Can I claim this day ed25 day for his ability to take and give back the banter with good humour. We love you Ed.

Fatboy barnes

{Ed025's Note - cheers mate..

1.) 21 Aug 2023 04:04:37
He always has
but seriously what on earth is going on at Everton?
Sean Dyche is about as good as a manager they can get at this moment and even his typically tight defence and hard working virtues are not seen in this team

It is worrying

Not sure about their summer business but it does look quite ominous.

2.) 21 Aug 2023 09:25:37
You would need a sense of humour to support Everton these days. ?.

3.) 21 Aug 2023 11:54:33
Indeed, Mikey. If you can't laugh supporting Everton, you will cry near every day.

On another note, mad props to the LFC crowd at the game who payed tribute to the young Everton fan who passed away due to his injuries while working on their new stadium. Top class from the Anfield crowd.

May he rest in peace and thoughts as well as prayers to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. YNWA!

4.) 21 Aug 2023 08:04:39
I said it before and I'll say it again, if there people were more like Ed25, the world would be a much better place. He is an utter gent, respectful, a really really funny guy who stay on the right side of the line when it comes to banter. Funny without being mean. It's a skill.

I and I know others really appreciate your time to the site Ed25.

{Ed025's Note - thanks for that Davey mate. It’s much appreciated..

22 May 2023 07:25:41
Not sure what all the hype is about macalister, certainly does not take any sting out of going for second or in this case fourth best after pulling out of the Bellingham chase after a year of tapping up

Hope the next few signings are a bit more inspiring. Certainly won't be dethroned citeh.

Fatboy barnes

{Ed025's Note - i think hes a great player FB..

1.) 22 May 2023 07:38:22
Macalisster looks pretty press resistant to me. Good technically, ability to turn out of tight spaces and start attacks, breaks the lines either with a dribble a pass or a one two. Very intelligent player who also works hard. Think he would be a good addition for the midfield. He's similar to Gini I feel, more technical maybe abit less pace and aerial presence.

2.) 22 May 2023 08:08:43
Finally we’re looking at buying PROVEN premier league experience, still relatively young and entering his prime years as a midfielder and has been a standout in an entertaining team this year, no concerning injury record. Makes sense to me….

3.) 22 May 2023 08:13:00
And he's scored 12 goals this season. pretty decent I'd say.

4.) 22 May 2023 08:20:59
He’s a smart, excellent player who will replace Henderson if he joins.

5.) 22 May 2023 08:36:48
Fatboy, have you seen him play consistently? Cos I have and he is absolutely amazing. Everything Redwills said about him is true. He is not like Bellingham cos he is a better player which is not a slight on MacAlister, IMO. If that's who Klopp wants then so be it and I think he will be very good for us. Wait and see.

6.) 22 May 2023 09:02:59
He's just an incredibly enhanced version of wijnaldum who everyone likes to cry out that we never replaced.

I compare to wijnaldum in the sense they can do bit of everything. No major standout or weakness to the game except rather than wiji being a 6/ 10 GMac is an 8/ 10.

7.) 22 May 2023 10:35:35
If we are to persist with this 3-box-3 system, presumably he would play where Curtis is currently playing rather than where Hendo plays.

If it is 433 - which really has been more of a 424 with the right sided 8 (usually Hendo) pushing high and wide to overload, then he'd probably play where Thiago tends to start at left-8.

With that in mind, you can see where Mount fits. To play that right sided 8 or 10 position that Hendo has been occupying over the last few years.

8.) 22 May 2023 11:51:20
Mac Allister instantly improves our midfield. We still need one or two more though.

9.) 22 May 2023 12:49:30
He is worth half the reported £70 million fee, can someone tell me what he is going to bring that Jones isn't? I've watched him a few times since the world cup and he really doesn't stand out at all, for that fee i want stand out, straight in the side players, he isn't stand out better than Jones, can he or should he really take minutes off Elliott whos biggest problem is his pace, MacAllister is no speed demon, it makes little sense to pay such a high fee.

10.) 22 May 2023 13:37:03
Lancaster, i think you're looking at it wrong. It's not about replacing Jones it's about buying competition.

MacAllister is like Gundogan. Intelligence with and without the ball, uses his body well to shield the ball, can play anywhere in midfield, and scores about 10 goals a season in the process.

For me he is a top class player. Maybe not world class but neither were Hendo or Gini when we were winning things. Players who fit the way we want to play are more important than super star names who stand out, as you put it.

MacAllister can easily play with Jones. This new system we're working on is better when the midfielders who push on can offer a threat in the final 3rd. We currently only have Jones and Elliott who do carry a threat and to a lesser extent Henderson who has a decent delivery into the box if nothing else. Elliott is a weak link in the press though as he loses more 50/ 50's than he wins, and Henderson just doesn't score enough goals. So Jones is our only midfielder suited to playing this way. MacAllister and Mount are probably the main targets for exactly that reason. They are hard workers who score goals.

