one of my not so guilty pleasures in life is watching old videos of Zidane in full flight with French commentators. When Im not marvelling at the skill, Im in hysterics at the "ooh la la" and "bop bop bop" in the background. The french are way better at commenting than the average british pundit.

Zidane is hands down my favourite player ever. Just loved his skill. I hold him up there with the best of the best.

2.) 04 Apr 2024 11:44:29
Unfortunately he may get remembered more for the headbutt than his actual ability even though he was a fantastic player.

3.) 04 Apr 2024 12:12:36
That headbutt was beautiful also Piffmunda.

4.) 04 Apr 2024 12:31:03
I always really enjoyed watching Ronaldinho, Totti and Del Piero on the old school ITV European nights growing up. Something magical about old school football. I do genuinely think the modern teams would tactically and athletically roll them over with ease, but the beautiful side of the game peaked in 1990-2010 I reckon.

5.) 04 Apr 2024 13:03:32
Zidane was a beautiful player to watch but I always thought he didn’t play his best nor was most effective at Real. A bit of a, with that much ability, surely he could have been more effectual overall? (Not withstanding he had outstanding moments like his volley to win the CL against BL, but wasn’t quite consistent in the big games I felt)

There was also the issue with his boots having Velcro like material that was later banned? Not sure if he could control just as well if he didn’t had those. I’m sure he was already excellent but having those probably helped that little bit more?

6.) 04 Apr 2024 13:52:39
Zidane was a truly great player indeed BUT I totally watched the great Portuguese playmaker Rui Cossta play. El Maetro was classical music in motion. A true legend of the beautiful game.

7.) 04 Apr 2024 16:39:04
Ronaldinho and then Jay-Jay Okocha for me. Both played with a smile on their face and represented proper entertainment. Something worth spending your money to watch rather than the more robotic players we tend to produce nowadays.

8.) 04 Apr 2024 16:43:17
@sgynwa, Zidane was a vile thug on the pitch as well and that plagued him through out his career. Headbutts was his preferred vile act/ mode of operation. Had been doing that since his Bordeux days where in one game I watched in the 93/ 94 season, he blatantly head-butted a young Marcel Desailly of Marseille and was sent off on the spot.

Stumped on Saudi Arabia's Fuad Amin's back in the '98 WC and got a 2 game ban. Headbutted a Hamburg player in the CL in 00/ 01 season which eventually cost him the Balon D'Or to Luis Figo.

Ironic that his final game ended with a red card off you guessed it, a brutal headbutt on Materazzi in the WC final in '06. Great player BUT an absolute thug, as well.

Ahhh, Kennedale Gleesh. What a player.

2.) 02 Jun 2023 10:58:27
I remember my best buddy being a Celtic supporter and he idolised Dalglish (still does) . He was going to give me a slap because we signed him!

Any idea how accurate this ESPN article on VAR decision making is?

If you get a chance check out the u23 match against Arsenal. Glatzel did a lovely assist and then surrounded by 4 defenders in the box, managed to glide past them and score. Clearly been watching Salah.

1.) 29 Oct 2021 00:10:40
I'd love to see Glatzel succeed after the bad run he's had with injuries.

2.) 29 Oct 2021 04:28:36
Honestly I'd recall Glatzel for December and January like we did with Nat Phillips a couple of Januarys ago. Or recall him permanently as he's not been playing that much for Tranmere.

I'm just incredibly worried about our attacking options this January with Mane and Salah at the Afcon. Plus Elliott, who could have covered right wing, will still be injured. We need as many bodies we can get. I think new faces coming in to help cover is unrealistic as they would need time to adjust to the team and that's even before you take into account transfer negotiations.

3.) 29 Oct 2021 12:10:31
Was that u23 game before he got injured? He’s hardly been pulling up any trees at Tranmere, so either he’s not getting a chance or he hasn’t got back to where he was before injury.

4.) 29 Oct 2021 21:51:45
Got his first Tranmere goal recently.

I have an interest in improving my coaching so have been watching some vids on youtube that analyse various games. One of them was on the recent city match. He made the point that much of the midfields problems were due to the front 3 not pressing very well. In particular that Salah and mane were pressing as if they had Firmino alongside them (who is much better than Jota at hiding the option to the defensive midfielder) . So Ederson was able to pick out not only the fullbacks but also Rodri which meant in turn that our midfield were not only easy to bypass but also in turn overload our fullbacks. Im now going to go back and rewatch the game if this changes my mind.

1.) 05 Oct 2021 08:15:41
I thought similar when I watched the game, Jota cannot press or read the game like Firmino does. I do not want to criticize Jota too much, that position is very difficult to play and you have to be clever knowing when to press or to stand off. It is easy to waste energy and look like you are running around like a headless chicken. Maybe he need more time.

For me, I cannot understand why Firmino didn't start (maybe fitness) but I am not the manager and I am sure he knows much better than I do.

{Ed0666's Note - Jota needs to play wide as he’s more effective there. Simple! I was surprised he kept his place also as he has been mediocre of late.,

2.) 05 Oct 2021 10:35:15
And Firmino can't keep hold of the ball and lacks pace. We could do with another Salah up top and another VVD and Trent at the back.
City need another striker, United a holding midfielder and I need some more bottles of McEwan's Champion ale but life's not fair.

3.) 05 Oct 2021 11:36:39
It's games like this where all those who want Firmino dropped for a "regular no 9" should start to realise exactly what Bobby gives the team.
Jota's goals are invaluable, but his overall contribution to the team up front just doesn't compare to what Bobby gives them.

4.) 06 Oct 2021 18:33:58
Flash, there’s a reason Bobbie has started the most games since Klopp arrived and converted him to a false 9. Jota is not in his league yet when it comes to doing what the team needs and playing that unique role. Jota is a goal scorer however if it was only about goals, Bobbie would have been sold ages ago. Just my opinion.

read an article today that reckoned that RM are very much front runners. When they extended Ancelotti's contract, it "coincidentally" lined up with when Xabis new contract at Bayer expires. And apparently Bayer renewed Xabis contract when it looked like ancellotti was going to leave RM last year.

If Xabi wins the league this year then the next step for him is Champions League. Id reckon his chances of winning that at Bayern are much better than at Bayer. And he would know German league pretty well by now so that would make the job easier.

I reckon Zidane might be a good option. You just know if Pep G gets in his way, that he's just a headbutt away from clearing out the tech area.

he might be good but pretty certain 400k a week will cause issues in a team where only salah is on anything approaching that.

Keitas first game for us (against i think west ham), he absolutely dominated it. Tore them to shreds. Constantly wriggling past players and causing panic as he drove at the defence. I thought we might have a real player on our hands. But it was pretty much downhill from there on.

He started the season gangbusters but then Klopp asked him to tweak his game to help the team more - it resulted him being less "flashy" but doing more graft. Having said that i do think he has come back a bit rusty.

andrew jennings is one of the best journos i've ever read. All he cared about was finding the truth. If he was alive today he would be absolutely nailing Infantino to the wall. Can just imagine what he wouldve made of Cefarin screwing up the Champions league in Paris not to mention how he tried to manipulate the investigation into Mancity.

You guys should watch Klopps interview. Have to go back to his comments on Tierney to find another interview where he was so direct about a ref.

Pep certainly has had a legup (even at Barcelona he inherited a club with Messi Xavi and Iniesta all emerging) but i don't think the reason he wouldn't go to a club in trouble is because he is a flat track bully. To be fair to him, i think he is more about the search for perfection and so would prefer a club that will give him the money to try and find that. Its prob the reason why he constantly has to fight the urge to tinker and why his players tend to burn out or struggle in big matches.
