Sorry Ed2, I have to ask!
David Ornstein, usually reliable, has now said Liverpool are “actively pursuing “ a specialist no.6, outside of the premier league.
Any idea who that may be?
{Ed002's Note - From my perspective Ederson remains of interest. But you would need to ask him why he is teasing the Liverpool fans and wasting my time.}
1.) 06 Aug 2024 09:20:39
Ederson would improve us, fingers crossed.
2.) 06 Aug 2024 09:38:35
Varela or Zubimendi would be better I think. Can’t remember if we have any interest in either though.
3.) 06 Aug 2024 09:11:57
Oh Ed you must love a little teasing, although guess no one wants a taste of their own M-ederson.
4.) 06 Aug 2024 09:49:31
If you want to know about interest in players our ed002 is all you need
Up the pool.
5.) 06 Aug 2024 11:31:49
Ugarte after Macs stepped away so suddenly. He shares the same agent with Fabinho and Ibou.
Another option I like is Ezequiel Fernandez from Argentina olympic team. Just my guess.
{Ed002's Note - Ezequiel Fernandez (DM) After losing out on Boca youngster Alan Varela, Benfica have turned to another Boca youngster, Ezequiel Fernandez, as a potential Florentino replacement - Fernandez is also interesting Marseille, Milan, Arsenal and Liverpool who had him scouted by an ex-PL player who is now a very high-end scout. Porto consider him an option. Regardless of a new contract, both Arsenal and Marseille have made an offer.}

Ornstein like a lot of “journalists” lives by likes. If he shares no information then he dies on the vine. This bit of info is such a nothing burger. If we sign a six he says “look at me, I have all the most delicious content” and all the e-reds will share his posts and drop memes about him “clearing Romano” or some such bilge. If we don’t sign anyone he says “they tried, couldn’t do the deal now, stay on the hook though because in January who knows” and the e-reds all go on an FSGOut rant until school starts again.
It’s his grift, that’s the top and bottom of it.
7.) 06 Aug 2024 11:51:37
Thanks Ed!
8.) 06 Aug 2024 12:30:08
didnt Ezequiel Fernandez just join Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah.
So can cross that off the list.
9.) 06 Aug 2024 14:57:03
Why0why, David Ornstein is extremely reliable oldschool style journalist. He is nothing like Romano and reports football news for the Athletic not for 'likes. he's always been very reliable for london based clubs and more recent years his Liverpool news has been spot on. Maybe he has been given information that Liverpool are actively in the process of signing a player and isn't allowed to divulge the name till the process is done.
10.) 06 Aug 2024 16:15:56
Agree Alex, Ornstein isn’t there for clicks and the bit about us looking for a specialist number 6 was in The Athletic (which also states that “…information found within this article has been gathered according to The Athletic’s sourcing guidelines. Unless stated, our reporters have spoken to more than one person briefed on each deal before offering the clubs involved the opportunity to comment. Those responses, where they were given, have been included in the Transfer DealSheet”), if you use 12ft. io you can read it without the paywall, this wasn’t just a random Twitter comment by the likes of Romano, that fat kid from Bolton or the KFC employee, it’s from a legitimate journalist who does appear to have a modicum of integrity (unusually for one of them), I’d say the fact that Ed002 has given us a name suggests there’s mileage in this as that’s two reliable sources.
11.) 06 Aug 2024 17:18:46
Poor old Endo. He owned City and CFC's MF last season.
He's worth 25m+ IMO.
{Ed025's Note - Endo is a decent player Vango, but your not winning major trophies with him as your only DM mate im afraid..
12.) 06 Aug 2024 18:37:37
Why0why, my point exactly. The guy (Ornstein) essentially said what anyone of us could have said on this forum as banter and many of us would have laughed at such a statement. It would have been better if he said nothing at all, personally.
28 Jul 2024 12:38:15
Hi Ed,
Just wondering if any change with SVD in the last week or so.
