Morning eds and reds, and what a morning it is - top of the league!

I just wanted to ask a quick question to the eds about Grujic - people have been asking about players like Harry Wilson asking if they have a future at Liverpool and I wanted to ask the same about Marko? By all accounts he's doing very well in Germany, the Hertha manager even went as far as to say he's the best midfielder they've had in the last 20 years (! ), and he plays in a position certain people have described as our weak point. I remember there were some problems with him though in terms of attitude, so was just wondering whether he was being considered for liverpool's future or this loan was more just to get him in the shop window/ out the squad to precede a permanent move away?

Thanks!

LKTIMLK

{Ed002's Note - Grujic has no future with the club and will leave I am afraid.}

1.) 09 Dec 2018 14:45:19
Why sign a new contract then? surely minds can be changed on both sides if he continues his current form.

2.) 09 Dec 2018 15:16:40
So he can earn more money, and Liverpool can sell him rather than go on a free.

3.) 09 Dec 2018 18:08:02
I think grujic and his family felt let down by a lack of game time at Liverpool, that he had been promised by Klopp in an attempt to lure him from Chelsea. He never seemed to be the full package with us ran though I loved him after that header against Barca. Good luck to the lad wherever he ends up!

4.) 09 Dec 2018 19:18:50
I believe grujic was rodgers signing. Klopp never wanted him.

5.) 09 Dec 2018 20:22:07
Wiseryan, Grujic was Klopp's first signing.

6.) 09 Dec 2018 20:56:07
I might be wrong but wasn't Grujic signed by Klopp due, in no small part, to Buvac's high recommendation?

7.) 09 Dec 2018 22:51:42
We were going to sign him before Klopp came in. He could’ve pulled the plug I suppose but after he’d been scouted heavily and pursued for a while it made sense to sign him.

8.) 10 Dec 2018 00:47:19
Its rumoured he wasnt the hardest worker at training and he certainly didn't grasp the opportunities he was given when played or on loan. Its hard to argue that he wasnt given a chance.

9.) 10 Dec 2018 00:39:38
At 22 you're saying he can't improve enough to change Klopps mind (thats even if he was off the mind of selling him in the 1st place) . Obviously with a run of games and with the growing confidence of getting starts he's getting better and better, his current manager certainly seems to think so. At 22 he's far too young to be writing off.

10.) 10 Dec 2018 10:05:39
Grujic was very much a Klopp signing, called him personally to convince him to sign. Definitely an error on Klopp's part, though these things happen in football. I'm sure he'll go on to have a solid career, but I doubt it'll be at Liverpool.

11.) 10 Dec 2018 11:07:18
I watched a bit of Herthas game and he looked good and scored, I think they are unbeaten in 7 with 5 wins in the games he’s played.

Is Moreno injured? I haven't seen anything suggesting he is but he hasn't made the last two match squads if I'm not mistaken? Shame if he is, I thought he was doing really well

Just asking eds, newspaper reports about Fabregas going to Chelsea seem to suggest he was offered to us, amongst other, and we turned him down? If this is true I do find it weird seeing as he's not too dissimilar to Lallana and worth the same amount - surely he's more proven?

LKTIMLK

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of Fabregas being offered to Liverpool. I am aware that during discussions Chelsea were given a price for the player by Barcelona - this was about three weeks ago.}

18 Mar 2014 08:36:36
Hi eds, Just wondering whether you think our recent performances will change the kind of player we are looking at bringing in the summer? For example if, and I know it's massive if, we manage to actually win the damn thing do you think we'd maybe look at more established players a la Diego Costa as we have more pulling power or do you think it'll still be good young players we'll try to turn into stars ourselves?

Cheers

LKTIMLK

{Ed001's Note - I very much doubt they will change the recruitment policy when it is working! It would just mean we are a huge step closer to breaking even and meeting the FFP regulations due to the prize money etc.}

I know there's a chance he'll go today, but if Markovic sticks about would you expect him to be integrated into the squad? Maybe play some cup games and see what he can add? With Kent and Origi going and Lemar not coming in it's not like we're massively stocked on the wing. Interested to hear your opinion EDs, and anyone else's. Cheers.

LKTIMLK

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure he has shown enough to suggest there is any point in doing so. Surely any gametime he would get would be better off being given to someone like Woodburn or Wilson?}

1.) 01 Sep 2017 10:52:49
Is he really that bad? On the few times I saw him play I thought he had a bright future. Maybe his confidence is just shot.

