Seen some rumours Man Utd have bid for Ugarte. Has our interest ended since the tapping up or is he player we still may make a move for.

{Ed002's Note - Manuel Ugarte (DM) Agent has said that the player and PSG may be open to a move if the right offer is made. He has spoken with Chelsea but it is difficult to see if they have a need. He has also spoken with Manchester United, Juventus, Newcastle, Milan, Spurs and Arsenal. I suspect Italy is the most likely destination but PSG might see any sale being dependent on adding Guimaraes although, right now, he appears to be heading elsewhere.}

1.) 26 Jun 2024 10:51:14
Thank you Ed002.

2.) 26 Jun 2024 12:05:34
Sorry to ask here, Ed002. I searched the other pages, is city most likely for Guimaraes?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, they are one of the interested sides and very keen.}

3.) 26 Jun 2024 14:30:54
Another day, another top drawer player going to City : (.

4.) 26 Jun 2024 18:16:13
Patrik, we made the choice of not moving on Guimaraes in January 2022, despite following him for a while.

Luckily, we have Mac Allister who is as good, has a better temperament and is younger.

I still think Ugarte would be a good signing for Liverpool, despite his struggles in Paris. He might not as technical as Tchouameni or Rodri (who is? ) but he will make up for that in sheer ball recovery output. I'd also wager that like Darwin and his compatriot, Suarez, he'll feed (no pun) off the fan energy to overperform.

At the same time, Ederson would be a fine choice.

5.) 26 Jun 2024 18:40:29
Not good enough for PSG and not good enough for us. We need a midfielder who can use the ball as well as he can win it. Ugarte is very limited in this regard, said the same thing last year when we"missed out"on him.

6.) 26 Jun 2024 18:42:28
I will second that FPY. Manuel Ugarte would be a solid addition. His ball recovery is second to none.

7.) 26 Jun 2024 20:01:14
Personally I’d rather we sign Ederson over either of those as he absolutely dominated us over two legs and was one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe last season.

8.) 27 Jun 2024 00:18:43
Ederson all day.

9.) 27 Jun 2024 02:48:59
Ugarte is really not great on the ball, I’m hoping all of you who slate Endo in that regard aren’t asking for Ugarte as a replacement, Endo in my eyes is rather better at using the ball than he is…we need a 6 who can also break the lines carrying the ball or passing it from deep, ederson fits the mould perfectly.

Hi Ed002, have Juventus made a better offer for Koopmeiners. Would Liverpool / Juventus like to get the deal done before the Euros?

{Ed002's Note - Teun Koopmeiners (CM/DM) Atalanta are reluctant to sell but his agent wants the player to be playing regularly in the Champions League with Newcastle, Juventus and Napoli having declared interest. Interest of Milan shifted to Tijjani Reijnders so they can be discounted. Liverpool offer a good option for the player but will be reluctant to meet the asking price - but they are very keen. Marseille have walked away due to the quoted cost although a change of ownership could see a huge shift for them. Approaches were been made to Arsenal, Manchester United, Spurs and Chelsea although none have spoken with Atalanta and all have other targets for now but cannot be discounted. In particular Chelsea have considered him as a replacement if Conor Gallagher departs. Brighton and Aston Villa interest has gone. Juventus has a creative solution and will push for a summer move knowing that the player wants Juventus move. Atalanta are seeking €60M if pressed to sell and feeling is Liverpool or Juventus will win out with Juventus already in discussions - but they want to include a player in the deal to reduce the price.}

1.) 03 Jun 2024 17:54:28
Could be a great shout as our DM or no6. Slot Seems to like using attack minded players who are good on the ball in this position. Guess Mac Allister might also fit the bill, if he isn’t playing further up the pitch. I would prefer more of a “Destroyer” type no6 personally, but from what I have seen of Slots tactics (all be it from YouTube reviews) then Koopmeiners could do well.

2.) 03 Jun 2024 19:43:30
Ed, do you think Slot will use Trent in midfield or keep him as an inverted wingback? I don't know anything about his tactics.

{Ed002's Note - I really don’t know what his plans are.}

3.) 03 Jun 2024 19:43:30
Ed, do you think Slot will use Trent in midfield or keep him as an inverted wingback? I don't know anything about his tactics.

{Ed001's Note - I think it will depend on fitness as Trent will be at the Euros. I would think long term Trent will play midfield, but act as cover at full-back.}

21 May 2024 08:13:19
Is Bakayoko of PSV a realistic target.

{Ed002's Note - Try searching.}

18 May 2024 14:01:13
I remember 2 years ago we were heavily linked with Ismala Sarr. Was the interest real and he now seems to have fallen away.

{Ed002's Note - He moved to Marseille. Interest has moved on.}

12 May 2024 18:30:50
See us linked with Anthony Gordon now, anything in this?

{Ed002's Note - Anthony Gordon (W) Left footed winger who has had a good season but is not attracting interest. Newcastle need sales before June 30 and want to hold on to Guimaraes and Isak but may let Gordon move on with a perhaps Yankuba Minthe slotting in when he leaves Feyenoord, who want another loan, in the summer. I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool, and the price Newcastle would demand likely puts a transfer out of reach.}

1.) 12 May 2024 23:37:37
Yeah they overpaid for him and will want more to sell him.
Decent player but not at crazy prices.

