Hi Ed2,

Is there any chance you could do a round up of centre backs which we have shown interest in/ scouted recently, who could be potential signings for the summer?

I think you did a RW one recently, but on searching I couldn't find one for defenders.

 1

{Ed002's Note - Something like this:
Tosin Adarabioyo (CB) Spurs interest may remain as they struggle to sign their preferred options and are still light at CB - although they may not guarantee a starting role. Free Agent in the summer and expect MIlan and Monaco to make an approach for discussions before then. Milan fear the departure of Fikayo Tomori with Monaco being light at CB and running the chance that Guillermo Maripan will move on. West Ham will also consider making the player an offer. Wildcard may be Liverpool or Manchester United. Fulham will look to a new contract which may win out - or just perhaps a move to Spurs.
Dean Huijsen (CB) On loan at Roma who will try to sign him. Being scouted by RBL, Liverpool, Newcastle, Frosinone and Borussia Dortmund. Will talk with Juventus and consider his options – perhaps Borussia Dortmund will be attractive.
Goncalo Inacio (CB) Watched by scouts from a number of PL sides, including Liverpool and Manchester United, with the latter declaring an interest. Sporting will not be keen to do business with Liverpool although the club could potentially pay his full Release Clause and force the situation if the player is interested. The other sides to declare an interest are Newcastle and PSG, but PSG have a plan over another player. Real Madrid offer a wildcard option. Sporting would rather not sell and are looking to a new contract and an increased release clause. Newcastle have begun talks with Sporting in order to be able to speak directly to the player and to understand if there is flexibility in the payment schedule – it seems most unlikely that will be successful. Arsenal interest would have departed with the signing of Timber. The player has also been offered to Chelsea by his agent when discussing another player, but they have preferred options for a long-term Silva replacement. The player is open to a move to Manchester United.
Piero Hincapie (CB) Interest of Nottingham Forest will go nowhere. Scouted and rejected by Spurs as not being ready for the Premier League, but he may well be now and they could well look again. Open to a move to Liverpool as they look for cover but his expectation is to be a starter and their interest is not as advanced as supporters think with no agreement reached for January. Milan and Roma have both sent scouts. If they sell in January there will be a significantly high expectation in terms of a fee. The club will look to hang on to the core of Tapsoba, Hincapie and Tah but I would not rule out a summer move.
Murillo (CB) The sharks are circling as Nottingham Forest look to shore the club up against further FFP charges and move players on. Liverpool and Chelsea have sent scouts but I understand both consider him physically short to meet their desires. Barcelona have also sent scouts as they see him as versatile enough to fit in a three with their revamped defence. Real Madrid and Manchester United offer wildcard options.
Perr Schuurs (CB) Interest gone.
Jean-Clair Todibo (CB) Interest gone.
Antonio Silva (CB) Benfica say that "many scouts" have been to watch the player - perhaps they are looking for someone to pay his €100M buy out clause - a move at that price seems unlikely but Bayern Munich, PSG and Manchester United are keen and he is first choice for Manchester United next summer but both PSG and Real Madrid should not be discounted. Juventus and Napoli would want a reduction in the asking price to make any move viable. Looked at by Spurs and Manchester City. For Liverpool perhaps a Konate replacement but very unlikely. Discussed with Chelsea during a conversation about another player and perhaps number two on their lengthy list of options but there is a part exchange option. I think Manchester United could get something completed.
Ousmane Diomande (CB) Joined in January 2023 and covered by the Cotonou Agreement. Sporting see him as a long-term partner for Inacio and do not wish to sell - rejecting an offer from Arsenal in the summer. Arsenal could look again but have other targets as well. Newcastle, Manchester City, Liverpool (via a third party) and Chelsea have sent scouts to watch him and Chelsea have declared an interest in him. Sporting will insist that his Buy Out Clause is paid in full. Newcastle or Chelsea seem best placed.
Bafode Diakite (RB/CB)) Scouted by Liverpool. Very versatile.
Leny Yoro (CB) Lille kiddie who already has PSG, Chelsea and Real Madrid declaring an interest. Manchester City and Manchester United have sent scouts and Manchester City may be keen to do something. May have been noticed by Liverpool when scouting another player against Nantes, but no declared interest at this time - regardless of reports saying they will pay €90M for him. Lille will resist a sale unless someone pays significantly over the odds for him. Chelsea has a preferred option but Real Madrid may push. Lille will ask for a player on loan as part of any deal with Cesare Casadei and Arda Guler mentioned. The player is keen on Real Madrid if he will get game time - else another year at Lille. Maybe not rule out PSG or Chelsea.
Ko Itakura (CB) The ex-Manchester City player was on the Kim replacement list for Napoli, so is well thought of. Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Spurs have sent scouts - and his agent has very strong ties to Spurs. Al Nassr will offer a solution.
Lloyd Kelly (CB) Free Agent interesting Spurs, Milan, Borussia Dortmund and West Ham. Wildcard may be Fulham, Newcastle or even Liverpool. Home Grown.
Maxence Lacroix (CB) Wolfsburg and Rennes failed to complete the exchange of Lacroix and Majer due to a minor sticking point over about €5M difference in valuation, meaning Wolfsburg needed to pay €25M and they wish to continue to balance the books and need to trim their squad so may be open to the sale of Lacroix. Prior interest of Chelsea and Leicester has gone. Interest of Liverpool and PSG remains but he would only likely be cover for either club.
David Hancko (CB) Only joined Feyenoord in 2002 and a clear not for sale was the response when Newcastle asked after him in 2023. I am not aware of any formal approach from Liverpool to Feyenoord but they were represented by scouts at games against PSV and Celtic in December. Agent has been offering him around with contact made with Chelsea (who have no interest), Liverpool, Bayern Munich and PSG - and likely others. When Slot moves to Liverpool the he might look to Hancko - but Feyenoord will point to the contract signed in February. He would be a van Dijk replacement. Don't rule out Napoli looking to him.
Kevin Mantilla (CB) Brighton, AEK Athens and Liverpool had scouts watching the youngster before he moved to Talleres from Santa Fe in the summer of 2023. The English clubs know he would never be home grown and would be unable to gain a Work Permit in England. Brighton have continued to scout the player will possibly look to place him at sister club Union Saint-Gilloise. Liverpool may maintain an interest still but it is difficult to see anything coming of it anytime soon.
Willian Pacho (CB) Eintracht Frankfurt have told Real Madrid the left footed CB is not for sale but they will accept €60M plus. Liverpool and Arsenal have sent scouts with Arsenal making a far lower offer and having it rejected.}

