Hi Ed02,

Thanks for your posts recently on the potential new manager topic. Are you able to briefly summarise the key targets Liverpool are looking at for the summer. Just the key positions I imagine we are looking at - CB, LB, RW and possibly DM?

Thanks
Hessle Red.

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed002's Note - Right now it is difficult as the targets have been identified by Hunter, Klopp and Fallows and that could make it tough for any new manager/coach joining. Amorim plays a different formation to Klopp so he would have his own ideas about CBs as an example. We now that Nagelsmann has expressed concern that the transfer approach at Liverpool may not suit him - so he would perhaps need some convincing.

Need to sort out the GK situation, add a CB to replace Matip (do you go for an up and coming Dean Huijsen or pay a huge fee for Inacio?), sort out a contract for Alexander Arnold and look to replace Salah who is still likely to leave. They need to make up their minds about adding either an out and out DM (like Andre Trindade) or a more versatile CM/DM player (like Thuram or Morten Frendrup).}

1.) 04 Apr 2024 13:36:24
He ED02,

Is there any situation Salah stays for a further season? Or has that boat sailed?

Is Amorim in your view (won’t hold you to it) the most likely successor to Klopp?

Also why has TAAs contract been allowed to run down so much? I get Steve McManaman and Micky Owen vibes….

{Ed002's Note - Salah could potentially run his contract down but I think that unlikely.

Ruben Amorim seems the most likely but there is interest in him from elsewhere.

I don't know why a contract offer is yet to be made.}

2.) 04 Apr 2024 14:19:16
This is probably putting two and two together, but with Bradley excelling and showing he has what it takes to be a top class right back, maybe they’re considering cashing in and using the money for the incoming manager to spend.

3.) 04 Apr 2024 14:38:36
Thanks Ed2, appreciate all the info as always.

I think Amorim would be my preferred choice but let’s see what happens in the next couple of months.

Hessle Red.

4.) 04 Apr 2024 14:46:40
Hi Ed002, I've seen you mention a few times that we're looking for either a CDM or a versatile CDM/ CM, and I just wanted to see if you personally think we actually need an extra player there? Because I feel like our midfield is pretty stacked at the moment.

In CDM we have Endo and a returning Baj to compete for a place, with Macca already proving he can provide very strong cover if needed. Then James McConnell has looked a good prospect whenever he's played and I don't think Tyler Morton would worry me if he played a few games there, even if I imagine he may well want more playing time and leave on loan/ permanently.

Then for CM we have Macca, Szoboszlai, Jones, Gravenberch, Elliott and Clark. This is all before we even start the debate about potentially moving Trent into midfield, whether that be as a CDM/ CM (it's CM for me! ) .

So that's 8 bona fide 1st team players and 3 young players on the cusp of being 1st team to cover what is likely 3 positions. I know there was a bit of overlap between the two positions and maybe the new manager will see some of these players differently (Szobo for example as more of an attacker), but I don't really see the need to add anyone unless one or two of the 1st team players get sold (which I can't see happening) and/ or a lot of the young ones go out on loan. So I'd be interested to hear your thoughts if that's okay!

{Ed002's Note - I think it is a valid point but the club has continued to look to add in that position and have been continuing to scout players in both positions.}

5.) 04 Apr 2024 15:18:17
There is no world where I see us looking to "Cash in" on Trent. The only way I can see this is if he refuses a new contract. Trent must be kept if at all possible.

6.) 04 Apr 2024 15:56:20
Or maybe trent and the club have just decided to wait till a very important season is over to sort it out.

7.) 04 Apr 2024 15:59:31
I’ve said it before I think szoboslai is more suited to replace salah than most . And if Amorim comes in and goes 343 he would need to be wide right as Bradley/ trent are tailor made for the right wing back roles
A double pivot of bajetic and macallister does on paper at least have all the earmarks of such a good pairing .

I’m so relaxed about the next man in the door and who we buy because I genuinely believe we have a really close to complete squad that could be together as a group for another 3/ 4 years without any serious surgery like we had to do on the midfield this summer hopefully that will never happen again and all areas are refreshed as and when needed and not left til they fall off a cliff like last season .

8.) 04 Apr 2024 16:09:11
Timmer, great points. I think you're bang on with what you're saying and how you are looking at the squad.

I think focus in the transfer market will be on the backline and possibly GK. GK is dependent on Kelleher, as I really hope he stays on as the heir to Alisson but I understand if he's getting impatient and wants to be the main man somewhere next year. He's an outstanding keeper and should be leading a CL caliber squad somewhere.

