Ruben Amorim's hopes of a move to Liverpool may not have been ended in the way fans think.

The Sporting Lisbon boss was thought to be keen on a switch to the Anfield-based outfit, with Jurgen Klopp set to call time on a nine-year stay in Merseyside.

It has now emerged that the Primeira Liga side's president, Francisco Varandas, may have played a starring role in blocking his head coach's departure.

"I found out why the transfer of Ruben Amorim (Sporting Lisbon) to Liverpool FC fell through in the end. Everything had already been negotiated and the contracts were ready to be signed, " Christian Falk shared in his exclusive Fact Files column with CaughtOffside.

"Sporting Lisbon would have received a transfer fee of €10m, as had been agreed. However, the president of Sporting Lisbon, Francisco Varandas, is said to have changed his mind at the last minute. Suddenly, the president demanded €20m and spontaneously doubled the price.

"Liverpool did not want to play the game. That was bitter for Amorim, who would have loved to become Jürgen Klopp's successor. "

The Leões have since been crowned league champions for the second time under the 39-year-old's watch.

Ed's snippets on Sporting being pi**ed at LFC brought home by this move.
This makes Slot the second choice?

Hello Eds, I am a long time viewer and have only posted the once and it turned out to be true I posted about a player joining and knowing about it quite early due to brother working security on the house and working with the club to provide aspects of security.

He has been asked to do the security on two houses one of which is for

William Pachao (sp) I have no idea who he is just that he plays for frankfurt I couldn't tell you how he plays or anything like that just the name that's been mentioned I have never heard of him as I barely watch other leagues.

The second house is a potential house but want the security filled out he's of spanish descent so maybe we are finally getting David Villa! hahaha.

If I get more info of confirmation I will post it but this is what I have had so passing it on.

Excellent rumour - real old school. Could you mention Dani Olmo to your mate and see what response you get?

 6

17 May 2024 12:09:04
William Pacho has been mentioned by Fabrizio and other top tier journos, including Ed002, that one seems almost nailed on.

Interested who the fella of Spanish descent is. Guess we will wait and see, as it’s only potential perhaps it’s not as advanced as Pacho?

Great rumour though, hopefully you can clarify on the Spaniard!

Cheers.

Nicholas Williams from Bilbao, lol :)
Seriously, Liverpool scouts were spotted at the Athletic stadium.

17 May 2024 14:48:41
Just wanted to say that Ed002 dropped Pacho's name on here first and lo and behold, a few hours later, Fabrizio Romano "broke" the news that we're interested in him. Almost seems like Ed002 is one of his sources 👀.

 4

17 May 2024 17:18:14
If it’s Olmo I’m taking it he’s the sicknote to replace Thiago in the treatment room. A like for like Spaniard with a penchant for injury.

"Just wanted to say that Ed002 dropped Pacho's name on here first and lo and behold, a few hours later, Fabrizio Romano "broke" the news that we're interested in him. Almost seems like Ed002 is one of his sources"

Could it be that Ed002 is really is really Fabrizio Romano?

The next Ecuadorian man mountain for 30m. He has not played much first class football, but 30m is low risk.

Confirmed that Matip is leaving the club. Sad to see him leave but it is the right time.

Joel will always be a Liverpool legend, part of the journey where we won every trophy. YNWA Joel.

 11

17 May 2024 10:27:55
He was a good player for the team, legend is a a bit strong imo.

 8

17 May 2024 10:41:57
At his very best he was decent. Thank you and goodbye
Up the pool.

 0

17 May 2024 12:19:34
For his output, he earned way too much money from the club seemed to have the life of Riley and only play if he could be bothered. Decent player when he felt like it.

 0

17 May 2024 13:12:15
He was a good player on his day but will always be remembered for his injuries. His wages are huge so good to get him off the books I guess.

 1

17 May 2024 13:29:39
Good player for me, only issues were the injurys! Best of luck Joel.

 3

17 May 2024 14:50:39
MK mentioned the term "cult hero" on the other page and I agree that it suits Matip better than "legend". A good player on his day and definitely gave his all for us throughout his time here even though it was blighted by injuries. Definitely one of the best free transfers we have ever made, almost up there with Milner.

