Ed025, surely Everton would not sell a player (Ndiaye) to LFC? Cheers mate

Romano just posted that Maresca pushing for Gakpo. Player has agreed terms but only moves if we bring in a replacement. Deal is set for £85m.
29 Aug 2026 23:45:34
Sunderland in for Fofana.
30 Aug 2026 02:19:03
I don't think we can sign all of the left wingers.
30 Aug 2026 02:20:21
You are on the wrong page - this is the Liverpool site.
29 Aug 2026 22:49:11
My goodness, our club seems to be in turmoil behind the scenes. Pure utter chaos. Has AI any say on transfers either incoming or outgoing? I wonder. Is Barcola an AI decision? I hesitate to ask even. He's not the player we need right now and won't solve our glaring obvious issues in cm and fb positions. Barcola is very very erratic at best. He could even deepen the crisis mode we are in right now. We need a cm holder. Endo, Grav, Macca not up to it or trusted to do it...
Scott or Wharton are obvious solutions. We need two new full backs. Kostos, Kerkez, Frimpong and Bradley nowhere near good enough. Solve our fb crisis, and possibly probably solve our team problems too. Honestly don't know what new fbs are gettable now we're at end of window and teams are settled with new players and squads but we must sign replacements in these areas if we have any chance to compete this season. Already it looks over. Interesting two days ahead.
29 Aug 2026 23:27:21
Guard, take the lads belt and shoes laces off him. 🥺
29 Aug 2026 23:54:20
Scott and Wharton solve nothing. No physicality, neither particularly good defensively (Wharton in particular is horrendous).
29 Aug 2026 23:58:21
Barcola is exactly what we need. Pace running in behind and qualify on the ball. You are right about the full backs. Do what we can to get Trent back. He will make everyone else around him look better. Since he and Robbo left, the crossing from wide forward areas is abysmal. The people who criticised Trent, and probably influenced his decision to leave, must now accept they didn't realise how good he was. Even his much criticised defensive work doesn't look so bad now, after the s*** show at the back we have suffered for over 12 months since he left.
30 Aug 2026 00:04:41
We definitely need a LW upgrade on Gakpo but it shouldn't be at the expense of the other 5 or 6 positions.
30 Aug 2026 00:08:06
We've played 2 out of 38 games and it's "all over"? "Turmoil", "Pure utter chaos". Really? Putting aside the fact that the transfer window is still open and that we have brought in 4 players who are all capable of being in our starting 11, I'm not sure what the evidence is for your (and others) slightly hysterical reaction.
We all know that the squad can be improved but you can't say that for any team an6 sau of the year.
We are looking for somebody on the right and, seemingly a midfielder. If we bring someone in, then we can expect them to improve the squad. If we don't find players of the quality we want, then we are all going to have to keep going with the Valium until January.
30 Aug 2026 00:08:45
We do need them things but Barcola is a good signing. We are the slowest team in the league. He will go some way to changing that.
30 Aug 2026 00:12:19
Bradley is, when fit, that's his issue only. Always looked good when he plays. I think Kerkez will become better, especially because this is the manager who got the best out of him. 2 games in and people losing their minds. He needs a little patience after the abysmal performance last season, come on.
{Ed666's Note - Did Bradley really always look good mate?
30 Aug 2026 00:28:32
Utter meltdown moment from poor old Kev.
I've seen enough to show we'll get better and better. A load of positives after the first two games.
Are we gonna win the league? No.
Will we be a lot better in 5 games time? 100%.
Wirtz, Isak, Munoz, Barcola will all be superb soon.
Jacquet looks mustard.
Mac Allister looks better already. Him as a deep lying playmaker will help us tick.
When Bradley comes back, we'll be a lot more solid.
Kerkez is still getting up to speed. Seems to take a while to realise a season has started.
Wirtz will become the player we know he is.
Trust the process, please. It takes patience, but by the second half of the season, we'll see the benefits in the CL and any domestic cups we are still in.
30 Aug 2026 00:54:02
What process is that, Skezza? Decimating the squad, not addressing any of the deficiencies during the window? Suddenly deciding to make moves in a desperate panic at the end of the window with no apparent plan? Trust that process? This is incompetence at best and negligence at worst.
