I'm sure it's a pipedream, but is there any hope that Salah and Robertson could change their stances on leaving if a new manager is confirmed?

Although I do think they still have the skill to contribute on the pitch under a better manager, I really think their leadership off the pitch would be crucial for whipping the team into shape before next season. Seeing those two give their all during fitness training could be the motivation that gets the whole squad back in shape fast.

I'm a little worried about the exodus of senior squad members in general. Obviously it has to happen as some point, but all at once after a terrible season with a massive rebuild because of a clueless manager who couldn't get the best out of anyone AND all for free is really concerning to me.

Luis Diaz wasn't leaving if his wages were doubled. He wasn't forcing his way out. He wanted a lot more money which he's getting at Bayern.
We all justified it because he was "28 and it's a good deal".
In hindsight, with the enormous contracts giving out to basically everyonelse since then, you question how badly we are being ran.
Would Diaz be significantly changing our play? No, but he's better than Gakpo and grav who imo, will not be fancied by a top manager.

Out of all the extravagant contracts given to a lot of players, with even Konates sitting to be signed, it's crazy now thinking about Diaz.
A player should not be guaranteed to have his wages doubled when they're already on very good money after 1 good season or heading into Trent territory.
We have how many players now close to 300k and upwards?! Where's the game changers and superstars warranting those wages? They're not in this Liverpool squad.

He wanted out and wanted out for a while.
He wasn't exactly amazing for us anyway.
Blame the club for not replacing him, rather than for not trying to desperately cling onto him.

BS - Lucho's agent had been publicly courting Barcelona and his dad said he wants Lucho at Barca.
Liverpool were never doubling his pay after he signed a 5 year deal at 4 times his previous deal when he joined.
We negotiated a good salary hike, but the offer from Bayern was a bit too much to resist.

People are blinded by his numbers, which are great, but in a shockingly bad league defensively this season. Bundesliga bottom 5 have conceded a record 300++ goals in this season combined!!! And Bayern have had cherry pickings, scoring 100 themselves!

Yeah, this revisionist history with Diaz is overdone at this point. He was extremely frustrating to watch at times. He had moments of brilliance, but would so often have poor end product.

Diaz wanted out and we got a good deal. Problem is we didn't sign any wingers, so we now have a front line devoid of pace. Diaz was/is very good, but he was always a downgrade on Mane and easily replaceable if we made the effort to sign a wide player, ie Semenyo, Fofana, etc. There are plenty out there.

Hindsight is great and it's unfortunate that he has hit his peak this season, but, at the end of the day, we got a massive amount of money for a 28 year old winger heavily reliant on pace.

We might want to have him this season, but would we want him in two or three years when he's declined? He will become a headache for Bayern then.

I say we made a safe and sensible decision.

Snugglepool, the revisionist history on here is rife at the moment. There's really no need for it, people don't need to fudge history to support the argument that Slot and Hughes etc need to go.

Does anyone else feel that we need to add a reasonably experienced centre-back with leadership capabilities in the summer?

With one year left of Virgil, the prospect of the partnership Jacquet and Leoni seems way too green for me. And I would not trust Konate to lead a back-line.

If you agree, who do you think would be a good choice?

I'd take Senesi on a free.

Agree, No.8.

Lacroix or Murillo if Forest go down.

Just watched the Arsenal v Bournemouth game, and I was wondering if Iraola would be a better fit for us. I enjoy watching them play.

I haven't seen much of Alonso's team play though so I would like to ask those who have, does his team play in a similar style?

I know he is likely the chosen one so I hope his brand of football is a good watch.

Iraola would be my choice of the managers that are realistically available.

1

11 Apr 2026 16:26:19
I think he's a great manager, the only question mark would be is his style of play sustainable for a team in Europe. Bournemouth play about 42 games per season, a successful Liverpool team would probably play about 60 games.

Top manager, and would be a risk, but I feel no more risky than Alonso. His style of play is attacking football, which we are more used to than Slot's possession-based bore fest... And Alonso does like a possession based game, I believe. I'd give him a chance, Iriola.