The defense is dependent on the manager. There's definitely some urgency to getting the manager sorted ASAP as that uncertainty is holding up our ability to do smart business in the transfer market. Should that search get delayed, we'll be in a tough spot. It's hard to sell an uncertain situation to a new player who should be protective of their career. I do think there's a need for a left sided CB who can also play in a back 3. I also think there's a need for a guy who can play as a left sided wing back.

Midfield looks really good. The attack also looks good. I think any business is dependent on a surprise departure. I'm not convinced Salah is going to leave. Every year we hear of rumblings, but he's still playing at such a high level, not sure I see him wanting to walk away from the CL yet. I don't think the timing is right for Saudi. Perhaps summer of 2025, but honestly, who knows with him.

9.) 04 Apr 2024 16:12:30
Dhfc, agree on Szoboszlai. He flourishes further forward for Hungary.

Also worth noting that Amorim normally has one of the back 3 step out into the midfield at times, and Bajcetic originally came to us as a young CB I believe, so he could even be tailor made for that particular role? I think ever since Bradley's rise, we've been destined to eventually see a Trent/ Macca midfield at some point, so Bajcetic might need to find another niche if he wants to be a regular starter as in Trent and Macca you have 2 absolutely elite level distributors of the ball.

Our squad is so rich with young talent that it's extremely malleable for the next manager to put his stamp on it without having to go crazy in the market.

10.) 04 Apr 2024 16:55:03
@mk
The club is in great shape going forward .
Been watching more and more youth football and I really don’t think it will be long until Jayden danns joins the conversations as he is a real stand out in his age group

He reminds me of Harry Kane the way he plays . Just brilliant holding the ball up and with his back to goal but deadly in front of goal .

11.) 04 Apr 2024 16:59:33
Hard to guess when we don't know who'll be the manager, what formation they'll play and who'll move on. Who would you bring in personally Ed? let's say one defender one midfielder one forward.

{Ed002's Note - Simply for me, Dean Huijsen offers up a reasonably priced option with significant potential, but free agent Tosin Adarabioyo offersan interesting option - but mauny clubs are looking to hom. Archie Gray has huge potential but is perhapes being over hyped, maybe Liverpool should look to Ezequiel Fernandez but there is interest from elsewhere. As a forward goes we have to look at Salah moving on and Pedro Neto will be on the minds of many. Donyell Malen may be an option but for me perhaps a fight for Marcus Edwards.

12.) 05 Apr 2024 08:29:30
Ed002 I must say, I do not like the sound of any of those suggestions.

13.) 05 Apr 2024 12:25:08
I wonder why Mo is ready to leave, does he feel his powers are waning and that its time to make the most of the Saudi cash, and to preserve his knees?
Perhaps he doesn't want to be rotated.

At least Edwards would work a sizeable fee for him with contract remaining.

14.) 05 Apr 2024 13:00:52
Florian Wirtz for me all day.

15.) 05 Apr 2024 17:17:23
@centrepoint, I think it's more a case of Mo being on the downslope and making sure LFC maximize his value to be able to reinforced the team for the long term. It's all business - by low, sell high and all that.

31 Mar 2024 08:52:24
Hi Ed02

Do you believe the new Liverpool manager will be one of Amorim or Nagelsmann?

Are there any other names we should be aware of that the club are looking at in your view?

Thank you
Hessle Red.

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed002's Note - I would not entirely rule out de Zerbi but there is serious interest from elsewhere. Amorim may take exception the way transfers are being planned at Liverpool.}

1.) 31 Mar 2024 10:45:29
Hello ed2 hope u well. your info spot on as usual. are u at liberty to explain about the way transfers are being planned at lfc?

{Ed002's Note - The problem is that Klopp continues to be involved in the planning.}

2.) 31 Mar 2024 10:45:38
Hi Ed002. Exception to the way transfers are being planned meaning the recruitment process and how much power he would have with new players coming in or that they’re already being planned and he may know of who they want to come in and he wouldn’t necessarily want those players already identified?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, any new coach will look at the players at the club and look to make some changes to suit their needs - Amorim, as an example, plays a different formation.}

3.) 31 Mar 2024 11:27:39
Happy Easter ed002! I hope the Easter Bunny was kind to you this morning ?
In what respect would Amorim take exception to the transfers?
Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed002's Note - Any new coach will want to be involved in the decision process surrounding players departing and players being added. Amorim plays with three CBs and would adopt that approach at Liverpool and that would require a change. Liverpool are still progressing with the Klopp, Fallows and Hunter targets that have been identified. This is always a consideration when taking on a new manager or head coach.}

4.) 31 Mar 2024 11:46:32
Following on that topic ed2 as regards new contracts for players, and by that im thinking of trent, salah and vvd. big players who entering last year of contract, is lfc waiting on appointing new manager before starting talks with the players? Bascially to see if new manager wants them or not. Or are they proceeding regardless of new manager.

