back and think TAA is by far the best option there. I think Woodburn and Curtis Jones are the most likely, and most common sense, selections in my opinion. As somebody else stated on another thread I just hope Klopp doesn't revert to a back 3 - it really does not suit the personnel as well and defensively we look much more vulnerable. 4-2-3-1 is an idea but its still essentially a similar formation to the one we play now - how would that formation realistically change personnel selected? I think giving the youngsters a chance is both the best way and the only proper way forward - as ED and others have said countless times how will we know if they are good enough if they do not get a chance?

12.) 26 Apr 2018 11:36:00
Does it increase though RedLorry? If they Don't play, from experience I know you are slightly less sharp for the next game.

If that lack of sharpness sees you stretching to retain a loose touch, or mistime a tackle etc then you could argue there is greater risk of injury?

I personally Don't see the fuss. The minimum recovery period is supposedly 48 hours. They have that and then some!

As Traore said, they could drop an aftershave bottle and break their foot at home! I fractured a metatarsal in January slipping on laminate flooring because my toddler left his blanket there in the dark.

Aguero got given a night off and was in a car crash! You can't wrap players up in cotton wool to the detriment of the team. There is no guarantee we will win the CL, and top 4 is not safe yet. We lose to Stoke and then lose to Chelsea, all of a sudden the game against Brighton is a must win. Why risk That? Just bury Stoke and get the job done.

13.) 26 Apr 2018 11:57:01
Can we use our full backs in some sort of formation. We can easily play all four, Robertson, Moreno, Clyne and Gomez.

Remember when Jose Enrique played for us in the midfield? ok Im sorry.

14.) 26 Apr 2018 13:51:58
But you are talking possibilities not probabilities, MK. Salah could drop a bottle of aftershave on his foot in the dressing room before Saturdays match, Firmino could break a tooth warming up vs Stoke. Anything could happen at the match or if they stay at home.
Id like to see a few changes on Saturday. Give the likes of Ings, Solanke, WOodburn, etc a go and keep a few first teamers injury-free for next week.

15.) 26 Apr 2018 16:57:10
Next two games both important, and then after that there’s plenty of time to rest until the final anyway and we can’t wrap all our starting 11 in cotton wool for fear of injury.

I think with that in mind, only change I’d make vs Stoke is resting Hendo, and playing Gini, Milner and Woodburn in midfield.

16.) 26 Apr 2018 18:29:03
But using the scary logic that's coming from a lot of people.

What if Woodburn plays against Stoke and gets a really bad injury that ruins his career?

We can't risk him either. Haha.

17.) 27 Apr 2018 11:01:39
How about a 5th option?

5) trust in Klopp.
:)

08 Apr 2018 03:01:27
Thought gini had a good game playing a bit deeper. Can We view that as a pointer to Tuesday?

Burkeyboy

1.) 08 Apr 2018 06:35:27
With Can and Hendo out, Gini was the next logical option for the DLP role anyways. His role against Everton was just practice for what's to come against City.

2.) 08 Apr 2018 08:24:25
he has played well there this season. can think of a few games when he and Can have played a two-man CM base and they were excellent together. don't know if Can is in or out tho.

3.) 08 Apr 2018 14:02:59
Faith, when Gini and Can played, it was Can playing mostly in the 6 role and not Gini. As for him playing well vs Everton, it is easier to do that vs a team who pretty much parked the bus for 75% of the game. City will not be doing that on Tues and he will have to be WAY better than what he showed at Goodison so I would not be too complimentary on his perf. just yet.

04 Apr 2018 21:38:48
I said yesterday that people were worried about TAA, but that he could have a blinder.

Burkeyboy

1.) 04 Apr 2018 22:31:13
What surprised me is that city just didn’t stop targeting him, it was like the sane vs TAA show, city seemed to have one game plan and no alternative, TAA was solid as a rock and city didn’t have a clue how else to attack us. Bad management, you identify a weakness but you need to have other methods of attack incase it doesn’t work.

2.) 04 Apr 2018 22:40:46
One of the most accurate posts I've read tonight mikey, that's exactly what happened mate, they thought he was the weak link and tried to exploit him time and time again and failed, bloody epic mate.

3.) 04 Apr 2018 23:03:39
There were a number of factors that helped him tonight.
1) He’s a quick learner and an honest lad who admits his faults and works on them.
2) Lovren offered him far more support than Matip.
3) The midfield worked hard and helped protect him. Guess that it shows copious amounts of graft can win over skill.

4.) 04 Apr 2018 23:20:23
Spot on, boys re: TAA. TAA knew they would come for him and boy, did he stand up and be counted? City it seemed, put all their eggs in one basket as they pumped the ball over to TAA's side all game and never changed even when every man and his dog, knew it was was not working cos Klopp put a plan together to make sure TAA was never isolated and on the few times he was, he shut Sane down.

5.) 04 Apr 2018 23:25:10
I thought the key was that he didn't jump in. He was happy to give Sane a yard and only left inside runs and passes as options. At one stage he gestured I think to Lovren that he couldn't hear him just after a challenge. Clearly they'd worked on waiting for a call from the second defender before committing. Just basic defending principles that are hard to master if you're always looking to nic the ball and get forward. Defend first, attack second.

