Harry Wilson left out of the squad for today's friendly and no mention of an injury or other reason for him to miss out.

Is he off somewhere? Hope not!

GeorgeT

1.) 14 Jul 2018 13:48:39
I suspect with Shaqiri coming in he may well go on a loan.

2.) 14 Jul 2018 13:58:13
Think he is better than Kent or Ojo, would much rather we kept him around for the season.

3.) 14 Jul 2018 14:18:30
I’d rather we manage our youngsters properly and have a plan for their development.

4.) 14 Jul 2018 14:44:11
Kloop has confirmed he us going on loan.

5.) 14 Jul 2018 15:21:26
A year on loan at stoke will be solid. They should by all accounts be near the top of the table. If he can start a full season in a high pressured situation will stand him in good stead.

6.) 14 Jul 2018 16:05:15
As long as they warrant a minimum number of games or starts, I'm happy with the loan to Stoke.

04 Jul 2018 13:00:46
Interesting if we do sign Cillissen before off-loading other keepers, hope we don't get stuck being unable to sell Migs and Ward and go into the new season with too many keeps again!

Eds, I'm assuming that players who are surplus to requirements will be aware at this stage? Mignolet for example won't be surprised if Liverpool sign a goalkeeper as he knows he'll be off?

On a side note, Fabinho seems like a good guy in his most recent interview.

GeorgeT

{Ed002's Note - Typically clubs will inform agents in plenty of time if they are not required any longer. Then you will have those who want to leave then there are those where offers arrive.}

1.) 04 Jul 2018 13:54:58
I personally don’t see the point in offloading Mignolet and Ward to bring in Cillessen. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

2.) 04 Jul 2018 14:16:11
Well, Mingolet doesn't want to say if he's not first choice and should absolutely never be first choice again, so that makes sense.

And if Klopp prefers Cillessen to Ward, that's that all explained.

3.) 04 Jul 2018 18:16:02
My point bring that he’s a terrible keeper and worse than Mignolet. Actually worse.

4.) 04 Jul 2018 18:55:19
Cillessen is a much better keeper than Mignolet. I don't think he's definitely better than Karius though.

5.) 04 Jul 2018 19:10:07
FMS what makes your more qualified to decide that than those employed/ tasked to do the job?

6.) 04 Jul 2018 19:23:22
Naby, FMS knows everything about everybody.

7.) 04 Jul 2018 19:58:14
If you’d ever taken the time to watch Cillessen you’d know he’s a poor keeper who has all the faults of Mignolet and more. The worst Dutch number one for years and certainly not the answer to our goalkeeping problems. Mind you I suppose it depends what you’re after, if you want incompetence, a keeper that flaps at crosses, who is physically dominated easily, has no command of his area, has poor kicking ability and hasn’t played any proper football in two years, then Cillessen is your man.

8.) 04 Jul 2018 20:15:58
It's remarkable how you are able to critically assess him despite that fact that he has hardly played for 2 years, you must watch a lot of Copa del Rey football.
It also remarkable that he won the Ajax player of the year twice in a row despite seemingly being a non-league standard goalkeeper.
I'm sure the people at Ajax and Barcelona will be in touch any day now to learn from your infinite knowledge.

9.) 04 Jul 2018 20:53:33
What I saw of him playing for Ajax and Netherlands is a keeper that gets done easily by high balls into the box, that is easily dominated, has zero command of his area, has poor positional sense and has poor distribution. It’s fair to say he’s one of the worst first choice Dutch keepers for a long time. I’m not fussed about him winning club player of the year, Stewart Downing was Villa’s club player of the year when we signed him and he was great wasn’t he? I’m concerned that we are about to fritter away stupid money on another poor keeper who has barely played any football this last year and doesn’t address any of the shortcomings that Mignolet or Karius have. Of course if you’re happy with another poor keeper then I’m delighted for you.

10.) 04 Jul 2018 21:49:43
I don't presume to know anything about Cillessen, what I do know is if the club wants him then I am happy with that. Ajax must have seen enough in him to play him in the first place and Barcelona must have seen enough in him to buy him from Ajax.
I am willing to keep an open mind about any player we are linked with, I don't think I know everything about every player.

11.) 05 Jul 2018 00:30:37
No he doesn’t. He prefer Cillesson to Karius.