I recall you said he was miffed at the club as he felt they were pricing him out of a move. Which he repeated again in an interview yesterday, but also stated a transfer is difficult due to that.
Also, after the betis game he seemed in high spirits and said the main thing for him is game time and if he could get that at Liverpool it would be the dream.
Appreciate your time, as always.
{Ed002's Note - No, there is no change.}
1.) 28 Jul 2024 14:38:33
Lad deserves a chance in my book. If he was full time at Mainz he'd likely be one people on here would be clamouring for us to sign.
2.) 28 Jul 2024 16:28:31
There is no queue to sign him for a decent fee. It’s Nat Phillips all over again.
3.) 28 Jul 2024 15:53:16
Agree Westwood.
Thanks Ed!
4.) 28 Jul 2024 19:13:15
In fairness Mark there is a queue for him, PSV, Mainz, Dortmund, Schalke, Wolfsburg are all interested. The lad is talented and was one of the best defenders in Germany last year and one of the best young defenders in Europe. We’d be daft not to give him his chance.
5.) 28 Jul 2024 20:51:46
I hope you’re joking VV. None of those clubs want to pay £20m for him.
I can only imagine if he has to play some PL games with Konate as his cb partner. We should be aiming to win the PL and CL not playing Schalke or Wolfsburg in the conference league.
6.) 28 Jul 2024 21:43:41
Neither Wolfsburg nor Schalke are in the conference league. Embarrassing.
7.) 28 Jul 2024 22:30:47
Mark, give the lad a chance. He was at least as good and if not better than plenty of other centre backs we’ve been linked with last season (Hincapie, Pacho, Simaken) . there's plenty to like about the lad, he’s quick, mobile and very good in the air, in fact he’s very dominant in the air which if you paired him with Van Dijk would mean no one would win a challenge at a corner or free kick!
8.) 29 Jul 2024 00:05:46
SVB is a good example of why signing players isn’t a simple task. And what I mean by that is - we’ve obviously lost Matip which in theory could be a space opened up for SVB. But at his age and stage, he rightly wants to be playing so may not be the best fit as our 5th choice CB as convenient as it’d be for us.
So if we do manage to sell SVB and we are buying a to replace him and Matip, we’re in that same spot where the player we bring in has to really fit the particular need relative to where they sit in the pecking order. Arguably we could just go and buy a bona fide starting replacement to partner VVD. But then what about Quansah and Konate? Understand the narrative around Konate but in terms of the squad it doesn’t change that I imagine players don’t want to just go to clubs where they’re stockpiled with players. And the if we’re bringing in a player we’ll be mindful of our current players and the investment we’ve made into them.
9.) 29 Jul 2024 07:43:27
He could well be 4th choice ahead of Gomez at CB Faith.
10.) 29 Jul 2024 08:14:56
Victor - you cleary don’t watch enough of the games live to get it.
11.) 29 Jul 2024 08:59:06
I would say that the club have been monitoring SvdB since before we signed him, some years ago. It’s not like the club don’t have an insight into his potential and performances. The two things that have changed are the arrival of Slot and SvdB’s insistence that he wants to leave. I don’t think he will start in front of VVD, Quansah or Konate (and probably Joey G), so, if it were me and there are buyers, I’d let him go.
12.) 29 Jul 2024 09:14:03
His reading of the play against Betis was spot on - better than any of our other CB options (imo and except maybe Virg). He was never in any defensive danger because he was consistently getting to the ball ahead of their forwards. Him and Quansah looked really solid as a pairing and in a way it was a shame that we were so dominant because we didn't get to see him do much defending.
15 Jul 2024 18:24:07
Ed002,
Mo Simikan was a name mentioned today.
Are you aware of interest?
Thank you.
{Ed002's Note - Mo Simakan (CB/RB) Versatile and an option for Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs - but not first choice for any. RBL will not want to sell.}
1.) 16 Jul 2024 09:48:15
Top man. Thank you Ed.