2.) 13 May 2024 06:06:06
He plays most of his best games when the team are a couple of goals up.

3.) 13 May 2024 10:29:12
Would be surprising to see us buy anyone from Newcastle again, unless it is a youth prospect.

4.) 13 May 2024 11:58:54
Top player and has the a fantastic head on his shoulders and top attitude. I highly recommend his overlap interview with Gary Neville to anyone who hasn’t seen it.

5.) 13 May 2024 13:05:18
Obviously the ‘fantastic’ reference stops at the follicles on his head…that’s one bad Barnet that is!

6.) 13 May 2024 13:45:25
Seems to be getting a lot of traction this morning. Good player who can play right across the attack. Came across as a Liverpool fan in his interview as well. Said Gerrard is his idol and he models his game on Salah. Gordon, Gakpo and Diaz as options on the wings would be scintillating. All 3 love to drop the shoulder and run at players.

7.) 13 May 2024 18:11:53
I think he's good and would take him but would be very expensive and I doubt he could afford it unless Salah goes for mega bucks.

8.) 14 May 2024 08:37:20
I like the use of the words head and shoulders when talking about Gordon, Oney.

9.) 14 May 2024 14:14:34
Allison is over 30. He will take longer and longer to recover from injuries now and will get slower. This isn't the Frist Division of old where at the very top, players regulalry went on to their late-30s. The pace and demands of the game are far harder now and Allison is not gong to be any better than he is - he has peaked and you've seen the best of him. I personally wion't be surprised if one of the first things Arne Slot looks at is the whole defensive unit because it is struggling to function cohesively and has been for most of the season.

10.) 14 May 2024 22:00:12
David James, David Seaman, Brad Friedel all played regularly in the premier league in their 40s.

I really find it hilarious to read some comments on here that Trent. " can't defend" " No positional sense"
Is he the best defensive full back, No. but his positives outweigh his negatives.
When Hendo's/ Fab/ Matips legs went they could no longer fill the spaces he left. Is that his fault? We could all see his instructions where to get forward and create.
One of the best full backs in the last 6 years. Numbers that put other full backs to shame with assists.
No team can go to 2 champions league finals, winning one, win the league and narrowly miss out on 2 more by carrying any poor players.
Surely to get the amount of assists he has I would imagine you have to be an intelligent player and be positionally sound with unbelievable technical ability.
Granted he has had some nightmare performances, who doesn't. Kyle walker has embarrassing performances every other week but not a mention of it. Without his pace he wouldn't even be a professional footballer if we are honest.
There is no other player in world football who can dictate or change a game from right full, and create and assist as much as he does.

1.) 24 Jun 2024 14:03:33
I know, it's amazing we won literally everything that an English club can win with such an apparently terrible player at right back, isn't it?

Slot likes inverted wing backs. Trent will likely play as an inverted right wing back, and will do so successfully (whatever my personal opinions about the system) .

The only argument against him doing that is Conor Bradley, and whilst we cannot continue indefinitely with 2 quality right backs at the club, because one will become unhappy, Bradley is 20 and has less than half a season worth of first team appearances at this level. I'm not quite calling that ready to take over as first choice to be honest. So we can shelve it for a season. Maybe 2.

There will be a dip from Bradley somewhere too, btw. Cos nearly every player has to deal with said dip somewhere in their development. I hope when that happens our fans support him instead of suggesting his head's gotten too big and he's no good, like many are doing with Trent currently.

2.) 24 Jun 2024 15:04:13
Nah let’s be real. I love Trent but his defending and attitude towards defending has been awful the last couple of seasons. I don’t mind him getting beaten in 1vs1 occasionally but his recovery when players go past him is awful and often shows arrogance in his lack of care.

Again I love Trent and when he is on his game he is a decent defender but when he is off which has been more often than not last couple years he is an absolute liability.

I thought this move into midfield may work but given how ponderous he looks in there and again his lack of work rate I do fear we now have a conundrum moving forwards. Hope he sorts himself out though cz he’s is by far our most creative player - just struggle to see how Slot motivates him to defend when Klopp couldn’t but time will tell.

3.) 24 Jun 2024 15:15:33
Well said Jimmy B and -SR-. Trent clearly can defend and he clearly can play right back, so the debate really should be about how well he does or doesn't defend, what aspects he struggles with or excels at, and whether he can be even better in another position. I don't think anybody will tell you he's one of the best defensive right backs in history, but if you look across the Prem right now there really isn't many who are specialist defenders. The one who gets away with it the most is Walker because he has insane recovery speed. But even he is prone to losing his man, playing someone onside or being caught out of position. The best teams put more priority on playing with attacking right/ left backs or at the minimum playing out from the back. So ability with the ball is as much if not more important for a full backs/ wing back today.

In my opinion, the top class right backs in the league are White, Trent, Porro, Trippier, Walker, Dalot and James. For me they all combine a good blend of ability with and without the ball. Some are better defensively, some are better offensively. I also think in Lewis, Liveramento, Bradley and Gusto there are really talented young right backs who could be top class one day. I don't think many of them are significantly better than Trent defensively when you talk about the overall art of defending. White is probably the only one and he started as a CB so it's no surprise. We know Trent struggles against wingers with lightning pace if they isolate him 1v1 (such as Martinelli and Doku) and we know he struggles defending against powerful strikers at the back post (such as DCL or Mitrovic) . There is a lot more to defending than those two things though and he excels at a lot of them which is why one of the best managers of this generation decided to mould Trent into his first choice RB.