{Ed002's Note - They are not waiting on the appointment of a new manager before dealing with contracts. I still expect Salah to be replaced and depart in the summer. Alexander Arnold will likely stay regardless of interest in him. van Dijk will be 33 by the start of next season and there will need to be plans put in place to eventually replace him.

5.) 31 Mar 2024 12:00:02
Thanks Ed002.

6.) 31 Mar 2024 12:33:25
Thanks as always ed002.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

7.) 31 Mar 2024 13:52:26
Cheers ed2.

26 Aug 2023 15:17:57
Eds- do you think Liverpool will still try to sign someone before the transfer window shuts. Starting to feel like no-one else is coming. It does worry me for the reason ahead re squad depth.

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed002's Note - Yes, as I have already answered repeatedly.}

1.) 26 Aug 2023 16:27:23
Thanks Ed02.

2.) 26 Aug 2023 21:00:44
Jessie, if we try and fail, will you consider that not trying?

3.) 26 Aug 2023 21:31:54
We’ve got to sign someone we’ve got 2 cracking players in, let’s get another ball winner in and let’s go all out for the league. Don’t mess it up now boys final pieces of the jigsaw. Klopp must demand this!

4.) 26 Aug 2023 22:35:20
I'm resigned to sitting back and watching all the new players this season find their feet, gel and the team experience a few highs and lows along the way. The thought of us challenging for the top honours hasn't crossed my mind as its likely to be a transitional season. I don't see it all clicking and working instantly as you hope. I'm just a realist I suppose.

5.) 26 Aug 2023 22:59:31
How many years do you want it to be transitional for, we are Liverpool we should go for titles, what’s the use of going in half hearted. Go and get Paulinha from Fulham and give it a good crack. Up the reds.

6.) 26 Aug 2023 23:36:32
I don’t understand all the posters who say transition, we need time etc. Do you not understand that for this squad it has to be now!

As many have said we are 2 quality signings from challenging for the title. City are weaker, it’s there to be shot at. Next year we will likely lose Salah and then the same posters will scream transition, patience. We still have Allison, Robbo, Trent, VVD, Salah, 2 great new signings. In addition the best manager we can get so no, don’t bloody wait FSG it’s now or never for you.

7.) 27 Aug 2023 00:06:35
@Lee72 - I assume you were asleep for thirty odd years from 1989 onwards. Saying ‘we are Liverpool’ sounds good but means nothing. We don’t have a right to win anything. We go out and earn it.

8.) 27 Aug 2023 00:09:23
Exactly, we must strike while the irons hot. Been watching the reds since 77 and we have always been positive believing we are the best. We have got a decent squad of players we just need to finish it off with 1 or 2 additions to give it a good go. Why wait until next season or the season after it’s not the Liverpool way.

9.) 27 Aug 2023 02:46:30
Not to harp on but ‘transitional’ is another of the buzz words that tends to mean nothing these days, but it sounds ‘informed so gets used.

Take the midfield - we got rid of Keita, Ox, Millie and Arthur. We (unplanned) sold Fabs and Hendo and we loaned out Carvalho. 7 out

We have brought Macca, Dom and Endo (how often does a surname also sound like a nickname? ) 3 in.

You could call it a transition or you could call it natural change. As an optimist you might even refer to it as good business. When all’s said and done it actually doesn’t matter what you call it, you just have to get on with it and support the club.

10.) 27 Aug 2023 08:11:20
How many times in the last 30 years have we really challenged for a title? Maybe 5 or 6 times. We have a good chance now, don’t bloody waste it.

11.) 27 Aug 2023 08:23:16
Klopp says we are ‘reloaded’. I’d argue we are half-cocked. 2 more decent signings away from really challenging for the title. Please get it done this week LFC. Rabbits out of hats time.

