Hi Ed001. Great review of the derby game mate. I agree regarding the Klopp and Linders situation - this has been coming for so long it's almost painful. I am genuinely sad to see Klopp go, however, I am actually relieved that Linders is going. I just hope that Slot brings the return to our original Klopp-style of fast-paced play and this slow meaningless passing is well and truly ditched with Linders departure. Unfortunately, I just want the season to end now and give Klopp the send off he still deserves after giving us so much pleasure over the last few years. We are fans of the club and I am now looking ahead to the "Slot era" which I just hope brings back exciting play.

Red Stan

{Ed001's Note - thank you mate, fingers crossed for a good send off for him. I am sure the final day at Anfield will have a truly special atmosphere for him.}

1.) 27 Apr 2024 08:33:29
Worse case scenario if Allison were to leave who would be next in to replace the best?

2.) 27 Apr 2024 08:44:47
Spot on review. Agree with all points and feel so sad that Klopp won’t get the fairytale ending.

3.) 27 Apr 2024 09:41:45
Red Stan, have no fear, man. Lijnders will get his chance to manage soon and at that point, all talk he's been doing hiding behind Klopp and surfing on his achievements and hard-earned clout, will be over.

Then, we shall see if his coaching acumen and reflexes work as good as his mouth has been running overtime telling everyone how great he is. Looking forward to it, personally.

4.) 27 Apr 2024 11:12:51
People have blind spots and Ljinders is Klopp’s.

5.) 27 Apr 2024 11:37:57
Ed, I feel your pain writing that.

I remember when we were getting annoyed at tactics in the quad chasing season. We were also going behind in almost every game back then. Here we are years on.

I’d also suggest that the sport science influence has had a role in the decline of Klopp’s impact. The constant talk about the number of games, quick turnarounds, minutes in legs and rhythm building starts to become a self fulfilling prophecy.

6.) 27 Apr 2024 16:18:33
Spot on, HessleRed. I think Klopp sees Lijnders now as his bro. and good friend who so happens to work with/ for him. Having a bromance with your assistant is NEVER a good thin g cos you no longer judge him or keep him based on the professional side of things. Klopp now keeps him around cos he likes working with him thru "friendly" ties rather than professional so if Pep is failing at tactics, Klopp won't see it cos Pep keeps telling him it will all work out which it isn't.

So essentially now, Klopp likes having him around cos he genuinely likes him as a person, IMO and not cos he has anything real to offer. And when that starts to happen, things start to go south. Just ask Bill Belicheick of the New England Patriots with his assistants, 2 in particular. There's a reason why he has been forced into retirement early after last NFL season cos his team were that dire (won about 3 games out of 17). Just my opinion.

7.) 27 Apr 2024 17:52:31
I mean I get that he likes having Ljindars around with him at work, I work from home three days of the week and I love having my dog with me, but quite frankly I’d never let the dog make any work based decisions.

Hi Ed001. Thanks for the review and I must say I agree with your assessment on that match. As soon as Trent came on and went in the middle (inverted) I was worried that would not work. I am amazed we have reverted to the slow way of playing - that didn't really work earlier in the season anyway! It does look like we need a "refresh" which is obviously coming anyway. I think this season really will end with a whimper if we continue to play like this. I would much rather go for it and if that means the odd loss then so be it . this ponderous play is awful and doesn't suit us at all. I actually think if we play "rock and roll" footy then we have a cjance on Thursday (providing the finishing improves) as we definitely have the ability to create chances against them. The last few weeks feels almost like self sabotage!

Red Stan

{Ed001's Note - it is still going to be sad to say goodbye to Klopp.}

1.) 16 Apr 2024 13:27:11
Let's be clear, Herr Klopp knows more about football than any of us. His acumen has brought us success and much joy.

Re. the game. I thought the second half performance was good. Ponderous, really?

Perhaps the tactics would been more effective if returning players were not dusting off the rust and had more rhythm. Szob needs to play. Play himself into form!

Please Trent ease yourself into the game before spraying the Hollywood balls.

2.) 16 Apr 2024 13:48:46
Playing Trent as an inverted fullback when we dominate teams really stifles us. Get him wide and get players in the box for his early delivery.