If our fans hound Trent out of the club because they thought Southgate knew better than Klopp, it will be a crying shame.

4.) 24 Jun 2024 18:10:12
Spot on, MKS and the other lads. The whole Trent can't defend rubbish is jut someone who has been waiting for him to struggle defensively cos in the 4 years prior to the last couple of seasons which coincides with the whole team struggling, really, NOBODY ever said this to the level they have been say. it's like snakes in the long grass waiting patiently for Trent to stub his toes and then strike.

Like MKS said, Trent is decent (I would say good to very good) defensively when he has to be and the litany of games are there for proof. The flaws he has (like being switched on, being aggressive and decisive in his inteventions and can be overpowered by physical attackers) are things he lacks BUT hey, if Klopp wanted a defensive guru at RB, Trent would have been sold sold already, end of.

MKS also said Trent struggles with wingers with pace. Wait, which RB doesn't doesn't? I am yet to see a RB shackle Vini jnr who is as lightening quick as they come. Or Mbappe when he plays on the left. In the end, I do not see any of the RB's in the PL better than Trent defensively either and NONE of them are a patch on him with the ball at his feet. Not a sigle one, I tell ya. love the kid and hope he finds a position he can now flourish in, like he did years prior.

5.) 24 Jun 2024 18:13:38
"If our fans hound Trent out of the club because they thought Southgate knew better than Klopp, it will be a crying shame. "

One last thing, MKS. Anyone engaging the above is just someone who is being disingenuous in a bid to bash Tren. They themselves know The Waist Coat is not fit to carry Klopp's glasses yet have no issue engaging in such crap.

{Ed025's Note - i think you are going well over the top Oli, nobody is hounding anyone and nobody is saying Southgate knows better than Klopp either ffs, give your arse a chance mate and stop making things up to suit your own agenda, we all get it...you think Trent is the second coming and thats fine, we dont care if you get a boner at the mention of his name...just stop telling lies..

6.) 24 Jun 2024 19:00:10
This is getting out of hand ?.
TAA is playing midfield because England is lacking midfielders, it seems to me.
It's England's problem not Liverpool's or TAA's. He isn't being hounded out of the England or Liverpool squad.
It looks like it's ok to insult and abuse Southgate though.

{Ed025's Note - spot on Rigsby...but it is ok to insult Southgate mate because he aint got a scooby.. :)

7.) 24 Jun 2024 19:06:12
Some people just love to be melodramatic.

10 posters on a website is hardly going to influence Trents decision on his future.

8.) 24 Jun 2024 19:17:28
Ed025, open your eyes mate. Most football fans in England are hounding Trent and implying Southgate knows more than Klopp regarding Trent. Whether they realise they’re doing that or not is irrelevant. The guys won everything and there was a thread on a Liverpool fan site saying he doesn’t fit in any position!

{Ed025's Note - its just peoples opinions MK there is nothing wrong with that, for me hes a Square peg in a round hole as a midfielder mate but again thats just my point of view, you and Oli laud him up as the second coming then when he fails to deliver get all defensive of him...that is on you two im afraid..

9.) 24 Jun 2024 19:23:46
I don't think many people say Trent can't defend, I certainly never have. It isn't his 1on1 defending that's the issue, it's that he loses his man coming in at the back post on corners and crosses constantly, it is arguably the fullbacks most important job, one Robertson is very good at, but with Trent it happens over and over and over and over again you can almost predict it. He's a top class attacker and a decent enough defender but it is a known weakness that will continue to be targeted. We didn't win everything with Trent at RB because he's a brilliant defender he was able to shine there because he always had the workman like midfield or Hendo etc to cover and support him. Our midfield isn't set up like that anymore so it's no wonder he has been so exposed.
I don't have the answer regarding Trent because I simply don't know where he's best placed to get the best team balance. Slots problem to solve.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely spot on Westwood, bravo mate..

10.) 24 Jun 2024 19:37:23
Jk23, unfortunately it’s not just 10 posters on here. It’s most of social media, most of the British media, and a worryingly large section of Liverpool fans. If I were him, I’d genuinely be going to Real Madrid just to get away from it all. When it’s so universally everywhere there is no way he’s not seeing a lot of it. English football definitely doesn’t deserve him. You said yourself on an earlier post, he gets held to a much higher standard than other right backs when it comes to mistakes. There’s no way he’s not aware of that.

{Ed025's Note - get over yourself MK, why do you think most supporters including some Liverpool ones dont believe he is all that?, its because he is not producing the goods mate pure and simple, and it certainly does not help the lads cause when the likes of you are describing him as a generational talent and one of the best players in Europe ffs...thats too much pressure to live up to, take a long hard look in the mirror and ask yourself why he is underperforming...weight of expectancy..

11.) 24 Jun 2024 20:13:44
As long as it doesn't go too far, Ed025. Southgate deserves some stick but some are up in arms when TAA gets some criticism.
People are allowed to question his selection and performances. But he isn't a scapegoat and there is no witch hunt. The media love a story and a target but Trent isn't either. We're top of the group and will qualify but we need to improve a lot to do anything worthwhile in the tournament. That might be without TAA but we don't have many other options.