27 Mar 2018 15:34:01
So what's going to happen with Sturridge and Origi?

Wouldn't mind keeping one if they were happy to be a backup player. can't imagine either would be worth much money!

GeorgeT

{Ed002's Note - Origi will know is future is away from Liverpool but his season has tailed off rather. Liverpool will look to sell Sturridge but need to be more realistic about the fee.}

1.) 27 Mar 2018 17:03:42
Your last sentence has it spot on George. Time for both to move on IMO.

2.) 27 Mar 2018 17:30:28
I think the only way we get Sturridge out the door is loan next season then his contract is up or we give him a free transfer. as I don't see anyone taking a chance on him with wages and transfer fee.

3.) 27 Mar 2018 17:40:08
Origi might have a couple of suitors because he's young-ish and fit atleast.

Sturridge is incredibly injury prone and will have pretty high wages, I wouldn't be surprised if he was still around next season just because we can't find a new home for him!

We can keep one if they don't mind being nothing more than a squad player.

4.) 27 Mar 2018 18:02:55
I see studge heading to China.

5.) 27 Mar 2018 18:52:20
I agree with Ed. We need to set a lower price for Sturridge because of his injury problems.

6.) 27 Mar 2018 19:14:29
He’s been a good player to the club, who is a terrific talent, doesn’t moan, by all accounts has helped a few players and youngsters settle, a model pro. We should let the lad choose where he wants to go from the offers same as Lucas did and wish him well. Such a shame he had the injury issues or he could of remained at the very top level.

7.) 27 Mar 2018 18:35:23
Would anyone really be that surprised if West Ham bid for Sturridge though.
Origi I do think know what has went wrong, he definitely has the ability to be a very good forward. Back to France maybe and he'll probably bag a hatfull of goals in that league.

8.) 27 Mar 2018 23:34:07
The second half of the season where we got to the final of the Europa, he was looking like the real deal, scored some good and important goals, I hope he gets a chance, but it's going to be one of him ings or solanke for me, and solanke hasn't really had a shot at all.

9.) 28 Mar 2018 07:27:54
I worry that Solanke hasn’t looked at all too impressive, even with his cameos. I hope I’m wrong and I hope the lad gets a good loan next season and stays on. Maybe it’s more a case of him needing to work that little bit harder off the pitch like Harry Kane as opposed to relying on his natural ability.

10.) 28 Mar 2018 10:17:48
Origi would be marketable for teams outside the top 3 leagues, francce or portugal?

Sad about sturridge and all that potential. he's on 120 too apparently and no one will be willing to pay that.

He could also end up pulling a van persie and be injury free next two years and bang the goals in.

11.) 28 Mar 2018 10:36:48
Sturridge is a decent bloke who deserves to be given the opportunity to play elsewhere, but for his injuries he is a fantastic footballer and probably one of the best finishers around at the moment, but our style of play doesn't really suit him and he needs to be at a club that can play to his strengths.

12.) 28 Mar 2018 17:02:07
Sturridge has been long finished we saw the best of him with Suarez and not since. Shame but he has to go too much on the wage bill for a bit part player. Origi I still think has talent but hasn’t progressed enough I would like to see a full season in the prem on loan.

13.) 28 Mar 2018 20:32:01
It amazes me how many fans are so worried bout our wage bill, the club gave him his contract so forget about the wages, they can well afford it,

14.) 29 Mar 2018 00:58:38
Sorry port but glad your not in Finance if that’s your outlook sure let’s pay 100k a week to a bench player so what if we can afford it doesn’t make it good business sense get a grip.

21 Feb 2018 13:30:23
Any truth in the rumours linking us with Mohamed Bahlouli from Lyon?

Seen the same rumours popping up in a few places in the last couple of weeks.

Just a young lad so I'd assume a player for the Under 23s.

GeorgeT

1.) 21 Feb 2018 17:00:17
With a number of players reaching a pivotal age in their careers I believe we will see a drive for young potential to replace those.

2.) 21 Feb 2018 17:01:16
Lad I thought that was ballotelli and crapped myself haha.

3.) 21 Feb 2018 20:43:01
Just thought it would be good to point out that it looks like Mario has finally found a home. He's doing very well over in France by the sounds of it.