2.) 16 Jul 2024 09:52:53
We need a LCB and a long term VVD solution.
3.) 16 Jul 2024 09:48:15
Too man. Thank you Ed.
20 Apr 2024 11:16:19
Ed002,
Just wondering if you are aware of any interest in Alan Varela? Or if any contact has been made to Porto?
Thanks in advance.
{Ed002's Note - Alan Varela (DM) Barcelona may offer a profit to Porto and a player in exchange but will not meet his buy out clause. Atletico and PSG has a declared interest. An option for Manchester City to replace Phillips, but not first choice although they have spoken with Porto. Bayern Munich, Liverpool or Chelsea may provide an option having sent scouts but there is no declared interest. Dortmund will not match his buy out clause. Porto has no interest in selling the player who only joined them in the summer of 2023 unless someone offered his buy out clause in a single payment, then the player will be consulted.}
25 Mar 2024 13:47:46
Ed002,
Just wondering if you know of any updates on the manager search over the last few weeks?
Thanks!
{Ed002's Note - The situation remains largely the same as I understand. Alonso remains first choice but there is interest from Bayern Munich which might be more attractive and asuming he wins the league, then I think it will be tough for him to lead som he has the option to stay and wait for the Real Madrid job. Manchester United may offer Amorin an option - another option may be Liverpool, but not first choice - but I think they will move for him if Alonso does not join. If needs force the situation and given the likely link between the club and Sporting, Chelsea may start pushing. Then of course Roberto de Zerbi. Brighton would fight to keep him but another who will certainly be discussed by Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United with Jim Ratcliffe having an interest in him. A significant issue exists in the cost of Brighton releasing him. Deco has de Zerbi as his preferred option which he has shared with Yuste and Laporte but it will not be Deco's decision. Not top of Chelsea's list, but on the list.}
1.) 25 Mar 2024 16:43:27
Top class knowledge Ed, as always, thanks!
May I Ask,
Where do you get all your reliable info and contacts. Were you a scout?
{Ed002's Note - No I was never a scout Joey.}
2.) 25 Mar 2024 17:38:36
Dib dib.
3.) 25 Mar 2024 17:02:32
Hi Ed02. Just come back to this site. Are you able to say who would likely cost us the most to sign one of 3 managers suggested? I'm reading all of them have high release clauses?
{Ed002's Note - Alonso would cost the most but there is no termination clause that is relevant this summer - Leverkusen will ask for €30M and accept €25M.}
4.) 26 Mar 2024 00:01:42
Thanks for the post, Ed. Sorry to bother you, but one question: when you say "another option may be Liverpool, but not first choice, " do you mean that Liverpool isn't Amorim's first choice or he isn't ours? I'd hate to see any promising manager go to United, let alone one I'd like to have here!
Also, who in their right mind would want to manage Chelsea in their current shape?
{Ed002's Note - Alonso is first choice for Liverpool. There is plenty of interest in Amorim.}
5.) 26 Mar 2024 09:49:10
Curious to know why Bayern would be more attractive than Liverpool to Alonso, or any other ambitious young coach? The club, the stadium, the current playing squad, the training facilities and the academy are all in great shape for any new coaching team to inherit. Other than being enamoured with Bavarian lifestyle, is there really much difference between the two?
{Ed002's Note - Bayern Munich have an astonishing stadium and a junior and youth set up which has been hugely successful. They have a scouting network in Bavaria that is exceptional and a world-wide scouting network that only perhaps three sides have bettered. They have a work ethic that runs through the club. Their recruitment process is far better than most. Liverpool's summer recruitment may be over-influenced by the departing manager which will be a concern to any new manager.}
6.) 26 Mar 2024 10:51:58
Thanks, Ed. Interesting perspective. Out of interest, where do you think Liverpool ranks in the world-wide scouting network league?