12.) 27 Aug 2023 09:16:09
Do or do not…. there is no try.

13.) 27 Aug 2023 10:48:54
Was going to say the exact same thing about the whole "We are LFC. We should be going for titls" schstick which means sweet nothing considering the history this club has in the PL. All that talk is just chest-beating stuff that has no basis in reality.

Now regarding us and the title this season, I wlould be shocked (and happy, ofc) should we mount a title challenge cos we are simply not ready for it, IMO esp. if we are still short a player or 2 and the system we are trying to play has that many concerns with it. People can spout all the "we are LFC going for titles" schstick, none of that dust has any impact on the pitch, which is where games are won and lost. Let's wait and see how the window and the season pans out first.

Oh and as for @Ron's comment saying that "Do or Do not. There is no try", that make no sense. Before you "Do", you actually have to try to "Do". And you can "Try", then "Do" your best and still fail. Life is a bit more complicated that than that, Ron.

14.) 27 Aug 2023 13:19:24
Lee72 "Strike while the iron is hot"?
The iron hasn't been cooler since before Klopp took over!
We will have an almost entirely new midfield this season and that's a lot of moving parts that need to work each other out. They are all fantastic players but even Firmino took a season or so to show his best form. Give the lads some time.

03 Jul 2023 18:21:10
Are Liverpool out of the running for Van see Ven (if we ever were) - as it looks like Spurs are in the driving seat there. Looks like our attention is now on Lavia, another signing I like as would be a challenge to both Fabinho and Bajcetic. I imagine Thiago may make way should a Saudi offer come in that makes sense.

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed002's Note - Micky van de Ven (CB) Dortmund and Arsenal spoke with Wolfsburg in January and were told he will be agreeing a new contract which he did in March. Liverpool and Manchester City were at a game against Dortmund in November - I had assumed to watch JB but van der Ven scored that day. Team Mino after agreeing a new deal so a sale this summer seems unlikely still but Schmadtke knows the player and knows Wolfsburg would welcome a significant profit on what they paid, so they may now press. Sprurs have declared an interest and will look to making an attractive offer as they seek a couple of CBs. Bayern Munich will look to an offer if Wolfsburg put him up for sale but know he could be priced out of a move. Moritz Jenz is not his replacement.}

1.) 03 Jul 2023 20:08:18
Thanks very much Ed02. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

2.) 03 Jul 2023 20:54:46
Spurs have agreed a deal, so it looks like he was not our priority target. There is no way he'd choose them over us if there was a choice.

3.) 04 Jul 2023 14:50:04
SolidState, don't kid yourself. Szobo rejected Newcastle with CL footie to sign for us. So clearly, there is a way. At Spurs, he will start. At LFC, he won't and as a young player, it sometimes comes down to that.

02 Jul 2023 11:53:44
Eds - is it between Lavia and Thuram now for the DM and 3rd midfielder we are looking at.

Any developments on the CBs we are looking at?

HessleRedTom1980

{Ed002's Note - (1) Not as far as I know. (2) Schuurs looks unlikely now. Antonio Silva looks close to impossible. Evan N'Dicka is a no. Goncalo Inacio looks very difficult. Josko Gvardiol is a no. Kilman is likely heading elsewhere. Pavard is possible but expensive. Micky van de Ven is in talks to move elsewhere. Jurrien Timber is moving elsewhere.}

1.) 02 Jul 2023 12:18:11
CB definitely looks like the trickier one at the moment. Midfielders there are more available options. it seems anyway.

2.) 02 Jul 2023 12:21:44
There's still time for Big Jorg to get that apology into Sporting.

3.) 02 Jul 2023 12:29:35
No word on Colwill, Hincape or this Slovakian dude?

4.) 02 Jul 2023 12:56:50
Last season no midfielders were the right fit and this summer there’s loads.

Looks like it’s centre half’s that aren’t the right fit this time round.

5.) 02 Jul 2023 14:27:13
How would Fab be rated as a CB option by anyone who really knows their football?

6.) 02 Jul 2023 16:10:37
SolidState, my uneducated opinion is I think he'd be technically sound as a CB but too slow for our high line which would make him a liability.

I think we really need fresh blood at CB to add proper competition to VVD and Konate. I don't think Matip and Gomez are pushing for a start quality-wise.

Someone quick would be close to a must in my opinion.

7.) 02 Jul 2023 16:45:42
Gregarious-A big season ahead for Fab then. He has to find his best form, and play less, which will require a dedicated 6 to be brought in (imo) .
He was one of the best not so long ago. I hope he has a last dance.