23 Nov 2017 13:10:31
Any truth in the rumours that we've enquired about a Jan loan for Draxler?

If so, perhaps as a short term replacement for Coutinho?

GeorgeT

{Ed002's Note - As I have explained previously Draxler is seen as an option. However, there are difficulties with the player right now as he is saying he wants to stay and would like a return to Germany if he leaves. PSG would sell in January and would be open to a loan with a commitment to buy - whether they would be open to just a loan is another matter.}

1.) 23 Nov 2017 13:26:19
Cheers for the reply ed. Would be surprised if he did come in but couldn't be a bad signing

Ta.

2.) 23 Nov 2017 14:35:47
I will be fuming if this happens. Just concentrate on signing some defensive minded players first. Keep adding players like Draxler to the already stacked forward line we have got whilst persisting with the shambles of a defense, and Klopp may well be in charge of the most lopsided and imbalanced LFC squad in history!

3.) 23 Nov 2017 16:14:42
Indian Buzzer, we have Couts leaving mate and we need to replace him. Draxler would be a good move imo. But if he only wants to play in Germany as ed has said then it sounds like a non starter anyway.

4.) 23 Nov 2017 16:42:58
So is it just a loan only we are interested in ed without a commitment to buy? Or not sure at this stage.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea, I explained what I know.}

5.) 23 Nov 2017 17:13:27
Not what we need at all, i understand he's a good player, but we have kieta coming in and that defense needs sorting. the owners should put a ban on signing attacking talent till that table football defense and that subbuteo goalkeeper gets adressed.

07 Dec 2018 17:33:24
Rafa Camacho at Right Back do we think? Obviously TAA will play most but if he needs a rest then I reckon we might try Camacho there, I'm sure he played there in pre season?

GeorgeT

1.) 07 Dec 2018 17:52:50
Fabinho?

2.) 07 Dec 2018 18:08:51
Good shout redfuzz!

3.) 07 Dec 2018 19:01:30
I’d rather Fabinho find his feet in our midfield to be honest. Would be harder for him to adapt if he’s chopping and changing position. Just my opinion though. What do I know.

4.) 07 Dec 2018 19:52:19
No, definitely not Fabinho imo.
Not quick enough, by far.

5.) 07 Dec 2018 20:16:25
Juicer, Fab's original position in his career (till he switched to DM at Monaco a couple of seasons back) was RB and still plays there for Brazil and slow pokes don't play RB for Brazil, mind you. Having said that, I think he should ONLY play RB when truly needed and not part of any rotation with TAA. He should focus on his adaptation to the midfield role with LFC and should only play RB to do a job and nothing more, IMO.

6.) 07 Dec 2018 20:24:33
We have a number of potential rbs. Young trent of course, fab, camancho is a bit inexperienced for the big games we have coming up. Milner can do a job there. Or we could see a back 3 with wing backs. I actually think gini could play rb too.

7.) 07 Dec 2018 21:22:01
Wijnaldum can barely play in his preferred position, let's not stick him at RB, it'd be a disaster. It'd be as daft as putting Firmino in goal.

I agree with you JK on Fabinho.

8.) 08 Dec 2018 00:50:47
I’m sure Milner could play there, reliable at left back and would be more natural there.

08 Nov 2018 11:26:13
Discuss. Will Harry Wilson be a LFC 1st team squad player next season?

I'd like to see him make the step up more than any other player, he could be our little Welsh coutinho! He's the same height as Couts, can play midfield or out wide, and can whack in a free kick too.

There is a lot of competition in the squad at the moment but surely he's good enough to take the spot being taken up by the likes of Lallana and Origi? Perhaps he'd even step in front of Gini and Milner once Kieta and Fabinho step up and become first team regulars.

GeorgeT

1.) 08 Nov 2018 15:41:26
Too early to say, but I would wait for the end of the season and evaluate his performance throughout a complete season. I see him as a potential to play the position Lallana plays, if Lalana moves on. Not at all for Wijnaldum or Milner. There's been already too much of taking a player and his known skill set and sticking him into positions where the skill set is insufficient or not suitable.

2.) 08 Nov 2018 18:21:30
If he continues to excel then he must get a chance. His overall play is really good, if he wasn't on loan from us you can bet he'd be in line for a transfer to the prem. He just needs to keep his head down and keep it up.

