Lads, I have to disagree with those who say Jed Spence is not a good player.
This lad proves people wrong wherever and whenever he plays. He's a grafter, gets stuck in, has a massive engine and is absolutely rapid.
We could do far worse.
I've no idea what some people are talking about sometimes. "He's not good enough for us" just like Marc Gighi wasn't a good enough defender? Ffs we had Ibou as our center half at the time!
Jed Spence it's a yes from me. ?
{Ed025's Note - i like him as well Chrisy..

I agree, I like the player and the negative slates on here are way over the top as normal.
06 Aug 2026 12:25:02
Marc Guehi also is good, very good, but he's not an elite cb. Just because he went to City doesn't mean he is. I would have been very happy if we got him, but equally not that bothered we didn't.
06 Aug 2026 12:45:15
Yeah ED25 for a toffee team maybe, not a team looking for the big trophies
{Ed025's Note - he looks good to me Fingals and can play either side which is a plus, he has got speed and can take on his man so i dont know whats not to like mate, whether you will be looking for big trophies?...we shall wait and see..
06 Aug 2026 17:37:16
Maybe if his name was Jed Spencinho he'd be seen as a quality player.
06 Aug 2026 14:45:55
We can look at them Ed, they are all in our cabinet.
{Ed025's Note - sorry BK...i dont do ancient history mate.. :)
06 Aug 2026 17:34:49
Very diplomatic Ed25.
I come back to my point. Guehi at that money was a steel. Hughes fccd that up! For gods sake we had Konate playing centre back all year! People actualy saying MG wasn't good enough really didn't have a clue. Same with Spence. I know nothing about him as a person. But when the lad puts his boots on to do his job he gives it 100% everytime. Some spurs supporters only seen him as a squad player 2 years ago. He is first on the team sheet now, and they would be gutted if he left. I would also say that he was one of the only spurs players with a backbone last year.
{Ed025's Note - he had a good WC as well Chrisy and if the price is what they are saying i think its a no brainer mate..
06 Aug 2026 19:58:31
I don't think he's awful, I don't think he's great either. I wouldn't be disappointed or excited if we signed him. Bit of a 'meh' player in my opinion.
I suppose he adds to the HG numbers and can't be worse at RB than JF, but I think Bradley has a higher ceiling.
06 Aug 2026 08:14:34
Morning all.
I’m as concerned as everyone else with our perceived squad deficiencies but wanted to reevaluate with a positive outlook for balance.
GK - Ali takes well to the new manager with a new training regime designed to minimise any ongoing injury risks. Marma plays domestic cup games and the odd PL if Ali’s injury risk is assessed as moderate/high.
RB - Frimpong starts the season backed up by Ramsay. Links well with Wirtz when attacking and defends adequately when required. Ramsay gets the last 20mins occasionally and does well. Bradley returns earlier than expected by Christmas and stays fit for the rest of the season.
CB - Virg has no obvious decline and stays injury free. Jacquet hits the ground running and consistently performs at 7/10 and his pace adds a new dimension. Gomez returns in Sep to provide cover and Leoni recovers well and is available in late Autumn.
LB - Kerkez rediscovers his verve under AI and consistently delivers overlapping attacks and crosses for Isak to attack. AI brings a new composure to his game, aided by a more structured midfield.
MID - Gravenberch returns to the 6 of the title winning season and with coaching from AI understands the importance of discipline and the limitations of the role.
Dom dovetails perfectly with Grav giving us both solidity and line breaking. Goes onto have his best season yet recording double figures in goals and assists.
Wirtz finally settles under a manager that knows his value and how to utilise it. The team consistently find him with balls to feet and he becomes the heartbeat of the team. Another with double figures in goals/assists.

Nice to be optimistic but it's just not realistic lol. What about when Isak gets the inevitable groin/leg injury? Jacquet hasn't played football in like 6 months and isn't even in training. Gomez ain't good enough and nobody can convince me otherwise, Leoni is coming back from a season ending injury.
What happens if Kerkez gets injured? I can go on and on, the point is the squad is thin and time is running out.
06 Aug 2026 08:50:30
KopEnd, not to be pedantic, but Jacquet was in training yesterday.
06 Aug 2026 09:14:32
Well, from reading "This Is Anfield" it stated that Jacquet was absent from training, so not too sure what's going on there then.
06 Aug 2026 09:31:02
Somebody said something about him changing his haircut and people just not recognising him in training.
06 Aug 2026 09:50:16
Oh that explains it... Crisis over then I guess. Unless the haircut is that bad.
