Nathaniel Clyne must be abit worried. First TAA and now Gomez showing brilliant attacking quality as well as good defending.

1.) 27 Aug 2017 16:37:18
Very true king Kenny. I put TAA before Clyne. I think eventually TAA will play further up the pitch and gomez will slip inside to CB but nice to have good options in the fb positions. On the left also. We are always going to concede with our AC/ DC style and I think moreno and mane has been a brilliant partnership so far this year. We've been calling for more signings as LFC fans but I think the club has been very shrewd in the market this year. We only need a CB. plenty of forwards and midfielders, fbs, decent gks, all 3 of them. Keeping coutinio will be key but also. We must keep Can. What a talent. We should offer w/ e it takes. He is sooooo good and getting better. Heading for one of world's best cms.

2.) 27 Aug 2017 16:48:39
Gomez has been excellent. The whole team have been excellent first half. One dodgy moment of goal keeping aside, brilliant so far. even Moreno who i do not rate at all has been good.

Ed002, you keep saying Barcelona will not buy Countinho next summer and that this is effectively his only chance to go. Can you explain why this is? -sorry if I have missed the explanation previously. I couldn't find anything on the search function.

{Ed002's Note - I have said it once as far as I recall. I am not sure where I said "this is effectively his only chance to go" - perhaps you can point that out.}

1.) 09 Aug 2017 22:38:29
Not in so many words. On the rumours page ed002 said he (PC) would need to understand ruling out his chance of moving to Barcelona and that he very much doubted Barcelona would resume interest next summer.

2.) 09 Aug 2017 22:45:16
Basically, Barcelona will want to bring in new faces to offset the loss of Neymar this summer, not next summer, because they're a side that expect to regularly win their domestic league and challenge for the Champions League. They don't do "transition" or "rebuilding" seasons.

So if they can't get Coutinho this season, they'll get someone else, which somewhat diminishes the likelihood of them still needing Coutinho next summer.

3.) 09 Aug 2017 23:03:46
So Barcelona won't buy anyone next summer to replace Iniesta when it is widely reported they want Coutinho to replace him not Neymar? Of course they'll be back for him and if they're not he'll go to Madrid. Either way I'm sure he'll be quite happy.

4.) 09 Aug 2017 23:21:50
Barca are struggling financially.

they're not the force once they were neither have got resources or squad like Madrid.

Whatever money they got from neymar, they would be spending both on neymar replacement and iniesta.

by the way wasn't ED2 who said that, it was macca who said that it's now or never for couts to Barca.

5.) 10 Aug 2017 11:12:54
Coz they will turn their attentions to some other player and they are done on that position. Why would Barcelona wait an year to make Liverpool happy? They want players for this season and not next season!

With these Mbappe rumours seemingly everywhere, could it be a return to the old favourite, the smokescreen? It's been a while, but I love a good smokescreen.

Could it be covering our pursuit of another Monacco player? Or someone else's pursuit of Mbappe? Either way-welcome back to the smokescreen. I hope we see you again soon.

1.) 27 Jun 2017 07:03:40
we have moved from smokescreens to tapping up and releasing news to the press, keep up man. haha.

Anybody else seen this Welsh lad ripping it up for club and county? Think his name is Joe something? Anyway, he looks quality and can't stop scoring. Any chance of Jurgen having a look?

1.) 16 Oct 2016 10:33:53
Pleased for him. Always had a great attitude for us. Good luck to the guy.

2.) 16 Oct 2016 11:28:01
Agreed, Joe was always good around the squad, got on with his job without complaining too much when not being played and seemed to be a good professional. Good luck to him in his future career.

3.) 17 Oct 2016 00:07:54
I have never had anything against the lad. In fact, he had his fair share of good games for us especially vs City where Yaya Toure could never ever deal with him. I'm happy he's tearing it up at Stoke as he deserves it due to his, attitude and work ethic, especially if he's doing it vs Utd every time.