{Ed025's Note - i just dont like how he sets the team up Rigsby, not a fan at all mate..

12.) 24 Jun 2024 20:45:50
Mk I’ll be honest I’m not on social media so I don’t see it and if pundits want to critique Trent then he’s probably used to it as he’s had it his whole career.

Trent is loved at Anfield so unless he goes surfing the net looking for it then I doubt he’ll be overly fussed as he seems like a player with thick skin.

If other teams fans want to say he’s crap then that’s up to them. Let’s be honest LFC fans aren’t exactly for he coming when it comes to praising other teams players either.

Seen a post further down were Gallagher who has nothing to do with Southgate’s selection or pundits opinions is getting mocked as a form of defence for Trent.

We have an excellent squad with lots of fantastic players. But the truth is there also lots of other fantastic players out there as well as teams and squads.

13.) 24 Jun 2024 20:55:57
He’s not really underperforming though, Ed025. I think most fans have been swayed by the constant agenda against him online and in the media. Southgate has decided to play him in a new position with virtually no preparation and everyone has just lost all composure and perspective. If he’s underperforming so badly why do Madrid want him? They have the money and pulling power to target anyone in world football.

I guarantee you he will be first choice next season under Slot. I don’t know if he’ll stay at RB or move to CM. He might even move to a new position entirely. But he will start most games and he’ll probably get 10-15 assists (again) . I’m bored defending him now. I’m going to go polish my silverware so it’s nice and shiny in 10 months time, ready to spoon feed the fickle masses their humble pie.

{Ed025's Note - good on you MK, its ok to have different views mate it makes the world go around, i do respect you as one of the best posters on here but if i think you are wrong i will tell you...and that works both ways and i wouldn,t have it any other way..

14.) 24 Jun 2024 21:10:43
I respect you too Ed025, even though you can be bitter ? Let’s put this whole thing down to a lovers tiff and move on now because I’m wearing away the glass on my phone touch screen!

{Ed025's Note - and i have got cramp in my 1 typing finger MK, makes a difference from the usual type of cramp i get though mate.. :)

15.) 24 Jun 2024 23:00:22
So TAA playing out of position has helped his country qualify for the next stage of the Euros.
What a player and what a move by Southgate ?.

{Ed025's Note - Sir Gareth Southgate you mean Rigsby..

16.) 25 Jun 2024 10:59:19
Play nicely everyone?.

17.) 25 Jun 2024 07:42:36
You never know, Ed025.
It's being reported that Gallagher is to replace TAA but Trent has already done his job by helping us qualify.
We are growing into the tournament and have momentum by Spain beating Albania ?.

{Ed025's Note - thats why i dont rate Southgate Rigsby, Gallagher is not an upgrade on Trent its just the same midfield with a different name, he has not got a clue mate..

18.) 25 Jun 2024 11:50:18
Ed25, nowhere am I making this up to suit any agenda cos MKS has already confirmed that the agendas are out there on SM so if you are not on there, you wouldn't know it. That's not my problem cos I say what is exactly happening in the spaces you don't frequent. That does not make my opinions and arguments invalid either, mind you.

Either way, MKS has explained the issue with how fans are disingenuous and got at Trent especially on SM way better than I would so if you want to know what I think, read his responses. Peace.

{Ed025's Note - i really only do this site and one other Oli, im not a big fan of social media myself mate, it seems to be full of knob heads "no offence meant" peace..

19.) 25 Jun 2024 13:59:07
Isn't this site a form of social media?

20.) 25 Jun 2024 16:30:03
More of a forum isn't it Rigsby? I'd love it if this was more like social media because it think people would be a lot more respectful to the Ed's, other posters and the Liverpool players if they couldn't hide behind anonymity. Some people definitely like their own posts multiple times as well.

18 Jun 2024 13:56:44
I know it's very unlikely and very rarely happens, but I'm surprised we are not making a move for Branthwaite, one of the top young centre backs in the premier league.

1.) 18 Jun 2024 14:30:21
He plays for Everton. Not only that, he is their most, and probably only, prized asset.
I really like Branthwaite and would buy him immediately, but unless he demands a move to his club’s local rivals, it isn’t happening.

2.) 18 Jun 2024 15:39:18
Never ever going to happen. He’ll end up at United or City (sorry Ed025).

3.) 18 Jun 2024 15:40:28
Jimmy, the guy plays for Everton. Need I say more? Seriously, they wouldn't even sell us a virus let alone their best player and most prized asset, like LoweLFC, said.

4.) 18 Jun 2024 15:33:30
Is he even that good? I think he has potential but his positioning in some games I’ve seen has been pretty suspect, also I’m not totally sure that he’s that suited to a front foot team that builds from the back, he has great physical attributes and looks like he can go up a few levels over time but people saying he’s going to be better than stones (when he doesn’t even look like a similar kind of player at all) or Everton fans saying he’s going to be the next maldini just make him look so much worse in my eyes than he actually is.

{Ed025's Note - hes exceptional PB, comfortable on the ball, good in the air and left footed, as far as centre backs go hes the next big thing mate believe me, i cant see him being at Everton next season but someone (probably United) are going to get one hell of a player mate..