3.) 16 Apr 2024 16:06:12
Ed01 regardless what the ups and downs and all that, I will be forever grateful to this man who could have gone to any other club in a much better position to win trophies BUT came to us at our absolute worst. He built us up from the ground up and despite all the head winds and initial trophy losses, he stayed the course and taught me how to stay the course as well despite all the obstacles and disappointments.

From there, he built my club from the depths of midtable mediocrity, into the best team in the world and "Champions Of Everywhere". Won a bag of trophies that few expected him to win when he was struggling at first. Klopp gave me some of the absolute best memories as an LFC fan that I will take with me to my grave. Not arsed about what other people who are NOT LFC fans think about him.

Don't care what he did not win cos in the end, Klopp gave my club back its dignity and now, I hold my head high knowing that it was all worth it sticking by him, come hell or high water. All Hail Herr Klopp!

Hi Ed001. Hope all is going ok mate with your living arrangement upheavals? Just wondered what you think on the 10 game "shoot-out" for the Premier League title? The run-ins are all pretty similar really. Personally, I hope City and Arsenal both make it the Champs League semis and then have a grueling battle over 2 games - that can only bode well for us in the run in. Will be interesting to see how many points are needed - maybe 25? Just hope we can stay injury free for the last 2 months and have a 2nd Prem for JK . and the Europa League Cup of course! :-)

Red Stan

{Ed001's Note - do you not think losing now would be better for Arsenal and City? Dent their confidence?}

1.) 21 Mar 2024 16:46:15
It's a good point - but just think the extra games take their toll. Look at us against Man U - the games eventually catch up with you don't they? Just so want that Prem Title and am just looking for anything that gives us an edge!

2.) 21 Mar 2024 18:14:39
Best case scenario we win the treble and city and Arsenal get knocked out of the CL.

Worst case scenario we go out of Europa Arsenal win the league and city win back to back CL.

I’d happily sell my soul for Scenario 1.

3.) 22 Mar 2024 05:19:12
Games won’t take their toll on Arsenal this season. They were out the domestic cups so early that they’ll play a maximum of 53 games in any case. Though Arteta has had the luxury of choosing his best 11 for the vast majority of the season, something he hasn’t hesitated to do, a physical toll won’t impact Arsenal’s season unless they pick up injuries.
A loss in the Champions League and another likely trophy-less season, however, would probably ruin their title challenge. These are serious times for Arteta - he’s been in charge four and a half years, won almost nothing, and cannot continue to spend like Man City for much longer. He needs to win one of the two big prizes this season.

4.) 22 Mar 2024 07:14:51
Only 2 games I can see possiblity of city dropping points is arsenal+ spurs, rest they will win handy I think. arsenal will draw a blank in some game they would expect to win, also they have city, utd and spurs all away. we have tough run in of away games at end, west ham+everton (possibly) +fulham all away in a week. everton looks like it going to be that week. V hard to look beyond city unfortunately.

5.) 22 Mar 2024 09:25:35
LoweLFC, I disagree slightly here. The games will now come back to back to back for Arsenal and it could take it's toll on them physically mainly becos Arteta does NOT rotate almost at all. Saka plays 90 mins every game, Jesus can't stay fit, Nketiah never plays and Zinchenko is injury prone. And the likes of Elneny, Cedric, Reece Williams (all like Nketiah) never see the pitch either and Partey just came back from a long lay off. Same with Timber. That's a lot, mate.

For me and most importantly with that brutal schedule they have in their final 10 games (City, Spurs, Utd, Wolves, Brighton away with Chelsea and Villa at home), there are going to be some seriously trying times for them with the calendar they have coming up. We shall see how they handle it.

6.) 22 Mar 2024 10:09:28
Yeh Digger but if they DO drop points in them games they could be six points behind us. That happens we win the league.

7.) 22 Mar 2024 10:26:45
Olired - It’s certainly possible they hit a wall and don’t have the energy to pull themselves over. I just think that, for a top 6 club, 50-odd games can be considered a pretty standard season - should they make it to the CL final it won’t be their 63rd game of the season like it was for us.
(You’re right about Arteta - he doesn’t rotate and has been quite fortunate with injuries for two seasons. )
I just think a loss in the CL/ PL would be a lot more damaging to them than tiredness.

8.) 22 Mar 2024 10:35:43
Only results the squad can affect are our own.

Aim to win every game we have left is all we can do. If Arsenal do the same then it’s down to goal difference.

