Here's one to distract from the coutinho saga. I was having a discussion with the lads at work and we were deciding on an all time premiership 11. As none of us wished to put Gary Neville at rb we were stuck on a replacement. I can't think of many great rbs of the premiership era, we discussed Lauren of the Arsenal invincibles, zabaleta, rob jones, Ivanovic, lee Dixon and arbeloa. I'd be interested to hear any thoughts and suggestions and also if any of the Eds wished to weigh in feel free.
In case anyone is interested

GK Schmeichel
CB T. Adams
CB Stamm
LB A. Cole
RM Ronaldo
CM Scholes/ Gerrard
CM Viera/ Makelele
LW Bale
ST Shearer
ST Henry

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

neville desailly terry cole
makele/ keane
gerrard viera
ronaldo surez henry.

2.) 08 Aug 2017 22:07:34
Love him or loathe him G Nev was one of the best RB the prem has seen so I would swallow the pride there . Coleman would be a decent alternative though.

I also wouldn't have bale in the team, Suarez, giggs, hazard. I'd put all these before him to name a few.

3.) 08 Aug 2017 22:12:05
GK Schmeichel
RB Finnan
CB Terry
CB Stam
LB A. Cole
RM Ronaldo
CM Gerrard
CM Viera
LW Bale
ST Shearer/ Henry
ST Fowler/ Suarez.

{Ed025's Note - finnan????...your having a giraffe mate..

4.) 08 Aug 2017 22:17:06
In a 4-3-3:

5.) 08 Aug 2017 22:21:33
Marcus Babbel for right back 👍.

{Ed025's Note - come on was a serious question..

6.) 08 Aug 2017 22:24:27
Denis Irwin.

7.) 08 Aug 2017 22:35:34
Probably Zabaleta.

Also have none of you people heard of Ryan Giggs, or is it just anti-united bias?

8.) 08 Aug 2017 22:38:15
Dani Alves ohh yeah sorry pep fooled ya ;-)

9.) 08 Aug 2017 22:52:17
Seriously no one has Lampard in the team?

Gnev hyppia sol Campbell cole
Gerrard. Scholes. Lampard
Ronaldo. Henry

10.) 08 Aug 2017 23:24:12
Right back. errrrr rob Jones? By far the best right back the prem has ever seen.

11.) 09 Aug 2017 15:22:42
Something Red, how is it United bias half of mine and my other peoples teams are filled with United players. If it makes you feel better Fergie would probably be the manager of an all time Prem team as well.

12.) 09 Aug 2017 15:21:55
I'm ashamed of you all that it took until Mr Elf's intervention for anyone to mention Rob Jones! Had injury not cruelly curtailed his career, Gary Nev would've have had as many England Football Team caps as his sister Tracey!

Oh, and God has to be in the team too. The most natural finisher this fair land has ever seen. Playing a 4-3-3 with him, Henry and Suarez (or Ronaldo or Bale) would kill most defences.

Banter please eds.
Assuming the hysteria about Keita is true and he signs what sort of player is he and what will he bring to the team? I've never seen him play so I'd be interested in both eds and other posters views on him.
Thanks in advance.

1.) 14 Jul 2017 21:36:47
He is a very accomplished midfielder. he can play anywhere in the midfield attacking or defensively can pass he can score goals he can tackle and can turn defense into attack! Very excited about this one really hope we pull it off 👍.

2.) 14 Jul 2017 21:32:59
If he is to sign, I will put the price tag out of my mind and get behind him.

He is just a younger and more direct version of Lallana from what I've seen. Tricky on the ball, scores and creates a fair share, presses all over the pitch and loves running at people. He is just a much quicker thinker than Lallana though which will be beneficial. I do like him, I'm just not sure it is needed or value for money. I guess that is not my headache though, so I will just be happy that Klopp looks likely to get a primary target, who is definitely a very good player, even if the world class tag is a bit premature.

I know YouTube isn't great but check him out on there, may give you an idea.

4.) 14 Jul 2017 23:15:04
Thanks for the replies fellas. I looked on YouTube but how much can you tell from that (if I had a highlights reel on there it would show the belter I scored with the left peg for my school team when I was 14 and miss out the many many howlers that I've had since! ) As always I'll get behind the lad IF he signs but the price seems high and firmino aside whenever we sign players that others deem too overpriced it rarely ends well. Fingers crossed though.
Cheers for the replies.

