I don't wanna jinx things but how well has karius been doing lately, if he keeps up these performances we won't need to spend big on a keeper. What do ye think fellow reds.

wobsborth

1.) 03 Mar 2018 19:42:19
I thought he was excellent today, that save at the end of the first half was top quality, if that goes in it’s a different game. The sign of a good goalkeeper is not having to do anything for 40 minutes and then coming up with a big save.

2.) 03 Mar 2018 19:42:31
He’s been really good and another top drawer save today, make no bones about it. If De Gea had made that the press would be taking about it for weeks. He’s on the up. In my opinion he’s turned a corner and it looks like it’s all clicked into place.

3.) 03 Mar 2018 19:46:01
His save today was absolutely top draw.

4.) 03 Mar 2018 19:50:31
I was just thinking that.

I'm pretty sure we still need a top quality keeper but jeez, if he keeps his form until the end of the season he won't harm his chances at all!

5.) 03 Mar 2018 19:59:26
I actually agree. He may nnot t be too draw (at the moment) but he is a darn sight better than we’ve recently had. Defence seems more confident which is great

Give him time I reckon.

6.) 03 Mar 2018 20:02:06
Top class save and another faultless game. its a big if but if he keeps playing like that i wouldn't be spending big money on a new goalie. Sell Mignolet and let Ward be back up.

7.) 03 Mar 2018 20:37:11
He seems to have lost that nervousness from his game. No messing about on the ball. Just needed a run in the team. Shame we had to put up with mignolet for so long this season.

8.) 03 Mar 2018 21:49:28
More playing time as given him confidence and also having VVD there will make him feel more secure that's a fact.

9.) 03 Mar 2018 21:51:37
Ignore the save, yes it was top drawer but look at his communication today off the ball, far far better and THAT is what instills confidence in your back 4.

10.) 03 Mar 2018 22:00:06
Have to be honest Jcw bloody hard to ignore the save. That was a decent hit heading for the top corner. But you’re right, he did all the basics well and the most difficult thing he nailed.

11.) 03 Mar 2018 22:20:14
This is the 1st time he's had a decent run. The lads 24. Very young for a keeper. He has the attributes to be top class. His 1st time kicking under pressure was very good. Came and claimed a few balls, very impressive, especially the one Lascelles pushed lovren into him. The obvious save. Has also shown recently he stands up strong in one on ones. and seems to be working well with the defence now. They don't put themselves under pressure as much now with stupid short kicks into the corner etc.

12.) 04 Mar 2018 01:56:42
Just remember how well mignolet was playing at the end of last season and then look at him the start of this? Be careful what you wish for, we need a new keeper asap!

13.) 04 Mar 2018 08:54:43
Mignolet has rarley played this well, i'd actually say NEVER. people need to get a grip, Mignolet has always cost us big big time, and if they think not making mistakes for 5 games last season makes up for 5 years of incompetence then maybe football is not the sport for them.

14.) 04 Mar 2018 11:00:46
If Karius continues with the same form then we don't need to spend anything. Let Mignolet go, keep Karius and Ward (if he's as good as people say - I've seen him play only a couple of times) and bring in a senior keeper as backup.

15.) 04 Mar 2018 11:05:44
These are the same fans that gave him 6 games last season and clamoured for calamity back. Lol.

16.) 04 Mar 2018 11:06:15
In fairness to karius this is his first proper run of games since he was bought, long maybe it last could yet prove to be shrewd business by klopp.

17.) 04 Mar 2018 11:54:31
I think if Karius keeps this up, then there’s no need to bring another top keeper. We could stick with Ward as 2 and Karius as 1. Then bring in an older very experienced keeper as a number three, maybe like Ben Foster or Reina? (NOT Navas though) .

18.) 04 Mar 2018 18:21:58
He did have a good game and it was a top drawer save. He he is so so better than Migs and the back four look better for it. However, a small criticism, he really needs to work on his long ball distribution.