Excellent info as always. Many thanks.

Murillo or Hancko potentially are amongst the most achievable/ realistic LCBs I presume. Inacio would be the perfect VVD replacement but guess his price and our previous conduct makes that move unlikely.

30 Apr 2024 12:44:40
Hancko and Inacio for me, sell virg and Gomez too.

 2

30 Apr 2024 16:26:47
Thanks eds2
Can I ask in your opinion who off that list who would be the best for us?

{Ed002's Note - Hancko will make a good van Dijk replacement.}

Ed002 massively disappointed with Salah's behaviour and public hissy fit with Klopp - that ain't the Liverpool way! David Ornstein has stated today that Salah has no intention of leaving and intends fulfilling his contract so (1) Is that your understanding and (2) Why would the hierarchy even consider letting him run out his contract and leave for nothing- complete commercial suicide imo? If we could get circa £80 mill this summer and offload Nunez as well (possibly for a loss admittedly) do you think we could go balls out for Isak, especially when looking at his amazing stats and Edwards reported enthusiasm? TIA.

 2

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure that Liverpool would be keen on Salah running down his contract so he can leave as a Free Agent and there is interest from Michael Emanalo. I think the figure you suggest is not too far from what Liverpool could get for him, but the time has arrived to move on.

Darwin Nunez was a Jurgan Klopp buy and he could well depart - Liverpool would have to accept losing a significant amount of money on him. Finding a buyer may not be easy for his agent.