6.) 05 Apr 2018 01:00:12
All city tried was to target that right hand side, Young trent did a top job as sane has been so dangerous this season. Was a bit poor on citys part, Loved the result hopefully we get an early goal next week.

It's frustrating to see though when teams actually have a go at city they don't seem as invincible as they have been, Wigan beat them and then you get prem teams just setting up for damage limitation, its very poor and has let city have a easier time than should have to the title. They have been class not saying they haven't just wish some teams had more bottle playing versus them as the prem i feel should be closer!

Top result though, top performance!

YNWA.

{Ed0333's Note - It was interesting that even when Sterling came on they continued with the ball to Sane tactic. If I was Sterling I’d be really pissed.

7.) 05 Apr 2018 01:18:16
Think Lovren played a blinder today too.

8.) 05 Apr 2018 08:00:31
Spot on, Allistair and Mickmullin. Love your views on TAA and YES.

03 Apr 2018 23:42:35
Maybe TAA will have a blinder tomorrow? All I'm seeing is lots of worried people. The 2 main times he was caught out was against teams that sat back and hit it long. Do City do that much?

Burkeyboy

{Ed0333's Note - I feel so sorry for TAA, most people are expecting him to crumble if he plays, including me. I truly hope for his sake he plays a blinder and rams the criticism down our throats.

1.) 04 Apr 2018 02:55:37
Yeah I feel for him Ed0333. He's a defender at the moment and mistakes are analysed to death. Not much mention of him coming out at half time v Palace and really getting on the front foot, helping drive the team forward to an eventual gritty win. Klopp can't possibly start Clyne surely, and I can't see Klopp changing his set up to incorporate a back 3, or playing a midfielder in there, so let's be supportive, positive, and hope for the best.

{Ed0333's Note - I would be horrified and aghast if Klopp played Clyne in a game of this magnitude. Admittedly he’s been training for a month but is he match fit? I’m not sure he’s up to speed and I’m not sure he would repel Sane more than Trent. I mean he’s not very good when he’s 100%.

2.) 04 Apr 2018 06:30:34
His defensive awareness is extremely poor at times, looks a top full back going forward and with the ball at his feet he's excellent but really needs to improve on the positional sense at the back.

3.) 04 Apr 2018 07:12:06
Clyne was always a poor defender so him being out will not suddenly make him better. It will make him worse. Personally, I'm not worried about TAA as the kid is a very smart and intelligent person who knows his flaws and actually apologized for his play at OT even tho IMO, he had nothing to apologize for. I am more worried that there are no senior players there to guide him thru games, get on his back when he's not doing his job and encourage him. That is my main issue and I hope Klopp puts a plan in to rectify this and not leave him isolated vs Sane.

4.) 04 Apr 2018 10:23:17
Trent pushing on and making Zaha 'defend' is what improved his game last week. Not sure it will work against Sane but he needs to do similar tonight. Maybe less often. Hopefully Klopp will set up with Vvd right sided and Milner to give Trent protection. Not because he's that bad, just because city are that good and both our full backs need help when they are asked to be so attacking.

5.) 04 Apr 2018 14:27:41
If Rashford and Zaha can take the lad apart, a proper top class player like Sane will crucify the poor lad. The definition of insanity is repeating the same mistakes over and over again expecting different results.

6.) 04 Apr 2018 15:03:04
Dennis on the flip side, if the CB's and his team mates had also done their jobs in those instances as they did with helping Gomez shut Sane (yeah, the same guy) down in the last game vs City, then those players would not have had a sniff. Just saying.

7.) 04 Apr 2018 05:49:17
Ed0333, even if Clyne is “match fit” is he mentally fit to jump right back into a champions league quarter final?

My guess would be no.

Red Sandman.

{Ed0333's Note - Im opposed to Clyne playing against City in either games in any capacity so let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. Trent is the way forward but the lad clearly has limitations but as someone alluded to earlier in the thread he’s being let down by his colleagues. Van Dick, Lovren, Matip and the midfielders should be helping him, covering him and at least doing what Carra used to do so well by giving him a bollocking and telling him what to do if he’s not doing what he’s meant to be doing.

I have it on the highest authority that Buvac has finally agreed to Klopp's demand. He will now only be allowed on the bench if he has a neatly trimmed beard and matching Klopp glasses. Apparently the fitness guy just is pulling it off well enough :)

5-6 miles Westwood? I don't think the pain would be an issue for me, fairly sure I'd be dead after 2.

Zlatan and Jose, a match made in Heaven. Both are the very best at what they do and when things go wrong, just blame everybody else. I still can't believe how much Jose moans and whinges and throws his players, fans, club under a bus. A well parked bus as well!

Is "reliable" journo James Pearce still as unreliable as ever? Claims no interest in Butland at Anfield.

Agree Salah. My only thought is that our counter may not be the feature we'd hope for. What I mean is, do Real actually play a decent possession game any more? I think we'll have a good amount of the ball. My hope is that we score first and they have to have a go. We saw against City what happens then.