8.) 02 Jul 2023 17:03:12
Thanks Ed02 as ever. Are we right to assume we are still looking to acquire one more midfielder and a CB if we can actually find one that works for us. Understand many of the people we looked at are no longer available or very difficult.

{Ed002's Note - Yes I believe so and perhaps a GK still.}

9.) 02 Jul 2023 19:14:20
Is this a gk cb type player.

10.) 02 Jul 2023 18:45:33
Great info as usual Ed. It looks like a great summer for us, although the CB issue is going to be difficult to resolve. Even with the world's best midfield, our defence was a mess last year, and heavily reliant on Konate's fitness.

But I suppose we have to be grateful for whatever we get as the club are obviously bringing in some great talent.

{Ed002's Note - The world's best midfield?)

11.) 02 Jul 2023 23:29:59
I think Shabby is referring to it not mattering how good our midfield might be, the defence was pretty rubbish and no midfield can cover over that many cracks, despite that being the common rhetoric on here as it’s easier than daring to say VVD has been poor.
I tend to agree with him. Defence is the major issue for me so I hope VVD and Gomez get back to form and perhaps Sepp make the step up.

12.) 03 Jul 2023 02:20:50
If we play with the ‘inverted double pivot fullback hokey-cokey’ formation we will have Diaz tracking back on the left, Trent stepping up on the right with Mac and Dom stepping back to help Fabs - that will give Ibou, VVD and Robbo more than enough time to store their deck chairs and have a cuppa before any attack becomes a threat.

On a sensible note when we moved to the inverted fb style at the back end of last season we seemed to stop leaking goals, apart from the friendly kick about with Southampton when everyone seemed to have clocked off for their summer hols.

13.) 03 Jul 2023 03:44:29
Crazy how we had Fab and Hendo playing at CB a few seasons ago.

14.) 03 Jul 2023 04:05:38
SolidState, the added midfield reinforcements so far will go a long way to help defensively in my opinion.

Signing a DM would be ideal, of course, but if we don't, having Mac A as a box-to-box and Dom in a similar position or more AM, should help whoever plays holding (Fab, Baj, Hendo) .

The 2 new guys seem to have unlimited energy from what I've seen and both are extremely well-rounded players.

Who do you think are realistic summer signings for us?

I’m becoming of the opinion Amorim may be the best candidate out there for us at the moment in relation to manager.

It’s clear we are sorted now for right back, and most of the forward positions apart from RW if Salah leaves which seems to be likely.

We also need at least one CB though Quansah is an effective Matip replacement. Also LB needs looking at, and DM as well despite Endo’s excellent season.

HessleRedTom1980

1.) 04 Apr 2024 13:09:10
Left sided centre back should be priority, Salah replacement and back up keeper (depending on which academy lads are ready or if Kelleher goes) .

We need a DM. Endo, Bajetic and Trent (in some games) can play there.

We have an excellent array of academy lads as well, so 2 senior players max needed (and a number 2 keeper if needed)

2.) 04 Apr 2024 13:25:35
I think we go big on 3 players:

LCB - Inacio eg

DM - have no preference on this but ideally and established one who can hit the ground running. Koopermeirs maybe?

RW - we need either Salah replacement or someone who is understudy for a year and ready to replace when he goes. I know Sane has been mooted, there’s concerns around his attitude but it was similar when Mane joined, he knows the league and is a good player.

3.) 04 Apr 2024 13:39:29
Matip and Thiago will probably go but Quansah has effectively replaced Matip already and Bajcetic, McConnell and Clark can surely compete to replace Thiago and between them, one of them should be good enough to pick up the 20 minutes he's played this season!

Everything else depends on what system the new manager wants to play, no?

I think we defintely need to do something at left back regardless of who comes in as Robbo is in a sharp physical decline, Gomez isn't natural there and Tsimikas is only back up standard. Other than that you can only speculate until you know who the manager will be and who is leaving. For example:

Amorim, 3-4-3, you probably need 2 more centre backs and a specialist left wing back.

de Zerbi, 4-2-3-1, you probably need a left back and a right winger.

Then also replacing any body else who leaves (rumours circulating about Salah, Diaz, Kelleher, Trent, Virgil etc)

4.) 04 Apr 2024 13:51:33
We can't sign anyone until a new manager comes in and tbh I don't see us signing many. We have the perfect team, any manager can make this team work. Who do we sign to improve? I'm talking be realistic not stupid, who do we sign? We sell Salah, who replaces him? Thiago doesn't need to be replaced, he's done bugger all. Same goes for matip.