Alexander Isak (S) Newcastle have no intention of selling Isak but it is likely either Isak or Bruno Guimaraes may need to be sold to stay on the right side of the line for financial reasons. Barcelona see him as a potential Lewandowski replacement. Down the list of targets for Arsenal but Spurs may offer a solution. I am not aware of any Liverpool interest.}

Agreed Salah should go as he is rapidly diminishing and still holds some value even with 1 year left on his contract.
Not ready yet to give up on Nunez though. New coach and style of play incoming hopefully so he deserves at least 1 season to show his worth to the new management. I personally love the kid. Not his fault the team have been awful recently.

Ed02 - apologies if you’ve been asked this before but have you any feeling which attacking options Liverpool have a realistic chance of signing, especially if Salah and Nunez depart. Just feels it’s not quite worked out for Nunez despite being talented, he’s not prolific enough for a title chasing side.

 0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any plans to replace Nunez at this time. I listed the potential Salah replacements a few days ago.}

 5

29 Apr 2024 19:50:57
Ed, Given Richard Hughes experience working within Italy, do you see any potential that LFC could look at Osimhen as a Nunez replacement?

 0

{Ed002's Note - No, I don’t see there is any chance.}

Appreciate the insight! Have a great rest of your day.

29 Apr 2024 20:15:46
I personally would like Nunez stay and moved to the wing. From what I have heard about Slot, he likes his wingers. I think Nunez could do well and think he could cause some trouble and playing in a more prolific central striker.

 15

29 Apr 2024 21:33:44
I don’t think a new style of play benefits Nunez the current style of play provides him a ridiculous amount of chances he just doesn’t take them.

 9

29 Apr 2024 21:55:43
Have to admit that wasn’t a very inspiring list of potential Salah replacements if those are who we’re looking at (and it was a long list) It’s like downgrading from a vintage Dom Perignon to a three litre bottle of white lightning.

 6

29 Apr 2024 22:22:18
Even if Nunez does stay, if a player like Isak is available you should be interested.

My only concern with that lad is his injury record, otherwise he’s a class act.

 1

{Ed002's Note - Others are interested in Isai but not Liverpool at this time.}

 2

29 Apr 2024 22:34:04
SA I have to disagree with your comment on Nunez mate - he'll never make a central striker whilst he's got a hole in his arse! He is at best a Bobby F 3rd rate replacement! Kills me to say it but 2 years in PL is plenty of time to acclimatise to its pace and physicality but the poor lad has no touch and no composure and if we want to compete with City and Arsenal again next season we need a striker of Isak's stats. The "if they score 3, we score 4" is a country mile away with what we have currently.

 4

29 Apr 2024 23:45:41
If Bruno is available we should definitely be in that conversation even at the quotes £100m, excellent player and an upgrade on any of our midfield, that signing would be transformative and akin to Arsenal signing Rice. Unfortunately I think priority may be elsewhere with our backline needing investment and worse still if Salah does leave and needs to be replaced!

If Nunez stays you will be eating your words Shultzy.

Honestly the amount of people who write a player off because of a run of poor form is crazy. Instead of thinking of the goals he hasn’t scored you should look at the goals he has scored and see that as his potential.

He will be a seriously top striker somewhere, I just hope the media witch hunt and short sighted fans don’t force him out of Liverpool because we’ll regret it.

 9

30 Apr 2024 01:57:20
Nunez stays for me, I believe he'd be good under a different regime. Time will tell of course but fingers crossed for him, he tries his best.

 10

30 Apr 2024 07:41:21
Hi Schultzy, sorry my post wasn't that clear, long day. I love Nunez but for me he's not a central striker he's somebody who plays off the striker or as a winger.

I think he would be brilliant on the wing. He runs non stop, so hard working, he's like a bulldozer.

Him on one wing with a prolific striker in the middle and either Szob, Diaz, Salah or even Gakpo or another signing on the other wing could do well.

30 Apr 2024 08:08:24
The club have shown in the past they do not like letting players go for less than what they believe their value to be.