19.) 04 Mar 2018 22:36:02
Playing really well! And I'd love for him and Ward to battle it out as our 2 keepers if Karius keeps performing.

Thing is he WILL make a mistake at some point, like all keepers do, and when that happens I hope the fans and the media don't rip him apart. and I hope he can rise above it and not have his confidence shattered like last time.

20.) 04 Mar 2018 23:08:06
Klopp's publicly given Karius his backing on more than one occasion. So to all those wetting their knickers at the prospect of a hugely expensive goalkeeper being signed in the summer : don't go holding your breath guys.

21.) 05 Mar 2018 09:33:16
He is young for a keeper and is doing well - he has had a rough time of it for us from over the top criticisms from pundits to pressure and abuse from our own fans, the lad has had a very tough introduction to the club. That he has come back, performed to a good standard and contributed to a much more settled back line is testament to the lad. At the very least he is earning the chance to make the position his own - how he does, in more high pressure games toward the end of the season, may determine what business we conduct in the summer.

22.) 05 Mar 2018 12:59:44
Eds, if Karius keeps up the form until the end of the season and we decide to keep him and sell Migs, do you think Ward would settle for no. 2 slot to someone the same age?

{Ed001's Note - no, that is not what Ward wants, nor would I think it is a good idea to have a young keeper willing to sit on the bench.}

23.) 05 Mar 2018 18:32:06
i hope his form continues but we still need a world class keeper, you all telling me if we buy alisson becker your not sure who would be number 1. if we want to be challenging for the title against that city side there can be no doubt about being world class because come the summer city will get stronger so we have to as well. and 18 points is a massive gap to close so if there is any position in the team that can be improved we need do it. look at pep bought bravo was not good enough so replaced next season now look at the difference this season.

24.) 06 Mar 2018 18:49:47
I would sell migs and let ward go for a minimal fee with a buy back clause down the line if he turns out to be a great keeper. Then go pick up another top keeper to challenge karius and push for the number 1 spot.

{Ed002's Note - It is not as easy as you think to get a "buy back" clause.}

Reports suggesting we are in with a bid of 52m for James.

wobsborth

1.) 07 Jun 2017 10:26:11
I don't belive it. But if so it would mean a farewell to Coutinho I assume. ATM I'd rather keep Phil and see him drive from that new 8 role.

2.) 07 Jun 2017 10:27:14
haha, good one. No mate. False.

3.) 07 Jun 2017 10:42:39
Good few papers going with it so its probably as reliable as a glass hammer, would be a good signing tho and keep coutihno too.

4.) 07 Jun 2017 10:57:49
He's too slow, often poor work ethic with occasional motd moment.

5.) 07 Jun 2017 13:39:32
James was only average when he played in goal for us. He'd be even worse now, he must be 50 at least!

6.) 07 Jun 2017 13:55:37
I would still trust Migs over James ;)

7.) 07 Jun 2017 14:01:26
James is a poor player. Doesn't track back, work hard off the ball, doesn't press and has a poor attitude, everything Klopp (and ZZ) despises in a player. No Thanks!

8.) 07 Jun 2017 15:50:17
He might have kopped on a bit and got his head in tune with his body.

He was one of the biggest disappointments I can remember.

He was absolute class at Watford. But his bottle must have went after signing for us.

Chris Kirkland was another example.

9.) 07 Jun 2017 16:44:30
Don't forget Scott Carson also, Dermot, although the Wally with the Brolly may have had more to do with his crisis of confidence!

Kirkland was more unlucky with injuries, to be fair. When he played, I remember him playing well.

