Rumours this morning that we're going to try to sign Pascal Gross from Brighton for £15m in January. Is there any truth to it, Eds?

From the times I've seen him, he's not someone who particularly stood out.

{Ed001's Note - he is the key to their attack when he plays mate, fantastic delivery and creates enormous amounts of chances but I have heard of no interest from us.}

1.) 12 Dec 2018 14:50:52
Thanks Ed001. I guess I wasn't really paying much attention to him when I've seen Brighton. It sounds like someone that would be useful in the squad by your description of him. But if he's as crucial as you say to their attacking play, I doubt they'd be able to replace him for the figure quoted. Just passing on what I'd read.

2.) 12 Dec 2018 17:17:32
Stalwart of my Fantasy team last season that guy. Seemed a bit slow in positioning for our system maybe?

20 Nov 2018 18:28:01
I've just read that Klopp is considering recalling Ben Woodburn from his loan at Sheffield United as he's not getting enough game time. If he did, would you expect he'd go out on another loan or be part of the squad here?

1.) 20 Nov 2018 21:17:23
I can't see him being part of the squad here personally mate, as much as I'd like to see it, I just can't see it.

2.) 20 Nov 2018 22:25:34
Not sure what’s happened to Woodburn. He seemed destined for the first team at one point but now I could see is moving him on.

3.) 21 Nov 2018 07:45:57
Was reading somewhere, and I'm not sure if this was the Sheffield manager saying this or a media type - but basically they were saying that ben has to earn hos spot and he has to learn he won't be played jist for being ben Woodburn. Also said that team had been doing well without him, and he hasn't exactly been tearing up trees on the training pitch. Maybe it just hasn't clicked for him there or maybe he needs to pull his socks up?

4.) 21 Nov 2018 11:00:40
He’s only just turned 19, let’s not write him off already.

5.) 21 Nov 2018 10:56:49
Can’t understand the logic, if he’s getting recalled due to lack of playing time at a team at a lower level than Liverpool why would anyone expect him to come back into/ around the first team. He’s obviously not getting a game for a reason.

{Ed002's Note - I don't think he will get much if any playing time at Liverpool, but it doesn't mean he is not good enough where he is. Perhaps the style or formation they are playing don't suit him. Perhaps he has not settled well. Plenty of things could be causing this issuette.}

6.) 21 Nov 2018 13:09:39
Agreed Ed2, I rate the lad and at that age he has plenty of time to impress, perhaps he's just got unlucky with this loan, I'd like to see him go elsewhere to see how he gets on because we have to be honest, the lad has a lot of quality but Liverpool quality? Not yet. We don't want him sat here doing bugger all which is how it'd be, I hope to see him go elsewhere on loan for now.

7.) 21 Nov 2018 19:34:39
That would be my preference too, Salah. He was a regular in the Wales squad before his time at Sheffield Utd, but he's now not getting picked due to his lack of playing time. I hope he gets another loan and preferably not Southampton. Maybe Leeds (if he could get game time), Villa or Swansea.

{Ed002's Note - He can't go to Southampton.}

8.) 21 Nov 2018 20:43:06
I agree EpicPotato, Leeds would be a really good option I think.

9.) 23 Nov 2018 22:10:52
Not slaying the lad just meant he’s not playing at Sheffield Utd so can’t see him coming back and getting in when players like Solanke and Origi aren’t having a sniff and I think he’s behind them in this current point in time he has potential And I think he’ll have a very good career but unfortunately I think it will be away from Anfield (hope he proves me wrong)

15 Nov 2018 09:03:52
Fulham interested in signing Matip in January from what I've been reading.

1.) 15 Nov 2018 10:41:53
I automatically thought of that post ed001 made recently when a team bought a player for meat.
Matip for a pack of bacon anyone?

2.) 15 Nov 2018 12:58:49
Makes sense for Fulham. But I don't know if we will let him go. We don’t have Klavan anymore, and unless we bring someone in I don’t see us letting our fourth choice CB go.

3.) 15 Nov 2018 13:44:42
Those were my thoughts exactly Klopping. I suppose it depends on how much we could sell him for, and if we could get in someone who was an upgrade and happy to be 4th choice CB for the same or less.

I don't know what his wages are, but I'd imagine them being higher than normal for his quality, considering we signed him on a free transfer.