As for the squad, still weak and soft in midfield, weak at fullback, now seemingly wanting to sell a starting forward to replace them with a soon to be washed up mid table player who was on his way to Turkey to see his career out.
We've been lucky twice so far, but luck doesn't last and we will be getting turned over as soon as we play anyone with any real quality and every team knows how to play against us.
They all know how weak, soft & porous midfield.
At this moment in time we don't look good enough to finish in mid table, let alone a cup run, and forget about the Champions League, no way this shower of s**** is winning that. No quality in the middle of the park and weak in defence.
Another season written off, this one can be firmly pinned on FSG for allowing this to turn into a clown slow.
30 Aug 2026 00:28:34
Kemlyn Toad " The people who criticised Trent, and probably influenced his decision to leave, must now accept they didn't realise how good he was". The stupidest thing I've ever read. He was taking Spanish lessons two years prior to his exit. Utter turd you're spouting.
30 Aug 2026 02:29:39
Putting aside injuries, our squad is:
GK: Ali, Marma, Woodman
RB: Bradley, Frimpong
LB: Kerkez, Tsimi
CB: VVD, Leoni, Jacquet, Araujo (with Ndukwe to come)
Cover: Gomez, Chambers
Mids: Grav, Szoboszlai, Macca, Nyoni, Endo, Wirtz
Att: Isak, Eki, Munoz, Rio, Gakpo, Barcola
with potentially a couple more players to come in.
It isn't a bad squad, and we now have a coach worth the name.
Get a grip.
30 Aug 2026 05:56:23
Scott and Wharton would help the situation, because it's that bad. Wharton is solid defensively. He looks to intercept and press to win back possession. In an organised press he'd do well.
Scott scores highly in possession won and tackles committed, covering plenty of distance for recovery runs. Highly mobile and most of all Willing to track back.
Neither are the defensive monster most of us want. However, they're both an improvement on what we'd currently see at Liverpool, and both would probably suit the pivot more than our current options.
Wharton offers that vision and passing from deep we miss, while Scott's incredibly mobile and covers more ground.
Both good options and both home grown.
30 Aug 2026 06:40:28
We don't need Scott. We have enough box to box players who always want to be ahead of the ball and aren't passers.
Wharton is somebody we could really use, because he is probably the best progressive passer in the league and he doesn't want to run ahead of the ball to receive after passing it. He will pass and sit. We need players who can sit and offer us some kind of security.
Even if Wharton is the opposite of athletic or mobile, he is at least a player who won't roam deep into the opposition half. He also can spray the ball to Munoz, Barcola, Wirtz and Isak early. It's the best possible signing we could make at this stage, besides a right winger, but Palace won't want to sell so it's not worth talking about.
30 Aug 2026 07:05:53
Corr Vik, wouldn't want to see you on a bad day, mate.
Try and take your eyes off FSG for five minutes and think about the manager, maybe... just maybe he is capable of actually coaching a midfield of proven Premier League winners to play some decent football again?
Throw in a 120m player to that midfield who Klopp rates as one of the best in the world.
Iraola has constantly said he just wants the window over so he knows which players he can mould into winners again, and finally get them fit enough to run for 90 minutes after Slot had coached that out of them.
Washed up? The same guy that terrorised us every time he played against us? A right winger we actually need right now in his prime?
I'd honestly rather have him than an unproven 18/19 y/old who hasn't played in the Premier League before, yet another player we need to give a season to before they may or may not get used to the league and the culture.
PSG looked poor and barely qualified for the CL 2 years ago and look how strongly they finished.
Window isn't over yet...
But sure, get in a tizzy and have a little meltdown because we're not signing the latest shiny new toy every 5 minutes.
29 Aug 2026 22:37:32
Hi all,
Liverpool have revisited the Sarr deal this afternoon. The anticipation is that another bid in the region of 70 million euro could be placed.
Ilman Ndiaye is also of interest. Very fluid situation at the moment.
29 Aug 2026 23:02:52
This club keeps disappointing me.
29 Aug 2026 23:03:51
Hi VG, please tell me there is some news on a CDM? Is it true we are not going for one?
29 Aug 2026 23:03:59
I am so done with this season, and we are two games in...
JFC
29 Aug 2026 23:06:02
I actually quite like Sarr, but the money really not making sense with our usual model given his age.