16 Aug 2015 11:52:06
Hi Eds, just wondering is it likely that we send Origi on loan as it appears ings is next choice behind benteke. pity really because he showed some promise in pre season
Thanks

wobsborth

{Ed001's Note - it is under consideration yes.}

13 Jun 2015 11:24:56
Hey Eds, just wondering have Liverpool showed any interest in Hernandes as it looks like van gaal doesn't rate him and could be a cheap yet reliable signing

Cheers

wobsborth

{Ed001's Note - no.}

22 Mar 2015 10:29:46
Hi Eds, fellow Reds, just wondering has Balotelli burned all bridges with Rodgers as he looks like he has been dropped altogether, I thought he was doing ok up til that penalty incident, he doesn't help himself with some of his posts on ig and twitter tbh

wobsborth

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool will look to sell Balotelli in the summer but they need to reduce the price they are asking by some way. A number of clubs were approached in January but none were interested in a permanent deal at the price being asked. I suspect his representatives will focus on a return to Italy although have said how happy he is at Liverpool. Last year a sponsor tried to place him with another side once Milan were pissed at him and wanted him out - but that would no longer be an option. An alternative may be a Turkish side. We'll see what happens.}

1.) 23 Mar 2015 06:26:11
Balotelli yesterday was a total disgrace, and maybe he's worst minutes in the liverpool colors. He was almost worse then our Captain Fantastic.

Great great result tonight

2 glaring things that stood out for me today,

1: we now have numerous marquee players, with another one or two additions we look very very strong. Big well done to klopp for this considering how we looked when he took over

2: we cannot afford to lose emre can on a free, he is class and still young, offer him whatever he wants to get him to stay.

wobsborth

1.) 23 Aug 2017 22:56:32
Totally agree I really like can future captain german beast we should chant his name loud as ever too let him know he is seriously appreciated fans can play a big part plus a fat wad of dosh.

2.) 23 Aug 2017 23:22:38
I have a feeling that Can are playing his heat out to earn himself a shiny top contract with our club. I really hope he'll achieve what he deserves!

3.) 24 Aug 2017 00:53:08
We need to sign him up.

4.) 24 Aug 2017 02:27:01
He's been offered a contract, he wants guarantees he'll be starting. We can't do that.

5.) 24 Aug 2017 03:12:09
But if we get Keita, do we need him, and is it good for his career to stay with us?

15 Jul 2017 19:48:54
I would be quite happy with van dijk and keita, we will have an abundance if talent to choose from, taa will challenge clyne and milner / Robertson will cover lb. I'm very optimistic for the season coming, up front we can have a weekly selection from mane sturridge firmino coutihno salah lallana origi ings and solanke so I think ings will be sold along with sturridge . Grujic has the potential to be outstanding I just hope he gets games in an already tight midfield. No need for anymore signings sorry if that's boring etc but if we get the 3 targets we are linked with that would be great.

wobsborth

10 Jun 2017 22:46:12
I can't wait until the preseason kicks in, IMO we need to give grujic, ejaria, ojo and Alexander Arnold a lot of playing time. These lads are quality especially ejaria would be a shame to let them slip away just so we can buy someone new.

wobsborth

1.) 11 Jun 2017 09:40:59
Agreed. Ojo and Woodburn also. We need a big squad so signing a few top quality players should be the aim with all these lads coming in the add depth.

03 Jun 2017 21:36:46
Vvd would be a great signing if we can do it, him and matip could be the partnership we need and lovren as backup.

I also agree that ox is bad business as I think grujic should be given a chance to play MF next season along with Can Hendo Wini Lucas and Milner so for me he is not needed.

As for wingers I would be happy with the addition of salah as an extra option and he is obviously talented.

Up front the young lad solanke will be going to the u23 I assume so I think we will be on the lookout for a starting striker, all seems quiet on luan and I never saw him play so I'm not too sure on that, maybe coutihno and firmino will offer advice as to how good he is.

In summary I'd be happy with:
Vvd
Salah
Mendy
Starting Striker.

wobsborth

1.) 03 Jun 2017 22:39:25
He's gone to City £60m 200k p/ w.

2.) 03 Jun 2017 22:42:58
Van Dijk is going to City. They'll pay the fee and not mess him around on the wages. We ballsed it up again with our dithering messing the player around. We are suspect at centre half and anyone thinking differently is deluding themselves as Matip aside we lack any quality. Knowing us we'll go and waste money on one of Gibson/ Keane/ Maguire who are woeful.