I like Ibe as much as anyone and really want to see him play and fulfill his immense potential, but do people honestly think he played that well last night? He had the chance where he hit the post, which was a chance he created from nothing, so fair play, but other than that what did he do so well? Redknapp was on about how he ran at people and all the SlySports pundits went on about his pace but he virtually never tried to go past oviedo on the outside, even when there was clear space behind him several times. Also, the number of times, with the number different players Ibe miss placed a pass or even a thrown in was scary. Why do people over hype young players every single time? Ibe has every chance of being top quality, but saying he was our best player last night or over hyping how well he played surely can't help him develop. To be fair though, I thought all this about Raheem and look how he's turned out.

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't given the ball enough to judge him. As for saying there was space, there were very few opportunities to run at Oviedo after he tore him to shreds the first couple of times. Everton doubled or trebled up on him as soon as the ball went to him.}

1.) 08 Feb 2015 07:59:01
Even in the second half, it appeared to me that there were a hand full of occasions where Ibe got onto the ball, Oviedo was pushed forward and there was space to knock the ball behind him and run into it, if Ibe really has this blistering pace Sly's pundits wouldn't shut up about.

{Ed001's Note - he barely got the ball in the second half, despite making himself available constantly, so I think you are overegging it mate.}

2.) Think he had 94% pass completion rate so I'm happy enough with that side of his game as quite a few were pass into danger areas.

3.) ED001 is right, after the first few times, the space wasn't there, Besic would come across, leaving Gerrard who he was comfortable with all night, and Jags Narrowed the distance between himself and Oviedo. This created a lot more room in the centre of the park, but we weren't good enough to exploit it.

In the second half Ibe had to play much deeper, I think Lucas goign off really changed our strategy we weren't as ''gung ho'' going forward with Allen there. There were numerous times Ibe was running back covering Can, who I thought played well, but not to his previous standards, he gave away a fair bit of possession. I don't think you can blam Ibe for worrying about his defensive duties

4.) 08 Feb 2015 20:24:03
Welcome to first team football in the Premier League. I remember he set up Coutinho against QPR last season. He had a positive preseason I thought as well, then his time at Birmingham and especially Derby seem to have helped him stride onwards.

He's a great athlete and has an attacking mind, he's only 19 and has a great physical presence, he just needs games in the Premier League to adapt to the pace and standard and I think we have a genuine young gun ready to burst on the scene any moment.

He was very positive in a somewhat negative game yesterday, I was very proud of his performance as a fan. He was very nearly the difference when he cracked the paint off the metal with his shot.

Not sure what some of my fellow reds expect from someone so young and raw. Was his performance positive? Yes, in my eyes. Will he get better? Given the chance, no doubt about it. Let the lad grow into the shirt and build understandings and partnerships around him. I think is the level headed approach.

5.) Ibe had a decent game and atimes, ws the only one trying to make forard runs in the Everton`s territory. He`s learning and will only get better with proper coaching and management.

I’m with Den 82 here, Karius isn’t really to blame for their first yesterday. Gomez gets horribly out of position under a cross field ball and for the third time in recent games (Arsenal and Everton) it led to a goal. This seems to be a real weakness in Gomez game which he needs to work on.

Exactly Sandman, all the people suggesting he would be a cheap alternative are deluded. Leicester will ask more from us than Roma etc because we’re in the same league and have just got a massive fee for Couts.

Good shout Mr Dennis, can’t wait for Naby to join next season after a year in Liepzig’s reserves.

Yeah, our last keeper from Spain who wasn’t tall was awful. Bloody Pepe Reina.

Imagine today’s squad with the midfield from 08-09. Gerrard Alonso and Masch behind our current front 3 would be immense.

It may not be a “must win” but it is certainly a “must not lose” even this “early” in the season we cannot afford to lose to spurs and let them get ahead of us. A draw is acceptable, a win is preferable and a defeat would be disappointing and potentially damaging to our top 4 hopes. We need to keep it in our own hands to keep the pressure off and keep it on spurs.

You could tell we weren’t going to score against Swansea after about 15 minutes because we were failing to keep hold of the ball in their half an build any pressure. It was one pass forwards, 3 passes back. To win whose sort of games against a ultra defensive team you have to build pressure in their half, which we were incapable of doing.

Can Holgate be retrospectively punished for the shove? Or because the red saw it and chose not to card him, is this out of the FAs hands?