Seems a bit of a reaction, would rather keep Gakpo even though I'd imagine the wages are a big factor in the decision.
The fact Sarr struggled at a bigger club worries me, however, I still think he'd be effective but at 70mil I think we've got a bit nuts.
29 Aug 2026 23:06:31
Cheers VG.
Sarr for circa 60m might be the worst business we've done in recent times.
29 Aug 2026 23:07:17
It makes a change as we've been anything but fluid until now.
29 Aug 2026 23:08:59
From bad to worse for us right now.
29 Aug 2026 23:10:31
70 million to downgrade on an older player than Gakpo, is such a Richard Hughes signing. Appalling from all involved if it happens.
29 Aug 2026 23:11:34
Anything on Gavi VG?
29 Aug 2026 23:12:40
Thanks, VG. Just glad only 72 hours more of this farce have to be endured!
29 Aug 2026 23:14:07
Cheers, Victor.
Iliman Ndiaye is a significantly better player than Sarr. He's younger, and he improves our side instantly. I cannot understand why the club is so fixated on Sarr.
To me, and it's just my opinion, us splashing around 70 million on an average 28/29 year old makes zero sense.
{Ed666's Note - I would love Ndiaye but would Everton sell to us? At least he wouldn’t have to move house.
29 Aug 2026 23:15:53
Neither of these are better than Gakpo. Even a rw Gakpo. He may have been a little off it last year but played almost every game when the whole team was poor.
{Ed666's Note - Ndiaye not better than Gakpo? Statistically probably not but I know which one I’d rather have mate.
29 Aug 2026 23:17:37
Thanks, Victor. Hard to keep up at this stage.
29 Aug 2026 23:21:05
Cheers Vic.
29 Aug 2026 23:21:09
Who do you think we'll end up with? A suprise name? Would Everton even sell to us?
They've left it that late. Other teams would need a replacement too. Sarr, at his age, is not worth the money, neither is Minteh worth 80m.
The clubs will know we have money, and likely make us spend closer to 70/80. Massively overpriced players.
Especially with injuries involved, seems like a silly movie.
Has my issues with Gakpo last year, but it wasn't just him, loads were poor. He's come back, started well under new manager. Seems a silly move to strengthen City.
Do you think we'll get a midfielder too? It's getting late now, if eek well just panic but and waste money in a terrible winger.
29 Aug 2026 23:22:41
Let's replace good players with past their peak mediocre players.
Sounds like a plan.
29 Aug 2026 23:23:20
Thanks, VG.
Seems crazy money for FSG to sign off given he's about to turn 29.
It's a real scattergun approach from Hughes, injured players, older players & then he will be off to Saudi with no accountability!
What a clown show!
29 Aug 2026 23:43:26
Sarr. What a joke.
29 Aug 2026 23:55:16
Bottom of the barrel, meet the scraper.
29 Aug 2026 23:56:43
I think Sarr is a smokescreen. Or at least hope so.
29 Aug 2026 23:59:45
Not necessarily a CDM, a midfielder who controls the game, and gets stuck in, even doing the simple things. Henderson would still do a boss job in that midfield, and that's my point, as you can have the runners around you, yet still dictate the game. It's easier said than done, yet simple at the same time.
30 Aug 2026 00:01:56
Alonso 1786,
Ndiye is a good player, but he hasn't got pace. That is all important in today's game. It is also the way Iraola wants to play.
30 Aug 2026 00:17:48
What a joke of a club. Richard Hughes has ripped up and destroyed a title winning team in the span of 2 years. None of our transfers look to be following a collective plan - rather, they are random signings all over the place.
Sarr to replace Gakpo and Salah on the right is woeful. He's not a winger, his creativity bag is nonexistent, he can't cross the ball and he's 28.
{Ed666's Note - YNWA 🤣
30 Aug 2026 00:27:35
I have no idea who we will end up with. It appears, through Chinese whispers, that LFC are doing a fine job at throwing journos off the scent.
Gavi will not happen. Liverpool like Gavi, but so do most top European clubs, and Barcelona would only entertain a sale this late in the window if the numbers were astronomical.
Regarding a CDM, Camara was offered to us and we have been in talks with his agent/Monaco, but I think he could be Chelsea bound. The last 72 hours of the market is gonna be very, very exciting. And scary.