06 Aug 2026 10:24:11
Yeah, he took his braids out so he had a big afro. I think he's been mistaken for Ndukwe in the training videos/photos.
06 Aug 2026 10:39:43
Pompey Rouge - a nice dose of optimism. Something this rumour site (and especially the many doom mongers) needs.
KopEnd1 - the voice of most - negative and pessimistic!
Remember when we bought no one and then went on to win the league?
Come on, you reds!
06 Aug 2026 11:15:59
What about when Isak stays fit and bangs in 40 goals? I understand the frustration at certain squad weaknesses, but this worrying about the worst that can happen is pessimistic for the sake of it. We had an unlucky season last year with injuries, could happen again this year, but we could also have a lovely season where all our injury prone players turn into James Milners and are like tanks for the next 9 months.
? Let's be positive, Red men.
06 Aug 2026 11:34:46
But Gomez is already injured. And both young ones are returning from injury. It would be so naive to not sign at least one person to cover.
06 Aug 2026 12:00:40
@ MK Scouser, that is the nicest thing anyone has said about me on this site! Thanks, bro.
06 Aug 2026 12:41:38
@duffer, I was meant to aim that at.

05 Aug 2026 20:22:05
Alonso wasn't offered the job.
05 Aug 2026 20:15:08
Did we offer it?
05 Aug 2026 21:01:17
I don't think he didn't come because of the messy off the field stuff, although he will have known there were issues.
He wanted managerial control which Chelsea offered, we wanted another head coach.
05 Aug 2026 21:07:11
Wish we were like Chelsea.
05 Aug 2026 21:07:30
When Iraola was unveiled and journos asked Alonso about it, he pretty much said that he ended up at Chelsea because of timings. Basically sounded like he was saying that he wanted the Liverpool job but it wasn't available at the time.
05 Aug 2026 21:37:54
Sounds like a whiny kid at the head of this thread. We don't have our shiny toys yet.
I still believe the ItKs that things are being worked on, and the next couple of weeks will set us up.
Will we all like all of the players? Probably not. But I think (hope) that the craziness of 5 years ago will not be repeated.
Let's see what happens.
05 Aug 2026 21:51:08
There is no reality where I wish we were like Chelsea.
05 Aug 2026 23:13:55
I was being sarcastic, Mickey. Apologies, it obviously didn't land.
06 Aug 2026 10:40:23
Alonso would have given both testicles to get the job... #fact #quoteme.
06 Aug 2026 12:37:46
Haha, he didn't want the Liverpool job but ended up at Chelsea. ?
Could you imagine the meltdown on here if we were resigning Henderson and Danny Welback!!
06 Aug 2026 15:55:39
We would not have needed JH or Welbeck because they were signed for their experience in the nursery, we don't need such things.
07 Aug 2026 00:19:30
If he was desperate enough to take the Chelsea job he sure as hell would've taken the Liverpool job in a heartbeat if offered it, but he wasn't offered the job.
Also, remember he left us hanging once before when he went to Real Madrid?
I don't think the club wanted him after that, even though his agent was trying hard to land him the Liverpool job.
05 Aug 2026 13:14:32

05 Aug 2026 14:20:32
Kessie on a free 2 year contract would be a decent signing actually would add some combativity Im our midfield.
05 Aug 2026 14:42:32
Sancho's career decline is shocking.
05 Aug 2026 15:35:20
Fekir.....
05 Aug 2026 16:30:14
Big money too early killed Sancho - he thought he had made it when he joined them helmets down the motorway.
05 Aug 2026 17:15:13
A whole lotta dross in that list.
I don't think that Kessie ever recovered from being sent to the shops by Bjg Nat.
05 Aug 2026 17:33:09
Adama Traore. Not for footballing ability, just have him run through people to create space. Use him like a battering ram. Put him on a commission-based contract. He only gets paid if we score a goal as a direct result of him taking out opposing defenders.
05 Aug 2026 19:21:49
I would snap your arm off for Carvajal. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
06 Aug 2026 08:26:22
Cripes!
I didn't realise that Sterling was considered a footballer!
06 Aug 2026 15:56:47
I would take Vlahovic, just to offer something different if needed and has a resale value if it doesn't work out.
05 Aug 2026 12:36:30
Saw this from a Late Challenge Podcast clip I completely agree with:
"Right back Conor Bradley. I like Conor Bradley. I think he's a good player. I like his aggression. I think he brings something different to the team, however, he left the Emirates on crutches wearing a knee brace on January the 8th, 6 months and 26 days ago.