11.) 22 May 2023 14:20:14
Spot on, MKS. Jones is not getting replaced. We need mids' to come in and bolster the first 11 which MacAllister will do, IMO. Jones is not a first 11 regular that can start 15 games in a row. At least, not yet. MacAllister is and since he and Jones are technically sound ballers (along with Thiago and Trent), he will feel right at home.

As for Mount, Pelican said it right there. We are looking at him to play that no. 8 role on the right side as his skill set fits the way Klopp wants in that position. If that is the case then, Im good with him coming. The fee? If Klopp wants him then, what can I say?

@Lancaster if you do not know or cannot see what MacAllister brings then just maybe, you should try to watch him a lot closer with an open mind cos I deduce from your post that you are expecting things from him that are not part of his game nor what he is actually efficient and great at. I could be wrong, of course.

12.) 22 May 2023 15:22:02
Mcallister is a fantastic signing and if we can bring in two more of a similar level alongside a CB that will soften the blow of this season.

13.) 22 May 2023 15:31:55
@ MK, informative reply cheers, i'm not seeing him as a Jones replacement, i think Jones is class, it's his price, he seems good at a lot and not stand out at something, that is why i think he is at the price of say £30-35 mill, for £70 mill I would expect someone who can run a midfield, i think we are getting screwed for the fee, maybe stick the add ons to reach a higher amount but the price is the sore point imo
@ Oli, the price is my problem, seen him the last few matches and he is tidy but he isn't a £70 mill player.

14.) 22 May 2023 18:48:39
Ahhh i see Lancaster. Apologies mate i misinterpreted your concern! I guess you can argue the price is high for a player with 2 good seasons behind him. I think it reflects his versatility and tactical awareness though which is the best of any player I've seen outside of the top 6. I'd also add that because he is not a player who relies on blistering pace or brute strength, he is the sort who can play at the top well into his 30's. Players with quick minds last longer than players with quick legs. So MacAllister is an 8-10 year investment.

05 Feb 2023 05:16:14
Does anyone know if carvalho did something in training or mouthed off to klopp. That can be the only explanation why he can't buy a minute on the field. Why bother putting him in the squad if he is never picked?

If its down to his lack of defensive ability, then that's on klopp for poor coaching. Can't be any worse than the shower going on the pitch week in week out showing no respect for the club and fans and no pride in themselves.

Fatboy barnes

1.) 05 Feb 2023 06:23:28
It is honestly better to keep Carvalho out of this, he’s still looking on and learning valuable lessons but I don’t feel it would help him in the slightest being put into that situation.
Momentum can be both a positive and negative thing.
Towards the end of last season, an under-strength 11 containing many of those same players as yesterday went to Newcastle Utd and absolutely dominated them, turned a tough fixture into a cake walk almost.
How do you account for that?
Confidence, resilience, determination, all factors that wax and wane to a degree but at their extreme cause a physical manifestation where good or bad results seem to become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Its negative effect is that the sport becomes unenjoyable, not even Mo could crack a smile yesterday and he’s usually the most laid back, ebullient character in the side.
Saying that, going 0-2 down anywhere away from home in the PL is football hari-kiri. Your opponent reverts to a defensive block and plays on the counter, really difficult to turn round. Especially these days with improved fitness and coaching etc. at all levels.

2.) 05 Feb 2023 07:50:04
Mo's form has dropped off worse than Fab's, and for longer. It might be time for him to freshen by moving. PSG can pay 150m for him.

{Ed025's Note - 150m what?..pounds or hungarian luncheon vouchers..

3.) 05 Feb 2023 08:55:43
Lucky to get £50m. Worse than Fab’s is a big stretch mate.

4.) 05 Feb 2023 09:03:18
150m Spaceman? Really?

5.) 05 Feb 2023 09:42:45
Salah must have it written into his contact that he has to play because there’s no other way he would be starting. Give the starting place to Elliot he can’t do any worse. Klopp has done the same to Fab.

6.) 05 Feb 2023 12:07:10
So the cowardly bullies can come after him the same way they came after Elliott even tho the kid is playing his heart out for the cause, OP? No freaking way. Carvalho should stay well away from this ship show until things get better. When is that going to be? Your guess is as good as mine.

7.) 05 Feb 2023 12:41:45
Spaceman on the space cakes, methinks.

31 Jan 2023 22:14:13
So I have a question. Is klopp persisting with salah because he has no one else he trusts or because he has to play him to justify the new deal he was given?

He has dropped in form significantly since he signed, is it complacency, and is it complacency on klopps part for not shaking things up a bit?

Yes I know we have injuries and lack of senior options, but the cup game surely would have been ideal for a kaide Gordon or Ben doak possibly bringing the under performing salah on as a sub maybe.

Fatboy barnes

1.) 31 Jan 2023 22:19:00
Can’t really drop him when we have no one else. No use playing Ox there for 2 or 3 games we’ll just be even worse. He’s scored and set up more than any of our other players since the restart still. He’s been poor but we’ve got far bigger issues in the team.