30 Aug 2026 01:10:34
If we don't bring in a DM this window, it will be a complete dereliction of duty!!
We need the link up, the cover for Van Dijk, the aggressive break up, the common sense!!!
30 Aug 2026 01:23:18
A Sarr to be 29 in 6 months at 70m bucks makes me wanna spew. Must be alternatives, please.
30 Aug 2026 06:42:59
For what we need right now, Sarr is a better fit than Ndiaye. We need a right winger who can run in behind, is physical and quick, and can press, not necessarily a dribbly right winger who wants the ball to feet like Ndiaye. That right winger should also ideally be able to play center forward, which Sarr is very much capable of.
I'm not at all convinced by Sarr as a footballer, in terms of technical skillset, he is pretty much the opposite of Ndiaye, and I would say he is inferior as a footballer, but in terms of profile, he looks to be able to fill a hole in the squad that we need right now.
30 Aug 2026 06:54:56
Wharton is more
tackle shy than our existing mids.
29 Aug 2026 21:55:18
Lucien Agoume (Sevilla) has been suggested internally as a cheaper option for numbers in the middle, especially as a '6' as we're likely to spend the majority of the remainder of our budget on one more winger after Barcola.
Merci.
29 Aug 2026 22:44:44
Can we please stop the asinine sign offs!
29 Aug 2026 22:53:51
Linked heavily with Utd last season as well as Arsenal and Brighton. Fee last season was rumoured to be £35m.
29 Aug 2026 22:54:21
Interesting new name. Looks decent from a quick search, which is by no means conclusive.
But interesting.
29 Aug 2026 23:07:33
Lucien Agoume would be a good addition to the squad but he's probably not a starting level signing.
29 Aug 2026 21:30:43
Evening Folks,
Some good news, expect Barcola deal to be concluded soon. He will be a Liverpool player. Little bit pricey if you ask me, but it's a serious option for Liverpool to have.
Gakpo will almost certainly leave this window.
Wirtz looks like he is staying now, interest from Barca has cooled.
Scott from Bournemouth is a genuine option now, expect this to gather pace in the coming days.
Toodles.
29 Aug 2026 21:48:18
In other news, rain is wet, kettles boil and paint dries.
29 Aug 2026 21:48:30
We all knew Barcola was done and his price mate. Wirtz was never leaving. Gakpo only leaves if we sign Sarr or Minteh. Bournemouth have told every interested club that Scott is not for sale.
29 Aug 2026 21:48:33
Toodles.
29 Aug 2026 21:48:38
Liar liar pants on fire is back. lol.
29 Aug 2026 21:55:49
We were never gonna sell Wirtz anyway, so Barca were up crap's creek to begin with.
29 Aug 2026 22:06:15
Man City approached about Gakpo apparently.
Doesn't feel like a great move unless we can sort some of the other obvious gaps in the squad sorted before the end of the window.
29 Aug 2026 22:08:29
Worst update ever lol.
29 Aug 2026 22:08:48
Obvious, incredibly likely, obvious, Scott is interesting.
29 Aug 2026 22:10:13
Actually Scott said he is committed 110 percent.
Mane said that the day before, to fans' faces. Also, remember Smith for Leeds. Never ever ever. Boom, hello Manure Nited.
🤣 Xavier came from the big Ev and so on, Wouldn't say he will be a red, but when Liverpool knock also the money on top, how could he say no? Looks a good player to have in a team.
29 Aug 2026 22:30:20
I won't believe any of it until the Truther confirms it.
29 Aug 2026 22:33:56
Scott doesn't fix that midfield. Just another lightweight box to box player.
29 Aug 2026 22:51:00
Thanks for the Barcola exclusive.
29 Aug 2026 22:54:56
If me aunt had balls she'd be me uncle.
29 Aug 2026 23:04:27
Replacing Gakpo with Sarr is utter negligence. Sarr's underlying numbers are dreadful, he's not a touchline winger (more of a central player), + he's 28 and will cost £70mil+ which is absurd. Would much rather keep Gakpo.
