Can anyone recommend any decent football journalists? I'm a big fan of Sid Lowe and his coverage of La Liga, but can't find anyone near his standard for the other European leagues (the Premier league in particular) .

1.) 20 May 2019 17:52:53
Tris Burke, Tristan Burke, Ed001, Tris, T. Burke, Ed01, Tris. B, Ed1, T. B and T. Burke. Probably the top 10 right now.

{Ed001's Note - ahhh MKS you made me blush.}

2.) 20 May 2019 18:09:38
Not many good ones about that I am aware of tbh, they all talk crap.

3.) 20 May 2019 21:09:36
I’ve always thought Tim Vickery was a good journalist for South American football.

4.) 20 May 2019 21:30:49
I agree Astral I like TV.

5.) 20 May 2019 22:52:34
Ed001 have you considered a restraining order? There's appreciation of your work and then there is just plain scary obsession.

{Ed001's Note - I am used to it mate. It is part of my everyday life being irresistible.}

6.) 20 May 2019 23:48:00
Adam’s just picked up where Harry left off 😉😱😂.

Hi gang,
I’m one of the lucky ones who got a ticket in the ballot. can anyone enlighten me on when we find out if we’ve got a place on the plane with THOMAS COOK.
Can’t leave it to late. the customer service from TC leaves a lot to be desired.

Hindsight is 20/ 20. Considering the final score its easy to forget how even a game it was. Ultimately they took their chances and we didn't. I see a lot of people criticising Klopp's tactics but if Firmino wasn't fit for the full 90, he wasn't fit. Klopp Adapted and it seemed to be working for large parts of the game. The only mistakes I personally think he made was putting Gomez in at right back and making his substitution's too late. Going for a better defensive option at the Camp Nou isn't a bad idea, but with Gomez coming off an injury and mostly playing centreback this season, I'm not sure he was that. Frustrating game in what could be a frustrating season. Ultimately we need a trophy, but the team has clearly made significant process and that matters. I didn't think we'd be this good last season.

Going to try and enjoy the rest of the season. An Anfield miracle might happen and Manchester City might blink first (Rodgers to win it for liverpool? ) . I'm doubtful but very optimistic for next season. Keita has room to improve and the Ox will be back. Would love to see Brewster and Wilson play a part. Heads up lads. YNWA. (Sorry for the long post) .

1.) 02 May 2019 14:28:51
He is aerobically fit for 90 minutes, so you’re injured or you’re not. I don’t get the ‘not fit for 90 thing’. If it’s muscular 30 minutes or 90, a tare is a tare. He should have started if the injury healed. He is too important.

(Hasn't even been to Burnley once) I've actually been a Burnley fan all my life, up the Clarets! With Ing's pace and Robbie Blake's finishing they should have a chance!

Either way a bit of optimism lads, City have only dropped points to average teams.

1.) 24 Apr 2019 22:40:59
In 2013/ 4 we needed needed 7 points from the last 3 games. It is definitely not over yet!

2.) 24 Apr 2019 22:43:43
Ings plays for Southampton.

3.) 24 Apr 2019 22:52:36
Lerchy, read the post again mate - it’s a joke.

4.) 24 Apr 2019 22:56:07
Dam, think I would have caught that as a Burnley fan. Luckily Sam Vokes is a great backup with good hole up play. Him and Robbie Blake will do wonders.

5.) 24 Apr 2019 23:08:51
Sorry lads, Went right over my head that one!

6.) 24 Apr 2019 23:28:04
dont hold your breath Eamon, we can only hope that City get held to a draw by someone, ha anyone .

7.) 25 Apr 2019 00:04:23
Did anyone really expect united to get a result? I know I didn't. We are a single point behind with 9 to play for. I cannot believe the negativety of some fans. I hope you don't play the lotto if you're this easily disappointed!

19 Feb 2019 02:31:32
A german friend of mine who supports Leverkusen was telling me about how Julian Brandt's move into midfield was finding a lot of success not unlike the Ox's move last year. Got me thinking, any former or current Liverpool players you would think would have done well in a different position?

I'm always curious how defenders like Hansen or Van Dijk would do in a midfield considering their technical quality.