4.) 15 Nov 2018 13:54:03
27 Years old and for a Fulham team desperate for defenders could see us get a tidy sum for Matip. Would be interesting to see who we would get for 4th choice. Maybe Nat Phillips?

5.) 15 Nov 2018 16:55:13
Swap for sessagnon and it's a deal.

6.) 15 Nov 2018 18:41:34
Walkon, you don't run a car dealership anywhere do you? Cos I'd like to swap a 14 year old MG for a new Merc.

Joking aside, I don't want to be down on our own players, but it doesn't make much sense that Fulham would want Matip. They need a solid defender and leader at the back. Matip isn't really that player, he's arguably better with the ball than without it.

7.) 15 Nov 2018 19:21:51
Something Red, but he's a lot better than the defenders they currently have and also possibly available due to how little game time he gets currently. I can see why they'd be interested. If he started his career there the same way he started his Liverpool career, he'd be a revelation for their defence.

I remembered when he first played, a lot of people on here were praising him like crazy.

8.) 15 Nov 2018 20:23:33
Could happen if the stories about the kid tobido are true maybe?

9.) 16 Nov 2018 00:13:51
Sessegnon hasn’t looked ready this season, he’s best to stay at Fulham where he gets premier league game time.

10.) 18 Nov 2018 01:58:51
I'd happily play Nat Phillips as fourth choice over Matip.

Matip doesn't look confident at all and is too slow for PL and the high line style we play. He's also on something like £70k/ week if I remember well. Not a bad option to sell. I actually used to like Klavan better. Just my opinion.

10 Nov 2018 15:36:47
Nice want to sign Simon Mignolet in January. Any truth to this? And if it happens, are there any ideas about what we'd do in regards to a no. 2?

1.) 11 Nov 2018 16:26:47
Great question, who's even available as a number 2? Reina moved to Milan in the summer, but he might have been a shout.

Anyone know how Grabara is progressing?

2.) 11 Nov 2018 17:03:30
It would be a Nice deal for Migs.

3.) 11 Nov 2018 20:06:48
Surely Tom Heaton should be worth a shout. It depends if he's searching for first team football though. Surely you'd be more proud being backup for Alisson, than backup to Joe Hart, haha.

4.) 12 Nov 2018 05:44:09
I like Heaton but I don't think he'd suit our style. A fantastic shotstopper a couple of seasons ago, but can he come in for when Alisson's out and play a high line and sweep up?

5.) 12 Nov 2018 13:46:54
I don't agree with signing a new number 2 in January, nor handing the No. 2 slot to one of two 19 year olds (Kelleher and Grabara) . Best option is to stay with Mignolet until the summer, and find a serious No. 2. He may want out now, the coaching staff may want him out, and a lot of of the fans want him out also, but the potential downside is huge if Alisson is unable to play due to injury or illness.

6.) 12 Nov 2018 17:06:38
Buffon! Butland! Navas!

7.) 12 Nov 2018 23:42:23
Nice legs shame about the face.

8.) 12 Nov 2018 23:43:28
Ra is correct, people don't take number 2's as serious as they should until we're in sh*t street then suddenly it matters. God forbid Alisson got injured then we have to pile all the pressure on one of the youngsters who clearly aren't ready? nah that's not good for them nor is it good for the club. I agree, keep Migs until summer and then look at getting somebody who is capable to come in when needed.

If Kelleher and Grabara make it with us which let's be honest, it's a big if then we're looking at a few years down the line imo (they have plenty of time to impress) . Alisson is here long term, what chance do they have really?

9.) 13 Nov 2018 21:35:39
We have our man James Milner to put in a shift in goal if need be!

14 Sep 2018 20:13:29
Liverpool have signed Holland Youth International Ki-Jana Hoever from Ajax. The deal was agreed to sign him earlier in the summer but he just got international clearance yesterday to play for Liverpool competitively.

He's a right back that can also play in the centre of defense. He apparently comes with a big reputation in Holland.

1.) 15 Sep 2018 06:25:57
Welcome to Liverpool lad!

2.) 15 Sep 2018 15:11:40
With him, Neco Williams and Arroyo we've somee serious talent coming through in that position.

3.) 24 Sep 2018 22:38:04
He is a centre back . Straight from the horses mouth.

Milner, Hendo and Gini in midfield. I was really hoping Keita would start, but he's on the bench, as is Shaqiri.