I am surprised to hear that Klopp may have influence on this summer's business. I had naively thought with Edwards plugging back into the existing Spearman/ Fallows/ Hunter machinery, it would be able to operate without too much of Klopp's input, other than gathering his feedback on existing playing staff.
{Ed002's Note - OKish but they focus on England and Wales with perhaps 10 in place then one for Ireland and Scotland. In Europe there are four perhaps and I think now three covering Argentina and Brazil. They have taken back Sven Dworaczek recently to cover just Germany - which is a good thing. Some are ex-players and Liverpool, like many clubs use specialist scouts as needed. All of this comes under Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter.
In terms of Klopp, Hunter and Fallows will have been involved in all of the discussions about players with Klopp and the scouts - so that list remains valid. Edwards will not be in a position to change that. An early decision on a new manager/coach may be one thing that will change that - but right now the likes of Leroy Sane are still on the list of potential targets - and Sane will be available with a bit of a clear out coming in Munich.}
7.) 26 Mar 2024 12:54:26
Cheers Ed. Very interesting.
8.) 26 Mar 2024 13:44:53
Great questions Former flypelican and unreal info in the answers from Ed002. That was very very interesting reading.
Thanks to you both.
9.) 26 Mar 2024 16:31:48
Whilst Bayern might have a good stadium ( and I have been to the Alliance to watch Liverpool v Bayern ) the redevelopment at Anfield isn’t far off, especially when it comes to hospitality in the main stand. And whilst they may have a decent scouting network,
Bayern Munich has been known to pilfer top, in-prime talent from Borussia Dortmund over the years….
For me, a big influence for Alonso would be how settled the family is in Germany, schools etc etc.
10.) 26 Mar 2024 17:10:29
Personally I don't see the purpose of conquering Germany with a smaller club in Bayer Leverkusen and then jumping ship to Bayern just to do it all over again. It's like completing a video game on hard mode and then playing again on easy mode.
11.) 26 Mar 2024 19:27:25
Xabi Alonso could end up anywhere. Us, Munich or staying at Bayer Leverkusen.
But to me what does he gain exactly by winning the league with Munich. And that’s me removing myself as Liverpool supporter from the equation. I would find it a bizarre career choice, whereas others might see it differently. Each to their own I guess ?♂️.
12.) 26 Mar 2024 19:41:08
If Xabi wins the league this year then the next step for him is Champions League. Id reckon his chances of winning that at Bayern are much better than at Bayer. And he would know German league pretty well by now so that would make the job easier.
13.) 26 Mar 2024 20:00:50
It’s why Ed02 is priceless because the information they kindly give us we would never get anywhere else. Thanks Ed02 and your comments are always read with interest by this poster anyway.
14.) 26 Mar 2024 23:28:40
I’m surprised Bayern would be seen as more attractive if he wins the league. I would have thought winning it with Leverkusen would be job done in Germany.
15.) 27 Mar 2024 03:45:42
read an article today that reckoned that RM are very much front runners. When they extended Ancelotti's contract, it "coincidentally" lined up with when Xabis new contract at Bayer expires. And apparently Bayer renewed Xabis contract when it looked like ancellotti was going to leave RM last year.
16.) 27 Mar 2024 18:08:17
I personally think Xabi is going to stay at BL for another season. Play, and experience, Champions league football with them, then see who us available (Real Madrid? ) in the summer. I also think that would be best for him as well. (Not Madrid, but to gain experience)

Sorry Ed,
I may have asked this before.
Hopefully you can remind me.
What is Varela’s release clause?
{Ed002's Note - €70M according to the TMS.}

Thanks Ed!

Agree Westwood.
Thanks Ed!
25 Jul 2024 10:18:22
Now they’ve been settled Ed do you foresee Saudi clubs moving for anymore of our players?
Diaz perhaps, with it unlikely he gets the move to Spain he wants.
Thanks in advance.
{Ed002's Note - Tgere is interest in Salah and Alisson. May be one of the few options open to Diaz.}
