Hi ed. Any truth in the aguero link? Best player we been links with this summer. Some people doubt whether liverpool are title challengers. Aguero has played against us. He knows we are. Sturridge aguero front line seems perfect but in the middle of front three I think he'd smash it too.

Superred91

{Ed001's Note - no.}

1.) 31 Jul 2017 10:49:55
Costa would be a better option.

2.) 31 Jul 2017 14:06:51
Jesus, aguero is unpopular? Why?

3.) 31 Jul 2017 14:18:45
Cos he's not joining Liverpool. Pretty simple.

4.) 31 Jul 2017 14:37:28
Liken the purchase of Aguero with the fact it would be the equivalent of giving a woman needing a knee transplant a set of DDs instead . looks great up top but not quite what's needed.

5.) 31 Jul 2017 15:06:31
Lol, fair play jcw! I think someone to knock in all the chances we create would be great. Personally I'd rather have a fully fit sturridge but is that just wishful thinking?

6.) 31 Jul 2017 15:42:01
I would love Aguero to join. But that isn't going to happen.

7.) 31 Jul 2017 15:57:09
It got dislikes because it's very unlikely to happen and goes against what the eds are saying we will look to do with any business we have remaining.

I'm sure we'd all love to have Aguero in our team, every club would, it's just not happening though.

8.) 31 Jul 2017 22:18:54
I agree superred, id love to see aguerooooooooo (say that in the style of Martin Tyler lol) in an LFC shirt but id prefer to plug the leaky back line first prior to adding to an already very well equipped attacking force.

9.) 01 Aug 2017 04:21:52
If PC leaves and we get a windfall which I don't want to happen, would we consider trying for Aubameyang or even Bale? Pulisic or Dembele have potential but unproven. PL rivals will not sell their top players to us, so we will be limited to European options. A left field thought, what about Sanchez? He did'nt want to come the first time but we will be cashed up and in the CL, would Arsenal except 40m and 1.00.

30 Jul 2017 20:07:06
Hi eds, reading that the ox could be off to Stoke. (For some reason that seems like a good fit) have we ceased any interest in him now? If so do you know why? Would rather we made sure to keep Can than splash out for the ox. Would like to have both, I think he would bring something different to the party. Speed and strength.

Superred91

{Ed002's Note - I have never understood the interest - he is HG which I guess helps. Stoke are in a good place financially and can buy players like that. If Chelsea were keen it would be to convert to a wing back.}

1.) 30 Jul 2017 20:29:30
Unless they strengthen, I'd be worried for Stoke. Arnotovic was part of half of their goals and they let him go. Not easy to replace.

2.) 30 Jul 2017 20:31:08
I've never understood the interest in Ox either, baffling.

3.) 30 Jul 2017 20:54:11
And the other half EP, Johnny Walters.

4.) 30 Jul 2017 22:01:31
Always assumed Ox would be wing back if he came.

5.) 31 Jul 2017 06:17:28
Versatile home grown and a very decent player on his day. I think he would add depth to our squad and provide cover to several positions where his pace and power would be a real asset.

No brainer for me!

{Ed001's Note - yep, I agree, you would need to have no brain to think he was worth buying when he is only 'decent'. You buy players to better what you have, not to fill a slot on the bench so you don't have to give youth players a chance.}

6.) 31 Jul 2017 16:36:30
Ox is a poor player and would not make our bench, Beddoe. We have better players in our reserves than him and does not make us better in any way, not even in squad depth. Typical Arsenal player which is why they are getting nowhere fast under AW.

27 Jul 2017 01:09:06
Hi eds. Looks although the field is open if want to sign Dalbert (or so papers say) any chance of us going for him now we've signed Robertson. I've been a Robertson supporter during build up to his signing but also feel Dalbert would be a better target.

Superred91

{Ed002's Note - Inter is the club they have been in discussions with.}

25 Jul 2017 20:38:49
Ho ed. Do you know anything about the talks jurgen had with coutinio? And have Barcelona really had talks with coutinio?
Sorry for all the questions, is Can going to go?

Superred91

{Ed002's Note - (a) No. (b) There have been a number of discussions with his agent and Neymar has been talking to the, () Maybe.}

1.) 25 Jul 2017 20:52:09
Don't see Neymar talking as news.

2.) 25 Jul 2017 21:17:31
Id sell coutinio for 50 million. id keep coutinho though.

3.) 25 Jul 2017 20:46:29
Sorry if this is a stupid question ed002, but could that be seen as Barcelona tapping up coutihno.