Apart from that, no surprises. Matip stays in defence but I thought he did well last match. Napoli will be a different challenge for him I'm sure.

Come on Red Men.

05 Dec 2018 18:50:01
I hope Klopp knows what he's doing here.

Origi, Sturridge, Shaqiri, Moreno and Matip start.

Firmino and Salah on the bench.

Keita starts in midfield ahead of Gini.

Come on Red Men.

1.) 05 Dec 2018 18:55:29
I thought there would be changes but this is a bit of a gamble for me.

2.) 05 Dec 2018 19:02:11
Is Lovren injured guys? Did I miss something.

Tho we need to rotate a lot during December, and with the next two game really hard this one comes in time so we can rotate like this.

3.) 05 Dec 2018 19:04:43
Damn right Den82. I nearly spat out my tea when I saw the lineup. I just hope it pays off. I'm happy Keita is finally getting a start, Moreno playing has been forced on Klopp, and I'm guessing he doesn't want to bring Milner out of midfield.

I just think starting Origi and Sturridge together and having none of our usual front 3 is a massive gamble. Hopefully one of them can give us a moment of brilliance or two, and we can keep it tight at the back - but having both Moreno and Matip in the back four can definitely be exploited if their attackers can show some form.

4.) 05 Dec 2018 19:06:39
@martolfc. Yes, Lovren suffered a clash of heads in training. Trent is on the bench though, so he could have played Gomez in the middle (who looks like he'll be a right back) .

5.) 05 Dec 2018 19:09:25
Matip worries me.

6.) 05 Dec 2018 19:11:52
I definitely would've stuck with Gomez in the middle and Trent on the right. We need a relatively settled defence to cope with the other changes, and indeed to cope with Moreno!

7.) 05 Dec 2018 19:16:08
I am shocked at the amount of changes. Yes, they are all experienced players but it takes some guts or stupidity to re write the starting front 3 before a must win (for the league to not get away from us) game away from home.

In Klopp we trust just Jeez he does put you through some emotions. Wow.

{Ed025's Note - it can only be one of 2 things BG, an absolute masterstroke...or an unmitigated disaster mate..

8.) 05 Dec 2018 19:19:45
Great management if we win.

{Ed025's Note - biggest faux pas in history if you dont..

9.) 05 Dec 2018 19:26:38
I've got a bad feeling about this team. Come on Reds!

10.) 05 Dec 2018 19:26:38
I've got a bad feeling about this team. Come on Reds!

11.) 05 Dec 2018 19:27:48
Burnley are making 5 changes themselves. All across the league the lineups are looking a bit different, so it’s not just us. It’s a test of our strength in depth and I was happier with our squad at the start of the season than I’ve been for ages, so I suppose that means I should be confident.
Go on then, I’ll stick my neck out, 3-1 to us!

12.) 05 Dec 2018 19:30:14
Off course it's a gamble but I guess the players need a break. It will be a busy few weeks so Klopp has looked at the opposition and put a team out he hopes can get a result. Again, and I hate to mention it but it shows the plethora of talent City have at their disposal when we have to rely on Matip and Moreno etc. I'm just hoping we can get any type of victory.

13.) 05 Dec 2018 19:36:12
Burnley 0:3 LFC

Matip not a bad shout for heading away long balls- and fingers crossed Burnley’s front 2 don’t develop some sudden pace between them.
Could actually play 3 with Milner and Moreno wide, stop those diagonals coming in
Hendo and Naby with Shaqiri in front behind Origi and Studge

Sturridge - Origi.

14.) 05 Dec 2018 19:41:23
Struck me too AggerDo, wouldn’t be a bad shout against Burnley but a change to an unfamiliar formation could make the changes in personnel even more of a risk.

15.) 05 Dec 2018 19:43:45
The problem is, he needs to win by 2 goals just to make it acceptable. Theory there being a close 1-0 or 2-1 and he’s got lucky. A win by 2 and it’s fair and average for 2nd playing 1 from bottom. For it to be a masterstroke he needs a 3 goal win minimum. That’s the fickle nature of the fandom/ media of today’s game, the question is. does a team without your starting wingbacks and starting front 3 in a system that relies on your wingbacks and interchanging front 3 have the goals or experience to get you that win.

I’ll let you know in a couple of hours. I hope so.