3.) 03 Jun 2017 22:54:02
I'd be gutted if we didn't replace Clyne tbh.

4.) 03 Jun 2017 23:08:39
You don't win titles with a weak spine. We have a weak spine.

5.) 03 Jun 2017 23:24:38
Now go get mendy, perieria and salah.

Job done for next season.

6.) 03 Jun 2017 23:33:19
£60m and £200k a week. we just can't compete with that. It's quite worrying that everyone around us seemingly can.

7.) 03 Jun 2017 23:42:41
Van Dijk is 100% not worth £60m and £200k a week, rather us move on at that price. Would get Koulibaly for half that. Probably get Varane for less. Far too overpriced. Not even the best cb in the prem.

8.) 03 Jun 2017 23:45:56
Two full backs and a winger will put right last seasons failings Supermane? We can't have been watching the same team at all.

9.) 03 Jun 2017 23:50:33
Sorry frankly, we weren't looking at a CB until his agent threw him at us with these wage demands. Can you not see a mercenary when you see one? Would you prefee that Edwards bent over and paid what is basically a random fee for a player in a position we weren't looking at and isn't worth that much anyway?

10.) 04 Jun 2017 00:06:45
Frankly, you echo my thoughts on our defensive situation as you've probably read on here.

11.) 04 Jun 2017 00:26:24
Mendy is probably going to Man City as well while we have made no efforts seemingly to move for Perreira.

28 May 2017 10:43:10
Just saw pics of ronaldinho training with Barcelona last week, can't understand why no one made a move to bring him to england even still, the shirt sales alone would be worth it and wouldn't be a bad impact sub to have.

wobsborth

1.) 28 May 2017 11:12:16
Clubs don't get money from shirt sales unless it's in the official club store.

2.) 28 May 2017 11:39:43
Man Utd nearly signed him before Barca.

3.) 28 May 2017 11:53:31
Too right Imred, people harp on about Pogba's shirt sales paying for his own transfer but in United's 2015 annual report they only made £30m from shirt and merchandise sales. So they would have to triple their shirt and merchandise income in one year on just Pogba shirt sales alone, pretty unlikely if you ask me.

4.) 28 May 2017 12:16:08
Pretty sure I recall the Venkys promising to bring him to Ewood Park. Instead they have brought third tier football 😳.

5.) 28 May 2017 14:39:50
Tbf at the point it would have been a relatively cheap option. look at his career after Milan and you see less and less appearances with a smaller return. He basically stopped caring about being the worlds best or fell out of love with the game, either way football wasn't his top priorities. If he couldn't affect those leagues and his lack of fitness would have made him essentially useless in the BPL which is far faster than any league he'd ever played in.

{Ed002's Note - Clubs don't get the money from shirt sales and MU tried very hard to bring him to England.}

6.) 28 May 2017 15:06:51
That's interesting tbf eds thanks! Can't imagine he'd a worked out at united but will never know!

7.) 28 May 2017 16:13:25
The idea that shirt sales can make up for transfers has been debunked royally as a fantasy, not based in any fact nor reality.

8.) 28 May 2017 17:20:52
Thanks ed002 I always thought they get a percentage for shirt sales, I just thought if he could be got on a free he would be worth a shot for a year, he's still capable of unlocking a stubborn defence.

{Ed002's Note - They get the retailers cut if they sell them themselves.}

For me grujic is more of a goal threat than our other cm at the moment, he has shown great attacking position in the few minutes he's played so far, very promising player just hope he gets a consistent run of games to prove it.

I have to disagree about ings, he has spent most of his time with us injured and when he is fit he's not the level of quality we need. I know people will say he's a good back up but the answer is he's not good enough, we need someone quality to rotate with firmino, mane and salah. Same can be said for lallana.

Karius should be given the chance, MIGs is a good shot stopper but he is unreliable under high balls etc. That attempted punch and then catch last night is a perfect example of that and it spreads fear through the team.