3.) 08 Nov 2018 18:32:39
If he can't make it I don't know who can, attack wise. The lad is pure class.

4.) 08 Nov 2018 20:41:04
Nope.

5.) 08 Nov 2018 20:46:55
With you there, George T. I have been hearing about this kid for the past few years and at some point, we are going to have to find out what he has got, just like we did with Gomez and TAA. Does Klopp trust him, tho? Does he think he is ready to make the big jump? I hope so cos he is way too talented for us to just let him go.

6.) 08 Nov 2018 21:33:49
I hope so.

Might take Lallana's place in the squad if he doesn't find his form. I'm not sure what his introduction would have to do with Gini, Milner, Keita or Fabinho? completely different positions. I wouldn't even consider Origi a current squad player.

7.) 09 Nov 2018 05:55:17
Wilson is someone I have been a fan of since he came on to the scene at 16.
However, I have seen him get very few Liverpool outings compared to others such as Ejaria, Woodburn, even Kent. I believe the same is true even for pre season games. I know a part of it could be because he is out on loan often, but I fear that Klopp doesn’t like him as much as we spectators do. Not sure if that has to do with attitude, work rate or skill.
That said, I really do hope that he will shine, and hopefully that is for us. He is a similar story as Suso imho, and I would hate for another one to slip away. Fully agree with other posters that he could easily replace Lallana (my Grandmother could too, to be fair)

{Ed002's Note - Wilson is on loan at Derby - hence he is not playing for Liverpool. Options for the younger players will be even more limited now the club is looking to buy the league.}

8.) 09 Nov 2018 07:45:13
I think you mean compete Ed002.

{Ed002's Note - No, the owners are looking to buy the league. That has been made very clear.}

9.) 09 Nov 2018 08:06:45
Not really though are we, just financially keeping up with the other clubs.

{Ed002's Note - No, Liverpool are borrowing to spend more and more to try to win the league.}

10.) 09 Nov 2018 08:40:34
Correct me if im wrong but, isn't that what Manchester City have done/ are doing?

{Ed002's Note - Right, and they have done it.}

11.) 09 Nov 2018 09:01:45
So are we financially competing in that case or are LFC under irresponsible owners?

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has a growing debt, that has been dealt with before. The owners are more than keen to win the league. Klopp cam with the promise to do so without spending money. He was not good to his word but they owners have been throwing money at the club in a desperate attempt at getting success. Practically there has to be an end to this.}

27 Oct 2018 20:46:17
It's nearly November, which means it's nearly December, which means it's nearly time for the transfer window to open and the wonderful season of rumours starts again!

I would say that this team is so strong throughout! What are peoples expectations for transfers come January time?

I'd expect a few to leave but to be honest I wouldn't expect anyone to come in, really don't think we need anyone at the moment.

GeorgeT

1.) 27 Oct 2018 21:17:50
Same, the team is doing fine right now and we have good strength in depth.

2.) 27 Oct 2018 21:40:58
Fekir. You with me Salah?

3.) 27 Oct 2018 22:36:29
Rabiot would be a tidy one to get locked in for the summer on a free.

4.) 27 Oct 2018 22:46:10
Like Stone, I would still like us to sign Fekir. I know that Eds 01 and 02 have said that we have moved on from the failed summer signing and I know we already have a big first team squad but my heart rules my head on this one and I just can’t help hoping we go back for him.

5.) 27 Oct 2018 22:57:43
I certainly am stone mate :) .

6.) 27 Oct 2018 23:00:09
If I am not mistaken we can't that with Rabiot in January.

7.) 27 Oct 2018 23:42:03
We need cover for both FB positions. Fekir is old news and needs to stay that way.

8.) 28 Oct 2018 08:35:45
BRover, I agree that we need cover for the left back position but isn’t there enough cover at right back with TAA, Gomez, Fabinho and Clyde? Also, I’m interested in why you think we should stay away from Fekir. Don’t you rate him, do you think we don’t need him, does his injury record worry you or is it something else? From my point of view, although we are well stocked in the forward/ attacking midfield positions where Fekir would play, he would be an upgrade in quality and give us a boost for the second half of the season. Just my opinion and as I posted earlier, I acknowledge what the Eds have said about us having moved on from Fekir.