 3

17 May 2024 15:08:09
Was a good but not great player. Injured too often unfortunately. A good servant.

 1

17 May 2024 16:01:07
Cult hero fits better than legend. It's more what I meant. There are only about 5 actual legends for me at Liverpool in the history of the team.

 1

17 May 2024 16:25:05
For me he was best cb at the club rated him higher than virg . Reminded me of Hansen sometimes the way he would carry the ball out from the back. Also I Think the wheels wouldn’t have fell off if he had not got injured this season. He had an assist in the champions league final and did he also get the equaliser v city in charity shied? He is up there for me and moaning about wages, what’s that about? He earned the lucrative contract winning trophies. Love the guy gave me some great moments, brilliant player for us when he was available good luck Joel lad YNWA.

 3

17 May 2024 16:47:40
Good when fit but made of glass.

 1

17 May 2024 17:19:16
Good player, did his bit, pity he was made of crisps. Good free transfer whichever way you put it.

 3

17 May 2024 18:39:01
Best wishes to him. Wasn't he a regular for our prem win season? ⚽️✌.

16 May 2024 22:13:00
Hi Eds. Have we bid for Rodrigo (sp) from Real Madrid? Thanks.

 0

{Ed002's Note - there is certainly interest as I have explained.}

 5

17 May 2024 09:15:02
Surely it can’t happen!
I mean we’re a big club.
But it’s Real Madrid and he seems happy there.
Do you know if he would be open to a move here Ed?

 1

{Ed002's Note - Rodrygo Goes (F/S) Real Madrid have no interest in selling but PSG did ask for him as part of a deal for Mbappe before he let his contract run down. Many Liverpool fans think there is some sort of pre-contract to join them, but of course there isn't. He agreed a new contract at Real Madrid and won't be moving anytime soon unless something like €120M offer is made or he could perhaps be offered to Liverpool in an exchange for Alexander Arnold which Real Madrid maybe open to - as it will bring in some cash as well. Manchester United sent scouts. There will always be interest in him and with Mbappe arriving he may need to make his way back to the RW position - although the wide positions are areas where Real Madrid want more depth. Will likely stay.}

Ed002 do you know if Liverpool have a first choice to replace Salah? Assumed it was Sane but I’d also assume that will change with Klopp leaving.

Neto, Summerville and Olmo getting the most noise in the media but they’re not enthralling options.

Yesterday I did see a few reports of Amoura who you have mentioned, but I guess he’d be more likely to replace Diaz or Nunez.

 2

{Ed002's Note - Firstly, Olmo would not be a Salah replacement. I don't know who will now become first choice but the options you mention do have merit.

Dani Olmo (AM/W) Signed a new contract but could still be sold this summer if a significant offer were to be made. Atletico, Spurs, Manchester City and Barcelona were interested, although Barcelona have preferred options and need to sell to buy or horse trade - they may be the only interested side left. Chelsea considered him as a Mason Mount replacement last summer but have preferred options now. Manchester United or Liverpool may offer a wildcard option. Bayern Munich interest has gone.

Crysencio Summerville (RW/LW) Leeds have no interest in selling but his agent is looking for a step up and speaking with clubs about him - he has certainly approached Chelsea and Spurs and I suspect others. Bayer Leverkusen have spoken directly with Leeds. Agent is close to Aston Villa and the City Football Group. Any move will likely depend on promotion being gained or not. Leeds will look for a new contract. I am not aware of Liverpool making any approach yet but I understand Slot is a fan of the youngster from advice given to him by Sipke Hulshoff who knows him well. If he were to replace Salah, there has to be an element of risk but he may become first choice.