Two midfielders have played right back since then and it was no secret then or now that the injury was a bad one and there's still no return date for him. Now further than that as well... In 3 seasons, Bradley's had 9 injuries and according to TransferMarket, missed 83 games. He's also only played in 45 Premier League games for Liverpool. And how many times has he finished 90 minutes in that time in those 45 appearances? 7. He's finished 90 minutes for Liverpool in the Premier League 7 times!
Now, Konate. Konate played a lot last season whether you liked him or not. He was a regular, a first choice. He was confirmed to be leaving Liverpool on May the 29th, 66 days ago.
Virgil played the most games in Europe and the most games in his career and he's 35. 6,141 over 69 appearances for club and country, an average of 89 minutes per game. So we've got a lot out of a 35 year old there and can he go again? Can he play those minutes again? I'm sure he'll try but it's not ideal.
Then you've got Leoni. Loks good, looks great. Colossus all of these kind of things great. He's 19. Jacquet never played in the Premier League before. He's 21 and we've not even seen him yet in preseason.
Gomez has had 25 injuries in 11 years at Liverpool. Great fellow, great player when fit. Not someone you can rely on.
Marc Guehi, we tried to get Marc Guehi, made a video that he's come to Liverpool. That deal collapsed on September the 1st 2025, 11 months and 2 days ago.
My point is clear and obvious. What are we doing and why haven't we done it yet? What are we waiting for? Where's the planning? What is the plan? What's going on?"
Crazy when you look at some of those numbers.

05 Aug 2026 15:31:18
Too obvious and sensible, Greg. The relaxed brigade will come on and shoot you down. Give Hughes and Co more time, it's unreasonable to expect them to have filled the gaps by now!
05 Aug 2026 15:32:35
We bought Jacquet.
We bought Leoni.
We spent a hell of a lot of money on both.
Two young centre backs the club think are good enough to play.
By the way, you can't play in a league until you sign for a team in that league.
Most new signings won't have player in the league.
The lads were bought to play for Liverpool.
That's the plan.
05 Aug 2026 19:06:35
Bradley finishing 90 mins only 7 struck me. Like the lad, but if he's gonna stick around we have to have someone reliable there too.
05 Aug 2026 22:47:34
What do you expect when imbeciles run the club.
06 Aug 2026 12:47:13
Florian, his injuries are definitely a concern. Personally, I would be worried about him ever being a regular now.
Do always think of stats logically, though. He had a terrible injury last season and he didn't start many games before that because Trent did.
So, even in the rare games he did, he'd not have had full match fitness, and also would have been just taken off because he was a 2nd choice reserve player.
05 Aug 2026 11:51:55
The Barcola price tag is a massive issue and PSG don't want to budge on their valuation.
If the deal gets done, it'll be late in the window.
Liverpool working on a Spanish Right Back as well.
I have nothing on Mbaye.

Arnau Martinez, I'm guessing is the Spanish RB?
05 Aug 2026 12:06:04
What was this bad news happening in 48 hours a week or so ago, by the way?
05 Aug 2026 12:07:23
Just get Mbaye instead if they won't give up on silly money for Barcola.
05 Aug 2026 12:11:10
According to one of our itk's, the deal for Barcola is agreed but PSG don't want it to be made known yet?
Every day someone else is coming in with different info.
05 Aug 2026 12:21:16
Sorry, don't believe the Barcola info as it contradicts other posters on the site who have a track record.
Thanks for sharing, though.
Martinez looks to be an interesting option, and one that has a very low (and therefore low risk) fee at 8m Euros.
This deal (if it happens) and the Munoz deal are what I have missed from our transfers of late! It's great getting huge players like Isak and Wirtz (or should I say, known players with huge transfer fees) and indeed Barcola, as it shows we can compete with the world's best teams in the transfer market.
But deals like Munoz, Martinez, to a certain degree Ekitike and Chiesa in the past, come out of left field, just get announced and by and large tend to be gems being unearthed.
05 Aug 2026 12:32:11
I am getting nervous about the Barcola transfer... I do believe Robbo and VG that it is a done deal but until I see him in the red of Liverpool there is always that doubt.
Martinez would be a good signing, we need 2/3 of those squad players alongside a couple of marquee signings like (fingers crossed) Barcola.
05 Aug 2026 12:33:13
We seem to have stood completely still for more than half the transfer window because of a failed Diomande deal and an iffy Barcola deal.
05 Aug 2026 12:42:01
It's not done.
DjimiT.
05 Aug 2026 12:52:33
Sorry DjimiT, looking at your past posts, there's no track record here. So, I maintain my view on Barcola based on other posters.
