Question for ed001. Firstly hope you and yours are all good. What player/ players do you think we need this summer to improve the first eleven? Personally I think quality centre half and someone who can put the chances we create away although both are a tough challenge to find and expensive
Up the pool.

Coulred

{Ed001's Note - I think we need a left-footed centre-back to give a bit of balance at the back, either to allow us to play a back 3 or to be the long term replacement for Virgil. If we are going to switch to a back 3, that would probably be the priority.

Then it depends on how we are going to play. If it is Amorim's current 3-4-3 I am not sure we need much, as Jota/Darwin provide the centre-forward role, but that would be if Danns is going to develop into the first team as Jota's fitness cannot be relied upon. On the right, it is a much narrower role and more creative, so Salah/Szoboszlai/Elliott has that covered. However, if we are continuing to play with no width from full-backs and need our wide forwards to actually play wide, then we need to replace Salah with 2 actual wingers for there.

So other than a left-sided centre-back I think it really comes down to style of play and buying players to fit it and replace players the new man in charge doesn't fancy.}

1.) 11 Apr 2024 09:22:49
Ed1. What would you do with Fabio Carvalho? I don’t watch the Championship but catching up on Hull highlights I see he has been scoring a lot. But those are just 3 minute highlights. I don’t know how his general play has been.

{Ed001's Note - I haven't watched more than highlights either, I have read comments from those he has played against though, just to see if they raved about him or not. The general consensus seems to be that he is a bit lazy and doesn't get involved enough but when he does he is excellent. I have no idea how true that is though.

Personally I would probably move him on, I just don't see where he fits into this team and we need to make space in the squad and lower the wage bill for the PSR. Then we can use any space to just buy only top class players. If they aren't top class, then we should not bring them in and use the youth academy instead.}

2.) 11 Apr 2024 09:34:28
Ed001, do you think Carvalho might have a chance if Amorim comes in? I know he made some silly comments about Klopp whilst he was away at Leipzig but there is maybe a chance for a fresh start now. I always felt he wasn't quite right for Klopp's version of a 4-3-3 as he wasn't quite suited to being a winger or a wide midfielder, and was a bit physically weak at a young age to play as a 9 or a false 9.

However with Amorim favouring two no.10 style players just off the striker, on paper that could suit him in my opinion. He's having a good end to the season with Hull City for sure. Just not sure how much damage he's done his reputation amongst coaching staff and team mates. Or if what he said was potentially blown out of proportion even.

{Ed001's Note - I am sure that whoever replaces Klopp will want to look at footage of him and if he has done enough, they will give him a chance in pre-season to show what he has. Then it will be up to the lad. Usually a new manager will want to give everyone a clean slate and start afresh.

Personally I am just not convinced he has the fight in him, that was why RBL were not impressed. He didn't work hard enough for their liking.}

3.) 11 Apr 2024 09:52:44
Ed1. Shame really because there is talent in there somewhere. But like you said it’s probably best to move him on, especially if it’s true that he is lazy.

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame, the one thing they really need though is to work hard.}

4.) 11 Apr 2024 10:31:44
And working hard should be the easiest! Especially when you have bundles of talent.
Less talent players that made it are always those that work super hard. They may never be as good be it in footballing brain or technical ability, but you know for sure they always give their best.
Really p. es me off when great talents don’t work hard and it eventually goes to waste, unfortunately this phenomenon will probably never go away. Just within Liverpool we’ve seen Le Tallec, Jack Robinson, and now FB et al, all training and playing with the first team since teenagers but non ever hitting the heights their talents promised, and the common theme is always - they didn’t work hard enough.

5.) 11 Apr 2024 11:14:51
My shopping list would be

Jonathan Tah
Jeremie Frimpong
Gonçalo Inácio
Cole Palmer.

6.) 11 Apr 2024 12:21:10
Thanks for the reply ed001 who would you take as a left sided centre back then mate?
Up the pool.

{Ed001's Note - in an ideal world, Bastoni. But it is more likely to be someone like Hincapie, Inacio or Lukeba. Murillo might be a decent option as well.}

7.) 11 Apr 2024 12:51:40
Bastoni is a sick player. He’s been the best defender in Serie A for about 3 seasons now. He is exactly who we should be going after.

8.) 11 Apr 2024 14:11:13
Murillo looks very good Ed.