29 Aug 2026 23:09:17
I've been lurking around this website for a few months and finally decided to join. The reason for that is I wanted to ask. have Liverpool fans (me included) drastically lowered our standards? 👀
PSG proved that having a team of 'stars' doesn't equal success. They had to sell all theirs, create new ones and then they won back-to-back UCLs. So I get that. But the signing of Barcola, over-priced or not, does suggest that the club has fairly high expectations for consistent future success. It's not like we're shopping in PoundLand. We've spend over £350m on Wirtz, Isak and Barcola which at least shows ambition.
If we're all honest, no one expected Salah to roll up in 2017, break the longstanding 38-game goal scoring record and then help us to 3 UCL finals, 2 Premier League winners trophies, 1 UCL, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, 1 Super Cup (sorry) and 1 Club World Cup (also sorry). He flopped at Chelsea and did well at Roma, but no one saw THAT coming. At that point, he was our record signing at £35ish million in 2017. Since then we have spent a lot of money (thanks for making us great again, Jurgen!). Kerkez was incredible for Bmouth. Isak was amazing for Newcastle. Wirtz was player of the season twice in Germany. They went after the best and got them, despite it unbalancing our team. If Richard Hughes had bought us 7 or 7 £30m players last summer we would have been moaning like hell. 😂
We all have eyes. Cody Gakpo is not a top footballer. If he took a penalty he would cut inside first and THEN shoot. 👀 Diaz was infinitely better. I don't care how old he was getting, he was the passion in this team and we missed it badly last season. It's going to take a while to undo what Slot did last year. Iraola's football is so vastly different to Slot's that it might take a few months to change it. Old habits die hard and all that jazz. Passing the ball in a semi-circle around the opponent's box, slow in the build up, can't defend throw-ins, terrified to take on a risky pass in case they get caught on the counter (which happens anyway).
I'm waffling. Sorry. My main point is that Cody Gakpo has no higher ceiling to reach. This is it for him. I don't hate him and he'll leave with all our best wishes. He just is what he is. Barcola, on the other hand, has a massive ceiling. And Sarr might have a similar ceiling to Gakpo. Fair enough. But his wages will be less and we'll make profit selling Cody then buying Sarr or Minteh. When a player wants to leave there is nothing anyone can do about it. If City want him and he goes there then he must have been giving guarantees regarding regular playing time. We can't afford to let Barcola play most games and then have an unhappy Gakpo filling in. He's on £250k a week. That's no 'backup' or squad player and he won't be happy.
Sarr or Minteh not being world-beaters at their own clubs doesn't mean they won't light it up for Liverpool. We're a different club that is more attacking and either of them could do well. The reason I started out by asking if we've drastically lowered our standards is because now we want to keep Cody, who is a slightly above average footballer, just because we're scared that someone else might be worse?! If we don't take that risk, we know what Gakpo will give us and it's not enough now we don't have Salah. We can only go after players like Sarr and Minteh because 'stars' won't want to keep the bench warm behind Barcola.
The heart was ripped out of this team last year. We need surgery and we need to take risks in order to potentially move forward and challenge again. If you just do the same thing then you get the same results and all that jazz. Gakpo will always do what he does and that's not enough considering the holes in our team. Might Sarr or Minteh be worse? Maybe. But given what they have done in teams with far less talent. they might just surprise us like Salah did.
I mean, Ekitike has done well, but apart from him, out of all the signings from this summer and last. Munoz is probably the best and he was the cheapest. To me, it's like a jigsaw puzzle. Sarr or Minteh or whoever else might be a decent jigsaw piece in their current teams. But for us. they may well be the missing piece that makes us bag tons of goals again. Cash in on Gakpo now while the market is desperate, or leave him on the bench for a year behind Barcola and then sell him next summer anyway. I know he's cover for Isak but he's not a good striker. If we want a 9 out of 10 attacking option, we shouldn't keep a 7 just in case we buy a 5.
As for Barcola. Fabrizio must have been trying to please both PSG and Liverpool because he said that we were "paying an initial £100m fee, rising to a possible €140m." Two different currencies. Surprised Man United fans haven't said he cost 55 billion drachma. 😂
29 Aug 2026 23:23:55
Not in this day and age AnfieldAddict, she can have balls and still identify as your aunt.
30 Aug 2026 00:06:49
Scott would be great, but we'd need a good dm beside him.
30 Aug 2026 00:12:47
Think Gakpo goes the minute Barcola arrives. Irrespective of whether we get another winger onboard.