9.) 28 Oct 2018 09:53:54
Wirral, Oh I rate Fekir very highly. The guy is EXACTLY what we need in the no. 10 position and he can play as a support striker or the no. 9. He is MORE versatile than Cou was, very hardworking off the ball and his dribbling ability is phenomenal. However, those knees bother me and I would still defer to Klopp should he go for him. I just think it's too late now esp. cos Lyon are horrible to deal with. That does not mean the deal can't still be done or that I don't want him here cos CLEARLY, I do.

As for RB cover, Clyne is not Klopp's cup of tea and that has been the case since the summer of 2016 when he wanted rid (and still does) . The fact that he played Gomez at RB instead of Clyne of late, should tell you all you need to know. Fab can deputize there BUT IMO, he should play the position he was signed to fill and get up to speed with that first before seeing if he can do a job at RB. Gomez can deputize there as well BUT constantly moving him around will not help him settle at CB, where is is best, IMO. Cheers for the questions, man!

10.) 28 Oct 2018 10:10:11
Fekir is dead due to his injury concerns won't happen.

{Ed025's Note - it must have been a really bad injury if it killed him.. :)

11.) 28 Oct 2018 10:15:40
He might as well be it's the only thing that will start these dreamers harping on.

12.) 28 Oct 2018 10:19:14
Brilliant response, Ed. I could have sworn I saw Fekir play this weekend for Lyon or was it his body double or clone?

13.) 28 Oct 2018 11:54:25
BRover, well argued response, thanks.

Tc77, you may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one.

Ed025, very sharp for a Sunday morning mate - stay of the bevies last night?

{Ed025's Note - i certainly did wirral, its the new me...until tonight of course..

14.) 28 Oct 2018 13:48:14
Ed25, we're going to need your lot to continue the comedy material being served up at OT, at the moment. Are you up for it, mate?

{Ed025's Note - united are very unpredictable brover very good against chelsea but woeful again midweek, i really expect us to get a result mate as we are playing well at the moment but everton have this knack of disappointing us just when we think we are getting somewhere, we need to shut them out early doors because once their crowd start getting on the players backs they tend to fall to pieces, my forecast would be 2-2 as we both like to attack but in all honesty it could be any score..

21 Oct 2018 06:16:20
Want to contribute to the style vs results argument going on at the moment.

Now I have 2 kids and rarely get any free time at all to watch Liverpool play but when I do, that is my down time and to honest I think I'd rather we played some good football and the games were enjoyable to watch than the games being boring and we're successful.

I'm sure a lot of people will disagree but at the end of the day I'm a football fan who enjoys watching the game more than I enjoy looking at our position in the table.

I'm sure my view point might change abit towards the end of the season if we end up with another trophyless season but hope you get my point, would you all really be happy if Liverpool won a few trophies this year but you didn't actually enjoy watching any games?

GeorgeT

1.) 21 Oct 2018 07:21:50
As a 25 year old who has obviously never seen us win the league, I’d take a 1-0 win with 1 shot every game and 89 mins of sideways and backwards passing.

I get the sentiment of want to watch good football, but good football had got us 8th place finishes in recent years.

I don’t even think our issues come from us not playing good football, it’s that the front 3 don’t seem to be clicking yet. Once they click we will start scoring 3/ 4 a game and it will all look much better. Because the other players know we’re not scoring, they are taking less chances on the ball because we can’t afford to concede.

2.) 21 Oct 2018 07:42:30
Understand your point George, but as a bloke brought up in the halcyon days of the 70's, and sublime footy of the 80's, I just want the title. I left Liverpool in 91 when we were defending champions, and we haven't won it since.
Having said that, unless our performances pick up significantly, I can't see our luck continuing to hold. Years back, United would grind out wins, as did arsenal, and go on to win the league. But, they weren't up against this expensively assembled team of superstars that are man city.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think liverpool shop in the bargain basement anymore either burkey, city are a very good team as are liverpool but its because they have good managers mate its not just about the money imo..