Haven't had the heart to post most of this season. It's been so bad. Just watched Arsenal v Bournemouth. Really impressed by Areola in his team set up, tactics and the way he talks about the game after. Closest to Klopp playing style I have seen and wonderful to watch.

Iroala is the best choice for me outside Klopp/Enrique, who are non runners anyway.

I think Iraola is superb and a better, but less acknowledged, manager than his mates Arteta and Alonso. Iraola's contract ends this season, and he has a good relationship with Hughes. Maybe we are waiting for him and not Alonso.

Watched Ars v Bou

It's fantastic what Iraola has done with that team!

Even after losing Huijsen, Zabarnyi, Kerkez, Semenyo, Ouattara since last season, they play fantastic, progressive football.

Against Arsenal they had fantastic shape, crazy work ethic across the pitch and a clear plan. They didn't look one bit scared of playing the current top of the table team at their own stadium.

Broke and attacked fast in a disciplined way when they needed to and defended hard when they had to. The whole team is crazy fit and you can tell they all fight for each other and for the manager.

A well deserved 2-1 to them. 👏

I would not be worried at all if for some reason we couldn't get Alonso and we went in for Iraola. For a moment he took me back to prime LFC under Kloppo.

Said we should move for him last year before Alonso was available. Alex Scott is a talent we should be all over for midfield.

Rather Alex Scott than Macca.

Keegans, he was great in the game. Very confident and calm under the pressure for a fairly young player. Kroupi is a talent too and their FBs were excellent.

Richard Hughes is a fan of him & brought him to Bournemouth (even though we're not fans of Hughes), although Hughes might depart in summer. I suppose not beyond the realms of possibility is the fact that Iraola's contract is up in summer is reason Slot is still here.

I suppose one down side is he's never managed a big club, but of course gotta start somewhere.
I'd be happy with either Alonso or him. But TBH I'd rather Mr Blobby be in charge next season than Slot.

Iraola is great. If Arsenal had him at the helm they'd be champions.

3

11 Apr 2026 15:32:16
He is the closest to Klopp's style imo.
He would be my pick.
Sad that the reports suggest he's off to ManU.

If Arsenhole had Homer Simpson as manager, they would have been champions by now... that's how bad everyone else has been, but Lego Head is so obsessed in the dark arts that they actually forget about what's important at times.

Nothing against Alonso and would be happy to have him as our manager next season. But all I can say is that Iraola will make us enjoy football again. It may be frustrating at times, but the football is definitely going to be progressive, and I have no doubt about it.

I know our season has been a car crash (let's face it from the first game against Bournemouth when one of our fans racially abused Semenyo the omens were not good). But watching the capitualtion of Arsenal is magnificent.

The quadruple is on, the quadruple bottle. City will win their remaining 8 games and win the league. It's what they do. How many times have we had to sit hoping they drop points in April and May and they simply do not.

They just keep on winning. I can't stand 115 charges FC but the Arseandall fans have been intolerable this season. City will win a treble and Bayern will win the CL. I cannot imagine the excuses the Arsenal fans will have for that. It's beautiful to watch. Martin Keown stubling for answers post match is so funny. As Liverpool are so awful right now it's the only joy I've had this season.

Was watching Ars v Bou and the commentator said, according to historical statistics, April is Arsenal's worst month under Arteta and City's best under Pep!

I would die hearing that if I was an Arsenal fan!

There are 60,000 people inside Anfield. I don't think the actions of one idiot are reflective of the club at all. The club always acts accordingly when it happens.

City will definitely win the league. Always fancied them to do so. Arsenal will Champions League.

1

11 Apr 2026 15:50:29
I can't see Arsenal beating either Bayern or PSG.

Great interview with Rio on Sky, asking him questions. Seems we have a huge talent on our hands.

11 Apr 2026 12:46:48
Just how much of a c*** up was it not bringing in Guehi and Semenyo in January? Both doing fantastic at City.

4

11 Apr 2026 14:57:27
And they would have been awful in this team more than likely. Good for them

11 Apr 2026 15:02:52
They're good compared to our recent activity in the transfer market, but pretty meh compared to our historic activity. We can definitely do better if we get our act together.
