Ed1
Thought I’d ask your thoughts on Kudus and whether he could be an eventual successor to Salah? Appreciate not close to that level currently, but still young and be interesting to see what he could do in a more dominant team?
{Ed001's Note - show pony who plays for himself, not the team. Failed to track back on the first goal and so cost his team badly. Beautiful to watch play but you wouldn't want him on your team.}
1.) 30 Dec 2024 15:32:05
Ed01, I rate Kudus as he reminds me of a younger Sadio Mane at the Saints. Now I know he can be a bit of a hot head and a show pony BUT could this not be as a result of the rank uselessness of his team mates and their inability to put up any type of resistance at times?
{Ed001's Note - Mane wasn't like that at all. Kudus is just not interested in the team.}
2.) 30 Dec 2024 16:21:44
I hope we let Arsenal spend 80 million £ + on him, i don't rate him that highly at all. Very inconsistent.
3.) 30 Dec 2024 16:39:57
Yeah, I can see how Kudus' weaknesses are down to his teammates.
It's like Nunez not scoring because the team doesn't create enough chances despite being the league's top scorers.
4.) 31 Dec 2024 02:29:02
It’s a plot @Rigsby, the passes to Gakpo, Diaz, Jota and particularly Salah are great but everybody holds up the ball when Nunez is playing and the lad just can’t stop himself from running offside.
5.) 31 Dec 2024 10:36:18
Nice one, WDW.
It's mad that the team is set up in a way that has us top of the PL and CL but isn't playing to Nunez's strengths.
I'd rather be lower down the leagues than have to put up with that "you're just a sh*t Andy Carroll" chant.
I can handle not being in a title race but I can't handle banter!
28 Dec 2024 08:54:30
Banter question folks.
If the absolute worst happened and we lost TAA, VVD and Salah on frees. Who would be your choice replacements? You can realistic if you want, or just pie in the sky. Just thought it could be a good chat.
I’ll get us started:
Frimpong
Bastoni
Rodrygo
I think that RW is the hardest one to come up with a realistic option for who is good enough. Rodrygo is probably pie in the sky, but my proper pies would be Saka or Yamal!
1.) 28 Dec 2024 09:31:34
Bradley, Nat Phillips and Doak.
Imagine the money saved and wage bill.
2.) 28 Dec 2024 09:49:10
None of those players are the same standard as the ones hypothetically leaving, would be sad if it turned out that way, just goes to show how incredible these three players are that even pie in the sky fantasy football replacements can’t match them.
3.) 28 Dec 2024 09:57:00
Malo gusto
Alessandro bastoni
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
4.) 28 Dec 2024 10:11:47
Frimpong.
Saliba.
Saka.
Obviously not going to happen though, so I'd imagine we'll end up with
Promote Bradley.
Inacio.
Bakayoko.
5.) 28 Dec 2024 10:15:59
Forgot about Kudus, he’s probably an attainable RW but clearly still a drop off from Salah by some stretch.
6.) 28 Dec 2024 11:09:59
We’d drop off a cliff without VVD. I think we’d need an entire new defence if we lost him and that’s no exaggeration. He’s the Team it’s built off him.
7.) 28 Dec 2024 11:38:11
If the worst was to happen.
I’d go all out for Bastoni and Kvaratskhelia, I’d forget Frimpong as he’s a wing back rather than a fullback, plus City will be looking at him and he’s not worth the asking price. Reckon we should look at Geertruida instead as he is very versatile, can play Right Back, Defensive Midfield or Centre Back competently.
8.) 28 Dec 2024 11:45:48
I agree with lfc8,I dread the day vvd not here or not at his level.
9.) 28 Dec 2024 11:46:52
Branthwaite for Virgil. The Georgian for Salah and Bradley for Trent.
{Ed001's Note - please not Branthwaite - not good enough.}
10.) 28 Dec 2024 12:54:31
I'm with DHFC, to me they are the best options.
