Hey Ed001. Any chance Ings could be on the bench? I know he's only just returned to training, just wondering.
Also, so happy for Suarez. I know he couldn't wait to move on, but he gave his all when wearing the shirt.

Burkeyboy

{Ed001's Note - they were hoping he would be fit to take at least some part in the game. I don't know, nor will I ask as the club a long time ago asked me not to give out team details prior to matches, whether that is still happening. I want the club to succeed first and foremost, so, as they said it was giving an advantage to the opposition, I am happy to steer clear of team sheets etc. Sorry, I know it is not ideal for the sites, but the club is more important to me.}

1.) 15 May 2016 10:12:13
Well done 001.

{Ed001's Note - it has to be done. The club are my first love after all!}

2.) 15 May 2016 10:21:50
Are team sheets/ news banned now? I hope so for the same reasons Ed01. The people it benefits most are the opposition.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, I just have no involvement in them.}

3.) 15 May 2016 10:32:10
I hope your wife to be isn't reading, ed. Lol.

{Ed001's Note - she knows mate.}

4.) 15 May 2016 12:17:01
I'd say Ed most of us here aren't to bothered about team sheets. It's who's coming and going that we are more interested in.

{Ed001's Note - it does make a huge difference to traffic if you can post them up, so it only applies for those here now, rather than those we could attract.}

5.) 15 May 2016 13:13:00
Thanks for doing that ed, that's completely the right thing to do! Come on reds let's get top 5 and build for next year.

15 Jan 2015 00:02:54
A week ago someone mentioned aussie keeper Matt Ryan. I see a couple of papers are suggesting we're interested. Heard anything Eds?
From the little I've seen he looks a decent keeper with good distribution and is quite vocal. Pulled off a blinding save last week in their first group game of the Asian cup, ball looked destined for the top corner.

Burkeyboy

{Ed001's Note - from what I have been told there has been an enquiry from us, that has been leaked to try and bring others who are interested out of the woodwork.}

1.) 15 Jan 2015 07:48:00
Ed001 - a leak from Ryan's management or from Bruges?

{Ed001's Note - Bruges, they are looking for more money.}

2.) 15 Jan 2015 08:23:01
Seen him in a few games now. Not sure if he is the real thing YET, as he seems to loose his head (Like Grobelaar), but the kids got a big talent for sure

3.) Thanks Ed001. Presumed that would be the case, but just wanted to check.

4.) 15 Jan 2015 09:22:31
This bloke is 5ft11 just as well puttin Warwick Davis between the sticks

5.) 15 Jan 2015 17:21:20
Completely agree, far too short for the premier league. We are the worst in Europe when it comes to scouting and transfersz

13 Aug 2013 06:40:34
Eds, I assume the ESPN rumour is of their usual reliability, surely we wouldn't pay 35mil for Willian? {Ed002's Note - They will be running with a story that is from elsewhere. As I have said, I am not aware of any interest in Willian from Liverpool at this time.}

Burkeyboy

1.) In our dreams

2.) If you look at his goal return its far from good and there are better options out there for half the price being mentioned.

Iker Muniain
Shaqiri
Salvio
Erik Lamela
Konoplyanka

3.) 13 Aug 2013 10:27:31
I saw him playing in the CL last season and he was spectacular, however £35m is way too much. £20-23m would be fair, I'm sure he'd shine at Liverpool and partnering up with Coutinho wouldn't hurt. Adding Willian, a solid CB and LB and it just might persuade Suarez that we'll be a top 4 team this season. {Ed002's Note - A bid of just under €40M has already been rejected.}

4.) Was that €40M bid before or after the Anzhi situation developed? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - It was 10 days ago when Anzhi were already looking to start to restructure their wage budget. It is also irrelevant to what they are asking for, although as we get closer to the window closing they will possibly be accepting less. There is interest in Willian from elsewhere and a prospective deal might just include a player or two on loan for the 2014-2015 season - and a lower cash sale.}

5.) Was that 40m offer from Man City Ed? {Ed002's Note - It was less than €40M and it was from Manchester City. It seems they have since dropped their interest - at least for now - after it was rejected.}

6.) We are aiming too high, we are not a big club anymore. Nobody of any stature/class wants to play for LFC.