5.) 18 Jun 2024 15:37:36
Out of all the good young English players in the premier league, I think only Wharton is probably worth anything approaching that kind of money

And out of quansah and branthwaite, I much prefer quansah (of course ed025 is probably going to make some kind of quip now), quansah too has all the tools to make it to the very top except elite pace, also he isn’t receiving the obscene hype that branthwaite is getting, even though I’ve seen branthwaite make way more mistakes than quansah (granted Everton has to do a lot more defending than us so his shortcomings are more patent)

{Ed025's Note - Quansah and Branthwaite are similar PB....in the fact that they both have 2 arms and 2 legs...then the similarity ends, i happen to like Quansah but in terms of ability Jarrad is on a different planet mate..

6.) 18 Jun 2024 15:59:33
Jarrad is overrated, the next maguire.

7.) 18 Jun 2024 16:05:57
He doesn’t really look super dominant in the air to me though when you look at him he seems like he should be, and the games I’ve seen he doesn’t look amazing on the ball either, I guess it’s hard to judge because of the way Everton play but there doesn’t seem to me to be that much proof that he can play for a team that builds from the back and has the center backs involved all the time in a dominant possession based style (in which case he suits United perfectly)
Who knows, ed025, in five years quansah could be the first name on the team sheet for England and branthwaite, despite being a good player, is after all joining United and could turn out to be the next Phil Jones, who after all also looked an excellent prospect at one time.

{Ed025's Note - you can never tell with young players PB as some will succeed and some wont, i think both of them have a very good chance though and who knows could be the future pairing for the national side mate..

8.) 18 Jun 2024 16:33:47
Dyches tactics do make big lumps Of defenders look better tho Ed! just look at Tarkowski. Think Branthwaite in a footballing side would be a bit like John Terry under Villas Boas, all over the shop unlike our Jarell whos like a young Beckenbauer.

{Ed025's Note - Tarks actually had the best defensive stats in the league June, our central pairing conceded half the amount of your Rolls Royces mate...mind you our lads dont have girly goo hair cuts which makes a difference.. :)

9.) 18 Jun 2024 16:52:33
To be fair Everton have had a fair few next big things over the years, Rodwell, Barkley spring to mind.

I’ll stick with Quansah thanks. Everton players would need to come with a money back guarantee ??.

{Ed025's Note - Quansah has potential Irish...Branthwaite is already there mate, but i do like the money back guarantee shout.. :)

10.) 18 Jun 2024 17:11:47
“Exceptional” behave he has grit and determination but Everton had better players like John Stones on the ball etc. To say he’s on another planet to Quansah is also ludicrous. I imagine there will be another Everton hero next season who’s the be all and end all. Mind you Ed25 said Trent wasn’t that good.

{Ed025's Note - i do know my onions when it comes to players FK, Jarrad will be a future England captain mate and Trent could be working at Mc Donalds if hes not careful....thats a joke by the way before the abuse starts.. :)

11.) 18 Jun 2024 17:26:01
Funny you should mention that Ed, cuz tarkowski’s defensive stats actually look better than branthwaite’s on paper….

{Ed025's Note - its good to have a solid Mondeo next to your Bentley PB..

12.) 18 Jun 2024 18:44:23
Going from Everton to United isn't much better than going from Everton to Liverpool.
I know Rooney did it but at least United had a good side back then.

13.) 18 Jun 2024 18:48:13
Ed025, who died and made you "Mr. Football know it all"? ???

(Sorry, but fulfilling my duty of ensuring "what goes around comes around" is duly observed ???) .

{Ed025's Note - love it ArAy.. :)

14.) 18 Jun 2024 20:08:55
Ed25, is Branthwaite "already there" the same way Andre Gomez "was "already there"?

{Ed025's Note - Gomes got a very bad injury that scuppered his Everton career im afraid Oli, but he never bawled his eyes out for 4 months like VVD did, he just got on with it mate...thats the difference..

15.) 18 Jun 2024 21:42:07
It's true that Gomes couldn't run very well after his 'very bad' injury. He couldn't run very well before his 'very bad' injury.
He just got on with not running very well.

{Ed025's Note - a certain Mr Jan Molby was not that mobile Rigsby, running is overrated mate...its what you have between your ears that counts..

16.) 18 Jun 2024 22:43:19
That's a fair point, Ed025.
How did Gomes' very bad leg injury scupper his Everton career then? ?
Gomes was alright and a nice bloke I believe but he didn't do anything quickly.
Big Jan was imperious. Strolling round with his chest puffed out, he didn't have to do things quickly because the game was played at his pace.
He even learned to speak Scouse.

{Ed025's Note - i was a massive fan of Jan Rigsby, always seemed to have time on the ball and could put the ball on a sixpence from 50 yards mate..

12 May 2024 15:32:54
Ed001 mate, what's your thoughts on Jones?
Is he good enough to be a regular starter.
It seems every time he gets a good run of games he's then out with a lengthy injury.
It will be interesting to see do we look to cash in on him this summer with the likes of Bajetic, Elliot, Endo, Mac, Szobo, Gravenberch not likely to be moving and with possibly new additions.

{Ed001's Note - it doesn't matter if he is good enough if he can't stay fit.}

1.) 12 May 2024 16:40:26
I can't see us getting much money for Jones but I'd let him go.
He's an inferior version of Adam Lallana. Has too many touches on the ball and slows things down without creating anything.