1.) 19 Feb 2019 04:00:54
Id like to see trent at cm, although i doubt that will be this season.

2.) 19 Feb 2019 07:57:26
I'm sure I'll get hammered for this but I actually think Henderson could have a future in defence. Most probably at right back. He's quick, reads the game well, makes powerful runs off the ball, defends well o e on one, and can whip in great balls from wide.

If Trent ever moved into midfield as is expected, I can see Hendo moving back in his place.

3.) 19 Feb 2019 08:04:00
People need to get over this Trent to midfield nonsense. It’s never going to happen. Just spent over 100m on two midfielders, and will replace lallana and Milner with other actual midfielders in the summer.
Everyone who says they want to see him in cm, has never actually watched a game with him in midfield.
The lad is now a right back, and will see his career there.

To the op. I think gerrard could of gone and played in any position, in any team in the world, and put a shift in.

4.) 19 Feb 2019 09:00:18
No chance mk he has no pace, it wouldn't surprise me if this or next could be his last season with us due to fitness concerns and his age

And benny i really don't think trent is a right back myself, he's played his whole youth at cm. I know that's meaningless but i think he would excel at cm once his positioning has come on. I also don't think he would be happy to stay at rb as in many interviews he has stated cm is his position

Have a good day as well lads.

5.) 19 Feb 2019 09:21:16
Lol Trent is 20 years old and already being ruled out for a new position? come on, he has plenty of time to prove he's good enough for CM which I believe he's capable of. I'd understand if he was 27 and people were talking about him moving to midfield but he's 20! give the lad time.

{Ed001's Note - how old was Milner when he moved into central midfield? Most players change position throughout their career.}

6.) 19 Feb 2019 09:22:21
consider Liverpool’s 1977 European Cup Final lineup; Neal played both full back roles in his career, Tommy Smith and Emlyn Hughes started out in midfield and also played across the back four, Callaghan was a right winger and converted to a centre midfielder after knee troubles, Ray Kennedy from target man to left side midfield, Heighway from left winger to a more central role, Keegan from midfield to striker etc etc.
It was always a trait of Liverpool teams, good footballers who were able to adapt.

I like to think that this present set up continues in that vein. Perhaps not to the same wide extent but the front three can interchange, midfielders too, both full backs could probably play as wing backs and, as you say, Trent might eventually evolve into a Wijnaldum-type midfielder. Both Gomez and VVD are quick enough to cover wide positions if absolutely required.
I hope that this theme will continue in the Summer signing/ s, perhaps a full back or two who can also play further forward and a pacey front man like Werner who can be used in the three forward positions.
It adds value to the squad, allows rotation and cuts down on waste.

7.) 19 Feb 2019 09:48:28
Very true Ed, Trent being ruled out at 20 years old is just nonsense talk. He could change position in a year or two and then again in 5 years.

8.) 19 Feb 2019 10:09:22
I can’t see Hendo being a right back sorry, he’s not quick enough especially as in our system our full backs need to be able to get up and down the entire pitch all game. I remember him playing on the right of midfield when he first joined us and he wasn’t particularly good there, midfield is where he is best.

9.) 19 Feb 2019 10:56:36
I actually kissed the screen when he scored that 40 yard screamer to take the hammers to extra time in FA Cup final.

10.) 19 Feb 2019 10:58:08
To the OP, one of the most successful changes of position I can remember is Thierry Henry.

11.) 19 Feb 2019 11:23:03
Jamie carragher was a striker don't forget.

12.) 19 Feb 2019 12:44:56
Tell you what; the day TAA plays cm 3 games in a row, I’ll play the following charity match in my pants.
With the constant pressure managers are under, you think anyone would risk playing him out of position?
Not to mention his international career; with Southgate looking to play walker in the back 3, and trippier being pony, TAA could be the rwb for the next decade.
We aren’t even looking for a right back.

13.) 19 Feb 2019 14:01:12
I must be watching a different Henderson. He doesn't lack pace at all. Klopp apparently wanted to play him at centre back in the FA cup against Wolves, and he played right back against Leicester and ran Gray off the ball every time they faced up 1 vs 1 (who by the way, is no slouch) .