7.) 40 million for a striker whos scored 40 goals in 274 appearances hardly seems worth it mind you a majority of his goals came from the ukrainian league which people were already concerned about when we were interested in Micky and he scored 25 goals whilst Willian scored 2 in his league 1 in the domestic cup and 4 in europe I really don't think he'd be worth it.

8.) 13 Aug 2013 17:10:37
Ed02 do you think there is any possibility Liverpool go for him or is he out of our reach? {Ed002's Note - I can't say - but it would cost a great deal of money.}

9.) 13 Aug 2013 17:42:08
We already have Coutinho.

10.) The Times Tony Barrett who so far has been fairly on the ball, is saying we have moved for him now.

11.) 13 Aug 2013 22:58:52
Ben smith and tony barrett say we are interested

Missed the first 20 minutes of the game, but what I noticed straight away was the intensity with which Gini was playing. I know he's be slammed on here a fair bit lately, but from what I saw of the first half, he was excellent.
I also think TAA is clearly our best RB. He doesn't seem to get caught out positionally as much as Gomez and he can deliver a great cross.
Also, great cover and block from VVD late in the game to keep the clean sheet.

Burkeyboy

1.) 15 Feb 2018 00:40:12
Wouldn’t say he was excellent but did put himself about more than usual.

2.) 15 Feb 2018 05:28:24
He was far more active and combatative then usual and really contributed to the midfield performance - he needs to be producing performances like that consistently.

3.) 15 Feb 2018 06:37:00
I thought he was brilliant too.

4.) 15 Feb 2018 07:24:59
I came on this morning to echo this. People are quick to critisize, and I realise that one game does not a player make, but a good performance should always be praised, no matter who gave it.

5.) 15 Feb 2018 08:31:18
Gomez is not even a right back, he just filling in this season an gaining experience as clyne injured, hope he gets chances at centre back that's were his future lies.

6.) 15 Feb 2018 09:44:39
Agree, Wini is well suited to the European games. He really has everything in his locker which is frustrating sometimes as he is either lazy or lacks confidence. Technically excellent, fast, strong and has a goal in him. at home anyway!

I think he is hard done by with some of the comments on here .

7.) 15 Feb 2018 12:28:51
They were all excellent.

8.) 15 Feb 2018 13:49:59
Gini plays amazing once every 4 or 5 games, luckily this was one of those xD he'll be missing for the next few if on the pitch we won’t realize he actually is.

Really needs to sort his consistency out and he would be a decent player.

05 Feb 2018 09:52:37
A while ago I questioned the club's partnership with Tibet water company and its association with a regime with shocking human rights. I now see the club has partnered with a Canadian petro chemical company. I see they're not learning Ed002.

Burkeyboy

{Ed002's Note - Not they are not.}

1.) 05 Feb 2018 10:25:03
It’s like we are going around the world giving sponsorship contracts to companies that no one else will touch cause they are morally dodgy. The mind boggles.

2.) 05 Feb 2018 10:51:36
Have any of you ever bought clothes or anything else in a store called (not sure if I can name it directly, so it sounds like Drimarc) at any point of your lives?

If you still do, you should check out their manufacturing set up in foreign countries - I would say it resembles child slave labour, but who am I to say so.

Makes me sick, but we have zero control on such things in business, cause that's what football is now first and foremost.

{Ed001's Note - we have all the control, we can choose to take our business elsewhere.}

3.) 05 Feb 2018 11:21:56
I followed that logic Ed001 when i recently tried to go vegetarian to aid in the fight against animal cruelty. First time i went into a supermarket and realised that meat was still on the shelf, it made me realise how small and insignificant we are as individuals. I bought a pack of bacon and got over it.

I might give it another go but i just don't see how we can make a difference when 90-95% of the world don't care. So ultimately you just punish yourself to have no impact.