16.) 05 Dec 2018 19:50:51
thought the same Agger, but it has made me nervous, we can't afford to drop points and give City too much of a lead .

17.) 05 Dec 2018 20:15:35
now Gomez now being taken off on a stretcher, looks a bad ankle injury, that's a major worry .

18.) 05 Dec 2018 20:45:57
Shown massive disrespect to Burnley with the team klopp has played! We’ve be toothless up front and thank Jaysus Burnley where off side for that goal as it was a great finish!

19.) 05 Dec 2018 21:05:20
not a good night for Liverpool, great night for City, were getting beat and ha, we just scored .

20.) 05 Dec 2018 21:39:46
@ChefMattD I really hope you but a bet on your 3-1 prediction. Well played bro :)

21.) 05 Dec 2018 21:41:11
It paid off in the end.

22.) 05 Dec 2018 22:02:44
Haha, I’m not a betting man mate. All the credit goes to my pet octopus, Paul.

{Ed025's Note - is it a poorly octopus matt?...if so you owe him sick squid.. :)

23.) 05 Dec 2018 22:22:17
So it was a genius masterstroke in the end.

24.) 05 Dec 2018 22:25:23
I think that was Keitas best game since the first one. Delighted to get through with the win also.

25.) 05 Dec 2018 22:43:03
He’s currently out with 7 torn hamstrings Ed. pfyshio is having a nightmare.

26.) 05 Dec 2018 23:13:19
Great result tonight.
Just watching the Wolves - Chelsea game : sign that lad Morgan Gibbs-White up. Performance reminded me of Gerrard tonight.

27.) 05 Dec 2018 23:23:14
YIKES! the negative energy from some on this thread is a sight to behold. Good thing the team did not give up before a ball was kicked like many on here did. Also, the players who came into the team today, did us proud IMO, and hopefully, they can take some credit from this game.

Bottom line is that you have to rotate the team in this period and like it or not, you're going to have to trust the manager and the team he picked. Pep made changed to his lineup vs Watford and it nearly cost him. Here, we were the better team from minute one till the end with Keita bossing it and Matip defending high balls and bullying the rugby strikers Wood and Barnes. Hopefully he can kick on from here.

Also, massive props to Origi, Moreno, Milner and in fact, every player that played today cos they all had a hand in this precious victory even THO, the ref spotted Burnley one goal cos Wood was offside when the ball came to him first off the first header.

28.) 06 Dec 2018 10:52:17
How refreshing to read the confidence so many Liverpool supporters have in our manager and our playing squad. Here’s a tip - why not wait until the match is over before criticising the team selection and performance? Jeez!

29.) 06 Dec 2018 13:07:23
Yeah, us supporters shouldn't be entitled to our opinions. Down with fan enjoyment or interest.

I think the thread was fair and balanced. A lot of people shocked at the managers decisions but general consensus was let's wait and see. Clearly now (after result) it was a masterstroke to rest key players, well done Klopp.

As for those saying that people should keep their opinions to themselves until after the match, I don't think they have grasped the concept of the discussion forum that they are on.

30.) 06 Dec 2018 19:40:51
Sorry BUT I disagree, Beckers. This is about whether you trust the manager to do the right thing and make the right decisions and based on the comments on this thread (if you bothered to read them) people had thrown in the towel before a ball was kicked. You simply can't pick your best team every time and that is a fact so why moan about it when changes are made as if people did not know it would happen during the loaded festive period? Klopp and the staff probably already planned to pick this team before the Everton game. That is my issue here.

What were we expecting? That Klopp not make changes? Or that we did not know he would make the changes? Even Burnley made FIVE changes so what is all the fuss about?

Our boys (changes notwithstanding) were the better team from start to finish and their goal was OFFSIDE (first shot on target for them in the game) and we came back in the game, never panicked and finished them off. Job done. People are free to post whatever they want BUT should not be mad when others disagree and respond accordingly.

22 Sep 2018 14:13:34
Shaqiri starts. Milner drops to the bench. It'll be interesting to see Shaq play a full game.

1.) 22 Sep 2018 14:19:06
Attacking enough lineup for everyone?

2.) 22 Sep 2018 15:28:40
Very attacking, not even playing well and 2 up. Happy days.

3.) 22 Sep 2018 15:55:10
Fair play to klopp starting Shaqiri in midfield. I didn’t see it coming but it made real sense knowing that Southampton would try to hold back and stifle us. that’s why he’s managing us tho and I’m not lol. Shaqiri playing well in that position 👍👍👍.