None of us predicted losing last Sunday and I think all 3 teams will drop points in the last 10 games. It’s just a case of us picking up more points than the other two.

9.) 22 Mar 2024 10:50:48
I think loosing would work for arsenal but not city mate. they would just be more motivated. arsenal are like a balloon waiting to be popped.

10.) 22 Mar 2024 12:32:13
Aye JK I agree, just need to focus on our own games - win every one and we win the league I think, to make life easier for us supporters they could smash a few teams as well and sort out any goal difference worries lol

That's the thing though Digger, we look at the games against Arsenal, Chelsea etc as potential banana skins for City but they can win those easy enough and then drop points to Wolves etc - hard to judge where a team drop points tbh this season or last, especially City, as they have a tendency to win those 'banana skin' type games but drop points then against teams we thought they'd smash

Definitely an interesting run in - more for neutrals than us lol, but I just really hope we can win all of our remaining matches - be great for Klopp to leave with another League title.

11.) 22 Mar 2024 16:59:24
"I just think a loss in the CL/ PL would be a lot more damaging to them than tiredness. "

Fullu agree, LoweLFC. That can also happen. Let me put it this way: There is a world where all of these scenarios happen and others where one of each of them happens. Either way, that schedule they have is brutal and trust me, it will be a hard ask, IMO.

As for us, we recognise the assignment. We win all our games, we win the title cos Arsenal ain't winning all 10 of their game. Not with that schedule, IMO. If it happens then, hats off to them. It's in our hands still, me thinks.

12.) 22 Mar 2024 21:49:51
Am I right in thinking it’s 20 years since Arsenal last won the league? It’s getting over the line that their issue which is a mental one rather than a physical one. Whilst it’s been 4 for us a number of players remain from then. I still think City will win it but in my view we should be happy with our season, as done really well with a lot of positives - nearly all signings have done well, some fantastic emerging talent that have hugely stepped up, with pick of the bunch in Bradley.

13.) 23 Mar 2024 10:25:36
HessleRedTom1980, I agree BUT we need to aim higher than this cos when the facts change, the objectives should change as well which they have cos Klopp himself said we were going for everything right after his departure announcement.

Let's give it our absolute best, aim to win every game from here on out and then well, hope for the best outcome, IMO.

Hi Ed001. Thanks for the match review mate - they must take ages and they are the best analysis of our games to read. I always look forward to them - especially after a good result! Just hope we can sort out the front 3 while Mo is away now. Personally, I would like to see Jota play - he frustrates me (with his poor passing) but I am pretty sure he is our best finisher among the 4 remaining options (without Mo) . I would play Diaz on the right (instead of Mo) and Gakpo on the left (where he seems most comfortable) and then Darwin / Jota in the middle - one starts and one subs (perm any combo! ) . Here's to a successful 2024 for all Red Fans #YNWA.

Red Stan

{Ed001's Note - very welcome Stan. Has Gakpo played on the right for us? I can only remember him playing there for a few minutes. Might be worth testing him there?}

1.) 04 Jan 2024 11:04:05
Gakpo came of the bench to play on the right in the Fulahm 4-3 game.

2.) 04 Jan 2024 14:22:57
Ed1, it seems like Gomez-Curtis-Diaz is working really well. The three of them look really fluid playing on that left side. I wouldn't change that by putting Diaz on the right. Give Elliot a crack on the right Ed? With Gakpo, we probably need to change the way play.

{Ed001's Note - Elliott would require change too, I would go with Gakpo.}

3.) 04 Jan 2024 14:41:27
Ed001 mate how do you think Nunez would fare on the right. He does seem to drift out there and a lot of his assists come from that side.

{Ed001's Note - I like him in the middle.}

4.) 04 Jan 2024 18:08:09
Diaz has been great the last couple of matches so leave him where he is. Nunez has to play against Arsenal this week just for his work alone. I'd go w Gakpo on the right but honestly happy to see whatever Klopp comes up with. Think we're in for a great game Sunday. We will have to rotate for Fulham so I think Klopp goes with his strongest side Sunday as opposed to against Fulham.

5.) 04 Jan 2024 20:16:44
Nunez should always play in the CF position whenever he plays or starts, IMO.

6.) 04 Jan 2024 21:22:22
I'd like to see Elliott on the left which leads me to prefer two striker types with him.