Endo is unreal, he doesn't need replacing, having Trent as well, Bradley has took the RB position in my opinion. Trent has to battle it out in midfield but it all goes on who comes in. Tactics etc, I'm going on our current formation which is likely going to change.

As things stand we don't need anybody to come in. Our squad has youngsters ready to step up. Bugger the big transfer fees of whoever the hell, focus on the youngsters, we have talent right there!

5.) 04 Apr 2024 14:01:15
We started the season with 4 CBs - VVD, Matip, Konate and Gomez.

We have been fortunate that Quansah stepped up when Matip had the season ending injury. Gomez is now turning into a very good utility defender.

In effect we are ending the season with 4 CBs.

We need cover for next season - maybe another academy break through or maybe a signing. We may even look at two CBs as VVD is 33 before next season starts and Ibou tends to pick up an injury or two.

We might need a (back-up) keeper depending upon CK’s decision and Adrian probably leaving.

Not sure we need a LB just yet, Robbo and Tsimi aren’t done yet and hopefully Beck or Chambers kicks on into the first team squad.

It seems quite a number of people think Salah will go at the end of the season which I’m not convinced about. If he does I’m sure there’ll be a clamour to buy a replacement. I don’t think we can replace him ‘like for like’ and it might just depend on who the new manager is and how they want to set the team up that influences who we might go after.

6.) 04 Apr 2024 14:56:59
Agree with others. If the new manager wants 3 CBS then CB should be the focus. One or two needed there.

I think we are well stocked in midfield/ DM. Till the year after anyway.

If Salah goes, massive responsibilty and priority to replace him. That's going to be incredibly difficult job to do.

7.) 04 Apr 2024 15:49:51
WDW, I disagree on Robbo. Think we have to move him down the pecking order to be the back up, and I don't think Tsimikas is good enough to start in a title challenging team so I'd move him on entirely. I do however agree with you on Beck and Chambers, as I'd love them to kick on and make it with us. Beck plays as a wing back anyway so potentially could benefit if Amorim was the new manager, and Chambers can play in a back 3 off the left so he could even stake a claim there. I've not seen anything of their loans though so not sure how well they're performing. It would be unbelievable if the academy could produce the goods again!

8.) 04 Apr 2024 16:23:40
Just wondering about signing an extra centre back, which we definitely need, even after the emergence of Quansah, who has been great fair play to him.
Obviously it all depends on who the new manager is, but if it is Amorim, who at the moment plays a 3 at the back (not sure if that is his style or due to players available) but would that mean a less injured Konate? Not sure if playing a back four and covering right back is too much for his hamstrings and size to keep up match after match. Not sure if it's growing pains, but going back to the three he used to play before would suit his fitness.
Again, if we went to 3 at the back, are we signing someone for the lcb position with virgil playing centre of the 3, or does virgil play the left side, which I don't think uses him to the best of his abilities.

9.) 04 Apr 2024 16:58:40
Am I the only person that thinks Alonso is still a possibility to come in the summer?

I just think that he had to say what he said with all the speculation surrounding him as he’s trying to win a treble. He had to keep everyone’s head in the game.

Come the summer things can change fast in football as we all know.

I seem to remember Ed2, who has the best inside knowledge of anyone saying ‘Klopp won’t be coming to Liverpool’ on more than one occasion and then look what happened.

I take anything that said in or to the media with a hefty pinch of salt and just see how things pan out.

10.) 04 Apr 2024 16:59:49
How's that tall (Dutch I think) centre back getting on with his loan.
Miss the carragher bloke who used to do loan updates.

11.) 04 Apr 2024 18:13:54
I’d imagine We will have a few sales and loans this summer as if not the squad will be close to bursting.

12.) 04 Apr 2024 19:07:49
Beckers Pecker, you are the only one who thinks that. Alonso has literally said he has no interest in moving anywhere in the summer. Just let it go, he’s not going to manage us next season. He’ll be at Madrid when Ancelotti goes.

And changingofthegvardiol, Koopmeiners wouldn’t hit the ground running if he tried, he’s slow, overweight, immobile and not all that good, he’s certainly no upgrade on Endo, which does beg the question whether we need a defensive midfielder if Endo is good for another year (which he will be) and Bajcetic is fit next season, so we have two good options available.