{Ed001's Note - he just does not look good enough for us to me.}

2.) 01 Sep 2017 10:54:54
Got my fingers crossed that any Spanish side will take him today! just a loan will do fine for now.

agree with Ed001, would much rather see Wilson and Woodburn get some games.

3.) 01 Sep 2017 11:12:37
He's an excellent player for a mid table squad who need a dash of explosive pace, but sadly (based largely on his half season at Hull) he's just not got the intelligence to make himself a top player.

4.) 01 Sep 2017 11:32:35
Markovic was one called Serbian Messi lol. I wonder if Messi plays for a midtable team?

05 Apr 2017 13:54:05
One for Ed001 here. I remember near the start of the season someone asked you for your opinion on the best managers about, and you said you didn't rate Conte that highly. Just wondering whether this season has changesd your opinion? Or do you think it's more that Chelsea's squad has always been strong, and it was more getting rid of Mourinho that has got them back to where they should be rather than Conte's management?

LKTIMLK

{Ed001's Note - bit of both. He is an excellent man-manager, which is what the Chelsea squad needed but lacking in tactics. I have seen nothing to change that opinion, just that he is better at what he does well than I thought. They did have a strong squad that had underperformed prior to his arrival but he still did well to get such a quick turn around in fortunes there.

The proof in the pudding of him tactically will be next season, in Europe, which is when he struggled in the past. He is a very good manager, but not a great one.}

1.) 05 Apr 2017 15:07:44
it took him two months to move Kante further forward and Matic back to protect the defense. He should have worked that one out the minute they signed Kante. He does seem to get his players up for the game and players like Moses, Alonso and Cahill are playing the best football of their careers.

Hi eds, banter please.

I was reading a guardian article today talking about Brendan Rodgers's role in both convincing Moussa Dembele to move to Celtic rather than one of the bigger clubs interested in him and then also improving him as a player and I had a couple of questions I wanted to ask Ed001 if that's ok? Basically, Rodgers is meant to have won Dembele over with his vision of how he'd improve him as a player, and he apparently used Sturridge, Suarez and Sterling as examples of attacking players he made into real top tier players. This also made me think Jordan Henderson's dramatic improvement, and also something I'd read about Rodgers improving Gerrard's form when he first came in by realising that he had reduced his head movement whilst playing - I have no idea how this helps, but it was meant to have helped.

This made me think what factors there were in the improvement of these players. For example, Henderson has a reputation as a very hard worker with a huge desire to improve, so his improvement could have always been in the pipeline. Also, a striker is traditionally meant to peak around the age of 26-27, and that;s the age Suarez was coming into when he really exploded for us, so it could've just been a part of his natural improvement - he always looked like he was destined to be truly world-class. However, Sturridge did improve dramatically at still quite a young age when he joined Liverpool land Rodgers, but this could be down to his previous lack of opportunity in his favoured role. So, what I wanted to ask Ed001 is a) whether he thought Rodgers did a good a job of improving players as a coach whilst at Liverpool, despite his short comings as a manager of a full team? and b) Whether Rodgers was liked as a person by the players whilst at Liverpool, seeing as he seems to be getting on with his players well at Celtic?

Sorry for the long winded post, and I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Keep up the good work! - lktimlk.

LKTIMLK

{Ed001's Note - as a coach he is very good. That is why he initially got his shot as a manager. Though, like you say, how much of the improvement was down to him is open to discussion. All of those players were ones who work hard on their game anyway, and are always looking to improve. Having said that, wanting to improve is one thing, you still need someone to guide you into improving the right things.

He was initially very well liked by the players, in many respects he was still very well liked after he was fired. The issue was more one of him losing their respect by claiming the credit for everything good while shifting the blame for everything bad. The final straw of allowing his coaching team to carry the can and be sacked while he continued did not go down well either.}

1.) 06 Dec 2016 23:22:19
Hi .
If Rodegers was responsible for their "so called" improvement under him then he was also responsible for their subsequent loss of form and confidence.

The one thing Brendan is good at is self promotion. And media management.
Houllier was the same claimig he discovered stevie g. Like he found him at tescos.
It shows insecurities in their character which are soon found out .
Every manager is ultimately judged on the quality and cost of the players they sign.
Rodgers and Houllier are a great example of this.

In my opinion that's why Rodgers went to Celtic as he is guaranteed trophies and champs league football.