{Ed001's Note - I doubt he would be good value though, which is why he was last on the list. I agree though, looks very good. Pacey, good on the ball and good defensively one on one. Not the best in the air though.}

9.) 11 Apr 2024 15:23:19
Edd001 I definitely see amorim playing 3 at the back. I can't see where trent fits in unless he gets a chance in midfield and majorly impresses. Macallister is undroppable if these performances are consistent next season so it's a fight out for a DM role. Bradley would be fantastic for the attacking wingback role.

{Ed001's Note - you and your anti-Trent agenda. It is tedious because Trent has been the best right wing-back around for the last few years, so why on earth would Amorim not want him in a system with even less defensive responsibility? Bradley doesn't have the quality of cross that Trent has.}

10.) 11 Apr 2024 16:36:31
I watched the Barcelona game last night, the young lad at CB looked good and played beyond his years, think he was only 17!

{Ed002's Note - No interest from Liverpool but there is from elsewhere.}

11.) 11 Apr 2024 16:41:57
Genuine question I’ve seen people say that Diaz wouldn’t suit an Amorim front 3. But Diaz plays in a Klopp front 3 already.

What’s the difference in the 2 front 3’s please?

12.) 11 Apr 2024 16:47:59
I’ve said this before Mizer will have a dig at Trent any given opportunity ?‍♂️.

13.) 11 Apr 2024 17:11:35
Exciting times indeed, Ed.

14.) 11 Apr 2024 17:19:59
Cole Palmer will never play for Liverpool.

05 Mar 2024 18:20:34
Question for ed001. Who's your preferred choice for our next manager? Hope your well and fatherhood isn't stopping these match reviews happening
Up the pool.

Coulred

{Ed001's Note - Alonso. He is the one standout possibility.

All well thanks and no its not a problem at all. How are things with you?}

1.) 05 Mar 2024 19:30:42
Who's the back up Ed if alonso doesn't come ?.

2.) 05 Mar 2024 19:30:42
Who's the back up Ed if alonso doesn't come ?.

{Ed001's Note - I guess it would have to be Amorin.}

3.) 06 Mar 2024 02:38:47
Ed001,

Would you be happy if we got Amorin instead of Alonso? Never saw Sporting play under him. What style of football his team plays and does it suit us? Would love to hear your opinion on this.

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I would not be happy because Xabi is the ideal next man. But he is the next best option that I can see. I have only seen his team play in Europe but they are an attractive watch, but often have a bit of fire in their bellies too. That is needed to win trophies. So I wouldn't be unhappy with him as such, just gutted to have missed out on Xabi.}

4.) 06 Mar 2024 10:27:09
It's Alonso or bust for me, as well. Now if we get Amorim or whoever else, I guess I'll have to suck it up. It is what it is.

5.) 06 Mar 2024 16:58:10
I'm in the alonso corner all day long but I'm not too sure about amorim id be more inclined to go for naaglesman or michel of girona but it's not up to me thank god ?.

26 Nov 2023 12:11:55
Morning ed001 and fellow reds. What did you think of Trent's performance yesterday? Personally I thought he did well against a good player and I'm so convinced he can play that number 6 role i would like to see him get a run of games there as it would so help the balance of the side with Gomez at right back and ditch that hybrid role. Only my opinion though
Up the pool.

Coulred

{Ed001's Note - I am with you on both Trent's performance and wanting him to get a run in midfield.}

1.) 26 Nov 2023 12:32:35
Coulred, I thought Trent was very good 1 v 1 vs Doku has tricks and ll that BUT his end product still needs some work and it showed cos Trent was shoing Doku towards his left foot where his end product would never have hurt us bar the Haaland chance that Ali saved.

Trent defended him intelligently, IMO and tho he was partly culpable for the Haaland goal along with Szob but he more than held his own overall, IMO. Now can he play the DM role, we will have to see.

2.) 26 Nov 2023 13:10:24
I think I'd like to see him as 8 to be honest with a new monster signing in the six and perhaps Bradley given a shot at the RB.

I think we need a defensive beast shield in the 6. Nothing would improve us more in my opinion.

Problem with my thoughts though is the squad is overloaded with 8s. And I like a lot of them. Some real good players would miss out.

3.) 26 Nov 2023 13:48:09
It’s quite interesting that 3 (Elliot, Szob and Jones) of our current midfielders are actually converted and were once all wide forwards.

Throw into that Mac is being asked to play as Dm and then we could also see Trent play in there and a centre half in Gomez playing right back.

