Awful last season but under a different coach he could've regained his past form, an international player leaving on a free.
I maybe don't understand what's happening behind the scenes but seems a loss to me.

Agree, Clee
The amount of money we've let walk out of the door is criminal.

How do you propose we keep any player who doesn't agree to a contract extension?

Open to ideas.....

Interesting that the first two player comments thanking Slot are from Virgil & Gravenberch the Dutch connection - obviously Gakpo wrote his cut in from the left and missed Twitter & Instagram by a mile.

First post in 5 years - still lurking and thanks to all Eds over the last 15 years

Curtis Jones has also posted.

Curtis' "respect you as a man" feels like a bit of a snide comment. Suggests that he doesn't respect him as a coach. It would have looked better to just leave it at the "thank you and all the best" bit.

Eds

I may be mistaken, but I thought the reason Iraola was leaving Bournemouth was that his family wanted to go back to Spain?

Is it realistic that they will be "more settled" in Merseyside- or do you think Antonio stays in England and his family go back to Spain?

If it is true that the family wanted to go back (I assume- perhaps wrongly- for the now filled Bilbao position) what has brought about the change to stay and be in talks to lead us?

Is there a risk that a similar situation develops which we saw with Slot?

The only way to avoid this is to limit our manager search to Scousers or non-Scousers with no family.

Just get the best man for the job.

Hopefully there's a Spanish school in Liverpool area then. 🤞🏻

Thanks for that info, TheFields, and for everything you post on here. Great source of news.
Whilst I would be happy with Iroala, I really hope they get Hoeness. The more I read about him the more I get excited about potentially getting him.

To me he seems the perfect fit and will be real bonus to youth development. Fingers crossed.

Don’t really know much about Sage but will read up.

Konate leaving is now official. I hope Jaquet can hit the ground running.

Ed's do you think Harvey Elliot will now stay and do you think he can push on? Lads only 23 with his best years still to come, very technical and Klopp used him a lot in his last two seasons.

I really like him and for me he can still have a future with Liverpool, I'd be interested in seeing if a new man can get a consistent tune out of him.

Second coming... Yes, Harvey! He's a talented lad. I hope he stays.

The only problem is he isn't good enough.

Not good enough, unfortunately, but top lad!

I had the feeling that Harvey was a great super sub, but struggled to make an impact on the rare occasions he started in midfield.

But, having seen Wirtz struggle to impose himself as the 10 in a midfield 3, I am beginning to think that our 4-3-3 set-up (both under Klopp and Slot), and also the Premiership, makes it tough for genuine Number 10s.

Foden now struggles at City. The new generation of 10s seem to be more like the Stevie G mould - Rogers and Bellingham spring to mind.

Silva and Bruno the most obvious exceptions.

Maybe a new coach will get the best out of Harvey and Wirtz. I have a feeling that these types of players do better when there is a back 3 with wingbacks.

Does anyone know if the Anfield Agenda guy has carried out his threat and quit - now that Slot has gone?

3

31 May 2026 16:14:18
He threatened to quit if Slot stayed, Ron, instead of backing his sources; when the top tier journalists told us all Slot was staying, he offered his resignation.

He was on twice yesterday, once the news broke that Slot had gone.
He can now carry on reading out every transfer link going.

Normal service has been resumed.

31 May 2026 16:35:28
Whilst he's making a few quid, never going to quit.

31 May 2026 16:47:18
He came out about 2 weeks ago and said Slot was definitely leaving, then the usual journalists came on and said Slot was definitely staying, then Craig retracted his statement because he was repeatedly being told he was 100% wrong and Slot was staying, so he offered his resignation because he thought he had got it wrong, but then ended up getting it right.

It was all very dramatic haha.

I have nothing against the fella like. I would hate to get the amount of abuse that he gets, some of it is terrible, and it's from LFC fans too. All he is doing is reading out stuff from the internet. If people don't like it then don't watch it.

31 May 2026 16:48:07
That's not aimed at you two, by the way, it's aimed at the people that have been trolling Craig.

Cannot wait for the exciting high pressure front football to come back. Now delighted with the new manager change.

I can't wait to start looking forward to watching football again. It's been a hard slog all of this season.
I do have 2 concerns with Iraola, though.
1) The number of injuries we are going to have. Bournemouth have been top of the injury charts for the last 2 years, so we'll need some very good depth (which we currently don't have).

2) Bournemouth lost quite a few games in a row when Iraola first joined, and had bouts of losses in a row since he has been there. It'll take some time for our players to get used to his style.

Iraola joined mid season, did he? So at least our first few games would be friendlies. Your 1st point, Brommers, I agree with. We don't have the squad at the moment to be high intense every 3 days, which brings me to my 2nd point. Iraola has never managed a European campaign before.

That is gonna be a huge learning curve for him. He will have to tinker with his methods. But he was gonna have to learn sometime, and I would be confident he can handle it. But we are gonna have to give him the squad to do it.

Travelling back from Cornwall last night so catching up on the posts and although I’m not disappointed if it’s to be Iraola I just feel we missed the boat with Xabi?

2-3 weeks ago he was the man being widely touted & out of the managers mentioned, should Slot go for me was the stand out man. Played for the club, got the vibe & the culture of the club & knew the city & what it means. He also imo would have been the man to get the best out of Wirtz & by all accounts he made it known he wanted the role so privately he must be seething?

If it’s Iraola now then I wish him the very best.

I’m not one to think could it be too big a step and his undoubted work ethic is exactly what this squad needs. People forget Arteta was totally untried at any level before he took on the Arsenal job but he was tough enough to weed out the slackers & to his credit has built a pretty formidable squad.

Knowing how important the bond between style, energy and how the Reds fans respond to exciting, front footed football, Iraola's game suits that check list more than Xabi's.