It's not like any of us are realistically going to boycott football 100% until it changes. I have enough stress without making the world's problems my own! Perhaps I'm just selfish. Apologies for my previous post on this thread by the way. I realised as soon as i hit send that considering where you are based it was a bit silly to bring that up.

{Ed001's Note - how is it punishing your self not to buy crap from Primark etc? As for animal cruelty, vegetarianism is not better for animals as we only have cows, sheep etc for their meat, so they would need culling if everyone went veggie.}

4.) 05 Feb 2018 11:28:51
Done many years ago mate (from my buying clothes point of view) .

Sadly, exploitation is rife in business from top to bottom, almost like how performance enhancing drugs are rife in most pro sports now.

Money causes us to do some crazy, crazy $h! t, but when it affects innocent kids, it's time to draw a line.

5.) 05 Feb 2018 11:32:35
Primark is all i can afford mate 😂

Good point though Ed. Cows would be in the natural history museum if we were all vegan.

"Exhibit 52: T-Rex"
"Exhibit 53: T-Bone"

{Ed001's Note - buy cheap, buy twice....}

6.) 05 Feb 2018 12:34:50
What I don't understand is that JH has taken a noble stand in Boston in renaming a street named after the former owner who was an alleged racist in the '50's and '60's and yet he turns around and does business like this.

7.) 05 Feb 2018 14:00:21
We will be getting sponsored by the galactic empire next with pre season friendlies played on the Death Star.

8.) 05 Feb 2018 16:41:14
Okay, now this may be me being entirely uninformed, but exactly what is the problem with this tie-in? As far as I can see this is a company that creates transmission and engine fluids and lubricants. They are not ravaging baby seals, they are not mining blood diamonds. They are a lubrication company. Why is it so wrong to be sponsored by them?

I can't find any reports online that state that they are responsible for any natural disasters, that they permit gross exploitation of workers, that they practice irresponsibly in any way.

The world wants these products, in fact the world needs these products.

They are no different than any other industrial business.

But I am happy for someone to explain to me exactly why we should be ashamed of ourselves in this.

9.) 05 Feb 2018 18:58:59
Why is a petrochemical company necessarily ‘dodgy? I am guessing you all fill up your cars, and use all manner of oil derivatives? And why is this worse than all the clubs who happily take the shilling of gambling and beer companies?

{Ed002's Note - Nobody is suggesting it is worse - the thread was regarding a host of commercial deals that the club has.}

10.) 05 Feb 2018 22:13:45
Is there some shocking human rights abuse going on in Canada then? 🤔.

11.) 06 Feb 2018 00:34:26
Gee, didn't think this many would respond. Many of you are correct, one individual makes little difference in the stand they take. I choose to live my life in the best way I can. Whether that's being mindful of where I buy my clothes to being nice to the bloke next to me on the train. I believe this is the major difference we can realistically make to make the world a better place.

Liverpool football club is a world brand. I believe the club, with it's vast reach and influence, has a moral obligation to also be mindful of the decisions it makes and the example it sets. Surely we should be focused on quality not quantity. Imagine if the club had just a handful of high profile sponsors/ partners instead of signing deals left, right and centre with whoever throws money at them?

In regard to petro-chemical companies. Whilst the company itself may proud and upstanding, it's a worldwide practice that in general is not doing the planet and its future people any favours when there are better options out there.
Who would love to see the club sign up with a renewable energy company, even if they couldn't pay as much as a petro one?

29 Jan 2018 08:13:55
Apologies if this has been covered, been avoiding the site lately.
I'm not a stats guy and wouldn't even know where to look, so maybe someone can tell me if I'm wrong, but I've been wondering if our good run up until recently, particularly a decent defensive run, coincided with Klavan playing?

Burkeyboy

1.) 29 Jan 2018 08:29:13
Since Klavan has been dropped and Matip has returned to the team, we've conceded 8 goals in 4 games and not kept a clean sheet.

I'm not making any claims, people can make their own opinions from that.

2.) 29 Jan 2018 08:53:01
I'd like to see lovren next toVVD. feel like Lovren will step up with a dominant CB partner.

