Hey Ed’s, I hope you’re all doing great. Quick question as I haven’t seen it mentioned recently, is there any update on Timo Werner and Liverpool? I believe the last time there was an update he was looking at a German club over a move to the PL.
Cheers lads!

{Ed002's Note - The situation remains the same in that RBL and Bayern Munich are still negotiating the price - and I understand remain some distance apart and PSG have their declared interest but have been told to await the outcome of the discussions - but they see Timo Werner as a potential Cavani replacement. In the interim, RBL's new coach has stated that he hopes Werner will sign a new contract and taht he very much wants to work with him next season.

As for Liverpool, it has been reported by the Fat Kid from Bolton that a deal for Werner was agreed with RBL in January – it wasn’t. Someone else (whose name escapes me) has apparently said again recently that the deal with RBL is agreed and it is just the salary deal to be figured out – this is all news to Leipzig who have of course been speaking to Bayern Munich trying to agree a price whiclst trying to get a new contract agreed with the player. There has certainly been interest from Klopp but right now there is no deal in place at all. It is had to see how Werner would fit in unless there is a change of style in the way Liverpool play.}

Fat Kid from Bolton = The Firm BL on Twitter. Claims to be ITK about transfers but is a complete spoofer. When his claims about signings prove untrue, he blames everything from the neighbours cat to the LFC board for it not happening. He’s a nuisance. If you’re looking for news on potential transfers/ interest the club may have in players in and out, Ed002 is boss.

My opinion, which is not informed, is that we’re testinf the water for players should Salah or Mane decide to leave in the summer.
Otherwise I can’t see such a player joining LFC to be a bit part fringe player.

Sometimes it feels like we could be linked to Messi himself and people would still say"cant see him wanting to join to be a bit part player. "

Well it’s true Naby, Messi would struggle for game time 😎.

Messi, Suarez, Coutinho and Dembele. Four players of equal quality (ok Messi a different level) competing for three spots. And even Dombele has 40 games this season.

Thanks for the huge response Ed, really concise explanation - thank you.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

Then Naby you have to ask yourself the question why players join a football club.
I would argue there are 3 main reasons:
1) Money - no problem for LFC
2) Profile - no problem for LFC so long as you’re playing. You may have noticed that Klopp doesn’t really play the squad game, fringe players rarely start a game.
3) Success - this is where currently LFC do not compete. We’ve won one league cup since 2007. So your players are unlikely to stick around at a club that’s won one league cup in 11 years. Most players don’t play at the top for 11 years.

So we need to become a club that wins things to even have a chance of keeping top class players around without regular first team football.

On the verge of consecutive champions league finals and finishing with AT LEAST the 3rd highest points tally in English top flight history. If a player can't see were going to be in the run for every available trophy over the next few years there's something wrong with them.

little Naby it’s about time in my opinion. We need to prove our metal consistently not a few seasons.

It is had to see how Werner would fit in unless there is a change of style in the way Liverpool play

So, ed002, who you think would suit us?

{Ed002's Note - As I have kept saying, Rhian Brewster.}

I'd be happy with Salah, Manè, Bobby, Brewster and a wide player closer in terms of skill to Salah/ Mane than Shaquiri and origi.

Brewster looks like he has great potential. I hope Klopp can manage him well; my biggest concern is that he becomes a Rashford, who in my opinion has incredible ability, but under performs due to the pressures united have placed on him. I’d like to think that Klopp eases him into the team rather than try to make him a star too early.

Rashford has done a lot to prop up a pretty dysfunctional United squad and has also battled through a tight hamstring for part of this year. We'd be very lucky to get that type of player in Brewster.

Klopp seems keen on giving him regular first team minutes soon. Is he ready for that? Might be the ideal cover for the front 3, being able to bring along his development at the next level without pressure on him to carry a large portion of the scoring responsibility.

Yeah you’re right, he’s carrying united which must be a huge pressure at his age. I think we have the most unified team in the EPL so I would hope less pressure would be on Brewster as/ when he plays.

Sorry Naby, you must have misread. Players don’t sign to be rotation players, that’s why no one has more than 11 players.