2.) 12 May 2024 17:59:22
Agree with you, Rigsby. Some folk on here used to say he was as good as Phil Foden. Never saw it myself.

3.) 12 May 2024 18:57:48
It's easy to say that about Jones in hindsight but I'm going to say Harvey Elliott will leave us frustrated, too.
He's flavour of the month at the minute and I'd keep him but only because of his versatility. He can cover the front wide positions and midfield but that's it for me. He'll be a cover player.
He's not quick enough for a forward or strong enough for midfield. I can't ever see him being a player that we can't leave out.
I hope I'm wrong but I'll say it now and not two years down the line when I suspect we'll still be waiting for him to nail down a regular starting spot.
Gravenberch is the same. I'd get shut this summer and bring in someone that at least looks they could do job when called upon.

4.) 12 May 2024 21:45:19
Curtis Jones was in midfield for our best performances this season. Injuries are the real concern for Curtis.

{Ed025's Note - i personally think hes on a par with Tom Davies FPF..

5.) 12 May 2024 20:49:13
I agree with you about Elliott, too. I can't ever see him nailing down a position, but, like you, I hope we keep him. Again, I hope he proves me wrong. And, Rigsby, you must qualify for the second most miserable git on here, because I totally agree about Gravenberch. As the saying is, if he's the answer I'm not sure what the question was. As you say, get shut.

6.) 12 May 2024 23:49:48
Grav hasn’t been here a year yet. Been out with an injury and struggled with physicality/ pace of prem. give the lad a chance .

7.) 13 May 2024 03:22:32
Rigsby nailed it w both his comments. Jones is like Gakpo in thinking he can counter faster with the ball at his feet than he can by passing it.

8.) 13 May 2024 06:49:14
The best ability is availability so Curtis is struggling.

9.) 13 May 2024 07:46:33
John, why do you think he's struggled with the pace and physicality of the PL? He didn't do much in the Europa or the Bundesliga either.
If he'd shown glimpses of ability then I'd be more patient with him but from what I've seen we'll just be hoping that there's a player that can hack the PL.

10.) 13 May 2024 08:13:01
Ed 25, only Tom Davies?
Not at least the world class Andre Gomez?
Then I did say Origi was the equivalent of Grame Sharp, almost Dixie Dean. Just missing out by a whisker.

{Ed025's Note - we all compare our players with somebody else sg and in the end its just about opinions, i once compared Nunez to coco the clown so sometimes im not far out mate.. :)

11.) 13 May 2024 10:10:45
Coco was a good pro to be fair Ed025.

{Ed025's Note - he really was Ron, maybe if Darwin hit the goalie with a custard pie just before he shoots his XG would go through the roof mate:)

12.) 13 May 2024 10:43:53
Who s Tom Davies?

{Ed025's Note -exactly mate.... ex- Everton midfielder now plying his trade from the bench for Sheffield united WDW.. :)

13.) 13 May 2024 11:41:45
Ed25, it is you who keeps comparing your players to our and NOT the other way around. Personally, I have NEVER been accused of comparing any of our players to ANY Everton player let alone the hapless Tom Davies (does he still have a career, at this pint), nor would I ever do such a thing. Just saying.

{Ed025's Note - there is nothing wrong with comparisons Oli, its just a gauge of the ability of the player mate, its not set in stone its just an opinion and a nicer way to judge a player rather than labeling them crap or dross i think..

14 Mar 2024 10:42:03
Ed001 mate is Quansah a player the club expected to be playing first team football for us in cup games etc this season or was he going out on loan. Crazy how an injury to Matip has just fast tracked his career and looks the real deal.

{Ed001's Note - the plan was always to look at him in preseason and make a decision. He did so well in preseason that it was decided to bring him into the first team rather than send him out on loan. I think the idea was to have him replace Matip when his contract expires in the summer though, it has just been moved forward due to the injury.}

1.) 14 Mar 2024 11:04:28
He's doing brilliantly so far from what I've seen. Arguably better than Matip yet still only 21. Keep it up Jarell and keep learning from the master alongside you.

We've been lucky he's stepped up this season - I really rate Konate but he seems to struggle to put a long run of games together. Still only 24 though so plenty time to sort that out!

2.) 14 Mar 2024 11:59:51
Think he has been a revelation maybe now we have a class of 24 like the mancs class of 99? Wouldn’t go as far as to say he is better than Matip tho atm. Close tho the lads been brilliant.

3.) 14 Mar 2024 12:18:58
Centre back is not an easy position for a young player to step into at a club the size of Liverpool. He is an exceptional talent. Super excited to see what he can become.

4.) 14 Mar 2024 13:48:09
The lad really is making a name for himself. Thankfully we didn't send him out on loan, he's solid and I see him being so important in the future. This season he's just getting into the swing of things, next season he's all in. Good luck to the lad, if he stays injury free and keeps a level head he's laughing.

5.) 14 Mar 2024 15:14:02
he seems like the perfect replacement for Matip. He's even had flashes of those galivanting runs into the box.

6.) 14 Mar 2024 15:39:41
Our young men have really stood up to be counted when needed this season, but in my eyes the one that allows us to play is Endo, he's the one player that gives other the freedom to play.
Under the raidar of most of the media and some of the fans.