Pep gets called the tinker man because he over complicates things but we seem to be happy with suggesting our players are chopping and changing positions.

Not a criticism but an observation.

4.) 26 Nov 2023 14:21:35
City fans might be Calling Klopp a tinker man @ JK ??.

5.) 26 Nov 2023 16:57:42
I don’t know where it’s come from but this whole crucifying defenders for being dribbled past is insane.

Over a 90 minute match defenders will get beat, attackers aim all game is to do exactly that. The only way to judge is when it leads to a goal or a great chance.

I’ve seen the video of Dokus dribbles ‘past’ trent half are cut backs, another couple was trent sending him wide and 1 created a dangerous situation when it was drilled across the box.

1 dangerous situation against a player like Doku is good going imo.

6.) 26 Nov 2023 17:02:22
Trent has just had a storming game, scored a goal and got man of the match playing from right back and we have people asking for him to be moved into midfield?

You couldn’t make it up! Lol!

7.) 26 Nov 2023 17:26:40
@beckers pecker
IMO
It’s because he influences games more further up the pitch than further back . Genuinely think as long as he’s on the pitch anything’s on the table for him
Rb
Inverted rb
Dm
No 8
I think he can play them all . But I would like to see him get a run of games in the 6 myself I just think he needs a run there and he would cement it as his position. Again only my opinion but I just think it gets the best out of him as a player .

8.) 26 Nov 2023 18:13:22
It helps when your midfield help out so that the full back isn't isolated. We often leave them exposed to one on one with acres of space to defend. Yesterday showed he can defend as a normal full back. Its not his strong suit, but he deserves credit for doing it well. bar the goal!

9.) 26 Nov 2023 18:19:14
IMO he can be the best attacking right back in the world. Inverting allows him to dictate play whilst still giving him the option to get forward as he did yesterday scoring a very important goal.

As DM he would have to be much more disciplined and it would take so much from his game.

Have you seen him play midfield for England? It just nullifies everything that’s good about Trent.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

10.) 26 Nov 2023 20:52:25
WYred, it's a nonsense, man. Same thing with the "VVD was never dribbled past" mess at the time. This is how desperate the haters have become towards Trent that even when he has a defensively solid game, him being "dribbled past" is now the only thing they have to hang their hats on. Oh and their golden boy Reece James, what happened to him? Oh yes, got cooked and rightfully sent off.

Like the late great Kobe Bryant famously said, "They only hate the great ones. Never the good ones. "

11.) 27 Nov 2023 11:21:08
I'd leave him where he is, not convinced he can be a top midfielder.

12.) 27 Nov 2023 12:08:21
I don’t think it’s hate @Oli, I think, by and large, it’s a lack of understanding and/ or a failure to apply context and / or being swayed by comments on social media that “influence”, for want of a better word, “thought”.

In Trent’s case, he doesn’t really fit into a pigeon hole and there are a considerable number that have trouble with the idea.

He’s a great footballer and we are lucky to have him. When he moves on or retires, the clamour will start for him to be regarded as a legend - a local lad who did it all, and the irony will be lost on most.

13.) 27 Nov 2023 16:07:27
Just put him in midfield now and switch the system to the lb.

Gomez rb (in a 3 with konate and vvd) . Kostas or robbo in trents role. Trent in Midfield as a starter.

Not to much should be lost or changed. Could work.

14.) 28 Nov 2023 06:39:48
Thought Trent played well. Live, other than his goal, he didn’t stand out to me as POTM. But watched the game again and can see he played well and did his job.

Thinking about defending - the one time I remember Doku getting to the byline, I looked back and saw Mo was a bit slow getting back. IMO what we need to be doing is setting up so that Trent can take away the byline and force the winger back towards Mo or the midfielders. Goes back to Klopp talking about how connected we needed to be effective defensively.

Definitely out of form we know he has lost some pace but personally I think he could play the false nine better than Firminho create more chances for others and still able to chip in with goals. What say you ed001

{Ed001's Note - not convinced he could play there and even less convinced he would do it better than Bobby did. I do think he could play a little deeper but not that role, not the way Bobby did it.}

I agree Ed025 the Klopp announcement looks like it’s taking affect now probably just human nature to think this manager now has no impact on the future so what’s the point. Not saying they have downed tools out of spite but subconsciously it must be an issue

Time for Klopp to let the brakes off and full throttle heavy metal football again geothermal full backs rampaging down the flanks for width and bin the hybrid full back role for good