05 Aug 2026 12:55:28
Barcola is done in nearly every sense of the word. It would be hilariously naive for people to think that deals are sometimes not completed quite a while before the media announces it.
05 Aug 2026 13:01:49
VG, thanks for that. Just a query, if a deal is concluded on all aspects, what is the reasoning to delay an announcement? If it's the winger they are trying to get in, would that deal be done and not announced the same way?
05 Aug 2026 13:02:30
As well as trusted itk on here, I tend to believe ITK Space, aka Bayern Space on Liverpool News, as he hasn't let me down yet, and he has said the Barcola deal is sealed and final price around 100m.
05 Aug 2026 13:03:09
Tanks VG.
05 Aug 2026 13:03:18
If you like to play 4D chess, like our directors clearly do, perhaps Barcola fee being kept quiet for as long as possible suits both Liverpool and PSG in terms of the rest of their transfer negotiations. There would obviously have to be a lot of trust between the two clubs for that to be possible, of course.
05 Aug 2026 13:03:29
Sorry, original poster, but you're wrong.
Official announcement is all that awaits.
Cheers.
05 Aug 2026 13:07:03
This is getting silly now. One day, the deal is done. The next, it's done but we're ironing out a few details. After that, oh, PSG are moving the goal posts, and then after that, we may drop interest. The narrative changes like the wind. I get that this is a rumours site, and I'm not bashing the OP per se, but this window has seen a 3000% increase in so called ITK posters giving the low down. There's only one truth, yet about 50 different scenarios of the same subject all being reported on by different "ITK's" at once. A new one comes on here daily, it seems. And then, if it doesn't go as they reported it, the get out of jail free card comes out, oh yeah, but things change in football. Yeah, ok. 10 new ITK's per day makes for tedious reading. Either be genuine (because let's face it, 99% are not), or sod off and stop yearning for likes. It's borderline spam at this point. Sorry, but rant over.
05 Aug 2026 13:09:47
Tanks, Robbo!
05 Aug 2026 13:11:10
Hoping for the best and prepared for the worst.
05 Aug 2026 13:12:29
Don't believe a word of it, op, you're just looking for attention. None of what you've posted in your last few messages has come to anything. Genuine interest in Fernandez-Pardo, apparently heard no one mention it but you, and then 48 hours for bad news and nothing reported to date. Try a little harder. I'll trust Robbo, Carra, TF and Ned, thanks.
05 Aug 2026 13:13:56
Good info, Djimi. All info is welcome.
Cheers Robbo.
Everyone has an opinion and different information.
Increase the peace.
05 Aug 2026 13:17:40
Bulk, it kinda depends whose posts you read?
Robbo, VG and TheFields (and Ned IIRC?) have all been pretty consistent on this, not chopping and changing every day.
However, the Twitterati seem to chop and change - it's almost like they are looking for clicks, and likes and subscribes and love in general, wouldn't you say?
So, the other posters on here who like to post in the ITK style, are predominantly regurgitating stuff from social media.
So, maybe block everyone else other than 3-4 posters, and then you will get a consistent narrative.
05 Aug 2026 13:25:32
Btw, it's, sadly, always the same on here during school holidays which, unfortunately, coincide with the 2 transfer windows!
Also, every year I get grumpier as I get older, so it irritates me more!
That's clearly a me thing that I will work very hard on!
Ooooohmmmmm.
05 Aug 2026 13:32:15
Put it this way, if it was done I would 100% know about it.
I fully expect it to be done, but as of now it is not done.
Negotiations have been ongoing for weeks, and have been difficult due to PSG stance.
That has to change, and as of now it has not.
Anyone saying it is done is chancing it, so they can say, told you it was done.
DjimiT.
05 Aug 2026 13:40:04
It's already late in the window, op, to the point where I'm starting to panic. Hughes has had months to get this window right.
05 Aug 2026 12:21:42
Just ignore this kind of garbage. You know who to trust here and it most certainly is not DjimiT. Just rubbish speak.
05 Aug 2026 12:27:03
Joyce is the one to pay most attention to. Can anyone paste in what he said on the situation? I really think we need both
05 Aug 2026 13:43:29
Thanks Robbo and VG, maybe impossible to answer but any idea when Barcola will be announced?
05 Aug 2026 13:44:13
. ?????
05 Aug 2026 14:36:47
Of course, you would know Djimi. ? You must have a seat on the board or something, which I very much doubt.
I believe Robbo and VG when they say it's done.