30 Aug 2026 03:27:13
Totally with you Mattylman.
29 Aug 2026 20:47:25
Gakpo is close to leaving. Liverpool have no right winger lined up but have spoken to Brighton about Minteh again - don't want to go higher than £72m. Ilias Akhomach (Villarreal) and Baris Yilmaz (Galatasaray) are new names being mentioned. Clubs have been contacted only today.
Utter shambles in my opinion.
29 Aug 2026 21:32:58
I read Brighton would do a deal at between £70-£80m. Just get the deal done.
29 Aug 2026 21:47:55
Diomande fell through and we didn't bother pursuing another RW until the final week of the window.
We need a DM, and it seems Camara is available, but we're waiting for the final hours to get a good bargain as if our club is broke.
Our fullbacks are a complete mess, but we are just pretending like it's not an issue.
We have one fit ST. One! So, if Isak, a known injury-prone player, gets injured, what do we do?
AI is destined to fail with the current state of the club.
29 Aug 2026 21:49:54
Looks more like Sarr than anyone. The club is in disarray.
29 Aug 2026 22:16:25
Sarr is a last resort where the club knows they are overpaying. It's a desperation move, and Palace are trying to take full advantage - they're trying to line up Malick Fofana for if we follow through on Sarr.
{Ed666's Note - Fofana has been injured most of last season and maybe not as potent as he was..let’s see..he also plays on the left so no good for us mate if you were alluding to for us to buy him?
29 Aug 2026 22:11:47
You are the king of obscure names clowner.
Not a fan of Yilmaz for us.
I must go look up alkomach
29 Aug 2026 22:33:13
That Akomach was always a problem for my defence on FM26. 😂
29 Aug 2026 22:35:10
Ilias Akhomach and Baris Yilmaz? Ffs, that's scraping the barrel. Dross.
29 Aug 2026 22:40:50
Sarr was not in the Palace team. Maybe another indication.
29 Aug 2026 22:50:26
Gakpo is nowhere near good enough, poor on the rw today, exemplified by over-hit crosses, almost like he did it on purpose. Bone idle, doesn't use his physique or height advantage, let him go.
30 Aug 2026 00:00:37
City apparently.
30 Aug 2026 00:11:00
I think 80m now is close to the equivalent of what 35m was when we got Mane. Mane at Southampton is 100m these days. Minteh definitely not Southampton Mane level, but still has the potential to be a great player. Could also be another bust, but id take that risk any day over Sarr and the sure thing guarantee of bang average at best.
30 Aug 2026 06:25:15
Dom
Can more than solve the right back issue and become our new Trent who can actually defend. The question is,
Can his ego handle being way out east.
{Ed666's Note - or we could just sign a proper right back.
29 Aug 2026 20:33:18
Gakpo going to City. Hope we've got someone lined up! Still think Minteh.
{Ed666's Note - feels a lot like Sarr to me mate
29 Aug 2026 20:45:01
This seems super weird to me.
29 Aug 2026 20:50:06
Think Minteh will be January.
29 Aug 2026 20:50:44
Should just say no, we need all the help we can get to compensate for a poor defence.
But then again this is Liverpool, and for a long time haven't really done very well with transfers, and essentially made us far weaker and a long long transition spell to continue.
29 Aug 2026 20:54:15
Scored last week, assisted this week, yet getting sold. 🤷🏻♂️
29 Aug 2026 21:01:12
They can have Gakpo... in exchange for Semenyo.
29 Aug 2026 21:04:46
Complete madness to sell a player who's been playing well to a direct rival.
I also don't understand what's in it for Gakpo. He's well paid at Liverpool, and at City he'd be deputising to Doku, Haaland, Cherki.
If City think he's good enough to deputise for any of those players, then he should be good enough to deputise for our front row, who are (sorry to say it) less strong in every position.
I can't see how this makes sense for the player or LFC.
Two summers of terrible transfer decision making by people who apparently don't understand that football is a team game.
29 Aug 2026 21:07:33
Very strange transfer. Is the money needed to fund the Barcola deal? If so, and we're not signing anyone else, we look light on depth if Gakpo goes (and until Ekitike is back, he's the only obvious cover for Isak). Or, if we're going to bring someone else in, it's quite a leap to assume Sarr or Minteh will offer more than Gakpo.