Houllier went to psg who are far superior in France.
When Houllier tried his hand at Villa in the competitive prem. It wasn't long . before he was found out.
And the same would happen to Rodgers.

Though I hate to say it you have give
Moyes deserves credit for going to Sunderland.
Im sorry for going of topic and slagging people off but the older I get the grumpier I get.

2.) 07 Dec 2016 03:28:31
You have no idea why he went to Celtic, dermot. Give him a bit of credit - he wasnt the worst manager we ever had and no managerial job comes with a guarantee of success. Hope he does well up there.

3.) 07 Dec 2016 14:47:27
Dermot is spot on. BR is a good coach but lacks the humility and work ethic needed to succeeded at the highest level. he always seemed to talk a lot an because he did, he never seemed genuine and sounded more like a BS artist (I live in the U. S and we can spot them a mile away. That`s why he had so many broken promises to players about playing time and other stuff.

Klopp is loved mostly because he is honest and most of the time, tells it like it is. No BS, no tricks, just the hard truths and people can respect that. This explains why BR always blamed the players for his own failures as he is very insecure (like AVB, IMO), worried that they may get found out if they let their guard down by being outwardly honest.

Of all of BR`s flaws, it was the blatant dishonesty ego trips that used to do my head in. Great managers often show toughness and ego but even they, know when they messed up and are not afraid to acknowledge it in public. BR never did that. He would shift blame to the players or his assistants and players and fans can see through that BS as being passing the buck to save your own skin. That to me is what lost him the players, the fans and eventually, his job.

As for going to Celtic, we may never know why he went but you cannot rule out the fact that he went there because it`s easier to win trophies and play CL footie as you only need to play two VERY important games a season as in, the two legged qualifier for the CL group stages.

4.) 07 Dec 2016 16:15:59
I think ultimately Rodgers simply paid for not being able to go all the way and win the title in 2013/ 14. If we had won, then a lot of his misgivings and shortcomings would have simply been glossed over. That's the nature and the difference of how winners and non-winners are perceived by everyone (owners, teams, media and fans alike) . I have not seen a more divisive manager than Mourinho in recent times. Nobody appears to be more devious or Machiavellian than him. And yet, as long as he was winning (and he was winning everywhere he went), people accepted whatever he chose to say and do, and brushed everything under the carpet, while hailing him as the ultimate strategist and motivator. Now that he is no longer a winner as before, the talk has changed and even words such as "his time is gone" and "he's looking for a way out of town" are being voiced. So that's how it goes. I'm not defending Rodgers in any shape or form (I wanted him out too) . Just saying that if he had been able to go all the way, our perception would have been altered. History is most kind to those who win - lesser to those "almost-made-it" types.

5.) 07 Dec 2016 17:12:18
Yes we should give credit where it is due.

BR did a good job with us and almost took us very close. The two things that ultimately decided our fate was:

1. Hendo's red card against MC

2. Gerard slip

If not for these two incidents who knows what would have happened.

One big thing against him was his press conf where he used to gloss and always said some positive shit.

It could be inferred in two ways.

Sometimes honest criticism can help players and improve their perf

Sometime positive backing inspite of poor perf would also help in motivating the players to improve. He used to the 2nd option which did not go well after some time.

Let him achieve some good at Celtic b4 taking up a more challenging assignment.

Good luck to him but he got a super player in MD there.

Cheera.

6.) 07 Dec 2016 17:36:57
Totally agree, Ra. Had BR won the PL that season, his shortcomings would have been forgiven at least for a couple of years. But it was his arrogance that cost us the PL and yet he himself, didn`t see it that way so he never tried to change his approach. He believed in his own hype and kept on being smug, arrogant and passing the buck for his failures and that wore thin and got him sacked. Even for Mou, his pathetic and divisive antics has worn thin and no big club wants him any more, great resume notwithstanding. Frankly, Mou is old news.

7.) 07 Dec 2016 18:20:10
I think it's pretty common knowledge he's a good coach.
Tactical acumen and versatility are different qualities.
He did a good job coaching some players.
He was a victim of his own near success and ego after 2013/ 14.
Had he won it things might have turned out differently.

8.) 07 Dec 2016 20:02:21
I will always be gratefully to Rogers for bringing Coutinho, Firminho, Clyne, Milner, Can, Origi, Sakho and Sturridge to the club. Don't get me wrong, he also brought some poor players as well, but overall I am happy with most of them that he brought.