3.) 21 Oct 2018 07:46:41
Yes, I would. Actually, these 0-1 solid away wins make a refreshing change from the silly, gung-ho away performances we had become accustomed to previously. Watching Alisson, Van Dijk and co bore the daylights out of the opposition, picking up clean sheet after clean sheet whilst barely conceding any chances in the game itself, is easily as satisfying as winning 3-2 every week.
If you want to watch a team that plays nice stuff but loses, use your downtime to watch Bournemouth every week and then check up on our result afterwards.
This is as entertaining a Liverpool side as I can remember.

4.) 21 Oct 2018 07:51:29
I want to be entertained too. But there is one thing I want more when it comes to sports. That’s To win (fair and square of course. ) I hope we win every game just like today for the rest of the season. I hope we go down as the most boring team to ever win the league. The heavy metal football was super exciting, but when we hit our bad patch last season, we weren’t getting results. We are joint top this season. Keep the boredom coming!

5.) 21 Oct 2018 09:26:47
There needs to be a balance, but we’re only 25% of the way through the season.

6.) 21 Oct 2018 10:43:32
A balance would be the preferred option, without doubt. Just to play devils advocate, those who would take a 1-0 with only one shot every game, would you like Jose in charge next season? I suspect I know the answer to that and guess that would prove the balance argument. We’re doing very well results wise but for me we’re walking a tightrope every game. Hopefully the front 3 will remember how they did things last year and we can add another couple of goals per game to go with the clean sheets. After all, city are already +10 better off in goal difference so if things are going to be as tight as people often suggest, that could become important later on.

7.) 21 Oct 2018 13:27:54
Everyone is looking for balance, as LFC is not the only team looking for that. The issue is that as long as we keep winning while at the same time, trying to fix our obvious issues, I am cool with that cos there is NO way in hell that Klopp is telling them to go out there and purposely make bad decision in the final third. If I could persevere with our team not being able to keep a clean sheet for 3 seasons then I can persevere with us trying to fix our issues while at the same time, being tied with City at the top. Just saying.

10 Sep 2018 12:55:13
Blimey who would have expected Liverpool to have 2 CB's nominated for the World XI!?

Lovren and VVD in case you didn't already know.

Appreciate that it's unlikely that either will make the final list but a nice change to see our defence getting some praise after all these years!

I'm not so sure about VVD not making it. I wouldn't be surprised if he did. Not won anything since he joined LFC, but he's not made missteps or huge mistakes either.

Would it not be a surprise if Ramos and Varane don’t get the nod?

3.) 11 Sep 2018 01:15:03
Unfortunately it will go to Ramos.

Ramos and Varane most likely to get the nod . And Lovern will have a good shout, he is a world cup finalist and stand out performer in that tournament . VVD very unlikely . Our opinion (LFC supporters) is very different to those so called experts making these decisions.

Appreciate the info, even if half the stuff you say turns out to be nonsense it's still nice to have some rumours to read once in a while!

Looking forward to the window opening now so we can have more rumours flying round this site, perhaps a visit from our old pal Macca, and maybe even some cryptic messages from the mystical wonderdog Ed2.

Oh right interesting, to be fair I didn't see him as a player who would make the step up to the lfc first team, similar to Ryan Kent I guess. Probably end up a half decent championship player.

I thought he was playing loads and doing a good job? Sure I've read lots of good reviews.

GeorgeT

{Ed001's Note - not since the first couple of games. He is playing because they have to play him, but he is not a good enough player. He is all fancy flicks and no sense.}

Munain was a legend for me with Reading FC on Football Manager a few years back!

Not sure Marto! Guess Milner will have to play somewhere, hopefully he can get a rest soon though.

Unfortunately I would say both Gini and Milner need a rest, shows how important it was to buy Fab and Kieta! Maybe both will play tomorrow along with hendo perhaps?

Any sport anecdotes would be great to read! i've really enjoyed all of your boxing articles as well as the football ones so I'm sure you've got a few more great sport stories to tell.

I don't post as often as I used to but I read every article you wrote Ed1!

GeorgeT

{Ed001's Note - ok thanks George, does seem to be the consensus to open it beyond footie. Which is good for me as it makes it easier to put them together.}

Salah, I also missed the first half as I didn't know it was a midday kickoff!

So it could be either one of us or the combination of both of us that have to miss games moving forward.

I'll miss the first half of Tuesday if you do to?