Pedro Neto (RW/LW) Versatile and looking to move on. Agent has been approached by Manchester United, who will need an Antony replacement, and Arsenal. Agent has also approached Liverpool who will likely need a replacement for Salah - and Neto fits the bill of a lift footed RW although is not first choice for Klopp, he could may become so once Klopp has gone. It is unclear why Arsenal are so keen and they clearly have other priorities, but they are. Juventus fear losing young left-footed RW in Matias Soule and may look to Neto. Spurs are another side who may look to Neto but a move seems unlikely - as does a move to Newcastle who are a less attractive option. Prior interest of Manchester City has gone with the emergance of Phil Foden. Maybe wanted in the Middle East which would push his value up. I would expect Wolves to now look for perhaps more than £50M for him but it would likely take the desire of the player to move.

I would also not discount Bakayoko.

Johan Bakayoko (RW) Cost effective solution for PSG but may stuggle to be a starter so will not be interested in a move just to be cover. Liverpool have him on the list of potential Salah replacements but have not made any approach to PSV at this time - but he is certainly an option. Spurs and Brentford offer realistic options. Chelsea and Manchester City have sent scouts but have preferred options. Borussia Dortmund see him as an option to Sancho.

Out of these, I think Summerville could possibly be the best option to replace Salah's goals.}

Thanks Ed!

Ed002, really appreciate your time!

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

 2

17 May 2024 13:11:43
Edd002 do you know if trent is interested in going to Madrid?

 0

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea. Sorry.}

 0

17 May 2024 14:53:08
Wow Mizer. You asked the same question twice on two separate threads. You must really want Trent gone. With fans like this, who needs enemies eh?

 0

17 May 2024 17:21:08
Neto and Olmo are both sick notes with no end product. We’d be daft to even consider that pair.

 0

{Ed025's Note - you are getting very cynical in your old age Victor, your last name is not Meldrew is it mate?.. :)

 0

17 May 2024 18:39:26
Just calling it as it is Ed025. It’d be like we’d learnt nothing from signing Thiago.

 0

{Ed025's Note - i know that mate.. :)

16 May 2024 21:30:29
Evening ed002 .

Just a quick question, did liverpool table bid for Aurelien Tchouameni whilst at Monaco? And did we agree personal terms?

On another note, I think Rice has been a very good acquisition for Arsenal, were we ever interested in the player?

Cheers
Drogie.

 0

{Ed002's Note - No, he was tapped up by Klopp who flew down to meeting. The government blocked a move to Chelsea. Regardless of being an ex-Chelsea player, Liverpool had no interest in Rice.}

 3

17 May 2024 07:34:56
Rice would've been perfect for us, I've thought that for years.

 1

17 May 2024 14:54:29
Agreed Digger. He would have been perfect for us. Arsenal are fortunate to have landed him and is definitely a key reason why they are still in the title race going into the final game of the season.

 1

17 May 2024 15:42:27
Ed do you think all the tapping up will stop now with Klopp gone or is it a club problem.

 0

{Ed002's Note - It will stope hopefully.}

16 May 2024 12:15:52
Just passing on a handful of rumours doing the rounds today that seem to be quite realistic.

1) Crysencio Summerville (RW/ LW) . Ed002 has said he's not aware of any interest from Liverpool only a month ago but things change fast in football and Ben Jacobs is now suggesting he could become a top target if Diaz were to leave.

2) Dani Olmo (LW/ AM/ RW) . Nothing in the search function about him. A few reports today are saying that Slot has personally asked the club to sign him this summer. Good player who's done well on the RW this season. Worrying injury record though.

3) Teun Koopmeiners (CB/ DM/ CM/ AM) . Rumour is that Atalanta are hoping the interest of both Liverpool and Juventus will drive up his price. Knows Slot-ball already and has all the attributes to succeed in the Prem. Ed002 has confirmed we have interest.

 10

16 May 2024 12:54:11
"Worrying injury record though. "

Why do I think that won't put us off? 😅.

 9

16 May 2024 13:30:57
Koopmeiners reminds me of Granit Xhaka or Ruben Neves. Not convinced that is what we need but if we are going to continue this obsession with building up from deep, then maybe. Not a fan of the style or the player myself.