{Ed002's Note - No, it is Coutinho who has orchestrated this.}

4.) 25 Jul 2017 21:06:15
Cheers ed. Worrying times for the reds. Say they do leave ( think can is going to go ) do you expect klopp to look at players other than kieta and van dyke
Am I the only one ( and juventus ) who can see Can's potential? He is strong, he has a good football mind. He can pass the ball, win the ball. Stop our midfield getting bullied. And score screamers from outside the box and dynamic over head goal to secure our fourth place finish. The guy has got it all. We should do the right thing and offer him a big old contract. He deserves it. He listens ho instructions well too. Can play the part asked of him.
I know you get asked all the time ed but I haven't seen anything about possible signings. Do you know of any players we are interested in? Cheers la.

{Ed002's Note - It is what it is - players are transient - if the go others will likely arrive or youngsters will be given a shot.}

5.) 25 Jul 2017 21:19:05
Genuine question Ed, not a trying to get out of what we've done wrong moment.

Would the club have to go r permission for Barcelona to talk to the agent?

Seems pretty non-sensical that they could be scoping out packages for the player etc.

Almost a fait accompli by the time club gets involved.

{Ed002's Note - There is a word or two missing, byt Barcelona are talking with Liverpool. If they want to talk with the player, then they need the pwermission of the club.}

6.) 26 Jul 2017 08:01:21
Wobsworth why bother mate?
Who cares about spelling and spell check changes.

7.) 26 Jul 2017 03:32:42
We used to give our youngsters mote chances eh. Thanks ed. Owen fowler mcmanaman the list goes on.

Cheers for the reply.

8.) 26 Jul 2017 10:26:40
Super, that was 20 years ago. Football has changed a lot since then.

9.) 26 Jul 2017 13:40:23
Thanks ed002.

When coutinio goes we are going to need to buy a striker. Then we will see if klopp can pick a player. I personally think his signings have been pretty good. Matip and Robertson for £8.000.000 is great business. That defence is crying out for VVD to come in and take charge.

Unfortunately Danny Sturridge looks like he has lost a second or two. A fantastic player who has been so unlucky with injuries. Goes in the record with Jamie redknapp. Firmino can't play three games a week all year and solanke is a hot prospect but perhaps too young to hold the line by himself. Coutinio is our biggest goal scorer and hos goals will have to be replaced. We will have a hell of a lot of cash to find our new striker.

Liverpool have always been great at finding goal scorers. Forwards. I grew up with Ian rush and then robbie fowler and Owen and torres, suarez. Now we have firmino who is more of a Dalglish then a rush and I think next summer we will sign VVD, Keita and a striker. Maybe a GK too.

Superred91

1.) 03 Oct 2017 14:57:02
So you replace a playmaker with a striker! And what happens to our system I. E THE PRESS?

2.) 03 Oct 2017 16:57:08
Superred, I normally like your posts BUT I literally stopped reading after the first line saying when Cou leaves, we need to buy a striker.

As for Klopp being able to spot a player, he is quite good at it BUT the jury is still out on some of his players.

03 Oct 2017 14:11:26
Sorry ed02, I missed the post that defined our defence and goal keeper.

Could you please post the team so far? I have looked but can't find a definite answer.

Superred91

{Ed002's Note - it is on the later banter pages - three or four.}

1.) 03 Oct 2017 14:57:25
Cheers ed02, I'll have a look now.

23 Sep 2017 13:33:14
Thinking about our league cup exit and the question I'm asking is; would I rather my team was in the milk cup or would I rather they had an extra two, three days on the training pitch a fortnight. When a team has lots of games in a season (4 tournaments) they don't have nearly as much time to train. I'm gutted for the kids but I'm not going to miss 3 games a week.

Superred91

1.) 23 Sep 2017 14:03:33
This club has won 44 major trophies and that includes league cups and FA cups. Stop making excuses. The whole point of expanding the squad in the summer was to compete in 4 competitions. Now that is gone league cup becomes Mickey Mouse cup lol. It is the same trophy you boast every hour in favor of the manager for taking us into the final.

If someone give you this trophy for free, would you not take it? It is not like we are certain to win the PL title at the expense of league cup!

If you are not gutted with the exit then I feel terribly sad for you!

2.) 23 Sep 2017 14:04:50
I'm kind of torn. It could have been a very good way for some of the young/ fringe players to shine a little - or at least get some needed game time at the top. But then again, there's really not anything to do about it and whilst it is slightly disappointing it is no way near the end of the world - and as you say, the extra time on the training pitch as a small bonus that we'll have to take.