Often this has been to our detriment, holding onto surplus players for too long rather than cashing in for what we can and saving on wages.

I don’t see that changing.

Therefore I think Nunez will stay. Salah will likely go (agree with Ed002 that the time has come) despite what the club is supposedly feeding the media about him staying.

I think some fans will be disappointed that there won’t be this big overhaul of players in the summer that some are expecting.

 3

30 Apr 2024 08:23:34
It’s up to FSG if they want to do that Navy. But can’t say we haven’t been here before. Like when we needed centre backs in 20/ 21, and then just about scraped home in 3rd having been top of the table at the turn of the year, or in 22/ 23 where it was clear that we needed to refresh the midfield and move on the likes of Keita, Thiago, Fabinho and Henderson, only to then end up in 5th and completely drop out of the champions league places. If we choose to stand still while the competition strengthens then we will fall behind.

 2

30 Apr 2024 09:50:25
As others have said so eloquently, Nunez is not a good enough finisher to play centrally for a top team. Yes he's scored some decent goals but he can't be relied upon to take chances and that ultimately costs us.
Salah staying should be taken with a pinch of salt, I believe he's off and both his agent and the club are putting out rumors that he might stay to get more money.

 3

30 Apr 2024 12:01:28
Sorry Salah but don't see how a different regime makes Darwin take these chances. I like the lad but that's just making excuses for him.

 0

30 Apr 2024 13:05:58
Finishing is as much confidence and comfortability as it is technique. Ian Wright spoke about having confidence and visualizing a goal was what helped him score.

I think the point around playing to Darwin’s strengths hits on something we’ve mostly recognised in him. It’s that he is instinctual and better when he can direct and quick. Part of that is putting him in positions to just be him on the pitch and start the game from a position of strength. I think it would make a difference.

30 Apr 2024 14:13:10
I have no idea if he'll ever hit his potential but it's not like the market is full of alternatives. We have more pressing matters regarding transfers, like CB and LB. I'm optimistic he can kick on under the new regime.

30 Apr 2024 15:15:37
Beckers Pecker and SA - healthy debate from all sides is always a good thing AND I would love to be proved wrong regarding Darwin! I love his work ethic and commitment and really like the lad but my fear, and this is purely a personal opinion, is that if we go into next season with Mo and Darwin as our predominant goal source we will be left behind again! Diaz (who I desperately hope we keep as he's been the one positive since the Manure FA Cup debacle and subsequent on-field capitulation across all competitions) is invaluable in that attacking rebuild. I'm still trying to fathom how "sell Salah for circa £80 mill this summer or let him walk for sweet F A as a free next" isn't obvious to one-and-all?! I don't profess to be a financial genius but that is complete commercial suicide so I'm hoping robbos_back_pocket "both his agent and the club are putting out rumors that he might stay to get more money" proves to be prophetic.

Liverpool scouts have often been spotted at Porto. Alan Varela, Evanilson possibly being accessed. Can you please confirm or throw in other names? Thanks.

 1

{Ed002's Note - Alan Varela (DM) Barcelona may offer a profit to Porto and a player in exchange but will not meet his buy out clause. Atletico and PSG have a declared interest. An option for Manchester City to replace Phillips, but not first choice although they have spoken with Porto. Bayern Munich, Liverpool or Chelsea may provide an option having sent scouts but there is no declared interest at this time. Dortmund will not match his buy out clause. Porto has no interest in selling the player who only joined them in the summer of 2023 unless someone offered his buy out clause in a single payment, then the player will be consulted.
Evanilson (S) was of interest to Liverpool perhaps five years ago. He has struggled with injury this season and is the third choice striker at best for Porto. I am not aware of any interest being shown by Liverpool and they should be looking to the likes of Layton Stewart to be stepping up to provide cover. Newcastle have sent scouts fearing the loss of Isak.}

 8

29 Apr 2024 14:35:57
Layton Stewart joined PNE last summer. Danns probably a good solution as 3rd choice forward.

 5

{Ed002's Note - Thanks.}

29 Apr 2024 12:13:54
Ed002 - sorry on behalf of many asking this again. Some news out today suggesting Salah will stay and or we'll extend his contract. I think that's a potential error, based on recent performances anyway.