4.) 22 Sep 2018 16:04:27
Shaq subbed at HT. Strange, thought he did well and he hardly needs a rest.

5.) 22 Sep 2018 16:11:05
Agreed. Why take him off at half time? He set up two goals and did nothing wrong!

6.) 22 Sep 2018 16:59:32
Perhaps he plans on playing him on Wednesday.

7.) 22 Sep 2018 17:35:53
Plenty of our team have played 2 games in a row and more, surely blood the players in now for the long season ahead, strange one to me.

8.) 22 Sep 2018 17:40:15
Definitely he was thinking of Wednesday with fabinho and Keita will probably start.

9.) 22 Sep 2018 17:49:43
Wasn't medical asvice? I've read somewhere it was slight injury.

{Ed0333's Note - Not according to Klopp post match interview.

10.) 22 Sep 2018 17:50:48
One would assume he's planning to rest the regular front three in midweek and will probably rely on Shaq for creativity in that game.

11.) 22 Sep 2018 18:13:06
Also, klopp took him off while he was playing well. Gave shaq a sniff and has left him wanting more. Left the fans wanting more. The substitution didn't result on us losing our foothold in the game. Maybe klopp thinks shaq needs to up his fitness a bit too.

We won, more of our new players involved. It's all good.

12.) 22 Sep 2018 18:47:10
I think we'll definitely see him on Wednesday. What a peach of a free kick that was that lead to Salah's goal. Absolute magic strike.

13.) 22 Sep 2018 20:04:39
Shaqiri coming off was definitely tactical, Southampton were getting so much room down our left hand side first half and some of their delivery into the box was very good. The game was over by half time and the only way Southampton were getting back into it was if we did something silly. Milner is far better defensively than Shaqiri.

01 Sep 2018 11:53:54
Henderson starts. Naby Keita dropped to the bench.

21 Aug 2018 14:25:44
If PAOK beat Benfica over the two legs in the CL qualifiers, would Liverpool still go into Pot 2, or did that ship sail when Benfica beat Fenerbahce?

1.) 21 Aug 2018 14:50:16
I think benfica actually have to be in the group stages so they have to go through for liverpool to be bumped to pot 3.

2.) 21 Aug 2018 15:26:58
+1 for Wolverine.

3.) 21 Aug 2018 18:58:13
Why is this an issue for people? Did you not see the way we played against the top teams in Europe last season? I'm pretty confident in saying that a lot of teams will be worried about getting us in the groups.

4.) 21 Aug 2018 16:41:29
Thanks Wolverine. I'll be a PAOK fan for a week or two then :)

I always like reading a Firminosteeth rumours, but unless it's pretty much nailed on, everywhere in the media, it's normally just a load of dribble.

@Lerchy/ Zeddicus. He'd also be very pricey as Bournemouth would want to make a profit on what they paid for him and he didn't sign for them on the cheap. I think they paid between £20m-£25m, so if anyone was to come in for him, he'd be in the £50m bracket, which is way more than we'd pay simply to add squad depth.

Hi Carra,

I posted it a couple of days ago and Ed001 said that whilst he rated the player, there'd been no interest from Liverpool.

I posted it without very much knowledge of the player and he'd never really caught my eye, but maybe I was just watching Brighton in games where Hughton had decided not to play him.

Thanks Ed001. I guess I wasn't really paying much attention to him when I've seen Brighton. It sounds like someone that would be useful in the squad by your description of him. - Something Red -. Napoli didn't come and try to ruin the football match. They came to try to win it, which is why our midfield were able to contribute to the attack. Don't expect the same from Jose's United. I really think it's going to take a couple of moments of magic to create a really good quality chance. I hope I'm wrong and like many here, really cannot stand them, and even more so under the manager I've always disliked for all of his spells in English football. I just have a feeling that even though his squad is complete carp, he'll still find a way to make it difficult.

I can actually see it being frustratingly 0-0 until Klopp plays his subs. I can see him going for a workmanlike midfield of Milner, Hendo and Gini and have a lot of possession but creating very few chances. I think the introduction of Shaqiri and Keita will make the difference and we'll get a 1-0 or 2-0.

I'm expecting a difficult and frustrating game, with lots and lots of anti-football.