 3

16 May 2024 14:04:26
It is very worrying as well Adam. Two knee injuries in 2 years and missed half of this season with a badly dislocated shoulder. I really like him as a player but surely we can’t be silly enough to add an injury prone player to an already fragile squad.

I really like him FPF. His aggression and physicality combined with such composure and technical quality makes him a nightmare for opposition. Good with both feet as well. I watched Atalanta the other week and they were 1-0 down so they subbed Koopmeiners on and he was more or less playing right wing at times. Ended scoring a 25 yard winner first time on his weaker foot. Some player and one of those rare complete footballers who could play anywhere and still be a pro at the top level.

 3

16 May 2024 15:38:37
MK, I think that's the issue for me. He's not a specialist DM. He's more like Henderson than Fabinho, when it is a Fabinho we need.

 4

16 May 2024 16:16:51
Olmo should be dodged at all costs, more than just slightly concerning injury issues, he’s missed 19 games in 21/ 22, 20 games in 22/ 23 and so far he’s missed 28 games through injury. there's no sensible reason to consider a crock like that. That pattern of injuries is only going one way. Definitely not worth the risk. Although even without the injuries he is distinctly mediocre.

As for Summerville, Ben Jacob’s knows nothing about Liverpool. Only contacts he had are at Chelsea. If it hasn’t come from Ornstein or Joyce, you can probably disregard it.

 3

16 May 2024 16:58:38
Joyce has also been distanced from the club.

 3

16 May 2024 17:45:23
Still gets things unerringly right though, Drogie.

 0

16 May 2024 18:42:28
A fit Baj changes everything.

 2

16 May 2024 18:50:58
Thanks for passing on latest MK. Ed002 any ideas about Summervile? Seems a risk and can’t see need for more LW!

 0

{Ed002's Note - Crysencio Summerville (RW/LW) Leeds have no interest in selling but his agent is looking for a step up and speaking with clubs about him - he has certainly approached Chelsea and Spurs and I suspect others.  2

16 May 2024 22:19:24
Leverkusken would be a good move for him. Can’t say he’d be ready for a Liverpool or Chelsea and definitely not as a Salah replacement! Thank you Ed002 hope you and yours are well mate.

 1

15 May 2024 18:36:40
Hi Ed02

Thanks as ever for all the updates, always appreciated by me. May I ask who your top three picks for realistic signings for Liverpool would be this summer.

Thanks
Hessle Red.

 4

{Ed002's Note - An interesting question. Perhaps:
Alex McCarthy (G) Out of contract at Southampton in the summer and accepts he will not be first choice any longer. Bournemouth, Newcastle and Liverpool have both considered him, with Liverpool having prior interest and likely needing two goalkeepers this summer - unless they opt to promote Vitezslav Jaros, then they only need a third choice.

Willian Pacho (CB) Eintracht Frankfurt have told Real Madrid the left footed CB is not for sale. Liverpool and Arsenal have sent scouts and I suspect Liverpool will look to an offer.

Teun Koopmeiners (DM/CM) Atalanta are reluctant to sell but his agent wants the player to be playing regularly in the Champions League with Newcastle, Juventus and Napoli having declared interest. Interest of Milan shifted to Tijjani Reijnders so they can be discounted. Liverpool offer a good option for the player but will be reluctant to meet the asking price - but they are very keen. Approaches were been made to Arsenal, Manchester United, Spurs and Chelsea although none have spoken with Atalanta and all have other targets for now but cannot be discounted. Brighton and Aston Villa interest has gone. Juventus has a creative solution and will push for a summer move knowing that the player wants Juventus move. Marseille have walked away due to the quoted cost although a change of ownership could see a huge shift for them. Atalanta are seeking €60M if pressed to sell and feeling is Liverpool or Juventus will win out.}

 15

16 May 2024 11:33:01
Thanks Ed002, I'd be pretty happy with them, as long as there was also a Salah/ Diaz replacement should they leave! Sounds like the club are looking in the right places which is good news even if we don't pull off the signing of these exact players.

McCarthy would be a decent enough replacement for Adrian as 3rd choice.

