Barcola for 100+ million seems like a break the bank game changer fee, is he worth that? can't get in their best team, never played outside France as far as I know and isn't a finisher, so far anyway - sounds v risky.

If I'm breaking the bank for a PSG forward then it's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia all day long, of course why would they sell him but he's the type of player all teams need.

Thought it might be useful to round up the More likely ins and outs based on some of the info on here:

Ins

- Barcola
- Mbaye
- Rayan (possibly dependent on Gakpo)
- Wharton

Outs

- Jones
- Chiesa
- Gakpo

Anything to add/change?

Not sure about you guys, but I'd be keen to hold on to Gakpo, Jones and sign all of the above.

Arsenal's squad depth is scary.

Elliot, Endo and Bajcetic are all available at the right price although Bajcetic may go on loan.

4

19 Aug 2026 17:02:34
I would love that, but it's taken 6 weeks to get 1 in, and a loan can't see 4 more with the time remaining.

4

19 Aug 2026 17:07:03
I think you can safely remove Wharton and Rayan from that list.

19 Aug 2026 17:19:16
If we are to use logic / common sense then, a team cannot have both Macca and Wharton as they are too similar. I don't see Macca leaving now.

1

19 Aug 2026 18:22:05
Wharton definitely is on the list, but I'm fairly sure the rumours about Baleba are false.

Hey, The Fields

Thanks for your info! Regarding Bajcetic - if he was to go on loan, would he sign a new contract first, as I believe he only has a year left on his current one?

Does anyone see the lack of a left-sided CB replacement a potential issue for upcoming season? How much of any issue would that be if, fingers crossed, Virgil does pick up an injury or require rotation through the season? Give his age that must be a consideration now for the manager.

19 Aug 2026 16:50:08
Jacquet mostly played left side last season, I believe.

2

19 Aug 2026 17:09:37
If transfer market is to be believed, of Jacquet's 19 league games he played in, he played in a back 3 for 17 of them, and the 2 cup games he played in were also a back 3.

Of all my concerns for this season, signing a new left sided central defender is way down the list.

Jones to Inter is basically the Munoz fee recouped! Nyoni and Kounas will be promoted to the first team squad! Not necessarily a bad thing, but this LFC is currently thin as cheap toilet paper!

9

19 Aug 2026 15:57:51
I wonder if Recouped Fees can win the ball back in midfield and pass it forwards.

11

19 Aug 2026 16:16:22
Well I'd fancy recouped fees chances of winning the ball back more than that tackle shy petulant knobhead Jones, TCS.

MLS and Nwarei may be available from Arsenal.
I know they may not sell or loan to rival.

But worth putting hat in the ring.

I fear if Richard Hughes tried to put his hat in the ring he would spend a month preparing and monitoring his hat.

19 Aug 2026 14:11:23
Looks like Jones is gone.

5

19 Aug 2026 14:59:27
Adam Wharton certainly has to be joining now.

3

19 Aug 2026 15:04:47
Nyoni will take Jones minutes.

8

19 Aug 2026 15:17:38
Good luck to the lad. With how McTomminey has lit up the Italian league, he could be the next Maradona out there.

Asking Nyoni to go from 21 minutes to 2000 in a midfield where the manager expects the players to run is going to be some ask.

4

19 Aug 2026 15:24:31
Be like a new signing, JK.

2

19 Aug 2026 15:30:58
Every young footballer desperately wants the chance that Nyoni is getting. It's up to him now.

11

19 Aug 2026 15:38:52
Viktor looking forward to see how Nyoni gets on this season.

One thing being overlooked is how much Iraola relies on his bench. Last season he averaged 4-5 subs a game over the league season and made 173 subs out of a possible 190, which made him the 4th most active manager for using his bench in the league, with the primary wave of those subs coming between the 60th-70th minute.

Our bench is going to be significantly used this season. That's where my confidence drops off.

I agree, Vik, can't see the club bringing in Wharton to replace Jones, he's only a squad player.