I would have prefered a few extra runs in the cup though.

3.) 23 Sep 2017 14:28:39
What a stupid thought when we are in desperate need of trophies. Why not then just give up our CL spot to a team that has a chance of winning it so that our players can have an extra few days of rest as well this early in the season!

4.) 23 Sep 2017 14:29:00
I disagree. Players should be able to play 3 games a week quite comfortably. I mean, it's only 270 minutes a week!
Successful teams of old would compete on all fronts playing 60 games plus a season, and having nowhere near the squad sizes of today. The games used to be far more physical and the pitches far worse. Running around on a muddy pitch is far more energy sapping than anything they do today. All players managed it then.

5.) 23 Sep 2017 14:45:47
Will we also be relieved if we go out of the CL.

6.) 23 Sep 2017 14:59:09
Of course I'm making excuses but the extra training time is a bonus. Thing is mushroom it's not just the three 90 minute games. You have two days recovery from a game so if you're playing 3 matches a week that only really gives you one day where players have full training. I think tactically we are all over the place and people keep shouting that we are making the same mistakes but if the boys aren't training how can they fix it?

Wcd, in 2005 no one would've said liverpool have a chance in the cl but we won it. I can't agree that we are in it just to make up the numbers, we are in it so we can win it.

7.) 23 Sep 2017 15:01:45
Yet Liverpool fans like to relate to a treble under GH where the league cup was one of them.

8.) 23 Sep 2017 15:05:46
A footballers body is primed to perform at the highest possible level for 90 minutes. That's why when games go into extra time you see players on the ground struggling with cramp.

9.) 23 Sep 2017 15:14:32
Superred, why do you need 2 days rest after a game? Have you considered that all the 'tactical' training is part of the reason they're making so many errors? The players are maybe thinking "now, what was it the manager told me to do in this position compared to that? " Is it possible the players are getting confused with too many tactics?

10.) 23 Sep 2017 15:17:48
Im going to wash myself I agree with Harry's post completely.

Sad times. lol.

11.) 23 Sep 2017 15:18:13
Yes Stop making Excuses. That's what I said above.
So you ain't playing FA cup either?

12.) 23 Sep 2017 17:22:07
Sure just get them to play the middle game without pressing and focus on tika taka to keep up the stamina. No problem at all. 😝.

13.) 23 Sep 2017 19:51:32
I want to win every game but make no mistake, I prefer to win today and lose in the league cup all day long.

14.) 24 Sep 2017 07:35:29
The only good thing about that exit is it might mean less chopping and changing of the team, the other side to that though is that some players, like Ward might get little if any game time. In his case the positives he brings can easily be erased by that lack of matches.

19 Sep 2017 13:22:17
I've just read that dom solanke and Joe gomez have been nominated for the European "Golden boy" award! It's a 25 man short list. Fantastic achievement for the lad's.

Superred91

1.) 19 Sep 2017 13:24:46
That's very impressive.
Congrats to both!

2.) 19 Sep 2017 14:02:41
And Ed025 thinks Valencia is better than Gomez 😉 damn these peaky bluenoses and their MOTD fever.

Joking aside, i reckon we have 2 future starters there. Add in Woodburn and Arnold and it makes for some exciting times ahead.

3.) 19 Sep 2017 14:18:21
Yeah looks good mk. Robertson and keita are pretty fresh too.

4.) 19 Sep 2017 14:54:29
And Lovren, Klavan and Mignolet too. oh wait wrong thread haha!
This is the positive one 😂.

5.) 19 Sep 2017 15:57:52
Surprised at Joe Gomez making that list. I'm delighted but surprised. Wouldn't of thought he has played enough. Solanke makes sense due to what he did at the U20 for England.

6.) 19 Sep 2017 17:14:28
Congrats to our boys and another feather in the cap for LFC.

16 Sep 2017 23:47:15
Fabianski has been great for Swansea ghe last two years, I think he would be great for us. Has he ever played for a big club? I'm thinking arsenal? I think he's earned a shot at ucl again.

Superred91

1.) 17 Sep 2017 00:48:37
Great shot stopper in a team where he gets constantly bombarded, but lacks the concentration levels needed to play for a top team where you may have to wait until the 80th minute to make your first save or just be alert 2 or 3 times a game.

He was also so dodgy on crosses that the Arsenal fans rather unlovingly nicknamed him Flappyhandski 🙄

Having said all that though, with our defence so inconsistent, our goal at times can be peppered by shots so maybe he'd be a good fit with his great shot stopping 😂

In all seriousness though, it is the Mignolet effect. Keepers always look good at lesser clubs because they have to make more saves. Mignolet looked great on the highlight reels for Sunderland for that exact reason, but look how that turned out!