Koopmeiners would be a superb signing. One of the best midfielders in Europe in my opinion. Can play CB, DM, CM and AM. Such a versatile player with virtually no glaring weaknesses. Reminds me of Rice and Rodri.

Pacho mainly plays left side of a back 3 but Slot's Feyenoord team does become a back 3 when one of the full backs inverts into midfield. Definitely a good player and maybe could see him lining up as a left back but then in practice effectively being in a back 3 with Virgil and Quansah.

 2

{Ed002's Note - We been through the options for Salah. If Luiz were to depart then perhaps:

Mohamed Amoura (S/LW/AM) Versatile Algerian who Lille see as a Jonathan David replacement. Liverpool have sent scouts and if Luis Diaz departs he will be seen as a good option to replace him. Marseille and Wolfsburg have also spoken with Union Saint Gilloise. Scouts have been sent by West Ham and Newcastle. A wildcard might be Brighton.
Omar Marmoush (S/W) Eintracht Frankfurt have no intention of selling the player who only joined last summer. His agent says there is interest from Newcastle, Spurs and possibly still Brentford. Apparently noted by Liverpool scouts when watching another player.
Maximilian Beier (S/F/W) Opted for a contract extension at Hoffenheim over a move to Brentford after a loan at Hannover. Everton, Liverpool and Luton have sent scouts to watch the player. May be available in the summer.}

 10

16 May 2024 12:51:12
McCarthy makes sense as a 3rd choice and doesn’t waste a non HG space. can't see us getting any more joy out of Frankfurt than Madrid did. Seems like a waste of time asking. Not massively convinced Koopmeiners is the answer as I think we need a specialist at number 6 not a versatile midfielder as that feels like the compromise of playing Henderson there. The only caveat is that he’s played there under Slot, and managed similar defensive stats as Rodri and Rice, albeit in a weaker league. So I’ll keep an open mind.,

 2

16 May 2024 13:14:04
Ed002 in relation to Koopmeiners do you think he is too similar to what we already have as he has always struck me as a very similar player to Mac Allister? Feels like the need is still to replace Fabinho with that sort of midfielder as the other with the exception of Endo, all feel a lot more capable in the more forward areas.

 0

{Ed002's Note - TK is a very versatile MF player and would be an excellent addition.}

 14

16 May 2024 13:58:21
Legend Ed002 👏🏻.

 6

16 May 2024 14:19:47
My worry with McCarthy is he's 2nd choice to Bazunu who, although he still has a high ceiling and is only 22, has regressed since bursting onto the scene in his teens and is an inferior keeper to Kelleher imo.

 0

{Ed002's Note - McCarthy would be replacing Adrian not CK.}

 6

16 May 2024 14:24:28
Open mind? You’re getting soft VV! 😆.

 3

16 May 2024 15:34:39
I like Pacho, and i like having left footed players on the left side of the pitch. Ed's do you have any concerns over Pacho's duel success rate? Saw Sam Maguire mention this a few backs, and checking bundelsiga stats he's at 14th in the league for duals won. Our very own Sepp is 4th. With how often we're beaten with balls over the top with our high line, would this not be a red flag?

 0

{Ed001's Note - stats like that are bollox, they mean nothing. Jose Enrique had the best stats in the Premier League on duel successes but that was because he was always in the wrong place. It is a waste of time looking at one individual stat and trying to draw a conclusion from it.}

 7

16 May 2024 15:59:09
Does Pacho have any relationship to what the club think of Konate? The mood in the media has really grown sour on Konate, but he really only had a tough month. Seems rash to jump to the conclusion that he isn't good enough. He was stellar previously.

 0

{Ed002's Note - No, it is unrelated.}

 3

16 May 2024 16:08:05
Ed02, many thanks and certainly interesting choices for sure. Let’s see what happens!

 2

16 May 2024 19:08:08
Thanks, Ed02! Appreciate the info as always.

 1

16 May 2024 21:27:45
Only getting around to reading this now. Thanks so much for the info Ed002. Class as always.