3.) 29 Jan 2018 10:35:51
To be fair Klavan has been generally solid when he's played this season. But Gomez has to play with VVD in the middle and every week. Moreno should never wear a Red shirt again and Migs should be shot from the nearest cannon across the Mersey and retire in the isle of man.

4.) 29 Jan 2018 11:03:56
One thing that cannot be argued is that between Spurs and Christmas, we had a settled defense where more or less the same team played week in week out and our defensive record was right up there. We changed it when VVD came in and now we're back to being a hot mess.

5.) 29 Jan 2018 11:47:57
I knew it was a mistake to play Matip w/ VVD as he has been our poorest CB this season. Gomez is simply not ready yet and based on the errors he commits at RB, he should stay there cos if he makes an error there, there is a chance his team mates in defence will bail him out. At CB, he will be in trouble. I too, would love Loren on the right to VVD cos Lovren is a better defender by a mile than Matip with Klavan being a close second. I hope Lovren comes in tmrw vs Hudd cos Matip is no longer possible, IMO.

6.) 29 Jan 2018 13:16:10
Matip's willingness to give up a chase he won't win terrifies me. How often do you see defenders put off a forward by just being around and bearing down on them, or a forward miscontrol and a late arriving defender get a second chance to knock it clear. Matip's tendency to give up and wonder into no mans land (i presume to make it look like he's trying to mark someone else but there is often no-one else nearby) makes me wonder what he thinks is going on around him at times - especially when that puts ridiculous pressure on other nearby players to try and take up his responsibility and then look at fault for goals.

7.) 29 Jan 2018 16:11:26
Klavan, this season, has been better than lovren and Matip. I'd go on to say that's fact.

10 Jan 2018 22:12:45
Can anyone tell me much about Liverpool's recent sponsorship deal with Tibet Water company? Has there been any backlash or protest? I'm a bit ashamed that we would enter into a deal with a company that profits off the oppression of a people and the exploitation of their resources.

Burkeyboy

{Ed002's Note - All deals with organisations that are socially questionable (e.g. Bet Victor), socially bankrupt or have caused the club embarrassment (e.g. Dunkin’ Donuts), nonsense (Nivea and the club’s official coconut water supplier TCC), are from a country with controversial human rights (flag carrier Malaysian Airlines – who replaced just as bad Indonesia’s Garuda) or have been accused of exploitation (Tibet Water) should be cancelled or run down as soon as possible. Being on morally better ground will make a club with Liverpool’s profile to get better profile sponsors. I am astonished that the club keep doing this.}

1.) 11 Jan 2018 15:19:05
So i guess that rules out a deal with VIPOO, miramax (harvey weinstein) and poundland?

2.) 11 Jan 2018 17:11:08
Never even heard about it until you posted Burkeyboy but it is outrageous that the club continues to sign sponsorship deals with such morally dubious companies - why do they do it? Is this just pure greed?

{Ed002's Note - You would have thought that the club would see this.}

3.) 11 Jan 2018 20:43:13
What embarassment did Dunkin Donuts cause out of interest Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - I really don’t want to open all of this stuff again.}

06 Jan 2018 20:29:13
Just a quick thanks to the Ed's, particularly 1 and 2 for your info with the couts saga and for putting up with us annoying posters. I've been able to dismiss the crap and hyperbole on other sites and news channels as it didn't match what you'd informed us with, thanks again.

Burkeyboy

{Ed001's Note - always welcome mate.}

I tend to look at the players he had around him when performing at his best. It's easy to look at Keane and Viera as being top shelf, but they consistently had quality around them. Scholes I don't rate as much as you do Ed033, in fact I think he was hugely overrated, but that's just a personal opinion. Keane was a beast, really put himself about and scared his own team mates never mind the opposition. Viera I think of as a classic midefielder. Touch, vision, drive, passion. Gerard I think is the closest to Viera, but again, only shone when Xabi and Masch were there with him. Other times pure grit and determination made him stand out when partnered with lesser midfielders.
So I'd go with:
Viera
Gerard
Keane
Not sure where to put Alonso. Quality player and person.