The reason why it may not have been announced is to allow PSG to get their replacements first.
Thus potentially allowing us to get a deal that's better suited to us. You know, like the failed Guehi bid last summer. Which fell apart due to CP not being able to get a replacement in time.
05 Aug 2026 14:43:39
"If it was done I would 100% know about it."
That's a brash claim. People won't forget that one. I suggest a touch of modesty going forward, Djimi, mate.
05 Aug 2026 15:27:29
Djimi is Barcola.
05 Aug 2026 15:49:39
Everyone needs to chill with the it's done, it's not done stuff.
A few who have given reliable information in the past have said, over and over, it is all but done. Who knows exactly why it isn't completed.
Let's hope it's done, and, more importantly, he's successful if he does sign.
And, if the deal does fall through, remember, until he's signed his name on a Liverpool contract, the selling club holds all the power.
For instance, if PSG have even the slightest worry of losing another star winger, they have every right to hold off until certain.
It won't be Robbo or Vics' fault for giving their true info at the time they gave it.
05 Aug 2026 16:06:57
Robbo, The Fields and VG were saying Slot was gone when many on here were saying he was staying. So I'm choosing to believe these guys on track record.
Now I'm not saying anyone's wrong or right, as I'm waiting for an announcement before I can breathe a sigh of relief.
05 Aug 2026 17:06:27
Sorry Djimi, you may be right and you have every right to post any information you have. But unfortunately this forum gets trolls posting on here a lot with false info, so until what happens, happens we won't know. But we all know things can change rapidly.
You can look at my past posts, I was told 100% Alonso was going to be our next manager..... we all know how that turned out. :)
VG, Robbo, Carra, TheFields (though I know TheFields didn't post re Barcola in this instance) and Macca have a history and in some cases legendary status on here, so we are going to give their info more credence than yours.
You posting "Put it this way, if it was done I would 100% know about it." doesn't help your case, as nobody can know everything and nobody is right all the time, as all the others acknowledge their info could change in an instant.
Again, I am not having a go, I do hope your info is wrong as I want Barcola at the club, but will acknowledge you if you turn out to be correct.
05 Aug 2026 11:27:16

The problem Bekind, is people posting either made up stuff or from social media/clickbait sites and passing it off as their own. That is the poison that has infected the site, not people taking them down who have been regulars on this forum for a long time.
As long as its not personal, I don't see a problem with calling people out in their BS.
05 Aug 2026 08:06:38
If we bring in Barcola and Mbaye, do we need to move on two non homegrown players, say Chiesa and Gakpo?
Agree1
Disagree0
05 Aug 2026 08:41:02
Barcola takes up a non-HG place in the Champions League A-list squad, and in the Premier League 25 man squad.
Mbaye is slightly different, as in the Champions League he will still take a non-HG slot in the A-list, but in the Premier League he is just considered an u21 and does not take up a squad slot.
I think, if we sign them, that is the end of Gakpo and Chiesa at Liverpool anyway. They're both 27/28 years old. They're not going to want to be second fiddle at this stage of their careers, when they both will be targeting the 2028 Euros for Holland and Italy respectively.
05 Aug 2026 09:57:37
Surely, Gakpo will take Ekitike's place in the squad until January.
05 Aug 2026 10:33:54
I'd imagine one if not more of our wingers could cover there, Kemlyn. Or the likes of Danns, Koumas.
05 Aug 2026 13:47:58
Mbaye is only 18, so that doesn't take up a non-HG place I believe. Also, if he has played here for 3 years by the time he is 21, he would then count as HG. Makes this a smart signing for both now and future squad proofing.
06 Aug 2026 09:55:14
MoT, you're right for the EPL, but not the UCL.
However, we can always drop players from the UCL squad - for example, no need for Ekitike until the squad refresh in Jan.
05 Aug 2026 07:58:02
Morning guys, thank you to all the posters, I love reading these rumours and appreciate you all sharing your bits of info etc. Hopefully the rumours are correct and we’ll see the PSG wingers join asap...
Can anyone shed any light on whether we are actually looking at adding defensive cover to the squad? I think we desperately need an experienced CB to take some of the weight off Virg and the RB position looks weak to me.
Personally I'd welcome Trent back on a season loan with option to buy. Yes he left under a cloud but he would offer us much more than we’re currently getting. His crossing & dead ball skills alone would help our attackers...
Any insight on potential targets?
Agree1
Disagree0
05 Aug 2026 11:47:46
Season long loan for Trent would be a great bit of business, I think he would want to fight Dumfries for his place in the Madrid team though.