I knew I'd get hammered for it, but I still think we'll see him covering in defence much more often. He's twice as fast as Milner and he has played right/ left back increasingly as he's got older. The main difference is Hendo has the reading of the game and the height to also cover centre back.

14.) 19 Feb 2019 14:03:27
The most obvious recent (and I would say successful) position change is Milner. From a right winger at ManC he has come in and changed his game to one that is based on playing central midfield and doing either the offensive or defensive duties (or both), depending on the team being played and team tactics decided by Klopp. And his ability to adapt and play various positions has been a Godsend for the team, that people do not talk about much, unfortunately.

The only way I would move TAA into midfield is after asking myself (and answering) which player/ position is he better than, and how much better is he? Right now, my answer is that he isn't better than any midfielder playing in our starting team. He's perfect staying where he is.

15.) 19 Feb 2019 17:38:21
I know it’s not the same level by any means but I don’t think many people know that Trent played 10 games for the England u19’s as a right winger and got 7 goals. I’m not saying he’ll end up a winger or a cm or a right back, I just think that the lad is clearly talented enough in multiple positions and that it’s definitely conceivable that he won’t spend his career at right back.

10 Feb 2019 11:43:35
Looking forwards to your match review Ed001 (time permitting) . I can't be the only one who look forwards to them more when we've actually played well haha

If there's one thing yesterdays game highlighted its that Keita, Wijnaldum and Fabinho are our strongest midfield. Especially with Keita finding his feet and Wijnaldum raising his game. Big Shaq has played well this season, but I prefer him as an impact sub.

{Ed001's Note - probably won't get it finished today but I will try.}

I don't think we have any serious interest in him, more effective as a winger then a CAM. I wouldn't be surprised to see Arsenal or Spurs make a move, though probably as a second choice or if their budget is stretched thin from picking up a couple players.

Ed002 said he hadn't heard anything about a Liverpool offer but mentioned him as a possible target on the arsenal page and said "Ryan Fraser (LW) has the advantage of being home grown".

Little Naby, my issue with Eriksen wasn't that he wouldn't play. Its that we couldn't afford him and that in his case Spurs would never sell to a rival, need to be semi realistic when throwing names out, this isn't football manager.

{Ed002's Note - Eriksen will not be moving to Liverpool.}

Havertz or Eriksen? that Messi fella would be pretty solid as well.

Players like Shaqiri are about what Liverpool can bring in as backup's and even then sometimes players are priced out of a move. Clubs don't want to sell and Liverpool don't have the financial means to bring in half the players talked about, nor would those players want to move. These are players who are barely rotated, what's the appeal of becoming a rotation option? even if they get 20-30 odd games.

It was when he responded with the wrong account to himself that the cat was very much out of the bag. But always nice to see a regular haha

I quite like Zielinski, but Ed002 is always saying how difficult Napoli are to deal with. that's assuming the player even still wanted the move.

I don't think Owen was a particularly good finisher but he did have a decent positional sense. He just couldn't get into those positions once he lost his pace and didn't have the skill or passing game to be a significant threat further out. Still had an impressive career despite fading so young. That said as a Liverpool fan I don't personally consider him a 'legend' of the club. I've not booed him at legend games but he's never a player I'm excited to see.

Gibbs-White and Longstaff are still unproven in significantly weaker squads. At that point I'd much rather just play Wilson who can also play centrally while covering the wings. I don't think there's that much between Wilson and Brooks (though they're very different players), Brooks does have a successful year in the PL though. Maddison is clearly the pick of the bunch but Leicester have no reason to sell and would significantly overcharge (look what they're asking for Maguire) .

Personally for me I'd rather we just see if Wilson can make the step up. Barring any surprise bargains on the market e. g. Brandt to Dortmund for £22.1 Million.

Great purchase for Dortmund, perfect Pulisic replacement. Shame though, would have absolutely loved Brandt at Liverpool, the perfect player for what we're looking for. Though as Ed002 pointed out he's likely to get more game time at Dortmund and it allows him to stay close to home.

Not much of an upgrade and at his age I'd rather just give Wilson a chance.

Talented coach, surprised Southhampton got him after hiring so many duds. Should get them back on track next season.