Based on last season, a big transfer fee is arguably worth accepting, but to City? Strange that they want him, strange that we would sell a current first team starter to them.
Ironically, he looks a bit better on the right flank than he did on the left; decent performance today, created a goal and a couple of chances.
Meanwhile, whilst the pack gets shuffled up front, we still look woeful in the full back positions and soft in midfield. Opponents are going to hurt us down the flanks and through midfield all season. I'd rather have a League 1 central midfielder with an engine and a tackle in him than the version of Mac Allister that we continue to see.
29 Aug 2026 21:08:12
Should tell City only swap for Semenyo only.
29 Aug 2026 21:08:19
I don't want Gakpo to go. However, if we hoot Sarr I think he could be a good signing, gives Munoz and Sarr for the rw and Isak and Sarr for cf. Though if we got Sarr and Gakpo leaves I still feel we would be a forward sort.
Rio cannot be relied upon, and nor can Koumas, so we will be relying heavily on the 4 to cover those forward positions.
29 Aug 2026 21:09:10
I feel like this is the 50th bad decision in a row the club had made over the last 2 years.
29 Aug 2026 21:10:34
Minteh will be out for weeks at least. He probably will need time to get match fitness.
Compared to Gakpo, who has been one of our better players since the start of the season.
Just deranged planning if this happens.
29 Aug 2026 21:13:59
The club 'having someone lined up' sounds good until you ask yourself the following questions:
1) Would this someone be an upgrade or a downgrade on Gakpo?
2) Can Liverpool find a winger who is better than Gakpo before September 1st?
{Ed666's Note - yes and yes
29 Aug 2026 21:19:09
I get why a lot of fans want to keep Gakpo currently. But most would’ve been happy to see him leave earlier in summer or if we brought in new players. Most LFC fans don’t think he’s good enough for a starting 11 spot. When Barcola is in and Ekitike is back, where does Gakpo play? £85 mill would normally be great money for him.
Unfortunately so far the transfer window hasn’t been great for us. Not only have we needed quality, we’ve also needed to add quantity to compete on all fronts.
29 Aug 2026 21:19:16
This is crazy. AI openly saying we have a thin squad and the DoF is doing a 1 in 1 out transfer. I get that Cody isn't a winger, but when we won the league he scored 17 goals, and as things stand we don't have a second striker. AI must be going nuts.
{Ed666's Note - Maybe we have deals lined up? I know the past few weeks in the transfer market don’t exactly inspire confidence but I’m sure there’s players lined up for positions we’re in need of. And if there isn’t we then we moan and complain.
29 Aug 2026 21:19:38
Strange decision to let Gakpo go to a direct rival so late in the window, appreciate Barcola is seen as a younger upgrade for LW, but surely we need strength in depth. Perhaps could be argued that we need more balance, and Sarr would give that, as he covers RW and CF, but a little underwhelming, really.
All comes down to fee for Sarr and if he is seen as our main RW option or a stop gap signing ??
29 Aug 2026 21:24:20
All the comings and goings, little revenue and massive spending, and we've the most mediocre team we've had in 10 years.
29 Aug 2026 21:32:03
I'll repeat what I said the other day. In the current market, Gakpo is worth £90m+. This is based on what inferior players have been sold for. Selling him to City, a title rival, is absolutely bonkers unless we can rinse them for huge sums. He's probably been our best player the last 2 games FFS.
29 Aug 2026 21:32:39
This almost seems like intentional sabotage.
{Ed666's Note - that’s how conspiracies start 🤣
29 Aug 2026 21:33:04
Funny how so many of our fans were screaming abuse at Gakpo last season, but are now on their knees begging him to stay. Really makes you think, huh.
{Ed666's Note - I get on my knees for no man. That’s Ed’s 001
29 Aug 2026 21:35:04
Unfortunately the club is currently a shambles. It's going to be a long hard season.
29 Aug 2026 21:44:33
Gakpo is pants. £85mil is a steal. No brainer. Just bring in some quality before Tuesday.
29 Aug 2026 21:52:08
Firstly, the club won't let Gakpo go unless they had a replacement.
Secondly, most of you all hated Gakpo last season, and now cos he scored one goal, he is world class.