5.) 15 Jul 2017 02:07:11
Nothin like lallana at all, still trying to make light of this talented footballer mk.

20 Sep 2016 23:36:21
Hi eds, I've often seen you guys mention scouts reports on players and wondering if you know what they made if karius before signing him? Having never seen him play I'm interested in his strengths and weaknesses and what he'll offer that migs doesn't?

{Ed001's Note - the only thing I can remember being told about him is, to quote as closely as I can remember, that he would fix the problems we had being caused by Mignolet.

In my opinion, I believe that referred to the lack of confidence on crosses and his kicking.}

1.) 21 Sep 2016 07:23:34
like nearly all goalkeepers he opts to punch instead of catching the ball, which for a man of his size should be easy, when did punching become more popular than catching? it baffles me, having said that he is so confident with the ball at his feet and is not shy in coming off his line.

2.) 21 Sep 2016 08:16:22
In many respects I agree Kenny, because when keepers miss punches they look ridiculous. It's easier to catch than punch. I think it's technique and too many keepers want to punch it 30 yards. It's not necessary, just punch it away from danger.
Anyone who saw Boro's goal against Everton 😂😂 will know why a lot of keepers prefer to punch the ball.

3.) 21 Sep 2016 16:59:51
As Andreas Kopke (former German No.1 before Olie Kahn) said years ago during his playing days, German keepers are trained more to punch than catch especially when under pressure or if you are not sure. Hence, I have no issues with punching the ball away from danger especially if the keeper isn`t sure he can catch it and the Boro goal is a great example. In fact, punching a ball that he clearly couldn`t catch is how Karius got injured in the first place and no one faulted him for trying to punch a ball coming into the "corridor of uncertainty" as in on the edge of his six yard box.

Sorry lads, the boring performance may be my fault. I rarely get the chance to watch football live and when I do it's usually a poor game. Ed01 can't watch Tottenham games, I can't watch any games!

24 Jun 2015 22:06:09
Ed1 I read that you said that Rodgers didn't want us to sign firmino, any ideas why? The only reason I can see is that he feels we have players in his position already but he clearly improves the team.

{Ed001's Note - no idea sorrry.}

I heard that in order to accommodate both migs and karius they will both be deployed on the goal line making it 2-3-5-4 formation. The future is bright lads.

Why is Shelvey available ed? He had some good performances last season. He's young and seems to work hard. Seems odd.

{Ed001's Note - he lost his place and they are looking for something different.}

Should you have the time and inclination ed I would love to hear your views on the lad if you've seen much of him. No worries if you don't. Thanks

{Ed001's Note - never seen him play sorry.}

Guys seriously? Man U were well organised, they made sure we had no room to attack. They nullified Salah and Firmino and out played us in the midfield. We didn’t dominate them after the mistakes as someone said. Man U didn’t have to chase the game any more so they didn’t. We weren’t threatening them in any way so were happy to sit back. Take the blinkers off lads there’s no shame in losing to to the better team on the day away from home.

We were outplayed in every area of the pitch by a well organised side. Playing Gomez wouldn’t have changed the game at all. TAA made a mistake that led to goal, it happens regardless of how experience a player is. He needs mistakes like this to ingrain it into his brain for next time. Fair play to the lad he had a tough game going up against one of the countries brightest stars. He’d get in my team for the weekend.

Park3Lung - you’re right of course that the table doesn’t lie and 6th - 2nd is an improvement. But what SG said was that if you are not careful then you’ll be on the decline and that you are no where near the level you were at under Fergie, which you’re not. Jose has spent a fortune on players that arguably haven’t drastically improved the side. Matic would be the exception. The wages you guys are paying are ludicrous. The amount of times I heard complaints about the negative football being played by Moyes and Van Gaal and now Jose is doing the same. United v Liverpool games used to be the highlight of the season now we all expect a boring negative game as we know Jose will park the bus. United fans of old would be livid if their team played negative tactics at Old Trafford.

Fernando Morientes sticks out for me, I remember being a kid and being so excited when he signed.
Andy Carrol could be so much more as well. He’s got all the attributes to be a 20 goal a season striker in the right system but for his attitude and lack of effort and subsequently his injury problems.
Dani Pacheco always looked to have a bright future but I think he had attitude problems.
And surprisingly I don’t think anyone has mentioned Ballotelli.