3

19 Aug 2026 15:47:18
There are some squeaky bums in here today. I am pretty relaxed, and what will be, will be.

I think for a bit of a reminder of both how good and how bad things have been, everyone should watch the Captains vid with VVD, SG and Souness.

1

19 Aug 2026 16:24:58
I know this is probably going to be a very unpopular opinion, but I don't think Nyoni is all that. Yes, he's got age on his side, and the minutes now to show what he's capable of, but even as today stands, I don't see how he is even a shadow of a replacement for Jones, as many on here keep saying.

I think we should get Wharton before Man City buy up what's left of the extremely limited pool of English talent. Macca will be gone by January as well anyway imo.

1

19 Aug 2026 16:32:44
Bit harsh that, mate. Give the kid a chance to play and grow, then judge him.

He has all the ability to make it. For me, the only thing is whether he can develop the consistency needed to get starts and impact games as a sub, which he's sure to be this season.

2

19 Aug 2026 16:39:15
Well now that you mention it, TIB, but I don't think Wharton is all that. He's never really really stood out for me, and he's not what an Iraola team needs, but hey it's all about opinions, brother. 👍

Good luck to CJ and I hope he does well.

Not sure we will bring in a midfield replacement though. Why? We won the league in 2024/25 with a midfield of Grav, Szobo and Macca. 3 main leaders for the 3 positions. Jones, Endo, Elliott and youngsters in support.

Last year we bought Wirz. 4 main leaders for 3 positions. Jones, Endo and youngsters in support.

This year we still have 4 main leaders for 3 positions: lose Jones and gain Elliott.

To me the only way we buy Wharton or any other main first team option is if we sell one of Grav, Szobo, Macca or Wirz. Macca most likely but that's the only way we strengthen there.

Other areas are the priority. Just my opinion - no inside info whatsoever.

19 Aug 2026 17:39:15
Indeed Bil, it is all about opinions. To be even more honest, although I do like some aspects of Wharton's game, I wouldn't say he was a block buster signing either, but we definitely need some more Brits/Irish in that team.

Deal struck for CJ to Inter … Squads getting thinner & incomings looking bleak.

5

19 Aug 2026 14:59:40
I expect Wharton to come in.

1

19 Aug 2026 15:17:04
More realistically, you hope Wharton is coming in, @Ron.

4

19 Aug 2026 16:55:41
Alex Scott of Bournemouth, more likely, I think.

Curtis Jones fee agreed with Inter.

Looks like a flurry activity in the market today. Konsa to Gooners, Baleba to Man Utd.

2

19 Aug 2026 15:12:19
I know this is the Liverpool page, but why are Arsenal signing another CB?

I don't mind Curtis going, he hasn't kicked on as we had hoped. Nyoni looks like he'll come in and take his place in the squad.

0

19 Aug 2026 15:26:41
Not only signing another CB, but spending big money on another CB. Surely one of the other 8 CBs must be leaving?

Or perhaps Arteta is going for a team with 11 CBs?

They have glaring weaknesses in the forward areas. Gyokeres was their top scorer last season, with 14 goals, with 3 of them penalties.

The next best was Saka, with 7, with 1 of them a penalty.

That is shocking for a team that's being made out to be unbeatable and who will apparently walk the league this season.

3

19 Aug 2026 15:42:06
Nobody is saying they're unbeatable. People, me included, and Paddy Power are saying that they are the team to beat. All teams have weaknesses and currently theirs are less than their competitors.

1

19 Aug 2026 15:58:32
We'll see, Shankly. I personally don't think they will win the title this season.

I think they have a lot of squad quality players, but a lot of grossly overrated players too.

Bruno is massively overrated and doesn't improve them.

Konsa won't even play when everyone is fit.

I'd expect them to do well in the domestic cups, but the league will be more competitive and they won't get the same ridiculously easy run in the Champions League.

1

19 Aug 2026 13:53:09
Looks like Curtis is going to Inter finally then, according to Ramano? Probably best for all parties if pre-season is anything to go by.

I'd guess Nyoni will take his place in the squad?
