HMRC To investigate Man City to see if they paid the correct amount of Tax and NI
Over the 9 year period.

Now they have a big problem. This could well lead to jail time.

You can't flin flan the tax man.

Not that simple, Stoneage; it's about where the money came from, where it went, and how it was categorised, i. e the Mancini double contract scandal, he was recieving payments on a second contract 'from Al-Jazeera', which has now been deemed a sham, City paid him those wages, and they didn't pay tax on them, we have no idea how many more of their deals may contain tax 'discrepancies', but given there's almost £1 billion worth of dodgey dealings, I'm willing to bet the Mancini deal isn't the only one.

City Made no sufficient organic income. The club actually made buttons. They afforded the calibre of player's they attained through their own pockets covering it as "sponsorship". Look at the clubs in recent times punished for breaking the rules regarding spending and income. Newcastle, Everton and villa forced to sell and not able to buy. They remain stagnant.

If pep wasn't working with top player's in nearly every position and the club attracting those player's with massive contracts, peps way would have been no way to success.

Remember, we wanted Bellingham and couldn't essentially afford him because we needed to recruit in other positions too.

When Liverpool needed a top striker, I remember Klopp saying city can go and just buy the best striker on the market which was Halland at the time. He was stating what we and everyone else was up against.
City have been buying the best player's in the market by cheating and breaking rules other clubs have had to abide by.

So yes I'd absolutely be questioning just how good pep is during his tenure at city. He certainly wasn't great at Bayern.
Pep is an excellent coach but soo was Klopp. Klopp got the best out of good to very good player's, making some world class. City bought whoever and whenever pep wanted more player's. When there was actually no money to spend.
Man city are a disgraceful set up.

Pep has only ever managed clubs with unfettered access to top players but his innovative ways of coaching should be recognised. For those innovations to work he needed the best players in the world which is why I think it's legitimate to question his achievements.

It was well reported at the time that the fees to sign haaland plus signing fee plus his dad's fee was close to 150 million. Not sure how true that was.

The Prime Minister shouldn't be speaking up on behalf of City's owners. Can hardly claim to be impartial given their investment into his beloved Manchester.

That is how I read the post. Burhham's support for Hillsborough was against a backdrop of lies and deceit which was a national scandal. Much like the Man City fiasco. He has no right to speak up for Man City's owners. He needs re remain impartial. At least in public.

A fine - of almost any size - is almost pointless. Won't touch the sides.

Transfer ban - again, soft touch - especially given that City apparently had a heads up in the summer (why? ) and then went on another staggering spending spree.

Points deduction - would need to be big enough to ensure relegation but even then, they'll still be back the year after next and straight back to competing for the title.

For me, it has to be all titles won since the cheating began to be erased. City cannot be allowed to keep their place in the record books. Then I would like to see some collaboration between the FA and the Football League that keeps City out of the Premier League long enough that current players leave, they face years out of Europe, they lose all the tv revenue and prize money and can't easily rebuild. Then, if the current owners are still around after all that, they are scrutinised heavily in everything that they do.

A strong message will need to be sent. I can't see trophies being stripped, but I do think a massive fine, huge points deduction will be in order. Don't underestimate how much that would hurt a club with a very limited fan base (in comparison to actual big clubs like RM, Utd, LFC, Barca, BM, Arsenal etc.

I assume the appeal will be about both the findings and the sanctions. There is a possibility that sanctions maybe acceptable given the findings? According to reports the outcome of the appeal will be published in January ( after the winter transfer window) so we haven't got long to wait.

If it doesn't go cites way looks like they will try and bring the Premier League down to preserve their own skins. Another reason why the owners need to go.

The breach of Premier League regulations is staggering. However the real challenge for City will be explaining to their auditors and HMRC how their actions are not illegal. Those who lied to the independent panel must have also lied to the above and are therefore likely to face criminal charges. The aggressive rebuttal from the owners will open up further concerns.

If the owners have evidence to refute the charges why didn't they submit the evidence to the enquiry? Is it incompetence or corruption or both? Maybe City fans need to think about politely asking the owners to get out of their club. I remember when City was a proper club.