13.) 04 Apr 2024 19:08:07
It makes sense to move on from Salah I’m afraid. Time catches up on everyone. This is the season to do it, inevitable transition period. Change in tactics, change manager and coaches. Sell Salah whilst his stock is highest.

I agree we don’t need huge changes in personnel. I think lots of transfers need time to bed in and will put more pressure on the new management regime.

14.) 04 Apr 2024 20:36:37
We don't need any more midfielders note even a DM. We need q salah replacement and a top class CB to also eventually replace virg.

15.) 04 Apr 2024 21:54:31
@MK, fair point about Robbo. I don’t see him as an automatic starter these days but he would be great in the squad - still very good on his day and - like Millie - he has an air of authority and can contribute to the setting of the tone for the squad.

16.) 05 Apr 2024 00:06:05
Exactly that WDW. Look what he did tonight when only asked to give us 30 minutes. He still has the quality, it's just his body that's failing. Injuries creeping in and losing his recovery pace. But that left foot, still a wand! And his leadership is worth his weight in gold.

17.) 05 Apr 2024 01:15:06
What is the point of signing a top class left sided centre back. VVD is there for at least 2 more seasons, the man is back to his best n the captains armband has made him more determined than ever .

18.) 05 Apr 2024 01:17:32
Yeah I agree with you beckers, I'm not going to say he'll come but the thought has also crossed my mind, will he? who knows, none of us do but I have a weird feeling about it. It's like a contract isn't it, not worth a thing nowadays, same goes as somebodys word. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he joined us in the summer.

Mind games to the maximum level and one day when we least expect it he's our manager, press conference time and all that. It's a nice thought atleast lol :) .

The whole club need to wake up and get their house in order, Klopp included. All this stems from not investing when we were at the top, bad squad management and letting a team get old together.

HessleRedTom1980

1.) 15 Aug 2023 09:55:23
It’s terrible this HRT. As soon as we string a few bad results together it’s going to turn very Sour mate.

2.) 15 Aug 2023 10:05:39
I get the feeling klopp will be the architect of his own downfall .
I feel ljinders has a lot to answer for but klopp being a loyal man I can’t see him going after a new coach . He is too egotistical (most top managers are)

For the first time in klopps reign I am doubting his ability to get us out of this il be honest it pains me to say it but this path down the inverted full back role is one that is going to make us worse than better as we don’t have the personnel to master it .

The run we put on end of the season has convinced him it’s the way to go but I feel as if a return of players and pick up in form contributed as much of not more than tactics and formation .

I will gladly be wrong on this and hope it works out but it’s painful watching us at times and Chelsea if they had a better strike force would of beat us Sunday no doubt about it.

3.) 15 Aug 2023 11:47:18
Most of us know that we have investment issues. We'd all like us to spend more and more often.
It's still my club though and I won't look at another.
But I do like what Brighton are doing ?.

4.) 15 Aug 2023 11:49:23
DHFC, I agree that the system is a prob. cos really, we do not have the players to play it and Klopp keeps persisting with it. As for Lijnders, the guy is absolutely nothing without Klopp. He went on his own and struggled badly and Klopp was happy to take him back so his clout is linked to Klopp and nothing more, IMO.

As for us being painful to watch, I think that's a bit OTT. I saw the game last night and frankly, I thought both teams looked vulnerable in transition whenever each lost the ball. Both had their chances to win the game and both teams made defensive mistakes that could have cost them. Can we play better? Of course and so can they. Just my opinion.

5.) 15 Aug 2023 12:01:44
I'll happily be wrong about the hybrid system. But think we'll be proven correct due to it being so reliant on almost perfect execution in possession and transition. Feels that more often than not it will get exposed.

6.) 15 Aug 2023 12:28:33
As annoying as the the last few weeks have been some of you need to pull yourselves together. We are one or two players from an OUTSTANDING squad and first eleven. Give your heads a wobble we’re in a great position.
Yes we have been pants at the last two transfer deals but for the love of the baby Jesus and the little donkey we’re all good ?.

7.) 15 aug 2023 14:25:57
whos the 2 players yo make us outstanding?

12 Aug 2023 22:40:55
Was there a reason we didn’t go for Gvardiol, just not seen as a priority this year?

HessleRedTom1980

1.) 12 Aug 2023 23:43:31
RTP. Ed has answered this repeatedly.