I don't understand all the clamour for Frimpong. He is just a younger version of Kyle Walker, maybe with a slighty better end product. Pass for me that.
11.) 28 Dec 2024 14:01:06
Kudus
Pedro Porro
Bastoni
I feel like Pedro Porro is terribly underrated when people talk about some of the best RBs around. I think he would excel in a system better suited to him than Anges. He would be my ideal replacement for Trent, albeit I’d rather Trent just stay.
12.) 28 Dec 2024 14:07:47
I like Kulusevski as a Salah replacement.
Milenkovic from Forrest is a very good CB. Not as good on the ball but is a very very good old fashioned defender. Quick, Strong and a Giant!
I was going to Say Bradley needs to get his chance as 1st choice so a player like Simikan would be perfect as cover and rotation for RB and CB but he chose to retire last season apparently by going to Saudi Arabia!
13.) 28 Dec 2024 13:36:33
Sorry Ed01, didn’t mean to upset you, just think we will end up with him. (Branthwaite)
I would prefer Virgil aged 24 but he is not available and I was stuck for a replacement. I don’t think any of the alternative CBs are fit to lace his boots.
{Ed001's Note - Murillo, Bastoni, both are miles better than Branthwaite.}
14.) 28 Dec 2024 14:43:32
Branthwaite plays for Everton, he is never signing for us! This is not football manager, They would rather sell him for less money to Utd or Arsenal than us!
15.) 28 Dec 2024 14:58:37
Branthwaites a good defender but he's not good enough on the ball to play for us.
{Ed025's Note - still young and still learning Kopite and looks to me to have a very bright future mate, is he worth the money being bandied about?..not on your nellie..
16.) 28 Dec 2024 15:11:10
You aren’t going to replace our three like for like, that’s just reality. Everyone is going to a step down and if the target is to replace like for like then we may just give up now.
We can only hope that others step up and tactics can cover the huge void these 3 would leave.
17.) 28 Dec 2024 15:12:49
Kulusevski reminds me of our very own Dirk Kuyt.
18.) 28 Dec 2024 15:34:38
Pedro Porro is a much, much, much worse defender than Trent and is also considerably worse on the ball despite being okay going forward, I wouldn’t like to be stuck with him at all.
19.) 28 Dec 2024 16:49:49
Maybe Scalvini as a virg replacement. I'm happy for Bradley to replace trent but not sure anyone in the world can replace salah. Perhaps in dream land in would be Musiala.
20.) 28 Dec 2024 17:03:33
I agree Patrik, Porro is passionate but a very average player. Kulusevski is bit like Kuyt but with better technique and skills.
21.) 28 Dec 2024 18:22:09
A realistic 3 would be Conor, Mbuemo and Murillo.
16 Nov 2024 13:25:52
Just wanted to join everyone in sending my condolences to Ed2 and his family.
Ed2 and this site is the reason I stopped reading the gossip pages on bbc and sky sports after seeing how truly bogus 98% of the info was on there.
He’ll be sorely missed.
03 Oct 2024 18:56:13
Hypothetical question for Ed1 and fellow reds.
Szobo’s role in the as CAM is about leading the press and breaking up play when out of possession, and the creating and scoring goals when in possession. He’s doing the former really well but struggling with the latter so far.
Do you think Bobby would have nailed that role under Slot? Would have loved to have seen that.
And what 1 former player would pop into the Slot system/ squad of today?
{Ed001's Note - yes it would have suited Bobby. Xabi Alonso would have dropped into midfield perfectly to be a massive upgrade on Mac Allister.}
1.) 03 Oct 2024 21:19:42
Which "ONE" former player= Rush! Fowler! Suarez!
2.) 03 Oct 2024 22:26:38
John Barnes would get 30 goals a season if he was playing now.