2.) 31 Jan 2023 22:31:44
Salah is quite good on his day.

{Ed025's Note - tuesdays and thursdays?.. :)

3.) 31 Jan 2023 22:36:34
Everton tried to get Olivier Giroud through the door today!

4.) 31 Jan 2023 22:53:52
He's not been right since the AFCON.

But also not helped by the right side behind him being dysfunctional.

I had proposed that a midfielder with legs (eg Kone, Laimer, Musah) to come in and play right sided midfield (Hendo's normal position) would have simultaneously unlocked Fabinho, Trent and Mo again.

But alas we'll never know.

5.) 31 Jan 2023 23:47:26
FPF, I would also propose that if our forward line starts pressing again, it would ease the pressure on our midfielders and unlock them as well.

But I do agree that if we want to return to our previous style of play, we need someone of Hendo's ilk to come in.

6.) 01 Feb 2023 00:09:41
While I agree pressing starts from the front it’s a bit of a stretch to suggest our forwards need to take the pressure off our midfield.

7.) 01 Feb 2023 01:27:54
I wouln't say though, FPF. We used to not give the opposition defenders time and space to pick out passes, forcing them into mistakes so that our players could pick up their loose balls and launch counter attacks from within the opposition half. Now, the opposition defenders are not under pressure and can choose their passes, which puts our players, including our midfield, under pressure. I don't think that it was a coincidence that our best period in the Brighton game came when the forwards were pressing.

8.) 01 Feb 2023 03:12:26
@Ed025. - brilliant, made me laugh out loud sir ???????.

9.) 01 Feb 2023 04:34:27
Salah's overall performances, imo, have been on the decline for well over 18 months now. For me I've always felt that he performs best when the machine is functioning, but he isn't the kind of superstar to take the game by the scruff of the neck and also make his team mates better. Pops for a goal and an assist and is then basically non-existent for the majority of these matches.

10.) 01 Feb 2023 07:30:28
I do think pressing (or lack of) is a huge part of the decline, we suffer all over the pitch because of it. We never win the ball Back in the final third anymore, so we are not at our most dangerous. The days of mane, Bobby and salah are gone. Will they come back when jota and Diaz are fit? I hope so but I’m not so sure. I’m not sure salah is capable of what he used to do - whether it’s physically or mentally or the players around him - he just seems to be less energetic than before. I hope he comes back. I don’t think jota is a good substitute for Bobby, (I’ve not decided on gakpo or Darwin yet) But that press from the front 3, supported by hendo, is how we kept teams under Pressure, essentially defending and attacking at the same time. With no midfielder now capable of joining a front 3 press it’s easy to play out of . So our midfield is experiencing pressure like it’s not seen in years and is just creaking every game as they lack the speed and/ or fitness to keep it compact. Therefore our back line is getting hammered and just can’t cope. So yes tweaks in tactics on the right are impacting salah (& Trent) but the press is impacting everyone. I hope we bring it back and dare I say get closer to heavy metal football than whatever genre we are playing right now .

{Ed001's Note - I think it is easy listening now.}

11.) 01 Feb 2023 09:22:52
Can you imagine if we'd signed a half decent midfielder in the summer instead of Nunez? The midfield would've been better but the front line would have been Salah and who else for the last few months of last year? We'd have been robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Come January, we'd have been crying out for a forward and I'm sure we'd have been seeing Gakpo's name mentioned as a target on here ?.

12.) 01 Feb 2023 14:05:27
Rigsby, We would ONLY have Salah as a forward cos all the others would have been injured (till Gakpo came) and the same people moaning now about not getting a mid, would be moaning now about not having enuff forwards.

Never a red, it was a 50/ 50 ball, which both players played for and which both players had their foot up at the SAME height and both trying to side foot it. Unless I'm mistaken football is still a contact sport and not some kind of dance or ballet. Ed25 I think senior citizens get eye tests for free, might want to put in an appointment with spec savers mate lol.

{Ed025's Note - you could be right FB, i might ask the optician to prescribe me ones with a bit of a red tint mate, they seem to be all the rage at the moment.. :)

That would be disappointing if we ended the window with Endo as the main DM, but would not be surprised at all either, very much par for the course. However, I live in hope that we will move for someone like dacoure and a cheap left sided defender before the window shuts.

A lot of spin to disguise the fact this is an extremely underwhelming signing and probably means we won't be signing anyone of note in this position. I await the rest of the tw with baited breath. or I won't.

There are so many DMs outside the list we have been fed by the media. LfC just need to be a bit less obvious with their choices and less obtuse in their negotiations. I am being very polite when I say obtuse, because what I really mean is dumb clucks.

Chelsea are not short of cash, they have had a fire sale this summer and flogged players all over the gaff. I suspect they have enough for both lavia and ciacedo. Lfc have to suck it up and move on I'm afraid.