 2

{Ed002's Note - I have not changed my mind.}

 8

29 Apr 2024 12:22:51
Thanks. Have a great day!

29 Apr 2024 07:56:57
Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras Any truth in this Ed’s? And chiesa?

 0

{Ed002's Note - Luis Guilherme (AM) Manchester United, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Barcelona have shown an interest in the player for next summer. Chelsea discussed him during negotiations two other players. Spurs may well have noted him when scouting another Palmeiras player. However, a new contract and a €60M release clause may prove to be an issue.}

 3

28 Apr 2024 19:51:20
Do any of the Ed's think that mr Slot will look at Feyenoord players see Geertruida was in the away end yesterday and previously been linked with Hancko,

 1

{Ed002's Note - Hancko has been of interest - a good van Dijk replacement.}

 7

28 Apr 2024 21:17:54
Ed, are you suggesting Virgil will move on?

 1

{Ed002's Note - At some point he will.}

 12

28 Apr 2024 22:37:34
Brilliant shout both hanko and geertruida can play left, right back and centre back I really hope that happens.

 1

29 Apr 2024 04:06:23
Geertruida would be a great versatile addition, don’t know as much about Hancko but if 002 rates him then he must be decent.
I would like to see Kudus added too, and maybe the kid from Porto (Varela)

 0

29 Apr 2024 08:29:17
Hancko is slower than Nat Phillips. You need speed to play at CB in the PL.

 2

29 Apr 2024 10:26:26
Virgil is 33 now unbelievably.

 1

27 Apr 2024 22:40:09
Ed002 has there been anything more than Chinese whispers regarding a possible signing of Levi Colwill in the summer or anything more substantial on an alternative Centre Back if not? TIA again.

 1

{Ed002's Note - Colwill signed a new contract and Chelsea has no plan to sell him.}

 7

28 Apr 2024 11:54:07
I think we’d be better off going for Inacio, not massively convinced that Colwill is all that good and he’d cost a ridiculous amount given the “English Tax”.

 12

28 Apr 2024 13:05:40
My ideal LCB would be Bastoni personally (I know it won’t happen ed2). Just saying he’s class and would be ideal.

 10

28 Apr 2024 13:20:09
Bastoni looks a good player tbh Shaq.

 5

28 Apr 2024 15:42:35
Didn’t Klopp “upset” Sporting by trying to tap Inacio up?! At least there won’t be an approach embargo now that Amorims out the picture 🤷🏼.

 2

28 Apr 2024 16:16:18
No, it was Ugarte last summer Mark. Unsettled the player and Sporting were rightly annoyed with us. Inacio has a buyout clause apparently. Just pay the clause and be done with it.

 6

28 Apr 2024 20:15:08
Is VVD playing right sided CB a possibility if a new left sided player comes in? Matip leaving and Konate unreliable. If we’re only signing one CB I’d keep VVD left side with a new RCB coming in.

 1

28 Apr 2024 20:56:19
VVD doesn’t look like he’s got many miles left in him.

 4

29 Apr 2024 09:50:34
Who said “we’re only signing one CB” - apart from @OneKiss?

 2

29 Apr 2024 11:46:56
I wish people would remove their rose-tinted glasses when it comes to VVD. He's been decent in about 50% of games this season and average in the rest. He's almost 33 - time to move on and get him replaced. New CB and a striker who scores goals are an absolute priority for me. Plenty options for positions elsewhere in the squad.

 2

30 Apr 2024 12:16:50
He's been super in most games and, like the rest of the team less impressive the last few games. Years left still in Van Dijk. Like last week when Calvert Llewin supposedly dominated Virg nd Konate. He dominated Konate alright, i must have missed him doing it to Virg. Up until the last few weeks i think its been fairly commonly accepted Saliba and Virg were the two best CB's in the league this season. Careful what you wish for wanting him gone, our title challenge was built on him and a couple others this season.