3.) 03 Oct 2024 22:32:31
I'm glad that you brought Barnes' into the mix Thunderbird. He is my all time favourite LFC player. If we would have been in Europe in the peak of his career I really believe he would have been regarded on a Messi/ Ronaldo level.
4.) 03 Oct 2024 23:22:29
I'd like to see a prime Torres up top for us.
5.) 04 Oct 2024 02:20:36
Only for him to get injured @Bmena-red. The prime Torres missed more games than Diogo Jota.
6.) 04 Oct 2024 02:57:15
Bobby playing at CAM with Suarez (horrible individual though he may be) playing as the striker when they were both at their peak would really have been something to watch.
7.) 04 Oct 2024 12:14:58
Imagine if you combined Suarez and Bobby.
I just hope they don’t end up with Bobbys teeth and Suarez’s mindset or they would be up for attempted murder if they were to bite.
8.) 04 Oct 2024 14:25:42
Bobby would have bossed it cos he is actually a natural no. 10. A real creator who could play behin the lone CF or two stikers. Szobo is not that type of player.
04 Sep 2024 07:20:05
Morning guys. Looking for input from Ed’s and posters.
I’ve seen a couple of complaints now from G Neville and Maresca saying that PSR is forcing clubs to sell their academy prospects, which I’m confused about tbh.
Unless I’m missing something, PSR is forcing clubs to specifically sell academy players like Mctominay and Gallagher, but more to just act sustainably with transfers in/ out.
I thought it was weird that Maresca complained but all I could think was “well you could just stop buying 15 players every transfer window? ”.
Am I missing something? Happy to be educated.
{Ed001's Note - not missing anything, they don't need to sell them, they could simply stop buying so much dross. It is an idiotic and unsustainable policy that is why they are not fighting for the title despite spending obscene amounts of money.}
1.) 04 Sep 2024 09:11:45
I think its along the lines of
If you sign a 50 mill player on a 5 year contract then its down on the PSR spend sheet as 10 mill a year for 5 years.
If you sell a player for 50 mill then it goes straight onto your accounts as profit.
The academy players are 100% profit as they won't be on your spend sheet.
{Ed001's Note - but you still have to spend on the academy in the first place. So it is false accounting and not a clever way to work. Especially if you are Chelsea and one of the things you are in trouble for is the side payments made to attract a number of those academy players. Those may not show in the accounts, but they came from the club's coffers.}
2.) 04 Sep 2024 10:23:22
Chelsea fans (and the likes of Lavia and Caicedo) are still going to tell you that we don't have a clue, that they are the best run club in the country with a clever sustainable ten year model and that they will dominate football for years to come, Ed001, maybe we're just imbeciles who don't understand a thing about this game.
{Ed001's Note - maybe. In 10 year's time, if they are hoovering up all the trophies they will be able to say 'told you so', but I doubt it.}
3.) 04 Sep 2024 10:57:04
Ed01, I've heard the "my dog ate my homework" excuse but this is one as in "The damn PSR made me do it" definitely takes the biscuit for me. Utterly ridiculous.
Like you said, if they stopped buying young players even teenagers for that matter for big fees, they wouldn't have to sell academy players and PSR wouldn't be an issue.
{Ed001's Note - especially Chelsea, who are selling better players than they are buying a lot of the time. How does that even make sense?}
4.) 04 Sep 2024 12:11:55
What Chelsea are doing has nothing to do with football. They are just a ‘body shop’ intent on making money. They really are a poorly run, distasteful collection of spivs.
5.) 04 Sep 2024 12:29:58
That’s the craziest part ed001! The players they have sold are so much better than what they have now.
You look at the players that were some of the most “desired” this summer or moved for big money - Olise, Guehi, Solanke - all coming from their academy earlier in their careers.
And they have ended up with nearly all academy players sold to fund purchasing a bloated squad full of mostly average players.