I think I'd like a look of Jota (LW) Nunez (ST) and Elliott (RW)

I thought Diaz was superb last game and Gakpo is pushing nicely but I think the above might be the best combination right now. Or at least a combination of like to see.

If Nunez was banging them in I would go Diaz but he isn't so that's why I ve gone Jota. Jota is there for the goals.

Elliott is in to replace the creativity and left foot that Salah bring.

And Nunez is there for the chaos and pace in behind that Salah brings.

Replacing Salah must be done by committee and I think that front three could work.

Other combinations work too. The only player I would consider must be part of the front three without Salah is Nunez. I know I know, he misses lots of chances but we need him in more than ever for everything else he brings with Salah out.

7.) 05 Jan 2024 04:44:00
Agreed need Nunez for the madness that he must be to play against. I don't think he knows what he's doing next so the defenders have no idea ?. But Diaz has to play for me he's all over the pitch and interchanging so well w Jones and JoGo. Diaz is always looking for work with and without the ball and for that reason he has to be in for me. Jota so great to have him back. We'll replace Salah w 3-4 players not 1.

8.) 05 Jan 2024 13:58:46
Davey Sulls and Redlyer, one can argue that Nunez's qualities actuall bring the best out of Salah and the others like Diaz due to the pressure he puts on the oppo. back line even tho, his finishing needs lots of work.

Oli I don't think a lot of work but yes think we'd all agree needs to improve. To be fair to him, he's getting in the positions and Dubravka did make 2-3 good stops from him. 2-3 other scenarios tho bit more composure. Put the ball wide of the keeper or know when to go over or under or around (and not hit the post! ) . He starts banging them in no stopping us this season imo.

Hi Ed001. Loved the match review as ever mate. I hate to burst your bubble, but Jota has lost his "we never lose when Jota scores" record already. He scored against Toulouse last week! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :-)

Red Stan

{Ed001's Note - not in the league he hasn't.}

1.) 14 Nov 2023 21:52:55
Where is the match report?

2.) 14 Nov 2023 22:06:04
Yep. Don't see one either. Is it up ed?

{Ed001's Note - yes it is on football-news-views.co.uk as always.}

3.) 14 Nov 2023 22:34:12
Sorry to be a pain, but could someone please point me in the direction of the latest match review? I've searched and can't seem to find it. I'm sure I'm having a moment but is the match review for the Brentford game up yet? Thanks.

{Ed033's Note - LFC v Brentford match review

Great review Ed and thanks for your time in doing these. Totally agree that the tactics seem to be complicating things unnecessarily at the moment. Really hope we can push forward and the strikers find a bit of form. Like you, I love Nunez but just wish he would settle down a bit and start to pop a few into the net! Here's wishing for a good week ahead #YNWA.

Thanks Ed001 - found it there. Great analysis of the game. Surely JK must see that this inverted FB system is not right for us? After all, Jk is the man in charge and not PL.

Thanks for the GP review Ed001. Great as ever mate. What an absolute shambles it was and the worst case of "refereeing" I have ever seen in sport - let alone F1. In engineering the result they wanted, they have made an absolute joke of the sport. I actually feel a bit sorry for MV, as although I wanted Lewis to win (which he clearly deserved to) MV has been great this season and now his "victory" is nothing but a fake. It is also odd that the appeal is to the same body that decided the result and manipulated it all anyway, so that is clearly a waste of time. I am not expert enough to comment on the situation with CAS, so that is that. I suspect that MB will take the moral high ground and leave it be. There is nothing they can do anyway, so they may as well (unless CAS can intervene, which I just don't know) . Terrible ending to a pretty good season.

Hi Ed001. Just wanted to say thanks for the review of the F1 (Saudi) . These are as good as your match reviews. We all appreciate how much time these take so cheers for your work mate. I actually always have been a big LH fan, although I do get that he's not everyone's favourite. I think Sunday will be epic - and just hope it stays on the track and doesn't get decided in the Stewards Office - which you could almost give to Red Bull now if that's the case. Fingers crossed that LH wins and we can sit back and watch Christian Horner whinge all winter. Lol.

Red Stan

{Ed001's Note - if Max gets the chance, I expect it will be just like Prost-Senna and Senna-Prost in Japan sadly.}