2.) 13 Aug 2023 07:03:37
Done to death, OP.

3.) 13 Aug 2023 08:35:04
That’s a good reason Oli ?.

09 Aug 2023 09:46:09
Most frustrating transfer window since the days of Roy Hodgson where we sold Mascherano and brought in Poulsen - one of the worst ever players to put on a red shirt. Hodgson was dealt a bad hand but made it worse for himself with his mediocrity and narrow mindset.

HessleRedTom1980

1.) 09 Aug 2023 10:26:11
Add to that Paul Konchesky. It should serve as reminder of how bad things were and be grateful for what we have now.

2.) 09 Aug 2023 11:15:14
I know, fancy buying a 23 year old World Cup winner and one of the hottest talents in Europe both in positions we desperately needed - what a mess!

That’s the problem with some new posters - are they trolls trying to wind up our fan base or glory hunters who compare us to clubs who have bottomless pits of cash.

Ed2 says we are looking at bringing in at least one more player and I agree. We had preferred targets and they preferred elsewhere. Get over it. Personally I’m looking forward to a few 4-3 wins hiding behind the back of the sofa….

3.) 09 Aug 2023 11:34:38
We finished 6th that year and 5th the year just gone. Hardly much difference.

4.) 09 Aug 2023 11:59:20
Making such comparisons is ludicrous OneKiss.

5.) 09 Aug 2023 12:45:20
Mascherano wanted to leave and forced his way out. We had no cash due to our then-owners and had to literally scrape the bottom of the barrel for players to cover holes. We were a sinking ship back then and all our good players wanted out. I don't think it is comparable to the situation we have now.

6.) 09 Aug 2023 13:43:15
The transfer window hasn't closed yet!
What did some of you do at half time when we were 3-0 in Istanbul?

7.) 09 Aug 2023 14:29:24
@ijj

It’s getting very hard to tell the difference!

I can’t even begin to understand how this window can be as worse a window as that one… bearing in mind we have had summer windows since where we haven’t really signed anyone!

Are people really not happy with Mac Alister and Szoboszlai? I think they’re great additions.

8.) 09 Aug 2023 16:30:16
Rigsby, they walked away spouting the same hyperbolic stuff you just read and went to bed. Only to find out the next morning that we came back from the dead and won Ol’ Big Ears. Just a guess, btw.

With posts like the OP and OneKiss, I wonder how these were holding up when we hadn’t won the title in 30 years and won a League Cup in 13 years from ‘06 to ‘19 when we win Ol’ Big Ears in Madrid.

07 Aug 2023 20:25:14
I’m puzzled why we didn’t go in for Gvardiol. He’s a generational talent, surely it would have been worth paying for that. We know the defence is a problem area. I know the answer may be around finances, but it still puzzles me why we don’t go for a chap who could play for the club for a decade.

HessleRedTom1980

1.) 07 Aug 2023 20:53:32
Maybe the player wanted CL football. Can’t blame him really.

2.) 07 Aug 2023 20:55:57
I do, he was £80m.

3.) 07 Aug 2023 20:59:17
Imagine our transfer budget if we didn’t have all this prize money and record sponsorship from the last 5 seasons.

4.) 07 Aug 2023 21:09:54
Prize peanuts jk mate.

5.) 07 Aug 2023 22:14:07
It’s Orite. That record Nike deal will kick in soon, along with that mega Investment.

6.) 07 Aug 2023 22:41:55
well, if y'all convince yourselves that it's because we didn't want to spend the money then what is the point in this conversation.

7.) 07 Aug 2023 23:14:22
Because Klopp would have to drop Robertson and he just doesn’t have it in him to drop his favourites. We got very lucky Henderson and Milner wanted to leave. Robertson bombing up and down the line is still good but he’s awful in this current system where he has to tuck in as a 3rd CB.

8.) 08 Aug 2023 00:40:37
The three box three needs to go. We don’t have the players for it and we don’t have the money to buy the players for it.

I think it’s time for Salah to go, and it’s clear we need another centre half as well as a left back.

Think we are running on fumes which is part of the problem and we’ve lost confidence since the Utd cup defeat.

Klopp has been incredible for us most of the time. I do think he was too loyal to ageing players, plus we seem
To have had injury crises. I think it’s time for a change he looks tired. A break will do him and us good.

8 trophies is a great haul. Best in 30 odd years, it would have been more if we weren’t against state sponsored clubs with one fabulous manager.