{Ed002's Note - You need to understand is that young players depart for various reasons, game time for example.}
6.) 04 Sep 2024 11:12:30
That’s exactly what I was saying to my Chelsea supporting mate. I just don’t understand what Chelsea are trying to do.
They are selling the beating heart of the team and club in their Academy products and buying players that aren’t even as good.
Baffling.
{Ed001's Note - that is the biggest thing. If they were selling them to buy players like Bellingham and Mbappe, for example, you could understand it, even though that still doesn't work that well (just ask PSG). But they are selling the academy silver to buy players that, at their very best, are on about the same level as the players they are selling. Then they wonder why performances are all over the place, without those players that will run through brick walls for the team.}
7.) 04 Sep 2024 18:52:42
@Beckers and Im channeling by inner Chris Tucker in the movie Rush Hour when I say, "Nobody understands the words that are coming out of Chelsea's mouth".
8.) 05 Sep 2024 10:40:25
Seen reports that to comply with PSR Chelsea have sold 2 hotels to one of their sister companies. And has been ratified by the premier league.
9.) 06 Sep 2024 12:31:06
Saw that too Gaga - just sounds wrong though doesn't it?
I mean, these issues from PSR is just really from buying too many players. Swear, I just do not understand Chelsea since Boehly took over - they have just bought and bought and bought and weirdly sold players that have done better than those purchases.
As Liverpool fans, we all want to be more active in the market over the years but you see what the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd have done and think, you know what, we've done ok.
The big thing in PSR/ FFP will be the City case I still think - all great having these rules but if no real punishment is dished out then what honestly stops others doing the same? Distracting thing in that case though is the sheer amount of charges, lot of them inconsequential really, think near 40 are just 'failure to co-operate' etc; but a few major ones such as the manager renumeration etc that the League would want settled.
16 Jan 2025 21:41:33
Just playing devils advocate that Marmoush could just as easily be the next Darwin than a success.
Nobody on these pages had ever heard of him before this season (be honest) . He’s either a late bloomer (25) or he’s having a freak season like Darwin did the year we bought him.
I don’t know which one it is, but in truth neither does anyone else on here, and I’m not having it that anyone on here has watched more than a handful of Eintract Frankfurt games in their life.
16 Jan 2025 21:37:40
We have two high quality left wingers, and PSR to think about. It would be daft to spend money on the position we absolutely need the least in our team, no matter who the player is.
16 Jan 2025 11:44:10
That’s called cutting your nose off to spite your face.
So childish. I want to have the best chance of winning and if Trent goes at the end of the season I’ll be gutted, thank him for all he’s done and wish him luck.
15 Jan 2025 21:55:12
Don’t tell Victor we’re buying anyone. He won’t bloody be-lieve it!
14 Jan 2025 06:52:32
Not only would we never reject 70mil.
What club on earth would go in with 70mil as an opening offer for a striker so badly out of form (arguably never found it)?
24 Jan 2025 15:56:41
More than anything I’m sick and tired of debating/ reading the different permutations, whether they’re snakes or whether club have ballsed up.
There’s literally no new conversation to be had about this and no amount of chat is going to influence the outcome.
23 Jan 2025 11:27:13
Fair enough BP. I’d seen a lot of people replying to that thread but hadn’t seen your apology.
Takes a big person to hold their hands up, I apologise for the dig too.
Completely agree on the negativity, it’s unbearable when things are going so well.
23 Jan 2025 06:10:43
This new format is so confusing. How can we possibly play 15th/ 16th when there’s a playoff to be had and 15th/ 16th can be eliminated in the playoff?
23 Jan 2025 06:08:26
The irony of telling people to lighten up when you had a public meltdown about adverts on this site and called out Ed1.
21 Jan 2025 18:21:09
I’m curious when people make statements like that.
Like, what are you basing it on? He barely kicked a ball last season and has something 1 or 2 goals this season.
How many full 90min Southampton games have you watched?
For the cost, there’s a lot of safer bet options out there for me.