7.) 14 Mar 2024 15:50:34
Plus he is only going to get better and better, when he fills out a bit more, he will be a big unit .

8.) 14 Mar 2024 18:15:55
If Quansah can find an extra yard of pace he’ll be class. We still probably need another CB in the summer with Matip leaving and Konate injury prone though. I’d sign a young left footed CB, and a young attacking left back to hopefully take over from Robertson / Gomez in a few years, Tsimikas should be sold.

Will then have a defence of:
CBs - Virg, Konate, New CB, Quansah, Gomez
RBs - Bradley, Trent, Gomez
LBs - Robbo, Gomez, New LB

Good cover there with Gomez being able to play everywhere. Would be interesting to see if Chambers / Beck could take up the young LB role in pre season.

9.) 15 Mar 2024 02:46:24
Jarell isn't better than Matip but he definitely shows more promise than Williams and Philips.

01 Mar 2024 08:15:04
Ed001 mate, what's your opinion on Michael Owen when with us, his goal record in the premier league was quite poor with his best season 18 league goals. Was the game just different then and do you think he would reach levels like Haaland if playing today.

{Ed001's Note - it wasn't because the game was different, it was because he missed a hell of a lot of chances. They just got forgotten because he was English so the media only talked about the good things. He was a fantastic player, but he was a very inconsistent finisher. I guess like Nunez in that regard, but with a much lower work ethic.

To be fair to him, he wasn't playing in the best of teams and they were more defensive too. He also did have a fair few injury problems with his hamstrings due to his explosive pace, which didn't help him. No matter the excuses, he simply wasn't a clinical finisher like Fowler, even though the whole team ended up built around him and getting the ball to him in dangerous areas.}

1.) 02 Mar 2024 07:17:08
Owen scored 118 goals in 216 games for Liverpool
A goal every two games there or thereabouts

The highest number of league games he played in a season for Liverpool was 35 and in that season he scored 18 goals

Like Ed says though, workrate nowhere near good enough and considering we got rid of other players to essentially build the team around him - would expect more

To be fair, he was like that in local youth club football and playing representative football for his County too

And could never be forgiven for playing for one club in his career….

{Ed001's Note - for me it was worse that he basically told Houllier it was him or Fowler and Ged picked him. Then he went and put in a transfer request anyway. That is unforgivable to make the club get rid of God and then to stick two fingers up to the club and leave on the cheap afterwards. Him going to United meant nothing to me, because he was nothing in my eyes after leaving.}

2.) 02 Mar 2024 07:17:17
I'm not owens biggest fan now but when he broke into team he was out of this world for a 17 year old I thought. i think he finished joint top goalscorer in league in his 1st season at 17/ 18. Imagine what he be worth today.

3.) 02 Mar 2024 08:08:26
No time for him. Going to united was the icing on the cake. Why any player would ever play for a bitter rival is beyond me. Total disrespect and disregard for the club. Snake!

4.) 02 Mar 2024 08:25:16
The United thing meant nothing to me to. I just always felt that England meant more to him than Liverpool did. He never really had the bond with the fans that Fowler did and also leaving for such a small fee due to running his contract down was unforgivable. A lot like McManaman in that respect.

5.) 02 Mar 2024 08:39:14
I was going to bring up the McManaman thing also Baz. The fact that both came through the academy and left for free or on the cheap, at the peak of their careers doesn’t sit well with me. Maybe it’s just me, but I think that they owe the club something back, for giving them a chance and the life that they now have. You could argue that McManaman fulfilled his contract, but I there is more to it when you Liverpool man and boy. Give the club something back!

{Ed001's Note - yeah McManaman had plenty of opportunities to sign a deal but was always wanting to leave for the money.}

6.) 02 Mar 2024 08:42:40
Owen is a far better footballer than he is a pundit.

But saying that my nan is a far better footballer than he is a pundit.

On a separate note does anyone know who started the calling of Fowler god. Was it fans, team mates or media kind of thing that got that going. I’ve tried researching it but there’s nothing out there.

7.) 02 Mar 2024 08:43:07
Exactly right on Owen and people forgetting how many chances he missed which was just as much as Darwin or even Haaland does. Remember when he gave a back-handed compliment to Darwin saying he should not have chipped the GK vs Brentford despite always saying Darwin should improve his composure. And when he does show composure, he slated him for chipping the GK. So essentially cos Darwin did not do what and how King Owen said it should be, it proves he is not a good striker? Literally loves the smell of his own farts, that geezer. What a fraud and a grade A waffler!

And on the Fowler v Owen situation, Owen recently was asked did he think he was better than Fowler and he said something like, "Who did the manager pick all the time? " Seriously, the guy literally thinks he was world class and a better player and finisher overall than Fowler was. There's a reason LFC fans do NOT use the word "Legend" when addressing this fraud.

8.) 02 Mar 2024 09:05:37
Owen is just out for himself, always has been. he left in the last few days of the transfer window . for 8 mill [i think] we got no chance to replace him. glad we won the champs league without him. then he expected us to stump nearly double to buy him back . the United bit just sums him up.

9.) 02 Mar 2024 09:11:47
I think it depends on how you look at it Oli. I don't see it as a backhanded compliment at all. He seemed to acknowledge that it was a difficult piece of skill and that most strikers would just place it either side if the keeper. That's all really.