9.) 07 Dec 2016 18:44:13
Dermot i get your points but he cannot be all bad, despite my loss of faith in him towards the end i still wish him well for the future. None of us are perfect and he deserves a chance at redemption.

10.) 07 Dec 2016 20:42:32
He hated Sahko, didn`t know how to use Firmino (played as a winger), played Can out of position and nearly ruined him, and Origi was playing out wide and so was Ings hence IMO, he gets a C- for transfers as it took Klopp to come in and make these players better, something he couldn`t do yet he signed them. Just setting the record straight.

11.) 07 Dec 2016 21:20:42
Had to laugh at that Hamilton. He's is a BS artist and we in the US can spot one a mile away. Donald Trump anyone? I'm not saying you're wrong but that just made me chuckle!

12.) 08 Dec 2016 14:11:53
Pips, I chuckled to your post myself. Donald Trump IS a BS artists and we did see him coming from a mile off BUT his voters didn`t care and voted him in anyway. Now he is pulling back on all the BS he was selling. We know one when we see one.

15 Jul 2016 23:37:42
I have a question for the Eds if that's cool? Was just wondering whether a football club's media departments during pre-season are made aware of players who do and don't feature in the managements plans, for example if they will be sold etc., in order to focus their efforts on players who will be sticking about for website and/ or social media interviews and features?

Cheers!

LKTIMLK

{Ed001's Note - no.}

1.) 16 Jul 2016 08:08:42
Good question mate. Often wondered that. You always hear of people making assumptions based on pre season shoots etc.

28 Jun 2016 19:06:07
Just wondering what people think Mane's best position is? I hear him referred to as a striker and a winger, and that shows his versatility but how do we see him being used? It'd be nice to hear from anyone, but also the Eds. Keep up the good work!

LKTIMLK

1.) 28 Jun 2016 19:10:37
He's a winger.

2.) 28 Jun 2016 19:23:17
Probably part of the front 3, they seem to rotate roles during games. Just wondering what the front 3 would be? Sturridge/ Origi with Mane and Firmo? How does Couts fit in? Could be Firmo, Couts and Mane with Origi as sub, but what happens to Studge? Of course rotation of subs and players, and factor in injuries we have plenty to chose from, but not sure how happy some will be with that. I think they count on injuries being the biggest concern following the problems we had last season.
I note I have not answered your question at all actually! Lol Probably made your questions grow! Sorry mate.

3.) 28 Jun 2016 19:54:10
Klopp Favours a 4-2-3-1 Varation it seems i'm guessing his Favoured team would Be Below
GK- Karius
LB - Chilwell/ Amavi/ Moreno
CB - Matip
CB - Lovren
RB - Clyne
CM - Can
CM - Henderson
LAM - Couts
CAM - Firmino
RAM/ RW - Mane
ST - Sturrdige/ Origi/ Ings.

{Ed002's Note - Referees are instructed how to spot teams playing three left backs.}

4.) 28 Jun 2016 20:15:46
Mane will likely start on the right side of midfield, replacing Lallana/ Milner as a starter in the squad. He can of course play left wing and behind the striker if required.

5.) 28 Jun 2016 20:20:06
Ed002, I think you may be overestimating the observations of the average ref. Everyone knows they need glasses, so why not use that to our advantage?!

6.) 28 Jun 2016 20:20:56
Also, glad to see you missed the three strikers.

If you missed it, a referee definitely would.

I sense a cunning plan afoot.

I was wondering about this today and then I suddenly remembered that Brewster is meant to/ expecting to be a part of the first team squad when he gets back from injury too - how likely do you think it is that he will get some first team game time this year Ed001? Obviously no one expects him to get into the starting 11, but I'd also be surprised to see him make the match day squad much at all this year too unless we have a good cup run. He decided to ignore interest and stay with us for a reason though surely?

LKTIMLK

{Ed001's Note - it depends on his recovery, too many ifs and buts at the moment. Which is probably why he stayed.}

He hasn't been playing in the pre-season games, which I know doesn't mean much at all but I did find it interesting

{Ed002's Note - Moreno has been suffering a minor injury - this was mentioned in the PR that came with the arrival on tour.

Roma have had a representative in the UK earlier this week and he spoke with three clubs - but not Liverpool.

He then flew to Lyon where he was collected on behalf of Saint-Etienne. I don't know where he is now.}