If we are going to sign a keeper from another Premier League Club, realistically I'd have to pick either Butland or Begovic. They have the aptitude to be top team goal keepers. I like De Gea, Lloris, Courtois and Pickford but with who they play for they are impossibilities. Personally i don't know why Ward and Karius aren't getting more chances. Mignolet has proven he isn't good enough so it makes no sense to keep giving him chance after chance.

2.) 17 Sep 2017 01:26:06
He was at Arsenal and made mistakes. Sometimes it's easier to stay error free and look good as a goalie if you're in a 'weaker' team that's under pressure and are consequently involved in the game more, instead of not having any saves to make for 20 minutes at a time and have to be sharp all of a sudden when a shot comes in.

Dunno if it's that's the case for Fabianski or if he's genuinely improved.

3.) 17 Sep 2017 03:02:06
He is a good shot stopper, that's it. So is Migs. Swansea is the perfect fit for Fabianski while Migs should be at West Brom or Stoke. LFC should either be grooming Karius and Ward for the long term future or looking at the likes of Oblak if Klopp does not have patience to wait for Karius/ Ward to come good.

4.) 17 Sep 2017 07:17:54
Fraser Forster?

{Ed001's Note - god no, even the Saints fans do not rate him. He is a terrible keeper.}

5.) 17 Sep 2017 07:32:01
What would I take on a good Sunday morning? A coffee or MK's post? Obviously the later one! Flappianski lol! ROFL MK 😂😂😂.

6.) 17 Sep 2017 08:15:25
Pickford looked good at Sunderland too as he was always bombarded and making saves for fun. He's already had 3 goals conceded against him due to his own errors. Like MK said, it's the Migs effect. Fabianski has made mistakes as well at Swansea BUT he keeps playing cos well, they think he's the best they have got. Migs is NOT the best we have as we have two other goalies who are more talented than he is in the areas where Klopp wants his GK's to excel so why we keep playing him when he is crap overall, only Klopp can tell you that as he has messed up this GK thing completely.

7.) 17 Sep 2017 09:01:40
Fraser Forster? Dude we may as well bring Dudek and David James out of retirement!

I wouldn't be surprised if liverpool pulled a strange one out of the hat this evening in terms of a cb. Not getting vvd but we will in the end. January or next year. Unless he goes to arsenal or chelsea which wouldn't totally surprise me. I think 4 cbs, with one being quite young and another not proving that great, we are a little thin there. An injury and a suspension and we are in trouble. I reckon we'll grab someone on a year loan perhaps or someone old but good ish. To fill the numbers.

We've signed some very good players this year and I've thought all summer that keeping pipco could be our biggest success. It looks like it's happening. Let's forget about any possible disruption to the squad and remember how good the lad is and feel pleased he will be on our team this season.

Some people have a funny definition of disaster! Jeez, the team we have have qualified for ucl and got 2nd in league (dunno if we're still there) we have kept clean sheets this season and defended well except for watford game. If we keep coutinio then we really don't need lemar. We have bought really well this summer. Our team is geared up to attack and that is where we have reinforced. Vvd would be great and until it's over (tw) it's not over. We will be fine Without him but stronger with. If I had to choose between vvd or coutinio I would choose pc and if we're not going to break for Barcelona then why should Southampton break for us.

But sahko wouldn't be picked anyway. It's 26mil or we have a player (whose wages we are paying) who is not going to get a game no matter what. I keep saying it "7 clean sheets in last 9 premiership matches" that is not a team that can't defend. We will be fine as we are, and stronger with vvd. Sahko is irrelevant. That said I think he is a decent cb.

Robertson is the one who's final ball is not quite good enough yet, not moreno. Of course Robertson is a klopp signing. He sat dodn with moreno and told the lad he was buying a lb in the summer. Robertson first thought is to cross the ball whereas moreno tries to look for a pass. It is next to pointless whipping in cross after cross as we are hardly an Ariel threat. I think this is why robbo hasn't played much yet. Klopp is still training him. And moreno has been pretty good.

That's such a tough question! Any answer is going to seem like I'm dis honouring Bobby who it is impossible not to love if you're a lfc fan. There must be someone out there who would improve us at CF. Who we could sign. It's not only goals that firmino brings and I think we looked awful against Newcastle without him. (Sorry sturridge, love ya bro) suarez is a good shout. Sanchez maybe.