10.) 02 Mar 2024 09:21:38
JK23 I'm not 100% on this but I once saw an interview with Neil Ruddock who said that Robbie got called God by his team mates as he can do no wrong in the eyes of the fans.

11.) 02 Mar 2024 10:38:06
Not looking to big Owen up but he did win the B'alloon D'or when he was playing for Liverpool which is no mean feat. I think I am right in saying he is the only player to win the award while a Liverpool player. Kevin Keegan did win but then he was playing for Hamburg.
As I say not suggesting he should be considered a legend. But he must have been doing something right with Liverpool.

12.) 02 Mar 2024 10:49:00
Interesting stat. I have just checked the list of B'alloon D'or winners and yes we have one winner, the same as Blackpool and Inter Miami.

13.) 02 Mar 2024 11:41:30
Cheers Baz.

14.) 02 Mar 2024 12:50:41
Dracred, thing is that on another day I would have no prob with it esp. since the GK essentially making Darwin's mind up for him by coming out to meet him and essentially daring him to chip it over him, a 6 foot 4 inch GK, I heard. Darwin didn't blink, showed composure (that same thing Owen always criticised him for) and embarrased the GK.

Keep in mind that a lot of people gave Darwin credit even tho, they thought it was an audacious chip and Im fine with that. My prob is that it was Owen who came out of nowhere talking crap about how cos Darwin chipped the GK, "proves" (his words) that he has to adapt his game and blah, blah, blah. That's unnecessary, IMO. Nobody cares what other strikers would have done and most importantly, Darwin is prolly not interested in being like any other striker, let alone Owen who mind you, missed shed loads of chances like Darwin does. That's all, really.

15.) 02 Mar 2024 13:14:51
Owen always gets slated by Liverpool fans when he’s discussed, I reckon the United thing absolutely bothers us more than we let on.
Take away all the feelings about how he $hit on the club more than once though, he was a very good player when he broke through, for us and England (I feel the fact he was quite good for England and scoring important goals inflated his ego and his stock amongst football fans everywhere)
His real asset seemed to be his explosive pace and confidence, I’d say he was a good finisher as well to be totally fair, not world class by any means but he was certainly good considering how quick he was usually going, his finishing was appropriate for how he played if that makes sense. You don’t see many players come through at that age and have such an impact and that’s credit to him I suppose.
However injuries soon caught up with him and that effected his pace and then his confidence, pace being such an important part of his game was soon gone and his overall ability wasn’t good enough to adapt, that finishing ability wasn’t quite good enough to compensate either.
I feel he really was something special in his very early days, but injuries robbed him of a truly special career, but I suppose when you rely so heavily on your hamstrings for that pace your never going to make 10-15 years in the game unscathed.

16.) 02 Mar 2024 14:54:56
Ah c'mon lads, i know we all hate him but what a fantastic kid to come through. Shared the golden boot on his first season at the age of 17/ 18.Would be Mbappe money to buy him now. One in two was very respectable back then and a B'allon D'or winner so let's not fool ourselves he was a bad player because we don't like him. He was our main forward AND Englands for years. Ed001 i think it was compared his finishing with Nunez, sorry but i know who i'd rather a big chance fall to and its not Darwin. Also played in the most defensive counter attacking set up Lfc teams in history.

17.) 02 Mar 2024 14:56:32
I disagree Mikey, Rafa joined Everton who for me are more of a rival than United as I know far more everton fans than I do united. But I still love the man. Owen ran his contract down but carried on saying even after he left that he was willing to sign a new one. As I said my big problem with him was he seemed to value his international career more than playing for Liverpool, wasn't as good as Robbie but still seemed to be first pick then practically begged to come back a year after he messed us around. I think he scored 1 goal for United which was after about an hour of injury time and if I remember rightly his options were them or Stoke so I can't blame him for choosing them. Good player yes but not in my top 10 liverpool strikers.

18.) 02 Mar 2024 15:30:01
McManaman leaving the way he did was just wrong he lost a lot of respect from a lot of people for that. But judging by his performances for BT and TNT it is quite clear the guy is a duck egg. Hard to believe Fowler is such good friends with him they seem like total opposites.

19.) 03 Mar 2024 00:17:32
Owen had the potential to be very, very good indeed but never quite made it, as he seem to focus on the financial side of things. Never met the bloke so can’t really comment but, watching him interviewed and being an ‘expert summariser’ I don’t think he has a likeable personality.

20.) 03 Mar 2024 12:23:33
Think he had 40 England goals by the age of 26?if i remember correctly. the injury at Newcastle killed him, after he had make a very good return to English football by the way. Doubt even think the likes of Kane, Linekar or Rooney (three of Englands best of the last 40 years) had that amount of International goals by that age so to say he didn't quite make it seems mental to me, Michael Owen would be thought of by anyone in the game as a top top player. Harder to impress this site though i know?.

A lot of that is down to his own injury issues, he always seems to get a good run of form and then breaks down with an injury and then has to work his way back into the team and that’s how it should be for everyone.
Let’s hope injuries are behind him and he continues to play like this for the second half of the season.

Appreciate the reply ed002 mate, just read some rumours Madrid might be open to letting him go and with our interest last year that he might become an option again.