Thirdly, he is on huge wages and would command a decent fee. We could get a better player in on half that wage and then add some bodies to other areas of the squad.
29 Aug 2026 21:58:56
Savinho's output to resale value must surely be a reference in the pricing negotiations for Gakpo, if this deal is to happen.
Anything less than 20 - 30% more should be rebuffed, surely?
29 Aug 2026 22:05:22
90% of this site have ragged Gakpo for a year and want him gone, now he's going, it's the club's moronic. 😂😂😂 can't win.
29 Aug 2026 22:12:15
Have a feeling we have a few lined up if willing to let Gakpo go, but all feels a bit close to the wire.
Hope we don't end up with panic buys.
The business we have done has been under the radar so far, hopefully there are some good surprises on their way before the window closes.
29 Aug 2026 22:15:10
He was awful last season, as was 99% of the squad. But he was used as a scapegoat by many. But there's no way we should be selling without a defined upgrade. Barcola, in addition to Gakpo, should be bare minimum.
29 Aug 2026 22:17:42
Gakpo wants to move. Who can blame him, with the abuse he received last season.
Excellent player, but one who could be anonymous all game before getting a key assist or goal. He is a perfect winger for City, who likes their wingers to come inside.
I think he had reached his ceiling with us, but we need a seriously good winger to replace him. Munoz and Barcola are a great pair of wingers, but Rio is not first team ready, and we also need cover for Isak.
{Ed666's Note - I’m not sure he’s ‘excellent’
29 Aug 2026 22:28:25
Also, people complain when we let players go for free, but now also complain when we sell people for twice the price we bought them for? This is the best time to sign a slow and one-dimensional player.
29 Aug 2026 22:37:41
It's moronic selling Gakpo with a few days left of the window, and only dregs available to sign. Self sabotage.
29 Aug 2026 22:46:14
Ironically, I liked Gakpo a lot more playing on the right today than I do when he plays on the left. If we've only got so much money to spend, I think there's maybe an argument to be made for making do for the time being with Gakpo and Munoz on the right wing, and just splashing that cash onna boss midfielder instead.
29 Aug 2026 22:57:33
Gakpo wants to leave because he understands he will be used as a 2nd choice since Barcolas' arrival.
Club needs to get the hard cash because there won't be another chance to get 80m for him.
We will be getting Sarr because we need a restless right winger who tracks back to help the defense. Gakpo doesn't have that. We will also be getting him because he is experienced, paving the way for smooth integration for Ngumoha and Munoz without creating immediate problems for positions.
Buying another youngster for right wing, then where do Munoz and Ngumoha fit in? This is why Sarr is the perfect placeholder. Not Minteh, not Mbaye.
The only missing link (apart from RB, since I don't see Frimpong getting any better) is a proper midfielder. From then on it's about how fast Iraola gels the team.
{Ed666's Note - Great post and you make salient points mate .
29 Aug 2026 23:09:18
@RedQ: Savinho is 22 years old and didn't play regularly. Gakpo is 27, reached his peak in his last 3 peak years (being an ok/good player here and there). So, no, the output isn't the only factor for prices. 80m is about right.
29 Aug 2026 23:09:42
Bar Cola will be the starting left wing. Munoz covers across the line.
Gakpo is a back-up left wing, and is 4th in the pecking order as a starting CF behind Isak, Eli (when fit), and Munoz. He is a one trick pony - step inside and shoot, and if City want to pay £70m plus (which should be our starting point for cost), then take it.
If he actually wants to leave, then get shut of him. There are better options out there - if not this week then in January.
29 Aug 2026 23:15:20
Hyperbolic maybe, but if we do sell Gakpo and don't bring in an obvious improvement which in my opinion means someone we haven't yet been linked with, I'm about to write this season off. I'm just so frustrated with how badly this club is being run currently: not replacing crucial players who leave and not addressing glaring holes, it's just too frustrating after watching an entire season of persisting with Slot when he clearly was insisting on playing terrible, losing football.
29 Aug 2026 23:31:20
Meibi Iraola let Szobo play RW, even RB, after buying a decent DM/CM. Sarr & Minteh aren't good enough.
30 Aug 2026 06:28:39
Sarr is such an unlikely signing since
Palace
are so difficult to deal with and Sarr is a very limited
player.
